synopsis. after a fight with sirius, regulus comes to his girlfriend sulking and she decides to have a little talk with his older brother.

notes. regulus black x malfoy!reader

you and regulus had many more similarities than anyone could guess just by simply looking at the two of you. the most obvious included your background — ancient, pureblood families, who were nuts about purity, both in slytherin, both richer than most of the hogwarts students together, and in everyone’s eyes you were petty, stubborn and pretentious.

you two were petty and seemed pretentious, but it wasn’t all that. the two of you both had siblings, who maybe cared about you in some way, but never showed it well enough for you to be sure they cared. you were sure sirius cared, but you weren’t sure if lucius did. your brother was far from being a family guy.

both you and regulus were also painfully ambitious, and it kind of made the two of you so close as you were paired to one group in slughorn’s classes, and to secure yourself a top spot, you had to work together. and so half a year later, you were planning a trip to france, lying next to each other on the bed in his dorm.

after that one summer everything has changed, and now you two were an official couple, though not many people knew since neither of you wanted to make a big deal out of it. the amount of classes you shared had shrunken since you took different ones, but it just made your bond stronger.

it all happened on a week before both of you were supposed to return to your respective houses (though, regulus would be staying at potter’s), you were wrapping your present for barty, when your boyfriend stormed into the room. pandora, who sat there with you, claimed she would leave you two alone and left. you could easily see that something happened from the look on his face.

“reg,” you began, eyebrows furrowed at his sudden appearance. “is everything alright, love?” a soft ask left your lips as he just laid down on your bed, face buried in a pillow.

silence filled your room right after you finished your sentence. it was time for you to just sigh quietly, putting a hand on his back and scratching it gently. “you know you can talk to me, right?” your soft tone and the sensation of your nails on his back made him grunt.

“i’m not leaving for christmas.” he stated, catching you a little off guard. you were sure it was about the upcoming christmas ball that slughorn threw and since you were invited, regulus was ought to go with you. “i… got into a fight with sirius, so either we make up or i’m gonna go to my parents.” now, he was looking at you with misery and sadness flickering in his eyes.

“he thinks james is more of a brother to him than i am.” regulus adds, his head now resting on top of your laps as you play with his hair, trying to comfort him at least a little. “and he says it’s not that big of a deal, since i consider evan and barty my brothers and i’d probably say that they’re more of brothers to me than he is, but that’s not true.”

his words made your heart ache. it was clear to everyone in your friend group (including remus, who often just tagged along) to know how much regulus needed sirius’ validation, how much he needed to be reassured that he doesn’t hate him as much as regulus thought he did.

“i know we haven’t talked until he moved out, but it still hurts.” he whispered, not even looking you in the eyes. “and he doesn’t even recognize how much he means to me. he’s the only one in our entire family that matters more than everything. i got his initials and constellations tattooed and he thinks i would choose barty and evan over him?”

“you’re brother is an idiot, and i mean it.” you murmured, showering his head with kisses. if regulus was in his usual mood, he would say he just acts like an idiot, but now? he didn’t even want to defend him. “i’ll stay with you. i’d go nuts if i had to spend a minute with lucius.” you say softly, fingers running through his hair.

it took you a few more minutes to comfort him enough to leave your dorm for his evening practice, and even though you were supposed to finish packing your presents before christmas. you had to talk to one, annoying gryffindor, who was no other than sirius black.

getting into their common room was easy, lily, friend of a friend of yours, let you in after hearing your explanation, showing you how to get into sirius’ dorm that he shared with james, remus and peter. “one of you better hold me or i might kill your friend.” you let out, looking specifically remus, who looked at you with a glint of surprise.

“what did he do again?” lupin asked, his expression scolding. “what’re you doin’ here, malfoy?” peter began, but before he could elaborate, remus put a hand on his shoulder and shook his head as you looked for the perfect words.

“how can you be such an asshole, black?” you hissed, the end of your wand pointed at his throat. “one time you’re all on being the best older brother you can, but next time all i see in yourself is my brother, and believe me, that’s the furthest from a compliment.”

“i’m not done, yet.” your teeth gritted, eyes narrowed at him. “he’d never choose anyone over you, yet you’d always choose him —” you looked at james for half a second, then turned your eyes to sirius, again. “— over your own brother, who’d jump into flames just if you asked him to? unbelievable.” you sighed, putting your wand down, sliding it into your boot. “and you know what’s the worst in all that? that i wish he’d pick anyone else over you, but he won’t, because he can’t even get mad at you for not choosing him, he’s just sad.”

the atmosphere in the room is so tense, someone could cut it with knife. “you’re an idiot for making regulus feel so little about himself, and y’all are idiots for letting him.” another sight left your lips as your eyes were locked with sirius. “maybe even regulus will let you treat him like shit, but i won’t, black. i’ll make sure to haunt your dreams and turn them into nightmares, i can promise you that.” you gave him your most ironical smile. “i’m a malfoy, don’t underestimate me, cutie pie.” you sent him a wink,

“protective girlfriend, huh?” remus chuckled as you passed him, giving you a high-five. “oh you bet, lupin.” and you left, sirius almost shamless at your sudden outburst, but… it was quite impressive — though, he’d never admit it.

you haven’t seen neither of them till the next morning at breakfast, when they walked to the great hall together, talking about something until each of them got to their respective tables. “what did you do?” regulus asked, sitting on the bench beside you.

“what?” you asked with a sweet smile, nudging him lightly with your elbow. “just had a small talk with sirius, why?”

“a small talk? with the tip of your wand pressed against his throat?” you nodded at his words, sending him a fake-puzzled look. “you know i love you?” he bit back a smile, leaning closer to whisper those words right to your ear.

“oi, malfoy.” barty started, interrupting your somehow intimate moment with regulus. “theoretically, if i paid you, could you do that to me as well? that must’ve looked bloody hot.” crouch grinned, getting a light punch on the shoulder from your boyfriend.

“i would rather not touch you, crouch. i don’t know where the hell have you been.” you laughed, your head resting on regulus’ shoulder as his arm was wrapped around your waist. “don’t worry, baby. if any of them bothers you, i can fight.” you winked at him playfully.

Regulus looked around the Hufflepuff Common Room and couldn't help but roll his eyes. Everywhere he looked, students were wearing the most atrocious, disgusting jumpers he'd ever seen. Jumpers with tassels and lights. Jumpers with baubles and huge cats. Jumpers with literal branches and stupid sayings.

The annual Hufflepuff Ugly Sweater Party was certainly a sight to behold.

But he wasn't able to feel nauseous about the whole thing for too long, as Pandora approached him, her own jumper covered in cats tangled in colorful lights that actually lit up.

"I'm surprised," she said with a smile, gesturing to Regulus's outfit. "You're actually participating this year?"

Regulus grimaced and rolled his eyes. "Only by force."

But he was a complete and utter liar. When James had approached him, eye huge with hope, with the bright red jumper, he'd protested only for a moment. Because as soon as he'd seen that it had a reindeer with glasses on? His heart has melted.

It was as if they'd put James on a jumper.

"So James made you wear this then?" Pandora laughed, poking Regulus's side.

Regulus nodded. "Definitely."

He slept in the jumper that night.

Hellooooooo students! Welcome back to your favorite gossip newspaper. I hope everyone had a good Christmas holiday now let's get into the news and boy do I have a lot of news for you.

Starting off with some weekly updates as usually before we get into the good stuff:

Filch has been announcing a new ban on gummy yoyos? What even is a gummy yoyo? And how have you all been using it to terrorize Filch? (Wanting to know for research purposes definitely not for my own schemes…)

Now some good news. Now that we're back from break McGonagall has stated no exams for the next month so Ravenclaw should throw a party now that they don't have the excuse of their studies to hold them back.

Speaking of Ravenclaw did you all see that game this past weekend? Whoo that was a close one, although it did seem like Ravenclaw was very distracted. Congrats to Marlene on her win in the Hufflepuff vs Ravenclaw game! I know she didn't play but she always wins in my heart [insert heart eyes].

And for our weekly activity because none of us can just stay in and study, Dueling club starts this weekend. So everyone head up to the clocktower this Friday for some awesome battles whether that's between your friends or your enemies. (nobody tell Pomfrey what really happens if you get injured.)

NOW ONTO EVERYONE'S FAVORITE PART, THE GOSSIP:

Starting off congratulations to Alexander Kemet-Ali and Andromeda Black on their engagement this past weekend at the Hogwarts New Year's ball. Alex brought in the new year by getting down one knee and popping the question right as the clock struck midnight. The young daughter of Black saying yes, after worrying us all in her recent post that they broke up before confirming they are actually in fact engaged!

Now onto a new brewing love triangle. Jamie the Ho and Anastasia Selwyn have been dating for the past couple of months as everyone knows but at the Potters Christmas ball it seems as though the Selwyn girl ran off to the gardens only to be seen alone with none other than Phoenix Harvey. Is this a scandal on our hands? It was well known a few months back that Harvey and Selwyn were caught hooking up after a wild Slytherin party only for her to end up with that whore Jamie a few days later. What is this girl thinking?

Ms. Selwyn was also seen leaving the Gryffindor common room crying a couple of days ago. Phoenix Harvey rushed after her to comfort the teary eyed girl. The girl crying over none other than shitty boyfriend Jamie Ho’s response to a photo of the girl having a nice time in his long-time rival's common room. Trouble in paradise I suppose. They should definitely break up.

Actually I almost forgot Kingsley Shacklebolt seems to have confessed his long time crush on the soon to be quidditch player at the Potters ball only to get rejected by the jerk that is Ho as he was dragged away by his girlfriend. How anyone could like Jamie Ho is something I will never understand.

Now onto Hogwarts favorite roller coaster of romance, Pandora Rosier and her significant others??? Trust me you'll wanna sit down for this one. According to sources the young Rosier twin attended the Potters ball with none other than Valentina Zabini only for the two to separate at the party and Pandora to be found chatting with Xenophilius Lovegood in a lonely hallway. The two seemed to discuss their child, a dodo bird whomst I forget its name, and their custody of the bird, as well as confessing previous feelings for one another. Afterwards the girl sought out Zabini and they seemed to have shared a moment? Although that's where the night ends MORE seems to happen a few nights later on New Year's Eve.

But before we get into that let's discuss Xenophilius Lovegood and the reason for Pandora and their discussion over the dodo bird's custody. Xenophilius seems to have never checked on Pandora after her breakup a couple months ago with Pureblood extraordinaire Lucius Malfoy. Instead opting to check on Malfoy and accept an offer of a “friendly dinner” with the boy. Only for Pandora to catch wind and accuse her ex best friend of plotting this the whole time and never caring about her. Which led to them cancelling their dinner with the boy and going back to chasing their longest friend.

Note: some mention from Lucius Malfoy about Xenophilius Lovegood being “the biggest snack”?????

NOW BACK TO NEW YEARS EVE. Pandora Rosier and Xenophilius Lovegood seemed to have run off to once again “check on their Dodo Bird” that Rosier claims is sick. However after their disappearance it seems the two are closer than ever and even seem to be a couple? Confirmation I'm sure will be posted by next week. I wonder how Lucius Malfoy is going to handle this news.

Another note: don't mess with Pandora or she'll steal batteries (and socks??) From your dorm room.

Now onto another world famous couple or should I say ex couple seeing as they are no longer together, Remus Lupin and Sirius Black. Hold on to something because this story is just absolutely ridiculous. The two boys broke up a few weeks ago, seemingly out of nowhere. Sirius Black seemed to be handling it worse than Lupin until he announced a new relationship with none other than Nico Mallory. Lupin also seems to have had a night with Lily Evans after the Evans girl posted a photo insinuating the two hooked up after arriving together to the new years eve ball. Lupin who was also seen getting close with none other than Gideon Prewett seems to be going through a hoe phase. But onto the best part, yesterday at the Hufflepuff party, Lupin was seen getting along very well with Mallory up until it was announced Mallory was dating his ex boyfriend. What will become of the two's relationship? Nobody knows.

Now onto the craziest couple in probably all of Hogwarts. Bartemius Crouch Jr and Evan Rosier. The two boys were seen kissing at the new years eve party only for Evan to barely remember and both boys to consult with long time friend and sister, Pandora Rosier. Evan who is engaged to Petra Elwood seemed to forget about the girl and their arranged marriage after finally confessing his feelings to his friend. The two are now dating and Petra is left in the dust for now. Although it seems Evans' previous confusion on his feelings for Petra have now been turned onto her as she battles with her future husband's new relationship and her own blossoming feelings for the boy. What will become of such a chaotic love triangle? Circle?

Now onto my favorite news, MARY AND EMMELINE HAVE FINALLY CONFESSED TO ONE ANOTHER. My girl Mary finally made a move and it worked out perfectly. The two attended the New Year's Eve Ball and Potters Ball together. I wish you both nothing but the best in your relationship.

Tom Riddle has now become play boy extraordinaire? Tom who seems to run an after school club *cough* cult *cough* has been making moves on Hestia, Mary and Lydia. Even going as far as arguing with Emmeline over Mary and then arguing over Hestia with Marlene. I'd back off if I were you Riddle, these girls are not to be messed with.

Now onto the craziest breakup. Hestia and James Potter are no longer the IT couple of Hogwarts. The only stable couple still being Peter and Gilderoy. Maybe Hogwarts is cursed??? Hestia and James are now co-parenting their cat and Hestia was even seen kissing Marlene Mckinnon twice this past week or so. Hestia better treat my favorite girl right.

Also Marlene found out what I look like because she's my favorite girl, best secret keeper and we possibly kissed the world may never know. Love ya Marls ;).

Also Oliver, Severus and Theodore seem to have something going on but we'll see how that goes I guess? Theodore is making me very confused on what's going on.

We also have another new couple, Aurora De'veux and Mason Haus. Hopefully they can have a stable relationship unlike the rest of us. Good luck, lovebirds!

Now onto our last segment because I'm very tired of writing this long ass update. This is actually currently happening as I saw McGonagall, Filch and Slughorn run by while writing this— have you all ever seen Filch and Slughorn run? It's hilarious. ANYWHO the old ballroom is on fire??? AND an abandoned shed in the forest just past Hagrid's hut??? WHO IS PLAYING WITH FIRE???

Dumbledore is asking for updates or if anyone has knowledge on who could have possibly set these fires?? Apparently matches have been found at the scene of the fire–

Jegumas day 19: xmas cards @noblehouseofgay

Regulus was dead. He had died. He was only 19 when it happened. Sirius had to keep reminding himself. He was “lying low” at Grimmauld Place, waiting for Remus to come back from shopping. It was like he was young again; shut up in the house with nothing to do, no one to talk to, basically in perpetual time-out. He hated this. He didn’t even have Regulus to distract him, or annoy him, or call for him to get something or other like he used to when they were kids and their parents would leave the house.

Sirius crept up the stairs to Regulus’ old room. He hadn’t been there for years. He was afraid. Of what, he didn’t know. Maybe he was scared he’d see Regulus again, or his ghost, or ruin the sanctuary that is his room.

The door creaks open, the hinges rusted and dusty, the knob untouched. The sign on his door, a plate of solid gold engraved with “Do Not Enter without the express permission of R.A.B”, was still polished and perfect, just as Regulus liked --- Sirius always made sure to polish it when he was cleaning.

The dust on the floor pushes aside with the door. He creeps inside, hesitant and unwilling to ruin everything. He grabs a broom from the hallways, clearing the dust from the floor so he won’t be able to see the footsteps he leaves. He creeps towards the closet, opening it with slightly misty eyes. He sees a pile of boxes near the corner, cleaning off more dust and making sure everything is practically spotless before grabbing a box labeled “Notes” and sitting on the floor with it, assuming it’s just old school stuff but wanted to see his handwriting again. He shakily opens it and sees, not school notes, but letters to his friends and other people. It’s organized by time and person. Most of them are to Barty, Evan, Dorcas, and Pandora, but there’s a few to and from Sirius. He must’ve been collecting them for everyone, as there are multiple back and forth conversations in the box. He finds a tag labeled with a little heart, almost unnoticeable if it weren’t for the fact that it was labeled so very differently. Sirius hesitates before looking through them.

All it is is letters between him and James. He notices the signature James always signs literally everything with and reads through the letters. It’s so many love letters, all lovey dovey and overly sweet. Sirius feels almost sick. How did he not know? Why would they keep it from him?

Looking a bit further back, there's a stack of Christmas cards between Regulus, James, and James’ parents. It’s sweet, Sirius can’t believe he didn’t know about it. He reorganizes Regulus’ letters, as if Reg would know he’s in there, and puts the box back exactly where it was. He leaves the room, making sure he shuts the door behind him before running to his room and crying like a dramatic teenager, in complete shock he’s missed such a big part of his own brother’s life.

Remus finds him just like that, heart seeming to break at the very sight.

i was excited, i had got jj two important gifts that you’ve been wanting for months now. i had john b and pope help me hide his gifts that i brought. wrapping the rest of the gifts, i went to go jump on jj. “baby! baby! wake up! we’re gonna open presents!” i pepper his faces with soft kisses. he pulls me in for a deep kiss and finally gets up. “ok mama i’m awake. i want you to see what you got me.”

as we walked into the living room, everyone had a gift in their hand. “damn! i guess we could’ve done a secret santa, it would’ve been way easier.” pope said, and kiara agreed. “it’s okay it’s way better like this anyway, ok so… sarah, kiara, open what i got you!” i hand them their gifts and reveal that i bought us matching bracelets.

“holy fuck y/n! i love it!” kiara runs up to me and hugs me, then sarah comes to join. “this is so sweet!” sarah says as we have a group hug.

•15 minutes later•

“can you open up my gifts sweetheart?” jj says, handing me two gifts. “yeah baby, let’s see!” i open one of the gifts and my jaw drops. i open the wrapped pandora box and it reveals a beautiful diamond heart ring, with a matching bracelet and necklace. “baby this is beautiful! thank you so much!” i start to feel tears prickle at my eyes but i hold them back. “thank you my love, you’re amazing!” i get up to hug you, i pull you into my embrace. i feel your strong arms wrap around my waist. “one more gift princess, safe those tears for a sec..” he pulls another gift from under the tree and unwraps it with me.

my eyes nearly pop out of my eye socket. “jj maybank you did not..” he opens up and sets up the new macbook for me. “you’ve been talking about it for months for school sweetheart, so i thought, why not get it for my beautiful girlfriend?” he fully sets everything up for me and kisses my neck “thank you so much jj! now… i NEED to show you the gifts i bought you, but we have to go outside!”

i lead jj outside and i run to the back and grab the custom surf board i had built for you. “surprise baby!” i wish i could’ve took a picture of his beautiful features as they lit up. “y/n… you did not..” he grabs the board and really looks at it. “thank you my sweet girl, you didn’t have to do this.” i shake my head. “you deserve it baby, i’m so happy to put a smile on your face!” he grabs my hand and lifts me up to kiss me. “one more gift baby!” i give you some motorcycle keys. “y/n y/l/n. i know you didn’t buy me a motorcycle!” he looks shocked, almost about to tear up.

“you’ve been wanting it baby, and i have to keep you happy!” he takes the keys and lifts me up even higher. “i love you so fucking much princess, come on we gotta take this on a ride!” i giggle as he swiftly takes me away to the motorcycle. “okay baby, let’s go on a ride.”

Regulus was anxious. Far more anxious than one ought to be when picking out a Christmas present, but this was for James. Sweet, perfect, handsome, delectable James. What gift could possibly be good enough for him? Especially when he’d been raised with money and could literally have anything he wanted. Oh yeah, and Regulus was flat broke since he’d left his family.

Needless to say it all culminated in him pacing the floor in front of a too-relaxed-for-the-occasion Barty and an overeager Pandora to help him out.

“You could take him flying!” Barty offered in a rare moment of trying to be helpful.

“Yes Barty, I’ll take the incredibly talented English Nationals chaser on a fucking broom ride for his Christmas present. I’m sure he hasn’t ridden a broom only a million times in his life,” he scoffed, not stopping his progress in wearing a path in Pandora’s living room carpet.

“What if you make him something?” Pandora tried.

“What the hell would I make him?” He’d thought of the idea himself but this is where he’d always gotten stuck. Regulus hadn’t had much practice buying gifts, not ones that really mattered. He didn’t have to buy anything for his family members, it wasn’t how they did things. His friends had always been easy, straightforward if not underwhelming presents that he knew they’d appreciate in some way. But James? The one who sat firmly at the center of Regulus’s universe?

“You’ll think of something I’m sure,” Pandora said placatingly. “James loves you, if it comes from your heart there isn’t a way for him to not love it. Just, think of something that shows how much he means to you.”

Hours later as he sat at home waiting for James to come back from shopping with Sirius, Regulus was still trying to come up with the perfect gift for James. It had to have meaning, it had to show James just how much their relationship meant to him. He thought back through every conversation they’d had, every secret thought and desire and whim James had shared with him just looking for a hint about what it might be.

He was just about to resume his pacing when a picture of him and James on the mantle caught his eye. It was one Remus had taken when they weren’t paying attention, it showed them looking deeply into each other’s eyes with adoring smiles on both of their faces. As he watched the small moment in time replay over and over again, an idea started to take shape in his mind.

By the time James came home Regulus knew exactly what James’s gift would be. He would put together every little piece of their story, every scap and tidbit and memory he could squeeze into one book he would.
