Creating a Relaxing Patchouli Essential Oil Blend
Introduction
In the ever-expanding world of natural wellness, essential oils have emerged as a popular choice for those seeking to enhance their well-being and create a sense of tranquility in their daily lives. Among the most revered of these aromatic botanicals is patchouli (Pogostemon cablin), a plant native to tropical regions of Asia that has long been celebrated for its calming and grounding properties.
In this comprehensive guide, we will explore the soothing benefits of patchouli essential oil and delve into the art of crafting a harmonious patchouli essential oil blend that can help you cultivate a state of deep relaxation and inner peace.
The Therapeutic Properties of Patchouli Essential Oil
Patchouli essential oil is renowned for its earthy, musky aroma that has the power to evoke a sense of grounding and tranquility. This versatile oil is rich in a variety of beneficial compounds, including patchoulol, alpha-guaiene, and beta-patchoulene, which contribute to its unique therapeutic properties.
When inhaled or applied topically, patchouli essential oil is believed to have a calming effect on the mind and body. Research suggests that it may help reduce feelings of anxiety, ease muscle tension, and promote a sense of emotional balance. Additionally, patchouli oil is often associated with enhancing mood, improving sleep quality, and supporting overall relaxation.
Crafting a Harmonious Patchouli Essential Oil Blend
To amplify the soothing benefits of patchouli essential oil, many practitioners and enthusiasts create custom blends that combine it with other complementary oils. These harmonious formulations can offer a synergistic effect, multiplying the calming and grounding properties of the individual ingredients.
When crafting a patchouli essential oil blend, consider incorporating the following components:
Patchouli (Pogostemon cablin): The primary ingredient, known for its calming and grounding effects.
Vetiver (Vetiveria zizanioides): This earthy, woody oil is believed to have a stabilizing and centering influence.
Frankincense (Boswellia serrata): With its uplifting and spiritual aroma, frankincense can enhance the meditative qualities of the blend.
Cedarwood (Juniperus virginiana): This grounding oil can contribute to the overall sense of calm and relaxation.
Clary Sage (Salvia sclarea): Renowned for its ability to balance emotions and alleviate stress, clary sage can further support the blend's soothing effects.
By blending these oils in the right proportions, you can create a harmonious formula that offers a multi-faceted approach to promoting relaxation and supporting your overall well-being.
Incorporating the Patchouli Essential Oil Blend into Your Routine Once you've crafted your personalized patchouli essential oil blend, there are numerous ways you can incorporate it into your daily routine to harness its soothing benefits:
Diffuser Use: Adding a few drops of the blend to an essential oil diffuser can fill a room with the calming aroma, creating a serene and grounding environment.
Topical Application: Diluting the blend with a carrier oil, such as jojoba or fractionated coconut oil, and applying it to the temples, wrists, or the back of the neck can help promote a sense of tranquility and inner peace.
Bath Time: Adding a few drops of the blend to a warm bath can create a spa-like experience, allowing the aromatic compounds to be absorbed through the skin and inhaled.
Massage: Incorporating the patchouli essential oil blend into a soothing massage can help relieve muscle tension and further promote a state of deep relaxation.
Meditation and Yoga: Using the blend during meditative practices or restorative yoga sessions can enhance the calming and grounding effects, supporting a deeper connection with the self.
Experimenting with different application methods and incorporating the patchouli essential oil blend into your daily self-care rituals can help you discover the approach that works best for your individual needs and preferences.
Safety Considerations
While patchouli essential oil is generally considered safe for topical and aromatic use, it's essential to follow proper safety guidelines when using any essential oil. Always dilute the oil before applying it to the skin, and perform a patch test to ensure you don't have any adverse reactions. Pregnant women and individuals with certain medical conditions should consult with a healthcare professional before using patchouli essential oil.
Conclusion
The soothing power of patchouli essential oil is a testament to the natural healing properties found in the plant kingdom. By crafting a personalized patchouli essential oil blend and incorporating it into your daily routine, you can harness the calming and grounding benefits of this versatile botanical extract.
Whether you're seeking to manage stress, improve sleep quality, or simply cultivate a greater sense of inner peace, the patchouli essential oil blend can be a valuable tool in your holistic wellness toolkit. Embrace the natural healing properties of this captivating plant and allow its aromatic essence to guide you towards a more tranquil and balanced state of being.

Basic Spell Oils
I should have posted this a lot earlier, but I forgot ..
Oils are a great way to create herbal blends for spell work - oil preserves the scent, taste and herbal matter if stored away from sunlight (you can store in coloured glass) and can be adapted to make infused olive oil or cooking oils for your kitchen witchery, the dress candles, to add to glamour spells, or to make perfume bases.
Basic Recipe Formula:
Essential oils
Carrier oil such as sweet almond oil, jojoba oil, sunflower oil, apricot oil etc.
A small jar with a dropper or dropper top to store the oil in
Optional:
Vitamin E oil
herbs to create an infusion
Determine the intention of the oil (love, protection, confidence etc.) and gather the herbs and essential oils that have association (personal or common) with aspects of that intention
Add a few pinches of dried herbs to your bottle
Add a few drops of your essential oil (up to 10% of the bottle)
If using, add a drop of vitamin E oil - this can make it better for skin application and also stops the oil from going rancid from the herbal matters
Add the carrier oil and fill to the top, cap and shake to blend - as you shake you can say a prayer, chant, or focus your energy to charge the oil
Allow to sit for at least a week before use, as it ages it will start to macerate and smell more harmonious.
Date Night Dinner Oil
This is an olive cooking oil to be used in salads, sauces, to spread on breads, or to marinate meats and vegetables in. It is packed full of aphrodisiac herbs and summer spices
Olive oil
Garlic, rosemary, ginger, star anise, and chili
Strainer
For a quick infusion, add in your oil and herbs into a pan and simmer on a low heat for 30 minutes.
Allow to cool, strain and use within 1-2 weeks
Attraction Oil
The attraction oil combines aphrodisiacs and anti-anxiety herbs into an oil or perfume. The intention is to attract and command attention, to boost your confidence, and as a base for seduction work.
Add your carrier oil to your oil dropper or perfume bottle/roller - for this I’d recommend a rosehip oil, apricot oil or a neutral grapeseed oil.
Turn your herbs into oils either via essential oils or add them dried straight to your carrier oil to infuse: rose, clove, vervain, cinnamon, licorice, nutmeg, frankincense, apple blossom, jasmine, ylang ylang, lavender, cocoa, and/or gingseng - cater to personal preferences and match scents together, I recommend using between 3-8 oils or herbs.
Example scent profile: rose, lavender, apple blossom, vervain, cinnamon, licorice, gingeseng (spicy floral - I’d also add a little patchouli if turning into a perfume)
These types of recipes are where having a grimoire, notebook, or journal comes in very handy! Keep record of what you've tried, what scents match well, what is repellent, what works for you, plan out recipes before hand.
As always, adapt, change, and disregard as you like to suit your personal practice <3

How to Use Herbs : Rosemary
Hwello there. We have talked about rosemary and its uses in a previous post. If you haven't read it, please click here: Rosemary
Now I shall provide some spells, tonics, recipes and etc on where you can utilize it. Let us begin :)
Author's Note: From I noticed a part is usually a teaspoon. You can add more according to your needs, but I would always start with that measurement first.
Alchemist Formula for Binding:
One part benzoin gum (Saturn, binding)
One part patchouli (Saturn,binding)
One part Solomon's seal (Saturn, protective)
One part rosemary oil (Saturn, protective)
One part frankincense oil (Sun, success)
Mental Focus Magical Tea:
I part rosemary
1/2 part spearmint
1 cup of boiling water
Mix herbs in a small jar
To brew, pour 1 cup of boiling water over 1 teaspoon of the herbal blend.
Steep for 5 - 7 minute. Strain and drink.
Spells:
Remembrance for Lost Love (Heartache Healer)
6 drops of rosemary oil
3 drops of peppermint oil
1 drop of lavender oil
White candle
Add the oil to the top of the candle, one at a time, in a clockwise direction around the wick.
LIght the candle and gaze into the flame
Visualize your fond memories of the person who left your life. As you do this say, "I thank you for the time we had together, I thank you for the love we shared, I thank you for being an important part of my life. We have parted, we move on, we remember. I wish you the best life has to offer and hope you have found happiness."
Allow the candle to burn out of its own and dispose of the remaining wax away from your home or bury it in the spot you and the past partner enjoyed together.
Broom Cleansing Spell
Use one or any combination of the following botanicals: broom, cedar, fennel, hyssop, rosemary, sage, vervain.
Arrange the botanicals and tie them to the bottom of a branch withraffia, visualizing, charging and knotting. (Any branch may be used, however an ash branch is considered particularly powerful.)
Sprinkle with salted water or any preferred purification formula.
Sweep the area.
Disassemble the broom outside, away from the cleansed space.
Bury the components in the ground or toss them into living waters, flowing away from you.
Ghost Keep Away Spell (Boundary Line Spell)
Place three peeled cloves of garlic in a bowl, together with one handful of sea salt and one handful of fresh rosemary leaves.
Grind and mash the ingredients together.
Sprinkle them to create a boundary, as needed.
Bad Habits Bath
Add the following to a tub filled with warm water:
Essential oil of clary sage
Essential oil of frankincense
Essential oil of lavender
Essential oil of lemongrass or May Chang
Essential oil of rosemary
Enter the bath and inhale the fragrance, and accompany with affirmations and positive visualizations.
Kitchen Witch Recipes:
Super-Quick Bonus Recipe for Gwion’s Red Onion Pickle Bliss
Fills one pint-sized jar
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cooking Time: 20 minutes, plus 30 minutes to cool in the fridge
1 medium red onion
3 tablespoons sugar
1/2 cup water
10 black peppercorns
2/3 cup white wine vinegar,
rice vinegar, or apple cider vinegar
1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
1 sprig rosemary
1 clove garlic, peeled and halved
Slice the onion very thinly and place it in your clean, dry jar. Set it aside.
Add the rest of the ingredients to a medium saucepan and bring to a boil until the sugar has fully dissolved. Stir carefully so you don’t break the rosemary. The sprig is in there to add flavour, and you’ll discard it before the next step.
Let the pickling mixture (the water, vinegar, and spices) cool down for about 10 minutes. Discard the sprig of rosemary and pour the remaining
ingredients into the jar of onions. Make sure all of the onions are submerged
in the picking liquid. If you have to, use a spoon to push the onions down in the jar. Seal the jar and put it in the fridge to cool. The onions are ready to eat once they are cool, about 30 minutes.
Serve them on avocado toast, burgers, salads, or just with a fork straight out of the jar. Remember to kiss your partner or partners before eating the onions out of the jar, unless they’re into pungent kisses.
Goat for a God: Roasted Goat Leg with Grape Molasses
Great for Deities: Dionysus, Pan and Thor
Serves : 6
Prep Time: 30 minutes
Cooking Time: 2 hours and 30 minutes
1 goat leg (about 3 pounds)
1/4 cup + 1 tablespoon olive oil
2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon cumin
2 teaspoons black pepper
4 tablespoons grape molasses
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon coriander
2 sprigs fresh rosemary
1 cup white wine + one glass for sipping and toasting while cooking (use mead if you're cooking this for Thor)
1 bay leaf
2 large carrots, chopped into
1" chunks
1 celery root, peeled and chopped into 1" cubes
Open the bottle of white wine or mead and take a hefty drink. (This is optional but deities do like when you drink with them but they can respect if you don't partake.)
Preheat the oven to 375° F.
Liberally season the goat leg with salt and pepper.
Rub the minced garlic all over the goat leg too. If it helps, poke a few holes in the goat leg so you can get the garlic right into the meat.
Place the rosemary sprigs and bay leaf in the bottom of a large roasting pan and put the goat leg right on top. Add the carrots and celery root around the edges. Pour the olive oil all over the goat and rub it around. Coat the carrots and celery root too.
Pour the white wine around the bottom of the roasting pan.
Loosely cover with kitchen foil and put the whole pan into the oven for 2 hours.
About an hour and forty-five minutes into the cooking process, it’s time to make the glaze.
Mix the grape molasses—which is a super-condensed syrup made of grape must—in a bowl with a tablespoon of olive oil, the coriander, and the cumin. You can substitute honey for the grape molasses if for Thor.
At the two-hour mark, pull the roasting pan out of the oven and paint the goat with the grape (or honey) and spice glaze.
Pop the goat and veggies, uncovered, back into the oven for another 20 minutes or until the internal temperature reaches at least 145° F.
When you’re ready to serve this dish, scoop the veggies into a bowl (fornow) and put the goat leg on a platter. If you have access to one, get a cedar plank and serve the goat on it.
Medical Tonics and Infusions:
Infusion- An infusion is the simplest way to prepare the more delicate aerial parts of plants, especially leaves and flowers, for use as a medicine or as a revitalizing or relaxing drink. It is made in a similar way to tea, using either a single herb or a combination of herbs, and may be drunk hot or cold.
Pot Infusion
For a cup:
1 tsp (2–3 g) dried or 2 tsp (4–6 g) fresh herb (or mixture of herbs) to a cup of water
For a pot:
20 g dried herb or 30 g fresh herb (or a mixture of different herbs) to 2 cups (500 ml) of water
Warm the pot, then add the herb.
Pour in water that has just boiled, replace the lid, and infuse for 10 minutes.
Strain some of the infusion into a cup. A teaspoon of honey may be added if desired.
Storage:
Store in a covered jug in a refrigerator or cool place for up to 24 hours.
Tonic Making
Standard Quantity:
200 g dried or 300 g fresh herb chopped into small pieces to 1 quart (1 liter) alcohol—vodka of 35–40% alcohol is ideal, although rum hides the taste of bitter or unpalatable herbs
Standard Dosage:
Take 1 tsp (5 ml) 2 –3 times a day diluted in 1 tbsp plus 1 tsp (25 ml) of water or fruit juice.
Place the herb in a large, clean glass jar and pour on the alcohol, ensuring that the herb is covered. Close and label the jar.
Shake well for 1–2 minutes and store in a cool dark place for 10–14 days, shaking the jar every 1–2 days.
Set up the wine press, placing a muslin or nylon mesh bag securely inside. Pour in the mixture and collect the liquid in the jug.
Slowly close the wine press, extracting the remaining liquid from the herbs until no more drips appear. Discard the leftover herbs.
Pour the tincture into clean, dark glass bottles using a funnel. When full, stopper with a cork or screw top and label the bottles.
Storage:
Store in sterilized, dark glass bottles in a cool dark place for up to 2 years. An amber glass jar is the best option.
Sorry this post is so long @_@ But please enjoy and use wisely. Bye byes~

First Time with Vivien - Part 1
When you first tell Vivien that you think you're ready to be intimate with him, he's already unbuckling his pants. He thinks you mean RIGHT NOW and he's a little disappointed when you tell him that you meant like, this weekend.
A little embarrassed, he pulls his pants back up and he's like "Oh."
But late that night, after you've left for your own apartment and he's emptied himself twice thinking about you, he gets to thinking. It's actually a good thing that you both didn't rush into anything today.
It's Tuesday night, and you're coming over Friday. He has three full days to prepare. He only has three days to prepare.
In between work, sleep, and stalking you, Vivien searches through every Reddit post, every internet forum, every advice column he can to try and get a wide range of information. Most of it is useless and he disregards it, but some of it is very useful.
The first thing he does is head straight to the store to buy new, soft sheets. His usual sheets are covered in... stains, and it would be embarrassing for you, his angel, to see that.
He didn't know this, but Patchouli can be used as an aphrodisiac. He makes a special blend of essential oils just for this occasion. If he sets up the diffuser right, he'll be able to help you relax and ease into everything.
Thursday night and Friday morning, he's too excited to sleep, so he gets to work making a platter of snacks for the both of you to share. He wants you both to be full, but not so full that it makes you both sleepy and knocks you out of the mood, so he guesses an aphrodisiac girl-dinner would work best.
He pairs slices of fresh baguette with some honey cinnamon butter, bakes heart-shaped brownies sprinkled with powdered sugar, and chills strawberry and banana slices with a white chocolate drizzle. He takes a little bit of money from his savings and splurges on a nice bottle of red wine for the both of you. For the finishing touch, he bakes brie with herbs and honey, setting it right in the middle of the charcuterie board.
With another thought, he adds some pineapple on there as well.
He looks around. The room is softly lit and quiet, smelling pleasantly of patchouli and lavender. The food is ready and waiting. The only thing left to prepare is himself.
He scrubs himself in the shower, wanting to make sure he is extra clean for you. He also takes the initiative to brush his hair and try and make sure the unruly strands stay flat.
When he answers the door, he is struck by how lovely you look. You both eat while you watch a romantic movie, and Vivien is fear-sweating. He looks at you whenever there is a sex scene, but looks away when you look at him. But throughout this, he pulls you closer and closer to him, his hand inching up your skirt.
When he kisses you, he can taste the sweets he made, and another perfect flavor that is uniquely you. Despite his extroverted personality, he feels meek and nervous today. He asks if you are ready, and when you say yes, he leads you gently to the bedroom.
Once you both are in and the door is locked, Vivien's anxiety disappears and he becomes someone different. He finally has you, willing and wet and ready in his bedroom. He will not waste this opportunity. He is on you in seconds, kissing, sucking, biting, desperate to leave marks on you, to prove to the universe that he is alive and you are his.
Your clothes litter the floor, all the care he put into this evening thrown to the wind as he lays you gently on the soft blue sheets. He caresses his way down your body, whispering about how you're so beautiful and so good to him and that he's waited for this moment for so long and he finally has you right where you belong, spread wide for him to ravish you.
He takes you into his mouth, licking and sucking like a man starved. For a man so well-versed in herbs and flowers, understanding the intricate ways smells and flavors fit together, there is nothing he can compare to the taste that is you. His tongue is moderately long, but it is strong and skilled, teasing moans out of you until you are gripping the sheets in two tight fists. He hums as he devours you, the vibrations giving another level of stimulation to the coitus.
This part is about your pleasure, but that does not mean he neglects himself. He is kneeling on the floor, tongue and left hand focused on you, but his right hand is busy, wrapped around his cock. He desperately ruts into his hand, pumping himself. Watching you like this; it is better than any fantasy, any daydream, any wet dream his imagination can come up with, and he is close to spilling over right now, just from the divine pleasure of tasting you. But he is desperately trying to hold himself back for the main event.
His tasting and sucking are no match for you, and you explode into fireworks, the triumphant feeling rolling your eyes back into their sockets and curling your toes at the same time. Vivien doesn't overstimulate you, not this first time. He pulls back, your juices smeared around his face as he gives the biggest smile you've ever seen on him. He thanks you over and over again for the opportunity to take care of you, telling you how gorgeous, how ethereal, how reverent he feels about you.
Moving up beside you, he pulls you onto his chest. His cock twitches, desperately seeking the rampant stimulation it lost, but he tucks it between his legs. He needs to care for you before anything. He holds a bottle of water to your lips, asking if you are okay and did you enjoy it and do you need anything from him.
You assure him you are happy. Very, very happy in fact, and you want to move onto the real thing: the penetration. Vivien blushes immediately, wanting to mount you right then and there, but he asks again if you're sure. No matter how good it will feel or how pleasured he will be, he will not do this unless you are sure.

A perfume for Papa Emeritus the Third?
Ever since last year I've been getting into perfumes, and It ended up (indeed) as being a great idea, because I could be using It as a way to be poetic and philosophical about smells, just like in my Ghost inspired story "Come una Preghiera", because they get an important role there.
And so, for my dearly beloved Papa Emeritus the Third, the perfume I choose is: John Galliano EDP, a fragrance for women, made in 2008.
What does the perfume smell like?
This was the first fragrance made by John Galliano, which had been a stylist of the house of Dior from 1994 to 2011, and It was presented in July 2008. According to sources, he wanted to make a floral fragrance which would include rose, peony, iris with powdery aromas, violet and transparency.
Cooperation in creating John Galliano's signature fragrance was established with Cristine Nagel, who created this floral aldehyde fragrance with notes of aldehydes surrounded with floral notes, with amber and patchouli in the base notes.
Also, the bottle itself is a real piece of art, crowned with a Gothic G Letter, while the outside package is illustrated like a book (Also the colours are the same as Papa III's robes, black and purple with an ounce of gold):
Why did I choose this perfume for him?
After finding a small vial splash on eBay (Because the perfume Is sadly out of stock and is only sold second-hand for crazy prices) I knew from the beginning that this was definitely a perfum he would enjoy.
Because it's like Papa III itself:
Atmospheric and well blended, this perfume opens with a beautiful bouquet of roses, peonies and violets. It's seemingly innocent, fresh and delicate (basically, his gentleman side); but after some time spent in his company you get to know him better, and you begin to feel his restless melancholy and his darkness.
The bouquet is no longer wet with dewdrops, but rather with tears, and gives space to the darker shades of musk and iris, alongside the incense.
It's a wonderful perfume in my opinion, if you got interested in it I warn you that it may be similar to an essential oil and gets an occasionally deadly scent due to its realistic and alluring incense note, but it's truly a gem 💜

Sleep Oil?
Ok so Sleep Prayer Oil (yes from sleep token)??
-olive oil for the vibes, I usually use grape seed as a carrier, but the vibes of olive oil are what I’m feeling for this.
-Pachouli (sleep aid, and also VERY sensual)
-Mugwort (for astral/dream work)
-Lemon Balm (love, dreamwork, healing)
-Lavender (sleep aid, but intense dreams)
-rosemary (creativity)
-peppermint essential oil (money/prosperity)
-Grapefruit essential oil (mental clarity)
Ok, so here is my list, copy pasted from my notes app so that is why the formatting and wording is all weird lol, of all the herbs and oils I’d include in a sleep prayer oil, and all my reasonings.
But I freaking. Listen, I don’t believe sleep is a real god, but when I was like ‘what would I put in this’ my mind kept going back to rosemary, and I was like ‘why tho?’ And the first thing that popped up when I searched for herbs for creativity was rosemary and I just said ‘ok. Sleep wants that in there’.
I cant make this rn, cause… I am not uhhh ‘practicing’ (my practice is gathering knowledge until I can move out), but I want to 🤣. I wonder if I could get by with substituting lemon oil for lemon balm, cause I have access to essential oils, but not herbs and putting them jars lol. I could honestly say this was a blend for seizures and I wouldn’t even be completely lying….. I’d actually just have to buy the patchouli and mugwort 🤣🤣🤣…. I’m so tempted. I’ll let you know if I do it or not😂 or maybe I just leave out the mugwort and patchouli for right now? I feel like the others have everything covered, but the first two where more like the pa-pow of the oil, idk if this makes since? Like those are the main two and if I was making this for real, I would do only a little bit of the other ingredients, and a lot of the main two, but if I’m not including them I’d do more of the others…. Fuck it I’m gonna end up making this, oops. (But probably with grape seed oil, since this is an essential oil blend… I’ll be back with more notes I’m so sorry).
Edit: this just keeps getting longer longer sorry; went to gather the oils, realized we do indeed have patchouli! But not rosemary… thinking of substituting oregano for rosemary…. And maybe clary sage for mugwort?? Hmmm. Lots of thoughts. Same associations for both things as the list above… ok I have to be done now I’ll come back and tell you if it smells good in a different ask lmao.
Sorry for info dumping to you about a silly little oil, but I was having fun with it.
What would go in your version of it, if you don’t mind me asking👀 I know you said you where doing your own research on it, and I’m curious🥰.
i have sat on this for waaaayyyyy toooo long but university was absolutely kicking my ass for the last… month and a half? idk i was going through it for a hot minute 😅
but! finally getting to tuck into some research now that i’m done school for the term and have a quiet day at work. (this is gonna get hella long cuz i’m having a lot of fun researching and i’m gonna use this as a sounding board a bit as i read)
so! first thing i’m learning is that intention is a huge part of this (i knew the intention part already, part and parcel with working with tarot!)
i think given that sleep is introduced to us as some sort of deity, i would probably make a ritual anointing oil.
the carrier oil itself is another question. i think since sleep feels like a deity not easy to commune with (the intensity and allegory in the music makes me think that, if we were worshipping a true god, conversing with sleep takes a toll on the devotee). with this in mind i think grapeseed oil might make a decent base. it is a good choice for anything used to anoint the body (which i feel would be part of this ritual oils use, if we must dream to encounter sleep then anointing the body makes the most sense to me!) and it is ruled by the moon and water element- making it very fitting for sleep token! grapeseed oil is also useful for blends that intend to boost/strengthen mental abilities (it also helps with fertility magic and given the lyrical content at times- seems somewhat fitting) another useful aspect for a ritual for sleep. i do like the vibes of olive oil as well, and it’s a very versatile ingredient but i don’t think i’d like feeling it on my skin so grapeseed it is! (also my local magick shop has grapeseed oil so easy for me to obtain lol)
now the fun part- the essential oils!
(i’m realizing as i write this that i need to purchase a grimoire so i can start recording my research and recipes…)
so this part has taken me a lot longer to fiddle with, not only finding the right associations but also smells i enjoy, but i think I’ve got it!
- sandalwood (its grounding, promotes inner peace, aphrodisiac) [i went back and forth here between sandalwood and cedar, same associations but i prefer the scent of sandalwood]
- lavender (promotes sleep, reduces stress, pretty straightforward lol)
- patchouli (grounding, sharpens your wit, good for prayer work) [loooove the smell too, i’d do anything to naturally smell like patchouli lol, hippy association be damned]
- mugwort (astral projection, lucid/prophetic dreams, meditation)
- lemon balm (love, healing, astral projection, it also amplifies the effects of other herbs)
- clary sage (vivid dreams, divination)
i keep going back and forth on whether or not to add clove, it’s another aphrodisiac and also good for treating insomnia so i think it would fit? but i’m not 100% sure on it yet lol. my familiarity with essential oils and herbs is very minimal
but yeah! now to get the oils and mix. not sure exactly how the mix will come about, will need some trial and error with it i think! again, sorry this took me so long but here we are! finally i did it!
#exie’s ask box#foxgloveinspace#sleep token#witch talk#thank you for enabling this madness- i had a lot of fun when we originally joked about this and with my research!

What is Egyptian musk?
I'll say this up top: I would love to hear if you have any experience with Egyptian musk oils before 1980 (e.g., "My grandmother wore it in the 1950s") or if you've seen any documentation on Egyptian musk blends after "Ancient Egypt" (e.g., "In my reading, I've seen formulas going back to the 1800s"). I ran into a distinct historical gap here, within the scope of, you know, a tumblr post.
For the sake of clarity, let's capitalize Egyptian Musk, the fragrance blend, to differentiate it from "any musk (often civet) originating in Egypt," which you can also get.
A long while back, I had started trying to read up on what different musks were supposed to smell like. Siberian musk and China musk and white musk and black musk and red musk and blue musk and, and, and. Being neurodivergent, I get further into the weeds than most people might, and so you got a 1200-word deep-dive on modern synthetic musk. But along the way, I discovered that Egyptian Musk is not a single musk note; it's a distinct blend unto itself, and pretty much botanical. And I love that. I love the idea of a fragrance that's just an alchemy of plants suggesting the shape of musk, an olfactory sleight of hand.
The one I tried
After comparing some reviews a few months back, I decided that I would probably like Kuumba Made's. If I had known I would end up writing about this, I would have gotten a sample of Nemat's as well, which is supposedly more of a "typical Egyptian Musk" with its patchouli note. (I've heard that Auric Blends' popular Egyptian Goddess [1993] is actually an Egyptian Musk as well.) I don't smell patchouli at all in the Kuumba Made—rather, it has "notes of fresh water [?] and sanctifying sandalwood.”
On me, it's the softest, snuggliest sort-of-rose scent. I love roses in person, but the scent usually doesn't work very well on my skin—and yet this Egyptian Musk does, and in fact, it's so well-blended that I'm not even sure exactly what's in it. The balance shifts every time I wear it: sometimes I get sandalwood, sometimes vetiver, but rarely both at the same time. But it's always lovely. The only reason it's not my ~Signature Scent~ is because I am, in fact, a basic vanilla bitch, but it's very soothing, and it is in my top five Frequently Worn Fragrances. I'm curious, though—what are those "fresh water" notes, what's in this? Here’s the Fragrantica note pyramid for the Kuumba Made Egyptian Musk:
Ingredients:
Egypt
Musk
You see this a lot on Fragrantica note listings when Egyptian Musk is involved, like we're supposed to know what this is shorthand for—or maybe we're supposed to understand that it's a trade secret. Various sellers tend say theirs is a little different from everyone else's; user reviews will say, "I like this one more than that one; this one smells more like a traditional Egyptian Musk to me." What's our baseline here, though?
The ingredients of Egyptian Musk™
Amir Oud: A Brief History of Egyptian Musk Oils and Perfumes:
The typical Egyptian musk can be made from essential oils from home such as Frankincense, Myrrh, Cedarwood, Patchouli, Amber, Rose Petal, and Ambrette seed oil. This will give you sort of an idea of the actual fragrance of the Egyptian musk.
You may remember ambrette/musk mallow/annual hibiscus as the natural source of ambrettolide, a major synthetic musk; thus, ambrette is the most literal "musk" component of a modern Egyptian Musk. That said, most of the literal Musk From Egypt I've seen on offer has been civet, synthetic or otherwise.
But in addition to those notes, more than one seller offers (word for word, capital for capital), "Musky Vetiver and Myrrh, blended with sensual Patchouli and a hint of Rose," leaving out many of the other components. I'm not sure what's going on with the copypasta there (it's possible they're buying from a wholesale supplier who uses that description). But I'm 99% certain vetiver is in the Kuumba Made too, so let's consider that a typical ingredient as well.
The most complex formula I saw agrees with Amir Oud's, but this Zindoki.com version adds jasmine, "one drop of camphor," labdanum (you remember labdanum from amber accords), and "a deer musk or civet"—our Musk From Egypt. The Zindoki page also has the simplest characterization I saw: patchouli, rose, ambrette.
The various formulas I saw also had different proportions—some heavier on the rose and patchouli, some heavier on the frankincense and myrrh—and so, you can imagine how different one blend might smell from another. And that's before you start adding citrus top notes to fill out the pyramid, as some brands do. Nonetheless! A certain personality is taking shape.
And a number of articles and sellers claim that this personality is "Cleopatra." Allegedly, this was her favorite perfume. Which... I'm going to argue, no. Arguing literally, in a separate post that I am writing: the soft, subtle profile we're talking about here just does not match the pungent, spicy fragrances that historians and archaelogists are uncovering. In fact, Elena Vosnaki, who has written more about musk than I ever have or ever will in her multi-part musk series (NSFW photography), says,
Simply put, Egyptian musk does not originate in Egypt, but is simply a variant of a musk blend in which the clean, scrubbed-skin nuance is the dominant part.
And this is where I have to turn around and argue in the other direction. I get the general idea—Egyptian Musk belongs in a "soft and clean" category of scents, I'll agree with that. But it has a more specific character than just "a variant" of white dryer-sheet musk ("The laundry day feel is there"). I also think a blend with this cohesive a character, this widely used, had to come from somewhere, at some time. I'm just not sure when or where.
Where in spacetime does Egyptian Musk come from?
Short answer: As a traditional blend somewhere between today and Ancient Egypt? I don't know.
Long answer: As you would buy it today? New York in the 1980s.
Back to the Musk Series:
Famous examples in [modern] use include the perennial Narciso For Her, where the fractialised patchouli (keeping the cleaner aspects) and the synthetic white flowers are highlighted by the clean muskiness of the base and smoothed out by a recent amber molecule, Amberlyn, and a hint of honey. The Cuban born designer was inspired by an Egyptian musk oil he used to buy in New York City along his friend and muse Caroline Bessette-Kennedy. (It turns out it was Abdul Kareem's Egyptian Musk).
Now we're getting somewhere:
"I used to buy the stuff from head shops or sidewalk vendors in Harvard Square. About seven-odd years ago, I found a variation (by Abdul Kareem, which, the internet tells me, is an ’80s NYC-born scented-oil brand)"
According to Makeup Alley users, as of three years ago, you could buy the genuine article from an ebay seller (look at the Olfactoria review), but I don't see a Charlotte Vale now. There's only one listing at all, in fact, and Etsy searches don't seem to yield genuine Abdul Kareem results. That said, you might still be able to buy it in person; a number of users on Fragrantica and Makeup Alley mention buying Egyptian musk oils from shops and sidewalk vendors like the ones Fiorella Valdesolo mentions in the article—years ago, but you never know.
Now, what's interesting about the 1980s part is this:
Bargz: A Guide To Egyptian Musk And Egyptian Musk Products:
In the 1880s, scientist Albert Bauer discovered synthetic-derived fragrances that resemble musk ingredients. This synthetic approach gave way to laws in 1979 that protected musk deer and other animals from being hunted.
I don't know who came up with what first, and what tradition may or may not have existed before 1980s NYC. But my guess is that Egyptian Musk shifted from Musk From Egypt With Additional Notes, Maybe, to our muskless frankincense-myrrh-patchouli-rose-ambrette sleight of hand today because of that ban, specifically. I don't know if Abdul Kareem was the first or simply the most popular, but that brand seems to have become the standard, the way that Coty's Chypre gave a name to an entire family of bergamot-labdanum-oakmoss fragrances.
Perfumes inspired by Egyptian Musk
And, much the way that Mitsouko was a peach-infused riff on Coty's Chypre, other fragrances have built off Abdul Kareem's Egyptian Musk in particular. Let's go back to that mention of Narciso Rodriguez. Apparently both Narciso Rodriguez For Her (creators: Christine Nagel and Francis Kurkdjian) (yes, that Francis Kurkdijan) and Sarah Jessica Parker's Lovely (Clement Gavarry and Laurent Le Guernec) are inspired by Egyptian Musk. I actually have samples of both of these—the NR For Her is a fresh decant, and the Lovely is, uh, from my random mall sample box. Hope it aged well!
This post is certainly long enough already, so I'll update on those later. But I can say, I've worn the Narciso Rodriguez twice and I do get a similarity.

Midnight Bacchanal- An Astarion-inspired Perfume Blend
this is a recipe for an essential oil blend which can be used for aromatherapy in an oil warmer (if you're rich I guess ;) or as a perfume. The recipe is a RATIO, which means that it can be easily doubled or tripled depending on what you’re using it for.
...
Inspired by the current subject of my obsession, Astarion from Larian's soon-to-be released game Baldur's Gate 3, this is a luscious, intoxicating, fussy blend of rich incense and dark earth, overgrown jasmine and wilting roses, evoking decaying nobility and luxury.
Can be used in lotions, cologne bases or with a carrier oil, but would not recommend for use in cosmetics that are applied to the face or mouth. As I have allergies stemming from many synthetic scents, I only use essential oils. None of these are photoreactive, but as with all essential oils, pls patch test your skin with each if you've never used them before.
Astarion Essential Oil Blend Recipe
3 drops Vetiver essential oil (vetiveria zizanioides)
4 drops Myrrh essential oil (commiphora myrrha)
3 drops Frankincense essential oil (boswellia serrata)
2 drops Patchouli essential oil (pogostemon cablin)
1 drop Vanilla botanical extract (vanilla planifolia)
2 drops Damask Rose absolute (rosa damascena)
3 drops Jasmine absolute (jasminum grandiflorium)
Notes:
Wet: a burst of intoxicating florals with resinous and woody notes. seriously made me a little dizzy in a good way.
Dry: all of the complex earthy scents come through, softening the florals and their sweetness, and bringing notes of incense and dirt (but also in a good way)
these notes are from ME, and do not mean you will experience the perfume in the same way!
Warnings&Comments:
Please be aware if you’ve never used essential oils- they should be diluted with a carrier oil before being applied to skin. Good quality grapeseed oil isn’t a bad choice, and it’s cheap! I use sweet almond usually.
Not a food safe blend.
Rose absolute (and all oils to a greater and lesser degree) can smell completely different on your skin from person to person. So if it smells overwhelmingly of rose to you, you might need to lower the concentration.
Store your finished product in a container that is tinted, as exposure to sunlight will make the scent fade faster.
I use Vanilla botanical extract, but vanilla oleoresin is also fine, though it will tint your finished perfume brownish. Otherwise this should come out as a nice amber color.
My jasmine (jasminum grandiflorium) is from India, not Egypt, but Egyptian would be fine as well, mine just smelled a bit soapy and using two florals like I did, I was afraid the soapiness would make it smell like a candle. Yes, it’s super expensive, but you can buy sample vials from some reputable essential oil distributors, and it should be plenty. You can also sub with synthetic if you like. I just can’t ;P
If this is too much flower for you, reduce rose and jasmine oils each by 1 drop
#Baldur's Gate 3#Astarion#BG3#esssential oil blends#fandom scents#this would make some SERIOUSLY good bath products#but oh so expensive with the jasmine ;_;#i wish i wasn't an allergic mess#this would make the most INCREDIBLE bath bomb#I might still make a single one for a special night maybe halloween

Beltane Blessings Anointing Oil
"Celebrate the Celtic May Day festival with this blend.
5 drops lavender essential oil (Lavandula angustifolia) for love, health, peace
5 drops patchouli essential oil (Pogostemon cablin) for energy, sex, aphrodisiac, grounding
5 drops tangerine essential oil (Citrus reticulata) for physical energy, joy, purification
1/4 cup carrier oil
Blend all essential oils in a glass or nonreactive bowl. Add carrier oil, and mix well. Store in a glass bottle.
Use to bless and purify anyone entering sacred space who is not allergic to any of the ingredients. Use with care, and print a copy of the ingredients to have on had in case of allergy. Tangerine essential oil is reported to be non-phototoxic but can still present sensitivity issues in some. Use with care."
-Blackthorn's Botanical Magic by Amy Blackthorn
NOTE: Essential oils and absolutes can be expensive, and this book has shown to present a few costly recipes, so take them with a grain of salt. I personally use oil infusions rather than essential oils because of chemical sensitivity, and it tends not to be of high cost comparatively. I take all of these recipes as a suggestion of correspondence rather than something I absolutely must follow. It's better to get creative and use what you have on hand rather than spend a ton of money on some oils you'll only use once or twice.

Scents
Verses relevant: BG3/DnD, Elder Scrolls, Wow, Dragon Age
As lore states, a lich is essentially an animate thinking corpse. Though his body regenerates itself, it's a continuous cycle of fast healing necrosis. He smells like literal death (if you know that smell, it's quite pungent. If you don't, consider yourself lucky.)
No amount of bathing eliminates the smell, but he covers it with his own blend of pogostemon oil (patchouli), cedarwood oil, and camphor residues. It's quite potent, but it covers the scent well enough for anyone/race that doesn't have heightened senses.
If he doesn't have the usual oil in stock, his second preference is one blended with lemon oil and other citrus notes.

How to make perfume
Making your own perfume can be a fun and creative process, allowing you to customize a scent that suits your preferences perfectly.
1. Gather Your Supplies:
You'll need essential oils, carrier oils, alcohol (such as vodka or perfumer's alcohol), distilled water, and small glass bottles for storing your perfume.
2. Choose Your Base Notes:
Base notes are the foundation of your perfume and provide depth and longevity to the scent. Common base notes include vanilla, sandalwood, patchouli, and cedarwood. Start by selecting one or two base notes that you enjoy.
3. Select Your Middle Notes:
Middle notes add complexity and character to your perfume and typically last longer than top notes but shorter than base notes. Popular middle notes include lavender, rose, jasmine, and ylang-ylang. Choose one or two middle notes that complement your base notes.
4. Pick Your Top Notes:
Top notes are the first scents you'll notice when you apply the perfume and provide the initial impression. They tend to be light and fresh. Common top notes include citrus oils like lemon, bergamot, and orange, as well as herbal and floral scents like lavender and mint. Select one or two top notes to complete your perfume blend.
5. Experiment with Ratios:
Start by mixing your chosen essential oils in small amounts and experimenting with different ratios until you achieve the desired scent. Keep track of your measurements so you can replicate the blend later.
6. Add Carrier Oil:
Once you've created your essential oil blend, dilute it with a carrier oil like jojoba oil, sweet almond oil, or fractionated coconut oil. Carrier oils help distribute the scent evenly and moisturize the skin. Start with a small amount of carrier oil and adjust as needed to achieve the desired strength of scent.
7. Incorporate Alcohol and Water:
If you prefer a spray perfume, you can add alcohol (vodka or perfumer's alcohol) and distilled water to your essential oil blend. The alcohol helps the scent evaporate more quickly, while the water helps blend the ingredients. Experiment with different ratios of alcohol to water until you find the right balance.
8. Store and Age Your Perfume:
Once you've created your perfume, transfer it to small glass bottles for storage. Allow your perfume to age for at least a few days or up to a few weeks to allow the scents to meld together and develop complexity. Store your perfume in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight.
9. Test and Adjust:
After aging your perfume, test it on your skin to see how the scent develops over time and how it reacts with your body chemistry. You may need to adjust the blend slightly to achieve the perfect balance of scents.
10. Enjoy Your Custom Perfume:
Once you're happy with your perfume blend, enjoy wearing it and sharing it with others. Experiment with different combinations of essential oils and adjust the recipe to create new scents that reflect your mood and personality.
Making your own perfume can be a rewarding and creative experience, allowing you to express yourself through scent and create a signature fragrance that is uniquely yours. Have fun experimenting with different combinations of essential oils and ingredients to discover the perfect blend for you.

Essential Oil Blend Version:
3 drops oregano
4 drops clary sage
5 drops peppermint
6 drops lavender
6 drops patchouli
10 drops lemon
10 drops grapefruit
Clary Sage and oregano is over powering? Trying to decide if I like it or if it’s giving me a head ache… I think I like it.
I did do a bit too much lavender, just cause I personally don’t need a lot of it, but. I do like it. I can smell the hints of floral and mint, and citrus. Next time I’ll do two drops of oregano, maybe. I also think I might not have used enough for a ‘big’ bottle but there where no mini ones which is what I like to experiment with, for the most part.
My notes from my notes app of the experiment. Personally I like the smell right when I put it on there, and while I do like the smell after it’s been sitting for a minute, it’s a bit more earthy, and the clary sage + oregano combo is a bit overpowering. But also?? It’s very vibe-y when it comes to it + Sleep Token. So yeah. Might try it again in the future with some different stuff, and the og list of things. Sorry again for all the notes lmao, but uhh. Yeah.
i can’t wait to attempt my own blend lol, and i’m definitely using this as a reference and jumping off point so i can figure out the right ratios!
i feel like my blend might need something else citrusy, just to cut the heavy woodiness a bit, but i’ll figure that out once i start making it lol
