«devil» you call me
but seem to be enjoying
the fruits of my labour that came to me too young
when he stole my virtue
I'm glad it seems to serve you
that I was born a daughter and not a son
for if I’m going down
I guess I’ll take you with me
screaming birds sound an awful lot like singing
and I will tell you now
that I’m not even singing
there’s no escape for some
what if we were two tragically fucked up lesbian vampires in 1940s paris and kissed
and what if 70 years later we were too far gone to bring back to life and definitely needing a divorce
and what if there was love somewhere in us all along

Songs I would give each ATLA character!
Aang: Me gustas Tu (by Manu Chao). Got both the good vibes and love for everything, but also sort of melancholy and unresolved.
Katara: My Sister's Crown (by Vesna). I love Eurovision and do know the meaning behind this song, but it also bangs so hard as a female empowerment ballad. Can imagine Katara rocking someone's shit while this plays in the background.
Suki: W.I.T.C.H (by Devon Cole). Same as Katara's in that I can imagine her absolutely kicking some guy's ass while this plays in the background, plus Sokka at the start- 'Why you scared of a woman in charge?'
Sokka: Puppy Princess (by The Hot Freaks). C'mon, 'you know me as your boyfriend's goofy friend, I seem to have this effect on women'? This is my man.
Toph: Wrecking ball (by Mother Mother). I think the name is pretty self explanatory- she IS a rock on top of the sand in s2X9 :)
Zuko: Ain't no crying (by Derivakat). There is no other song I could possibly have put for Zuko. Every. Single. Lyric. Is perfect for him. I can't even cite just one here because I'd end up putting the whole song.
Iroh: Just A Man (by Jorge Rivera-Herrans). Perfect mix of sad and powerful, with just the right amount of love for the boy who's 'as old as [his son] was when he left for war.'
Ursa: Labour (by Paris Paloma). All of the second verse is brilliant for this, and the whole mood of the song encapsulates that stuck feeling that's crucial to Ursa's character.
Ozai: Digital Silence (by Peter mcPoland). Okay, this one was really different because Ozai can't just have a good song, he doesn't deserve to take one of those! But in the end I did choose this song- which i love- because of its sinister vibes and anti-progressive lyrics.
Azula: Crazy Girls (by TOOPOOR). Personally I listen to it sped up a la tiktok edits, but it's the lyricism that sells this one. Like most of the other songs, it's the second verse that sells it, but the pre-chorus fits her so well too. And, after all, she is a 'crazy' girl at the end.
Jet: Preacher (by Roe Kapara). He's a bit of a random one, but the essence of Jet's character lives in this song I think. The second verse (who'd've guessed) feels like his life and death in Ba Sing Se, and even reaches being slightly meta: 'They'll sell you your forgiveness if you pay them with your life'.
I can't think of many other characters that need songs, but lmk your ideas!

5, 10, 15, & 20!!!
!!!
under cut because it got big (oops)
5: It's Called: Freefall by Paris Paloma
i love these lyrics because it's just so yummy to sing and listen to, if that makes sense. the vocals are layered and there's this kind of bouncy rhythm to it that is just phenomenal in the mouth
10: Femininomenon by Chappell Roan
i have to be completely and fully honest with you, up until this very moment i misheard part of the last line ("I'm so sick of online love") as "I'm so sick of all I love" and i just want to say that i like my misheard version better. i really had a lot of sympathy for the woman being depicted in this part and that personal journey she had where she got married to some guy she dated in college and popped out 2.5 kids and became a stay-at-home mom and adopted a dog and is the perfect daughter-in-law and lives this seemingly-perfect family life until she wakes up one day in her 30s or 40s and realizes that she is completely and utterly miserable in her life and is just sobbing to these strangers doing her nails at the salon because she has no one else to whom she can express this newly-realized immense dissatisfaction with everything she told herself once gave her joy and purpose. and the actual lyrics are mostly close to that but they're not quite the same so some of the meaning is lost and i like them a bit less now than i did before ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
15: Tyrant by The Bravery
i really like how these lyrics expand on the relationship between the speaker and the person being spoken to in the song. a lot of the song shows that the speaker feels drawn towards the person they're speaking to (lyrics like "you're so perfect for me", "a face like an iron fist / that i could never resist", and "I'll believe anything that you want") and that the person they're speaking to shares "words of wisdom", but at the same time they call this person a "tyrant". these lyrics really demonstrate the complexity in the speaker's relationship with who they're speaking to: they're drawn towards this person and are brought in by their words, but are now deliberately trying to resist them and their influence.
20: Love is Beginning by Imaginary Future
this song is on ellie wiseman's playlist so i love lines that make me think of her and gray!! the song (and these lyrics that start to go into the chorus) also have this kind of gooey sappy sentimental feeling that really works for them

the message behind oddworld
this might be a bit broad but I just wanted to explore the main themes in oddworld,my favorite game series with soul storm at the very top (it may or may not be because of al teehee). in oddworld, one main theme in the game is slavery and capitalism because believe it or not, there's still people in foreign countries being treated as slaves, mostly women. another main theme that kind of reminds me of avatar unironically is the industrialists destroying what the natives have and trying to make a profit from it. but what do all these themes have in common? well,it's a call to action for the government to do something about these very real issues people go through on a daily basis, like the women in Asian countries like India and Saudi Arabia who aren't even allowed to drive and married at the age of 8,but i'm getting sidetracked. one thing that the mudokons have in common that I noticed is scars. Alf has the most trauma and so does Abe and Alf also has the most scars. one on his lip, forehead, bottom eyelid and shoulder (ouch:() and I believe that the slavery they faced was worse than we think because it took years to get them freed by their messiah,Abe (<3). another constant theme in the game is wanting to run and escape and the constant, persistent fear of being caught while trying to run from their impending doom, being a terrible execution or if they even dare to escape the brew which is very similar to that of a crack or beer addiction. the slaves are kept in slavery, threatened if they even try to escape, the female mudokons are treated even worse as they are only seen as breeding grounds and can only produce male babies, have their precious land taken away and turned into work for the slaves for profit from the glukkons, shot on sight if they somehow manage to escape rupture farms, the glukkons being seen as corrupt politician's,the mudokons are depicted with low self esteem because of their harsh treatment and only see themselves as slaves, but worst of all,it's endless labour with no reward or pay and they are desperate to get out in any way and almost seem suicidal to escape the slavery and abuse. the song "labour" by Paris Paloma perfectly encapsulates this with the lyrics "for somebody I thought was my saviour, sure made me do a whole lot of labour". the whole song is perfect for oddworld especially the lyrics,"if we had a daughter,I'd watch and could not save her,the emotional torture from the head of your high table. she'd do what you taught her, she'd meet the same cruel fate,so now i've got to run so I can undo this mistake" and "24/7 baby machine". I see oddworld as a call to action and a protest to end the many depressing themes in the game. now let's talk about the brew for a moment. the song crack baby by Mitski is also perfect for this game "crack baby, you don't know what you want, but you know that you had it once, and you know that you want it bad". there's so much to unpack about oddworld and I could write an essay on it and turn it in on time but I don't have all the time in the world because of school. one last theme about oddworld is trauma too and the lyrics from crack baby capture that too "all these 20 years on a vacation" which i interpret as not knowing how your trauma has affected you until your adult years and you don't know what to do or can't get help because you feel as if it is too late to reach out. we all know Alf has trauma from almost dying because of withdrawal from the brew and possibly running the rehab for mudokons and that undoubtedly would leave a lasting mark for some people, but I feel like Abe also has some trauma as well from everything he's gone through in the games and I feel like because he's the chosen one,he was treated worse than the others which I feel like is a metaphor for having a disability and being treated worse than other people and not knowing why, also,Toby definitely has autism,I could just tell right off the bat and I love that Alf is there for him. oddworld tackles these topics really well and I wonder what other themes they will tackle in the future games

march + april rotation
it’s gonna be...... may finally posting the march + april rotation playlist. combining these two months since most of the music i listened to in march was off the previous rotation list!
flowers in my hair - calista garcia: sweet, slow, and syrupy. i love this song and how it feels like a breath of fresh air. it’s achingly romantic and has got me singing along and twirling my hair and kicking my feet. though, at the same time it’s so intimate i feel like i’m intruding
back for more - nia hendricks: the usual type of slow groove beat i adore that makes me want to dance around with the love of my life. it’s just as sweet as the previous one but it feels... lonely. mournful. i’d be dancing but with a ghost
bodybag - charlotte lawrence: this song is so *clenches fist* i am obsessed with how the body bag fills in for the other person in the relationship and holds her when they can’t or refuse to! the relationship is already dead! she’s holding on! in that liminal space between resurrection and burial! also the vocals in this are insane. my favorite part is ‘she’s at the bowery bar, showed you her paper heart’ and then ‘help me hurt and then i’ll come back’ YEOW
gasp of air - lisa curtis: THIS SONG MAKES ME WANT TO SING AND SCREAM ALONG AT THE TOP OF MY LUNGS!!!!!!!!! and then the lyrics slapped me across the face. ‘but i’ll stay and such ‘cause i think it’s love enough’ ‘i’m yours enough that i come back’ ‘some water if i’m lucky but i would never ask that much’ ‘what kind of person needs to breathe A HEALTHY ONE I’M SURE BUT THAT’S NOT ME’??????????
nothing left to give - BAILEN: ‘i wanna live i’m sick of just trying to survive’ *looks into the camera* anyway. obsessed with this band and how weird this song sounds
kilimanjaro - dolores forever: this song and the next have me asking how songs can be this good. like. is it crack? is that what they put in these?? the music and the vocals are EVERYTHING it’s unlike anything i’ve heard recently and i’m digging it. then the harmonies?? and the lyrics???? ‘a thousand shards of glass from your silver tongue got me like a shot gun’ the way ‘i was young. you were pure ice and snow’ IS SUNG?????? WTF
labour - paris paloma: this has been my hype song for the past few weeks. the intensity of it still continues to blow my mind. it’s unapologetic and awful. it’s incredible. i felt every lyric in my gut. i don’t want to over explain it since i can’t do the song justice but it’s so brutally honest in describing and dismantling traditional roles placed upon women and girls. the entirety of it is like poking at a wound that never closes, a wound that’s been gaping and bleeding for centuries and it makes me so angry. the visceral reaction i had to the lyric ‘if we had a daughter’ girl i- ouuuuugh. i got sick to my stomach. i was screaming crying throwing up etc etc. anyway this song is a masterpiece. still haven’t recovered from it. also it’s a fucking bop.
bad blood - trousdale: another banger for the books!! trousdale always delivers these perfect harmonies and this time it’s a fantastic, bitter song but that’s not the only element! there’s indifference and confusion and acceptance! there’s healing! and the repetition of anyway *patcha holding earbuds meme* perfection
all the love - katie gregson-macleod: katie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! how am i supposed to live laugh love in these conditions!!!!!!!! this one is SO SAD. i ache each time i listen to it. it doesn’t apply to romantic love but all other types of love and what happens when you lose it and how you deal with that loss. the grief is so thick it’s almost suffocating but as always the way she sings is enough for it to not be overwhelming. every lyric hits but the combination of her voice with ‘but i’d rather do that in bed alone’ is my favorite
BONUS: here are a few stray songs that didn’t quite fit in the narrative but i wanted to share them anyway :)
far and wide - WILDES: doesn’t quite fit the narrative, but it’s a good follow up to all the love. it’s toned down more and easier to get lost in, but still woven with the running strand of grief that makes it sorrowful. once again, back at it with the yearning
ava - famy: this song had me by the throat the first time i heard it in teen wolf and it still does. chewing glass over the switch between ‘this world is primal’ + ‘this world is rabid’ to ‘this world is pure’ + ‘this world is learning’ and ‘my conscious burning, my beastly flaw’
#labour is the song i've resisted sending you this entire month bestie lmao#you're gonna flip#monthly music rotation#monthly music roundup#the amount of time i spent organizing these songs.......#they have to flow into the other they have to tell a STORY#the story of me going THRU it <3#jk half of these don't apply to me but they're still bangers#labour high key reminds me of radio silence too#so#radio silence :hand shaking emoji: labour :hand shaking emoji: king by florence and the machine#i'm connecting the dots

guys i just found the perfect song for an angsty good omens animatic
Yeti by Paris Paloma
hear me out:
Our paths will never cross again And that's the way you wanted it You never could care less about the way we ended up We swim in different circles now I saw your tracks in snowy ground And didn't want to follow them as you fell off the earth
Aziraphale, pushing them apart because he doesn’t want to break the rules. Crowley’s fall could be represented by the last line
Sightings few and far between I have no words when they tell me A figure spotted roaming in the icy mountain wilds
how they meet each other every few hundred years throughout history.
And I don't know you I used to likе to pretend to We'rе nothing but myths now That neither of us believe in
such good lyrics for angst!!!
can someone make this please i’m terrible at animatics but i wanna see this done.

Interview Music Tag Game
RULES: Put your playlist on shuffle. For each of the 10 interview questions, select a lyric from the random song that comes up. (Skip if there aren't any lyrics and make sure to drop the name of the song in your interview answer!)
Thanks @felixantares for the tag, this was fun and also some songs fit in quite unexpectedly.
(Some of them fit too well.)
1. First off, how would you describe yourself in one sentence?
The callous skin on my hands is cracking If our love ends would that be a bad thing? And the silence haunts our bed chamber You make me do too much labor – Paris Paloma, Labour
2. What kind of Virgo are you?
I got two strong arms Blessings of Babylon time to carry on and try For sins and false alarms – Gigi d'Agostino, The Riddle
3. You're visiting your favorite spot. What are you thinking about?
The light on the horizon Was brighter yesterday With shadows floating over The scars began to fade – Linkin Park, Final Masquerade
4. If your life was a movie, what do you think the first review would say about it?
Ahhh, my first song here had no lyrics, but it would totally fit into my life soundtrack – Riopy, I Love You.
In a coat of gold or a coat of red A lion still has claws Mine are long and sharp, my lord As long and sharp as yours – The Rains of Castamere
5. Say you get a book deal, what are you titling your memoir?
Kom deg hjem – No.4, Lite og stort (Tr. "Come back home" – yes, I do have songs in Norwegian on my playlist)
6. What would you say about your best friends?
I heard them calling in the distance So I packed my things and ran Far away from all the trouble I had caused with my two hands Alone we traveled on with nothing but a shadow We fled far away – Of Monsters and Men, Mountain Sound
*nods*
7. Think back to when you had everything figured out in high school, what was your life motto as a teenager?
I'm dreamin' in colours, of getting the chance Dreamin' of trying the perfect romance The search of the door to open your mind In search of the cure of mankind – Within Temptation, Utopia
I–
Well, actually it was a song I considered my motto throughout high school. I even had them play it for me when I got my diploma when I was graduating!!!!!
BUT HOW DOES SPOTIFY KNOW IT
WHAT IS THIS SORCERY
8. Describe your aesthetic now.
I will kindly watch you sleep And I find out that your eyes are open I hide other pieces that you never would have liked If you knew about them So I hide my children – Aurora, In bottles
OUCH.
9. What's a lyric that they'll quote in your eulogy?
Though the truth may vary This ship will carry our bodies safe to shore – Of Monsters and Men, Little Talks
10. And for our final question, say we believe in soulmates, what do you think their first impression of meeting you will be?
Z narkotycznego snu Spadam w studnię bez dna, W narkotyczny sen bez dna. – Turbo, Serce na stos
OH DEAR.
So this one is in Polish:
You're a wild wind that swept me up like a frail leaf, There is no way to face it. You're the fire that consumes the heart, mind, nights, days, There is no way to face it. And I can not sleep at night, every nerve obsessed, and every thought drunk, drugged every day. From the narcotic sleep I'm falling into a well with no bottom, into a narcotic dream with no bottom.
Tagging @sandervansunshine @nanneramma @tracingpatternswrites 🥰

Yeah I too would have benefited from a "multiple or all of the above" option in that poll because I can't pick and it's also not only these items like. The amazing devil's song unwanted animal is a masterpiece for several reasons, but the bit where Madeline sings "oh can't you hear that scratching" and right after, so softly you can't even hear it without earphones, is a little scratching to the beat like ts ts ts ts just 4 little soft scratches and it drives me insane it's so beautiful. So simple but so brilliant. Little subtle sound effects like that get me.
Discordant melodies where the rest of the song is like perfectly ordinary 4/4 120 bpm major chords and harmonies but then this one bit, usually the bridge after the second verse or the fancy little bit before the last chorus that I can never remember the name of, like not the key change itself the little wobbly bits that just almost sounds wrong but not quite and then it goes back to normal? Magnificent! I've never felt such things before! I have
It may be tacky and overdone by now but when a musical uses improvised instruments or techniques to convey that the main character is quirky and genius and sees the world differently like yes construction workers somehow producing perfect percussion and train rail screeches sounding so almost like violins give me more! Goosebumps!
Mashups! Like a very specific kind of Mashup that glee got right more often than I'd like to admit. That one Paris Paloma song that's like "and the blackberry juice drips like blood on the leaves and the blood on the fox drips like dew from its teeth" etc for the bridge but every bridge has different lyrics and then in the fancy bit before the final chorus is just all of them overlapping like magnificent! Canons also fall in this category in my brain if a choir sings in Canon, ESPECIALLY when they do it with harmonies instead of all singing the melody? Fabulous! I die every time!
Motifs! Oh boy oh boy oh boy if I listen to the score of a film or a musical and there's a tune that's repeated throughout? I will cry every single time. Hamilton does this really well, interstellar, not Bridgerton as much but the queen Charlotte spin off definitely that little strings flourish, Dr who is fantastic at it like there are several motifs in nuwho that will make me cry every time. Both narrative and musical motifs for Dr who honestly but the musical ones will always hit me harder.
Taper-off endings where a phrase or chorus is repeated 3-5 times and each time some of the accompanying sounds falls away until the final phrase is just the single voice. What do you mean songs can announce their endings so clearly and it's still beautiful??
On the flip side songs with false endings that stop suddenly and then 4 beats later it's the chorus AGAIN! YOU'RE GIVING ME MORE?
Just music man our best invention ever may it never die.
This is a REALLY weird poll but I have to know if I'm the only one who gets very affected by music itself (not just the lyrics or because you like the artist or because a song reminds you of something sad) so...
pls reblog friends I'm so curious <3 <3 <3

2, 10, and/or 17 + genya for the character ask game?
Anon I love you for this omg
2. A canon or headcanon hill I will die on?
ohhh my god ok I’m soooo so so obsessed with the tailor short story like I can’t even tell you. Idk I don’t have anything to gatekeep abt her or defend about her other than I really actually love her speech at the queen and not the king in the show yk?? Idk I feel like it was really impactful for her to tell the queen she should have protected her. Obviously her trial was really important in the books too (I literally cry every time I read it) but I think it was an interesting twist.
10. Best moment on screen (or in the book)
GUYS LITERALLY EVERY SIBGLE THING SHE DOES. I ADORE HER. I’m really really partial to all her interactions and flirting with David like AUGHHHHHH I LOVE THEM SO MUCHHH I WANT TO CRYYY!!! I couldn’t get over David’s death for like two weeks I was devastated. But this is about Genya!! Man I wish LB had written more from genya’s POV bc I NEEEEED more of her internal thoughts. Save me. I can’t get enough of herrrrr in season 2!! OH but in the books….. “I should be your greatest shame.” *SCREAM* anyway I just think she’s neat. You get it. And also everything about The Tailor <333
17. Quotes, songs, poems, etc. that I associate with them
the fruits by paris paloma!!!! Saw a lovely edit to it a while back and went feral. I wish I could pick out a few lyrics but literally the whole song. Does he know that I’m falling off a precipice that I tripped off long ago. Devil you call me but seem to be enjoying the fruits of my labor that came to me too young. When he stole my virtue I’m glad it seems to serve you that I was born a daughter and not a son. If I’m going down I guess I’ll take you with me screaming birds sound an awful lot like singing. And I will tell you now that I’m not even singing. There’s no escape for some. Fucking spectacular song I love it.
picture perfect by the regrettes!! It’s a fun song with dark undertones and the whole thing sounds just like mean gossip does irl. On the playlist for angst reasons.
uhhh would’ve could’ve should’ve (Taylor swift) bc it’s lyrically lovely. If you tasted poison you could’ve spit me out at the first chance. If I was some paint did I splatter on a promising grown man. If I was a child did it matter if you got to wash your hands. If you never looked my way. I damn sure never would’ve danced with the devil. If I never blushed then they could’ve never whispered about this. Living for the thrill of hitting you where it hurts…!!!!!!!!! LORD YOU MADE ME FEEL IMPORTANT THEN YOU TRIED TO ERASE US!!!!!!!!!!!
sorry if this is incomprehensible I love her your honor •_•
