Gravity Falls
Tagging: Sam Evans & Stevie Evans
When: August 4th, late afternoon
Where: Hartenstraat and at the hospital
Summary: Sam falls off a ladder while hanging up decorations for the party later that day and is taken to the hospital for a check-up.
Sam
After the success of the first street party, they had there had been talks about throwing another one. They couldn't have planned the follow-up any better. Sunny weather and the street was starting to look more and more festive the later it got. Sam climbed the ladder to hang up one of the last strings of twinkle lights. As he got to the top he reached for the hook to attach the lights. He stretched his arms and stood himself up on his toes to reach that little bit further when he lost his balance. Before he realized what was happening he was on the ground, rolling over to his right side to stop the pain shooting up his arm and left shoulder as he cried out in pain.
Stevie
Stevie been at the foot of the ladder, keeping it in place while Sam went about getting the last of the lights on. Before he knew it his brother lost his balance and landed, hard, on the concrete. They'd taken spills and tumbles before when they were kids but what he witness caused his stomach to clench; and the thud was worse. He abandoned the ladder and went to Sam, phone in hand. He didn't want to touch him but he didn't want to not do anything either. A hand went to Sam's side. "Do you-" it felt ridiculous to ask the question and he pushed through the hesitation. "Do you think you broke anything? I can call for an ambulance."
Sam
Yeah, no, I think the sickening cracking sound I heard was me landing on a bag of chips,” Sam groaned. Even in moments like this, he tried to lift the mood by replying with a joke. He made an attempt to sit up only to fall back in pain when he put some weight on his left arm. “Oh not good..” he mentioned, closing his eyes to fight the dizzy spell that washed over him. “An... yeah, an ambulance might be a good idea.”
Stevie
Stevie stared at his brother and looked to the arm he landed on. It was hard to tell how bad it was but it didn't look normal, that much he knew. He brought his attention to the phone, glad Sam tried to alleviate the situation because it showed he wasn't hurt to the point of losing his sense of humor. Stevie asked what the emergency number was and soon put his phone back into his pocket. "They said to not move you," he told him, a hand on his shoulder as he lowered to sit next to him.
Sam
As Stevie talked to the emergency services Sam tried to make himself comfortable without moving around too much. He was dizzy enough, thank you very much. Catching a glimpse of his arm he groaned. “Fuck...” he cursed upon seeing it. His hand was pointing to the left and just above his wrist, there was a bend in his arm that wasn't supposed to be there. “Pretty sure it's not supposed to bend like that,” he pointed out. He sighed, looking at Stevie as his younger brother sat down next to him. “Yeah, not planning on doing that, think I might hurl when I do. Super dizzy,” he told Stevie.
Stevie
"Want me to get the trashcan from the bathroom?" He asked, worried about his brother. Stevie only hurt himself seriously once, when he cut his arm open on a shard of broken glass and that left him feeling all sorts of terrible. Sam's color was off and he looked around to see if maybe Matthew was close by. The man was a firefighter and Stevie knew they had training when it came to medical things. All he saw on the sidewalk were people walking by. A few looked down the street towards them but they were too far to know there'd been an accident.
Sam
"No, stay," Sam said hurriedly. The thought of having to wait here by himself for Stevie to come back scared him. Using his good hand he reached for one of Stevie's."Just... just keep talking."  His mind wandered for a while, hoping that he wasn't too hurt and would be able to go to work come morning but he doubted it. The adrenaline of the fall was starting to wear off and he was starting to feel more and more pain as the minutes passed by. "Remember when my shoulder got injured during that game? This hurts like a thousand times more," he told Stevie as he could hear the sound of an ambulance siren coming closer.
Stevie
How could he forget? It was the first time when he realized his big older brother was capable of getting hurt. That he wasn't invincible like the superheroes he talked to him about in all those comics he owned. "Okay. I won't leave." He wished Stacey was here, that way one of them could go in the house and get whatever needed but the thing was Stevie didn't know what was needed to better the situation.
Sam
“Thanks, Stevie. Helps a lot just having you here right now.” Sam gave his little brother's hand a soft squeeze just as another dizzy spell washed over him. He was pretty sure that next to a broken arm he had a concussion. “Peter.. I got to call Peter, and someone will have to watch Banner for a while” Sam worried out loud.
Stevie
“Do you have your phone?” He asked and then Stevie looked at the house and said, “I can see if Cassia is home. Maybe she can look after Banner while we’re at the hospital?” He didn’t want his brother to stress when he just had a big fall. Where was everyone on this street? They were always around on walks and bike rides.
Sam
Sam nodded fishing his phone out of a pocket with his good hand. He passed it to Stevie and glanced over at Cassia's place. “Yeah, can you ask? Please?” he caught some movement in the corner of his eye and noticed the ambulance stopping close by. “They probably need some room... you could check and see if Cass is home,” he didn't want Stevie to see the amount of pain he was feeling right now, or to see his big brother pass out from seeing a needle. He could handle speaking to the ambulance crew himself.
Stevie
Stevie didn't want to move until the ambulance was there and as soon as he saw the first paramedic he went across the street, noticing a line which hung in the air which went from his brother's room to somewhere in Cassia's house. He didn't know what that was exactly but it'd been there for a while now. As soon as he walked in front of her house the door opened and the blonde was staring across the street. "Oh my God, Stevie. What happened" she asked as she went down the steps. "Who got hurt?" "Sam fell off the ladder. I think he broke his arm but I want to say that might be it?" He wasn't completely sure because Sam might have hit his head, too. "Do you think you can look after Banner while we're at the hospital?" She looked at the ambulance but it blocked everything. Cassia went from her spot and walked across the street. "Of course I can. I'll bring him to my house." She told Stevie and as soon as she saw Sam her face shifted to worry. There was no way she could talk to him and Stevie stood behind her. "I'll let Sam know when I talk to him. But I need to get going. Give me a call if something comes up. Oh, and the front door is unlocked so you should be able to let yourself upstairs into the house." Stevie went ahead and gave Cassia his key and thanked her before he returned to his brother who was in the middle of being looked at. "Cassia said she'll take care of him though she's very worried about you."
Sam
“Thank goodness.” Sam had never been happier to hear Stevie's voice. He was worried that his brother might not be back on time to ride with him in the ambulance as they were about to move him into it. And although he was happy to hear Cassia would look after Banner he felt bad to make her worry about him. He fell silent, feeling the pain meds kick in and he listened to one of the paramedics bring Stevie up to speed about what was happening as the other secured the stretcher. “It looks like his arm is broken, from what I can tell at 2 places and the break closest to his wrist... I'm worried the bone has shifted. But we need an x-ray to be sure. And his nauseousness might indicate that he has a concision. So we're taking him to the hospital to have that all checked.” Sam giggled softly. “I love your accent,” he told the paramedic before looking for Stevie. “They gave me the good stuff,” he pointed out, licking his lips.
Stevie
Stevie understood most what was being told to him, distracted between the seriousness from the paramedic to Sam's near-giddy state. Which he attributed to the pain medication. He followed everyone in and as soon as he could, he took a seat next to one of the paramedics. "Do you think we'll be in the hospital for a while?" He asked, mostly so he could communicate with Cassia on what to expect.
Sam
"I'd say about an hour or two," the paramedic replied. Sam blinked his eyes against the lights as he answered the questions the paramedic had for him. They reminded him of that time he busted his shoulder during one of the Titans games. Back then he thought is was silly for people to ask what day it was, and ask for his name but now he knew better, they were making trying to asses how bad the concussion they thought he had was. Soon enough he was brought into the X-ray room and after x-rays were taken they brought him up to the First Aid. “Thanks for coming with, dude.” he thanked Stevie.
Stevie
Stevie didn’t know what else to do than be there for emotional support; talking and listening and making sure his big brother was okay. When they had a moment between them, after things were well on the way and he’d communicated with Cassia, he said, “It’s no big deal.” He didn’t want to make it seem like one because no matter what he’ll be there for Sam. “Do you feel any of it?”
Sam
“ The only thing I felt was when they were tugging and pulling at my arm from both ends to get the bone back into place. But after that not really no.” Sam replied. They were waiting for someone to come and put the plaster on Sam's arm. He'd been eyeing the colors of tape they had in the room. “You think they ask what color you want? Cause if they do, I want red.” Sam's little grin a clear sign that he wanted red for a reason.
Stevie
This caused him to grimace as if he were able to feel the pain his brother described. Stevie placed a hand on his elbow and rubbed it as a way to alleviate the phantom ache he felt there. “Red? That’s a bold color choice. I think the kids at the bookstore will gravitate towards that like a hummingbird to a feeder.” He laughed and went to see the tape choices. “Who do you think out of your friends will want to sign your cast first?”
Sam
“That's me, super bold!” Sam joked, grinning as his brother laughed. “That's a good way of putting it, yes. Sam had to think about Stevie's question for a while, not because he couldn't come up with a name but because he could name a few friends who'd love to be the first to sign his cast. “Probably Cassia, or Peter... whoever gets their hands on it first.” He let a lull fall in their conversation, needing some time to put into words why he actually wanted to have a cast that was red. “What if I kind of don't want anybody to sign it? Would they be mad?” He lifted his good arm and placed his hand to the back off his neck, rubbing it. “I wanted to ask you to help me decorate it so it looks like Iron-Man's suit...”
Stevie
“Oh!” He said as soon as he caught on to what Sam was talking about. “Do you want it to be painted? I think that’ll be better. Spray paint could work. I’ve never  done any type of cast paints jobs before but I can look up suggestions so it has a nice, deep color to it and doesn’t look washed out.” He said as he eyed the tape. “Or would they tape the whole thing red and I sharpie the rest?” This was so new to him and he wanted to do a good job.
Sam
Sam smiled softly as Stevie caught on to what Sam wanted to do with the cast. “I don't know if you can paint a cast... It would get wet, right?” Sam was thinking out loud. He did that at times, it was easier for him to put all the thoughts in his head into words, and try to make sense of them this way. “Or is paint spray dry compared to normal paint? It'd be pretty awesome if we could make it a really deep red, even more than that tape.” He worried his lip. “I think the sharpie way is the safest way to go. So red tape and then Google the heck out of Iron-Man's suit to find a good example you can use as a pattern.”
Stevie
“I hadn’t thought about it being wet and what that will do to the cast.” He thought out loud. “Spray paint dries faster than normal paint but I think the tape is the safest option.” Stevie’s excitement started to make itself known the more his brother got into it. “I’ve never done any type of comic character before so this will be a new challenge.” He was happy they were able to turn a crappy situation into one that’ll make his brother happy.
Sam
“I can totally help you with how to make it the most comic looking. Would be kinda cool if we manage to make it look a little metallic like, like the real Iron-Man, know what I mean?” Sam was starting to get more and more into this idea. He might be able to see things in his mind but sometimes it was hard to put it into words and actions but he was sure that with Stevie's help this cast was going to look awesome.
Stevie
“This will be one of the first times since I was a kid where we work on an art project together.” He pointed out with a smile. “I think if I work with the shading then it’ll give it a nice mock sheen. Or we can cover it in plastic.” He said, more as a joke than to be taken seriously. “Doubt that’s a good option. Don’t casts need to breathe?”
Sam
“Has it really been that long?” Sam frowned as he thought back to the last time they did an art project together only to come up with that, yes, it had been that long. He wanted to change that, find more things for them to do together in the future. “Ummm, I think they do... my arm starts to feel itchy already thinking about what it would be like to wear something covered in plastic for a few weeks. Thou.. excellent waterproofing,” Sam added. There was a lull in the conversation as a nurse came in to put Sam's arm in a cast and explained why the doctor chooses to have the arm in a full cast that covered the whole of Sam's left forearm, and that it would have to stay on for at least 6 weeks. Sam groaned at that. Six weeks having to use his right hand for everything, it was going to be a challenge. “Thank God my book is at the editor already,” Sam muttered as the nurse taped up the cast with the red colored tape Sam asked for. Shortly after they found themselves on their way out of the room. “So going to ask Cass for a good neck massage next week cause this damn thing weighs a ton,”  Sam pointed out, adjusting the sling that he was supposed to wear to keep his arm up.
Stevie
Stevie wanted to show his excitement about the cast project but the nurse stepped in and he went to the side of the room to watch the process. There were a few moments in the explanation where the nurse looked at him instead of his brother and, at first, he thought it was because she wanted him to know things, too. But towards the end when she was about to leave it felt as if it was something more than that and it left him feeling slightly awkward. After they were ready to leave Stevie took a deep breath and went next to his brother. “I think that shade of red is close to Iron Man’s. Oh, and yeah. Cassia will probably want to help with whatever you need. She’s always offering to help out.”
Sam
Sam had caught a glimpse of the nurse trying to get Stevie's attention for more than just explaining what to watch for in the next few days with Sam's arm being in a cast. The kid was even more oblivious when it came to spotting someone flirting with them then Sam was at times. “I think she liked you,” he muttered as Stevie joined him. He took out his phone and started texting, sighing as he made typo after typo. “Dyslectic lefty typing with right, I pity my spellchecker,” he mentioned, chuckling. “Yeah, I bet that if I ask she'll schedule me in... Thanks for coming with. Made it way better having to go to the hospital with you there.” As they walked outside Sam looked around for the nearby tram stop so they could go back home. “That way, … looks like one will be here soon.” Sam pointed ahead, seeing a few people waiting.  He sends off a text to Peter, hoping his boyfriend wouldn't freak while reading it.
Stevie
He didn’t think she liked him but why else give him as much attention as she did when he wasn’t the patient? Stevie followed Sam and when they reached the tram stop he watched as his brother struggled with his phone. He thought to offer to help but whatever needed to be typed was done and soon they were off to head back to the house. Stevie knew he’d have to stand to the side the moment they arrived home because one look from Cassia and she’ll want to take as much care of Sam as he would allow. In a sense, this made Stevie smile because they may be miles away from their family but they managed to make one here, too.
