This Racism Scale is a tremendous tool to ground a healthy discussion of #RaceEquity, and pinpoint your personal, group, institutional & structural maturity. There has never been one issue, policy, or concern in the United States of America that isn't grounded in & influenced by the myth of white male superiority. Not one. Not back then. Not now. The most important questions we all must ask ourselves are: 1. Where do I fall on this scale relating to #IndigenousPeople? 2. Where do I fall on this scale relating to #AfricanAmericans? Think you're #woke? Think again. Think I forgot about your #affinity? Think again. No matter your identity, every single issue, policy, or concern you have in the United States of America could be resolved by answering those 2 questions & moving further to the lower right. If you say love is the answer, I'll say love is that far bottom right corner. You can't name one news story or societal ill that couldn't be resolved by creating equity in the way we treat Natives, and when I say Blacks, I particularly mean the descendants of those who were enslaved. Think about it. I'll wait. Tell me. Where do you fall on this scale for question 1 & 2? I'll share my past & current in the comments Download a pdf version of this Racism Scale directly from the creators at https://RacismScale.weebly.com #RestorativeJustice #ElectionProtection #GunControl #WomensRights #MeToo #EndWhiteSupremacy #StopPoliceBrutality #DomesticViolence #Parents4RaceEquity #EndWhiteMalePatriarchy #StopRacism #SpeakLIFE #GRATITUDE #SpreadLOVE #LoveIsTheAnswer #PositiveVibes #Mindfulness #Empowerment #Equality https://www.instagram.com/p/Bp_F_xZBT0h/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=14d5aqxtmigpb

A belated anniversary! 👑 On April 15, 1848, at about 10 pm, the Pearl, a small rickety schooner departed from @TheWharfDC in #SW #DC with 77 enslaved persons. The escapees were assisted by Daniel Drayton, the captain in charge of the ship & Edmund Sayres, the captain in charge of the cargo. Paul Jennings, enslaved by #Senator Daniel Webster approached Daniel Drayton earlier in March 1848 to plan escape. The Pearl departed from the #AnacostiaRiver & sailed down to the #PotomacRiver in #Alexandria #Virginia where it spent the day. The next day the Pearl set sail for the #ChesapeakeRiver, but the trip was interrupted due to a windstorm. Sayres ordered the ship to take refuge at Point Lookout, and Drayton agreed because he was convinced that they were safely out of the reach of slaveholders in Washington. Slaveholders quickly recognized that many of their servants were nowhere to be found; and it was discovered regular chores were left unattended. A steamship quickly sailed 140 miles down river and captured the Pearl at #PointLookout with the captains & 77 escapees. Emily & Mary Edmonson were among the 14 #children on the Pearl. All of the escapees, including the #EdmonsonSisters were transported back to Washington & incarcerated in the Alexandria Bruin Slave Jail. Emily & Mary were sold w other family members to slaveholders from #NewOrleans, a market known for fancy girls. Bruin's daughter begged that Mary and Emily Edmondson be excluded from the group that was eventually sent to New Orleans, including other Edmondson #siblings. Their father, Paul Edmondson, traveled north to raise funds for the #purchase of 2 of his #daughters. Edmonson met Rev Lyman Beecher, #HarriettBeecherStowe's father, who raised the $ overnight. On November 4, 1848, the Edmundson Sisters were freed, & united w #FrederickDouglass & the #abolitionist movement. #EndWhiteSupremacy #AmericanHistory #DMV #BlackLivesMatter #Sculpture #Freedom #TeamUppityNegro #RaceEquity #ParentLeaders #SlaveRevolts #Parents4RaceEquity #TruthandReconciliation (at Wharf DC) https://www.instagram.com/soulpowercoach/p/BwU-rUYBE9w/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1kmkdz9w462tg

I found 2 pivotal @GWGSEHD papers while clearing out some old files. The Pedagogy of the Oppressed and Transformational Learning within the American Struggle for Black Liberation (August 2003) The Impact of Dialogue, Emotions, Awareness and Critical Reflection on Perspective Transformation: How can I be different to create a wholesome space for transformational learning in organizations? (Summer 2004) It's wild reading how much has changed - and how much hasn't changed one bit- in my understanding and approach to #truth & #healing within the lifecycle of human growth and development - pointed specifically toward #equity for the descendants of #enslaved African-Americans. I'm quoting names like #FrederickDouglass #BookerTWashington #RenitaWeems #bellhooks #HaileGerima #PauloFreire #DalaiLama #DanielGoleman, some of my favorite #leadership models & another colleague from The ASTD DC Metro chapter that I haven't seen in forever. There's tons I would change, particularly in my conclusions about #blackliberation & the cursory nod to #ListenToBlackWomen. I also know more about my own #familyhistory & the impact these systemic inequities have had on my own life. That said, I'm extremely proud of the way I was clearly struggling to propose meaningful solutions. Just because a paper is due, doesn't mean it's finished. We're now using terms like #Mindfulness & #RaceEquity but the grounded concepts & effective methods behind the terms aren't new. Healing is & will always be needed at internal, interpersonal & institutional levels & I've evolved my languaging of where the responsibility lies. White supremacy is a disEase that must be cured if any of us are to find #Peace. I've very clearly reframed the root causes to be systemic miseducation & #fear, instead of attempting to simply address the symptoms that appear downstream in black people's access & social outcomes. This passion (ok ok fine. This obsession) drew me to help stand up the #civicadvocacy training program in 2005 #Parents4RaceEquity. It also led me to search out & earn an #ICF accredited coaching certification in 2008 for my approach to SoulPowerCoach.com So what's YOUR life's work? https://www.instagram.com/p/BqnN9gzBXal/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=pgwk8sh9au1p
