An Unspoken Secret Yearning To Escape

There are words resting in my throat, choking me, wanting to be let out.

I'm scared of the aftermath that will come if I raise the volume of my thoughts; Purposefully unplugging my earbuds to let you all hear for yourselves.

What if you leave me?

What if you hear my disgusting thoughts and think me an ass?

You take each shakey pitch with venom as you clog up your eardrums; Perfectly placed cotton swabs.

If I don't speak up, I fear the worst, I teeter on the seesaw of internal death, the death of us.

But what if I said it all and things changed, it brings us closer, maybe carving open my mind wouldn't be so bad?

But I'm petrified that you're going to yell and take everything side ways, that you will think it all to be blame and slander; "A huge slap in the face to everything you've ever done for me, for us."

I hate bottling everything up in fear, I too am a hoarder, one of a different nature.

I just truly don't know how to fix us, I know there's a way, I just don't know which wire is the right one; Which one will cause us not to blow up and die?

I'm a coward who doesn't want to be the one to do it, to cut the wire that could help us heal, together.

My chest caves in at the thought of being abandoned for unshedding my tears; Opening up years of bottled anguish.

I'm just so tired, it hurts to see everyone suffering around me on mute, and I honestly don't like the thoughts that have been dashing around my head, they hold a knife up to my existence and whisper awful things; A twisted way of coping and solving everything.

What do I do, what do I say?

How do I keep us all together without you walking off into your mountainous forest of solitude?

Silently I weep at the thought of our band finally breaking up, each member angrily heading off in a different direction, walking home the true family way; Sitting alone in a quiet garage of abandoned-dusty-unique instruments.

Through tears I let the gentle melodies of our songs wash over me, it's torture to listen to my favorite hits alone, each memory bouncing off the lonely walls of my heart.

We don't need to crack and float away, there is no need to become Pangaea; Wait, just wait, I swear there's glue in this drawer or maybe...it's this one?

Will I raise the volume to my wellkept thoughts?

Clear my throat, raise my head up high, fixing my posture(for once), looking you each in your intimidating marbles, 3 pairs of brown and the lil odd man with the beautiful green orbs dancing in a mixture of many lovely shades, and release a tiny roar for your huge four-finger-lengthed foreheads to acknowledge?

No.

No, I will not be doing any of that, at least not with my voice, for my skills in writing far exceed the ones in speaking; Written material from the fierce-short-inner Centaur smoothly typed out as her tongue undoes a multitude of knots.

I spill to you this, my droplets of truth; A taste of the secret feelings I have imprisoned inside the dark shelves holding a fine collection of tightly sealed bottles within my heaving lungs.

Told to you through the freeing art of poetry; The Centaur is shy, having little experience in the domain of sharing and talking about the arrows currently kissing her skin, they've rested there for years, the blood has dried and dipped into her unwashed pores.

I am lost, searching for the safest way to pick out the splinters we have rooted deep within our skin; She doesn't know what to do, panicking under this overwhelming presence of frosty distance, stressful tears brimming the corners of her eyes.

How do I fix this?

Will sharing any of this help?

There are words scratching on the gummy insides of my throbbing neck, screeching to be freed, wanting to mix and mingle with the sounds of life, it kicks and strangles me, turning me green and blue, for I wish to vomit them loose on the carpet of our home, but I'm scared of the mess it shall truly make if I were to yack it all up for once.

a melancholy, a sigh, a drifting dream, draping like a soft blanket over a body trying to be. this was blindingly, achingly beautiful and so incredibly emotionally resonant. i tumbled head over heels in love with this.

deftly-written and -put-together, to form an incredibly cohesive narrative. it's raw and real and unafraid to say things. there's beautiful vivid imagery and metaphors, and running motifs that are such a satisfying thread to tether you to the narrative and even give you a full-circle moment with growth. oh, and i absolutely ADORE the religious metaphors.

an exploration of identity, religion, love, mental health, family, trauma... it"s heavy, yes, but with prescient and acute writing that cuts right to the heart of things in the most beautifully poetic way, weaving words right through all the things we're afraid to say, splaying our secret heart of hearts out bare, tremulous, for inspection - it absolutely feels like a very cathartic collection that is so so healing.

chronicling the process of growing and learning and living and loving and the rollercoaster of healing from trauma, this whole book is something that will be very very special to my heart.

In manicured miles across the floor

Writer ask meme: 26, 37, and 41

26. What’s the most research you’ve ever put into a book fic?

Hmm... I don’t know. I think that would have to be TPBoD (three-novels-length KH fic I co-wrote with two friends, for those not familiar) simply because it was such a huge project?

We researched all the currently released KH games, even playing through a few in Japanese because they weren’t released in English yet, watched and took notes on every Disney movie we referenced, then went onto the source material and geographic locations for those movies and did a ton of research for that.

I still remember how we sat with floor plans of the Titanic, plotting out where every character was during the timeline of the disaster during that whole chapter. XD

Arguably, I’ve done a ton of research for Pangaea, simply because I’ve been working on that for nearly three decades. That adds up to a lot, even if it’s been spread thin!

And I am doing a lot of research for Heaven Has A Road, too, though with my cognitive issues these days, I’ve had to tone it down a bit. I love doing research, though, it’s a great way to get inspiration and getting to know the parameters of the world you’re working with!

37. Do you ever write long handed or do you prefer to type everything? 

I type. I can not write by hand, I change things continuously, and not being able to shift things around drives me nuts. I do take “notes” in the form of sketches, though! And those I sometimes do by hand, though most often I work digitally.

41. Are there any books you feel have shaped you as a writer? 

Anything by Terry Pratchett. I love his mix of humour, dark wit and absolute brilliance with he language itself, what he does with words. I love his books, and it’s definitely been a great influence on how I phrase things in my own writing, the general feel I’m going for.

I’m also a huge fan of Guy Gavriel Kay, who writes such beautiful books. The way his words flow, the words he chooses - it’s like lyrics, poetry, the rhythm and tone of each sentence is like singing in your head. And the plot and characters are great, too - there is one scene in The Lions of al-Rassan that I keep referring back to as one of the most captivating scenes I’ve ever read. Two main characters that you’ve grown to love throughout the whole book are finally forced into battling each other against the backdrop of a sunset, and you (as the reader) are so blinded by the light that you cannot tell who is who for several pages, not even which one of them wins and who falls. It’s terrifying, it’s heartbreaking, it’s so absolutely bold, but the build-up has been so solid that it’s just immensely powerful rather than frustrating. (And then it’s another several pages until you actually learn what actually happened, which is cruel, but again, beautiful.)

I love words, the taste and sound of them, the rhythm of them, the pictures they paint. And these two writers, while diametrical opposites in many ways, both write in a way where the prose, the flow and choice of words itself, really moves me.

Definitely goals, something to strive for, to achieve a glimpse of that in my own writing; that a text should both carry strong emotional impact, but also in itself be beautiful.
