the mythology of the parse update in year 4 haunts me to this day man. how this is not by any means closure, but kent still wants some semblance of it in his life. how the real threshold is to have a conversation with jack but he's tried in the past and has always ended in catastrophe - and so jack's college boyfriend will have to do. how talking to bitty allows kent enough distance to still treat jack as a friend and atone for some of his mistakes, which is something he might still be unable to do in front of jack himself. how this is the first step, and by no means the last (!!!)

Maybe moving to Las Vegas right after his breakup with Jack wasn’t the best move for Bitty, but here he is: lonely and sad, and not really sure what to do with his life. Luckily, there is someone who knows everything there is to know about being heartbroken, lonely and sad in Vegas.

au in which bitty (through a series of fortunate and unfortunate events) is the president of the frat that lives next door to the haus and he gets so sick of how unkempt the haus' lawn is, that he takes his lawnmower and in the dead of night mows the words "mow your fucking grass" into the lawn. jack, the hockey team's chosen and unwilling representative, goes over to try and mediate with bitty ("we don't have a lawnmower, so, uh, we just can't cut the grass"), but the only result is that the pie that bitty serves him whilst they're having this argument discussion has the words "buy a fucking lawnmower then" cut into the crust.

jack is blown away by a) how cute this frat president is and b) the sheer dedication and decides to do something similar in return (but only after buying a lawnmower and actually cutting the haus' grass). he figures out when bitty's figure skating practice is and goes out immediately after the zamboni to skate the words "we bought the fucking mower" into the ice.

later that afternoon bitty comes over to the haus with a pie, albeit with no message baked into it this time, and apologies for the passive-aggressiveness. and jack, being the occasionally smooth fucker he is, says "well, you could make up for it with a date"

#IM LOOKING AT THIS SO INTENSELY#FAVE#THESE ARE LIKE. MY TWO FAVORITE THINGS EVER#thinking about. okay so jack TRIES to go back into piloting again. he really tries. and that’s where he meets bitty#but he’s got some serious ptsd from last time so he goes into the other side of things instead#and it was cute to flirt with bitty when they were coworkers but he has some serious reservations about doing that when he’s now bittys BOSS#so like. shenanigans ensue obviously#and then with kent. omg#i cannot even put into words how i feel about kent and tater getting paired up and HATING each other#and they dislike each other so much that they have like. an intense bond for the perfect drift#and kent is like. he hasn’t drifted with anyone so well since jack#so he’s kinda freaked out and kinda disappointed that tater clearly hates him#but tater can tell after drifting with him that he’s not actually a terrible person#and it’s just defense mechanisms and stuff#oh my god this is so. in my brain#SORRY FOR THIS OP AHDBFHFH

@renchanters​ NO NO YOU GET ME YOU ABSOLUTELY GET ME. i didn’t think too much about Jack and Bitty but you are absolutely right, Jack has a thousand hangups about his PTSD and how this might be a waste of his potential with people wondering why hes still not piloting while Bitty is on the other side of the room like oh lord help me this man is hot

bonus if he!! still does not know who the hell Jack Zimmermann is!! nor Bad Bob!! because he’s a LOCCENT controller but honestly he can remember Jaeger names better than humans!! so it doesn’t Click for him about Jack’s identity until he stays up one night and sees Jack alone in the hangar, sitting silently by the sides of a decommissioned Jaeger from two years ago. All that remains of the Jaeger him and Kent piloted, because they deemed it unsalvageable and he had to pull what strings him and his father had to get it shipped over here... because for all that he hates Kent now and everything is awkward and he doesn’t want to see him, their Jaeger deserves better than to rot at the bottom of the ocean or in a dusty engineer’s storage area. 

(Also I think Jack’s first attempts at repiloting are with Shitty, because they deserve to bond at least a couple times. They end up being unable to maintain the connection, but it’s okay since Jack gets promoted to Marshall and Shitty is now the half-drunk Kwoon Room instructor in charge of training the new “frog” Ranger recruits and hazing them.) 

On the other hand I think Kent and Tater’s drifting is definitely choppy at first but Tater is able to hang on to the connection by a combination of sheer force of will and stubbornness, since Kent’s subconsciousness is domineering and controlling and seems like it wants to kick out any and all minds that is not Jack Zimmermann, holy Shit. 

But Kent is basically waiting for the ball to drop on Tater realising he’s a horrible person. He blames himself for the connection severing in the middle of the battle, because him and Jack were arguing up to that point - sure, he’s mad that Jack took off and just ghosted him for two years without even a hint at whether he’s dead or alive, but he blames himself for the events leading up to the incident and the disastrous fight itself. It’s his hurtful words to Jack that led to Jack near-forcibly snapping the connection. It was his failure to react as the one still in the drift that led to the Kaiju tearing their Conn-pod nearly in half and further destabilising their Jaeger. He’s the one that put an end to the Parse-Zimms unbeatable combo, and he wants to fix it. Except Jack won’t let him, and he’s now in a Shatterdome full of people who are undoubtedly on Jack’s side and have heard terrible things about him. And the moment Tater opens his mouth about all that, it’ll be over for him. 

Meanwhile after the first few times Tater drifts with Kent, he realises that both Kent and Jack have apologies that need to be told each other. The incident - which he’s only heard about in passing from Snowy - has more layers to it than he previously thought. But from what little glimpses he’s managed to see of Kent’s mind, Kent is not a bad guy. Sure, he’s stubborn and small and incredibly fast and uses dirty tricks when sparring in the Kwoon Room, but... he’s not a bad guy. He’s terribly overprotective and sentimental and human in all the ways that matter. 

So there’s no harm giving co-piloting a try, is there?

i am still in omgcp brainrot and this fandom has too little aus.

WHERE IS MY PACIFIC RIM CONTENT. Kent and Jack as the rising stars, two drift-compatible pilots who are partnered together, famous for reaching the previously thought impossible drift sync rate of 100%. Slaying kaiju together under the command of Jack’s father and mother, Marshall Bad Bob Zimmermann and Commander Alicia Zimmermann, until the stress of being the world’s best Jaeger piloters and defense agains the kaiju gets to Jack. They desync in the midst of a battle against the first-ever Cat 4 Kaiju, with the stress and arguments leading up to it unbeknownst to everyone, Jack comatose in the cockpit while Kent has to take on the strain of piloting the Jaeger alone and slay the kaiju. And afterwards, while Kent is recuperating from the mental strain of piloting a Jaeger alone - another first - and being hailed as the world’s golden ray of hope, Jack…. disappears.

Two years later Kent hunts down Jack, only to find that Jack’s now the Marshall of his own little Shatterdome out in Providence after ghosting him for two whole years, with the only evidence of him being alive a few prods and sensations from a rapidly-fading Ghost Drift. And when Kent requests a transfer to Providence, he quickly realises a few things -

- one, that Jack is in no way fit to pilot ever again, thanks to the mental and physical damage he suffered in the battle,

- two, he refuses to see Kent even though his transfer has been approved,

- and three, that Jack has moved on and is in love with one of the LOCCENT mission controllers, a guy named Eric “Bitty” Bittle.

(Bittle bakes REALLY good pies. Kent can’t even hate him for that.)

Worst of all, his empty partner spot is going to be reassigned, because even though he’s been defending himself against the recruits in the Kwoon Room with all his might, one of the Ranger pairs in Providence is being dissolved. Snowy is retiring with full honors after wanting to focus on raising his niece, her mother killed in a recent Kaiju attack, which leaves Kent free to be assigned to Snowy’s old partner - Alexei ‘Tater’ Mashkov.

And judging from the way the Russian Ranger slammed him into the mats in the training room, picked him up and called him a “little rat”, Mashkov doesn’t like him, either…

i just have a lot of thoughts about omgcp in the pacrim universe.

Tourniquet

Jack said he was okay but Kent knew he wasn’t.

He watched him and saw when he zoned out, saw when he panicked, saw when he couldn’t breathe.

The draft was only a couple of months away and Kent was sure that was what caused Jack to freak out. But whenever he tried to talk about it, Jack shut him down.

So Kent decided to love him silently and hold him together even though Jack denied he needed it.

When Jack spaced out at a party, Kent distracted him with a bathroom makeout session.

When Jack got that panicked look in conversation, Kent changed the topic to something safer.

When Jack couldn’t breathe, Kent got his anxiety medication.

It worked — until it didn’t.

Until Jack slipped away and took too many.

Until Jack was on the floor and he wasn’t breathing at  all and Kent had to call an ambulance and they wouldn’t even let him in.

And then Jack wouldn’t let him in.

Kent didn’t blame him, though. He had promised — if only to himself — to keep Jack together and he had failed.

Kent let go.
