Hey Sergle, how does one learn how to draw? Like, I am in my 20s, can barely draw a stick figure, and feel overwhelmed whenever I try to look up tutorials. Do you have any advice on how to start?
my Unprofessional advice on how to start in earnest, is to do it the way little kids do when they start learning to draw! which is to not approach it as learning at all. sitting down and scribbling out whatever comes to mind, reading a book or watching a movie and trying to copy the way the characters are drawn. draw a page full of cats. do it while you watch tv. doing all that w/o the Grown Up impulse to be embarrassed that you're new at a skill.

Inktober is honestly doing wonders for me. It's such a good opportunity at getting silly with my art. I have a lot of extra rules going on like the fact that I'm doing two challenges at once and that I try to go for a slightly different style every drawing but it's also very lax like I can just draw ocs or draw fanart and I can skip a day and do it the following or even switch the prompts around (I try to avoid.this tho) like. It's being very fun and it's getting me to try out a lot of different things,I've even drawn fanart like brooo who is this person 🫣🫣

grape hyacinths are one of my favorite spring ephemerals. not only are they adorable, but the flowers can be used for making syrup that tastes faintly and sweetly of grapes.
and if that’s not your thing, they can also be used for making color-changing ink. the initial ink might look purple in color, but as it hits the paper and begins to dry it will turn blue. and if you add an acid, it will turn pink. and if you add a basic it will turn green (you can do this with the syrup, too!)
this happens because of naturally-occurring pigments called anthocyanins – the same pigments found in purple cabbage, violets, and blueberries!

Creator Spotlight: @mimimar
Hi! I’m Michelle (Mimimar), an illustrator born and raised in Venezuela, currently based in Italy. I enjoy making colorful illustrations that reflect the things I love: fairy tales, fantasy, tenderness and queer (especially sapphic) stories. Occasionally, I also make paper dolls, comics and animatics. I have a lot of interest in book illustration and I’m currently developing my own stories that I hope to share as an author-illustrator someday!
Check out our interview with Michelle below!
Did you originally have a background in art? If not, how did you start?
I always enjoyed drawing when I was a kid, but it only became a hobby that I did almost every day when I was around 11. At first I only used traditional mediums, but I decided to make a serious effort to learn how to draw digitally when I was 15, and once I got the hang of it I never stopped!
I didn’t go to art school so all of my learning was done through studying the tutorials and resources that other artists generously share on the internet and lots of practice / trial and error.
How do you want to evolve as a creator?
I want to do many things but what I want to do the most right now is work on books! I want to make art for other authors’ stories and also my own stories as an author-illustrator. I want to grow as a storyteller and create art and stories that will really resonate with people emotionally. I’m always striving to improve my skills as well.
I also really love dolls, so working on doll box art or as a doll designer is something I would love to do someday. I actually have been designing paper dolls on my Patreon for the past few months, it’s been a fun project that is still ongoing right now!
What is one habit you find yourself doing a lot as an artist?
Probably using a lot of purple! It’s my favorite color so I find myself using it a lot. If I can find a way to sneak a little bit of purple into an illustration or a character design then I will.
Congratulations on finishing your Ivy Comic! Did the outcome turn out like how you expected or were there some unexpected bumps along the way?
Thank you! It’s a project that I worked on very slowly in between other art because I wanted to really take my time with every spread and make each of them a fully detailed illustration. I thumbnailed the full comic before starting but I kept changing the sketch for the final spread until the very end! Overall I’m really proud of the end result. I sprinkled a lot of hidden details in every page that I hope some of the readers will notice. For example: the meanings of the flowers in each page represent what the characters are feeling in that moment, and the colors of their wardrobe become gradually lighter as the story progresses to represent their emotions, as well as the changing of seasons.
We’ve noticed that you have created some amazing cover art for TGCF. Is there another series you would like to do something similar with?
That was another passion project that took some time to complete. Initially, I didn’t intend for them to be specifically covers, it was just a series of illustrations based on the 5 books/main arcs of TGCF. But since they were well-received and I had people telling me they wish they could use them as covers for their books, I decided to rework them into dust jackets for the english translation of TGCF!
I haven’t thought of any other specific series but I love doing cover art so maybe I’ll do something similar again in the future!
What’s your favorite part of your style? Why?
I’ve heard from other people that there’s a delicate quality to my art, this is something that I like a lot! I like pretty things, fairytales and vibrant colors. I think all of these things probably reflect in the art I make as well.
If there is one thing you want your audience to remember about your work, what would it be?
I hope that they remember how it made them feel. Feelings and colors are the two things I give priority to in my work. Most of the time I like depicting tenderness, softness and emotional intimacy. If that could reach the viewer and stay with them it would make me very happy.
I make a lot of art with queer (mainly sapphic) themes because they’re the kind of stories I personally like and want to see more of, so whenever people tell me that my art has helped them in their journey to discover and accept themselves, or that they see themselves and their partner in my art, it is always extremely meaningful to me. When art that I made to give myself comfort can provide comfort for others, no matter how small, it reminds me once again that despite any hardships art is genuinely worth pursuing.
Who on Tumblr inspires you and why?
So many artists! To name a few:  I love @sakizo’s amazing eye for fashion and detail,  @paneeps’ gorgeous style and striking colors,  the sweetness of @bevsi’s art,  @vickisigh’s pretty colors and concepts,  @idledee’s warm and heartfelt art,  @littlestpersimmon’s dreamy wonderful art,  and @loish has been an inspiration for as long as I can remember.
Thank you so much for stopping by and sharing, Michelle! Be sure to check out their Tumblr blog over at @mimimar.

Victorian puzzle purse
What you need:
A square paper. Mine is 21 x 21cm cut from a A4 paper. Use a thicker paper if you are going to be using watercolours as you’re going to be painting double sided.
Your favourite decorating tools!
Below is the How-to. I’ve also uploaded a more detailed tutorial on my story for my origami beginners so that you can flick back and forth:
Fold along diagonally in both corners. You will have two creases forming four triangles.
Fold into three sections. Rotate 90 degrees and repeat this step folding inwards.
Flip it over!
Fold all bottom corners to meet the corners of the centre square.
Flip it over again so you’re back on the side you started with.
Fold four corners inwards and twist slightly until a pinwheel shape forms. This bit is a bit scary but trust your creases!
Form a purse by folding the arms inwards.
Tuck the last arm in! 💌
Decorating tips: Make it unique for the person receiving it! In my card I’ve included things that we both like: lemons and apples we like to bake desserts with, favourite flowers…. And lots of cliche stuff like love hearts, angels, love birds and poems because why not! I’ve placed these motives in mirroring positions to create symmetry – gives it that folky vibe

HII I love the way you write sm !! is it okay if you write anything with nagi ??
thank you!! i'm assuming this is for my 200 followers event bc i have written a few scenarios for nagi. this was prob the most fun i've had writing him, so i hope you enjoy!
they say love is a game, and for nagi, that can't be more true.
nagi first gets to know you when you sit next to him in class, and through your constant pestering for him to listen to the teacher and take notes, he realises he can't ignore you. at some point, you stop prodding his side as much and instead slip notes to him with little jokes on them, which he much prefers. he starts to stay awake more in class, awaiting your next slip of paper, and it's only when reo muses about how attentive nagi has been in class recently that nagi realises you've already got him right in the palm of your hand.
nagi takes his time to get to know your interests, your quirks, your ticking points. he completes the tutorial patiently, and commits every detail to memory. he helps you with your bags and other heavy things, gives you jellies when you seem sleepy or down, and walks you to the bus stop after school although he stays on campus. beyond these side quests, he makes sure to complete the special events too. he takes you out for a meal on your birthday and gives you a little cactus that matches his own, and on white day, he taps hershey's kisses on your cheek, nose, hand, and finally, lips, before giving them to you.
with enough experience points, nagi tries new combo moves. when he walks into class in the mornings, he greets you with a hand on your head that glides down the length of your hair to land on your shoulder. when you eat dinner with him on wednesday evenings, he leans close to you, steals something from your chopsticks, and gets you to wipe his lips. when you're in the stands to watch his matches, he looks at you every time he scores, smiles, and hugs you at the end even if you complain about his sweat.
games are only fun if nagi wins, which is why he takes his time to level up and prepare himself for his first boss fight. he runs mental simulations, practises the steps, and even prepares a flower buff. he waits for the perfect time to strike, and when he finally feels ready, he confesses.

How to Make a Charm Necklace Magic-Style
✩₊°.⋆☾⋆⁺₊✧✩₊°.⋆☾⋆⁺₊✧✩‧⁺⋆⁺‧₊☽✧☾₊‧⁺⋆⁺₊✧✩₊°.⋆☾⋆⁺₊✧✩₊°.⋆☾⋆⁺₊✧
Tumblr media
So in a recent post I talked about having a set of charms that I wear whenever I leave the house. I thought it might be a fun tutorial to detail how someone could make a similar thing for themselves! The post is a long one, so the rest of the guide is under the cut!
Tumblr media
Step 1: Lay out all of your perspective charms and see what speaks to you and what you might want to put together. When you're choosing pieces, try to think of your goal and intent while you're putting your charms together (i.e. mine is for general day-to-day so I mostly focus the charms around safety, ease of way, and good fortune. Tailor yours to what you need). You don't have to make a necklace, just make sure that whatever you're attaching your charms to and the jump ring(s) connecting everything are sturdy enough to hold the charms' weight.
I have a 'main' components and 'auxiliary' components with the main components being the anchor points and foundation of what I'm working towards (i.e. I have my locket with sigils and my key charms as main components and I'll switch out the other parts as desired). Listed below are some ideas for options that you can combine, but use whatever feels best to you:
Lockets- I HIGHLY RECOMMEND that a locket is part of your configuration. You can fit a slip of paper with spells/sigils written on it AND if it's a scent locket you can add a bit of fabric with a perfume oil or a spell oil that would be safe to wear (check the spell oil ingredients if you're going to use a spell oil).
Bottle/Vial Charm Pendants- these are really good for wearable spell jars (you'd just have to careful about breaking them). You can buy pre-made bottle spell charms (there are a lot of options available) OR you can buy a vial pendant and do a working of your own choosing depending on your preferences/needs (there are also many options for empty vial charms you can buy). You could also keep spell powders/dusts in a vial charm (also usable for on-the-go workings).
Crystal Pendants- If you are someone who utilizes crystals in your practice, having some complementary crystals or crystals that you tend to favor can really add a kick.
Religious pendants/charms- Pentacles/crosses/saint pendants/deity pendants/etc. are all good options for this sort of configuration if they're something that features in your practice or you have a specific figure you want to invoke.
Symbol/Icon charms- similarly to the option above, charms that have animals/flowers/symbols/ whatever else you may want to invoke the properties/help of can be a good addition as well
Bells- bells have traditionally been used in different cultures for sound cleansing and to ward off negative spirits/entities. If that's something you might want (and are ok with making some noise) adding a bell might be a nice touch.
Keys- keys are useful magically for unblocking roads, gaining access, and invoking magic/energy relating to crossroads. Keys/key charms can be pretty easy to get too, so it might be worth trying to have one in your configuration.
Other meaningful charms: as it says on the tin, if it's important to you or you want to keep it on you, try it out in your configuration see if it will work well with it. In the picture above of my own pendant collection alongside more standard pieces there's an antique pen knife that can be worn as a pendant. Put whatever you want on these configurations is my point.
Tumblr media
Tip! Some pendants like the pendant on the right have a paste/textured back that you can write on. If that's something you'd want to do, aim for something that looks like the pendant on the right. It's a solid way to hide sigil magic in your jewelry.
Tumblr media
Step 2: Prepare the individual charms that you're going to be putting together. Clean/cleanse* everything appropriately (use mundane and magical methods), get sigils written out, anoint anything that you want to anoint, charge/enchant anything that needs it- whatever workings you need to do to the individual components of your charm necklace, do them now.
*If you're using metal pieces (especially if they're old/antique) there's a decent chance you may need to clean those pieces periodically with a metal cleaner/polish. When you clean the metal, do maintenance work for the rest of the configuration by charging/re-enchanting the other charms.
Tumblr media
Step 3: Put your charms together and test out your configuration. Sometimes things won't work together as well together or a different component will work better in your configuration.
Ending Notes & Tips
If you put something like this on an object, make sure you focus on how you need/want to effect the object. Like, I have another variation of this on a chain on my bag, and that working is more focused on security and being unobtrusive more than anything else.
Generally I would consider how fragile your individual charms/items are and how likely breakages are to occur. You don't want to be scattering any broken glass/sharp bits and you definitely don't want to cut yourself on anything in the event of any broken charms.
Other considerations should be if individual parts are safe to wear. As previously mentioned, select for spell oils that are safe to wear and for crystal pendants that won't interact with water/skin oils/body products (i.e. selenite melts in water and pyrite will create sulfuric acid when exposed to water). Basically make sure that having this on your skin isn't going to cause any problems for you.
It can be a a good idea to change up individual charms in your configuration to tweak things to your daily needs. Using my usual configuration as an example, I'll switch out my crystal pendants or other charms if I have specific needs/events for a day (like maybe if I'm traveling I'd add more protection/safe travel oriented charms or if I had a date on I'd choose one of my love/attraction charms).
I hope this gave you some ideas for your own practice, thanks for reading💜

Fun Selfshipping Activities!
Tumblr media
Print out pictures of them to hang up on your wall!
If they wear jewelry, make it!
Make stickers of them! (There's tutorials on youtube of how to make stickers at home, or, you can get sticker paper on amazon for pretty cheap!)
If you do make stickers, put them on your sketchbook, journal, laptop, or whatever you feel like putting them on!
Make a google slides presentation on them! Alternatively, you could also write an essay about them.
If they don't have a canonical style of handwriting, find or try to write in a way they would write!
If they do, try making your own font of their handwriting that you can download and use. Or, try to learn how to write similarly to them, maybe write letters to yourself from their perspective.
If they have a birthday or there's a holiday coming up (irl or canonical), make a card for them!
Make them in the sims, or some other character creation making game. Or you could make a Minecraft skin of them.
Draw them as a character from another source. For example, draw them as a pony from MLP, or draw them in the style of a cartoon you like!
Make a playlist of Youtube videos you'd think they'd enjoy watching, and perhaps watch them again and pretend like you're watching them with your f/o.
Make food they canonically like, or you'd think they'd like!
Make a tier list as if they were making it! Like a fruit tier list, for example.
Compile an Amazon list or Pinterest board of clothes they would wear!
If you're able, buy snacks you think they would enjoy!
Name a stuffed animal after them or name a stuffed animal something you think they would name it.
Make yourself a sticky note as if they made it (like a doodle, a simple 'I love you', or something silly!)
If your f/o has a particular interest, look into it! Study it even, if you'd like!
Take quizzes as if you were them. Could be something serious, or something silly you find on uquiz.
If your f/o is romantic and you would want to have children with them, pick out baby names! Compile a pinterest board of baby clothes or toys you and your f/o would purchase together.
Build you and your f/os dream home in a building game (like Minecraft or The Sims)
Plan out a vacation of somewhere you'd want to go with your f/o. Maybe you could make a Google slides "brochure" to convince them to go.
If your f/o has a canon perfume or cologne they wear, or alternatively, their source created one for them (primaniacs website has a long list of series they've made scents for!) put the scent notes into fragranticas "search by notes" feature to find a dupe, or make one yourself you think they'd wear!
Compile a list of flowers you think (or know) your f/o likes, make them into a bouquet and maybe look up the meanings for each flower.
Compile a list of candles or body lotions your f/o would buy!
