i'm really proud of how the feathers turned out, so much so that under the break, i've attached a photo i took when i had just finished the colouring of his feathers :3

It's been a while since I've posted something original that isn't just a shitpost, so today I'm offering you my hybrid headcannon masterlist of hermits/life series folks and why I think they are the way that they are along with some bonus headcannons.

BDubs: This man is a glare hybrid. I'm sorry, I don't make the rules, he wrote it himself with the moss cloak and the sleeping thing as well as the eyes. xD An added headcannon here is that glare hybrids are kind of like selkies in that they can choose to put on their cloaks fully to look like glares.

BigB: BigB is a creaking hybrid. I know, I know, wild life, duh, but here's the thing. I think that BigB has always been a creaking hybrid with his sort of unassuming/invisible/menacing vibe, but because the code for the pale garden and of course the creaking didn't exist prior to wild life, that part of his code didn't 'wake up'. Because of that I think that wild life was particularly difficult for him and he was really fighting himself with wanting to stay with a group because his hybrid traits were coming in late and it hurt but also the Creakings are solitary and because of that his creaking code wanted him to stay away as much as he could.

Etho: Honestly, Etho is a hard one for me, because I read a really good life series fic where he was an Enderian.... (Still the Echoes Give Us Light) but also arctic fox Etho gives me life so... really it's dealer's choice here. Ender!Etho is easier to come up with headcannons for though so.. yeah. Etho is an albino enderian, and most Enderians cover their faces in the overworld because their fangs protrude out really clearly and it's kind of scary.

Gem: Geminitay, my beloved... Gem is a reindeer centaur. I adore art that makes her a centaur of any kind but because I need my gem to have horns and female deer don't have horns, she's a reindeer. Plus, you know, Canada. I think that Gem has to fight her instincts a lot around wolf!Pearl because deer brain wants her to be scared of the wolf girl so she just plays it up to be silly.

Scar: Mr GoodTimes! Vex hybrid. Once again this results from Echoes but I don't know what to tell you guys, Trekkie writes REALLY good fic. I think that Scar physically cannot control his charmspeak and it's resulted in some very very VERY awkward situations for him.

Grian: Parrot hybrid, obvious I know, but this has FLAVOR because he's a watcher. Not original I know but look there's just too much good art and fic out there for him to not be both of those things. Headcannon, I think the Watchers actually kicked Grian out rather than him running away. Legitimately he was just too chaotic for them.

Impulse: He's an imp. Why an imp and not a demon you ask (besides the name thing obviously?) Well, Imps are troublemakers, not serious threats. Demons and Fae folk can cause massive problems with their powers, whereas imps are lesser demons that are just a little silly which I think is really fun.

Martyn: This is obscure but I think Martyn is a fae. I also think I'm literally the only one that thinks this but prove me wrong lol. I think that Martyn is Like That about his teammates because of deals that he makes with them, and when they break them, he really goes for it. The deal he made with Ren extended over games and that's why he killed Scott and Impulse in LimLife. I think he's a summer fae specifically, with the summer storm temper.

Lizzie: Lizzie is also fae, but she's a spring fae. She could also be a pixie but I feel like that's a bit nitpicky lol. I think that Lizzie leaves a trail of flowers wherever she walks so it's incredibly easy to find her and that's why she's so quick to die. But also any series that she's in flowers flowers grow over the corpse of anyone's final death.

Mumbo: Vampire. I might have also said that Scar is a vampire for the lols, but Mumbo is definitely going to be a vampire because of the thing with his grey streak. He's Dracula! Also there's a cosplayer (@marshallmellow on tiktok) that does a really good Vampire Mumbo cosplay and dude. Headcannon for him isn't life series related but I think that the hermits had to have an intervention for him after season 8 because he wasn't feeding himself properly.

Pearl: Another dealer's choice. I love me some moth hybrid pearl art, I think it's fun, but I also love the idea of werewolf pearl just a little too much to be normal. Also, I think that wolf!Pearl talks to her dogs and can understand her dogs and everyone just thinks she's making it up but she isn't.

Ren: Werewolf! again! I think that Pearl and Ren play fight a lot in wolf form just for funsies and it sounds really scary with snapping teeth and whatnot but it isn't at all scary. They're best buds.

Skizzleman: Skizz is too much of an angel to not be an angel. This also leads to a fun Imp and Skizz dynamic of angel vs demon that they play up for laughs sometimes. Skizz also has a like... biblically accurate angel form but Impulse is literally the only one who has seen it or knows about it and he's always trying to get Skizz to show the others.

Scott: Winter fae. This comes from Empires 1, and I just never let it go. It fits too well for him to not alright? I'm kind of sad we don't have anyone to complete the seasonal fae though :( Scotts hands are literally always cold and the only one who never noticed was Cleo.

Joel: I'm a lover of Tanuki Joel, actually. I see him with the shrek horns a lot which is a fun nod to his old skin but Melloz Heist's animatics of Tanuki Joel gave me so much joy. I think that Tanuki Joel uses his tail as a stuffed animal.

Jimmy: Canary hybrid. Done. Easy. I think that sometimes when Jimmy shouts it turns into a chirp and Grian (lovingly) makes fun of him for it.

Tango: I think that Tango is a Phoenix hybrid. I also think that when he gets upset sometimes he lights stuff on fire but because he's a phoenix out of the ashes of whatever he set on fire appears a copy of the previous item.

Cleo: Zombie hybrid. Once again, easy. I think that she is a chronic insomniac because zombie brain always wants to be up at night.

I love avian grian !!! I think being an avian fits him extremely well (though I stand firm on the belief that if grian didn’t bird code himself so hard the fandom would’ve made him a cat hybrid—no I’m not biased look away from my blog title)

parrot grian is a classic and my favorite but I really love the idea of him changing his wings for every hermitcraft season/life game. I saw the idea of grian being based on like. I think it’s a lovebird????? for double life and I haven’t been the same since /silly bird meanings and assigning them to grian based on the season or series ehehehe it’s so good

Uhhh still don't have much on Fragile Life. But I thought I'd detail the tamagotchi pets each member has.

Scott: seal. It was hard to pick for Scott admittedly so I went with seal because some of my fav fanarts of him is Limited Life selkie styled Scott.

Gem: deer. She really is just deer coded.

Pearl: wolf. Tilly beloved.

Grian: parrot. He is the pesky bird.

Tango: moth. Most fanarts I see have him like a moth if they go for a more animal theme.

Martyn: dog. A nod to the big dogs. I would have maybe gave him a cat, but that's Scar's so no overlap.

Jimmy: canary. Canary in a coal mine, may I say more?

Scar: cat. Scar's was very easy as around the time I came up with this au was also around the time we lost Jellie. So I wanted her to always be part of him, and so, she's his virtual pet in this au.

Lizzie: axolotl. Based on her Empires Season 1 theme.

Joel: frog. Swamp :) it was either that or snail, couldn't find many animals for him.

Cleo: snake. I can't resist snake hair.

Etho: coyote. Wolf was already taken by Pearl, and being a Canadian myself when I was younger I used to confuse coyotes and wolves. So I thought it'd be silly lil "canadian wolf" moment.

Impulse: winner of the poll for his pet was pig as a nod to piglin brutes.

I absolutely love the life series,,, The desert duo were my first POV for the first 3 life seasons (Martyn was mine for Limited Life <3 )

I drew my interpretation of the two of them. Of course, Grian had to be a lil parrot guy. Of course, Grian suspiciously cant fly for some reason... perhaps the watchers dont very much want him to have that advantage.)

Just finished watching 3rd Life!!!! I was a bit busy so I couldn't do it as quickly as I wanted to but I made it.

I watched Grian's pov as you suggested and holy fuck was that a ride. I have Thoughts.

Grian and Scar. Scar and Grian. Those two shared a braincell and Grian had it for most of the series.

Grian I think had the most kills out of anyone by the end of it??? Guy really thought he could use Scar as an excuse to satiate his bloodlust without losing any lives. He was 100% correct.

Scar had a lot of kills too, didn't he? Especially in the Dogwarts war. Even if he is the goofy boss to Grian's competent right-hand man, it was nice to see him get down to business as well.

I'm focusing a lot on Scar and Grian here, but I would also like to give a shoutout to Jimmy for being the first person out. From what I hear it's pretty on-brand for him and it makes me think Scott was his Grian. For a second I thought it was Cleo tho.

The Battle of the Red Desert was painful to watch lmfao.... Scar pulled the lever, Grian. Wrong time tho.

Can't be good at building without being good at demolition. Grian really likes TNT, doesn't he. Just pray he never improves at redstone, I think it's best his traps stay broken.

I learned from a comment section that Impulse was killed for a clock that belonged to him in the first place. Rough going, buddy.

Scar's second death had me wheezing.... that's how you know he had some sort of plot armor on, no matter what Grian might say, cuz no way in hell did that guy become the first red name and stay alive for 2nd place.

That was the most Canadian fistfight I ever did see. Scar's muscles did not help.

Grian I see is associated with a bird sometimes? I don't know the reason for that but I find it interesting considering he killed himself by jumping off a cliff.

All in all....... yeah I really liked it!!! I have only watched Grian's pov tho, so if you recommend checking out any other POVs, I could do so. Not sure if I'll be able to watch any of the other Life seasons soon, as I might start dipping into, y'know, Hermitcraft/Empires (thanks to you, really!), but we'll see.

desert duo my beloved. absolutely they are two halves of a whole idiot. grian is the designated braincell holder.

grian kills and maims and we love him for it. i love his maniacal laugh whenever he gets a good kill. like a cartoon villain.

scar is goofy and silly and also bloodthirsty. he's so much fun. he can go from himbo to terrifying red life so fast.

yup, very on brand. poor jimmy. scott is kind of his grian? he's definitely the green to his red, and smart to his stupid, but their vibes are pretty different from grian and scar. they're husbands rather than boss and right hand.

i cannot physically express how disappointed i was when the explosion didn't kill anyone.

the real best duo, grian and tnt.

impulse's death... oh i feel so bad for him. you could hear him starting to say bdubs' name as he died. i had to stare at the wall for like five minutes after that scene.

the only reason scar lasted so long was because of grian. if they hadn't teamed up, he would have died much quicker lmao.

oh the fist fight. oh the cactus ring. oh god.

grian is usually depicted as a parrot hybrid. i'm not sure why, i think it started as a hermitcraft fandom thing that bled into his other stuff. people often fannonized as birds falling to death is one of my favorite things. i can't get enough of it.

if you want to watch more povs, i would recommend martyn or scott. martyn's is good if you want to understand the dogwarts side of things, and scott's is just one of my favorites.

i haven't watched any hermitcraft myself, but i plan to one of these days. empires is one of my favorite smps, and really what got me back into mcyt. if you ever do get around to watching the other life series, i think you'd enjoy them!

i'm also very excited for the guidebook! i haven't read the excerpt though.

Because of you, I'm thinking of getting back into MCYT's. Grian and lizzie, my beloveds, how I missed you. But because of all the fanart I have to ask, why is grian a bird now?

I'm not entirely sure but back in season 7 he had a pet parrot he called a pesky bird because it imitated monsters and then people started associating him with parrots and it kinda just became his shtick :D I think someone else can explain it better because I don't really watch it

Grian knows of the stories about beautiful mermaids, about sirens luring sailers and bakers and clergymen to their death.

There's the story of one mermaid -he doesn't remember their name- who was hated for... not killing people?

An undead gorgon-mermaid (which, frankly, he thinks is awesome) who. Did nothing.

Nothing bad, anyways. Apparently, she always sculpted. Would draw in the sand with stick and on sides of ships and ocean-adjacent buildings with squid ink.

But for some unknown reason, she was hated extra by everyone.

"I just know she took him," a widow tells Grian while he delivers fish to her "she took my husband!" "Even though the actual mermaid who took your beloved is well known!" Is what he wants to say.

He doesn't.

It had truly been an accident, honest! He'd just wanted find where is fishing line was stuck, so he could head home for the night.

That had been his plan, wading through the shallow waters searching for it.

What was not apart of that plan, however, was for a very large, unseen hand to wrap around his ankle and pull him down into the much deeper, deadlier water.

The hand is way too strong to be human, and there's no struggle from whatever is pulling for it to be an air-only creature.

He's brought into a little underwater cave, with surprisingly thriving greenery, and an absurd amount of treasure and art.

He doesn't expect for his almost-killer to be the gorgon mermaid.

"Hello, Darling," the gorgeous- (no, she tried to kill you, bad Grian!) Giant of a woman coos. "What's your name?"

"Grian," he stammers out, choking on his spit because this woman is stunn- no, bad.

"Grian," she parrots like she's trying the name on her tongue, seeing if she likes it "that's a lovely name, fitting for such a lovely man. Sweet little star."

He hadn't seen it before -being certain you were about to die takes away some ability to think clearly, it would seem- but the zombie isn't wearing anything.

At. All.

Normally, he doesn't mind. People, mermaids included, should be allowed to dress how they want in the privacy of their own home.

But, y'know, he's never seen someone so pretty and oh void he's staring.

For using her tail to swim and doing low-effort work compared to other people, the gorgon is beefy.

She looks like she could crush him.

"Why-" he coughs, because there's still water in his nose and mouth and lungs "why didn't you kill me?"

"Silly," she curls her huge mermaid-half around him. He realizes that it resembles that of a snake, as opposed to a fish. It bends and twitches like a snake, at least, "i never planned on killing you." She finishes wrapping around him, resting her heav- no, bad, stop don't think about it, stop- on up of his head. Arms slinking around his chest.

"Then why did you bring me down here, surely killing me would be a sign of killing-talent, killing one of the most feared pirates."

"Well," she starts, "you see, i like you."

"What?"

She giggles (giggles!) a low 'humans are so silly' as she continues talking.

"I like you, i've seen the way you want to defend me, how kind you to the ocean, and, well, i just think you outright gorgeous," she cradles his head in a hand that is so big her fingers overlap each other. "And i think we both benefit from this."

"From what?"

"You leave, leave this town and these people who i know you don't like. You set sail for whatever place you wish, you get my art and treasure to do with what you want, and in return, i get to come with you!"

That's not an awful idea, all things considered.

He has been wanting to go somewhere else for a long time now, to leave this little town full of rude people and unforgiving policies.

"What do you get out of this? I've done too many deals to know that forming a deal without all the rules in place is a bad idea."

"I get to come with on whatever adventures you go on," she has this... look in her pret- no!- eyes that makes Grian's wet shirt feel like it's clinging tighter to his skin.

"And i get you as well. However i want."

"Uh," he says, oh-so elegant "i'm a person. That's called trafficking."

"Oh, dear," she coos, pushing his head up with a large thumb to look into her -fine, he admits it!- gorgeous eyes. "Don't feign ignorance now. Not when we both know what i mean."

It could work, he gets to pick where they go...

He could build a place for them to hold each other, a little place for them to dock.

He could figure out what food she likes, her favorite colors, her favorite sounds.

He could listen to her stories, just like how he hopes she listens to his.

"Deal." They shake hands.

That was 7 years ago.

For 7 years, he's been with her, in all manners.

He got to build a place for them to hold each other, a little place for them to dock.

He got to figure out what food she likes, her favorite colors, her favorite sounds.

He gets to listen to her stories, just like how she listens to his.

She swims up the side of hi- their ship, gorgeous green and blue tail behind her.

"Bedtime, darling."

"Hang on," he grunts, "trying to get these ready for tomorrow."

"That can happen later, Baby," she reaches up and snags his ankle, a familiar routine at this point, and pulls him down.

He doesn't fight it- he knows she'll win, and he's too weak a man emotionally to say no to her.

She gave hims gills somehow, on the side of his neck-

"It's something we can do to our non-sea-fairing mates," she told him "neat isn it?"

-So he can breathe under underwater with her.

She brings them into the little nook he built, the little sea-nest he made, he filled it with scraps of seaweed and pretty rocks, she filled it with treasure and artifacts and memories.

His wife wraps around him, snake-like tail fitting around him snuggly as she surrounds him.

"You know, love," she rests the hand with the wedding ring on his chest, he picks it up and kisses it "i think we should renew our deal tonight."

"Yeah?" He hums, "remind me what our deal was again?"

"I'd get to go with, on your time on the sea." She pauses, kisses his lips gently "and i'd." A kiss, "get." Another kiss, "you." A third kiss, "however i want."

His wife never fails to stun him with her beauty and way with words and actions.

"I don't have any 'no's to that" he stares at the love of his life with a look he hopes can confess his love for her, "just be gentle?"

Cleo laughs at that, with sharp teeth and clawed, too-large hands and bright eyes promising a limp tomorrow.

"Not a chance." She flips him onto his back.

TL;DR: Grian gets kidnapped and gets an undead-sea-serpent-mermaid-gorgon dommy mommy who makes sure he sleeps on time :)

Sometimes, they reminisce about their first meeting and laugh together as Grian brushes through Cleo's hair. It seems like so long ago, when Grian thought Cleo was simply terrifying ("And hot." "And hot.") Now, he knows all sides of her. He's proud Cleo trusts him enough to be vulnerable sometimes - that they can both trust each other completely. He couldn't imagine his life going any other way.

Second part of: Even a Watcher is Being Watched

The cold wind of the night hit softley on the dirty blond face, it was hard to see whatever was besides his "home" or at least the place he called that even if is the least of what he see's the place as.

He was tired of lossing people, yet continued to live, ever sense the fact that he can't be seen on a pathetic light, no he just can't. The black-eyed blonde was a watcher or atleast has a thread of their power and some desires of those gods, so he has to be strong.

Just that, a strong guy who jokes around the place of death of his beloved friends and just search more friends companions, you know. He is the guy who laughs the second he sees that one of his traps worked taking at least two lives, a mad man, someone who you are supposed to be scared.

Not a man who sobs silently while trying to sleep or while watching the eternal night above his head, no he is not that sentimental. No,he just makes graves to seem nice enough

But the funerals he attends to makes no difrence to him, just like seeing how his almost-brother dies once again first, and as you may guess it, because of a request of his. Seeing how the canary has fallen alongside with the minecart the blond was supposed to use, or observing how said canary, on a panic, is searching something to save himself trying to not budge to his curse once again, but all to yet end up on the same situation as always, chained to look those who still live and exist within that plane of life. Absolutely nothing to the "Parrot" hybrid after all, he should is used to it now

That's just not how he is, he never remembers the details of any death, how could he anyway?, is not like those memories hunt him forever, not letting him sleep,Eat,Work,Exist, Live in peace..No that's not who Grian is, no it never has affect him like that, not even the death of, his, the First Bad Boy Joel.

Just noticing that the brunette has fallen on the same place the Omen of death did once, how even if he screamed his name on a, then, again failled attempt to snap out of the same overwhelming shock, and the shivers of the feeling of death around ending on it, even so after that was done with only water flowing like normally in front of him filling the silence of the Dirty blond heart once again. He just got over with it as fast as it came doing what he could to just keep on. Not letting anyone Watch how it may had affect him, just jokes around of his new alliance.

Just jokes, nothing else on the Hybrid heart, no more tears or laments those had been take care of a few moments ago. Or so he wishes, he knows that he's hurt, that he is grieving and he does not can't to give up that

Grian wants to just give in to that pain, just cry and let out that wilt of his heart but he can't, he just cant be seen in that kind of emotions, and the only thing he can keep doing is live.

Live for those who cant anymore for those who he stoled the opportunity of doing so and because i cant stand being alone, he never could and never will be able to stomach once again.

He also has to live for the past he is never strong or brave enough to let go, it will be unfair to those who suffered and got no other chance.

So just he does that, he lives and fights for that life until his body gives in for necessity, just as he wants it to do, and be taken by death once again probably alone just like he is cursed to be.

OKAY if i can't draw i can at LEAST jot down ideas-

scar's the only human of the group cuz i think that would be funny. he's the only human but he's so insanely chaotic

obviously, grian is some kinda birdie parrot guy. avian, i think is the term? he got the bird legs and the feathers and the big ass wings

i've seen a lot of people make mumbo a vampire but i like the idea of him being a demon instead. a really fancy demon lad that you summon with redstone and black candles

obviously, cleo's a zombie. she's called "zombie cleo" for a reason, it's literally her skin. i would just make her look pretty decayed cuz that sounds cool

no one knows what etho is. a lot of the group thinks elf cuz of the pointy ears, but who knows what's under the mask

tango, some sort of fire/ice creature. i know his skin is normally all red and fire related but i LOVE the ice/frost look he has for decked out in hermitcraft 9 (this is my first hermitcraft season so maybe he just always looks like that for decked out-). i HAVE to incorporate that

i like the sorta dwarf thing impulse has going on in hc9 so he'll be a dwarf in his forge :}

i'm following the trend of pearl as a moth lady cuz- moth people my beloved- moon moth lady

i've seen some people make gem half deer which i also very much love- maybe she'll be a forest nymph or something. very connected to nature

scott will be a fairy, cuz... i wanna make the pastel man a fairy :}

bdubz as a water creature, similar to the drowned, to go along with the pirate theme his skin seems to have
