Wells Dam Rest Area And Information Center, WA (No. 1)
Wells Dam is a hydroelectric embankment dam located on the Columbia River, downstream from the confluence of the Okanogan River, Methow River, and the Columbia River in Washington state. The dam, associated structures, and machinery make up the Wells Hydroelectric Project. It is owned and operated by Douglas County Public Utility District.
It has produced electricity since August 22, 1967. Its operating license from the US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission is next up for renewal in 2052. The Wells project has ten generating units rated at a combined 840 megawatts. In addition to the Douglas County and Okanogan County public utility districts, the project provides electricity to Puget Sound Energy, Portland General Electric, PacifiCorp, Avista Corporation, and the Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation.
Its reservoir is named Lake Pateros. Just below and adjacent is Carpenter Island boat launch and fish hatchery river access. Lake Pateros is not deep but a high volume of water moves through it. Thus, low-head, high-volume Kaplan turbine runners drive generation.

Balut??? As a Best in HeKaSi.
No choice—lipat ng jeep.
Kain tayo Jollibee bukas.”
Keep the change, ika nga.
Sa tabi lang po, Manong Bobby.
Para po. Para po sa’yo ‘to, Papa.

holy week.
Pero on the other side.
Kailangan nating magnilay sabay sabay habang nasa bahay.

Hehehehe I’m more than happy :3 and this is proof that Patero, Patsero, Seratchy (?) is endgame!!!! 💗
Also I hope you had fun at your dinner party!!!! And that you get lots of rest today - I know hosting can be such a rewarding but nonetheless ass-kicking experience lol
Patsero I am pretty sure would be the best-sounding couple's name; not as cute at Batchy or Pakuto (Bokuto + Patchy) but here we are!!
And the dinner party was quite nice and fun! Got loud at times, but that's just what happens when fun stories are being told! And I am resting, holy moly, cause I didn't sleep well last night and the stupid weather is causing me to have an aura headache, so rest and medication for me.
I hope your weekend is being kind to you my love 💛

The Future of Sari-Sari Stores: A Sci-Fi, Dystopian take of Aling Nena's Sundry Store
Nothing fancy and a rushed ending-- this is a writing exercise that includes a spin on sci-fi from classic novels, and an attempt at middle-class Filipino humor. How many sci-fi themes can you spot?
---
Aling Nena’s Sari-sari Store: Year 2024 “Aling Nena pabili nga ng isang RC maliit,” said a round-bellied man, bending over to the tiny square opening of the store counter divider made out of chicken coop fence. Aling Nena’s sari-sari store was teeming with products big and small. All shelves filled with goodies. A string hung high, festooned with packets of soap, shampoo, and snacks.
Aling Nena reached down into the refrigerator for the RC bottle. She made a few strides to the counter and pulled out a silver bottle opener tied to the counter fence with a white garter. She popped the cola open and, with a swift action she had done countless times, let go of the bottle opener, allowing it to fall freely.
[Free falling bottle opener match cuts (ala 2001: A Space Odyssey) to a modern-looking cornetto as it drops onto a stainless scanning tray]
Aling Nena’s Sari-sari Store: Year 2517
An AI voice vibrated through the mini speakers, “Ikikikikikik?” (which, in Alien language, translates to, Is there anything else I can get you?) Though small, Aling Nena’s sari-sari store remained abundant with goods and necessities for sale. Hologram ads adorned the customer side counter, showing Aling Nena’s latest essentials for space travel.
The slim gray asked, “Ikikikik?” to which a replicant android responded with an AI-encoded information on the difference between Palmolive Green and Palmolive Pink.
Throughout the rise and fall of regimes, the discovery of alien civilization, human colonization of earth-like planets, and a renewed human-replicant friendship, Aling Nena’s sari-sari store had stood open serving its local and intergalactic patrons. After all, with the depleting resources against the ever-evolving consumerist landscape, the demand for ‘tingi tingi’ selling was at its peak.
The bill of purchased items flashed before the telescreen. First distributed in Oceania, the telescreen monitored every movement of each patron that came by the store. The slim gray paid the bill with satisfaction, which the telescreen took note of for its record-keeping. At Aling Nena’s, they say, no customer should ever leave the store unhappy and unsatisfied.
Aligned with this ethos, Aling Nena's sari-sari store offered an array of eclectic services. Running low on funds? Simply list your purchases and settle the bill at a later time. Need to reach out to a relative light-years away? Use Aling Nena's ansible, a marvel of technology enabling instantaneous communication across the vast expanses of galaxies.
Aling Nena's sari-sari store has soared to new heights, with branches extending beyond the Milky Way and even a pop-up at the Colossus Marketplace. From its humble beginnings in Pateros, this beloved store now serves patrons across the cosmos, a testament to its enduring appeal and boundless ambition.

Day 3, Sunday, May 19, Leavenworth, Wash. to Kelowna BC, circa 400 kms.
Up at the crack of 7:00, arrange our bags and down to the hotel lobby for breakfast. Then, back to our rooms to pack up and bring our stuff down to load on the bikes and truck.
Each day, our routine of what goes where, gets a little more organized, so we pretty much hit the road on schedule today at 9:00 AM.
We start out heading east on Hwy 2 to Sunnnyslope, where we hit the Columbia River and start heading north again. We push on to Orondo, where we take our first break before picking up Hwy 97, which we will pretty much follow for the rest of the day.
Pushing through Chelan Falls, Pateros, and Brewster, where we turn north away from the Columbia River and head for Okanagan. We spend the next few hours riding through orchards full of apple, peach, pear and cherry trees and sprawling graperies to Oroville, just south of the border, where we stop for lunch. Afterward, we head out for Osoyoos just across the Canadian border. Thankfully, we all look pretty harmless, and other than it feeling good to be back in Canada again, the border crossing is a non-event.
Through orchards and grasslands, we reach Penticton on the south end of Lake Okanagan and turn our bikes towards Kelowna, our final destination, perched at the approximately midpoint of Lake Okanagan.
Kelowna, pop. circa 150,000 is clearly a city on the rise. Located in the heart of the Okanagan Valley, on the eastern shore of Okanagan Lake, it is surrounded by provincial parks, pine forests, vineyards, orchards and mountains. Its downtown area incorporates waterfront City Park and a lakeside cultural district. More than 20 local vineyards offer wine tours and tastings, and clearly, it is a vacation playground.
Slade is off to visit friends, so I head out to tour the downtown and end up at the bar at Crafts, sampling its local amber ales and mac and cheese. It's a relaxing wind down from the day, and I head back to the hotel to once again rearrange my luggage, fix my helmet, shower, read, and work on my blog. It's going to be an early to bed night. I'm looking forward to it.
