I'm unwilling to have my mind changed but Oliver and Danny do not seem like they would have good chemistry or look good as a couple and Oliver definitely can't pull off military guy with edge
#i love oliver and i loved him in corrie but I'll be surprised if this works#he tried to be a bit edgy when held hostage by pat phelan and was about as scary as a baby rabbit#i just think he's too bland for aaron#which is a shame. i think him and ethan could maybe have worked with some effort but alas.#or even nicky though he's a bit old for him.

Hi, Dr Who Is A TV Show believers, I have some Corrie info for you. Susan Twist plays Lydia Hartman, a minor character linked to Nicola Rubenstein learning the truth about her parentage (more specifically, her mother was sexually assaulted by her father, serial killer Pat Phelan).
Nicola comes onto the show as the social worker for Seb Franklin, who Pat has hired as an apprentice at the builders yard/is allowing to live with him after his mum overdosed and his siblings were taken into foster care. Pat later tries to kill Seb and blames it on Nicola. Nicola herself kills Pat when he attacks her son with Gary Windass - who is Kelly's (Millie Gibson) foster dad.
I find it interesting how Susan plays a character involved in a storyline with some obvious similarities to Ruby's - the mystery parent, the fostering, Millie Gibson's character's foster sibling being attacked - and while that could be coincidences, it seemed worth mentioning!
#polly rambles#doctor who is a tv show theory#doctor who#ruby sunday#gatwa doctor#also worth mentioning that kelly is involved in seb being murdered (the hate crime happens after she slaps his gf and she gets blamed for it#because she was there trying to stop the guys from attacking seb and his gf)#so seb is pretty closely linked to kelly here!

One hour and three minutes before Silicon Valley Bank blocked all withdrawals, Pat Phelan got the last of his company's money out. Phelan's cosmetic medicine startup, Sisu Clinic, kept the majority of its reserves with the California-based bank. When he saw whispers of its problems spreading across the internet, he joined the digital bank run that ultimately pushed Silicon Valley Bank to collapse.
“I just messaged our chief financial officer and said, ‘Get the money out,’” Phelan says, adding he had to wait all night for the funds to arrive in his Bank of Ireland account. “It was an incredibly worrying 26 hours.”
After a tense weekend, regulators in the UK and US have stepped in to protect depositors, averting the most dramatic potential consequences of the largest US bank failure since the 2008 financial crisis.
But many in Europe’s tech industry warn of a slower-burn crisis to come. The reason that Silicon Valley Bank was so popular was because it filled a role that no one else would. It was part bank, part networking community, part venture capital firm. In some countries it was a major investor. In Ireland, the bank had planned to invest more than $500 million in technology and life science startups by 2024. In the Netherlands, the bank was in discussions about how to finance more local companies. Europe’s tech sector was already struggling with funding shortfalls, mounting losses, and widespread job cuts. The loss of Silicon Valley Bank only deepens the gloom.
“What happened during the last few days is once again there was a recognition that, especially when it comes to bigger [investment] rounds … there are not that many real big funds that can play a major role,” says Rinke Zonneveld, the CEO of Invest NL, a government-backed investment firm in the Netherlands. “We are dependent on US money.”
Silicon Valley Bank was embedded in Europe’s tech sector via a series of affiliated businesses and offices. Its Danish office, which didn’t have a banking license, focused on networking. The German branch did not offer a deposit business. But at the heart of that system was the bank’s London-based subsidiary, established in 2012, which helped startups across the EU with funding, loans, and accounts. On Friday, the Bank of England declared that Silicon Valley Bank was set to enter insolvency, before that arm of the business was acquired in a last-minute £1 rescue deal by HSBC bank.
But many of Silicon Valley Bank’s customers turned to the bank exactly because they felt that traditional lenders were not set up to cater to the technology industry’s specific demands.
The bank didn’t just enable tech companies with unusual financial structures to open accounts, says Check Warner, partner at London-based inclusive venture firm Ada Ventures. It also sponsored events and organizations trying to make the UK tech sector more diverse. “SVB was much more than just a bank,” she says. “I'd love it if a homegrown UK business was doing this role, but in the absence of that, Silicon Valley did it and did it really well.”
Silicon Valley Bank's struggles started with a bad bet on long-dated US bonds. Rising interest rates meant that the value of those bonds fell. As depositors started to worry about the bank's balance sheet, they pulled their money out. High interest rates have become a challenge across the industry, ending the cheap loans that tech companies got used to over the past decade and reducing available funding.
More than $400 billion in value was wiped from Europe’s tech industry in 2022, while some companies, like the buy-now, pay-later provider Klarna, watched their valuation plunge more than 85 percent. This year there’s been little reprieve, as layoffs continue within local startups as well as at Europe’s big tech outposts. At the end of February, Google confirmed it would cut 200 jobs from its business in Ireland.
“The whole tech industry is suffering,” Warner says. “Generally, in 2023 rounds are taking much longer; there's much less capital available.”
Against this backdrop it’s unclear whether any major European bank is able or willing to fill the niche that Silicon Valley Bank is leaving.
“Silicon Valley Bank is unique. There are not that many banks which provide startups loans,” says Reinhilde Veugelers, a senior fellow at economic think tank Bruegel and a professor at Belgian university KU Leuven. “Typically, European banks are not good alternatives, because they're way too risk-averse.”
And even if a bank wanted to take the risk, they'd likely struggle to replicate Silicon Valley Bank's deep knowledge of the startup ecosystem, Veugelers adds. “You need way more than deep pockets. You also need to be sufficiently close to the whole venture capital market and have the ability to do due diligence” she says. “If the bank had that capacity, it would have already been doing this.” HSBC did not immediately reply to WIRED’s request for comment.
Silicon Valley Bank was prepared to take risks that other banks wouldn't, says Frederik Schouboe, co-CEO and cofounder of the Danish cloud company KeepIt.
KeepIt secured a $22.5 million debt financing package—a way of raising money through borrowing—last year from Silicon Valley Bank’s UK business. Although the bank opened an office in Copenhagen in 2019, the branch did not have a banking license. Mainstream banks “are ultimately impossible to bank with if you are making a deficit in a subscription business,” Schouboe says. “The regulatory environment is too strict for them to actually help us.”
The way Silicon Valley Bank operated in Europe has earned its admirers. But now those people are worried the company’s collapse will warn other banks away from funding tech in the same way. It was SBV’s banking practices that failed, not the business model of funding the startup sector, says Berthold Baurek-Karlic, founder and managing partner of Vienna-based investment company Venionaire Capital. “What they did was they made big mistakes in risk management,” he adds. “If interest rates rise, this shouldn't make your bank go bust.”
Baurek-Karlic believes European startups were benefiting from the riskier bets that Silicon Valley Bank was taking, such as offering venture debt deals. The US and UK said Silicon Valley Bank is not system critical, arguing there was limited risk of contagion to other banks. That might be true in banking, he says. “But for the tech ecosystem, it was system critical.”

Trump tells NRA crowd that gun rights are ‘under siege’
ELECTIONS ’24
He calls Texas his second home, Abbott a ‘hot politician’
Former President Donald Trump, in Dallas to address the National Rifle Association convention, said Saturday that Second Amendment rights were under attack as part of a deterioration of America under President Joe Biden.
“Our Second Amendment is under siege. Our Constitution is being run through the shredder. Our borders are being obliterated,” Trump told convention delegates, who responded with several loud ovations, particularly when he lashed out at Biden.
“It’s time for a president who will replace weakness with strength, turn poverty to prosperity and vanquish Joe Biden’s corrupt tyranny with a great restoration of American freedom,” he said.
Trump used a phrase from his old television show, The Apprentice , to sum up the election in a fiery 100-minute speech that included touches of humor.
“To achieve the future you have to march into the voter booth and tell crooked Joe Biden, ‘Joe, you’re doing a horrible job. You’re a horrible president.’” Trump said. “Like Apprentice , Joe you’re fired. Get out of here, Joe.”
Promises deportation
Trump also promised that as president he will implement history’s largest deportation of undocumented migrants.
“It will be a big one,” he said.
Trump also promised to boost the Texas energy industry.
“Drill baby, drill,” he said.
Before Trump’s NRA speech, his campaign announced a new Gun Owners for Trump coalition led by “over 50 Olympic athletes, firearm industry leaders and Second Amendment advocates.”
And, as expected, NRA officials announced Saturday the group had endorsed Trump.
Democrats criticized Trump’s appearance at the NRA convention, which comes in the same month as the one-year anniversary of the May 6 mass shooting at Allen Premium Outlets, where a man with an AR-15 assault-style weapon killed eight people and injured seven others.
“There is one thing that drives this senseless epidemic — the shameless inaction of the Republican Party that has been bought and paid for by the NRA,” Dallas County Democratic Party Chairman Kardal Coleman said in a statement. “To add insult to injury, the City of Dallas and Texas could pay a combined $1 million in tax-payer dollars to host a convention that does not reflect the values of Dallasites.”
Trump’s Dallas speech offered a respite from his New York trial over whether he committed felony business fraud related to hush money payments to adult film star Stormy Daniels.
On Monday, Trump’s lawyers will continue cross examining Michael Cohen, Trump’s former lawyer and fixer who is central to Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s case.
“They want to take away my rights worse than Alphonse Capone,” Trump said. “He got indicted less than I did.”
Throughout his speech Trump praised Texas.
And he told delegates he played golf Saturday with former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo.
youtube
Trump has called Texas, a fundraising hub for his presidential campaigns, his second home.
Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick leads Trump’s Texas campaign and has advised the former president on state issues like border security and energy, as well as helping to make endorsements of statewide and local candidates.
Several high-profile Texans listened to Trump’s speech at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center, including Patrick and U.S. Reps. Pat Fallon, R-Sherman, and Ronny Jackson, R-Amarillo.
Some Texas Republican House candidates also were there, including David Covey, who’s trying to unseat House Speaker Dade Phelan, R-Beaumont.
Trump called Phelan “an absolutely terrible speaker of the House.” “He didn’t want to go into voter fraud,” Trump said. “He didn’t want to do it. … We have to get the speaker out of there.”
youtube
Trump also praised Gov. Greg Abbott, who addressed the convention before the former president.
“He’s a hot politician,” Trump said of Abbott. “You know why he’s hot? He’s doing a great job.”
Abbott demurs
Trump has said Abbott was on his short list of potential running mates.
Abbott responded that he’s flattered to be considered but is focused on leading Texas.
He is fully engaged in the Texas Republican primaries, using his time and resources to push candidates who support his plan to allow students to use public dollars for private school expenses.
Much of Abbott’s speech was about border security, where he praised Trump and criticized Biden.
“This crisis is about to come to an end in just six months,” Abbott said. That’s when Joe Biden will be fired as president of the United States of America, and Donald Trump will once again become president of the greatest country in the world.”
In his speech Abbott touted Texas legislation that he signed to promote the Second Amendment, including allowing Texans to carry guns without a permit.
By law, Texas is a Second Amendment Sanctuary State, and its agencies and officials are barred from assisting in the implementation of federal gun-control policies.
“Now, more than ever, we must fight to protect our Second Amendment rights,” Abbott said.

Trump pledges to ‘roll back’ Biden gun rules
ATF chief would be fired, he says at NRA event
DALLAS – Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump pledged to unravel gun regulations put in place by Democratic President Joe Biden during a lengthy speech to the National Rifle Association on Saturday, during which he accepted the influential group’s endorsement.
The address to thousands of NRA members at the group’s annual Leadership Forum in Dallas was light on new policy, but he used the platform to urge gun supporters to go to the polls in the November election.
“We’ve got to get gun owners to vote,” Trump said in his wide-ranging speech, which covered everything from his criminal trials to trade and immigration over more than 90 minutes.
“I think you’re a rebellious bunch. But let’s be rebellious and vote this time.”
The nation’s top gun rights group has now endorsed Trump three times – in 2016, 2020 and 2024.
The organization had cheered on Trump during his 2017-2021 term, as he appointed three conservative justices to the Supreme Court and took a series of steps sought by the gun lobby.
That included designating firearm shops as essential businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic, allowing them to stay open.
During the speech, Trump repeated a pledge to fire the director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, known as the ATF, on Day One of a potential administration.
He accused that agency, which enforces U.S. gun laws, of being heavy-handed with firearm owners and revoking licenses on frivolous grounds.
Republicans largely oppose stricter gun laws, saying the right to bear arms is established in the U.S. Constitution’s Second Amendment.
That stance has remained fixed even in the face of a steady stream of mass shootings that have led to calls from many Democrats to impose more controls on guns.
“In my second term, we will roll back every Biden attack on the Second Amendment. The attacks are coming fast and furious,” Trump said.
Following the speech, the Biden campaign accused Trump of prioritizing the desires of the gun lobby over public safety. Trump and Biden are set to face off in the general election on Nov. 5.
“Tonight, Donald Trump confirmed that he will do exactly what the NRA tells him to do – even if it means more death, more shootings, and more suffering,” said Biden campaign spokesperson Ammar Moussa.
As in previous addresses, Trump repeated a false claim that he won the 2020 election, and he went after Biden in aggressive terms, repeating claims of corruption that are not supported by available evidence.
Trump also unleashed a torrent of attacks on independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who is running a distant third and siphoning off votes from both front-runners.
Surveys show gun regulations are a divisive issue in the U.S., though a strong majority of Americans support at least some limits.
In a March Reuters/Ipsos survey, 53% of respondents said the government should regulate gun ownership, while 38% of respondents disagreed.
Among Republicans, only 35% said the government should be involved.
The four-day annual NRA convention gathered tens of thousands of gun enthusiasts and dealers, with many in the heavily Republican crowd wearing Trump gear Saturday, at the annual meeting of the National Rifle Association in Dallas, Texas, Trump floated the idea that he could throw out the constitutional amendment limiting a president to two terms.
“You know, FDR 16 years—almost 16 years—he was four terms. I don’t know, are we going to be considered three-term? Or two-term?” he asked the crowd. Some yelled, “Three!”
Donald Trump tells NRA crowd he wants to retire in Texas
Former President Donald Trump received an ovation at the National Rifle Association’s annual meetings in Dallas on Saturday when he teased that he might relocate to Texas.
“I want to move to Texas and I want to retire in Texas,” Trump said to applause.
Trump is expected back again Wednesday, when he has a scheduled fundraiser in Dallas with oil pipeline company billionaire Kelcy Warren.
and ….
While in the White House, he made 18 trips to the state, and he has returned 13 times after his presidency. By comparison, former President Barack Obama made 11 visits to Texas over two terms in office. Former President Donald Trump said he would consider tapping Ken Paxton for U.S. attorney general if he wins a second term in the White House.

Sebastian sat with Aleksander, his fingers playing with the ring on his finger. The Terresan jewel the color or his mother's eyes, of Angelika and his eyes. It still rankled him that everyone asked him, Angelika and her girls were more than capable of it.
"Will he come to kill him?"
Zimri and he both looked to Anastasiya. Sebastian shook his head standing.
"No. Andulvar is a lot of things but he won't attack children...I won't let him attack Aleksander in any -"
"He isn't a child Pa."
"You think he can survive a Blood Duel Zimri?"
Zimri's jaw worked and he looked away. Sebastian squeezed Aleksander's shoulder. He longed to cut and run, take his boy away from this entire long night. He looked to Zimri moving to touch his cheek.
"I know you want them to grow up fast, to be able to survive in a world that they aren't ready for. But throwing them to the proverbial wolves isn't the answer. It may have worked for the mother and I but it's not a route we wish to ever take."
It was bad enough all they saw those two weeks. Sebastian exhaled, feeling that oppressive sense of doom and rot.
Andulvar was here, and he was shaking with his rage.
"Stay here, keep them -"
"Why can't I fight Andulvar then? I'm more than capable of it. I'll -"
"Have you spoken with Arbela yet?"
Zimri frowned, thrown by the question.
"I - we talked this morning...why? She's been busy helping Ma. Why?"
Sebastian patted his cheek and stepped around him.
"Maybe ask her love."
Sebastian ignored his son's glare. He would not let Arbela raise that child alone. Even if it was too early to tell by anyone else but him and Natalia. Even if she wasn't comfortable yet telling Zimri without knowing for sure if it'll take. There had been too many children dying this last decade. Noelle's neice, Alina...even if Alina was fine now. Seeing how she'd been still terrified them both.
"Andulvar how is -"
"Your boy needs to answer for his crimes! She won't speak now Sebastian. What did he do to my baby girl? How dare he -"
Sebastian stepped toward him, The Forest Home rising above them both. He held his hands up placating.
"There had to be a different solution. Aleksander is sorry, he got carried away. He didn't mean to -"
"Didn't mean to? All your talk of Azriel and her as children. You think she wasn't listening to that? You think she didn't like the fucking fairytale? And where was Azriel in all this? He found her and thought nothing of letting it happen! If it is true what you say of them - then rather she die than be bound to such a spinless male."
Andulvar lunged toward him, his magic swelling. But the blow never came, Sebastian watched in numb shock as the arrow sank into his neck. As his body fell and went still. Would Zimri have -
Narcissus jumped down from the trees, Sebastian's hackles rose. He was cover in blood, but that wasn't what filled with dread. His eyes held no light, dead and void of color.
Something had made him snap into that Beast Mind.
"Narcissus? I was handling him just -"
"You're the head of our family. My parents are dead, my sister and brother -"
He chocked, light flaring before being extinguished again. He balled his hands into fists, ignoring the commotion that was coming from the Forest Home. He saw Anastasiya and Zimri running to them.
Narcissus ignored them, baring his teeth. He held the note up shoving it at Sebastian.
"Charmaine's brothers are free, they got retribution tonight for what Aerleas and Aedion did that night to their sister. Luscia - lusica found her mate tonight, he was part of Charm's group. He mated and claimed here tonight, he broke her Sebastian. She and - she and Phelan were taking to be Thralls. Nine years! Nine years in service for the nine years Charm suffered before her brothers could avenge her!"
He was shaking now, Sebastian could see Tharion and Amarantha now. He was rising everyone now. Sebastian bit back a sigh, hopefully Aleksander was listening. This was exactly the wrong reasons to do something. He stepped toward his nephew, careful to not trigger that violence again. Narcissus was softer than most Valg Males that grew up in the Old Country. But even he could snap given the right circumstances.
"And you killed Andulvar because?"
Narcissus face was grim, he didn't smile. Had he been there? Had he seen it happen??
"You owe me a Blood Debt now. I want my sister and brother taken from their custody. I want what's left of Charm's family destroyed."
Sebastian shut his eyes, but his peace didn't last long.
"And I want you all dead. Hypaxia will not survive loosing our father."
Ravenar glared at them, he had come for a fight. Sebastian glared at Zimri as he stepped forward at the threat. This was going to escalate into everything that had happened to Charm all over again. He could see it happen, his family would kill what was left of Hypaxia's family and leave her to it. And then what? He'd have the blood of his brother-in-arms on his hands.
Narcissus blinked at Ravenar. Before Sebastian could find some way to cut this tension. He saw Amarantha step forward. She passed Narcissus to Ravenar glaring at him.
"Maybe if your father didn't come here and disparage his family he'd have lived. I have no love for Aleksander but take the win. Go be with your sister -"
"Sweetheart, no one asked you to intervene. And if you're looking to actually convince me maybe use something other than that mouth."
Sebastian and Tharion both glared at Ravenar. Zimri hissed unsheathing his sword now.
"Fuck this. Amarantha step aside let me kill him for -"
Ravenar ignored them, touching Amarantha's cheek. To her credit she didn't flinch, only barred her teeth in a feral smile.
"You aren't worthy of touching any peice of me Ravenar. Maybe if you knew what consent was -"
His grip tightened on her cheek and then was gone. The blood sprayed on her and around them. Narcissus's blade was covered with blood, Ravenar lay on the ground, his throat slashed. Amarantha inhaled touching the blood on her cheek and looking to Narcissus.
"You didn't need to do that Narcissus I was -"
"He doesn't get to touch you."
//For Amie??//
Amarantha pitied most of the males she came into contact with. They were soft, they'd fall to pieces if anything ever impacted them enough, and she could probably eat them all up and spit them out again and again. Her power relished inside of her, longing to be released over and over.
So when Ravenar touched her, and she smiled at him mockingly, she wanted to reach out and rip his heart from his chest, while that sickly-sweet smile remained on her lips. Like it didn't cause her any grief at all to destroy the male.
How dare he touch her, and think himself worthy of a female like her?!
But he'd never really been smart, she had to admit, and perhaps that was the reason that, when the blood sprayed across her face from Ravenar's neck, she barely made a movement.
Barely blinked, even, and maybe a part of her was even a little annoyed that she hadn't been the one to end the arrogant, self-entitled male.
But at Narcissus's words, at that possessive claim in his tone, she felt a flood of desire inside of herself. Her heart beat a little faster, and she felt like she wanted-- Gods, she wanted to kiss him so much, to clutch his clothes and yank him against her and--
Amarantha shook her head, exhaling a breath. She made no move to wipe the blood stains from her face, from her clothes. But she smiled at Narcissus.
❝ I know. And you've made your point. ❞ Her words, whispered softly as she stepped closer to him, as she ran a hand down his chest to rest on the arm that held the bloodied blade.
❝ But for future reference, I can take care of males like that myself. ❞

That bit with Mel and Hunter reminded me of a reversal of the Phelan/Anna stuff in Corrie cause she straight up stabbed him and he was all ‘hahaha you’re gonna go back to prison’ and then the whole bistro was like ‘nah every single person on this street is gonna lie and say it was self-defense, die mad about it’...and then he did. Iconic.

Pat Phelan was a A+ villain
I'm actually going to miss him. He was such a great villain. But his death was due and I'm so happy with how Coronation Street did that. The fact that they brought Anna Windass back to finish him off was just so beautiful. I know its weird to call a murder beautiful but it really was. Because Anna's the first victim of Pats. She was the first person who he ever did anything bad to so for her to come back after all this time to finally stick the knife in, literally, was perfect. I loved it and to see Anna and Eileen reconcile that was amazing and heart warming. Well done Coronation Street they absolutely killed it
