Putting that aside how is this not constantly cited in the Paris conspiracy lore?!?!! Hello?!? John?? All you need is love and you make a reference to France?? Hmmm?????!?!!! rats in paris: feb 18th lore recap [apo & martyn pov]

alternatively: things just went from 0 to 100 to 10,000 really fucking fast

spoilers under the cut. it's bad. as in insinuated dead dove levels of bad. [disclsimer: as in a "stream was good but HOLY SHIT" kind of way]

brief lore recap: apo was raised by cats and his cat family said that if he kills another rat, he would be considered an honorary cat

apo decided that he would kill a "bad" rat, in which case it would be whoever destroyed his goose "wife" (a swim ring), his first "friend"

TODAY: apo wants revenge for their goose "wife" and figures that since bek & el live next door to the scene of the crime, they probably know something

apo drags el to the squeakeasy to interrogate her

el mentions that since the pi-rats live nearby, they might know something about it

apo kicks el out of the squeakeasy, who goes and tattles to martyn

apo sneaks out and goes to talk to ren about it, who decides to mediate the conflict

the two then drag martyn to the library to talk about it

martyn admits to having destroyed the goose "wife" to build ren's desk (as in the white dogwarts banner lining decor)

apo is not happy about this, as expected

ren says that cases like these are resolved on the high seas with a duel to the death

apo then proceeds to obliterate martyn (down to 2 lives now) and fly away

for the record, apo does NOT feel good about having killed someone, and believes it might not have been worth it

apo then tries to talk to one of the apart-hotel cats, who still tries to attack him, causing him to have to escape back to the rattic

cue the identity crisis

apo says that they have elements of both cats and rats but also doesn't fit neatly into either category, and eventually decides, fuck it

MEANWHILE, ren has recovered martyn's items

martyn goes off on ren for letting other rats aboard the ship, seemingly on a whim

and it turns out that ren isn't quite as wholesome as one might have thought he was: reportedly, he's planning to be (and i QUOTE) "trading some of these rats for some very precious cargo indeed"

apo overhears the tail end of this conversation, ren obviously refuses to repeat what he said, and now apo thinks ren is sus

apo also wants to apologize to martyn because apparently he only destroyed the goose "wife" because he asked around and thought it was free real estate at the time

but of course martyn logs out before apo can say anything. she decides they'll probably talk about it during the rats 2 finale

later in the day, in other news, scott decides that if the rats are getting kicked out of the apart-hotel, he might move into mila's lab full-time as her lab partner (and if not, it's back to the sewers he goes)

scott then writes a letter to mila (the scientist npc) explaining all this

TL;DR version:

apo kills martyn as revenge for "murdering" their goose "wife" but regrets it and finally has an identity reconciliation between rat-hood and cat-hood

the reason ren was collecting everyone to be part of the crew may or may not be because he's involved in rat trafficking

scott intends to stay with mila (the scientist npc) in the event the apart-hotel shuts down and the rats are otherwise evicted

louis calling armand boring is so funny to me because the poor guy didn't know that standing in front of him was an ex cult leader who started to throw his ex cult memebers in a fire pit when they wanted to leave, proceeded to agree to take care of a violinist then when he got too fed up with him went and did an oopsie (cut the said violinist HAND off like a fucking hound just to be petty)

The ratchanting divorce isn't gonna happen because, Ren is overly friendly/trusting & doesn't know what the word "no" means and Martyn doesn't ever communicate his feelings/thoughts about anything that bothers him(because gods forbid we have healthy communications in minecraft smps/j)

It's gonna happen because Martyn was never even supposed to come back to the rats world in the first place and even so he still has a mission given to him to complete and at the end of every mission he has to leave the world he completed it in. So even if it wasn't rats but another world where everything played out exactly the same, the ultimate outcome of the situation would have been the same, that's just how it's supposed to be. No matter how long he has stayed there, no matter how attached he gets to everyone he meets, he still has to leave it all behind if he wants to make it back to his own world/reality(<<<idk???)

So in short, it was always gonna happen but it is only now hitting us all cause it's happening right now and it's as sad & angsty as we could have predicted

I have this one Life series/Rats SMP theory that's been spinning in my head for a few weeks now, I talked about it on Twitter but my reach there is basically 0. So I'm gonna bring it here to haunt you all with it. It's also gonna reference my personal Life series AU, but only because it was the thing that brought me to this conclusion.

Tl;dr: The idea is that Mratyn was a participant of one of the hundreds or thousands of alternate Life series and this is how he lost his eye.

I've been thinking about this clip of Mratyn revealing how he lost his eye for too long. The idea that he's an ex lab rat and his eye was taken by the humans for whatever reason. But was it really taken by them?

If you know my AU (Preservers AU/WLK!AU/The ones who watch, the ones who listen, the ones who kill AU), here's a funfact for you - it would never kick off if it wasn't for Rats 2 Martyn. I just saw the design, saw the eyepatch and immediately thought "Yep, this is that my guy needs". Spoilers for the AU, but after he won Limited Life, his eye was ripped out by the Watchers and replaced with a Watcher eye (and later completely removed). So, if you enjoy this AU, say thank you to Mratyn.

Anyway, why do I bring this up? Because at first, it wasn't confirmed (at least as far as I can remember) whether Mratyn was actually missing an eye. He could technically wear an eyepatch for aesthetic or pragmatic reasons. But that clip not only confirms that he does in fact that he does only have one eye, but also confirms that the 'humans' took it by experiementing on him like on other rats.

But why do I bring this up?

At some point in his endless loring (I think it was a lore stream but I'm not exactly sure) Martyn introduced the idea that there are actual;y hundreds and thousands of iterations of Life series - the ones we watch are just a little piece of them. That not only makes every fan series somewhat canon, every AU somewhat canon - it also gave me the idea that in not every Life series, players were actually humans.

My idea? One of the series' participants were rats, who percieved Watchers as humans. Mratyn was one of them, and these 'experiements' (aka the games) caused him to lose an eye. Were the other rats participants of these games? Maybe, but it's hard to tell. Not everyone is as obsessed with lore as Mr Littlewood himself lol

Anyway I hope you like this theory, the lore literally has me in a clutch and I needed to burden others with this knowledge (even if it's wrong)

Only once you try to actually stand up for your city (duel against Menelaus), and even there you can't do anything. A god has to save you. You know everyone in your city wishes you would've died there. You can't blame them.

You didn't learn how to fight or lead an army. The best you can ever do is to shoot someone in the foot. To you it is awesome, it's the greatest you've done so far- but next to what anyone else has done since the beginning of this war, your "exploit" is ridiculous to celebrate.

I'm sorry but I just cannot hate him. I feel so bad for him. He never asked for any of that. He will forever be blamed for the choice he had no control over and no possible good answer to give.

(I KNOW he's not a poor little victim who must be protected. Ik he's annoying and a bad person- but so is everyone else. I don't think he's a worse person than most other characters (maybe more annoying yes but it's not his fault he's blond (/nsrs)

Just got done with the Hamrat stream and my god, the switch from "is this happening or is it a play" the chaos, trolley problem, people getting accused, Ren mumbling about not being a captain

And the sudden switch to martyn's personal lore in the end, how this has all gotten a little bit too real.

Did you know?

There were a boatload of easter eggs compressed into that closing segment during the season finale of "Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man", but I'd thought to highlight a particularly interesting one.

The startup company Harry Osborn creates is Worldwide Engineering Brigade or W.E.B. for short. Sound familiar yet? As you can see in my edit above, that's the same company housing the Spider-Man attraction at the Avengers Campus (Disney's California Adventure and Walt Disney Studios Park).

It's obviously not the same timeline, since automatically this isn't Tom Holland's Peter Parker, and the Avengers Campus kind of runs outside 616's canon to correspond the theme park element. But as a Disney Parks fan, I would love to see more tie-ins with WEB in season 2 of "YFNSM"!

Bonus: Harry sent emails to former Oscorp colleagues to invite them to join W.E.B. One who'd accepted is a Wakandan girl named Asha. Well, in the WEB Slingers: A Spider-Man Adventure ride, the "slinger" vehicles have been crafted with vibranium. If the series honors any of the attraction's blueprints, we could see Asha engineering this project soon.
