due to overwhelming support, the pasadena convention center is no longer able to accept donations. if you still have food, water, emergency supplies, etc that you can donate please consider donating to one of the centers listed on the mutual aid los angeles network (malan) website under their January 2025 Fire & Wind Storm Resource Library.

"On Jan. 10, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle went incognito for a visit to Pasadena Convention Center to help with the relief effort following the Eaton Fire (one of three wildfires still burning in L.A.), where they served food, delivered supplies and met with people affected. According to Pasadena Mayor Victor Gordo, who spent time with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex there, Harry hopped into action when an elderly man asked for a doughnut.

"Gordo told the Pasadena Star-News that he saw Prince Harry, 40, sitting with a bedridden, elderly man and approached with a food cart, prompting Harry to ask the man if he wanted a sandwich, tangerine or water.

"'The gentleman said, 'What I’d really like is a donut,'' Gordo told the outlet, and cited Prince Harry as replying, 'There’s no doughnut here, but I will find one.'

"'He takes off, and 10 minutes later, he returns with a doughnut. The gentleman looks up and says, ‘I guess I need my carbs and my sugar.' That gentleman tonight is at the convention center and does not know it was Prince Harry who brought him that doughnut,' the mayor said.

"Gordo shared that the man turned to Harry and said, 'If you ever run for anything, I'll vote for you.'

Prince Harry and Megan Meghan Markle paid a low-profile visit to the fire-damged Pasadena area on Friday, Jan. 10, visiting with evacuees, people who lost their homes and first-responders.

The Duke and Dutchess of Sussex, escorted through the city by Mayor Victor Gordo, got a first-hand look at the the destructive path of the Eaton fire, which driven by ferocious winds tore through the region, left six dead, and destroyed or damaged 7,000 structures in Altadena and Pasadena.

“They wanted to offer their assistance, encourage the first-responders, encourage, lift the spirits of the volunteers and just say to people, ‘hang in there,’” Gordo said.

The couple — dressed incognito and wearing N-95 masks with Harry wearing a hat — visited the evacuation center at the Pasadena Convention Center, which has housed many of those, young and old, displaced by the fire, which exploded into existence on Tuesday.

They caravanned to the burn areas, where full neighborhoods had been decimated, and then to the Rose Bowl, where first-responders had set up their emergency response hub.

At one point at the Convention Center, Prince Harry, Meghan — who is from L.A. — and Gordo visited with people.

At one point, Gordo said he lost track of Harry. A few moments later, he spotted him sitting next to a bed-ridden elderly man. Gordo pushed a food cart over and Prince Harry asked the man if he wanted a sandwich, maybe a tangerine or some water.

“The gentleman said, ‘what I’d really like is a donut,’” Gordo said as he described the moment. “(Prince Harry) says, ‘there’s no donut here, but I will find one.’ He takes off, and 10 minutes later, he returns with a donut. The gentleman looks up and says, ‘I guess I need my cards and my sugar.’ That gentleman tonight is at the Convention Center and does not know it was Prince Harry who brought him that donut.”

He did tell Prince Harry, “if you ever run for anything, I’ll vote for you,” Gordo described the man as saying, as the youngest son of King Charles III and the late Diana walked away.

The visit by the couple — who live in Montecito — itself was hastily organized, Gordo said. But it was full of humanity, including serving food, greeting the first-responders at the emergency operations center and ultimately meeting, and hugging, with people rummaging through the rubble of their homes.

The couple was reported to have opened their home to friends forced to flee the Los Angeles fires.

“Tragedy often brings out the best of humanity,” a grateful Gordo said. “My heart goes out to all of the people who’ve been affected by the devastation brought on by this fire. I witnessed neighbors helping one another selflessly, first responders leaving it on all on the field.”

The mayor added: “That’s the message here. From the very top of our social echelon to the most in need, we all have to bind together in this moment.”

Norovirus outbreak reported at Pasadena evacuation shelter

The Pasadena Public Health Department said that three cases of the norovirus were confirmed at the Pasadena Convention Center shelter on Friday morning. Since Jan. 10, the American Red Cross has been operating the shelter, which is designed to house Eaton Fire victims who lost their homes or were forced to evacuate.

The norovirus has been experiencing a surge across the U.S. this winter. Symptoms include acute vomiting, diarrhea and stomach cramps, according to the PPHD. Younger patients can also experience dehydration.

Norovirus is mostly spread by sharing food, utensils or water. The PPHD said shelters are prone to the spread of such illnesses due to the close-quarter living situation.

Pasadena Humane has animal control officers at the Pasadena Convention Center and Rose Bowl for animal evacuations for the fires in California. They are sheltering pets and also looking for people in the area that can foster pets for a week.

I didn't realize that H&M explained to people how they can consider the idea of helping, and to check in on neighbours. One of their neighbours claimed that he tried to share a book or something like this RE neighbourhood history and he was turned away. He says that MM is never seen and PH is only seen a bit in the community. If the fire inches their way, it will be a bit awkward if they try to check in on him. At any rate, everyone is tucking in in their own way. They don't need to be told what to do. Celebs are boots on the ground right now. And they will take note if H&M continue to get this type of coverage.

The comments under British Vogue's post on FB were split down the middle. Surprisingly, a lot of positive support (from Americans?). But also some constructive criticism.

And someone made the same connection I made yesterday.
