Update from the guy dealing with that xurkitree thing: My palosand managed to knock it out! I am now wondering if it would be legal for me to keep it?

I mean, it's legal, the Rangers can't stop you, but the question here is if you can take care of a 3-meter-tall wire beast. I can give you some advice but honestly, I'm not very knowledgeable in UB care.

Xurxitrees feed upon electricity, and not like your usual Joltik sapping a bit of energy from an outlet, I mean industrial levels of electricity. Their biology is not fully understood yet, and their personality is... an enigma, to say the least, but they are a beast in combat. All they lack in sociability they compensate in extremely powerful Electric-type attacks; so if you're looking for an -honestly OP- addition to your battling team and not a house companion, it's your lucky day!

I'm... Not sure if they're legal to use in Gym Gauntlets and Champion Cups tho.

I couldn't sleep, so I made a list of pokemon teams for Avatar the Last Airbender.

TEAM AVATAR

Aang- Bouffalant (Appa), Emolga (Momo), Flygon (earth), Charizard (fire), Togetic/kiss or Alteria? (air), Mantine (water)

Katara- Lapras, Froslass (to represent the Painted Lady), Chansey (healing), Tentacruel? (poison type to represent bloodbending?), Primarina? (Starter?), Basculegion (to represent her tribe and their losses for which she fights)

Sokka- Lucario (given to him as a Riolu by Suki), Tyrogue (might evolve into Hitmontop, might not evolve at all), Ursaluna (given to him as a teddiursa by Yue), Minior (to represent the meteor he made his sword out of. Probably blue color, but maybe shiny?), Samurott (his starter probably), Klinklang (to represent his tinkering skills)

Toph- Excadrill (badgermoles, obviously), Steelix (metalbending), Machamp (her championship title), Tinkaton, Gallade (given to her as a Ralts by her parents as a kind of "seeing eye pokemon" that she turned into a fighter. Kept an everstone on it until she joined the gaang), Bewear (another gift from parents, but this time as more like a bodyguard.)

Zuko- Pyroar M (prince), Doublade (swords), Ceruledge (blue spirit), Annihilape (anger issues), Alolan Marrowak (mom issues), Kommo-o (dragon)

Suki- Mienshao, Urshifu (I want her to have 3, but couldn't think of a good 3rd one, except maybe she has both forms of Urshifu?)

Iroh- Drampa (old man/dragon, often underestimated), Turtonator (fire dragon), Polteageist (tea), Emboar (they have the same body type lol), Darmanitan (zen), Kingambit (I know pai sho isn't chess, but it's the closest we got, ok?)

Ozai- Houndoom, Infernape, Moltres? (The comet?), Magmortar, Zoroark (trickery), Mabosstiff?

Azula- Luxray, Pyroar F, Morpeko, Jolteon, Flareon, Chandelure? (Blue fire)

• Use Hypnos in Ba Sing Se for the conspiracy

• Foggy Swamp Tribe use mostly Ludicolo line, Carnivine, Poliwag line, and Tangrowth lines, but any swampy pokemon will do. Bugs are common.

• As Lee, Zuko only uses his Doublade and Marrowak

• I want Spark Sparky Boom Man to use an Unown with a max power psychic type Hidden Power, but I don't know enough about Hidden Power mechanics to be sure that would work.

• Does penguin sledding use Delibird, Eiscue, or the Piplup line? These are the important questions!

• I purposefully made it so only the main characters/bad guys had more than 3 pokemon.

• I almost gave Zuko a Rayquaza, but he wouldn't have a legendary until he becomes Fire Lord

• Except for the Bouffalant, all Aang's pokemon can fly. (Regional varient that can fly?)

• As he is the Avatar, should all Aang's pokemon be shiny?

• Azula's crew all have an eeveelution. Azula has two, and I imagine the flareon used to belong to Zuko, but it was taken from him after the Agni Kai and banishment.

• Ty Lee wants to keep her eevee unevolved. Azula might convince her to "make it more powerful." If she does, it'll be a Sylveon.

• Zuko and Azula's mom got both of them a litleo each as kids.

• Fire Nation mostly use fire types, but electric are common enough. Earth Kingdom is mostly ground and rock, but steel is ok. Air Nomads obviously use mostly flying, but fairy is common. Water Tribes use mostly water and ice, but obviously the swamp tribe uses grass.

• The Earth King still has just a bear. It's not a pokemon. It's a bear.

“I mean, yeah. I guess… you can.”

Most tourists don’t come in January. Well, of course, tourists come at most times of the year. But there’s a lot less of them, at least from late January to March. So, Ree hadn’t expected many haole to be out this way.

It’s Tuesday. Every Tuesday and Thursday, Ree comes out to the beach to feed the Palosand and Sandyghast. If Cynthia were to look at the supermarket bag in their hand, she could probably spot the corn dogs all piled up in there.

“I ain’t gonna be long. I’m just lookin’ for em.”

I feel like Steven's love of ruins and stones adds up to Spiritomb being a Pokémon he could have accidentally discovered as a child and bonded with, setting him up for his bond with Ghost Types. Golurk is a good wall and also fits in with the love of ruins theme.

Aegislash is a wonderful Steel Type and I think just generally goes with Steven's vibe very well? And Dhelmise has Steelworks which essentially makes it Ghost Grass AND Steel Type. And Gholdengo is made when lots of coins have been collected. I can see Steven collecting these strange coins for a Gimmighoul with great enthusiasm. And last of all Palosand. It has pretty sea shells and rocks on it :) Also Mossdeep has a beach so it makes sense to have a beach based Pokémon.

Chapter 9

After a few more turns and an elevator trip later you said your goodbye to the tall man.

Awkward silence filled the space around you, at least on your end.

"So who are you again? I don't remember hearing about you from the briefings."

"Oh, I uh came here with Cyrus."

The grunt scrunched his face.

"The creepy antisocial guy?"

You blinked, it didn't occur to you that other people might not like Cyrus. You assumed his control over time and space would give him all kinds of leverage.

"Is that how everyone around here feels about him?"

"Mostly yeah I don't understand half the things he says. Not like I want to anger a guy who has dialga and palkia."

Oh this was great! Maybe you could get a few grunts on your side!

"I wanted to see if I could go outside. It's really stuffy in here. But I need an escort."

"You've got to me kidding me."

"Just for a little bit, I need some fresh air. It's so stuffy in here!"

"No! I don't have time for this!"

You slumped maybe you could try later. No! You wanted to get out of here right? Grow a better backbone. If you could yell at Cyrus and live you could get this grunt to listen to you!

"Need I remind you I came with Cyrus?"

The sound of waves sounded heavenly to you. When was the last time you had been to a beach? It felt so unreal, you reached down and grabbed the sand, letting it fall through your fingers.

You chuckled to yourself guess there were some perks being connected to the galactic boss. You side eyed the grunt behind you looking every bit like a child pouting.

"Hey, you need to be careful out here, sandyghast and palosand tend to hang around beaches.

"What?"

The rainbow rocket grunt rolled his eyes

"There's ghost types that live in the sand, they suck your soul out or something. Just be careful okay?"

"Right of course."

You looked out at the sea, it felt so good to see wide open spaces that were not filled with floating islands. You sighed letting the stress wash away.

You glanced at your 'bodyguard' who stared right back.

"What?"

"Nothing, you seem to know a lot about the beach here. Do you live around here?"

The grunt eyed you suspiciously.

Yeesh tone the probing down.

"I'm just trying to make conversation. Didn't mean to offend you or anything."

The man sighed.

"No, I just like to read in my spare time. It's also helpful to learn about the place you're staying in."

"Where are we anyway?"

"The Alola region, a bunch of small tropical islands near each other."

"I never been to a tropical island before. I'm from Sinnoh it's a lot colder over there. Even our warmest town isn't this hot."

You bent down playing with the water as the waves lapped at your hand.

"Hmm"

"It's nice."

Footsteps faded behind you, was he leaving you unattended?

You stared out into the ocean, you looked to your right. Noticing an island in the distance. You smiled, imagine if you tried to swim there right now. You wouldn't make it even halfway, even if sharpedos didn't exist. You needed a water type that you could ride. It wouldn't do to get injured and dragged back to Cyrus. Like you'd give him another advantage.

The Footsteps soon came back, you glanced back at the grunt. A black blob was shoved in your face, your heart leap as you scrambled back. Your eyes adjusted to the thing in front of you.

Pink pins and a cotton-like tail were the next things you noticed, with dots for eyes blinking up at you.

What in the world?!

"This is a pyukumuku, fed him once and he hasn't left me alone since."

The pyukumuku squeaked in agreement. Bobbing as much as it could. The grunt set it on the ground. The both of you watched it eagerly hop over to the grunt, hopping in circles around his boots.

"Why don't you catch him? He really likes you."

"Hes too weak and they don't evolve as far as I know. He'd just be taking up space. I was kinda hoping it'd latch onto you. Since you're alone and all, clearly that's not happening."

You ignored the last comment, content on watching the small pokemon.

The pukumuku just continued to nuzzle the grunts boots. The poor thing seemed oblivious to the fact that the grunt had no interest in it.

"Ah swablu stop that you've had enough treats."

Swablu chirped away, hopping around you.

Stopping a few times to pull at your clothes. Big watery eyes pleaded at you.

Aww.

"*Sigh* alright just one more."

Jealousy burned in your chest, here was this pokemon, clearly just wanted him to love it back. And, and he just took it for granted!

"Yeah."

You stayed out for a good half hour before trudging back to your prison. You stared at the intimidating building, they didn't even try to make it subtle. Well when you have so many powerful people in one spot, who could stop you?

You entered the building, the grunt shutting the door on the small strangler following you. The cool air hit you, the sound of the sea cut off in favor of the sound of lights buzzing above you.

"Here I'll escort you back."

You stared at your door, you couldn't let your only connection on getting out of here leave. You'd be back at square one.

"Isn't there anything I can do, it's boring staying up in my room."

The grunt growled.

"Listen I'm not your babysitter! I got things I have to do."

"Sorry."

You were just outside maybe it was better not to push, at least not yet. Clearly you'd have to lower his guard down first. In the off chance you saw him again.

The grunt grumbled, pulling you out of your internal thoughts.

"You can borrow some of my books...I'll bring them up. Anything you're interested in?"

Oh maybe you could make this work.

"Thank you, uh any books on local pokemon would be great. Maybe I can convince Cyrus to let me have another one."

You still both stood in front of your room.

The awkward air lifted a bit, you gave the grunt a thankful smile.

"Right I'll do that...bye."

You closed the door behind you, a grin slowly started to spread on your face. The first step of your plan was a success! So you were in the Alola region, which were made up of islands. You kinda wished you had paid more attention to geography in class. But that didn't matter right now, well it would, ah nevermind. You could just island hop, even with Cyrus using palkia you were sure you could escape!

From what you could see the islands in the distance made of a lot of thick jungle. Good for hiding, but most likely chalk full of pokemon. Pokemon you had no info on. It was dangerous enough going into a forest knowing the local wildlife. You weren't about to die when freedom was so close. Hopefully that grunt would come back soon with those books so you could see what you were working with.

You'd need a pokemon to go with you. No way could you leave without one. You would have to find where team rocket kept all their pokemon. Surely they had extra when they had to recruit.

Well nothing a little more snooping couldn't fix.

it's been a really nice week. pretty happy with how everything is turning out, the research paper is actually in it's revision phase, so me and burnet can move forward once that's done! bastion just evolved into a palosand, and he's so cute! he's a bigger guy now, he evolved when i was getting attacked by a wild raticate.

kukui and i have been getting lunch a lot lately, and i've started helping out at the pokemon school with him! it's a good experience to get closer to him and to expand my own horizons! he's also asked me if i'd like to help with the pokemon league, but i had to decline, those days are behind me.

Also pkmn Aus/crossovers/"just deciding to give this character a little critter" type of art are always treasures but your matches are just so well done and fun ??? I'm in love w Dio's snooty ass furfrou and Alice's Espeon matches her energy really well and you can ignore this bit but besides the obligatory mimikyu rec for K ( for ig obvious reason ) I can see him w a Wooloo ? also you can probably guess hunting roaring moon is how i ended up with three shiny zweilous :B

two of those zweilous, the second maschiff, the psyduck (evolved into golduck) and the orthworm i surprise traded away as i didn’t need multiples or they were pokemon i was just kinda ‘eh’ about. actually pretty ‘eh’ about sandygast/palosand, but since she was my first shiny in gen 9, i kept her.

the sandygast, psyduck, honchkrow, rockruff, chewtle, and tarountula were all full-odds! the rest i either hunted/bred or randomly encountered after having gotten the shiny charm.
