Chapter 3 - The Party

Book: The Royal Romance AU

Synopsis- Since childhood, Liam has held a terrible secret that even he doesn't know about. As the years go by, he suspects more and more that there is something wrong with him. Can he put his life together and find happiness?

A/N- The first 4 chapters will have the feel of a one-shot, as each one is a glimpse into Liam’s past. But as the story goes on, they will all tie together.

A/N 2- This story is a bit different than what I usually write.. Ok a LOT different. Some terrible things have happened during Liam's life.. But the story isn’t without humor or joy. I swear it’s not all bad! The characters are still canon in the sense of their whole overall personalities, but of course there are several changes to fit the story.

Series Warnings- oh so many: language, drinking, violence, assault, abuse, murder, homophobia, bullying, mentions of suicide.. Also there will be some lemons in later chapters.

A/N 3- there’s a little throw back to Hayden and Kai from Perfect Match that you’ll catch if you know the story. In my head, I imagine maybe they went to Cordonia when they were on the run from EROS, and Hayden wanted to see what a real college party was like, so Kai helped him crash one.

Chapter 3 - The Party The third time it happened, he was nineteen years old. Liam, Drake, and Maxwell were headed to a party with Drake’s friends from college. Liam and Maxwell both attended private college and none of the snobs there knew how to have any fun. Drake had become a bit of a party boy since he started college and even joined a fraternity.

Max hugged his boyfriend tightly as they walked across the lawn to the Kappa Sigma house. Maxwell and Rashad had been officially dating for a year now, and the two were so lovey dovey, it was almost sickening. Rashad slipped his hand into Max’s back pocket and squeezed, “You look so hot tonight babe.”

Max grinned, nuzzling his face into Rashad’s neck. “Look who’s talking, you little stud muffin!”

Liam smiled and rolled his eyes as he looked over at Drake. He was glad Max had found someone who made him happy. He still looked back on their first kiss fondly. They kissed again a couple more times over the years, but nothing ever came of it. Liam was just happy to have Max as a friend. And there’s no way he could compete with Rashad when it came to giving affection. Liam paused at the door, as his phone began vibrating insistently in his pocket.

“Go on guys.” Liam sighed. “I have to get this.”

“Bro, does she ever let you off the leash?” Drake raised an eyebrow at him.

Liam rolled his eyes. “No.”

Drake, Max, and Rashad headed inside to the party as Liam answered his phone.

“Hello?”

“Liam baby! Where are you?”

“I told you.. I’m going to a party with Max and Drake.”

She sighed. “Ya, a party with girls!! Girls who aren't me!!”

Liam rubbed a hand down his face and held the phone away. God she was exasperating. He tried to break up with her a dozen times, but she just cried and made him feel guilty until he took her back.

“I have to go, ok?”

“No wait!” She paused for so long, Liam thought she had hung up. “I love you.”

“Ok.” He sighed, watching people dance through the window. Drake and some girl were making out and so were Max and Rashad. But they were always making out.

“When will you be home?”

“Not sure.”

She whined loudly. “Liiiiaaaaaam.”

“Maddie I have to go, ok.” Liam lied, “Drake’s calling me.” Drake had his tongue down some random woman's throat.. He most definitely was not calling Liam.

“Fine. But don't forget that I lov-”

Liam hung up the phone, cutting her off. Madeleine didn't love him. She just wanted to get close to his brother Leo, so that she could get her hooks in him and be Queen one day. Liam was most definitely going to end things for good with her.. Maybe tomorrow. Ya, tomorrow.

Liam opened the door and loud thumping music filled his ears. He saw a few people playing beer pong in the corner and some frat bros doing a keg stand in the kitchen as beer poured all over the linoleum floor. At least Drake wasn't that bad. Liam grabbed a beer from an ice chest as he made his way around the room. Max and Rashad were still going at it on the couch and Drake was nowhere to be found. Most likely he was upstairs hooking up with that girl.

Liam took a seat on a bar stool, sipping the cold beer and listening to the music. It felt good to be away from the guards for a night. Leo helped him sneak out of the Palace that evening by pretending Liam was sick in bed with a stomach virus. Leo had used that excuse a dozen times, but they never expected it from Liam, and it was all too easy to get away.. Well, maybe not ‘all too easy’. He did have to climb out of a second story window and sneak out through the garden.

On the makeshift dance floor, a woman kept eyeing him over the shoulder of the man she was grinding up against. She was super attractive and he wondered what exactly was going on in her head. Her and the guy she was dancing with looked like they were pretty close, so maybe he was just imagining it. Liam looked around to see if his friends were nearby, but now even Rashad and Max were gone. When he turned back to the dance floor the woman and man were both making their way over to him.

“Hi.” She spoke to Liam, her hot pink lips raising in a seductive smile.

Liam nodded and took a sip of his beer. “Hey.”

“I’m Kai and this is Hayden. We couldn't help but notice you from across the room.”

Liam smirked. “Is that right?” He knew most people recognized him immediately and he was used to it. Maybe they wanted a picture or something. “I’m Liam.”

“You wanna come get a drink with us outside, Liam?” Hayden looked at him questioningly.

“Uh, sure.” Liam was still waiting for one of them to say something about him being the prince but they didn't. It was kind of nice.

Liam followed the couple through the house and out back noticing a swimming pool and a hot tub. The pool was crowded with frat boys howling and dunking each other under the water. Liam wrinkled his nose. No thank you.

Kai took Liam’s hand. “Come on, we can grab a drink and get in the hot tub instead.”

The three of them got another beer and Kai and Hayden stripped down completely. Liam was a little taken aback. He was far from being a prude, but he still had an image to maintain being a prince and all. He stripped down to his boxer briefs and followed them in.

Kai closed her eyes and slid beneath the water. “This is so nice!” She sat up smoothing her wet hair back and looked over to Liam. “Come a little closer.”

Liam smirked and scooted closer to Kai. Hayden crossed the hot tub and got on Liam's other side. Liam took a long pull of his beer and lay his head back, closing his eyes enjoying the relaxing bubbling water. However, it didn't last long and his eyes shot open as Kai climbed onto his lap, straddling him. Even through the warmth of the hot tub, he could feel the heat between her thighs as she ground against him. Hayden leaned over and started kissing Liam’s neck, licking up to his earlobe before taking it between his teeth. Liam couldn’t help but moan loudly. Kai's lips were on his and the sensation of both of them pleasuring him at once, had him fully hard.

Liam reached one hand around to cup Kai’s ass and the other one moved between Hayden’s legs to stroke his hard length. “God.. “ Liam breathed out. He had been with a woman before, but not a woman and a man at the same time. This was like his biggest fantasy coming true.

“Why don’t we.. go upstairs.” Hayden panted in Liam's ear. Liam nodded emphatically. Kai got out first and grabbed each of them a towel which they wrapped around themselves before grabbing their clothes and making their way through the house and into an empty bedroom. Kai clicked the lock on the door and dropped her towel. Hayden dropped his next. Liam couldn’t believe how incredibly turned on he was that they both wanted him.

“Come here.” Kai beckoned him over, her wet dark brown hair cascading across her bosom. “Let us take care of you.”

“Why.. would you want to.. do that?” Liam questioned between alternating kisses with Hayden and Kai.

“Because you’re so fucking sexy.” Hayden nipped his earlobe, his warm breath causing Liam’s body to erupt in goosebumps.

Kai lowered Liam’s boxers to the ground and her smooth soft hand wrapped around his length, stroking him a few times while her other hand worked Hayden. Both men groaned as she increased her speed, taking turns kissing each of them thoroughly. Liam tried his best to think of something else besides the pleasure coursing through his body.. He wanted to savor every minute of this. “I want you inside me Liam.” Kai said as she sucked hard on Liam’s neck. She lay back on the bed, legs spread wide as she began touching and teasing herself. Kai looked as if she was ready to fall apart again just from watching them. Liam slowly increased his movement, letting Hayden’s response tell him whether or not to go further. Hayden sat up slowly and stretched. “Should we get back to the party?”

Kai sat up next, pulling on her clothes. “Guess so.” She looked back at Liam with a smile. “Thank you Liam. For.. all of this.”

Liam smiled back. “My pleasure.”

Hayden laughed loudly as he got dressed. “Ya I guess it was, wasn't it? But then again it was all of our pleasure!”

Liam shook his head with a smile. Hayden's terrible sense of humor reminded him of Maxwell. With his dark messy hair, and lean yet toned body type, he even looked a little like Max. “Guess I should get dressed too. I have no idea who’s room this even is.” Liam did not want someone to come in and find out the Prince of Cordonina was in bed with two people he had just met. The scandal it would cause would probably give his father a heart attack.

The three of them went their separate ways and Liam headed back downstairs. Wow.. I just had casual sex. A casual threesome! Drake and Max were going to freak out when he told them.

Liam scanned the crowded house for his friends. Drake was in the kitchen getting a beer and did a double take when he saw Liam.

“You look.. happy. And kinda fucked up.” Drake laughed as he popped open a beer.

Liam smoothed down his hair and clothes with a smile. “You’ll never believe what happened.”

They were interrupted by a loud crash in the living room, followed by shouting. A crowd was already starting to form and Drake and Liam pushed their way through to the front. That's when they saw Maxwell and Rashad on the ground. Max leapt back up to his feet angrily, before helping Rashad stand.

A tall hulking man stood over the two of them, snarling. “You little sissy boys spilled beer on my shirt.”

“Oh god, not again.” Drake shook his head in frustration and ran over to the man. “Dude, calm down. Your fucking shirt is already covered in stains. A little beer won't hurt it.”

“I didn't even spill on him!” Max interjected. “He ran into me and it fell!”

“Are you calling me a liar?” The man tried to push past Drake, but he held him back firmly.

“Look, Donny, let’s just go outside for a minute to calm down.” Drake tried to get the man to look at him. “You gotta stop acting like this when you drink. The Dean already gave you several warnings. You’re gonna get kicked out if you don't stop.”

Donny pushed out a quick breath. “Just get the fags out of my house.”

“Donny!” Drake glared at him with his mouth agape. “What the fuck is wrong with you?!”

Liam’s throat went dry and he felt himself shaking with rage. He looked over to Maxwell, who looked as if he was about to cry. How could Donny hurt Maxwell? Maxwell of all people. The most pure hearted amazing person in the world? Rashad was nowhere to be seen and everyone in the room was staring at Max.

Before he knew what he was doing, Liam strode over to Donny. “Shut your fucking mouth!” Liam shoved him hard causing Donny to stumble back against a table and fall.

“Liam!” Drake was trying to hold him back, but he was too hyped up on adrenaline and rage.

Donny jumped back up to his feet. “Who do you think you are, you son of a bitch?! This is my house! I run this frat!” Donny shoved Liam back, and Max caught him as he stumbled.

“Liam, let's just go.” Max pleaded with him. “He’s not worth it.”

Liam tried to take a deep breath and calm down. Max was right. This big dumb fucker wasn’t worth getting in a fight over.

“Don't turn your back on me!” Donny glared at Liam, and Drake was doing all he could to keep the hulking man behind him. “Get off me Walker!” He shoved Drake into a side table and he crashed to the floor. Donny grabbed Liam by the back of his shirt and spun him around. He was within an inch of Liam's face and he could smell the man's horrible stench of sweat and stale beer. “You didn't like me insulting your little boyfriend?” Donny nodded to Maxwell who was wide eyed behind Liam.

Liam grabbed Donny’s wrists, which were holding Liam tightly by the front of his shirt, and twisted them with a pop causing Donny to fall back onto the floor screaming. Liam had extensive self defense training growing up and this guy didn't stand a chance. Liam bent over him snarling, “I don't ever want to see you around my friends again. Or next time it won't just be your wrists that I break.”

“Fuck.. you!!” The man called out through his sobs as Liam and Max walked through the crowd and out the door. Drake was not far behind them.

“God, I’m so sorry you guys.” Drake ran a hand down his face, embarrassed, as he caught up with them. “He’s always an asshole when he drinks but this.. This was just awful.” Drake glanced at Max who was looking at the ground. “I’m so sorry, Max. I'm so sorry about what he said.”

Max shrugged. “I’m used to it by now.”

“You shouldn't have to get used to people treating you like shit.” Liam tried to get Max to look at him, as he rubbed his back soothingly. “Let’s just go.”

“Where’s Rashad?” Drake said as he looked around.

Max hugged himself as they walked toward the car. “Rashad left.”

“Where did he go?” Drake's eyes widened.

“He said he couldn't do this anymore.. Whatever that means.”

Liam frowned at him, “I’m sure he just got freaked out by that asshole. He probably went home to calm down.”

“Ya.” Maxwell said quietly, sounding unconvinced.

Liam and Maxwell were in no state to drive all the way back home so they stayed in Drake’s dorm for the night. It was only a couple blocks away from the frat house, and Drake didn't have a roommate so there was an empty, albeit small bed.

“Go ahead and take the other bed, Max.” Liam said.

“You sure?”

Liam nodded. “Ya.. I dont think I’m going to get much sleep tonight anyway.”

Max and Drake smiled at Liam sadly and turned in for the night. Liam sat at Drake's desk and scrolled through his phone, trying to get that unpleasant encounter out of his mind. Eventually his eyelids drooped and his head dropped down onto the desk.

3:45 am Liam awoke with a start, finding himself not in Drake's room, but outside in a ditch. He panicked, oh god, no not again. Liam looked down at his hands, dreading to see what they looked like, but they were clean. Not a drop of blood or a speck of dirt. He took a steadying breath as he patted himself down, feeling for any aches or cuts or anything out of the ordinary. Nothing. Why the hell am I in a ditch? Liam stood up and that's when he realized he was soaking wet. His tennis shoes squelched as he walked, and his damp t-shirt and jeans clung to his body. Why am I wet?! Liam finally realized where he was, halfway between the frat house and Drake’s dorm.

Liam didn't want to think about why or how, he just wanted to get back inside Drake's room before anyone saw him. He made his way down the nearly pitch dark road, the only lights coming from the street lamps and the moonlight. After an uncomfortable walk, Liam finally made it back to the dorm and took off his shoes before he entered the bedroom. His clothes were uncomfortably wet so he peeled them off and grabbed a pair of sweatpants and a t-shirt from Drake's closet. Drake and Maxwell were both sound asleep still. Liam tried to quell the questions in his mind so that he could get some sleep.. But sleep didn't come. He lay on the floor between the two beds, covering his face with his hands. ‘What is wrong with me?’ repeated over and over in his mind until the sun came up.

Drake rolled out of bed nearly stepping on Liam on his way to the restroom. “Oh shit! Sorry man.”

Liam sat up, rubbing his eyes. He was so exhausted. “It’s fine.”

“Did you sleep on the floor all night?”

Liam looked away as he lied to his friend. “Ya.” Other than the time I spent sleeping in a ditch.

“Those my clothes?” Drake arched an eyebrow.

“Oh ya.. I hope you don't mind. Mine were all dirty from the party.. Must have spilled beer or something on them.”

Drake chuckled. “Of course I don't mind. As long as you wash them, so I don't have to.”

Liam burst out laughing. “You lazy motherfucker.”

Drake laughed as he walked out into the hallway, “Hey the laundromat ain't free!”

Maxwell sat up stretching his arms over his head. “Hey Liam.” He frowned as he realized Liam had spent the night on the ground. “You gave me the bed and slept on the floor all night? That makes me feel like shit!”

“No, not all night. I also slept at the desk.”

“That’s even worse!” Maxwell shook his head. “We could have shared! I bet we could have both squeezed in here together!”

Liam chuckled as he glanced at the tiny mattress. “Maybe if we were on top of each other.”

“That might not be so bad.” Max smirked as he spoke quietly.

Liam cleared his throat and looked away. Max was just being funny. Surely that was all.

Just then, Drake came back into the room, pale as a ghost.

“What’s wrong?” Max furrowed his brow in concern as he studied Drake's horrified expression.

“It’s Donny..” Drake shook his head and blew out a long breath. “The fucking idiot got so wasted he passed out in the swimming pool and drowned last night. They just found him this morning.”
