The Bathers - Dreamless (1999)
After his group Friends Again broke up, Scottish singer Chris Thomson formed the Bathers. While Friends Again were exuberant, jangly pop, the Bathers were (are?) melancholy and dramatic.

Summary:
By tacit agreement, they’d shelved the more sensitive subjects their thirty minute journey from Roma Termini; postponing grim reality with a wide array of desultory chitchat. The magazines he’ll read on the plane, for example. The meals he’ll be obliged to eat. The inescapable jet lag that’s bound to knock him for six. Denial is grief’s distractor - or so his beloved bubbe used to say - yet such advice itself proves futile as Fiumicino’s glass façade renders him breathless; the gaping wound in Oliver’s torso bleeding ribbons atop the sun-baked parking lot.
“Are you sure you have your passport?”
Elio’s voice is unnervingly blank as he stares out the window of their idling shuttle bus; the lean muscles of his jaw bunched in solemn contrast to the quick-bitten nails tap-tap-tapping his star of David. It’s not the first time he’s asked - nor, Oliver suspects, is he truly heeding his response - but forcing a smile to his frozen features he pats his leather holdall regardless; acutely aware of his livewire knee jerking in the narrow space between them.
It’s all a bit of a blur after that, with Elio offering sporadic translations as they navigate the bustling concourse; both fists jammed in the pockets of his jeans ‘til they’re done checking his bags. Oliver yearns to soothe his pain. To gather him close and never let go. But like a fool, he’s allowed a physical gulf to fester, also. There's no comfort in this phoney shield - no healing from something not properly expressed - and crushed by the weight of their self-imposed exile he’s suddenly struck by the macabre notion their last, frantic kiss at the Pensione Barrett could indeed be just that.
Their last.
And the standard by which all others fall short.
“You’re staring,” Elio mutters, mouth flattened to a hard line, and Oliver’s plagued by indecision as his tell-tale heart beats for the want of another.
“I’m sorry,” he says, half-embarrassed and completely unmoored. “I shouldn’t -”
“Anch’io...” Shuffling his feet, Elio tugs at Billowy’s sleeves where he’s rucked them up to his elbows. “Does it bother you?” A pause. “That I’m wearing it?”
No.
And yes.
Though not in the way he might expect.
The possessive thrill of seeing Elio in his clothes triggers something primal, but given the circumstances, Oliver swallows thickly, a vicious ache rising in his chest as he curses the cards they’ve been dealt.
“What’s mine is yours,” he says eventually, earning a brittle scoff, and the next thing he knows he’s grasping Elio’s wrist like a goddamn lifeline: towing him through the airport pandemonia to the nearest restroom because fuck what anyone else thinks of them.
By some small miracle the long row of cubicles are empty, so Oliver makes a beeline for the furthest stall; throwing the lock then kissing him fiercely, crowding him into the graffiti-covered partition. It comes across too confident when he’s teetering on the brink, but Elio’s body is warm and familiar as he commits each frenzied movement to memory; piecing them back together as Plato envisioned, headless of the one p.m direct flight still waiting to rip them apart.
“I keep telling myself you’re going to change your mind,” Elio whispers, pressing his forehead to the crook of Oliver’s neck. “I keep thinking you’re going to stay.” He doesn’t sound angry. Or even accusatory. Yet the abject resignation in his slumped demeanour strikes a harrowing chord. “Only you’re not, are you,” he continues roughly: less a question than a statement. “When that gate opens -”
“Elio…”
“- you’re just going.”
Unhunching slightly, he clutches the dark-green material of Oliver’s Oxford: a weary Atlas braving the eternal struggle. His palm kneads his shoulder the exact same manner Oliver’s did that afternoon on the tennis court, and the churning of his stomach increases exponentially as Elio lets slip the occasional sniffle over the ancient ceiling fan.
Is it better to speak or die, echoes from the recent past.
You’re hurting me, follows right after.
Scenes from their San Clemente summer play like an old home movie, and the truth is irrefutable as Oliver takes him in his arms; his lover, his soulmate, the sun he’s orbited from the very start.
“Hey…” he murmurs, rocking him gently. “Hey... it’s okay. This isn’t over, yeah? You won’t lose me. Not if I can help it.” There’s a promise beneath his words - an outlandish certainty, likewise - and Oliver hopes with everything he has that Elio hears it also. “I’ll phone. We’ll write. There’s the book tour in the spring…”
Mere crumbs, he’ll admit, to the banquet on which they’re versed, and Elio’s eyes hide nothing as he chews his bottom lip, hands dropping limply to settle at his sides. “Do you have any idea?” he asks then, sans the raw urgency of before. “How glad I am we found each other? How happy I am you came?”
Oliver inhales sharply - allowing himself a choked-up sob - and as a broad, Italian accent booms from the overhead speaker it’s all he can do to hold on tighter: the salty sting of mingled tears bitter upon his tongue.

Hi, I just recently got into DOOM (and found your blog). Do you have any good recommendations for fan doom mods/maps? (they range from the most popular ones to your own personal favorites or little niche levels)
I'm going to see what i can think of because there's always good stuff that not even the Cacowards bring up.
As for mapsets or wads:
Romero's Sigil is obvious as if it should be official.
Memento Mori series
Requiem
Icarus Alien Vanguard
300 minutes of /vr/
Ancient Aliens
Anomaly Report
Alien Vendetta
Back to Saturn X series
Doom 2 Reloaded
Doom 1/2 The Way id Did
Some of the Doomer Board Projects like AUGER;ZENITH and Emerald City
Doom Zero
Doom city which is pretty good for a single map
Epic 2
Good Morning Phobos
Jenesis
Japanese Community Project
Moonblood
Munity
Plutonia 2 and Plutonia Revisited
Rebirth
Scythe 2
TNT Revilution
PhobosDeimos Anomaly
UAC Ultra
Going Down
Doom 64 for Doom 2
Consolation Prize (PS1 Doom and Doom 64 but compatible with gameplay mods)
Whispers of Satan
Note that some of them could be difficult or even have things like DEHACKED enemies or whatever can get in the way of a gameplay mod.
And speaking of gameplay mods:
High Noon Drifter
GMOTA
Combined Arms
Space Hunter
Colorfull Hell
DAKKA
Legions of Bones
Vanilla Doom Plus
Legendoom Lite
MK-Champions
Corruption Cards
TrailBlazer
Project Babel
Supercharge
Samsara
MetaDoom
Doom Delta
D4T
D4V
Final Doomer
Demon Counterstrike
Treasure Tech
Bratwurst
Netronian Chaos
Highway Acceleroid Booster
Eriguns 1/2
Psychic
Cybers Monster Randomizer
La Tailor Girl
Dusted's Pandemonia
Accessories to Murder
Cola 3
Hideous Destructor
Lt Typhon
And for TC stuff
Golden Souls series
Beyong Reality
Strange Aeons
Skulldash
The Edge of Time
REKKR
Reelism 1/2
Adventures of Square
Pirate Doom
StrongHold: Edge of Chaos
Project Uber
Winter's Fury
There's probably still examples i'm missing, so this is what i thought of.
A good way to look for more is see info of people involved like if they have Doomwiki articles or accounts on other websites and see what else they did.
And because this list is already big, you don't have to look most of them right way so feel free to use your time and interest with how you look at them.
Because some of this stuff can be difficult for newcomers like certain wads and mods.
There's also what versions of GZDoom or ZDoom a certain mod could use since some mods might be discontinued while GZDoom gets new updates.
#recommendation#doom#classic doom#id software#someone else's content#doom modding#modding#wad#gzdoom#ask#gameplay mod#map or mapset#total conversion#extra flavor

Discussed starter for @helluvaxhazbin - Blitzo & Loona
Almost all the people who had had the chance to get to know him decently through his life would say that this was one of his worst choices ever. And Blitzo's list of awful choice was shockingly long. He wouldn't have even needed to ask their opinion, he could picture the voices inside his head as clear as the day.
How he was not fit to be a parent. How he could hardly take care of himself. How this would end in a disaster because he couldn't handle his own shit, let along a child. How he would end up neglecting or abandoning or alienating them as he had done with all the other people in his life.
They were sentences he had heard before, even if not in that specific context, from former friends, estranged family, ex-lovers. He knew that he had screwed up a lot, even if he still refused to admit it out loud for Pandemonia to hear it.
However, things were different now. He had gotten his life together, or at least gathered all the fundamental pieces of it. He had a plan to put them back together, properly and following his own rules this time. And what better start there could be for his new life if not the one thing he had never really had? A good family. Even if it meant being a single parent.
When he had seen her, in one of the cells of the Hellhound Adoption Foundation, he had known that he had made the right decision and that all the hardship that would follow would be worth it.
She was an outcast, scorned and rejected and underestimated, just like him. He could see that her anger and roughness were born out of pain, as a defence mechanism. He had sworn to himself that, sooner or later, he would have managed to get past those walls and proved to her that she could trust him. And that she would have had the boundless support no one had ever given him.
And there they were, at the front desk with the Hellhound who had shown him the kids and a terrifyingly high pile of paperwork. Hell's bureaucracy was a real nightmare, but at least you knew that, once you had gone through it, no one would ever come to bother you about it. The forms were either stashed away and forgotten or thrown into the trash most of the time.
When the employee excused herself to go print the official adoption certificate, Blitzo turned to address the girl, Loona, directly. He had tried already, but she had just growled moodily at him. Perhaps, now that they were alone and away from prying eyes, she would be less reluctant to converse.
"So, as I'm sure you've gathered already, I'm your brand new dad. My name is Blitz...and if you hear someone sayin' Blitzo, ignore them," he started, offering what he hoped was his best welcoming, paternal expression. Not that he had any idea of what that was supposed to look like. "Yeah, I changed my fuckin' name some time ago, so now the 'o' is silent."
But she wouldn't have cared much about that, would she?
"Anyway! You're gonna love our place. I furnished your room...but you can decorate it however you want. I'm buildin' up my own company, I need to figure out a few details, but...eventually it will take off and it could be our family business!"
He shot the hellhound a grin that was supposed to be bright and reassuring, but it turned out to be a little too toothy. Well, sue him, he was nervous.
"Soooooo...Are you excited? At least about ditchin' this shithole?"

Character concept for a webcomic I'm planning, a postapocalyptic adaptation of the Iliad that exchanges the gods of Greece for the demons of the Ars Goetia.
The part of Achilles will be played by Eve, a trans woman who is the mortal daughter of Prince Vassago. She leads the woman-exclusive mercenary company, the Red Knots, who have been hired under shady circumstances to cross the Sea of Dust to assist Harlan and Paul Crane (Agamemnon and Menelaus) in their invasion of the free city of New Pandemonia (Troy).

1, 2, 13, 14 for the oc asks?
1. Your first OC ever?
GOD so i don't have her original design from 2005 but i do have her semi-current art
toa is a resurrected soldier who fell protecting her village, bound to her armor. her head was lost, so the god of earth used an animal skull in place of it
kids and adults alike leave flowers in her bushes to offer protection and thanks for keeping watch
(old art)
2. Do you have a personal favourite among your OCs?
lucifer and vanta both have special places in my heart
(old art)
13. Do you have any troublemaker OCs?
too many to count, but one in particular is gaia, the sage of the everglades
they kind of just revive things to fuck around and change their forests for kicks, much to the annoyance of most people (especially Styx on the left, death themselves)
(old art, again)
14. Introduce an OC with a tragic backstory
THIS IS GONNA BE A LONG ONE
Excella's story starts off in a tragedy- she is half Farseer and half Paradisian, which is complicated considering Paradise is why the Farseer city of ID and their god, the Oracle no longer exists as they once did. As a result, Excella was brought to Paradise to work for the Blanc family, the "saint" family who oversees most of Paradise.
The Farseer are special, while resembling humans they are not technically, as they're tied deeply to Pulse as most people and things born from it are. Farseer can manifest emotional energy into weaponry, armor, stairs, etc, so long as they can control their emotions. Excella being half Farseer, can use this, but her creations are highly volatile, and it's actively shunned by Paradise's government. So instead she was taught how to be an assassin and a soldier on top of being a maid.
Most of Excella's personality is heavily muted, only really showing up when she's around Henrietta, the rebellious and anti-Paradise rockstar daughter of the leader of Paradise (and her now ex girlfriend) and with animals and plants. Any mistake she makes as a battle maid results in heavily punishment, many of which former maids and attendants ended up as "angels", mindless zombies infused with whatever energy powers Paradise.
Her story starts with her being betrayed and cast out after accidentally witnessing the true face of "God", a parasitic entity tied to Pandemonia, a kingdom where the void is originally from.
She get's killed in the process, in her final moments as she plummets to the lands beneath Paradise where the most vile of creatures are said to exist, she hopes at least her parents are safe, and that her soul passes on in peace... but it doesn't. She ends up in Undeath, a realm between life and death, where she meets with Styx, who makes a deal with her to save Pulse from her former boss. She can't die, but she has to brave Undeath and return to her body to get back on her feet, and Undeath has a major void problem.
She wakes up in a shack she doesn't recognize and to a girl screaming at her, horns twisting out from her head, and a strange motorcycle parked outside with no wheels and shaped like a dragon.
here's her most recent design (old art yet again 2 electric boogaloo)
tl;dr 2b from nier, homura akemi and adel from maplestory fused and now have religious trauma in a place she was previously told was the worst thing ever, but is actually just kind of fun

Hi Tumblr! While I struggle to get my sapphic, vampire manuscript through a publisher, I thought it would be fun to write a weekly blog about my daily obsession: horror movies! Particularly, gothic ones. Cobwebs and castle corridors give me life! So without further fanfare, I present the first of Ronan’s Bloody Sunday; today’s feature movie Roger Corman’s The Terror!
The Terror was a weird one for me. Despite never watching it before, I believe I already had an idea what to expect from James Rolfe’s Monster Madness. Turns out, I had no idea. I’m still struggling. Unlike other surrealist experiences, I can’t even say it started out as clear. The very first scene is the legendary Boris Karloff walking through a spooky castle; only ending when he gets jumped scared by a skeleton (No context is ever given for this!) After the gloomy credits, it jumps to a wounded French officer (played by Jack Nicholson, in one of his first starring roles) limping through a moody shoreline. A shrouded woman (Sandra Knight, who does her best with the script) beckons him with a smile, and then the insanity truly starts. She tries to lure him into quicksand. She transforms into an eagle; because her soul is being charmed by a witch, using her magic mirror. She goes by two names: Helene and Ilsa. Jack is led to an apparently abandoned castle; which is inhabited by the Baron von Leppe (who - I guess - is supposed to be the character in the beginning, Karloff’s great performance a highlight): a suspicious and maddened nobleman. He’s being haunted by his wife, who he apparently murdered. As it turns out, his wife is the woman Jack is seeing, the officer becoming more and more obsessed with discovering the truth as the madness unfolds (like the transformed Helene: who pecks someone’s eyes out)…and then the madness becomes pure pandemonia. The final act is every character dropping bombshell after bombshell; the very fabric of the story becoming irreversibly altered by each revelation; each one pretty much happening a minute after the last. It all ends with an action-heavy spectacle of a finale: ocean waves come crashing into a secret, underground crypt, sweeping away the characters and their sin. Jack Nicholson barely manages to escape with Helene…only for Corman to pull one finale, gloriously spooky Halloween copout, as she literally melts into his arms.
If you couldn’t tell; the production was a complete clusterfuck. Its entire conception was based on Corman’s pragmatism: after filming The Raven, Karloff owed him a couple days more of work, so Corman had the wonderful idea of building an entire movie around him: him filming a couple scenes that didn’t have a working script. Five people (including Jack Nicholson, Corman himself, and none other then Francis Ford Coppola!) would end up taking the director’s seat, and the script was pretty much being written as they went; which explains the all-devouring plot-holes…yet, in spite of it all, I really enjoyed this movie. Much of the production was done by the excellent staff behind Corman’s Poe Cycle, and it has all of the same DNA: mist-shrouded forests, ancient castles layered with secret passages, and crypts filled with decaying cadavers. The movie absolutely oozes atmosphere. Deliciously gothic atmosphere, which is enough for me. The overblown acting, the cheesy (yet spooky) special effects, and the madness inducing script is just icing onto the moldy cake! It’s worth a watch if you can somehow dig up a copy. I’ll give this a bloody recommendation!
