FREEDIVING in Moalboal
Freediving is the underwater equivalent of trekking and hiking. It is a diving enthusiast way of appreciating the nature of marine gardens under the ocean. Freediving requires a lot of patience, discipline, and practice because it involves diving without any equipment to avoid scaring the fishes and stressing them out. Freediving is the rawest form of experiencing the deep blue see and its wonders.

I had to complete the story of my scuba diving adventure in Moalboal (the Philippines).  A blog post of the scuba diving in Moalboal was posted a long time ago, Moalboal: the Sardine Run after the Storm. It was incomplete without a post about Pescador Island. The Island was a marine sanctuary in the Tañon Strait. It took less than 20 minutes to reach the Island from Panagsama beach in Moalboal. Pescador was a Spanish word that means “fisherman,” named after the abundance of marine life surrounding the Island. The famous “Sardine Run” was around the island until they moved near to the coast. Unfortunately, the inhabitant island had rocks around its beach that kept the boat unable to land.
Tumblr media
There are four dive sites around the Island. However, the most popular one is called “the Cathedral,” although some scuba divers who’ve been there said it should be named as “the Chapel.” We went to Pescador Island on the following day after the storm. We thought the dive will be canceled after the storm, but diving business in the Philippines still kept ongoing.
We did two dives around Pescador, at the dive sites Cathedral and Drop-off. The sea was calm, but lots of leaves, wooden logs, and branches were floating around the Island. I guess they were carried by the stormwater into the sea. I was in doubt seeing this floating debris, it did not look safe enough to jump into the sea. Our divemaster who led the scuba divers group convinced us that below the surface, the water would be calm and less storm debris. He was right. We jumped into deep water, and there was hardly marine debris from the storm. The water was peaceful and beautiful colorful corals was our first sight.

Surprisingly there were still numerous fishes from scorpionfish to the small coral fishes that I had no ides of their species names.

The second dive at a dive site called “Drop-off” was impressive as well. There were more soft corals than the fishes, could not help to take lots of pictures of these colorful corals.

It’s possible as well to snorkel around the island by taking a boat trip from Panagsama beach. If you were lucky, you might have seen turtles as well, unfortunately, we did not see any during our dives. Overall, I recommend to scuba dive in Pescador Island, as for snorkeling, it’s best not to snorkel after the storm 🙂

Moalboal and Panagsama Beach
Moalboal is laid back little town in Cebu. At Panagsama beach, located on a peninsula near Moalboal town, the mixture of expatriates and visiting drivers from all over the world living together with the friendly Filipino Residence of Moalboal creates quite a unique community.
Moalboal is foremost known as a place of great driving. the sleepy town lies on the west coast of Cebu, about 92km south of Cebu City. Panagsama has no big sand beach but rather a rockier beach which quikly gives way to a coral reef abundant with marine life. There are plenty places nearby Panagsama that offer picturesque tropical and sand beaches for sun worshippers. Basdiot or Panagsama beach is covered with corals which makes it not ideal for swimmers and sunbathers. On the other side, the coral covered drop-offs and abysmal walls divers covet so much are just a few fin-kicks away, which makes it a prime destination for scuba divers and snorkelers. Panagsama beach is really peaceful and will definitely make you feel relax which makes it a perfect place to relieve stress. You can smell the wonderful essence of the beach, you can hear the sea breeze and feel the happiness of the people around you.
The place is very wonderful and it makes me want to encourage many people to feel what I felt when I went there. It is definitely the perfect definition of the nature's beauty. Lastly, I want people to know and be more knowledgable about our nature's beauty and how we can enhance and make it more beautiful. Let's not make our nature feel helpless, instead let's gather up and make ourselves be more proud for having this kind of nature's beauty.

Here's a positive review for Smooth Cafe located in Moalboal, Cebu:
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 5/5 Stars
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Smooth Cafe in Moalboal, Cebu, and I must say, it was an unforgettable experience. As a vegetarian, finding a place that serves tasty and satisfying options can be challenging, but Smooth Cafe exceeded all my expectations with their delicious vegetarian falafel!
The falafel was perfectly seasoned and had a delightful crunch on the outside while being moist and flavorful on the inside. The combination of fresh vegetables, creamy tahini sauce, and warm pita bread made it a mouthwatering delight that left me craving for more.
What made my evening even more enjoyable was the fantastic live band music they had. The ambiance was just right – not too loud, allowing for enjoyable conversations with friends, yet lively enough to create a vibrant and enjoyable atmosphere.
The staff at Smooth Cafe were friendly, attentive, and made me feel right at home. The service was prompt, and they were more than happy to cater to dietary preferences and answer any questions we had about the menu.
The location of Smooth Cafe is also perfect. Situated in the heart of Moalboal, it's easy to find and provides a great spot to relax and unwind after a day of exploring the beautiful surroundings.
I highly recommend Smooth Cafe to locals and tourists alike. Whether you're a vegetarian or not, the tasty falafel and the live band music will undoubtedly leave you with a smile on your face. I can't wait to visit again on my next trip to Cebu! 🎶🥙🎸

A Little Trivia about The Philippine Tarsier: Tarsiers are shy and a nocturnal animal that lead a mostly hidden life. In fact, they sleep in dark hollows close to the ground, near tree trunks and shrubs deep in the impenetrable bushes and forests during the day. They become active only at night. With their keen sight, they are able to manoeuvre around trees to avoid humans. Tarsiers habitually cling vertically to trees and are able to leap from tree branch to another. Due to their unexplainable shyness, the Philippine tarsiers are considered suicidal. If you are planning to visit them in the conservatory, please do not linger too much to watch them. No flash photography. No touching. Every life created by the Great Creator has its own behavior. Even tarsiers have their own. - @jakktravelservices #boholtarsiers #respect #noflashphotography📷 #nolingering #cmsticketingtourssouvenirs #explore_Philippines #explore_bohol #explorecebusouth #explorer #Moalboal #its_more_fun_in_the_Philippines #wow_Philippines #byahe_ni_Drew #KMJS #travelislife #travel_on_a_budget #discover_Scuba_Diving #wonderful_places #jakktravelservices (at Panagsama Beach) https://www.instagram.com/p/BxMHd72AwDs/?igshid=1ixsenakp746h
