🏀: Hey pops, which of us do you love the most?
Papa Leech: I love you boys equally.
🍄: This is for a bet. Please answer honestly.
Papa Leech:
Papa Leech: I love you both equally.
🍄: *Sigh* Father-
🏀: Who do you like more-?
Papa Leech: Jade.
🏀: HA! I knew it! Pay up, Jade!
🍄: Honestly, father, I expect so little of you, and yet you still manage to disappoint me.
Papa Leech: I should have let you both die. 😊
(The Leech family love language is 'be a menace'. Also, this is based off this old thing I remember hearing. You'll always love your family, but you don't have to LIKE them XD)

TWST Fanfic "Her Lost Voice": Chapter 19 (FINALE)
Tumblr media
Chapter 19: Part of This World (Part 2)
"Make a deal with me. Release Junonia permanently and I will use my magic for your clan's benefit only."
The Muraeni crew stared at Elise with a mixture of looks. The two younger sons looked the attractive girl up and down like she was a new toy. Proteus seemed intrigued as well but no one had a sharper eye than Don Muraeni himself.
"Elise, you can't be serious!" Luna started to argue as she held her sister protectively, "Azul, say something!"
The boy merely pushed up his glasses with a defeated sigh, "You think I haven't already tried? What more can I say? She is determined..."
Elise stepped forward, straight toward Don Muraeni with little to no fear. The two sons bared their teeth and started to charge her before their father snapped at them, "Back off you two. Proteus...put them in time out."
The ray repeated the same ritual of unsealing two bottles that trapped the brothers inside them just as the previous bottle had done to Junonia. The Don then snapped his fingers at his right hand and the two men began to circle Elise like two buzzards. Muraeni's ice blue eyes, his nose, each sense noted every detail like an apex predator. She was young, beautiful even, but not reckless in her offer. Her luminous eyes, the vibrance of her features and her energy told him that she was no run-of-the-mill mermaid. If that didn't do it, the Royal Rose Queendom pins adorning her did. Proteus was on the same page judging from the widening grin on his slim face.
Muraeni paused to lean down and carefully sniff at her, "...you're a cecaelian mermaid. No wonder you reek with magic and ink. I admire your gumption but what exactly do you have that is so enticing?"
"Aside from your oh-so-pretty face," Proteus chuckled as he gripped the girl's chin to get a better look at her, "Lovely..."
Elise ignored the irritated shivers running down her spine and spoke directly to Don Muraeni, "I've been mastering my unique magic and other healing spells under His Majesty King Revon Castilene's teachings. I can show you exactly what I can do right now if it pleases you, Don Muraeni."
Her tone was the perfect marriage between confidence and becoming. After a moment of consideration, the Don smirked.
"You have my attention, Miss...?"
Elise's pink lips grinned in satisfaction, "Call me Elise, sir."
-
By some miracle, Elise had convinced Don Muraeni and the rest of the room to regroup down on the resort's beach. The sun was already sinking into the horizon, painting the clouds burning orange and lavender. Azul never said a word during this whole transaction but he never strayed from Elise's side either. Any fuss their companions made went ignored by the Muraeni pair and by Don Leech as well. Roscoe Leech simply raised his hand to stop his boys and their mates from proceeding further onto the sand. The silent command said everything they needed to know: they were to stay close to him and not move a damn muscle unless told otherwise. Indigo had stayed in close proximity to Elise and Azul at the front of the pack in silence. He only spoke once the three of them reached the shore first.
"I trust you know what you're doing, princess..." he didn't sound so sure but the spark in Elise's eyes was undeniable. She leaned in to whisper to him before the others joined them.
"I do, Indigo. Don't worry."
"Well here we are. On with it then," Muraeni had never been very patient. He and Proteus strode right onto the beach as if they personally owned it. Elise only smiled, unruffled by the man's bluntness. Azul hesitated to let go of her hand as she walked towards the water.
"Of course, gentlemen. Let me show you my most successful experiment."
Elise walked into the water until she began to transform, searching the waves, waiting for something. A spiny fin suddenly surfaced and cut through the water. The visitor rushed towards her and circled around her once, not wanting to keep his mistress waiting. Elise smiled and turned back to the group so they could see the new arrival.
"Say hello, Spindle."
Indigo's eyes widened as quickly as his father's narrowed. Spindle gave them both a weary look but said nothing as he rose out of the waters. Had anyone been paying attention, they might have heard the curse that left Proteus' mouth over the wash of the waves.
"Spindle...? A cute name for a runaway I suppose," Muraeni scoffed, "Good to see you return to us...alive." That last word was shot in tandem right at Proteus with a deadly glare from the Don.
Elise pretended to not hear the obvious anger in his voice, "Not only is he alive, but his body is also better than new. Take a look."
She gestured for Spindle to come closer inland so everyone could see his full body, head to tail, and its abundant lack of scars. Upon closer inspection, even his skin and colors seemed more vibrant than before.
"When I found him, he was on the verge of death. With my own magic, I reversed the damage so much, it was as if it never happened. Tell me, Don Muraeni. Sirens have no doubt given you power and every drop of prosperity at your enemies' expense. But can they do this? You'd never have to worry about a rival getting the upper hand ever again. Your men would never have to suffer fatal injuries or ailments with me in your corner. Why...at the rate I'm progressing, the Muraeni bloodline may even outlive us all."
The prospect was deliciously tempting if not downright terrifying. Don Muraeni felt the possibilities burn in his brain. Still...he didn't get this far by being gullible.
"A fascinating pitch. But how do I know you aren't just pulling some elaborate scheme with my youngest here? I'm not too sure where his loyalty lies these days..."
Elise's back tentacles curled protectively around Spindle's tail on instinct but her confidence only bolstered, "Your doubt only proves what a capable man you are, Don Muraeni. I would never dream of making such a flimsy proposition on my word alone. In fact, I want to give you a proper example. Tomorrow, in fact..."
He rose a cynical brow, "All of a sudden your grand proposal must wait until tomorrow?"
Elise walked back onto the shore, changing back into a human, "I understand your skepticism, sir, but I assure you. It'd be more than worth your time. The senior students of Sacred Crown, myself and Luna included, are holding a special seminar on campus tomorrow to show our progress in our individual studies. I want to invite you, and Mr. Proteus of course, personally to see the investment you'd be making firsthand. No tricks, no empty promises."
Muraeni looked to Proteus for any hint of suspicion. The ray silently tapped his chin as he weighed the girl's words in his mind. The proof of Spindle's own skin was too good to be a trick. Proteus seemed ready to sink his teeth into this charming little octopus but Muraeni wasn't fully convinced...yet.
"You drive a hard bargain, sweetheart. But it'll take more than that to close a deal with me," the Don stared down his nose at the girl, challenging her one more time. Lucky for her, Elise expected this and planned accordingly. She simply turned to Indigo and reached out for him.
"Don Cerith, can you help me prove a point then?"
Indigo tensed for a split second before closing the distance between the two of them. He silently questioned Elise but didn't voice any doubts. If she said she knew what she was doing then he would trust her. He followed her lead as she beckoned him closer and leaned down so she could place her hands on his face. Elise took a breath, smiled at Indigo, and began to recite:
"Return to what you once were. Undo the harm done and try again. Second Chance."
Indigo's eyes widened as they stared into Elise's bright pools. From her fingertips, he felt magic flow across his skin like cool spring water. Before their eyes, his scars shrank and the skin resealed itself back to its unflawed state. Even after the magic served its purpose, Indigo could still feel its revitalizing remnants tingle across his skin like a soft breath. Elise removed a compact mirror from her pocket to show him his rejuvinated face, "Well how did I do, Don Cerith?"
Indigo felt a pang in his chest that could only be equated with finding something precious that had been lost, "Amazing..." he whispered. When he snapped out of his wonder and looked to his father, Indigo saw hesitation but not a single shred of doubt. Muraeni began to observe his son in the same calculating fashion he had with Elise earlier. After a few minutes of silent contemplation, he turned to Elise to look at her properly.
"I shall attend your little seminar tomorrow then, my dear. My only stipulation is that you remain here in our wing tonight. Alone. My boys will escort you to your campus tomorrow to ensure that you have enough time to prepare...do we have a deal?"
He extended a hand to her and only then did Elise notice just what an omnious limb it was, its long fingers covered in golden rings that looked both deadly and impressive. Elise took another deep breath and put her hand in his, "It's a deal, sir."
Indigo watched the handshake between the two of them and felt a twist in his gut. The same dread he felt deep down was painted all over his youngest brothers' face and less so on Azul's. Elise had one foot in the door of the lion's den. Muraeni seemed satisfied until he locked eyes with his youngest son, remembering that unfortunate loose end.
"Hm...his outward appearance is completely reformed. Does that count for any internal injury as well?" he vaguely asked Elise, keeping Spindle squirming under his cold gaze.
Elise frowned disappointedly, "When I observed him after the fact, his vocal cords seem to be in perfect condition, and yet he will not speak. He hasn't said a word since I took him under my care. It's so strange."
Proteus sneered at this delightful bit of news, "How unfortunate...the poor boy must be traumatized."
His father checked his watch as if he were stuck waiting in a subway, "A bonus really. He may not be as strong as his brothers but now that he's healed, he's in perfect condition to pick up where Cowrie left off. If tomorrow goes well, I shall have to throw in a special thank you for you, Elise."
The girl fought the urge to kick him in the groin right then and there and instead just smiled, "You're too kind, Mr. Muraeni, sir."
The man took the compliment as plain fact, showing no signs of flattery, "Proteus. Show Elise to her room. Preferably one close to mine."
The grin on the righthand man's face turned the octomaid's stomach, "Gladly, sir..."
"Wait."
Indigo was speaking to his father but physically made himself a barrier between Elise and Proteus, "I will take her, Father. It's only right that I thank her for her care."
Had anyone else said the same thing, it would have meant something far more...unsavory. Elise knew this wasn't Indigo's intention but judging from the looks on Muraeni and Proteus' faces, they took his words very differently. Proteus raised his brows in surprise, "My, my...seeking out a second mate already, Don Cerith? You are your father's son."
Elise felt a shockwave of heat hit her face as Indigo put a protective arm around her. His expression was devoid of amusement, "I don't need nor desire another mate. It's called having integrity, you perverted bastard."
Muraeni waved off the rising argument with a bored look, "Fine, Indigo. Just make sure your brothers don't get any ideas. They're far more carnally driven than you are."
Azul nearly bit his tongue having to stand by and endure all of these insinuations. Spindle looked like he'd bite of the legs of anyone who even thought about going into Elise's space with bad intentions. Elise looked over her shoulder at both of them, giving them a silent nod. Spindle's features turned serious as he suddenly dashed back into the water and disappeared but his rash exit didn't seem to alarm either Don Muraeni or his subordinate.
"We'll fetch him later. Indigo. Bring her."
Without any further pleasentries, Don Muraeni and Proteus walked straight past the Don Leech and his brood without so much as a glance. Elise started to call out to Azul but Indigo abruptly pulled her along with him as he followed after. Azul wanted to argue but held his tongue. He trusted Elise: she was brilliant and she had a plan. He just didn't like feeling so stuck on the outside of it all. The twins and Cerith sisters watched Indigo escort their friend back to the resort, feeling just as helpless.
-
The young Don Cerith didn't say a word as he and Elise stood behind his father and Proteus in the elevator. Occasionally the two men shared a word or two regarding some other business that Elise wasn't really paying attention to. Instead she quietly looked up at Indigo's freshly healed face. Indigo Cerith was very handsome, well-groomed and polished with a quiet, deadly air about him even now that his scars were gone. He definitely looked even more like his father but his eyes, as tense as they were now, were far more kind. Elise suddenly felt his strong gloved hand take her much more delicate one without turning his gaze down, silently promising to watch over her. The elevator doors opened and the four of them entered yet another long, empty hallway. The father returned to his room behind a regal set of double doors without a word to the rest of the party. Proteus released the two other Muraeni sons and commanded them to keep watch over their new guest, "Give the lady her privacy but also...make sure she doesn't wander off."
They looked a bit drained if not disoriented but the two brothers nodded as they regarded the protective glare coming from Indigo. "Stay outside her room at all times," he growled once Proteus entered his own room for the night, "Only I'm allowed inside her room until further notice."
He quickly opened a nearby door for Elise and followed in after her, shutting and locking the door behind them. Elise felt an immense wave of exhaustion that forced her over to the giant bed on shaky legs. Indigo gave her a moment to settle before kneeling on the floor in front of her with a deep sigh.
"I admire your courage, Princess, but...no I should be thanking you instead of lecturing you. Not just for this," he gestured to his face, "but for what you're trying to do for our family. You're the most incredibly reckless human I've ever met. Which is saying quite a bit."
Elise gave a shakey laugh, "I was already determined when Spindle told me what was going on but then...I met her. She was the one who rescued me from that storm so many years ago. I cannot let her stay trapped any longer."
Indigo had a look of understanding in his quiet eyes, "You call him Spindle now. It suits him. You rescued my sister and my brother. Now you're risking everything to save our mother."
He paused and clasped Elise's hands before bringing them to his lips, then his forehead. The action seemed so gentle and devout as if he were in the presence of a saint, "Thank you, Elise. You have my loyalty for the rest of our lives."
Warm tears sprinkled down her cheeks as she leaned down to kiss Indigo's hair, "That means  the world to me, Indigo."
-
The next day would be unforgettable for everyone across the campus for very different reasons. To most, it was another school event full of nervous energy for those perhaps feeling apprehensive regarding their presentations, or rather doing so in front of the entire faculty and their families. To the Leech brothers, Cerith sisters, and their two octopi: today was a chess match with no room for error. Each member in their place, waiting to move, as the day began. Luna was one of the first to present and if she had any unsettled nerves, no one would ever know. Don Leech with his Madam Leech on his arm, Don Muraeni, and Proteus were in the audience along with Indigo, his wife Ivy, and the Octavinelle trio. She had learned quite a bit from the short weeks of study but today, Luna focused on demonstrating the benefits of utilizing her portal magic specifically to enhance communication and transportation of imports/exports between the land and sea. That is, other ways to do so aside from the personalized method she made just for their crew alone.
Both the faculty and audience were impressed. She was congratulated by the Headmistress and given high marks by the rest of the teachers' panel right there on the spot. Floyd had gotten bored halfway through and zoned out, daydreaming about the cute future babies he and Luna were going to have, but still checked back in just in time to cheer on his girl at the very end. To the point where his father had to tell him to quiet down. Elsewhere in the crowd, Cowrie sat with the rest of her dorm and applauded her sister's achievements. She caught Luna's eye and gave her a genuinely proud smile in spite of all the inward stress.
There were a few other presentations that followed but soon enough, the Headmistress was introducing Elise to the crowd. The stage seemed to open up as Elise prepared to start. As she approached the podium, three volunteers entered the stage behind her, some with assistance from other students or medical staff. On the large screens surrounding the auditorium, Elise's full name and the following title of her presentation appeared: "Advanced Healing: Medical Studies in Personalized Magic."
Azul searched the crowd and sure enough in one of the VIP sections of the audience sat Reine along with her father, both looking rather eager to see Elise in action. There was another man sitting next to Revon Castilene that he did not recognize but he had very similar eyes to Elise herself. Azul ventured to guess that the regal gentleman was Elise's father which made him feel both very happy for Elise and very nervous for himself. Elise took a deep breath before turning her microphone on and smiled to the audience, thanking them for coming today. She also took a moment to personally thank her mentor for being in attendance today and for teaching her everything she now knew. Her mind was on autopilot as the rehearsed words flowed out of her mouth as if she were acting out a prepared role. She saw her friends in the audience, her father, Azul, and more importantly...Don Muraeni. He was there with his eyes locked onto her and waiting. Elise felt her adrenaline kick in as the true spectacle would begin any moment. This was more than an academic exhibition: this was a show, an auction curated for one specific patron and Elise had one shot to hook him.
"Alongside traditional healing encantations, I have mastered my own unique magic for the purpose of not just treating injury and sickness, but completely rejuvinating and rehabilitating my patients entirely. Starting with a case of optical first aid..."
Elise greeted  the first volunteer, a fellow Sacred Crown student who had been banged up during Magift practice. The girl removed the bandages put in place by the school nurse, who had been specifically told not to heal the following students with magic for this exact presentation and showed the audience the scratches and bruises on her arm. Elise very gently held the injured arm and asked that the faculty observe it up close first. The teachers did so, confirming for the audience that the injuries were legitimate. Elise thanked them and assured the student that while they might feel strange afterward, the process was entirely painless.
She held a hand just above the broken skin and recited her encantation. A wave of awe rose up from the audience as the girl's arm was fully healed in seconds. Cheers and applause came from her peers and the Cerulamare dorm as Elise walked the first volunteer to the stairs by the stage. She continued to explain how the magic worked in varying degrees. She even paused her succession through the volunteers to show how the magic itself could also be used to repair machinery, other tools, and even architecture: "While my own Unique Magic cannot be taught to others, there are common threads of magic that can be learned and utilized in similar ways. With the ingenuity of each individual mage, the future of healing for both people and technology will ensure better lives across the board."
Her third and final volunteer was an older gentleman from the island's city accompanied by a certified nurse. He had the most severe injuries consisting of a broken leg and even previously damaged skin and teeth. He sat in a wheelchair and Elise quietly thanked him for putting his faith in her before very carefully kneeling to place her hand on his cast. There were a few murmurs hovering about the crowd, seeming to be full of skepticism. Azul carefully looked at Don Muraeni out of the corner of his eye. The man's gaze was unwavering and completely fixed on Elise. His expression gave away nothing. On the other side of him, Proteus was watching Elise with a smirk of a predator, patiently waiting to pounce and its prey the moment it moved. Azul turned his attention back to the stage. He felt a flutter in his chest as he watched how careful, how gentle and precise Elise's movements were. Watching her work gave him the same sense of wonder that he had felt for years watching his grandmother and mother in their elements.
The enchantment left her lips and her magic wrapped around the man's leg and damaged skin with a soothing aquatic glow. The man entered a trance as the spell wrapped him in a half-cocoon of light. As it dispursed, the electric chill of its trickling energy spread through the audience causing a collective shiver. Even those in the very back of the room could see just how the man's skin was renewed and how even his teeth were brought back to near-perfect condition. There was a hush as the nurse used their own magic to remove the cast...and then no one could hear the man's astounded cry as he stood, not for the thunderous applause. She would no doubt pass with flying colors but Elise's true victory came when she locked eyes with Don Muraeni. He stood up and clapped.
She had done it.
Elise accepted the praise from her Headmistress and the faculty panel on her impressive display and once again thanked her mentor and the volunteers that had put so much faith in her before she left the stage. She barely reached the bottom step when she saw Indigo's two brothers waiting for her backstage, tucked in the shadows where no one else would see them. They said nothing. They didn't have to. Their father had made his decision and now it was time to pay up. Elise braced herself and tried to stand as tall as she could in their towering presence, "Lead the way."
-
The resort seemed like too obvious of a spot to finish their transaction. The lake was too risky. Even now that he had made up his mind, Don Muraeni was far too suspicious to let someone even think about catching him off guard. No the final meeting place for the exchange would take place in the city square outside the school. A neutral territory where no one could interfere and live to tell the tale. So here she was, Elise was brought directly to the large, mostly empty square save a few locals walking about. The Leechs were nowhere to be seen. Neither were the twins, or Azul, or the Ceriths except for Indigo. Don Muraeni, Proteus, and Junonia waited, seated at a nearby outdoor seating area as if they were frequenting a cafe during their stay. Indigo rose from his seat next to his mother to pull out an empty chair for Elise between the two of them. As soon as she sat down, she felt Junonia grab her hand from underneath the table. Her eyes were desperate but she dare not speak out of turn. The princess gave her the bravest smile she could muster in return.
"You performed splendidly as you said you would, Elise. Well done," Don Muraeni's serious tone had barely any warmth to it, "I appreciate you coming without a fuss. I assume you are ready to keep your side of the bargain?"
Elise nodded, "Yes, sir. As I said, I will trade my freedom for Junonia's and in exchange, I will pledge my loyalty to the Head of the Muraeni house and use my magic for his and his family's benefit."
"Please don't do this-" Junonia started to beg before her ruthless husband snarled at her.
"Shut up, Junonia. You've wanted out for so long and now your chance is here on a silver platter. Take the out before I change my mind."
Elise squeezed the siren's hand and spoke in kindness, "Please, Junonia. Let me do this so you can be together with your girls again."
"Smart girl. Now then," Don Muraeni snapped his fingers and Proteus produced a document that looked eeriely similar to the magical contracts that Azul could conjure, "I have my staff procure very special paperwork for situations such as this. Sign yourself over to me and let's be done with this already. As he was for Junonia, Proteus will be your main handler."
Elise eyed the omnious document and gave Muraeni and Proteus both a light chuckle, "I'm sorry? I think you misunderstood me...I said that I would pledge my loyalty and services to the leader of the family. Isn't that technically Don Cerith?"
The two men's faces fell for a brief moment as this girl coyly bat her eyes at them. She continued, "Don't misunderstand, gentlemen, I'm by no means backing out. But this is a binding contract and a magically infused one at that. Regardless, I take my freedom and the use of my magic very seriously so these things must be handled accordingly. Am I wrong?"
This girl was wickedly clever. Indigo felt his lips tug upward into a smirk as his father cleared his throat and answered in a forced tone to hide his irritation, "You are not. It may still be referred to as the Muraeni family but Indigo is the acting head currently in power and thus has the authority over all legal decisions, contracts, and arrangements in circulation. It doesn't matter in the long run, the result will still be the same."
Without waiting for permission, Indigo slid the document over to himself before biting into his finger. A bright red drop of blood bloomed on the tip before he pressed it onto the top line. Soon after, the name 'Indigo Cerith' wrote itself across the line in his own manifested handwriting. He then in turn slid it over to Elise and asked for her hand. She gave it to him and held her breath as he carefully pricked her finger for her. One quick sting later, she mirrored Indigo and pressed the finger to the bottom line. Elise watched her name scribble itself onto the contract. Her eyes widened as her surname did not spell out Coralette but Cerith. Elise Cerith.
"You now belong to me, Elise Cerith. The deal is done," Indigo said with a sigh that betrayed just how drained he really felt. The bottle that had once held Junonia was placed on the table as it swiftly crumbled into sand. She was free.
"There you have it," Muraeni's tone was a bit sour at the hiccup but either way, he got what he wanted in the end. He didn't bother looking in Junonia's direction as he waved her from the table, "Go. I'm sure Luna and Cowrie are crying in some corner waiting for you."
Indigo helped her up from her seat. Any argument waiting to be made was silenced as he hugged her one last time. He whispered something in her ear making her tear up but Junonia left the table and made her way across the square alone without looking back. Muraeni huffed grumpily before checking his watch again.
"Wonderful. We have much to do now that our resources have opened up tenfold. I've had quite enough of the land life. Proteus-"
Indigo aggressively cleared his throat before shooting his father a challenging look, "I think you've overstayed your welcome actually. Both of you."
His father's eyes sharpened dangerously, "Watch yourself, boy. I've allowed you some leeway by handing my title over to you but don't forget who's really in charge here."
For the first time since he could ever remember, Indigo's smile genuinely confused his father as he chuckled, "Yeah...about that."
Indigo snapped his fingers and his eyes glowed vivid blue, matching the mage stone ring he now wore on his dominant hand, "Abyssal Snare"
His father couldn't move fast enough as the ground underneath him rapidly sucked him down like quicksand until it resolidified, trapping him at his shoulders. He screamed in confused outrage at his other two sons who merely stood there staring down at him. Proteus pushed away from the table in a panicked scramble, showing genuine fear for the very first time. Unfortunately for him, he was doomed the minute he sat down at that table.
"Heart's Lyre!"
The ray yelped as his arms snapped to his sides as he tumbled forward. He hit the cobblestone ground hard with a pathetic thud that bloodied his nose. The predatory heel clicks that approuched him from another nearby table put more fear into him than anything else.
"Well, well. Look what I've caught in my net..."
"Oof, he's an ugly bastard that's for sure!"
Proteus coughed as a cloud of dust was kicked into his face followed by a pair of wicked giggles. He crained his neck the best he could in his state but immediately regretted it. Hovering over him were the very smug and vindictive Cerith sisters. Luna's eyes burned as she quickly tugged at the glowing strings tangled between her fingers. Proteus shrieked as the gesture dislocated one of his arms.
"Oh no no. Don't cry just yet, " Luna purred darkly, "I'm just a placeholder, unfortunately..."
Both the former don and Proteus searched the area wildly, completely baffled that none of the locals that had been milling around earlier were reacting to this blatant assault on them...only to realize that they were all just standing there watching it happen like it was some form of entertainment.
"Oh don't worry about them. They're just here to watch after being promised a show, " Elise said, still seated comfortably despite the chaos, "it's truly remarkable just how organized the Leech and Murae-excuse me-Cerith houses truly are when they work together."
It was then that the 'locals' dropped any and all disguise they may have had and Muraeni's temper shot through the roof. Each one was a member of either Roscoe Leech's gang or his! This had all just been some elaborate setup and he had been completely played by both his and his rival's own people.
"How the hell did you...?!" he sputtered as Indigo bent down to address him as he lay stuck in the ground, "And where did you learn that spell?!"
Indigo flashed the ring on his hand and gave it a loving look, "First of all, you can thank my wife for procuring this magestone for me, straight from her family's supply. Also that wasn't just a spell, it's my spell...fortunately, I had enough time to develop it before you dragged me out of school all those years ago. Furthermore, if you're wondering how so many people came to the conclusion to help ruin you, Don Leech is a very resourceful and powerful man. He taught me well. He should be waiting to tie up any loose, unguarded ends back home right about now, actually."
Venom didn't even scratch the surface of his father's fury. He thrashed trying to free himself while screaming obscenities at his own son. It was a rather sad sight actually. In the ruckus, Proteus was helpless to escape but his horror had just began as a different pair of feet confronted him. At first, there was no answer, no declaration, or accusation made. Instead, the feet just kicked the paralyzed ray over onto his back where he was faced with terrible karma. His copper red eyes were globes of fear as the young man standing above him was Spindle. In his hands was the enchanted dagger that Elise had been given to originally break her own curse. In his eyes were years of resentment bubbling to the surface and ready to come to a head.
"I'm setting things right and taking it back..." his voice was clear and terrifying.
The agonizing scream that ripped from Proteus as the dagger was plunged into his leg echoed throughout the square but the pain from the wound couldn't compare to the feeling of Proteus's very life force being sucked out of him along with the stolen magic. Muraeni watched in horror as his loyal servant began to age and wither as Spindle's magic returned to where it belonged. He was still alive but Proteus seemed more like a walking corpse now that he was powerless. Luna released her hold on him. He was far too weak to fight back much less escape now.
He coughed and roughly spat at Spindle, "You devious little shit!!"
Proteus dugged his gnarled hand into Spindle's leg but he was so frail that it took barely any effort for the young man to kick him off. The bottles that had contained his older brothers tumbled out of Proteus' jacket and turned to sand. The sisters and Spindle walked over to the shriveled ray and stood beside Indigo as he spoke to their father.
"Judging from how Proteus' bottles disintegrated, it's safe to say that his 'collection' has now been dissolved," Indigo enjoyed the color leaving his father's face a little too much, "so it would seem that all of your assets you had him collect for you are now null and void." The dethroned Don now understood what Indigo had meant by 'loose, unguarded ends'.
Indigo straightened up and checked his watch as he had seen his father do all day, "But don't worry. I'll make sure the next one is well taken care of, or rather, Spindle will."
Cold, desperate panic flooded every corner of Muraeni's brain. He couldn't move. He was outwitted and outplayed by his own blood and the connection with his rival's family that he had wanted to extort so badly. He cried out as Spindle's eyes began to glow, "ST-STOP! I gave you what you wanted! Your mother, your sisters, I can give you even more-"
"No thanks," Indigo cut him off bluntly, "That's all the time we have. Spindle?"
The disgraced father's angry maw was muzzled by his youngest's unforgiving grasp. The boy spared no words as his glowing pale eyes bore into the man's petrified expression. The pitch of his screams warped as his body twisted and shifted into a small mishapen polyp. What was left of Don Muraeni's parting shrieks were quickly silenced as a small glass bottle formed around him and sealed him away. Spindle grabbed the bottle and gave it a hard shake making his dwarfed old man smack his gross little head against the glass a couple of times. Cowrie cracked up at the sight and begged her brother to let her do the same before he pocketed it.
Indigo turned back to  Proteus who was being kicked and stomped on by his abused brothers. He waited a minute before stepping in.
"Alright, that's enough you two. Cut it out," he half-heartedly scolded them, "You two are still on my fucking list by the way..."
The two brothers quickly retreated away from their prey letting Indigo and Luna stand over the miserable husk. Indigo looked to his sister, "What do you think, Luna?"
The siren hummed as she glared down at the man that had tortured her and her family for so long. Seeing him like this, while completely well deserved, just seemed to take the fun out of vengence. Still, why waste a golden opportunity?
"Being bottled along with Step-father seems too kind...I bet the sharks are rather hungry after all the paces this cruel man has put them through for the past few years," her grin was merciless.
Indigo turned to the men that not only disguised themselves as island natives but secured the entire block to make sure any real pedestrians stayed away, "Gentleman, lend a hand if you will..."
In seconds the pitiful sack of bones Proteus had become was dragged away through some back alleys, away from the square, and out of sight before he could even hope to yell for help. Elise hadn't moved from her seat this entire time. She watched her new siblings at work, holding her breath until it was all over...and it was all over. She watched the four Ceriths finally let their guard down and actually enjoy the fact that they were together again. Indigo pulled Spindle into a relieved hug and said something to him that Elise couldn't hear but seeing the happiness on her friend's face was enough for her to know. The sisters quickly accepted the younger brother as well. Cowrie squealed as he not only hugged her but lifted her off the ground, happy to see that she too wasn't actually dead. They looked so genuinely happy...finally.
She suddenly felt a leather touch on her shoulder and a familiar smell of cologne that made her whip her head around. Azul Ashengrotto couldn't hide his smile from her even if he wanted to, "You know, I don't care for being left out of such an elaborate and dangerous plot at all, my love. But you handled yourself flawlessly...so I guess one time is acceptable. Just don't scare me like that again, Elise Coralette!"
Elise didn't even notice the twins arriving on the scene with similar complaints as she jumped up to melt right into Azul's arms, "It's Cerith now!" Before Azul could make another quip, Elise locked her eager lips onto his. Jade and Floyd decided to leave them be for once as they escorted 'Mama Cerith' back to her children. As the rest of her new family reveled in their freedom, Elise could only focus on the man in her arms. She rested her head against his shoulder as his arms wrapped securely around her.
"I'm ready to go back home," she whispered with a deep sigh, "I nearly forgot that we're still in school because of all this..."
Azul chuckled and kissed her head as he stroked her soft wavy hair, "Think of it this way, after everything you've accomplished-"
"We. Everything we've accomplished," she corrected. She was flattered but this was one hell of a team effort.
"-We, yes. The rest of the year will seem terribly boring," Azul had a point. Any academic stress was barely a threat after nearly selling her soul to a mob boss. Elise suddenly stood up and looked at Azul with a sad grin.
"Yes. But...I still need to finish my senior year so I can graduate and get my mage license. Meaning I'll be spending the rest of the year in the Rose Queendom."
Azul's mood suddenly took a nosedive. That's right. Elise was free as were Junonia and all of the Ceriths. She had become a mermaid again. But of course, Life just had to test his patience just a bit longer, didn't it? Well, he was a mature young man, and hell, he had waited this long!
"You'll do marvelously. After that, what will you do-"
"Elise..." Indigo suddenly interrupted the pair with a serious look in his eyes, "I think you and the others should return to the campus for now. Spindle and I need to help clean up here. Also...after you graduate, I'd like you to come live with Junonia, Spindle, Ivy, and myself at what will be the Cerith house. You are still one of us, after all."
Elise felt like her heart would burst. She had a future, she had a home! Azul felt a bit of relief knowing that she wouldn't be too far away. The relief didn't last once Indigo turned his eyes on the Octavinelle prefect.
"That is...until you get married, of course." He was talking to Elise but staring directly at Azul like a protective father sizing up his daughter's boyfriend. The pair had matching red faces at the implication. Azul now knew just who he'd have to go through to ask Elise for a proper courtship. He couldn't say he was entirely thrilled about it. The boy just grabbed Elise's hand and quickly followed after the eels back towards the school. He was too embarrassed to look back at Indigo who had a big smirk on his face.
Conversation flowed pretty easily between the two eel couples as the girls caught the boys up on the events they had missed, much to Floyd's annoyance. Azul and Elise hung back a bit behind the energetic quartet, Elise intertwining her fingers with Azul's gloved ones. She quietly giggled at his pink face and tucked a stray hair behind her ear.
"So...to answer your question, I want to open a clinic. Maybe collaborate with Luna as well. You're going to open up a proper Mostro Lounge aren't you?"
Her smile was brimming with excitement, it was infectuous. Azul felt his own passion stir in his chest, "Oh absolutely! I already have the blueprints and infrastructure all laid out. We start the process as soon as we become seniors. By the time we all graduate, Jade, Floyd, and I will have a real establishment up and running. Once Jade becomes the new Don Leech, he'll be very busy naturally but his support will only guarantee our success-"
Azul and Elise continued to talk about the future all the way back to the campus, swapping ideas and feeding off of each other's energy. Once they reached the gates, only one question was left unanswered...
"And after all that..." Elise mused, "I suppose then I can settle down and take a mate if the time is right. Yes...I think Elise Ashengrotto has a nice ring to it."
She said it so casually that Azul almost missed it. Or he would have had it not hit him like a freight train. His heart thumped in his chest wildly at the prospect. The desire, the intention had been resting in the back of his mind for some time now. Now that the dust had settled and the stars aligned, Azul felt ready.
"It does. It's a gorgeous name...and if you're willing to wait for it then so am I, dearest," Elise blinked owlishly at how unfrazzled he suddenly was. Not only that, Azul was removing a small, palm-sized item from his pocket, "Elise, I was going to wait to give you this later on but since we're on the topic..."
He opened his hand to her. In his palm was the spiral shell pendant that once held her voice. It had cracked once the curse had been lifted and became nothing more than a dull, damaged shell. Now after some clever care and polish, Azul presented it to her as a proper mating necklace: its cracks filled with gold and various-sized pearls adorned the surface, tracing the spiral shape elegantly. It was absolutely perfect. Her heartbeat pounded as Azul kneeled before her with a charming, loving smile.
"I would be honored if, in the future, you would become my mate. I cannot imagine a more perfect woman to spend my life with."
Elise felt like she could both faint and fly of her own volition at the same time. Her hands shook as she gently took the necklace and held it to her chest. She tried to speak but only a happy sob came out as she started to cry. She laughed and nodded enthusiastically before letting Azul put the necklace around her. She didn't even pay the cat calls from the eels any mind as her mate held her to him with a deep kiss.
This...was exactly what she had been waiting for.
-
The rest of the year passed at a blinding yet peaceful pace. Luna and Elise spent the rest of the year studying hard with their respective tutors. When it came time for winter break, everyone made a point to venture home and spend time with each other and their families before getting back to work. The two best friends graduated and quickly returned home to start laying down the foundation of their careers.
While it would have made more sense for Elise to inherit Madam Lorelei's position as the local sea witch, being her granddaughter-in-law and all, both Elise and Lorelei agreed that the honor belonged to Luna and Luna alone. She had earned it and would build a reputation just as polarizing as her mentor, later being called 'Madam Luna' by the locals. Elise had her own grand plan that quickly took off as soon as Indigo's reformation swept across the old Muraeni territory that was now called the Cerith District.
Junonia enjoyed a peaceful life and retirement from her siren days in her son, who kept his commitment as Don Cerith, and his wife in another home that Indigo had built in the same territory as the Muraeni mansion but in a much sunnier spot. The old mansion had been abandoned and eventually torn down. The only space that was retained was Proteus' old collection space. It was now empty save for one solitary bottle that Spindle personally guarded and kept locked in a vault. The other two older brothers continued to serve under Indigo but were constantly afraid that Spindle might trap them as well. Now that he had become Indigo's right-hand man, he had every authority to do so but still spent most of his energy looking after Elise, who he never strayed far from.
The Siren's Cove was shut down for good. The girls were either returned to their families or supported by Indigo to start new independent lives. Meanwhile, the building was gutted and rebuilt into Elise Cerith's medical clinic. Luna, of course, was more than happy to give referrals and help prepare and distribute medicines to supply her friend's business.
During their senior year, the Octavinelle boys stuck to their guns and developed The Mostro Lounge just as they had planned. While Jade inherited his father's role as Don Leech over time, Floyd stuck to what he was comfortable with: part-time head chef at the Lounge, part-time head of security and interrogation for his brother. Cowrie managed to stay ahead academically and entered her own internship as a senior during the same time as the boys. Once she became the new Madam Leech, her main focus would be supporting her husband and household, but at the same time, Cowrie Cerith desired something of her own. Studying under her sister or Elise had always been an option for her but instead, she surprisingly followed in Ivy's footsteps and acquired an internship at the Funebris magestone company. They had branches on land and under the Coral Sea for their unique pearl division. Cowrie took interest in the technical side of things but somehow attracted the attention of the marketing department as well.
To this day, Jade says that it was because she became even more beautiful once she turned eighteen. She went from being a petite, cute little sassy eel to blossoming into a nymph-like young siren that turned heads and broke hearts. It was awkward at first, mostly because of being in Luna's shadow for so long, but Cowrie quickly leaned into her alluring glow which quickly landed her a modeling/spokesperson career within the Funebris brand, eventually other Coral Sea brands, and even a few from the surface as well.
Once their lives, businesses, and careers took off and they all reached a point where they felt comfortable taking that next step, that's when the marriages started happening. Surprising no one, Floyd and Luna were the first ones - aside from Indigo and Ivy - to start having children. The entire Leech family was thrilled to welcome the first baby girl the couple was blessed with. And then the next. And the next. And the next. Eventually, Floyd and Luna had one son, who would ironically be the only child that would inherit his mother's siren genes, and then finally one more daughter. Either way, Narissa Leech was thrilled to have so many adorable little grandbabies right out of the gate. Roscoe Leech, though he'd never admit it, was extremely happy to have so many granddaughters.
For a while, Cowrie had worried that she wouldn't be able to have Jade's children after many failed pregnancies. Perhaps no matter how much they loved each other, they just weren't physically compatible. Just when Cowrie was about to give up hope, she contacted Jade in near hysterics when she found out that she was officially, fully pregnant with not just one baby, but two. A year after their nephew was born, Jade and Cowrie were blessed with twin boys. While they wouldn't reach their father's mammoth height/length, the boys did certainly take more after their father in their size which put a lot of strain on their mother while she carried them. However, in spite of the difficulties, Cowrie had her babies without any complications aside from her husband almost worrying himself to death. Between taking his father's place in running the Leech household and aggressively caring for the mother of his heirs, Jade was more exhausted than his mate.
As for Mr. and Mrs. Ashengrotto...
They married once a few different things happened: Azul had run the Lounge with booming success for about two years without any major losses, Elise had established a strong foothold in the community in both Leech and Cerith territory, and Azul had been granted Don Indigo Cerith's blessing to marry his adopted sister. There wasn't a huge ceremony, much to Mama Ashengrotto's outrage, but they did have an enormous celebration at both the Leviathan Club and Mostro Lounge respectively. After about two more years, Azul and Elise had a daughter that inherited her father's coloring and her mother's eyes. She was Azul's entire world, second only to his wife, and was absolutely adored by her grandmother, great-grandmother, and her eel uncles and aunties...and now that the two families that ruled the city were actually one big family...
Life under the sea couldn't be better.
---
Lazuli Ashengrotto could hear the jazz music from her father's lounge downstairs. She was turning fourteen today and preparing herself at her vanity for the elaborate party about to happen downstairs. She combed her long lavender-grey locks with one tentacle while she applied a small bit of color to her lips with another. Her father had fussed at her for wanting to wear makeup so soon but after many, many debates, they reached a compromise. His baby girl wanted to be just as beautiful as her mama so who was he to stand in her way?
"Oiiii Zuliiii~"
A rapid round of knocks sounded from the other side of the teenager's door just before opening. Never waiting for an invitation, Floyd's youngest daughter and child Juno swam in and wrapped her long teal-striped tail around her best friend.
"Let's go, let's gooo~ We can't get started without you and I'm STARVIIIINNGGAH..."
The young octopus just giggled as she pulled her wavy locks back with the final touches, "Alright, alright here I come."
Downstairs the Lounge had closed for a private event in which all friends and family were in attendance. All of her uncles, aunties, and cousins, and of course her grandmother who always insisted on catering for every single birthday party. And not just for her actual granddaughter but all of her eel 'grandbabies' as well. Between them and her business, Ursa Ashengrotto had her tentacles full.
Lazuli smiled at the usual chaos that came from these parties, why it had almost become a tradition. At one table sat her dear Uncle Don Jade Leech, Auntie Cowrie, and their twins that towered over their mother but would never dream of upsetting her. Unlike their father and uncle, Jet and Spinel Leech had clearer tells of who was who. Jet had the signature black streak in his teal hair and heterochromatic eyes just like his father: one yellow from Jade and the other blue from Cowrie. Spinel, however, did not inherit the dark strand like his brother, but his eyes were mirrored to Jet's. He also inherited his mama's gold freckles. The only matching trait the twins shared were the dark stripes on their tails and arms they inherited from Cowrie. It always made Lazuli think of a pair of raccoons. The boys watched their father closely as he discussed some sort of business with them as Cowrie doted on her niece, Lucine, that had swum over from another table. Lucine took after her mother in appearance and somehow came out with a far more demure and shy personality compared to the rest of her siblings.
Floyd and Luna's family took up one of the larger booths. Their eldest daughters Marissa and Cyane sat on either side of their parents. Marissa was the spitting image of her Grandma Narissa, thus the name, and held herself in similar elegance. Cyane was also very lovely but had her father and grandfather's sleepy eyes that often made her look a bit pissed if not threatening. Clustered among them was the only son and second youngest child, Calico Leech, who looked every bit like his mother with her same black hair and warm golden cream coloring. He was destined to be just as tall as his father though and already had to tuck his long tail underneath him to keep it out of the way.
Uncle Don Indigo Cerith and Auntie Ivy had just arrived with their own two children: Cobalt, their eldest son that could be his father's twin save for the fiery eye color he got from his mother, and Elsie, the youngest daughter who was a perfect combination of her mother's green color and her father's darker patterns. She was also named in honor of her Auntie Elise. Her Uncle Spindle arrived with them, escorting Junonia who was immediately ambushed by all of her enthusiastic grandchildren.
Lazuli made the rounds to greet everyone before noticing that her parents were nowhere in the room. She smiled knowingly and snuck over to one of the outdoor balconies. Her parents were very busy and industrious octopi so whenever they could squeeze in a private moment for just the two of them, they absolutely seized the opportunity. Their daughter found them enjoying the view and sharing a loving kiss or touch as she normally did. It used to gross her out how lovey-dovey her parents were but now it barely phased her. She cleared her throat to announce her presence.
Azul and Elise Ashengrotto turned to their little darling with warm smiles. "There's my princess!" Azul cooed to her. Lazuli was also accustomed to her father's abundant affection and soaked up every single drop of it. She jetted over and threw her arms around her father with a happy squeal. Elise's heart warmed at the sight of her husband and daughter. She stroked her girl's silky hair with a doting smile, "Happy Birthday, Lazuli, my darling."
Lazuli turned and hugged her mother before beaming up at her with matching turquoise eyes, "Are you happy, mama? Daddy?" She turned back to Azul as her arms stayed around Elise. She had become very in tune to her parents' moods from a young age. When they were happy, truly happy, they seemed to shine and Lazuli was convinced it was because they had so much magic. So every day, at the very beginning, she always asked: are you happy?  And when they were, they said...
"Absolutely."

I have been having this thought for days now and want to know what you think.
This is before ptm Jade and Yuu are together, it's Also before Riddle and Floyd are together.
Mama and Papa Leach are coming to visit there boys at school and of course they know all about Yuu and Riddle who know nothing about them. I imagine shenanigans would insuu. Like Mama and Papa Leach trying to set up there boys and just embarrassing them in general.
Tumblr media
Their parents are very perceptive, and they know their own sons quite well. Despite their best efforts to hide it, and thanks to the twins' proclivity to embarrassing the other whenever possible, they both know specifically who their sons are fond of.
Mama Leech loves picking fun at Jade for his shyness with his crush. Granted, he's much more like her when it comes to interacting with the subject of his affections: coy, quiet, and sly. Waiting for the right moment to strike. In her case, it was a strike of jealousy that spurred her to claim her husband by kidnapping him and dragging him home. Though, it can't really be called a kidnapping when he was so eager to let her take him hostage.
But she notices how shy Jade is around Yuu, something that no one but those closes to him would notice. To others, he's his same polite, maybe a bit mean, self. But to her, she can see how gentle he is with Yuu, how his gaze lingers on their form longer than considered polite, and how his lips quirk up every so often with them. It's cute, but boring! She's wondering why he doesn't just pick them up and toss them in the sea to take home like Chinese take out. Just, swoop them up! Mama Leech forgets that that's not necessarily a custom for humans (or a good chunk of merfolk to be honest).
Jade knows what his mother thinks of romance, and her habit of becoming jealous. So he's not keen to let her around Yuu, especially considering the numerous amount of friends and general attention they get from others at NRC. In her mind, Jade should make a statement in front of everyone that Yuu would appreciate. After all, he must have studied them like she did her husband, so he must know them very intimately and what they like! But if he refuses? Well, time to take things in her own hands and start making offhanded comments about how fond Jade is of them, how much she raised him to be a doting partner, and that their home under the sea can just be soooo lonely! She wishes that he'd bring home a sweet partner to fill up the space, just like them :).
On the other side, it shouldn't come as a surprise then that Papa Leech is much more like Floyd: outspoken, attached, teasing, but ultimately won't make the first move. As much as he liked to chase after his wife and take over her attention, Papa Leech wouldn't make the move to make her his. Instead, he wanted her to chase after him, and was very excited when she kidnapped him for herself. It was practically a dream come true! Floyd is very similar, in that he likes Riddle's attention and reactions on him as often as possible. He's always been fond of excitable and expressive things, and Riddle (though not a thing) is one of the most expressive and eye-catching people he's ever met. Plus, he's so red! Floyd never knew how brilliant the color red could be, the color muted under the sea. Riddle has him quite enamored, though he's quite unaware.
Papa Leech thinks it's funny that Floyd can be so outspoken and social, and yet his crush have no clue that he's in love. Even more so after her got beat up by Riddle! You're telling him that the tiny classmate of yours that tossed you across the room on orientation was not only this tiny thing, but that he did that and didn't immediately claim Floyd as his mate? Humans are so strange in their courting customs. Papa Leech is just as “tactful” as his wife, funny enough, making small comments to Riddle about how much Floyd talks about him, how he's so impressed how determined he is, how strong he is, etc. Ironically, Papa Leech is Floyd's best bet in getting Riddle to fall for him, as Riddle tends to just assume the worst intentions from Floyd. But hearing how…sincere Floyd is, and the embarrassed look and pink cheeks on his face as he tries to get his father to stop, Riddle might be inclined to think more of Floyd's actions.

Have a doodle of mama Leech because I still can't decide how I want her to look!! ✨
Also have some headcanons I created for her just because:
Name: Viridia Leech Age: younger than she looks Height: ~7ft in human form, ~14ft in mermaid form Likes: her family, negotiating, high fashion, spontaneity Dislikes: shrimp Appearance: Elegant, charismatic, but by no means delicate, she is a gorgeous mermaid with olive eyes and long, wavy teal hair. As a human, she stands just under a half foot or so from her husband and prefers to wear long dresses, pant suits, and sun hats when on land. Her nails are always sharp and lacquered, her lips painted red, and on both ears is a pair of studded sturgeon scale earrings to match with her boys. Personality: Described as a bit of a worrier, Jade and Floyd's mother keeps in contact with her sons every day while they are on land. Her messages are often brief (except on birthdays) and in her refined manner of speaking, she even refers to her sons as "Mr. Jade" and "Mr. Floyd" (for security purposes). It is clear she misses Jade and Floyd dearly and frets over their well-being, though of course she has every reason to given the nature of their family's work. To Viridia, her children are her "treasures"; every bit as rare and precious as the gems they were named after (fluorite and jadeite, respectively). There is absolutely nothing she won't do to ensure not only their survival, but also their happiness. She notoriously spoils them with luxurious gifts, expensive clothes, and fancy accessories the likes of which most merfolk never see. To that end, Viridia is a fiercely protective mother and while she trusts her son's abilities, she won't hesitate to rip apart anyone who dares to lay a hand on them.
Similar to Jade, Viridia's kind exterior belies her manipulative nature; she is excellent in communicating and connecting with people and therefore adept at learning their weaknesses. Sterling, her husband, often relies on his wife's approachable demeanor when handling his most complicated clients. Patient and poised, she acts with the precision of a surgical razor to get what she wants.

The Mistress of All Evil ( Grany Draconia)
part 3
It isn't every century Maleficent receives a summon from the ancient mirror, so her un-queenly haste to hurry to see to what lied on the other end of the mirror was excused.
What she didn't expect on the other end was a little elf ling, napping. Seven summers old at most she shouldn't be left unattended , biting back the urge to flinch Maleficent analyzed her sudden urge to coddle the dainty thing and the urge to smite her careless guardians, the feeling was not dissimilar to the one she felt around her Malleus, but it was a feeling she'd ever thought she could experience around anyone else.
"Unnerving isn't it? she does that to you."
Drawled out a voice Maleficent thought she'd never hear again, turning to see a rugged man she never thought she would see again, walk past her to scoop up the child.
"Scar"
"welcome to the fold old friend"
Tumblr media
The way that...welcoming was said unsettled the queen of thorns, but from what she had gathered so far, this was their fabled flower, and from the faint " off with your head in the distance" it seems that all seven of them have now been assembled.
Joy.

*~Period Drama~* Saturday
Tumblr media
A/N: So I sneezed, which is why this is out before the RSA series chapter lol. But I'm gonna have a lot of fun with this series I can feel it. Word Count: 4.7K (Wow, around the same as the last part) Warnings: Period mentions, Blood mentions (Drawing blood) She/They OC Pronouns Pairings: Azul/Reader (Poly), Jamil/Reader (Poly), Platonic relationships with Floyd, Jade, Ortho, and Crewel. Enjoy! Start, Part 2 (Here), Part 3 (Heartslabyul), Part 4 (Savanaclaw), Part 4.5 (Diasomnia pt.1), Part 5 (Diasomnia pt.2), Part 6 (Pomefiore), Part 7 (Scarabia)
Tumblr media
Jamil, Azul, Jade, Floyd, Grim, Ace, and Deuce stood outside of ramshackle, some of them sitting on the wooden steps. Waiting as patiently as they could for Crewel to give them a final order. No more than twenty minutes had passed before Crewel opened the front door. He looked their group over, coming to some sort of choice before he smacked the palm of his hand with his crop, “Octavinelle pups, you stay. The rest of you go on with your day.” “Wait, what!?”
“Sensei!”
“Why does he-”
Crewel smacks his palm again. The crack somehow perfectly balanced with the harsh shush he gives them, quieting the protesting group instantly. His glare softens at seeing their crestfallen faces, “Yuu will be in contact. I need to gather up the needed potions and resource materials. But for now, They’re resting and it would be best to have someone in the house with them. Both to get them whatever they need and to keep unwanteds out. Ergo, the Octavinelle mutts.”
Jamil frowns but doesn’t speak up. He knew that he would probably have damage control to do in Scarabia. Najma most likely called Kalim in confusion from his call, not entertaining the thought of actually waiting on him to explain his bizarre question. Kalim would have only half the story and no context which was worrying enough, so he was clearly panicking and amassing the other Scarabia students for a witch hunt. He should stop at Scarbia before going back to basketball practice…
Deuce steps forward, imaginary puppy ears drooping as he mutters out, “Is Yuu at least okay? I didn’t see much, but it looked like a lot of blood…”
Sighing, Crewel walked down the stairs, gently patting Deuce on the head as he passed, “They’re fine, pup. I’m going to gather the Shroud boy and then prepare a proper medical report. As far as we should be concerned, this is completely natural for Yuu, if a bit painful. He reached into his coat, pulled out his pipe kit and started to fill it as he walked away, “But for now, Azul, Floyd, and Jade are to look after them until I come back. You other pups are to return to your scheduled activities and tell no one about this.”
Ace looked to the side nervously, thankfully unseen by anyone before he nodded and started to make his way down the path behind Crewel. Deuce sighs but nods, calmed by the info that Yuu was okay at least. He jogs down the path after Ace, none of them are really surprised when muffled yelling could be heard a little down the way.
Azul looked out of the corner of his eye, catching Jamil giving him an intense glare. He knew Jamil was upset at the turn of events, the very fact Azul was picked over him would be enough to anger the Scarabian student. Let alone being picked by their lover’s pseudo-father figure as their keeper. He turns entirely to him, smiling and opening his mouth to pacify his lover-in-law before Jamil interrupts him.
Jamil turned his back on Azul, walking down the path to get back to campus. He quickly scooped Grim into his arms, ignoring the monster hissing and fighting his grip, “Just make sure they eat something high in iron.” That was all he said before he was also gone from view, walking past the row of trees acting as a fence of the property.
Silence passes the three students before Azul squeals, smiling wide and pumping his fist, “YES! He trusts me! You both saw that! He gave me his faith that I would tend to our lover. It’s only a matter of time before I can talk him into transferring!”
Floyd rolls his eyes, walking back into the house with a snickering Jade behind him, “Either you take care of my Shrimpy or they’ll kill you themselves…” he mutters under his breath, pout turning into a frown as the scent of blood hits him harder inside.
Jade’s own mirth decreases at the smell. He hums looking around the dorm. Yuu wouldn’t want the windows open, not to mention the smell would simply travel over the campus. The last thing they needed was Malleus smelling Yuu’s blood in the air. Seven could only think of the disaster that would bring. He looks up the stairs, only half listening as Azul enters the dorm to bicker with Floyd.
“-fact you would insinuate I wouldn’t take care of my pearl is insult enough, Floyd.”
“Ehe~? I just said Shrimpy wouldn’t let you slide with shitty service. You scared of a little blood Azul~?”
“I will dock your pay-”
“I’ll go sit with Yuu, keep them company.” Jade smiled over his shoulder, already walking up the stairs. He pauses halfway up the stairs, tilting his head at their stares, “Unless I’m allowed free range of their meal?”
Floyd instantly perked up, rushing to the kitchen whining with a glare at his brother, “No way! You’ll make some weird mushroom thing that’ll make Shrimpy even sicker!”
Azul stays for only a moment before he follows Floyd, giving Jade one last look, “Do make sure my pearl is in good condition. If you can wake them up, ask if they would like a bath.”
“Will do.”
Jade parts with Azul, walking onto the second floor and toward Yuu’s room. He rested his hand on the doorknob and breathed in deep. Yuu’s blood was interesting, he’s always found it to be since he first smelled that foreign flora that no one could place. But that didn’t mean he wanted to smell it so strongly. He took in another deep breath in hope if he smelled it thoroughly enough the tightness of worry would loosen in his chest. Once calm he creaked the door open, knocking on it gently as he peaked his head in, “Yuu, I’m coming in.”
A simple groan answers him. That was acceptance of entry enough for him. He closes the door behind him and walks to sit in the armchair, moving it just a foot or so closer to the bed. Yuu had rotated since he last saw them. Now lying on their front with the blanket uncovered to their calves, arms wrapped around a pillow and eyes closed. If it wasn’t for the brief moments of their eyebrows creasing in pain, Jade would think they were perfectly fine.
A few minutes pass before Yuu opens their eyes, vision slightly hazy from pain, “Hi.”
“Hi.” Jade smiles, leaning forward to poke their cheek in greeting, “I’m guessing whatever is going on is quite painful?”
“Very much, yes.” They groan, snuggling into their pillow, “Periods are a bitch.”
“Azul said something about that. ‘Period’. That’s what it’s called?” When Yuu confirms, he leans back into the chair, humming under his breath. Now that things had calmed down, Jade couldn't help but call the whole scenario interesting. Finding differences in biology was always a fascinating venture, “Tell me about it.”
“Are you sure? It’s kinda gross and like…as you saw, pretty bloody.”
Jade chuckles, raising a hand to cover his mouth coyly, “I already said I want to know! Please don’t tease me in such a way!” He preens, feeling a small wave of pride at hearing Yuu laugh.
“You’re so weird…Alright.” Yuu angled herself to look over to Jade, raising an eyebrow, “What do you wanna know?”
“Is the bleeding just the first step of it? Do you gain internal injuries to produce the blood? Is the pain a result of-”
“I’m gonna just…stop you right there…” Yuu took a moment, trying to not laugh again, not wanting to change their towels yet, “So…Periods are weird because I feel like I'm injured but it’s all natural because of hormones are whatever.”
“Your hormones make your internal organs stimulate injuring themselves?” he takes a moment to look around the room. Standing up to grab a notepad and pencil from Yuu’s desk before returning to the armchair, "We have basic health classes in middle school. But I've never heard of hormones causing internal bleeding."
“Eh…more like the hormones jumpstart a refreshing process? Not so much internal bleeding.”
Jade smiled wide, his pencil poised to write down every word they said, "Do tell.”
Tumblr media
Azul texted Crewel to bring an iron supplement potion along with the pain potions. Yuu didn’t have any food besides snacks and her childish cereals, how Floyd managed to find enough items for a seafood alfredo was nothing short of a miracle by Azul’s standards. Sure it wasn’t high in iron like Yuu needed, but it would be warm and something for her to eat.
They were still worried. How could they not be? Their dear friend was a floor above them basically bleeding out from an intimate area that shouldn’t be bleeding. Crewel’s behavior had calmed most of their nerves, Yuu strangely wouldn’t lie to Crewel nearly as much as she would any other teacher. And Crewel wouldn’t be half as calm if something had actually happened. But as Floyd had said to him, ‘It still felt gross’. All of them forced to twiddle their thumbs and wait for Crewel or Yuu to give them all the facts instead of just dismissing their horrific theories.
Floyd scooped the pasta dish into a bowl, as Yuu preferred it, shoving a fork in it and walked past Azul. He didn’t bother to listen to Azul tell him to stop and wait for Yuu to get up from her nap or call for them. He didn’t want to. The only reason he cooked instead of Jade was because his brother couldn’t be trusted in a kitchen alone without shoving mushrooms into something. At least not while Azul was as distracted as he was. But he was just as worried as the others, Yuu was his Shrimpy. He’d share with his brother and Azul. But as far as he was concerned he was doing just that, sharing. Shrimpy was his to look after for as long as she hung around him. And he was already in a bad mood from earlier thinking he had failed her.
“Floyd, Yuu might still be sleeping, we shouldn’t bother them.” Azul scolded him, trying to keep his voice down while making sure it carried a harshness.
“Don’t care. I wanna check on Shrimpy…”
Azul kept quiet before he sighed. He pulled out his handkerchief, if Yuu was still sleeping he could cover the bowl so they could eat later. It would be lukewarm at best, but it’d be clean and ready for Yuu when they woke up, “Fine. Let’s go check on them…”
Floyd didn’t bother to knock, opening the door one-handed and ignoring Azul’s groan behind him, “Shrimpy~, you awake?”
Yuu rolled over, smiling with an edge of weariness, and waved, “Hi Floyd~.”
“Shrimpy!” Floyd nearly dropped the bowl onto the bed sheets, moving to hug and squeeze his best friend. The scent of blood was still strong but just knowing that his friend was okay was enough to keep him in a positive mood. Pulling away, he passes the bowl properly to them, “You doing alright?”
Yuu smiles as Azul moves quickly to place his handkerchief onto her lap, a small comment on the bowl being hot. She kept eye contact with the cecaelian until Azul turned away with a blush. But, she does place the bowl on her lower stomach, the heat helping more than the boys knew, “Thank you for the food. And no, I’m in pain.”
Floyd’s relaxed expression instantly changes, dropping into a frown and downward brows, “Why? What happened to make you bleed like this Shrimpy? If we were in the ocean you’d be a chum magnet…”
Jade looked up from his notes, “Muscle tension.”
“Huh?” Both Azul and Floyd turned to him in confusion.
Jade taps at the notepad, showing the lines of neat handwriting with various questions sprinkled around it, “Yuu’s body is physically pushing the blood out by contracting their pelvic muscles. The involuntary spasms are causing some intense muscle cramps.”
Azul frowns, his hand moving to press on their stomach, almost trying to feel the sensation, “When will it stop? Losing this much blood can’t be good for you…”
Jade looked over his notes, sighing at his findings, “Yuu says this lasts four days normally for them.”
“Four days?” Both Azul and Floyd exclaimed, worry evident in their voices.
Yuu smiled, leaning against their pillows, “Seven is the standard.”
Azul whips his head back to Yuu, eyes wide and glasses nearly falling off his face, “Seven!?”
“How do you stop it?” Floyd looked the most distressed out of all of them, simply looking at Yuu’s lap with poorly veiled concern.
“Oh, Azul, you’ll love this.” Jade beamed, eyes reading over his writing, “This is apparently happening because Yuu didn’t get pregnant.”
Floyd turned to look at Azul, voice deadpan, “Azul, hurry up and knock Shrimpy up so we don’t have to deal with this.”
The scandalized look on Azul’s face makes Yuu burst into laughter, blood be damned. The cecaelian stuttered out a rambled form of scolding and excuses on how he couldn't 'Knock Them Up' and how it was no one’s business what he and his lover did in the bedroom. He only grew more flustered seeing the smiles on the twins' faces, knowing they were internally mocking him and his distressed state.
He snaps his fingers, a golden contract appearing beside him. Gripping it fiercely, he points to the four names signed at the bottom, "In any case! Per our official ‘Quad Agreement’, only Draconia is allowed to impregnate Yuu and that's not even in effect until they’ve both graduated!" With another snap, the scroll was gone, leaving Azul huffing and crossing his arms.
Yuu quiets their laughter, reaching out a hand to hold Azul’s, " Aw~. Are you mad you can't give me an octo baby?"
"I'm mad because you're in pain and the one way to stop this is something we can't do for years!" Azul does loosen his arms, both hands coming to cradle their outstretched one, "You've been acting odd all week before this whole bleeding mess even started. We were worried…"
Floyd pouts, resting his head on Yuu's shoulder, uncaring of how far he had to bend, "You punched me for trying to give you a piggyback ride, Shrimpy. Really hurt my feelings."
"You had seemed quite lethargic the past few days." Jade gave a worried smile, tone clear in just how concerned the past events had made him.
Yuu looked at all of them in shock, looking at the slowly cooling bowl of pasta before they covered their mouth. The room was silent until Yuu closed their eyes and tried to fight back the whimper threatening to leave their throat.
"...Yuu-"
"You guys care so much about me…so much…" Yuu lets go of the bowl, both hands fanning at their face as their eyes well up with tears, "And I've been such a bitch to you." Their voice cracked and slid into a high-pitched wail as the tears started to fall.
Jade’s eyes widened, his mouth opening in a silent gasp as he quickly shared a panicked look with Azul, " O-oh, oh no."
The cecaelian babbled, stuttering under his breath and hovering his hands over Yuu’s body. He wasn’t sure if Yuu wanted to be physically comforted, or even touched, “Yuu? What’s wrong, are you in more pain? Do you need me to call Crewel!?”
Floyd hesitantly pats at Yuu’s head, not wanting a repeat of being sucker punched in the face the last time he touched an upset Yuu, “There, there Shrimpy. Just eat your food…”
Still crying, taking shaky breaths while gathering a collection of noodles and seafood on their fork, “You guys are so nice to me. And I’m a bad friend…”
Jade was subtly leaning away, pressing his back deeper into the chair as he eyed Yuu with mild suspension, “No…You’re a perfectly good friend to us, Yuu.” Hormonal changes would explain Floyd’s notice of Yuu’s scent being 'off'. He assumed the different levels had only affected their body as they had stated. But it seemed their emotions were also being affected. A moody Floyd is something he grew up with, he knew every tell Floyd could give. A hormonally moody Yuu was new and dangerous territory as far as Jade was concerned.
Even with their reassurance, Yuu’s tears wouldn’t stop. The three males grew more uneasy, simply watching their friend bleed on her bed and eat lukewarm pasta while she softly cried. They shared a look between the three of them before Azul stepped forward, a nervous smile on his face while he gently caressed her hair.
“It’s…it’s ok my pearl.”
Yuu looked up, sniffling pitifully before pressing her head into his hand, “I’m sorry I’m so mean to you…”
Azul chuckles, pressing a kiss to their cheek before pulling away, “It’s ok. I will admit, I do like when you’re a bitch.”
The sweet air was gone in a second. Yuu’s crying stopping as though a switch was flipped. They glared up at Azul, “Did you just call me a bitch!?”
“...” Azul looked to the side then back to her, pulling his hand back, “I-”
“So you think I’m a bitch!?”
“No?” The confusion in his voice was clear. He looked at the twins who were just as puzzled, the two eel-mers quickly shrugging at his silent question as to what he did.
They also had no clue how to proceed. Yuu would normally either let them in on, or at least make their goal clear when they toyed with Azul. But this sort of rapid-fire mood change was not in their MO. It was even more so than Floyd could keep up with.
Yuu turned back to their pasta, tears coming back full force as their anger disappeared, “You’re lying to me…”
“...Would you feel better if I thought you were a bitch?”
“What is that supposed to mean!?”
Tumblr media
Hours later, Floyd opened the door, disheveled and pouting at Crewel and Ortho, “Knifejaw…Hurry up and fix Shrimpy. They’re really mean like this and I’m sick of it.”
Crewel raised an eyebrow, walking into the dorm and waving a hand to send Ortho up before him, “Are they? More so than normal?” He said it with a jovial air, teasing his student since his own moods were the things of nightmares.
“Yes. If I felt like it, I would beg. I can’t handle them like this…”
“...”
Well, that was concerning… Floyd followed Crewel back up the stairs. Opening Yuu’s bedroom he realized that Floyd wasn’t kidding. Next to a standing Ortho Yuu sat on the bed, now cocooned in one of their blankets in Azul’s lap. Tear tracks on their cheeks and angrily sniffling between hand-fed forkfuls of pasta. Azul was sweating, oozing a nervous energy as though he were defusing a bomb and not feeding his lover. Jade sat in the far corner, chair pressed against the wall as far back as it could be and furiously writing notes.
Ortho beeped, eyes showing he was smiling under his mask, “Body scan complete! No external injuries are to be found!” He leaned forward, wrapping his arms around Yuu and resting his head on them, “I’m so glad you’re ok, Prefect Yuu!”
Floyd huffs from the doorway, glaring at the display, “Oh, he can hug you but I get punched if I try?”
Yuu glares, eyes just peaking through Ortho’s flaming hair, “I could never hit Ortho, he’s baby.”
“Prefect Yuu is right, I am baby.” the smug tone was just barely heard through Ortho’s normal frequency of cheer. Looking up his bright yellow eyes meet Yuu’s, “Oh! Just so you know, Ace told the rest of us what was going on in our group chat. Though Crewel-Sensei told me that no one was supposed to know. In his defense though, the timestamps show Ace gave the information before Crewel-Sensei gave the order to not tell anyone.”
Yuu looks over to their phone on the nightstand, groaning at the wall of texts they’re sure is waiting for them, “God damn it.”
Sighing, Crewel waved his hand, “This is very cute, but Ortho you’re here for medical purposes. Let’s not get distracted.”
“Right!” Ortho stands up straight, holding out a hand as his other arm morphs to produce a syringe. “Prefect Yuu, may I have your arm to take a blood sample?”
Even though it looked like that was the last thing Yuu wanted to do, they managed to remove their arm from the blanket cocoon to place in Ortho’s waiting hand. Looking away while Ortho set to work finding a vein.
Crewel walked to the bed, grabbing a potion from his coat and uncorking it in one fluid movement, “How are you feeling, pup?”
“Like I’m in pain. The same as two hours ago. What kind of fucking question-” A fork full of pasta and sauce was shoved into their mouth, cutting them off from cussing out their teacher/father. Azul smiled timidly when Yuu’s glare snapped to him. Muttering through their food as they chewed, “Don’t you ever fucking try to silence me with pasta, again.”
Waiting until Yuu had swallowed and taken a breath, Crewel shoved the opening of the potion bottle to Yuu’s mouth and forcibly made them drink it, taking care to not justle their arm while Ortho drew blood. He adored his pup. But he was not going to sit idle and let them bark at him like they had the right, “That’s nice sweetie. Take your medicine, you’ll feel better.”
He only let up once the flask was empty, pulling away and placing the glass back into his coat. Yuu’s glare slowly softens, tense body finally relaxing in Azul’s nervous hold. They sigh, dropping their head into the crook of Azul’s neck, nosing into the flushed skin before pulling away to rest their cheek on his shoulder, “Sorry…about threatening your life and stuff. Forgot how bad cramps were…”
Azul, slowly wrapped his arms around them, nuzzling into their hair, “It’s…ok? So long as you’re feeling better now. Were you truly in that much pain?”
Floyd hums from the doorway, folding his arms, “I guess I can give you a pass then. I don’t like being in pain either, it’d make me just as crabby as you’ve been…”
Jade nodded from his corner, but made no move to come closer, “And it’s been nearly 6 hours since the supposed start of all of this. Does the pain really last the whole cycle?”
Yuu nods, “Yeah…I normally take pain meds when I realize it’s started so I don’t feel the worst of it. I take another dose either daily or just when I feel the first dose wearing off. But I didn’t have any potions in the house so I was gonna nap it off until Sam got my order.”
“All done!” Ortho spoke up, the vial of blood being placed in a secondary pouch for safety. Morphing his hand back, he placed his hands on Yuu’s lower stomach, tingles of something pulsing from Ortho’s fingers as he performed another scan, “In the most scientific phrasing you can, tell me what’s going on so I can add it to your file.”
Without missing a beat, Yuu answered, “My vagina is internally peeling and the liquidated lining is being pushed out.”
Ortho closed his eyes and stood up straight, arms resting at his sides. Turning around he walked out of the room, brushing past Floyd and closing the door behind him.
“...” Azul looked at Yuu, the horror from earlier that day returning to his face full force, “Your what is what now!?”
The sound of Jade’s pencil scratching at the notepad starts up again, muttering under his breath about needing more paper. Rushing to the desk and flipping through notebooks for a clean page.
Floyd simply looked sick by the door, the visual refusing to leave his mind.
“You know…” Crewel chuckled under his breath, more annoyed than mirthful, “That would have been a wonderful nugget of knowledge to have two hours ago.”
“I would have loved to not be in pain for half the day, but we don’t all get the raisin butter, do we?”
“Yuu.”
“It is really that different here?”
“Does blood come gushing out of female anatomy for a week? No, no it doesn’t. Yes, it’s different, puppy.”
Yuu sat quietly, looking down before raising their gaze back to Crewel, “I should probably learn more about the biology of this place…”
Crewel shook his head, annoyance clear in his expression while he pulled out folders from his bag, “Yeah you really should.” muttering under his breath about a ‘Dumb adorable dog’ as he slapped the papers on the bedspread, “So to start, there is a similar process-”
Floyd, opens the door, “Yeah, I’m leaving I’m bored and kinda freaked out.”
“Bye, Floyd! Sorry for punching you again.”
“Bye, Shrimpy~! Don’t bleed out!” He slammed the door behind him.
Jade sighed, standing from the armchair, “I should make sure he’s not doing anything too destructive. Best of luck to yourself, Yuu.”
Yuu waves to him while he leaves the room. They look to Azul, raising an eyebrow in question, “You wanna leave too?”
Azul mused for a moment. Female health classes weren’t something he was required to know, nor wanted to know. Anatomy in the Coral Sea was extensive enough, adding on surface world versions couldn’t be too different in hindsight. He might need the info later on in his life, maybe for a deal. Maybe to use it for a creative writing class, would Yuu find it distasteful if he wrote about their period in a horror setting?
“Azul?”
“I’ll stay.”
“Fine.” Crewel smacked his crop in his hand, twirling it to make the papers float and act as a PowerPoint, “Since you scared away the Shroud boy, I’ll have to do it this way.” Pointing toward a digraph of a uterus he spoke, “Luckily enough everything seems to be the same hardware-wise if your previous medical scans are anything to go by. Though, because you don’t have magic in your world, your bodies evolved a more… physical process.”
“Are you seriously telling me you bitches don’t get periods because you have magic?”
Azul slowly lifted a forkful of food to Yuu’s mouth, shakingly offering it like a sacrifice. He found that food was an easy way to calm their seemingly blind rage. He’d have to ask Jade for his notes later since he was too busy trying to keep Yuu and Floyd from fighting each other. He softly breathes a sigh of relief when Yuu lets him stuff the food into their mouth.
Crewel watched the exchange silently before continuing, “Yes…The process here is done normally after a day at most. The body’s natural magic will flare up and revitalize the uterus lining instead of…removing it.” He waved his crop, a photo of a body and various systems replacing the first example, “As I’ve told you before, everyone in Twisted Wonderland has magic naturally in their body’s cells simply from the magical byproduct of our world. So even if someone can not do magic, their body can still store magic to perform such cycles. It’s why scarring is so rare. Seeing how with modern medicine and the body’s cell restorative magic, healing has reached an almost perfect standard.”
Yuu was quiet, looking over the visual examples as Crewel continued his impromptu lecture. Leaning forward, they sighed out for so long it had morphed into a cry. They simply pushed away from Azul, ignoring him when he tried to comfort them. Turning away, they landed face first into the mattress and cried into their pillow. Through their sobs, muffled by the cushion they yelled, “This fucking sucks! I can’t even bitch with anyone else about how much this hurts!”
Azul looked at them in worry, barely noticing the red smears on his pants, “My pearl? Do you want pasta? Pasta makes it better right?”
“Azul, I’m getting real tired of you trying to feed me. I’m not a fucking wild horse you can soothe with delightful seafood pasta!”
Crewel raised an eyebrow, gesturing to the offered bowl in Azul’s shaking hands, “So do you not want the pasta-”
“Yes, I want the fucking pasta!”

Note
what would happen when reader finds out she’s pregnant in tmdg? especially if it’s too late to terminate
I think she would go through so many emotions all at once. There's this burst of excitement because she realizes it might be Floyd's, but then she also remembers she fooled around with Jade in the Coral Sea and so there's that factor as well. So now she's sort of,,, deflated. T^T and then the initial giddy shock wears off and now she's just having her Shinji moment, reflecting on everything she's done.
Tumblr media
Now everything makes sense. ^^;;; the uniform feeling too tight, being very hungry all the time, unbalanced emotions that feel so haywire, various food cravings, etc. Even Floyd's weirdness and Azul's strange comments make sense now. Of course Jade just smiles when she asks him if he knew. She's not sure if she should hit him over the head, cry, or laugh,,, or all in that exact order. In any case, a baby is on the way. Or, as Jade keeps joking about, twins. She's going to strangle him. >:(

TWST One-Shot: "Courtship" (Indigo Cerith)
Hello readers!
I'm back with yet another one-shot of our dear Indigo (yet again lol), however, this one connects directly into the story of 'Her Lost Voice' - so it's more like a side quest/backstory type situation.
For any new readers, I recommend reading this story before continuing the main plot with Chapter 15. It'll just make things way less confusing lol. Enjoy!
Tumblr media
Two weeks had passed since Indigo's final scuffle with his brother. In that time, just before the dust could truly settle, an invitation from Don Muraeni himself darkened the door of the Leech House.
Indigo watched Proteus enter the main hall with his signature smug grin and his remaining brothers in tow, flanking him like well-trained guard dogs. The elder two kept their eyes forward and on the Leech muscle that flanked Indigo and Don Leech himself. Only the youngest of the three looked at Indigo but only for a quick guilt-ridden moment.
"What do you want, Proteus?" Don Leech didn't bother with any pleasantries, "Your boss sure took his sweet time gathering his thoughts. Or is he sending the rest of his brood to join his eldest in the ground as an apology?"
The two elder brothers hissed and snarled at the Don before Proteus chuckled and waved a hand to quiet them, "Now, now boys. Remember your manners. We are visitors in the esteemed Don Leech's house and he cannot be blamed for his gruff tone. Your brother left us all in a very awkward position..."
The electric ray merman gave Indigo a sharp look that sized him up. It wasn't clear exactly which brother he was talking about in that context, Indigo or Ventuno. Proteus continued to speak to the Don directly, "I wouldn't dream of offending or wasting your time any further, Don Leech sir. We merely come with a message from my own, most apologetic boss."
"I'm sure..." Don Leech sneered, "Out with it then."
"Don Muraeni wishes to meet you with and young Master Seven in person on mutual grounds to establish peace and to put all this nasty business behind us. In light of the folly our Ventuno has committed, Don Muraeni hopes to build the Muraeni household anew with Seven taking the lead."
Indigo's eyes narrowed as he weighed Proteus' words. None of his brothers looked surprised or moved by them whatsoever. Don Leech snorted dryly and crossed his arms, "Is that so? First of all, if your lot really wants him to return to that hellscape, I'd stop calling him 'Seven' like he's some stray you lost." Indigo glared with a challenge in his eyes directly at his father's right hand, "My name is Indigo Cerith. I won't answer to anything else. Give me one good reason why I should even consider coming back."
The smile widened on the ray's face as if Indigo's declaration was the exact thing he had been waiting for, "Glad to hear it and honestly, young master...I'm so glad you bring that up..."
-
He felt...sick. It was hours after Proteus issued his father's invitation, but Indigo's head wouldn't stop spinning with conflicted adrenaline. He was alone in his room, no idea what the hour was just that it was dark out, and any sounds that came from the outside hallways echoed dull and muffled in his ears.
"Your dear stepmother will be so happy to hear you've kept the name she gave you all those years ago..."
No... "Just as happy to see how much you've grown, I'm sure. With that in mind...I do hope you accept your father's olive branch." No...was she really...? Indigo felt every emotion he had frozen away for years break loose and overwhelm him. He hid his face in his hands and tried to repress them back again but all he could do was let out a frustrated sob. Junonia...his mother...she was alive? All this time?! Had he known-  Had he known....another sob ripped from Indigo as he realized his father and Proteus' plan. The truth was that had Indigo known Junonia was alive and trapped in his father's clutches, he never would have left. Indigo would never leave her there to suffer alone. Deeper into the mansion, Madam Leech lay next to her restless mate in their room, "Darling...what are you going to do?" She ran her porcelain fingers through his dark locks to soothe him.
The proud Don's eyes said it all: he was angry and disgusted for another myriad of reasons. His rival was an opportunist monster. He had always known this since this feud started but today was the final nail in the coffin. Luna and Cowrie were now his daughters and no one could tell him otherwise. Indigo was under his care and had the potential to be a great addition to the Leech household. Because of that, Don Leech couldn't rest while one of the Ceriths was still being targeted. He saw the worry in his mate's eyes and he frowned.
"We're going to make a plan. Have faith in me, love."
His wife nuzzled her face into his chest and purred, "I always do, dear husband. I'm just worried about the toll this will take on our poor Indigo..."
His bride had maternal affection for all of his boys in spades. Young or old, she never hesitated to care for each one in their time of need as if she birthed each of them herself. Under his gruff surface, he adored her for this quality.
"He needs someone at his side."
Don Leech heaved a deep sigh, knowing exactly where this was going. He never mentioned it but ever since all of his wife's match matching efforts went to waste on their rebellious twins, Madam Leech had been silently buzzing to get to work on someone else. There wasn't a soul in his clan that hadn't had every chance at finding a mate thanks to the lady of the house.
"Dearest..." he began in a tired voice, "I know you mean well but is now really the time?"
Madam Leech got that look in her eyes as she sat straight up, "But of course! What a better time than now when that poor boy's run himself ragged for everyone else's sake!"
"I understand, my love, but I don't think throwing him into the ring with our sons' rejected leftovers is going to-"
His wife cut him off with a shrewd look, "Honestly husband, what do you take me for? My darling Jade and Floyd found absolute diamonds for their mates! Anything less would be an insult for dear Indigo who, need I remind you, protected your beloved wife-"
This went on for a while. Way after Don Leech had already silently admitted defeat. But just when he thought it was over, his mate dropped the final bomb on him.
"And besides, I know just the right match and already tested the water with him so to speak. The timing couldn't be better. My sweet niece is on the market. She'd be perfect!"
Don Leech gave his wife a wide eyed look, "Your brother's daughter...? Your brother, the same straightlaced guppy who nearly went belly up the minute my name left your lips when I was courting you?"
The elegant eel giggled at the memory, "Yes that brother. His daughter is an angel with her mother's backbone. And she adores you! I'm sure with her favorite uncle's blessing she'll give dear Indigo a chance."
"It's not our niece I'm worried about," he grumbled, "but...well you're usually right about these things."
"I'm always right about these things, darling," she purred before giving him a kiss. -
The morning light, little of it there was, seemed to pound into Indigo's already aching head. He felt like had been buried alive under concrete as he sluggishly stirred on his bed. A knock at his door made him groan but the stoic eel quickly sat up when he heard Don Leech's gruff voice call out to him.
"You up, boy?"
Indigo wasn't given the chance to answer before the door opened. His boss had a calm yet serious look on his face as he looked the ragged younger eel up and down, "Breakfast is on the table. My wife expects you to join us today so don't keep her waiting, hm? And fix your hair, you look a mess."
Indigo learned very quickly that Don Leech was like his own father in that he wasn't very generous with affection, verbal or otherwise. However, very much unlike his father, Don Leech did make a point to look out for Indigo in his own way. Neither eel ever said anything out loud, but Indigo silently understood and appreciated it.   "Yes sir."
Madam Leech was far more open with her affectionate nature as if Indigo had always been one of her boys. Honestly, Indigo wasn't prepared for it at all.  It reminded him of how kind Junonia was to him and how Luna inherited it from her mother. And how much he missed it. While he knew her intentions were good, now knowing that Junonia was still alive...he couldn't help but feel guilty for not just enjoying the mistress' motherly affections but almost needing it. Again, this was something Indigo would never say out loud.  Madam Leech smiled warmly to her mate and Indigo as they entered the dining hall, "Good morning, my dears."
Indigo had expected Don Leech to get right down to business given the circumstances. Instead, something completely unexpected came up in conversation.
"In light of your current situation, Indigo," he began after his wife very pointedly cleared her throat in his general direction, "My wife and I have come to an agreement. We think it's time for you to focus on finding a mate for yourself now that you are free to do so."
Indigo nearly choked on his bite of food. He blinked almost owlishly at his new boss, "I..uh...are you sure now is a good time, sir? Especially since my father's focus is back on me?"
The gruff Don sighed but didn't look up from his plate, "I understand your concern. I had them as well at first, but the fact of the matter is you're in this life whether you are here in my home or back there with your father. The difference is here, you can have a life all your own and thrive. Trust me...having the right mate by your side makes all the difference, boy."
Madam Leech smiled sweetly at her husband even if he wasn't looking at her, she still felt his tail gently wrap around hers underneath the table as he said these words. Seeing the hint of nervousness in Indigo's tense shoulders, the kind mistress stepped in to comfort him.
"Don't worry, my dear, we're not going to just throw you into the currents blindly, "she chuckled making Indigo relax a tiny bit, "My niece that I mentioned to you recently is looking for a mate. I think you'd be a wonderful match for her and her for you as well," her expression was full of confidence and warmth, "I don't want to pressure you, of course, but...if you are interested, I've been invited for a visit this weekend and would happily take you with me to meet her, Indigo. If nothing else, I think you more than deserve a break away from it all."
If he were being honest, Indigo felt very, very unsure about all of this. That was the first layer of the absolute whirlpool of emotions he was hiding underneath his slightly uncomfortable expression. The next was a barrage of awkward memories from his school days and all of the interactions he had with the opposite sex, and sometimes the same sex, as a teenager. Indigo inwardly cringed at the memory but honestly the final layer was that he had one more secret that he'd been holding onto for years. Remembering her brought both peace and tremendous guilt into his heart.  Especially when he recalled his history between their first meeting and now. Any sort of intimate experiences he did have over the years was purely transactional and arranged beforehand by his father to...well putting it bluntly, take care of his and his brothers' carnal needs during certain times of the year after they reached a certain age. For Ventuno, he had always been aggressive, but it came to a boiling point when he was fifteen. He took to this arrangement a lot more than Indigo did whose first experiences were right before he started high school. There was no romantic attraction or attachment involved whatsoever. It wasn't exactly a secret on the Muraeni turf that this happened. But after Indigo was dragged back into this life under the waves when he was eighteen, he began abstaining from it altogether.  His father and brothers never shamed him for it but it all just felt so meaningless to him after he met her. Indigo never spoke of this with his sisters. If anything, part of him was afraid that they would eventually become just like those girls that were offered so freely to him and his brothers only to be put back on the metaphorical shelf when they were satisfied. That thought alone turned his stomach. But now that Luna and Cowrie were secure with their own mates...the final layer that Indigo was that he was very lonely, and he missed her desperately. Now that he was in fact free to pursue something more substantial, perhaps they could try again.
Indigo cleared his throat as he tried to keep the butterflies in his gut at bay, "I...I would like to, ma'am, but-"
Madam Leech lit up like an Anglerfish's lure before he could even finish, "Wonderful! Oh she is such a lovely girl, you will love her immediately I'm sure. My brother doesn't have the same connections as my darling but the Funebris family is still quite distinguished and well bred," she beamed.
Indigo suddenly felt his whole world come to a halt. Almost to the point where he choked again. He knew that name...but had no idea that it was connected to the Leech family in anyway. Her shy face that he hadn't seen in years suddenly came to mind. The way she both hid behind her vibrant green-teal hair when they first met. Yet her fiery orange eyes glowed like embers when she finally opened up to him little by little. Her voice was soothing and warm, like herbal tea. Fragments of the memory kept threading together in Indigo's mind as he felt his pulse in his own throat.
"And your niece's name?" he asked tentatively, hoping to satisfy the intense curiosity burning through him. Could it really be...?
"Ivy Funebris. She's as lovely as she is smart. I'm sure you'll adore her."
Ivy Funebris...his final secret. It had to be the very same Ivy he grew to love.
"I already do..." he said almost bashfully, making both Don Leech and his wife stare at him. After a long beat, Indigo took a deep breath and cleared his throat, feeling the heavy realization of what he was about to say press in on him, "We've...met before. Several times actually...somehow her being your niece never came up in conversation, however..."
The entire ocean and universe above had to be laughing at him right now. That was the only explanation for how anxiously stupid Indigo felt as he watched the married couple process this information. Don Leech's eyes narrowed at the nervous young merman.
"You've met my niece before...where and how exactly?"
"At school...s-sir. I was already going by Indigo Cerith so she didn't know who I was. Really...was, I mean." Somehow Indigo's voice was even keel though he felt his entire body's desire to crawl under the table, "We first met at an academic conference between our school, Royal Sword, and her school, Sacred Crown."
"Uh huh. Go on..."
Madam Leech started to feel a bit sorry for Indigo's poker face was beginning to crack under her husband's razor-sharp stare, "Darling, please..." but her soft plea went ignored.
"We...took an interest in each other pretty quickly. But I didn't want to put her in danger, so I never told her who my father was or where I really came from. During breaks from school, I would stay on campus and communicated with Ivy mostly through messages whenever we couldn't see each other. But any face-to-face meeting we did have was very respectable, sir."
Indigo was close to sweating even under water, but had it been anyone else, the shrewd Don would have suspected he was simply giving him lip service. For the boy's sake, Don Leech relaxed a bit as he leaned back in his seat with a more casual tone, "And after your father dragged you back home...?"
It was probably the first time he saw Indigo truly flinch. Indigo had done his best to hide his sadness deep under the surface for a long time but now it felt impossible to do so, "I sought her out in secret. Since her home is further south and in unclaimed territory by you or my father, it never occurred to me that she might be related to you. She was still in school so I could only see her whenever she returned for summer and occasionally winter break, so I waited. We continued like that for about a year until her father found out. He threw me out and threatened to have me killed on the spot if I ever returned. It didn't take long for my own father to find out that I kept sneaking off at night and he put me in lockdown. I never told my father what exactly I was doing but I haven't seen her since I was nineteen."
Madam Leech's sad expression quickly hardened with resolve, "Well that settles it then."
Don Leech held up a hand to stop any argument Indigo was about to give, "Save it, boy. There's no changing her mind once she gets like this."
"Oh you hush," she playfully scolded her mate, "Indigo dear, you love Ivy still don't you? I can see and hear it when you talk about her," she smiled a bit smugly making his face flush, "All the more reason to reunite the two of you, especially now! I personally will not rest until my brother sees reason!"
Indigo blinked wordlessly at her and Don Leech, who just gave him a look that said 'I told you so'. So it was decided whether Indigo was ready or not. -
He held onto what he could until the very end of the day where his tired mind did the rest of the work for him as he slept. As soon as Indigo's head touched his pillow, the memory came back together more clearly...
Indigo was seventeen and a sophomore at NRC when he had met Ivy. She was a freshman at Sacred Crown. One of her dormmates had tagged along to the academic conference once she caught wind that the famous Oasis Snake of Scarabia would be there as well. Both of the eels were there to attend lectures between different magic schools in earnest. The other freshman girl in the equation just wanted a chance to catch Indigo's eye but thought having another mermaid at her side might break the ice. It definitely worked just not in the flirty human's favor, unfortunately.
Even in his dreams the human girl that had set her sights on him had a blurred expression in place of a recognizable face. He remembered walking towards the NRC library with a few of his own classmates where the lecture of his choice would be starting in a few minutes. That's when the faceless girl approached him and tried striking up a conversation. The dream seemed to skip and glitch in parts that his mind didn't quite recall but when it became clear, Ivy was there behind her dormmate, suddenly shifting into focus. Soft, shy, sweet. A feminine little thing with her hair in floppy twin tails and bangs that hid half of her timid face. But the one visible eye of hers was a stunning warm amber orange that burned like a sunset. Though she struggled to meet his ice blue gaze at first, when Ivy spoke, her voice was clear. She had a sweet scent that seemed to both excite and tame his more primal senses.  Eventually she smiled. She laughed. She looked interested in what he had to say in return. Ivy spoke openly about her studies in magic, her eyes sparkling with passion with each word. Anyone else around fell by the wayside as this cute freshman drew Indigo in at an alarming rate. Behind her shy demeanor, she was so pretty. The present Indigo would've been humiliated had he been awake. Even in his dreams, he could feel his teenage self's hormones drawn to this little female eel like the world's strongest magnet. Sure, they were both on land and in their human forms, but their true selves couldn't be fooled.  What exactly was it that kept his eyes on her? ...everything, it was everything, wasn't it? Her alluring scent, her beauty, her laugh, her passion...
"I'm studying various forms and function of Magic Stones to help with my family's business. You're from the Coral Sea too, right? Maybe you know the Funebris family too then?"
When his younger self said something in response, it just sounded like his voice had been filtered through thick fabric coming out muffled on the other side. Still, Ivy Funebris beamed at him in return and said something that made his heart flutter even in his dreams.
"You're really cool, just like I heard you were, Cerith-senpai...." the memory cut forward a split second and she corrected herself, "Ah...Indigo then...my name? Oh I'm Ivy."
Her soft pink lips formed the sound that seemed to ring like a bell. A teacher from Sacred Crown called out to her and took her attention away from him for a moment before she turned back to him, with a bashful smile, "It was nice to meet you, Indigo...can we talk some more later?"
And that was it. Indigo stared at the ceiling after waking up, replaying the image of her entirely. After about an hour, he just groaned in frustration before rolling over and burying his face back into his pillow. Did she even think of him in the same way anymore? Whatever the answer was...Indigo had to find out for himself.
-
The week passed quickly and left Indigo feeling strangely anxious. His time had been split between formulating a plan under Don Leech's guidance and getting himself prepared to reunite with Ivy Funebris. Madam Leech had helped bolster his confidence in the days leading up to their visit but once they arrived, it was clear that this wasn't going to be nearly as straightforward as either one had hoped.
When Madam Leech said her family, her brother and his own family especially, were distinguished and well bred, she wasn't exaggerating. Her brother, while not connected to the mafia his sister had married into, made a name for himself by discovering and harvesting magic stones that were native to the Coral Sea directly. More specifically, magic pearls and the development of them were his business and his business made him very wealthy. That and his very eligible daughter put the Funebris family center stage for hungry suitors looking to climb up the social food chain. Meaning that when Madam Leech and Indigo arrived, he wasn't the only suitor coming to call that day. Frankly, it made his blood boil defensively. His coloring was vastly different and his face and body littered with scars. In a flock of more clean, green and yellow eels, Indigo's rough blue-grey and vivid yellow spotted coloring stuck out like a sore thumb. Getting a few strange looks put his already heightened nerves on edge but Indigo hid it under his trained poker face. Madam Leech didn't pay the younger hopefuls any mind and swam right past them with Indigo at her side. When they were greeted at the door by one of her brother's staff, Indigo was met with another questioning look. This was going to be an entire obstacle in itself he realized once Ivy's father entered the room they were escorted to. The father greeted his sister with a bright smile, clearly relieved to see her still in one piece though she was still a mob boss' wife. When his eyes landed on Indigo, his smile quickly fell off his face.  "And...this....is?"
"Indigo Cerith, sir," he politely bowed his head and reintroduced himself.
"My husband's new and very promising protege," Madam Leech didn't bother trying to hide how proud she was,  "I brought him along to see sweet Ivy."
The brother's eyes narrowed sharply as he looked Indigo over, "You brought him to meet my daughter? Isn't he one of those unsavory Muraenis? In fact...oh yes, I remember you," his tone turned venomous as he snarled out the last few words, "I invited you, sister, but you brought this trash here with you?!" He could change his name but he couldn't change his appearance, not without some serious magic anyway. Don Muraeni was so infamous that even Roman Moray merfolk that weren't related or connected to him in anyway were hated by those not affliated with him simply because they had the similar color and patterns on their skin. Being Don Muraeni's actual offspring was always going to be a hurdle but... "I'm not associating with Don Muraeni anymore if that's what is troubling you, sir."
Indigo still had to try. Thankfully Madam Leech was in his corner and ready to defend if not hype him up any time necessary. Mr. Funebris saw the look in his sister's eyes and hissed, "You cannot seriously expect me to let Ivy know that he is here! I'm already having a hard time getting her to meet any of the other suitors I've chosen for her!"
"Indigo, dear. Why don't you wait out in the gardens? They are quite lovely," She would know for she designed them herself, "I need to catch my baby brother up on some things..."
Madam Leech blocked her brother with a deadly serious gaze before he could even think about stopping the young man from leaving. Indigo said nothing and left the room, knowing that his mistress had everything well in hand. - The grounds were pretty easy to navigate after being in the Leech Mansion for a while. Even so, Indigo was frustrated. It felt like any corner he turned he was met with another pedigree suitor giving him the stink eye. He was about to find peace when he reached the garden gate only to see two eel boys trying to peek inside a closed off corner towards the back. They were whispering to themselves.
"This is the only locked up place, why wouldn't she be in here?"
"You're probably right but doesn't this seem a bit much...? Wouldn't it be better to just wait like the others?"
"If you want to get left in the cold with all her other rejects, be my guest," the first boy scoffed, "besides...there's no harm in getting a sneak peek before anyone else."
Hearing the shady eel laugh creepily to himself enflamed Indigo's protective instinct faster than he could blink.
"The hell do you think you're doing?!"
The two intruders jumped back at Indigo's snarl and nearly wet themselves when they faced him. The first bolted out of the garden without argument before the second clumsily followed after him. Indigo just rolled his eyes and crossed his arms as he watched them flee. The plant covered lattice-like barrier they had been peeking into had a hand sized opening in it. It felt weird to look into it himself, but Indigo also didn't feel right just leaving it unguarded. Instead he turned his back to it as he leaned against the fencing, his gaze locked onto the front gate. He never understood the desire to spy on girls even in his teen years. Sure he was curious but there were limits...
He sighed as time passed slowly but at least it was quiet and he was alone finally. Indigo felt himself start to relax for the first time all week when a soft brush of movement sounded from the other side of the fence. There was a sweet scent and then a familiar voice...
"Hello?"
Indigo felt his muscles tense as that tone hit his ears and made his head turn towards the opening, "H-Hello....I'm sorry to hover here it's just there was some other guys lurking about."
The voice gave a soft chuckle, "Ah, again. It happens whenever my father invites suitors to come. Thank you for chasing them off.... what's your name, sir?"
He felt like he was losing his mind. Indigo felt hot embarrassment wash over him as his body tensed up with instinctual excitement. His pulse quickened, his tail started to flick back and forth, hell, was his mouth watering?! Great merciful Sea Witch, his hormones were probably pumping out pheromones like it was the damn end times! Indigo felt like an absolute fool! All this just from a sniff of her sweet scent and the sound of her warm voice? He mentally growled at his own body for acting like he was still a teenager. The scent, the sound of her voice, both were more refined now, but it had to be...it was too familiar.
"I-Indigo Cerith..."
When he heard a soft gasp and the sound of his name, he knew.
“Indigo?!” He hid his face in his hand, trying to ignore the shiver running up his spine at hearing his name on her lips, “Y-Yes...”
After collecting himself for a moment, Indigo moved to the opening and saw one surprised burning orange eye with a bit of bright teal-green hair. It was her. There was an expectant hush to her voice as she looked in his icy blue gaze, "Y..You remember me?"
He deadpanned probably for the first time ever. Did he remember her?! Indigo couldn't stop himself. He felt the same rush come flooding back just like when they were still school kids as his voice came out in a shaky chuckle.
"Ivy, why do you think I'm here? Of course, I remember you..."
Her gaze seemed to freeze in shock before widening in distress, "Indigo..." and suddenly she was gone. It happened so quickly that Indigo almost believed he imagined her being there completely.
"Ivy...?" he called out quietly. He started to feel panic creep up on him under he heard a gate further down unlatch. He caught a quick glimpse of her beautifully green tail whip back inside before following after it. Indigo felt his heart pound as he entered the garden and looked about for Ivy. He heard a soft sob coming from inside a small forest of seaweed and stone structures and saw her silhouette. He quietly approached, feeling more guilt stab into him the closer he got to her crying voice. Indigo nearly dropped dead on the spot when he saw her curled up on herself under a stone arch.
Ivy Funebris had grown beautifully. It was almost unfair. In place of the shy, petite girl was now a blossomed young woman, carved in smooth spring green and teal skin, bright fins that held a light shimmer to them, with the same soft, now short hair framing her sad face. Ivy looked up at him with her gorgeous heartbroken eyes. Indigo felt himself almost shatter in her presence.
"Ivy...please let me explain-"
"You're a BEAST, Indigo Cerith!" she sobbed, "wh-where did you go? I...I thought you were gone forever! I waited...I waited for so long. I've refused every other man my father brought here in hopes that you were still out there somewhere..."
Remorse wasn't a strong enough word for what he feeling. He carefully lowered himself to the ground in front of her, "Ivy, I'm so sorry. I didn't stay away because I wanted to. It's...it's a long complicated story."
Ivy sniffled and wiped away her near invisible tears in frustration, "Oh is it? Try me, Indigo Cerith. Or should I call you Indigo Muraeni instead?"
When he hesitated, she turned away from him with crossed arms and an angry pout, "Yes I know who you are...I've known since my father chased you off that night."
"I didn't know who you were, Ivy," his voice was soft as he leaned in closer to her, his eyes sad and pleading, "It wouldn't have mattered even if I did. My feelings have never changed. Does my heritage make you hate me...?"
She scoffed but still refused to face him, "I don't care about that! I never did...I just wanted you to come back to me. You're cruel for making me wait so long!"
"Ivy..." his earnest voice made her heart leap. She stubbornly held onto her anger as she felt his arms gently embrace her from behind...but even so, she couldn't bring herself to push him away. He repeated her name like it was a prayer as he pressed his lips into the back of her shoulder like he used to. She felt her resolve melt the gentler his kisses became. If anyone had stumbled across this scene, they would have thought the usually stoic Indigo had a doppelganger.
"Ivy. Please forgive me. Please hear me out," he whispered into her skin, "Please. After that, if you want...I'll never trouble you again."
His whole body jolted as she suddenly turned around in his arms and pressed her lips eagerly to his. When Ivy broke away, she still had that fiery look in her eyes, "Don't you dare leave me again. I'll never forgive you if you do....now tell me everything."
Her expression softened into one ready to listen. So he did. Every single thing that had happened to him, to his sisters, and what was brewing on the horizon outside the garden walls as they spoke. Bit by bit, Ivy turned back into the sweetest girl he had ever known again. By the end, he could barely look her in the eyes and he held her delicate hands in his. Indigo felt a heavy lump form in his throat as he tried to continue.
"I had to see you again, Ivy. At least one more time. And now that I'm here...I...I uh hardly know how to even begin to ask you...to..."
He couldn't finish. The words were stuck in his throat, plugged there by the immense responsibility he felt about everything. Indigo was a mess but immensely grateful that Ivy was the only witness. He held it together for so long out of necessity but somehow, Ivy had become his sanctuary and always held him close whenever he was in a vulnerable state...this moment was no different.  He felt Ivy's gentle hands glide over his skin as if she was seeing all of his scars for the first time. She lifted his chin to guide his gaze to hers with a soft smile, silently asking him to finish. He gulped and tried again.
"Ivy. I've been stuck in a very dangerous life since I was born. If I could leave it behind completely, I would...but I can't. Even so, no matter what happens, I want you there next to me. I promise you'll never be in danger. I'll do everything in my power to make sure you want for nothing and to ensure you'll always be safe with me."
The smile on her face rivaled the sun. She cupped his face and kissed his jaw, his lips, and finally his closed eyelids before pressing her forehead to his with a sigh, "Took you long enough, Oasis Snake."
She giggled playfully at the groan that came from him. His half-lidded eyes dripped with exasperation, "Of course, you remember that stupid nickname..."
"How could I forget? You were so cool back then. No wonder my classmates swooned over you," her eyes were now full of girlish mirth. His face was grumpy, but his tail shyly wagged making Ivy giggle even more.
"Ugh stop it..."
-
After a long argument, Madam Leech headed to the gardens to fetch Indigo, ignoring her brother's last attempts to change her mind.
"I won't have it!" he groaned, "You say he's loyal to your family now but even so, he'll invite nothing but trouble-"
He stopped in his tracks with a wide-eyed look once they reached the garden entrance and he saw that the gate to his daughter's private sanctuary was open. He shot an accusatory glare towards his sister and snarled, "I told you he was up to no good!"
Madam Leech rolled her eyes and followed after her brother at a much more relaxed pace. When he hovered frozen just beyond the entrance, she smiled at the sight that greeted them. Ivy, radiant as sunshine, looked lovingly down at the sleeping Indigo and gently played with his stormy locks as his head rested on her lap. If she heard her father's fuss as he entered, she paid him absolutely no mind.
"Oh yes...what a ferocious delinquent this boy of mine is," Madam Leech drawled sarcastically with a smug grin, "My question is this, brother: when was the last time you saw Ivy look so happy?"
Her brother was dumbfounded, and boy did it hang on his face like a neon sign. His first instinct was to stubbornly object to this entirely and have Indigo thrown out like he did before but....he just sighed in defeat instead.
It was barely another week before Ivy Funebris became Mrs. Ivy Cerith. There wasn't a big celebration or official ceremony by request of the young couple. It simply happened and it was done before any naysayers could get a word in.
A plan was set and meeting date decided. The morning of, Indigo spent time in the Leech garden with his bride. They sat alone in solitary nook that quickly became their spot, tails intwined together, his kisses on her skin as she rested in his strong arms.
"Do you like it?" he asked before kissing into the bare skin of her neck after he finished clasping the jewelry on her.
His wife hummed sweetly as she admired the mating chandelier style necklace made of pearls and shell nacre that he meticulously designed for her, "It's absolutely beautiful. No one would ever believe me if I told them what a romantic my husband is under his rough exterior...then again, I enjoy having this side of you all to myself."
"You give him too much credit," he snorted dryly before giving her shoulder a kiss, "he was too clumsy to make it himself so he had a professional do it for him. That's why it took so long."
"I love him just the same so hush," she laughed before turning to face him directly, "More importantly...are you going to be alright?"
He couldn't hide the worry in his icy blues from his mate. When he didn't respond, Ivy nuzzled her face into his neck and took her time leaving a trail of affectionate nips leading to his collar bone, "Indigo, my love...?" she purred, trying to coax him out of his brooding.
Her husband knew he was beaten and just chuckled wryly, "I am... a bit anxious to see my mother again, if it is true that is. But I will be just fine, Ivy. I'll come back to you in one piece, Mrs. Cerith. I promise."
Indigo took her hand in his and pressed a kiss into her palm to seal the promise. His wife felt warmth spread on her face in time with her smile, "I'll be waiting, Mr. Cerith."
