Hi hi Fia! I was just listening to Mis-Directed again. It got lost since Boss was right before it and that cut like a knife but we really should have taken so much solace in it knowing that Lukola did not want to private, they wanted us to know. Its release was prior to awards season so they weren't trying to hide they fell in love on set as if it was a detriment to their acting or that they weren't really acting. They are good actors and they also fell in love ❤️ Misdirected was essentially a tell-all and we should celebrate it! 🙌🫶 🎉
It really was overshadowed by Boss 😞 I tried getting into it and found myself de-noising "Let's get this done" instead lol. But it truly is a reflection of Lukola in so many ways. I'm convinced N did that particularly themed audibook to be able to fit in her on set love story w/ L - and it really is beautiful.
Thankfully not all of us were distracted and Three Act Tragedy did a nice review of the parallels and @jmuz09 recently reviewed it and found some nuggets that confirm they weren't hiding that art imitated life - and yes, prior to the SAGs.
A few LOUD story points:
1- Their characters are in a relationship irl 👫. When a reporter asks about them being seen kissing in the street, Hattie replies “our characters are embarking on a romantic relationship isn’t that what this interview is about? The new story lines, fictional love lives which are other people’s business”.
2- The characters deliver lines that are scripted but are the actors' emotions irl 📜. "'I love you’, they were Iris’ words but the slight crack in her voice wasn’t scripted nor was what she saw in Anthony’s eyes”. There was also a point at which Hattie was nervous about a 2nd intimacy scene w/ Anthony, as she'd never had an on-screen partner so vulnerable & authentic - and one that made her thighs wet.
3- They are ready to be public 👀. They declare their love for each other in front of everyone on set. They kiss and someone points out there is a reporter recording everything and it will probably be on sm in less than an hour, to which Hattie’s replies “I don’t care... there was no longer anxiety or reservation, this was the right person the right time and she was ready for all of it and it was worth everything and anything"
Note: even if you just listen to the last 4 min. of the final chapter, it indeed tells all!
But perhaps they wanted us to move on from it because it was poorly timed - a well laid crumb that they didn't want to gain too much attn. because it was problematic for the A narrative that L needed to wrap up. *sigh* It did double as one of the promos designed to make us look away from the likely arrival of BN, however.
And let's remember, this was recorded in September... it's quite possible it was supposed to come out earlier 🎧

~Partner in crime~ Part 5
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4
Pairing:Melissa Schemmenti x Reader
Gender:soft, cute, friends to lovers, slow burn, hurt
Warnings:I don't think so
Summary :When they send you to work back in your home town, you start to recall all your memories from your teen years involving the redhead. And now it was finally time to face the past.
You sighed trying to calm the lump in your throat and the pain you felt in your chest as you remembered how things ended with her and how the last time you saw her she had already found her forever home by someone else's side.
Taking a last look at the file that had been brought to you, you reviewed with your eyes the name of the person involved: Anthony "Tony" Schementti. The man for whom you had received a promotion as a cop when you caught him years ago, but also the man that had cost you your whole future and the love of your life.
Many nights you spent reliving that arrest in your head, what would have happened if your partner had entered the building first and made the arrest? Would she still be with you, would your end have been different? What would have happened if you had him let it go? Would it have been worth losing your job to keeping her? You could have find a new job, but you could never find someone like her, Melissa was something special, something that you only get to live once, her magic made your life brighter, better, happier... And even if you tried to find someone new, your days never were as bright, your life never reached that peak of perfection and your heart never felt the same happiness...
You knew you couldn't live in the past anymore, you couldn't change anything and there was no point of spend your time speculating about what would have happened if... But you also couldn't have a full future if your heart had stayed in that past.
With sadness and pain you took that file and closed it, getting up from your desk and taking it to your boss to explain that you would not be part of the revision of the trial since you were involved in the case personally. He understood and after you finish arranging everything, you went to your patrol to start your first day of work on Philly.
That first week back in your home town was "normal", you tried to get used to the town again and to your new partner at work, he was a rookie under your protection and under your guidance, and he didn't had much idea of life.
The redhead popped on your mind more than once, more times that you would like to admit. Sometimes it was because you saw something that reminded you of her, in others she visited you in waves of loving or painful memories, she also visited you on dreams from time to time, where she looked at you with more love than the last time you talked to her. You knew where she lived and worked, it was on the file of her brother because she was his contact information, you only saw the address once, but it was engraved on your mind with no practical use, you would never dare to go to near that part of town and risk seeing her again after all this years.
Another thing that made you think of her was the invitation that was under your door when you got home a few nights ago, the school reunion for the 20th anniversary of your graduation. Everyone in school knew that you dated her many years, would they think that you were still together? They always thought you were the perfect couple, what would they think if they find out that she was married to one of her ex classmates?
You didn't have time to go to that stupid thing anyway...
The noise of interference on your radio brought you back to reality
-"Code Amber on the Philly mall, all free units respond to the scene" - The lady from the radio informed and you turned your lights and the sirens on, immediately changing route to the mall address
-"Copy dispatch, this is L-8230 on route" - You informed
-"Child got lost apparently 10 minutes ago in a school excursion to the cinema, a first grader using a gray t-shirt and blue sport pants, curly short dark hair, green eyes and dark tees, it's using a tag with their name on it, responds to the name of Chris"-she kept giving more instructions and you saw the mall a few blocks away. Your partner looked really nervous and scared, placing his hand on the belt where he had his hand.
-"Look kiddo, we are looking for a little kid, not to shoot anybody. Our coworkers probably already did a perimeter around the mall, if someone is trying to take that kid away, we will see it before they can get away with it. In the most common cases the kid is hiding somewhere inside the mall and we can find him in a few minutes. We will get there and talk to the teacher and the classmates to see if someone saw something, our job it's to be calm so they can be calm, if they start to panic, that only make our jobs harder, okay?"-You tried to explain everything so he could know what to expect and do his job in the best way
-"Y-Yes ma'am, I will follow your lead" - He said taking his hand off the gun holder.
When you arrived at the scene, the police already closed the mall and made a perimeter around it just as you said.
After parking, you quickly entered the mall with your partner following quickly behind you. There were many children gathered around their teachers and nervousness and fear could be felt in the air. Scanning the crowd you approached the teacher of the lost kid to ask a couple of questions. Among all of them you saw a blonde hair, which although many years had passed since the last time you saw her in person, you would recognize her anywhere. Kristin Marie was sobbing trying to keep her composure so as not to scare the other children, but in her eyes from afar you could see the desperation she felt and the guilt that one of her children had gotten lost.
Without trying to startle her more than she already was, you approached carefully and touched her arm
-"Kristin..."-you softly called but she was startled anyway
-"O-Officer..."-she began stuttering from her own sobs and you could see the surprise in her eyes when her sight reached your face-"(Y/N)..."-your name on her lips was just a whisper and she immediately collapsed in your arms crying on your vest, your arms held her protectively
-"Hey... It is ok... We'll find them, they're hiding somewhere and they are safe. Kids tend to hide thinking is funny, I'm sure they are around somewhere else. I promise we will find them" - You reassured. On your job you knew that you shouldn't do promises, specially knowing how unpredictable life was, but rigth now you would say anything to confort your old friend. But apparently, no matter what you said to her, you couldn't stop her from sobbing on your chest.
A well-dressed man approached you with a frown, looking at the woman crying in your chest
-"Pull yourself together Kristin! Don't you realize that this damn mall is full of glass and the reporters who are gathering outside can see you? Do you know how the name of the school could look if that child does not appear?" -The man spoke in a dry tone and for the first time in your life you saw Kristin scared, not by him, but by the idea that that child might not appear again. You carefully stood in front of the man, covering your friend with your body
-"BACK OFF!" - Your voice echoed on the mostly emptied mall-"A child is lost and all you care is the school reputation? Why don't you care about the safety of that kid? Why don't you worry about the parents of him? Their life could change forever and all you care is about some reporters outside?" - Your tone was dry and authoritarian, making him step back a little-"Do not interfere with this and don't talk to her again or I will kick you out of the perimeter so the reporters can eat you alive" - You warned him and he frowned again, mad, but smart enough to no say anything back.
Changing your expression to a soft smile, you looked at your friend who was sobbing silently
-"We will find him, do you want to look for him with me?" - You offered and she nodded, without strength to talk. With one hand you took your radio and began to check where they had already searched to narrow down the area. The other children were sent home with their parents to make the search easier. Apparently the entire mall had been searched and they also announced over each speaker the name of the lost kid to see if he appeared, but both happened.
Kristin started to panic again, but instead of letting her go down into a panic attack, you started to ask questions again
-"Where was the last time you saw him?" - You asked on a neutral tone
-"We were about to enter the movie theater, our was the room number 7, the children began to enter and I began to check their names on my list, inside that room there where only kids, teachers and the guys of the movies that clean, he enter the theater and I checked him on the board, but when I finish checking that every kid got inside, he was no longer on their seat, we searched all over but he was no where to be found, that's when we called the police"-she explained with desperate gesticulation
-"So... Only kids, teachers and cleaning crew, and from one moment to another he wasn't on the room anymore..."-You used your radio again-"Someone checked the interior of the building? The one that the crew of the mall uses to go around?" - You asked but everyone answered the same
-"Negative, he can't be there, you need a key to access" - they answered and you started to run to one of the service door, with the proper technique you kicked the door open and ran inside, Kristin followed you closer, screaming the kid's name
-"CHRIS! CHRIS ARE YOU HERE?!" - You both screamed. After searching for a few minutes, you started to hear sobbing on a corner, when you asked Kristin for silence, you could pinpoint the source of the noise coming from behind of a candy cart. Carefully your aproched gently calling their name
-"Chris, it's that you? I'm (Y/N), I'm a police officer, we have been looking for you, your teacher Miss Schementti is here too" - You encouraged Kristin to speak to him
-"Hey Chris... Everything is okay, you can come out now, your mom came to pick you up" - she whispered and the little kid came out from his hiding spot, their little face stained with tears and some spots of dried candy. The teacher, relieved to see that the child was safe, hugged him tightly lifting him off the ground in her arms, the child's crying stopped and the teacher's increased, a cry of relief and happiness this time-"How did you got here?" - she asked
-"I saw the the candy cart on the movie theater when we got in and I wanted to bring candy for everyone but there where no enough, so I hid inside of the cart so they will take me to the candy store, but when I got here I took the candy for everyone and I wanted to come out but I couldn't open the door, and nobody came back for me or opened the door"-they explained the best that they could and the teacher let out a laugh mixed with tears. While the teacher made sure that her student was okay, you communicated with the radio that the child appeared and that they should notify the parents.
Once the boy was reunited with his parents, the news were informed of the reappearance and they let everyone go home. You sent your partner home and decided to stay with Kristin
-"Did you bring your car?" - You asked and she denied with her head, hugging her shacking body
-"It was on the mechanic and also we came with the school bus, but now is gone..."-she explained, the adrenaline running low now making her body shake
-"Let's go, I will take you home" - You offer guiding her to the black patrol car. Once you were on your way to her house, which was still the same address as the last time you saw her in person, she told you what had become of her life and she asked you questions about yours, making the trip go by quickly. You explained that you had discovered that the child was in the corridors of the staff since he had not left through the front door and the only other exit that existed inside the room, was the service door. She also told you that her boss was a disgusting person but teaching those children made it worth staying.
When you got home you found it strange to see her car in the garage of her house since she had told you that it was in the mechanic, but with how scared she had been maybe she had been confused and you decided not to pay attention to it.
When she opened the door of her house an aroma of food made you smile, for some reason that aroma reminded you of your childhood and made you feel loved. You could also smell a perfume that belonged to a person very familiar to you, but before you could react, that redhead you always saw in your dreams came out of the kitchen holding a towel in her hands
-"Finally! I went to the mechanic to get your car and bring it like you asked, but when I got here your kitchen was a mess and I started cleaning and since you didn't arrived yet I also made you fo..."-her voice drowned on her throat when her eyes landed on yours. She looked practically the same as the last time you saw her, her hair was a few shades darker indicating that she surely had started to dye her hair to hide her gray strands, which did not surprise you since she was always very aware of her looks. On top of that, her face had new lines, especially around her eyes, you secretly hopped them to be from smiling so much and having a happy life. Her wardrobe didn't changed much, she still used tank tops and leather, her hair was in a ponytail that it was messy but looked amazing on her. She started using glasses that at that moment were on the top of her head.
Her eyebrows were almost on the roof because of the surpire of seeing you, that was a familiar mannerism of her.
She was the same Melissa, the Mel that once was yours, but at the same time she seemed like a completely different person.
Your feet were tempted to turn and run away before her surprised face changed to one of anger like the last time you spoke before breaking up. But instead, her eyebrows relaxed and her lips let out a soft, subtle smile. This time surprising you but nobody moved from where you were standing.
-"Mel... The food is burning" - Her sister warned breaking the spell that hung on the air. The redhead runned to the stove letting a few small curses out. You looked at her sister, unaware of what to do
-"Now that Melissa is here..."-You paused for a few seconds, her name on your lips felt so familiar and yet so strange, you were so used to say it but when you broke up you stoped mentioning her, even if you thouth a lot about her, her name never met your lips again. The redhead heard her name from your lips too and a chill runner through her whole body-"...now that she is here, do you want me to go home?"-You asked but the blonde took your hand
-"Don't go please, I'm don't feel so good yet and being with people helps... Beside we have to catch up since you are back" - she begged with her eyes and you agreed even if you were no so sure about it.
The night went calmer and comfier that you expected to. When the food was ready, the redhead served 3 plates for you all and you almost cried on how delicious it was, it was better that you remembered.
Although the conversation between you and her was almost non-existent, Kristin acted as an intermediary and the conversation about trivial topics flowed smoothly. The environment was not uncomfortable as you thought it would be, rather it was cautious, but bearable.
At the end of the meal, Kristin lifted the dishes quite fast and informed you that she was feeling better and sleepy, so you and Melissa could leave the house now.
She called you aside while Melissa put the leftovers in Tupperwares
-"Look, it's lovely to see you again and I missed you so much, but I wanna sleep now and we can get together another day, but now I want to be alone..."- she seemed a lot more calmer than before - "You know... since Melissa brought the car home she has no way to go back to her house..."-she started talking while you looked at her, you had a feeling that you knew where this was going
-"We can order an Uber" - You said but she kept talking
-"... And I'm afraid to ask her for an uber at this time of night..."-she continued
-"It's nine o'clock at night..." - you interrupted again
-"You know how crazy people is, you see it all the time in your line of work, you don't know what the person is capable of..."-she had a mischievous little smile on the corner of her mouth that she thouth you wouldn't notice
-"Spill it out Schementti" - You told her
-"Can you take her home? Pleeeeeeease?" - Her voice reached an anoying high pitch, impressive if you had in mind how deep her voice usually was
-"Kristen she hates me, we haven't seen each other in almost 20 years, she won't go with me even if I say yes"-You explained
-"Time has passed, feelings had changed, people changed, I think it would be a good idea to reconnect..." - she used a softer voice this time and you signed
-"Fine, I will take her home, but if this goes badly, I'm blaming you... Are you sure that you are okay to stay alone?" - You answered and she nodded exited
-"I'm much better, thank you" - she told you and you said your good bye to her and went outside.
When Melissa got everything ready and said goodbye to her sister, she left the house surprised to see you still there waiting, leaning on your car
-"Hey... Kristin asked me if I could take you home... If you don't want to is okay but if I didn't offer she would have killed me..."-You explained and she got closer
-"Yes please, I appreciate it" - she answered incredibly fast for your surprise, carefully you opened the door for to her.
At the beginning of the drive the music and your breathing was the only noise that you could hear, your head couldn't believe that she was there after all this years. Your mind was racing and your hands shook a little, at your work you had been in nerve-wracking situations and you were able to face it way more calmer that what you felt in that moment. For a few minutes you drove without knowing what to say until you remembered that you had no idea where you were going, truth be told, you knew where she lived because you saw it on that file, but if you drove her home without asking her where she lived, it would appear like you were stalking her and a little creepy
-"Mel..."-that was a common pet name that you used but now you weren't so sure hot to call her-"...Isa where should I drive you?" - You asked her and she seemed as nervous as you
-"I don't want to go home, Jacob is there..."-You thought she was still married, but maybe you were wrong and she got divorced and she had a boyfriend now.... Or maybe he was her son...-"my roommate brought his boyfriend home and the walls are too thin and I don't want to be there right now..." - she confessed and that raised more questions. Was she married or not? Why did she had a roommate? Did she feel uncomfortable in her own house?
-"Do you want to go for an ice cream? "-You offered unsure of what to do, if you invited her to your house it would look too forward and make her uncomfortable, if you took her home anyways it would look rude, so ice cream was the best option at the moment.
-"Yes please" - she smiled softly looking at you, you had missed her smile so much.
When you arrived to the ice cream shop, she insisted on ordering your cone
-"Chocolate and strawberry?" - she asked with confidence still remembering your favorite flavors.
While she order, you stared at your phone watching some messages.
After a few seconds, a cold hand landed on your neck tracing the scar that it was there, sending a chill all over your body. You didn't need to look up to know it was her, her hands soft and delicate as always
-"Life has been... Eventful" - You mentioned and she gently smiled, letting your neck go from her softly grasp
-"I can see that"-Gently she sat on the chair next to you to be closer, instead the one across the table. She offered you your ice cream letting her hand touch yours
-"Thanks... How are you doing?..."-you asked, unsure about the words that left your mouth
-"I've been okay... I'm working on a place I love and I have some nice friends..."-she told you and you smiled knowing that she was happy
-"It's Jacob your son? You mentioned him earlier..."-you tried to ask a another question hidden beneath that one
-"No... He is a coworker and a roommate, it's helpful to pay the bills. Since I got divorced from Joe it's was hard to maintain the house alone...I guess that at some point Marie told you that I got married" - she said a little ashamed
-"She didn't needed to, I saw you on nana's funeral with him" - You murmured and she looked surprised
-"I didn't saw you... I thouth you didn't went" - she confessed
-"I couldn't miss it..."-You signed-"not after what she did for me"
-"Did you got married?" - she asked
-"Never... I focused at work..."-You said honestly
-"You always wanted to get married and have kids..."-she still remembered
-"Yes... But only with the rigth person and I never found it again" - You whispered looking deeply at her eyes, she was the right person and when you lost her, you also lost your dreams. You exchanged tentative looks, beneath the nostalgia, she sensed the weight of years.
This time, the silence was no longer awkward but companion able. Even after all this years, you both could feel how the connection still remained. This reunion was a doorway to the past and a bridge to the future. Or at least that's what you were expecting
-"Do you have a few regrets?" - she asked and you nodded
-"A few..."-You said honestly and she also nodded agreeing with you
-"You seem... different" - she said, studying you and you frowned
-"Different?"- you repeated.
-"More guarded" - she clarified. Your eyes flashed, a hint of vulnerability she easily saw
-"Life has a way of doing that" - you said, your voice measured. She sensed there was more.
-"I'm so sorry about leaving you... I'm sorry for taking it all out on you, I'm sorry for ruining our lives, for walking away... I'm full of regrets, all my life I tried to get the happiness that I had with you and I never could. I fucked up time after time, I never loved him, I was just trying to fulfill the emptiness of not having you but you always were irreplaceable. I missed you every passing second and I can't believe how much time has passed between us and yet... I feel the same love that I felt the day that we were on my prom night, our first time together"-she said barley above a whisper, so much vulnerability on her eyes, she leaned a little, scared of speaking lauder and letting the whole world that she never stopped loving you. You just stated at her, unsure of what to say, unsure if this was real. After a few seconds, she got nervous because you stared at her without saying a word
-"Don't stare...say something... scream, shout, get mad at me, say something!" - she screamed and flinched when you lifted your hand, she felt like she deserved a slap but never thought you were capable of it. She choosed to close her eyes and get ready for the painful slapping, but instead of that your hand gently caressed her cheek. With her heart pounding, she opend her eyes confused, only to find you looking at her with such love in your eyes
-"You are even more beautiful than the day I lost you" - You whispered and her heart shattered in million pieces, after all that happend, after all those years, you never stoped loving her.
As she looked at the love in your eyes, she leaned on your palm, she had missed your warmth so much, your smell, your smile, your peace, your love, all of you.
As you locked eyes deeply staring at each other's souls, the years melted away. Time had etched its mark on your bodies, but your eyes still sparkled with the same mischief, the same love
-"Aren't we too old to be doing this?... We aren't teens anymore" - You asked, scared of getting your heart broken again
-"We aren't too old to choose love... It's never too old for happiness... We will get our happy ending... Finally together" - she whispered and kissed the palm of your hand. As you enjoyed the warmth of her lips on your palm, you finally accepted something, no matter how much time passed, how many mistakes, how much distance... Some sparks never truly fade and it was never too late to start again.

Molly…what happens when Kate sees Anthony the next day? I suspect an angsty conversation on the drive to the children’s hospital. How does Kate come to realize that Anthony wants more than just a short term, secret affair? Does she feel the same and she’s afraid to tell him because let’s face it…signing up for a royal life is in many ways a huge sacrifice and maybe she’s convinced he won’t think she’s worth it?
Oh it’s pretty tense. Mostly because they’d sort of agreed like a month or two before that night that they weren’t really seeing over people. It’s a relationship, at least in Kate’s eyes. She describes herself as Seeing Someone. when she first met Michael she didn’t feel single and she told him she wasn’t and now it feels like her and Anthony are fighting and she doesn’t know why. She hasn’t done anything. And it just… feels like it had started to with James. She’d stayed with him for years too long anyway but she’d started to realise that he didn’t actually like her. Or he did, but only enough to tolerate her. What he really liked was the attention he got from the rumours that swirled around them. The speculation of an engagement that she knew was never coming. Or rather she’d known she’d never accept. He’d never even met her parents. She hadn’t wanted him to. He’d loved the idea of being the boyfriend of a future queen much more than he’d liked her. Kate.
And maybe, no matter how different Anthony seemed from him; He was losing interest as well.
He bowed when she exited the house, the car already on the drive, “Your highness.”
“Good morning, Anthony.” He opened the car door for her to slide in and she cleared her throat as she put the screen up between the driver and herself, “Anthony could you sit in with me please? We need to review the plan.”
It was unfair of her, she knew, to force him to talk to her when he clearly wanted nothing to do with her. But she didn’t want to keep feeling like this. She’d missed him last night, when she’d gone home and taken off the stupid lingerie she’d bought with him in mind and gone to bed early, an eye mask on that made her feel no better.
Anthony inclined his head again, and slipped into the car beside her, clearing his throat as the car pulled away, “We’re scheduled for about two hours, but I know you’ll want to be-”
“I don’t want to talk about that.”
Anthony swallowed, “I’m sorry, I didn’t go home with you last night.”
Kate rolled her eyes, “I’m not mad we didn’t have sex. I’m mad because it feels like we’ve had an argument and I don’t know what the fuck I did.”
Anthony pinched the bridge of his nose and his fingers twitched beside her when she tried to lay her hand over his, “I… I don’t know. I saw you with… that Prince, Stirling. And I… I don’t know.”
Kate’s stomach dropped, “Okay, well, nothing’s going on between Michael and me.”
“But your parents wish there was.”
“He has a girlfriend in the city. That’s why he keeps coming back. He and I are friends.”
Anthony froze, “A girlfriend?”
“Yes, he has a girlfriend. And He knows that you and I…” She wasn’t sure how to categorize them. They hadn’t.
“He knows about us?”
“Yes, he doesn’t care, we’re just hanging out.”
Anthony nodded slowly, swallowing, “Well, your parents still don’t know so it doesn’t matter.”
“Is that what you want? You want me to tell them?” She was surprised how eager she was to do it. If that’s what he wanted, She was ready to start the process of him being presented as her partner. Even though she knew what it would mean. They’d be expected to marry in due course. She’d been with James for years and the official palace line had been that they were “Spending time together” Another thing he’d grown impatient with. But for Anthony she would do it.
“I don’t… know. No.”
“Because you aren’t sure about me?” It would be better to know. She’d rather know now and spend the weekend with tears rolling down her face
“Because I’m not ready for this to be over.”
The car pulled to a stop and before Kate could say anything, Anthony had thrown open the car door and was waiting for her outside.

Movie Reviews:
🍫 Reel One's For the Love of Chocolate is a fantastic movie!! -Maria
🍫 For the Love of Chocolate (youtube) I liked the storyline with the leads. It was sweet! But I didn't appreciate the sister's storyline. Her boyfriend wants her to move in with him and in the end he gives her keys to a house he bought for them. Too bad they had to add that part! The rest of the movie was great. ~Anonymous
🍫 For the Love of Chocolate - I streamed this movie through Roku - I believe last year. Like Anonymous said above, the sister storyline wasn't my favorite. She continually talks about whether or not she should move to the city to be with her boyfriend with no talk of marriage. I wouldn't be surprised if GAF edited this out. Also, I really like both Rhiannon Fish and Jesse Hutch, but I wasn't sure I felt a strong connection between them in this; however, both played very likable characters. The subject is chocolate, so of course, it's still a sweet movie! ~Net

I've been listening to ' All my exes moms' by Brooke Alexx on repeat.
it just got me thinking about how the entire song could just be the Bridgerton partners talking about Violet.
Like imagine that Simon, Kate, Penelope, Sophie, Phillip, Michael, Gareth and Lucy used to date the Bridgertons but for some reason or another broke up with them. That doesn't mean that they broke up with Violet!. Who is the kindest nicest mom ever.
And the Bridgertons finding it supremely awkward that their exes just refuse to cut contact with their mom.
Kate be like ' I broke up with you, not with your family, I can take your mother out for dinner if I want and my mom agrees' Anthony has no refutal for that because he was the one who pushed her away untill they broke up since he was too close to falling inlove. And whenever Kate feels too lonely, she just calls up Violet and just tells her all about her life, and the things she feels she can't tell Mary. Because Violet is a 'cool mom' and she gets Kate
Phillip, Sophie and Penelope would so rather spend Mother's day with Violet, and frequently overdo it with the mothers day gifts. Because Violet is the only mother figure who's ever made them feel warm and accepted. To the point where Violet tells Eloise, Benedict and Colin to keep their mothers day visits short because her favorite adopted kids are taking her on a cruise for mother's day and really she doesn't want to make those sweet children uncomfortable.
Simon often hangs out with Violet whenever she's visiting lady Danbury and Simon low key brag about how he's doing in the recent performance reviews at work and his recent wins at the boxing ring, Violet thinks its cute and she's the good cop to Lady Danbury's bad cop. Because Anthony is just as workaholic as Simon, her darling ex son in law really needs a break, 'dear Simon have you heard about Yoga. Or maybe Kapoeira is more your thing. Much more relaxing than boxing'
Gareth and Lucy like to bring Violet their report cards and University awards because at least she gets excited when they get good grades. They usually join Violet Saturday mornings for brunch to tell her all about how much their families drive them crazy and how hard Lucy is working to get a scholarships to some Ivy league school, far away from her uncle. While Gareth moans about how Uni is actually the worst because of how hard his teachers are. Violet understands them, because she had to scrape by in school too, mom Violet will help with homework!
Meanwhile there's Violet actual children who have to listen to her talk about how sweet their exes are and really she doesn't understand why the breakup happened before those darling children are angels. Because it's obvious that Anthony, Benedict, Colin, Daphne, Eloise, Francesca, Hyacinth and Gregory are still pinning after the one that got away
-
'Mom may I remind you she broke up with me, not the other way around'
'telling a girl you're incapable of loving her will get you that reaction Anthony, really I raised you better than that, Kate is an absolute Gem'
-
'We just wanted different things in life mom'
' Sure you did, darling Sophie wanted stability and you just wanted to keep everything ambiguous, Benedict if only you had just....'
-
'He just doesn't want to start a family'
'Did you think to ask why? Daphne, this is Simon we're talking about, his definition of family might not be the same as yours, why if you knew....'
-
'I'm the victim here mom! Penelope is the one who picked her career over me'
'Well to be fair, her career isn't going to wake up and hightail to Tahiti the moment she asks for a wedding ring Colin, that sweet girl, I can't believe you broke up over that '
-
' We just weren't right for each other, everything happened too soon and he didn't even tell me he loved me'
'You ran scared because he was too good to you and you were afraid that the other shoe would drop. Poor Phillip, he's still wondering what he did wrong '
-
'Well Michael did hightail to India to avoid me'
'He was obviously avoiding his feelings, you didn't need to be so harsh on him Fran'
-
' he's the one who broke up with me for being too much of a trust fund kid, ugh, I can't help it if my family is rich'
' Gareth is a mature person Hyacinth, the boy just thought you didn't take his money problems seriously!'
-
'Haselby is gay mom, Lucy seriously would rather go to prom with a gay guy than date me'
'Gregory for the last time, stop mopping, she isn't dating Ricky Haselby to spite you, she's just helping a friend save face Infront of his father, you were the one who blew things out of proportion'
-
And for the Bridgertons it just feels like Violet is taking their exes side. But really she's just trying to convince them to get back together, because she knows they all still love each other.

[NOTE: Competency kink, anyone?]
“Oh. Kate.”
Anthony was surprised to find his wife reclined in a chair in his study, book in hand. She looked up and smiled as he approached.
“I thought you were accompanying Franny to the modiste this morning.” He kissed her temple as Kate closed her book and placed it on the side table.
“I was. We returned an hour ago.” She answered, seemingly bemused.
“Well, you should have found me.” Anthony looked down at his pocket watch, his eyes widening when he read it. “Ah, I do seem to have lost track of time.”
“Yes, it seems.” Kate’s soft laugh was good-natured.
“Oh, the modiste! Our account needs to be funded for the season.” Anthony moved to his desk.
“It is,” Kate said, causing Anthony to pause before settling into his seat. “I have confirmed it.”
Anthony raised his eyebrows. “When?”
“This morning,” Kate said, adding, “while we were at the modiste,” when Anthony didn’t immediately indicate understanding.
“Oh, right. Of course. Forgive me.”
“No need,” Kate got up and walked over to lean against the desk beside Anthony’s chair. She ran a hand through his hair as she asked, “Are you quite alright?”
Anthony caught her hand in his. “Yes. It is simply that the beginning of the season can be quite…” he exhaled dramatically, “taxing, to say the least.”
“Of course.”
“With so much to do, I sometimes find it hard to decide where to direct my focus.”
“Well,” Kate pointed to a stack of papers at the corner of the desk, “Here is a task for you. I have applied my signature where I could and those contracts have already been collected. Those are the accounts that will not accept my designation and require yours,” the latter part said with much derision.
Anthony nodded wryly at his wife’s annoyance. He turned his attention from Kate to the papers in question, and paused again, furrowing his brow. “What is this?”
Kate looked over her shoulder. “Your… desk? I would think you would be familiar with it after more than a decade, but perhaps I have overestimated–”
Anthony rolled his eyes. “Yes, yes, but what has been done to it? I do not think I have seen so much of the actual surface of it in years. Surely something of significance is missing.”
“Ah. No, nothing is missing. I simply organised it, so that I may actually get some work done. Honestly, Anthony, I do not know how you managed to be so productive for so long considering the state in which it was.”
Anthony looked from this desk to Kate, who seemed to be giggling at his wonder. “When did you do this?”
“Anthony, I have been managing to keep it orderly since we returned from the country,” she scoffed. “Most recently, before breakfast, so that I could review candidates for Francesca’s new lady’s maid. You and I have appointments to meet with them this afternoon.”
“You have already…” A laugh bubbled out of Anthony, spurned on by a feeling he couldn’t quite name. Disconcertion? Relief? Embarrassment? Perhaps some combination of the three, or something else entirely.
Anthony shifted his chair towards Kate and pulled her into his lap. She settled in happily.
He kissed her jaw before speaking into her ear, his voice low. “Is all this the reason our bed was cold when I awoke this morning?”
He smiled smugly when he felt her shiver. Encouraged, he gathered the skirt of her dress in his hands until the hem skimmed up over her thighs, giving him the access he sought.
Anthony could tell Kate was struggling to keep her voice even as she answered.
“I… am afraid, as the season gets underway, my attention must be further divided, which means less time–”
“For me?” Anthony’s hand reached its destination, and had its desired effect, as Kate seemed to lose her train of thought, if only for a moment.
“Only in a singular aspect, yes.” She leaned her head against his and he ghosted his lips over the shell of her ear.
“Well, that simply will not do.” A second finger followed the first that had disappeared into his wife’s core.
“No?” Kate whimpered.
“No. I will not stand for it.” His thumb started moving over the outside of her, causing her to grind her hips into his lap.
Kate said breathlessly, her eyes screwed shut, “What remedy then, husband?”
Anthony tsked, shaking his head. “Viscountess… I have every confidence that you will find a way to manage your time such that none of your duties are shirked during the season. You are undoubtedly the most capable woman–” He laughed at Kate’s ability to glare at him even in her current state, “–person in all of England. And I will offer my assistance.”
She laughed as she gripped his shoulders desperately. “Oh, how grateful I am.”
“Kate?”
“Mmm?”
“What were you doing when I walked in here?” With his free hand, Anthony started undoing the buttons on the back of his wife’s dress.
“Rewarding myself for… all my hard work with a… um, a book.“
“Might I also reward you?”
Kate was starting to take over the pace, working against his hand more than his hand was working against her. Still, she managed to speak between gasps.
“Reward? I suspect these current means of yours may actually be for a selfish end.”
Anthony’s laugh was dark and foreboding. “Perhaps you are right. Perhaps I should stop.” He wrenched his hand away.
“Anthony!”
“Shh.” He soothed Kate as he moved her to sit on the edge of the work surface, pulling down her loosened bodice. Speaking before closing his mouth over her nipple.
“I think we should make use of this immaculately organised desk.”

My theory of "Now"
The following is taken from page 83 of the book “Solitude" by Anthony Storr:
“…attempting to make a coherent narrative out of his life and, in the process of doing so, hoping to discover it’s meaning.
….”but any enterprise which promises to make sense of the chaotic aspects of an individual’s life will continue to appeal to people on that ground alone”
My margin note on that page read as follows:
“Yesterday, I ran into a 1994 journal entry and a picture of me 10 years ago or so. Man, I’ve aged and greyed. And, wow, 1994 was a beast.
I like now. I’ve etched out my Lew nitch far from “of course”
N: Thursday 10/29/2009 6:20am
________________________________________
N: 7/3/2024
I was talking with a friend that I’ve kown for over 50 years on Sunday. I told her about my current theory that we can’t know this “now”. This now is the only place where fear and doubt exist. Because this now is unformed and uncertain. It is pliable and subject to change based on later contact with the past and future perspectives. There is no worry in the past or in the future. Events that occur after this now will put it in perspective. Only then will “now” be revealed for what it really was. (My friend said that we can know now. What she knew of that Sunday now is that we would be friends to the end).
I included the above margin note as an example of my theory . The world of 6:20 am 10/29/2009 sustained my Lew nitch because I had a loving partner, Jim. 10 days later, on November 9, 2009, he died of liver failure. A totally unexpected death.
My “now” of 10/29/2009 6:20 am was revealed to be the last moments on the Titanic before it struck the ice berg. It was the last of a dream before being jarred awake.
What brought me to the above theory of the truth of “now” was my review since 2020 of journals that I have kept since 1977. I read a past entry with the knowledge of what is going to happen. I know what is going to happen. That knowledge transforms the former “now”. Broadened out into what it will become, it reveals that what I perceived as now , then, was not so.
And, touching the past “now, through journal entry review, alters my current “now”, thus altering the future.
#journaling#writing#gay relationship#journal review reveals the truth about a past “now”#worry and fear exist only in this now. There is no worry or fear in the past or in the future “now”#Anthony Storr 's book “Solitude”

Recently Viewed: Across 110th Street
[The following review contains MAJOR SPOILERS; YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!]
Recently, I read The Devil Finds Work, a collection of essays by James Baldwin in which the famed author, poet, playwright, and activist expresses his personal opinions on cinema, with a particular emphasis on mainstream Hollywood’s oft patronizingly simplistic depiction of race relations in America. In the book’s most scathing section, he thoroughly dissects the filmography of Sidney Poitier—intellectually dishonest stories that, in his unflattering estimation, utilize the basic language of progressivism in order to reinforce the very status quo (i.e., prejudice, discrimination, segregation) that they purport to defy. He argues, for example, that the conclusion of In the Heat of the Night rings hollow: the two protagonists return to their respective communities—Rod Steiger’s rural sheriff to his sleepy small town and Poitier’s Mister Tibbs to the bustle of the big city—ostensibly transformed for the better… but has the culture of hate and division surrounding them truly changed in any meaningful capacity? Ultimately, Baldwin concludes that such movies are superficial at best and outright harmful at worst, too naïve and deluded in their ambitions (due to their narrow perspective on the subject matter—the producers were, of course, predominantly Caucasian) to actually say anything of substance.
I don’t know if Baldwin ever analyzed Across 110th Street, but I’d be interested to hear his thoughts, because it feels like a direct response to many of his criticisms. This is a bitter, pessimistic tale that offers no false promises of relinquished privilege, unlearned bigotry, or reconciliation between the hypothetical repentant oppressor and his erstwhile victim; such cathartic fantasies have no place in its bleak philosophy. It deconstructs virtually every trope and cliché implemented in the service of assuaging white guilt; behold: a buddy cop drama in which the reluctant partners despise each other from start to finish, and have only just barely developed a grudging tolerance by the time the climax rolls around; a police procedural in which the authorities range from corrupt to ineffectual to indifferent, and are consistently a step (or several) behind the criminals regardless of where they fall on that spectrum; a tragedy in which the sympathetic “villains” aren’t Machiavellian masterminds or amoral monsters, but rather poor, destitute, disadvantaged ex-convicts desperate enough to rob the mafia and foolish enough to believe that they might get away with it.
Yaphet Kotto plays the darkest possible interpretation of the Virgil Tibbs archetype: a relatively young, hungry, college educated detective eager to prove his worth, yet adrift between worlds: his fellow officers dismiss him for the color of his skin, while the denizens of Harlem see his badge and condemn him as a traitor to his people. Anthony Quinn is equally superb as his foil/counterpart, sinking his teeth into the role of the cynical, street smart, seasoned gumshoe that resents being paired with an “upstart” for what he perceives to be “political reasons.” Despite the obvious challenges of portraying such flawed, volatile, potentially problematic characters, both actors navigate their sprawling complexities with aplomb, effortlessly elevating the material: Kotto embraces the inherent contradiction of a well-intentioned crusader for social justice nevertheless tacitly supporting a fundamentally broken system that has traditionally subjugated his brothers and sisters; Quinn likewise lends a welcome degree of nuance to a performance that, in lesser hands, could easily have veered into the realm of shallow caricature (it is, after all, tempting to pretend that racists lack any redeeming qualities whatsoever; unfortunately, this is rarely the case in real life—which is precisely what allows reactionary ideologies and regressive values to perpetuate). Good thing, too, considering the narrative revolves around their relationship more so than their investigation; indeed, the primary conflict essentially resolves itself while our alleged “heroes” are busy bickering—which is probably the most blunt and blatant thesis statement I’ve ever encountered.
Bolstered by exquisite cinematography (the urban decay of New York has seldom looked so grotesquely gorgeous), razor-sharp editing (the blood-soaked introductory montage—which rapidly cuts between images of money, guns, and frantically darting eyes—is especially captivating, evoking Sergio Leone’s sun-drenched Westerns), and Bobby Womack’s irresistibly funky title song (so catchy, in fact, that Quentin Tarantino repurposed it for Jackie Brown’s opening credits sequence), Across 110th Street is as immaculately crafted as it is thematically rich—a certified classic that transcends genre, standing head and shoulders above its comparatively conventional blaxploitation contemporaries. What a deliciously nihilistic experience! I wonder if Baldwin would have appreciated its painful emotional authenticity…

This was an excellent show from the premier BritWres promotion, that featured great action up and down the card, a whole load of good, nothing bad, and the best match of the year so far.
Things kicked off with a fun, but unspectacular Scramble match, that had the surprise inclusions of Shigehiro Irie and AEW's Global champ, Orange Cassidy, who got a huge pop and put his belt on the line here. Which left the finish in no doubt really. This only went 8 minutes, and was essentially just a collection of high spots, and many of the guys didn't do much. I'm a fan of Big Shig, but honestly, he might as well not have been here as his contributions came to one spot. Same with Cassidy to be fair, he was AWOL most of this thing, selling a lowblow from Holliday, but it was still fun stuff. Orange pinned Holliday with the Orange Punch to retain. The RevPro Women's Title was on the line next. This was another good match, but I wasn't a massive fan of the finish, which brought it down slightly for me. Despite seemingly having the match won, Reed inexplicably went to use Dani's title belt, but payed for it as she ate an Elevated German into the ring and a Luna Landing for the champion to retain in 9:44. Alex Windsor Jumped Luna after the match and beat her down and dragged her around with a chain, which one would presume is leading to a dog collar match.
The NJPW Dojo graduates Yuto Nakashima and Oskar Leube took on heel duo Mark Trew and Kieron Lacey in a really good little traditional tag bout next. The heels worked over stocky babyface Yuto, before he made the hot tag to his Germanic Skyscraper of a tag partner, who ran wild and they bumped around like crazy for him. After taking Lacey out with a verion of Total Elimination, Leube caught a Trew crossbody attempt, and deadlifted him onto his shoulders, allowing Nakashima to come off the second rope with a jumping knee, and Oskar hit a massive multiple rotation F-5 for the win at 9:25. They announced a UK Fantasticamania show for May 19th before the next match, which was an excellent slugfest between Luke Jacobs and JJ Gale. This was grand hard-hitting violence, with both guys hitting forearms, kicks and suplexes. After Jacobs caught Gale's leg from a roundkick attempt, he captured his arm too and hit a sickening headbutt. JJ scored a nearfall with a flash small package, then got another super close nearfall with his Gale Force spinning Oscutter as the crowd went crazy. Gale missed a 450, before eating a serious of stiff Lariats from Jacobs, which lead to Luke scoring the win at 17:02 with a Steiner Screwdriver. Great stuff here, and I hope we see more from both guys at the top of the card in 2024. Jacobs vowed to win the Revolution Rumble in the post match.
Mustafa Ali took on Robbie X in a very good flippity spot fest next. This was all-action, with a non-stop stream of flying and springboard moves. The finish came when both guys fought in the top, Ali hit a Sunsetbomb off the top, then a match winning 450 Splash to win at the 13:08 mark. Ali looked super happy to be here, and put on a good showing, so I'm under no doubt that he'll do great in New Japan and the Indys, after years of being in wrestling purgatory. Shingo took on Trent Seven next in a match that was made less than 24 hours before they came through the curtain. Originally Takagi was to take on Gabe Kidd (which I would have been all in on as that sounds awesome), but Kidd suffered an undisclosed injurey in the insane Cage Match he was in in Osaka. If I were a betting man though, I'd say it was likely a concussion from that insanely stiff Henare slap he took near the end, not to mention the crazy chairshots. This was ultimately a very decent match, but at 21:58, it was way too long, and it was another of those matches where too much stuff was kicked out of. There was no need to work this like it was a Tokyo Dome main event; Shingo kicked out of a Pump Handle Emerald Flowsion, Trent kicked out of a sitout Burning Hammer, Takagi kicked out of a middle rope Emerald Flowsion, then a short piledriver, Shingo then escaped a Seven Star Lariat and hit a Last of The Dragon... but after a delayed cover Trent kicked out(!). Seven kicked at one from a Sliding Bomber, but ate a few more Pumping Bombers to finally allow Shingo to win. This would likely have been great if it was around 14 minutes, but it outstayed it's welcome a little and they just kicked out of way too much for no reason.
Next up, Anthony Ogogo defeated RKJ in what was by far the weakest match of the night. This was perfectly fine, nothing was bad, the crowd were respectably hot, and RKJ tried his damndest to have a good match, but this ultimately didn't click. Former Olympic Boxer Ogogo scored the win at 13:30 with two great looking punches. Which were the best looking things he'd done all match. What followed was an excellent technical wrestling match, as Zack Sabre Jr. took on Connor Mills, which was my second favourite of the night. This featured exemplary mat work, as both guys exchanged submission holds, with Mills aggressively working over the left leg, and Zack focussing on the left arm. After both failed to tap the other out, frustrations flared and this broke down into a nasty strike battle, with some seriously stiff slaps back and forth. In the end, after Mills kicked out of a Zack Driver, Sabre Jr. turned up the pace and put the younger wrestler away after a series of PK's at the 21:25 mark. Great, great stuff.
Then the Main Event, which was Will Ospreay's RevPro swan song before going fulltime with AEW, and was one of the best matches you'll ever see. I loved their match at High Stakes 2022, but this one was considerably better than that classic, with off the charts drama, heat, storytelling and big fight feel. This was outstanding. The stipulations were that there were no referee stoppages allowed, but if Amira threw in the towel (like she did in their last match), then Oku would lose the title, and Ospreay threw the bloody towel from the forst match at her to use. The crowd were white hot from the off, and neber cooled down once during this epic battle. There was way too much to reasonably recap here, but everything was great. Oku worked over Will's knee in preperation of the Half Crab, but came up bloody from going into the ringpost. Ospreay worked him over, taunting Amira to throw the towel, but she responded by spitting on him, which Ospreay responded by kicking her into the guardrail to loud boos. Oku went crazy with a fiery comeback that included hitting the old El Generico Tornado DDT through the ropes to the floor, which Ospreay juiced from, then locked on the most dramatic Figure Four since Muto/Takada, but Ospreay made the ropes. Will hot the Oscutter for a nearfall, and Oku hit a reverse rana which spiked Ospreay, but as he celebrated, Ospreay popped up and hit a Hidden Blade to the back of the head for the double down. Oku then turned a Storm Breaker attempt into a package tombstone, but missed a Frog Splash. He landed on his feet though and hit Ospreay with his own Hidden Blade. In a callback to their 2022 match, Oku started hitting numerous Hidden Blades, but pulled Ospreay up at two every pin attempt. He tried another but The Ariel Assassin countered with the real deal Hidden Blade. Ospreay hit the flip out of a clothesline into a powerbomb spot, then transitioned into a Styles Clash for a near fall. Amira is dragged into the ring and she pushes Oku out of the way of a Hidden Blade, taking the move herself, leading to Ospreay pushing her unconscious body out of the ring. Oku rolls through another Hidden Blade into the Half Crab, but as he leans back into the bridge, Ospreay pulls him out of it, flips him over and hits a devastating Tiger Driver 91, another Hidden Blade and finally the Storm Breaker, but Oku kicks out at 2.9999, which blows the roof off the National Sports Centre. Oku then turns a Tombstone attempt into a Sega Mega Driver, in tribute to Mad Kurt, finally hits the Frog Splash to the back, goes back up and hits a second to the front, but Ospreay kicks out at the last minute. As he does, Oku grabbed his leg and turned it into the Half Crab as the fans went crazy. Ospreay fought to the ropes, but a revived Amira flipped him off, Oku pulled him to the centre, bridges back, and Ospreay finally tapped at the 47:12 mark, giving Oku the biggest win of his career. This was all brilliant.
In the post match, Ospreay handed Oku the title, symbolically passing the torch, Oku offered the handshake, which was expected, and Ospreay cut an emotional promo to say goodbye to a scene he's invested so much into. He thanked New Japan and RevPro, as well as the fans, for all they've done for him, and he promised his best stuff was still to come. He then said teary fairwells, before nemsis Zack Sabre Jr. appeared at the curtain to give him a hug and a kiss. All in all, this was an excellent show that's well worth checking.

Moon Girl is just MAGIC
I'll be honest with you, I've never actually read the Moon Girl comics. I think at the point it came out, I just was not into Marvel. Either I was more concerned with the MCU, or with what DC Comics was doing at the moment.
However? I was surprised to find out she had a show coming out this year. Knowing that iconic actor Laurence Fishburne was behind it piqued my interest. After watching the first few episodes, I was hooked.
So today, I'll be reviewing Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur. Welcome to House of Milesverse, and I hope you enjoy reading this. Let's start from the top.
What makes 'Moon Girl' worth it?
youtube
The basics;
Moon Girl is different from your usual superhero formula, but it is also similar. The series stars 13-year-old Lunella Lafayette (Diamond White), who one day conducts an experiment that creates a portal. From that portal comes Devil Dinosaur (Fred Tatasciore), a large dog-like creature who quickly becomes Lunella's best friend. The two of them fight crime in the Lower-east-side of New York as Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur!
The show does not lean one way or another when it comes to silliness or seriousness. There are many episodes that include comedic jokes and antics. However, those episodes are also filled with deep morals and lessons. In a way, it creates a balanced series that does not hinder itself by feeling the need to push in more jokes.
I think this neutrality also works when the episode does do serious topics. The two-parter finale was such a quick change of pace that I loved it. You get the idea that things really might be in danger at this point, and it's filled with so many surprising twists.
Many of the episodes also deal with Lunella's growth as a character. She is fully realized and she comes with her own flaws. We get an episode where she feels like she's wasting too much time. Her method of dealing with this is creating a skip button to wind past moments with her family. She quickly realizes that the skip button is ruining her life, and decides to destroy it.
There are plenty of episodes in the series where Moon Girl learns an important lesson. I think what I like most is that it definitely fits with that age, and you can see her take those lessons in stride.
There's more to Moon Girl
There's more to Moon Girl than just the hero, by the way. She has a cast of other characters helping her either directly or indirectly. In addition, Lunella does not tackle every problem by herself.
Her best friend is Casey Calderon (Libe Barer), a young girl of mixed Jewish and Puerto-Rican ancestry. She's something of a fashionista, but she also tries her best to help. Casey works as Lunella's confidant, and also her manager.
Her other best friend - and just as important as Lunella herself, is Devil Dinosaur. He's a large Tyrannosaurus Rex that eats and smashes everything in his way. In spite of his fearsome look, Devil's actually a cute and well-meaning pet.
You also have Lunella's family, including her caring mother Adria Lafayette (Sasheer Zamata), and her bumbling father, James Lafayette (Jermaine Fowler). You have her wise grandfather 'Pops' (Gary Anthony Williams), who is also the proprietor of the family's skating business. You have her grandmother 'Mimi' (Alfre Woodard), who, spoiler alert, actually was the ORIGINAL Moon Girl. She knows that Lunella's taken the name and become a superhero as well.
You have all these characters who all add so much to Lunella's character. You can really feel the love whenever they interact with her. Of course, one major character is very different from the rest. Heck, he's only had two episodes to show how prominent he is.
You're right, it's time for us to talk about...
The Beyonder (BEYOND all things?)
The Beyonder (Laurence Fishburne) is an omnipotent threat sent to analyze the worth of Humanity. He decides to partner up with Lunella since she's the smartest person on the planet.
You quickly get the feeling that Beyonder is really beyond this world. He's such an alien entity that he's unlike anything Lunella has faced or ever will face. In a way, The Beyonder works as a perfect foil to Lunella because of this.
Beyonder was only active in two episodes, but you feel his presence elsewhere. Throughout the series, he serves as an omnipresent narrator for the audience. He provides us with information on many of Lunella's villains.
When he does finally show up, it's a huge impact on the audience. His first episode focused on him forcing Lunella to work with her friend, Eduardo. Eduardo (voiced by Michael Cimino) is loud, loves music, and is generally annoying. Beyonder ultimately leaves them alone when Lunella proves that she can work with him.
In another episode, The Beyonder forces Lunella to confront her fears. She's forced to go to Coney Island and rescue Mimi, her grandmother. Ultimately with Devil Dinosaur's help, Lunella conquers the test and once more impresses Beyonder.
In the comics, Beyonder is a traditional enemy of the Avengers. However, I think making him a threat to Moon Girl works well. Laurence Fishburne gives him such a flamboyant and charismatic tone that it just works.
Also? He has a good theme song.
The show tackles important lessons in diversity
Let's talk about the fifth episode, Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow. In this episode, Lunella Lafayette becomes self-conscious about taking care of her hair. She tries to create a solution to strengthen her hair, but it falls out. Because of this, her hair becomes a sentient monster named Mane that wants to use the solution to create an army of hair monster
Eventually, Lunella comes clean to her family about her insecurities regarding her hair. Mimi and Adria help her through it, while also telling her that she needs a neutralizer. Both Mimi and Adria help by recounting their experiences with trying to straighten their hair.
This is what culminates in her defeating Mane. It is not done through combat but through friendship. All Mane wanted was to feel loved, and just like Adria said; "To love your hair is to love yourself". It sends an important message about how we should love our hair and take care of it.
Hair in particular can be an important part of your appearance. We oftentimes forget about the things we have because we want something else. Lunella wanted straight hair over her natural curls. By the end of the episode, she began to love her natural hair for what it was. I believe this episode is such a foundational confidence-building idea for young black girls.
The eleventh episode is just as important, and it is called Like Mother, Like Moon Girl. The episode's focus is on themes like gentrification, and using her voice. It's an impressive topic for a kiddy superhero TV series.
The episode focuses on Lunella being made community captain by one of the council presidents, Pena. Pena also hires two inventors, a husband-and-wife duo known as the Muzzlers. Although they appear nice, the Muzzlers seek to improve the Lower East Side by any means. This involves them trying to change the LES, at the vehement objections of the community.
The Muzzlers use their talents to erase the community's culture and soul. They replace it with a dull, technological city without its voice. At first, Moon Girl is rejected by the community who blame her for erasing the LES' identity.
However, after a conversation with her mother, Adria, she finds strength. She and the community rally together to stop the Muzzlers and their noise-canceling devices. They win and manage to defeat the Muzzlers.
Both of these episodes talk about serious topics, especially relating to black people. I believe that these two best represents the series' style and personality. These episodes really showcase the best in Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur.
Moon Girl's soundtrack is awesome
Beyond the series' storytelling and characters is its soundtrack. The songs match the fast-paced action scenes that they are supposed to represent. They are also just very fun to listen to as well.
Heck, the fight scenes in general are also a spectacle to look at. We really see Moon Girl put her tools to use. Her jetpack, her skates, and her wings are all excellent additions.
youtube
This battle right here is one of my favorites to use. Although, it does not involve Lunella fighting back until later. The main point of the battle was to make 'Gravitas' run out of energy and leave him open. It really sells Lunella's strategical mindset, set to Childish Gambino's Sweatpants.
In combat, Devil Dinosaur can be seen as a hindrance, but that's not the truth. Although he is always cumbersome, he can be pretty useful. Lunella and Devil work well together, and their cooperation is often what results in their enemy's defeat.
Lastly, there's the main theme, 'Moon Girl Magic' performed by Diamond White. It is a flashy pop tune that just fills you with confidence. I think it's one of the best-animated openings of recent.
Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur is a masterpiece
Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur is a show that is very unafraid to be what it is. It's a Marvel series based off of a lesser-known Marvel character. It has a beautifully animated New York, a diverse cast, and well-meaning morals.
I love how upbeat and aspirational the series can be. What I also enjoy is how the creator, Laurence Fishburne, made it because of his love for comics. I think it's wonderful seeing how comics have impacted places and people. I wish there was more of that representation in the world.
I recommend that just like Devil Dinosaur you take a bite at the series. So far it might be one of the better animated series of the 2020s. The good news is that it is only going to get better from here.
Thank you for reading this review of the series, I hope you enjoyed it. My next series? We could say that it is going to be transformational for you, me, and the new fans out there.
That's right, we're taking it to the Terrans on this one. I will do my review of the recently-finished Transformers Earthspark series. As the Transformers maniac that I am, I know it's going to get crazy.

Fanfic Review: Anthophilia
Anthony J. Crowley's life seems like it's finally falling into place: his floral shop has begun to gain an undercurrent of appreciation in the design elite of London, and he might have even finally found a boyfriend who looks just right lounging on his Tenreiro sofa. Things seem almost perfect, until one day the empty shop across the street is leased to frumpy fellow Oxford alumni, who doesn't seem to remember Crowley nearly as well as he remembers him, which really shouldn't bother him as much as it does - it was ten years ago after all, and it wasn't even that good of a kiss.
Length: 49,446 words
AO3 Rating: Mature / Spice Level 🔥🔥
Best for: Mostly Safe in Public, Pick-me-up, Human AU
Triggers: None
Read it here, fic by FortinbrasFTW
*Minor Spoilers* We are in Crowley's flower shop when he gets a blast from the past, the man he spent a night making out with at uni has just leased the bookshop across the street. The problem is Aziraphale doesn't seem to remember him. I love the way this unfolds. It's not necessarily a slow burn, but throughout their meetings they slowly and gently fall for each other.
Crowley in this story is seeing someone. Handsome and wealthy, Lucius is the opposite of Aziraphale. And things are new enough that Crowley genuinely likes some parts of dating him. It's common in fics to see Crowley's partners as abusive, and I love that this doesn't do that. Lucius is an ass. Arrogant, shallow, and uncompassionate. But he isn't abusive, he's just not the right partner for Crowley. Anathema is also a welcome character here. I like when she pops up as a nuisance kind of best friend. I feel like that has become fanon to have her as a nosey neighbor/bff and I love it every time. A minor detail about Aziraphale that I love, the author doesn't go for his usual fashion choices. Oh it's outdated, it's very outdated, and unfashionable. But it's the fashion from his human lifetime. It's 80's and 90's rather than his typical velveteen waistcoat. A small change that I don't see many human aus make and I really appreciated that detail!
It just so nice watching our pair become reacquainted, how easy it is for them to fall into each other's orbit. No more thoughts on the plot, let that play out for you. Safe ish in public, there are some references to sex early on but nothing graphic. The only longer scene is at the end. It's a nice balanced read, not exactly fluffy but not angsty either.

Seven Days in Purgatory [Review]
Today I'm reviewing the dashington WIP "Seven days in Purgatory" by the author named I* also know in the COG forums as "Sel_Lee".
This piece is presented as a kind of psychological thriller, where the protagonist is an amnesiac person, now trapped in an adorable little house with their supposed partner.
I must admit that as a premise, it's certainly original and interesting, and I'm looking forward to see where it all goes.
CHAPTER 1
So the MC wakes up in what seems to be a bedroom, with the big difference that they are surrounded by medical equipment.
Not creeepy at all.
So what we get to know (Which is not told to us by the narrator but by the only other person we can interact with) is that we had some car accident, and this is why we been recovering at home. In Finland. Because that's totally what people do when their signifcant other falls into a coma. Nothing suspicious here.
So we get to choose our name as players, or we can have our totally-not-sus partner to remind us of it.
I'm squinting at you Anthony.
At that moment is obvious that our memory is clearly muddled. Some of the things that we seem to "remember" add ups to what our partner has been saying, but once again the memories are too confused and muddled.
I'm totally getting this vibe of fake security, for the whole ambiance the narrative puts us in. And the back that the MC seem to look rather unhealthy is clearly putting me off. I think I get the eerie vibes not only from the partner, but for the MC themselves.
There's some weird dissonance in there.
We go to sleep, and we have a psychedelic dream that takes us to the next chapter.
CHAPTER 2
Well we wake up in the most violent way possible, but darling is there to make sure we okay.
At that moment, the MC is clearly having some weird mental deluded state. I love the smell of past trauma in the morning, what can I say.
That the two characters were in a deep relationship and it's not lie, its quite obvious. Now the question is, if it was a healthy one.
MC has a memory place. Now given what happened, that's a big red flag to me. Like maybe I'm getting paranoid, but I'm getting the unreliable narrator vibes here.
Not to say this dude mind palace is complete mess and all over the place. I call on the guy being a complete psycho. I call it already.
This could be one of those "Who is trapped with who?" situation quite quickly. But I digress.
Okay so this time we are getting actual memories. That we have to believe are real. It's good to know that the MC wasn't exactly the most social person in there. But honestly I would feel the same with having to work with assholes.
There's this sudden quotes in the middle of the narrative, that are totally putting me off, but I mean it as a good thing. It almost feels like a someone reading a play out loud.
Freud's bullshit jokes are always appreciated.
Okay now we are going deep. Seems that the MC was quite the philosophical special potato. This still creeps me out.
I'm calling a tomato in the mirror. I'm calling it.
Hubbie didn't like to talk about other people it seems.
Now it's Queen time sprinkled with a bit of identity crisis.
You gonna call me genre savvy here, but those two are too cultured in such a modern setting. I read enough stuff, to say this smells fishy.
Okaaaaaaay, big reveal. Hubbie says he works for the FBI.
So you telling me, we have a prison nurse and a FBI analyst, living together in some isolated Finland cabin. And that's totallly normal.
Why is a federal agent out of the country? This is putting me off big time.
Well one thing is for sure. FBI hubbie is a horny animal.
And after a bit of Vivaldi we go back to the memory palace, to see what fucked stuff we are finding this time.
There's nothing like a room full of bodies and some dramatic castle at the top of the sea.
Psychotic bird killing. It's a good way to end the chapter.
CHAPTER 3
And we start with a Fairytale, as a way to emulate the obvious daddy issues along with some old daddy homophobia. So now we get even more trauma, it seems.
Now we get to explore more onto this whole social paradigma on the MC, trough the years of parental abuse.
So after a creppy tour around the nightmare cabin and some digging, we get listen to the enormous bird of wisdom.
Then I'm presented with some deep questions, and ofc I gotta choose what kind of kinks is the MC in. I'm a woman of a culture after all.
WELL IT'S GOOD TO KNOW THE MC IS SOME KINKY MOTHERFUCKER.
Thank you bird of wisdom.
To this point it's rather obvious to me, that those two end together, bonding over the past family trauma.
Anthony is being hella nice, but with the whole setting it's givng me some deep dissonance vibe. Almost as if the man is trying to hide something from the MC. Or maybe just being wary? Who knows.
Night never comes huh. So they are truly up there.
Now we have this little romantic picnic.
And now for the next dish, a bit of bloody food. I love how the MC can be rather child with it.
That was the creepiest exchanging of vows ever. Is this going to be some sort of psycho duo of love?
And with this totally normal interaction, we finish the chapter.
FINAL TOUGHTS
Well I wasn't expecting for this review to be this long, but it happened.
Now, it's obvious this IFs is not for everybody. But the author already warned about some degree of lack of player agency (unlike other) so one cannot truly complain.
Now as per my personal opinion. I been thinking deeply about what to say. This is quite something. This IF, this story, it's special. I'm not saying is the best thing ever or anything, but it has this vibe, this aura, that makes it shine between all the other works.
What is obvious to me, is that this is no amateur author. The way the narrative is flowing, how a lot of elements are described, there's a consistency there, almost like a rythm.
I have to admit I became fascinated by the story that it's been playing in front of my eyes. If the author is doing something that I consider is vital, is that they are trasmiting the feelings and the vibes of what it happening quite properly.
I will say it, it's been a while since I read an IF with this deep level of emotional inmersion, and I'm satisfied by it. I enjoyed the whole reading process, since the start to the end. It's a truly curated play, and I have doubts about it.
The setting is confusing, it's murky, and that's a great feeling when the story is about an amnesiac MC. You know there's something in there, almost like as I said before, we are not getting the whole perspective on it. This reminds me of an expresion that I read on a Japanese VN "You cannot truly hurt the moon, because you are unable to see it's truth form. So you will end stabbing the moon's reflection against the lake instead."
So we lack about of information, but the author manages to pull it properly, and it doesn't become a bother. On the contrary, it's like a puzzle slowly being completed, and you just want more and more pieces.
I like how the narrative goes into themes, and into situations that a lot of authors are afraid to go in. And I love to be able to look and analyze the psyche of the two actors in this play.
So I hope I can read more of this in a future, since this is a truly well done piece.
