Title: food
Fandom: palia
Characters: Ashura, Reth, tish, Jel
Fic type: fluff
Pairings: Reth x reader
Warnings: male reader, reader insert, omegaverse, cute, courting, Omega male reader
Notes: trying to get in the swing of writing so sorry if it's weird
Summary: Reth realized (name)s been courting him and figures out what to return the fashionable Omega
🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸
Reth never knew what to do with the prim and proper brother of Jel, the Omega constantly giving him little gifts that he made which was typically clothes. The clothes were pretty nice and fit perfectly, Reth often seen in the nice vests or in the nice chefs coat with his name embroidered on it and the little details showed time and care. Every week it was something new, a new shirt, new pants and even socks, all with his name embroidered somewhere on it.
"Another piece?" Tish asked her brother curiously "yeah, not sure why though" Reth mumbled and the Omega girl took the shirt and sniffed "it's scented... Oh my goodness" she realized and Reth raised an eyebrow "what?" Panic laced in his voice while his sister analyzed it.
"Reth these are courting gifts"
Hah?
"I'm sorry what?"
"(Name) Has been courting you for months" she stared at him back and Reth froze "what do I do with this?" He whispered, having never recieved a courting gift from anyone let alone someone like (name). He was a high class Omega, fancy tastes and all that stuff... Reth was well... Him. "Do you like him back?" Tish asked curiously, clearly invested in this while Reth looked a little flustered "I always thought he was out of my league?" Despite being flirty and pretty cocky, (name) had an affect on people and Reth was no exception; the omega was perfect in every way.
He dressed like a doll, never dirty and seemed high maintenance like Jel and It was pretty intimidating honestly.
Reth didn't reply to her but Tish could figure out the answer pretty quickly, her brother was in love.
-
Reth watched (name) help his brother bring fabrics into the shop, dressed in a puffy dress shirt and vest along with tailored pants and shiny loafers.
What does he like?
What would he want?
"Ah, young love" Ashura teased, causing Reth turn to look at him flustered "you were mated, how did you do it?!" His words rushed and worried, causing the large man to chuckle "you mean courting? Well I made Sabine something that made her think of me... Maybe try cooking something?" Ashura offered his advice and Reth looked at (name) who was having a sibling squabble with his brother "but he's so fancy... Would that even cut it?" Ashura has never seen him like this, clearly wanting to make a good impression.
"Reth, that young man looks at you like you hung the moon, he's in love with you for you... Hell you didn't even realize he had feelings and just acted like you for so long!" Reth eased up a bit at the man's words "you just go out there and be yourself" Ashura Pat his back before leaving the young alpha alone to figure out his thoughts.
He's known (name) for years, the Omega was one food driven pretty boy and Reth was ready to put that to the test.
What he wasn't expecting was (name) to show up half way through cooking "what are you cooking?" The Omega asked curiously, leaning over the bar to see the ingredients "(food)?" Reth chuckled at the Omega, he hadn't expected it to work THAT well "well there goes the surprise!" (Name) Was confused at his words "why would you be making me food...?" The cogs turned in the man's head before realization sprung "you accept?"
"Took me a while to realize what you were doing... It's not a traditional courting gift but I hope you enjoy" putting the food on/in a plate/bowl, he watched (name) marvel at the dish "you made me a meal... Thank you alpha"
Fuck.
Reth was not expecting that, his face growing flustered and (name) ate happily, leaning forward as to not ruin his outfit and completely unaware of the effect he had on Reth.
"Can I have more?"
"You're done already?!"

A lost Tau leads to Romance
Description: Tau runs away from Hassian to visit you!
Warnings: None! This is a sfw fanfic!!
Pairing: Hassian x Gender Neutral reader!
Author's note: I love Hassian so much dude, only reason I play Palia for real <3 /hj. I've only been playing it for awhile so I'm using Palia wiki for info and what I've come across in game! I also see no fanfiction for this game and I'm gonna change that 1 fanfic at a time!!
The night was still, the only sound the gentle rustle of leaves in the wind. You had just settled in for the evening when you heard it—a soft scratching at the front door. At first, you dismissed it as the branches of the nearby tree brushing against the wood. But then, it came again, more insistent this time. Curiosity got the better of you, you hesitated, hand hovering over the handle. With a deep breath, you flung the door open, expecting to see something horrific. But it was just
"Tau? what are you doing here boy?" You ask. He turns his head to you, tongue hanging out. "where's Hassian?" You look around the dark abyss that was the woods around your house, the only light being your garden lantern you set out when you first moved in and a few stray lightning bugs. No hassian in sight.
"Come on in" You open the door for Tau, he trots on in; tail wagging behind him. "He's probably worried about you Tau" Said plumehound raises an ear up at his name, turning around and barking at you.
"You're no help" You deadpan. "Guess you're staying the night, you're lucky you're cute" You joke. Tau jumps on your bed, yawning and walking around in a circle till he lays down. "Glad you're comfortable Tau" You walk over to the bed, turning your ceiling light off as you walk past. You plop down on the mattress, jostling Tau as you move under the covers. You close your eyes and drift off, your thoughts filled with that pretty hunter named Hassian. (Completely cause you're worried about Tau and not at all cause of other things).
You wake up to hot air being blown on your face, really stinky hot air if you were to be honest. You peek your eyes open to see Tau's snout in your face, his tongue hanging out as he breathes on you. You push his face away gently. "I'm up! I'm up!" He makes a noise as if he's laughing at you. You glare at him. "I got some left over sernuk meat, if you want breakfast" You tell him, he yips in excitement; jumping off of you and sitting patiently near your kitchen counter. "I'll take that as a 'yes please (name)'" You get up, shivering at the cold of your floors; you dig around under your bed for your house slippers. You silently cheer as you find them, dragging them out and slipping your feet into them. Tau huffs at you in impatience as he watches you "slowly" move around your kitchen, he clearly wants the sernuk meat he was promised.
Hassian trudged up the pathway that leads to the gate of your mountain home, following plumehound prints (ones that clearly belong to Tau, cause who else has a plumehound besides him). He slowly closes the gate as he walks up to your front door, listening around for Tau's barks as he knocks. You look up from your stove as hard knocks sound through your house, you walk over to the door; Tau padding behind you as his hair raises up in warning. You open the door to see Hassian!
"Oh Hassian! Perfect timing, I think this is yours" You joke as you move out the way of Tau. He barks at Hassian as he runs up to him. Hassian sighs out in relief.
"Thank you for taking care of him (name)" He says, scratching Tau's ears.
"It's really no problem. I'll take of him anyday. Speaking of taking care of him, I was just about to give him some sernuk meat. Wanna come in and eat with us?" You ask him, hoping he'll say yes. He looks you over as he thinks, his eyes going from you to the happy plumehound next to you.
"Sure, why not" He says, walking into your house as you move aside to let him in. He sets his quiver on the floor near your coat rack, walking over to your kitchen table. You close the door and walk over to the stove, grabbing the packaged sernuk meat and taking one of the raw steaks; holding it out for Tau. He walks over and snatches it from your hand, scarfing it down. Hassian holds in an amused chuckle. You look over at him as you put the other steaks away, grabbing ingredients to make a nice Veggie fried rice.
"He scared the crap out of me last night, I was reading letters that i got from everyone and he was scratching at my door like some crazed chapaa" You tell him, getting a bowl to wash your rice in. He looks down at Tau and then back at you, a small smile on his face at the look on Tau's face at being called a crazed chapaa. You turn the faucet off and put the bowl of fresh washed rice up, grabbing your cutting board and some veggies.
"So how much do I owe you?" Hassian asks, reaching into his pockets to grab out a small pouch of gold coins.
"You don't owe me anything, You company is payment enough Hassian." You tell him, putting the vegetables in a pot of broth. He looks at you questionably, putting the pouch away slowly. Your face warms the longer he stares at you, you cough awkwardly as you pour the rice into the broth/veggie mixture. He looks away from you, his face a dark purple. Tau looks at the both of you with his head tilted to the side, questioning you two.
"well then!" You clap your hands, putting 2 bowls on the table and sitting down. "Here you go Hassian!"
"thank you" He mutters, grabbing a spoon and dipping it into the fried rice. Tau whines at him and headbutts his leg. Hassian looks at him and then back at you. "Hey uh (name) would you like to go with me on my next hunt?" He asks, not making eye contact. You look at him, your face flushing.
"I'd love to Hassian" You whisper to him. He looks up at you wide eyes for a second before he "fixes" his face and stature.
"Cool. Cool Cool Cool" He says, face palming in his head. You smile.
"Cool. Cool Cool Cool" You repeat, giggling.
HOPE YOU LIKE IT CAUSE IT TOOK ME A FEW HOURS <3
My creative juices did not flow for this one
LOVE YA

Posted on Ao3 Here Pairing: Hodari Pavel x Reader Word Count: 3k Rating: E NSFW
It’s fairly early in the morning as Hodari makes his way up the steep path behind the village. The magistrate "recruited" him in the effort of cleaning up the old plots in the back of the valley so they have a place to put all the humans now that the inn is full to bursting. Honestly it had been for weeks now but no one really knew what to do with the humans at first. The emerging flow of the once extinct race had been nonstop and while it's starting to taper a bit, it’s become his problem as well. Day and night he can hear them running about outside his house in the bay and he's prit near at his wits end. Poor Najuma is overwhelmed at the sheer number of them and he himself is losing what few precious hours of sleep a night he can get. Maybe getting these set up and livable will give them something to focus on that's not running wild and bothering him and his daughter in the early hours of the morning.
As he approaches the plot of the day, he groans at the sight of it. Not only rocks and overgrowth scattered everywhere that has his back already aching at the thought of clearing up, but a mountain of discarded refuse at its center. What an absolute mess. Running a hand down his face, he decides to do a quick walk around the entirety of the plot, checking the structural soundness. Silently he’s hoping it's too dangerous and would be buried in mud and he can just condemn it and move onto the next one with, hopefully, less of a mess to clean up from the previous owner’s vacancy.
No such luck though as he completes his lap around, finding it perfectly safe and still a mess. Taking a deep breath, he gets to work. Clearing out a bit of space near the center and moving all the trash to one pile. He’s about to start clearing a few of the smaller trees when he hears footsteps coming up the path behind him followed by the quiet creak of the old gate. He turns around to find a very lost looking human glancing around, a slightly crushed map and cheap axe gripped tightly in their hands with a look of apprehension clear on their features at the sight of the plot in front of them. He sympathizes before waving a hand in greeting to get the human’s attention so as not to spook them anymore than they are and going over to introduce himself.
“Hi there. Hodari Pavel, of Pavel Mining. And who might you be?" He asks the newcomer.
"Y/n." comes the gentle reply. “A man named Ashura sent me for a pickaxe, am I in the right place?” Your voice is smooth as silk and sends a shiver down his spine. He hadn’t had the chance to talk to many of the humans one on one yet, much less one that looks so clearly new. Have they all spoken like this?
“Y/n, huh? Interestin’ name… Yeah, y'are. Ashura said he might send a few of you newfolk my way while I’m getting these set up. I see you've got an axe already. Here’s your pick..” He says as he hands you the pickaxe. “Well if you're currently without a home and lookin' for one, then this one's about ready for use if you want it. It’s a fixer upper for sure and needs a bit more work. But it’s as good a home as any.”
He watches as you take in the information, looking around at what’s been handed to you. It’s no silver platter he supposes but it’s better than nothing, glancing at the mess behind him he hesitates. Well, a step up from nothing at least, wouldn’t be his first choice either. He turns attention back to you when he hears you asking a few clarifying questions and concerns.
He listens intently as the words drip so casually from the newest human’s lips, they may as well have been comments about the weather with the ease in which you express your unease at the situation you've found yourself in. His eyes fixated on your mouth, watching how it moves. How it curls gently around the words that slip from your tongue. The same tongue that wets your lips before worrying your bottom lip with your teeth. He forces himself to look away and focus on what's being asked of him.
“I suppose I’ll take it, not many other choices around.” You tell him, leaning to look at the pile behind him. “What am I supposed to do about... all that though?”
He crosses his arms and looks back too. “Well, you did just happen to find yourself the proud new owner of some shiny tools that happen to be just right for the job. Tell ya what, I’ll show ya how to use those new handy things’a yours. And you can help me clear this place up, yeah? Two sets of hands work faster than one.”
You nod in agreement. He picks up his own pick but he hesitates for a moment as you watch him, intense curiosity burning like flame behind your eyes as he hands over the spare pickaxe and begins demonstrating how to use it both safely and efficiently. It sends a wave of tension down his spine, as though someone had taken ice and trailed it down the curve of his back, it almost burns. A gaze of liquid fire with an unknowing intensity focused solely on him and his movements, a miniature sun scorching only him.
'Born of phoenix flame, Embra’s children’ he remembers Chayne saying once when the humans first started appearing at the feet of phoenix in the old shrine. He had initially written off the man's words as more of expected spirituality. But as the burn of curiosity from the human’s eyes, Maji your eyes , turns his own cheeks a light crimson, one he hopes is covered by the exertion of the physical labor, he admits to himself the sage may be onto something. He almost feels dissected, your eyes seemingly boring into his very being, the feeling of being taken apart and observed as one would an object they’re tinkering with. He can feel the heat burning up behind his collar now. You look away as something to the side catches your attention and he feels like he can breathe again.
From the corner of his, he watches as the newest humans eyes shift around, they're striking. He's seen humans come in all shapes, sizes, and colors at this point but he's never really paid attention to any of their eyes. Are all of them like this? He doesn't think so. He can’t recall such a fiery curiosity from any of them before. Maybe because he wasn’t one of the first to meet them when they stumbled their way into town, he’ll have to ask around. As you turn your attention back to him, he feels more equipped to handle the burn this time. Your curiosity turns to understanding and then to determination in a blink of an eye and he almost misses it.
“Can I have a try?” he hears you call out and he stops, straightening back up.
“Be my guest.” He gestures at the plot around him. Watching on the sideline as you grab the axe first. After chopping a few of the smaller trees, he notices you stop to rub your palms in between before continuing. After seeing you decide you got the hang of it, he observes as you grab the pick next, your rouged palms contrasting the wooden handle, and it becomes very apparent to him a problem he hadn’t considered before.
He lets you mine your first rock before stopping you, not wanting to interrupt at first. He takes the pick from you and grabs your wrist in his hand, not unkindly, as he looks down at smooth flesh and hums.
This time he intentionally seeks your eyes. “When did you appear here? Have you been staying at the inn for a few days?”
“Just before I came up here.” you respond softly, confused. “Some girl told me to talk to a man named Ashura and that man gave me a map and an axe and told me to come speak to you.“
He curses lightly under his breath, “So you're new new then? No wonder your hands are hurtin’ ya. Haven’t been around existing long enough to break them in yet. Here.” He lets go of your wrist and slides his gloves off, handing them to you. “Put those on and give it a try now. See if it helps any.”
As you pull his gloves on he feels a wave of unexpected possessiveness. It catches him off guard as you grab your pick and try again. This time he follows your motions a few times before stepping up behind you, stopping your hands while they're still raised in the air.
“Here, like this.” He moves your hands to a better grip near the hilt of the handle, sliding his hands down your arms, adjusting them as he goes. With his hands on your shoulders he twists them before holding firmly in place. Gently, he kicks your feet further apart to create a sturdier stance. Stepping back half a step, he gives you a once over before nodding and leaning closer to speak softly. “Try now.” The shiver that runs down your body is mirrored in his and he quickly retreats.
Now, as he follows your movements he finds them much smoother and full of power. He can tell you do as well, a smile lighting your face as the rock shatters beneath your swing. He grabs his own pick and goes to help you clear the various debris, sneaking glances as the two of you work. ‘Its just to check your form. Make sure you're being safe’ he tries to justify to himself but every now and then when he steals a look he swears he can see you looking back. He’s not quite sure what’s happening but he needs to wrap this up and quickly before he makes a fool of himself in front of the new human.
Soon enough the plot is bare of the unwanted obstacles and he’s taking care of all his things. He hears you clear your throat behind him and turns around to see you holding his gloves back out to him.
“Thank y-.” You begin but he holds his hand up and shakes his head.
“Keep ‘em, they're yours now. I have a million and one pairs just like ‘em back home.”
“Thank you for all your help today, Mr. Pavel. Please know it doesn’t go unappreciated.” The sound of your voice feels like liquid sin washing over him.
“Hodari, please.” He manages to stutter out. “Mr. Pavel was my father.” He tries to joke and your laughter fills the plot, echoing off the trees. Heat shoots straight down him and once again he finds himself thinking you must be fire itself incarnate, dangerous. The flame in your eye is back as you look at him with a face full of mirth, joy still radiating off your features so bright he has to look away.
“Okay then, Hodari . So what happens now?”
“Well, I suppose you should start makin’ this place a home. Got space enough and plenty of materials to drop a worktable and a storage chest to put your belongings in down. Pitch your tent and well... you'll figure the rest out. You seem bright enough.”
He’s probably imagining it but you almost look disappointed as he’s not sure why. Turning back around and reaching into his bag, he pulls out the lunch he put there this morning. As he faces you again he holds it out expectantly for you to take. “Here, minin's hungry work, so you better take this too. My daughter says I need to eat healthier, but you'll get more use outta it. Can’t have ya starvin’ on your first day alive can we?” You both chuckle as you take it from him.
Without anything to hold, his hands feel empty and he's no longer sure what to do with them. You take pity on him and hold your hand out.
“It was nice to meet you, Mr. Pavel.” A bit of mischievousness behind your eyes at the title. He reaches out in return to grab your hand in his.
“Likewise, the pleasure has been all mine, y/n. If ya need anything don't hesitate to reach out, my daughter and I live just on the other side of Kilima out in Bahari Bay.”
You squeeze his hand a bit as they’re still connected and the heat from earlier comes rushing back. Looking up at him from beneath your eyelashes, the sight steals his breath away. “I will.” You softly respond. He drops your hand as though you burned him, maybe you did.
“I- I’ll see ya around.” He flounders before turning on his heel and leaving back out the gate as quickly as societally appropriate before you can get a chance to respond in kind.
Hodari gets home in record time, scrapping any and all plans to work on any of the other plots on his to-do list today. Doing a quick scan to make sure the house is empty before making a beeline to his own room. The door is barely shut before he's leaning his back against it for support as he hurriedly unzips his coveralls, unceremoniously shoving his hand down his boxers. Giving himself a few squeezes before pulling his cock out, hissing as it's exposed to the cool air. He tips his head back, uncaring of how it cracks against the aged splintered wood as he rolls his balls between his fingers before he starts quickly stroking his cock.
"Thank you, Mr. Pavel" rings through his head. Your calm voice echoing through his mind as he strips his cock like his life depends on it. They're words. Just words. Air and vibration, they shouldn't mean anything. You didn't mean anything. It wasn't meant to do this to him. Thinking of the sincerity in your voice has him groaning out and he presses the back of his hand against his mouth to muffle his voice. Maji, it shouldn't turn him on like this but even still he can't stop thinking about it. Thinking about you saying the same thing but spread on his bed this time, waiting for him after a long day down in the mines. What a pretty sight to come home to. Spreading you open and devouring you, fuck, leaving him with the taste of you on his tongue. He thinks of marking you along your thighs with his teeth, hand covering your mouth. Your muffled gasps, hushed moans and quiet whimpers leaking between his fingers as he tries to keep you quiet. The risk of getting caught adding nothing but fuel to the fire.
Speaking of fire, he thinks of the possessive burn that rushed through him seeing you wearing his gloves. He wants to feel that again, wants to possess and own. He imagines marking your thighs, a trail of beard burn down them as a reminder of the night before, a need clawing in him to make you unable to forget. It makes his cock twitch harder, his cheeks now flushed a deep crimson.
A shudder runs through him and he grips the base of his cock to stop an untimely finish to this before it's even really started. He hasn't done this in quite a while and doesn't know when he'll next get the chance again and he wants to enjoy this to the fullest extent while he can.
Releasing himself, he spits in his palm before starting again, slower this time. A looser grip as he moves his hand up and down in a steady rhythm. Squeezing his eyes tight against the feeling, breathing heavily. This time he thinks of you on their knees in front of him, looking up at him with those burning eyes as they lather worship along his cock. Grabbing your face, holding you still with your pretty lips wide open for him, tracing along them with his roughened fingers. Slipping them inside your waiting mouth, tracing your tongue before shoving them in as far back as he can, brutally testing your reflex as those lips close around them and suck. Imagining how it’d feel once he put his cock there. Mouth stuffed full, wet silky heat surrounding him, it makes a spike of arousal run through him. His mind supplies him with the sound of your wet gagging, choking as he shoves his cock as deep as he can. His hand speeds up in response to the mental image and he knows he won't last much longer. He thinks of emptying deep in your throat before you pull off, face covered in tears and saliva. ‘Thank you, Hodari .’
He's spilling over himself, gritted teeth as he works himself over, your name a gasp on his finishing breath. He slumps against the door, running his clean hand through sweaty hair. As he comes down from his high the evidence of what he's just done splattered across the ground and down his pants becomes clear to him. Fuck . A lick of shame floods through him, and he laughs a little unbelievably. He hasn't done something like this in years.
Grabbing a cloth to start cleaning his mess he can't help but wonder what that was, what you did to him. Shaking his head to clear it of the thought, “I must've been more stressed than I thought.”
Somewhere across the bay, unbeknownst to him, on a freshly cleared small plot of land a new human is lost in thoughts of a quiet, intense, and unfairly attractive miner. Wondering just what would happen if they got to know him with a little more.. familiarity.

Tish x Jel x Transmale reader
Warning: Smut MDNI, overstimulation, the word “clit” is used to describe reader
You laid on Jels bed, moaning as Tish thrusts her strap in and out of you
“Dragons..look at you, sweetheart, so pretty stretched around my strap”
She says, hands gripping your thighs and pushing them against your chest
“Yes, I must say you do look rather beautiful, Darling”
Jel said, who was standing on the side of the bed, fully clothed as he watched the two of you
“Please..”
You weren’t sure what you were begging for—Jels touch, a hand on your clit, anything
“Aw poor boy”
Tish chuckled, her beautiful smile showing. She kissed your calf before letting go of your thighs and sat up on her knees, your legs no longer trapped between her and your chest but now bent at her sides
“Jel would you be a dear and give him a kiss?”
Tish asked. Jel immediately bent down and kissed your lips. You grabbed his necktie and eagerly kissed him back, moaning into his month
“Do you want to cum, love?”
Jel ask after he pulled back, you nodded and looked at Tish for permission
“You can cum, lovely. Do you need Jel to touch you, hm?”
She asked, her thrusts slowing as she spoke
“Yes, please..need it”
You practically whined. Jel chuckled and slid a hand down to your clit, roughly rubbing circles, causing you to arch your back with a loud moan
“Come on, Sweetie, you can cum for us can’t you?”
Tish said, speeding her thrusts back up. The pit in your stomach grew
“Gonna cum, fuck..fuck!”
You came with a shout, one hand grabbing her thigh, and the other grabbed Jels unoccupied hand
“Think you can take a little more?”
Jel asked, intertwining his fingers with yours
“I-fuck I don’t-“
You whimpered at the overstimulation. Tish had slowed her hips to a stop, but Jels fingers still rubbed your overstimulated clit
“Now Jel, let’s not overwhelm him to much”
Tish said and pulled out, Jel hummed and removed his fingers from you
“Shh, breathe, sweetheart, It’s ok, we’re done. You did so well for us”
Tish praised you as she took up the strap and laid next to you, holding you close as your breathing calmed. Jel laid behind you and wrapped his arms around your waist, placing small kisses to the back of your neck
“Yes darling, you did so well, did everything Tish asked”
Jel said, you sighed with content, burying your face in Tish’s chest.

Fandom: palia
Characters: hassain, Reth
Fic type: smut
Pairings: Reth x hassain x male reader
Warnings: male reader, reader insert, top reader, plot? What plot, open no plot, smut, NSFW, bottom hassain
Notes: writing smut for once
Summary: hassains shit talking comes with consequences
🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸
(name) rolled his eyes while hassain ran his mouth again, shit talking Reth like it was his life goal and the chef in question seemed to be at his breaking point while (name) frankly just wanted him to shut up.
"Hassain, shut up before we make you shut up" (name) said to the man, having just finished his shift at his brother's clothing store and frankly wasn't in the mood.
"Yeah?" Hassain glared and looked at the tailor up and down "make me"
Hassain choked slightly on (name)s cock, resting his back over a fallen log while Reth kept himself nice and snug between his legs, the chef's cock pounding his stretched hole with a shit eating grin "god you're so fucking right..." Reth moved his hands to toy with the man's pectorals "all that hunting really gave you a cute pair of tits..." Pinching and rolling his nipples while (name) held onto his throat and fucked it thoroughly "this is what happens when you talk shit baby... You get--"another hard thrust"-- punished!" Reths mouth found one of hassains nipples and began sucking, hand moving to toy with his cock while he pounded into him.
Hassain could barely focus on their words, hands gripping Reths hair and (names) hip and desperately trying to meet the chefs hips, eyes crossing slightly while his prostate got smashed by the chef's mushroom tip "such a good boy, taking us so well" Reth mumbled pulling off his chest to focus on chasing that sweet high and put the hunters muscled legs over his shoulders to fuck harder, the cool air of the forest feeling frigid against his hot flesh.
"Tap once if you want me to cum down your throat, twice of you want it on your face baby" (name) commanded hassain who tapped twice "keep your tongue out" pulling his cock out, (name) stroked his cock a few times before cumming all over hassains face, the man gasping and moaning as Reth pulled out and came across hassains chest while the hunter came pathetically.
"You gonna be a good boy now?" (Name) Asked him sweetly, gently kissing his cum coated lips "good boys get more of this, wanna be our good boy?"
Hassain nodded, biting his lip and felt something wet clean him, looking to see Reth clean him with some stream water and his apron "not gonna lie, always had a thing for you despite your tongue..." Reth admitted and (name) nodded in agreement "wanted both of you to model my clothing for my eyes only" he said "didn't know who to ask out, now I don't gotta do that"
Hassain didn't know what to do, how did he get from shit talking in the inn to having two boyfriends...?
Too tired to care, he let (name) haul him on his back after dressing him and walking back to Reths apartment.

Hodari POV
The sun beats heavily off the stones, heat rising from the ground and into his boots as Hodari makes his way down the well-traveled path that connects the bay to the village. Raising his hand to his brow to shield his eyes from the brutal light, he debates going to the inn first before ultimately deciding to finish his work as quickly as possible to get it done and over with.
His first stop is, as always, to the town's resident blacksmith. “Hodari!” she calls from inside, raising her hand in greeting when she sees him approach. She lays her hammer down and wipes the sweat from her face as he enters the forge with her order of iron in tow. “It’s a scorcher out here today isn’t it?” she laughs as she takes the metal from him and he hums his assent. He watches as she takes it to her backroom and out of the way before turning back to him. “Oh! I’m not going to be needing my order tomorrow, so don’t worry about making the trip into town for me.”
He nods in acknowledgement, ‘saves me a trip tomorrow then’ he thinks before Sifuu starts speaking again. “That human that's decided to stick around, y/n, brought me some extra this morning and I won’t be able to fit anymore back there between their drop off and your delivery today. I’m all full up!” She laughs, reaching for her hammer to continue working.
“It’s no problem then. Frees up a mornin’ for me. Maybe I’ll sleep in for once.” and they both share a chuckle at how unlikely they both know that to be before Hodari says his good-byes.
Just as he’s about to head out Sifuu calls from behind her anvil, “You still coming to the inn this weekend? We are all planning on grabbing some lunch and taking a much needed break. It’s supposed to be even hotter, but that ain’t nothing a little ale and some good company can’t beat!” She laughs. “You can bring your girl to the tailor’s. Word down the vine is Jel’s been working on something for her as a little surprise since the last time she came into town to visit him and Tish, it’ll be good for the two of you to get out and socialize a bit. The mine’s can stay empty for half a day.” She says the last half just a little more serious and Hodari wonders how long she’s been holding it in as she’s not exactly known for her subtlety.
Hodari thinks about it seriously for a moment before nodding his head. She’s right, it’ll be good for Najuma to get away from the shop and have some actual social interaction every once in a while. “I’ll be there, don’t worry. It’ll be good catchin’ up while we all complain about how old we’re gettin’.” he chuckles before finally taking his leave to the sound of Sifuu’s booming laughter behind him.
His next stop is the Daiya’s farm to drop off a bit of iron Badruu had requested from him for some ‘repairs I can’t put off any more.’ Heading over the bridge and down the path a ways, he waves as the farmer comes into sight.
“Well howdy!” Badruu greets him as he walks up to the gate. “Got something for little ol’ me there?” He asks as he removes his hat to fan himself with it.
“Hot out here today, huh?” he comments, taking the metal Hodari hands over to him.
“That seems to be the general consensus.” Hodari agrees. “Crops are lookin’ good. See ya got some new ones sewn out the back there. Zeki finally lower his prices?” the miner huffs.
“Oh no,” the farmer rolls his eyes, “sky high as ever. But y/n brought some late last week as a thank you for the jam Delaila sent them home with. Awfully nice of ‘em don’t you think? They seem to be settling in here quite well. Have you had a chance to really talk with them yet?”
Hodari just hums but shakes his head, he hasn’t spoken to you at all since that night in the mines. You never stop to talk while he’s in town so he’s a little surprised at this new information. “Nah. ‘m not one for chattin’ much anyways. See 'em comin’ and goin’ from the mines at all kinds of unholy hours though. Sometimes they're still down there when I get there the next mornin’” ‘At least they’re making an effort to fit in’ he thinks as he remembers your little conversation about feeling out of place before he decides to change the topic. “How is Delaila doin’ anyways? Haven’t seen her or your boys recently, we’ve all been so busy.”
The famer laughs, “Tell me about it.” Before launching into what his family has been up to. He’s a family man at heart and Hodari has always respected that about him, it’s no secret the man gave up his dream path to settle down here to create what he has now. While he always knew he was going to be a miner, he understands the hard choices and sometimes sacrifices one makes for their loved ones. Looking at the farmer beam as he talks about how proud he is of his boys though, Hodari finds it hard to believe the man would have it any other way if given another chance. It makes his chest ache a bit as his friend talks about how he plans to surprise his wife with a nice date he’s been setting money aside for. She’ll love it he's sure, Delaila’s a hardworking woman and a spitfire in her own right, always keeping them on their toes. She deserves something nice.
After a few more minutes of catching up, the two men say their good-byes as they head off to continue their respective work, Hodari is sure to pass on that he’ll be at the inn this weekend so they can catch up a bit later before he starts heading back into the village. With no more orders to make, he heads straight for the inn for some lunch and to get out of the heat. He almost crashes into Auni as the kid rushes past, giant backpack too big for his small frame bouncing behind him, eager to get to his daily game of cards with Hassian behind the building. “Sorry Mr. Pavel!” he calls over his shoulder, not slowing down in the slightest and Hodari huffs out an amused breath. Najuma always seems to be in a rush too, no time to slow down for these kids.
Entering the inn has Hodari internally sighing as he gets out of the searing heat. Reth is behind the kitchen counter, already prepping his usual. He gives the kid a nod in greeting before walking over to greet Ashura who seems to be engrossed by something behind his own counter. As he gets closer, he can see the slice of pie the innkeeper is holding.
“Got yourself somethin’ sweet there?” Hodari asks as he watches the larger man go to take a bite. Ashura turns around laughing to greet the man as he sets the plate down.
“Can’t say no to a good slice of pie.” the older man rumbled. “Y/n baked it and dropped a fresh slice in for me and Reth. They really seem to be finding their place here after all these months. Can’t say I’m too upset with all the baked goods they’ve been dropping off in various attempts at cooking, especially recently. They’ve been catching on to how things work around here pretty quick.”
“So I've heard. Both Sifuu and Badruu were singing their praise when I stopped by. I’m-” Hodari stops when he hears Reth set his food out on the counter. He grabs his food and both men go take a seat, conversation about the new local human set aside.
Hodari starts eating his lunch and after awhile of enjoying one another's company in silence, Ashura asks how Najuma is doing. He sighs as he sets his fork down, leaning back in his chair. “I don’t know. She seems madder’n not these days and I don’t know what to do.” Ashura nods sympathetically as he talks. “It’s been harder to talk to her lately and you know I ain't exactly a beacon of open conversation myself. Just tryin’ to figure it out as I go along, I guess.”
Ashura shares in his worries over lunch and offers some advice from one father to another about angry teengers and the frustrations of parenting in general. By the time he’s leaving to head home, he feels a little lighter. He stayed longer than usual to avoid the sun's brutal attack at the peak of the day but as he faces the long trek home, he realizes that just means another long night in the mines and he has to bite back a groan. At least he doest have to make the trip out here for Sifuu tomorrow.
As he walks through town, he plays the conversations he’s had today over in his mind. So many things have changed since he first moved here, young and leaving behind his family to start his own. He passes the Daiya’s eldest son and raises his hand in greeting, ‘That kid has grown up so fast.’ he thinks. ‘They all have.’ When he moved out here with Leta all those years ago, he never quite pictured this would be his life now and wonders how she would feel about all the changes that have happened, especially recently with humans appearing out of thin air. Probably handle it a whole lot better than him, he’s never been one for change if he can help it. He wonders how she’d feel about the human that’s stuck around, everyone else seems to enjoy your company. She’d probably tell him to be nice and welcome you like everyone else has and he smiles at the thought of her standing there arms crossed calling him a grump and telling him to get over himself. A bit of a reminder that even as the world changes, some things would absolutely stay the same.
Soon enough, his wandering thoughts have led him to the gate that connects to the bay. The sun still shines bright and he figures he should probably make sure his daughter is staying cool and drinking water. He makes his way towards the pond, getting ready to call her over but stops when he realizes she isn’t there. A look up the hill shows that she’s not in the workshop either. Taking a sigh, he turns and heads towards the house. ‘She better not be in those damn mines again’ he thinks as he's pushing open the door to grab what he’ll need to go after her.
As soon as he opens the door though, he spots his daughter sitting on the couch with a whole blueberry pie in hand, getting ready to dig into it.
“Najuma, just what in the hell are you doing?” He asks, fumbling in his thoughts. He was sure she was causing trouble and trying to put him in an early grave with worry. Now he’s just confused where she got a pie. He knows he didn't pick one up and she hasn't shown any interest in baking, much less ventured all the way into town to get any of what she’d need for it.
Najuma freezes, caught red handed as she holds the forkfull of pie halfway to her mouth. “I wasn't gonna eat it all at once!” She immediately tries to defend herself.
“No. I-” He stops, collecting his thoughts, “One, where’d you get that? And two, why did you not put it on a plate?” He says grabbing the pie from her and walking into the kitchen to cut it. She follows behind him, eager for the treat before she gets back to work and she answers him as he reaches into the cupboard for a plate.
“Oh y/n brought it by! They said that I’ve been working so hard I deserve a snack!” She smiles as she takes the plate from him and sits down at the table this time, already taking a bite.
He shakes his head, leaning against the counter as he watches how she devours the slice of pie in front of him and feels a little pang as he realizes how much bigger she's gotten. Despite her small size, she's growing up so fast and he wishes he could freeze time for just a little bit. She’s already in her teens now and his back aches more at the thought. Soon she’ll be all grown up. For now, they're just a bit of a mess as they try to figure it out. He finds himself wishing again that Leta were here to help him and resigns himself to the fact it’s just going to be one of those days full of wanting and nostalgia. ‘Want in one hand’ and all that..
Pushing off from the counter he walks over and ruffles his daughter's hair, giving her a quick kiss on the top of her fiery head as he goes. “Daaaad.” She complains as he walks towards the door, chuckling. He reminds her only the one piece before dinner so she doesn't spoil her appetite before he’s out the door and heading towards the mines. During his walk he thinks about Najuma telling him you had been the one to bring the pie by. He’s confused why you would be coming all the way out here to talk to his daughter when he hardly sees you himself, much less have any sort of regular conversation with you. It makes a flare of protectiveness rise in his gut, he’s not sure he wants Najuma around a stranger. He decides he should think it over a bit more before deciding anything right now, you seem nice enough and while your only real conversation had been a bit awkward, no harm was done. Wanting to clear his mind of it for now, he heads into the mines, determined to make up for the bit of lost time today.
The next morning while making breakfast, he realizes he forgot to stop by the general store yesterday before coming home. ‘So much for not headin’ into town.’ he thinks bitterly as he sets the food between him and his daughter, letting her know he forgot some things yesterday and asking if she needed anything while he was there. He writes down what she needs and lets her know he won’t be staying in town today. After they finish breakfast he heads right out, itching to get there and get home.
Wasting no time, he heads straight to Zeki’s as soon as he enters the village. He grabs the things he needs for the house and Najuma before he heads over to the register, greeting the owner of the shop. After a bit of small talk, Hodari decides he should ask the other man what he thinks about the human.
“Ain’t too close to them, to be honest but they seem decent enough.” he shrugs. “Rest of the town seems to like them, even Eshe seems to be warming up to them, albeit begrudgingly” he laughs. Hodari nods along as he is given the information to process. “You know me though,” the other continues, “I don’t make it a habit of trustin’ people, especially people I don’t know. It’s a crazy world out there. Their gold spends as good as anyone else’s though!” he finishes with a wink and Hodari just shakes his head as he pays for his goods. They say their good-byes and Hodari promises to pass along a hello to Najuma for him before he takes his leave.
As he’s walking out of the store he spots you leaving the inn and waving a good-bye to the cook from the doorway. He watches for a moment as you smile and greet the youngest Daiya boy and Elouisa on your way back to your home plot. He wonders briefly what it looks like now since he’s last seen it the first day you appeared here. As you round the corner and out of his sight, he starts on his own way home.
He takes the opportunity on the walk back to mull over the things Zeki told him while the conversation is still fresh in his mind. He thinks the grimilkin may be right, you’re basically a stranger and he doesn't know you very well. You seem nice enough, and clearly your presence is enjoyed and welcomed by many in the village, but he's gotta keep his family in mind and Najuma’s wellbeing takes precedence. It doesn’t help that he’s still uncomfortable with the idea that a human has been around his daughter alone and presumably in his house and he’s been none the wiser to it. Friendly or not, the two of you haven’t even spoken since the night he stayed late in the mines so it would probably be best if he put a stop to whatever is going on, at least while he’s not around. Just for now. It wouldn’t hurt Najuma to socialize more, but he’s not sure this is how he wants that to happen.
After getting home he puts away the items and goes to hunt Najuma down in the workshop, letting her know the things she wanted were waiting for her on the kitchen table whenever she needed them.
“It’s gonna be a late night for me t’night. Don’t wait for me for dinner, there’s leftovers in the icebox for ya. Don’t forget to eat, ya hear me?” He calls from outside the shop. Once he hears a quiet muttering of ‘yeah yeah’ in acknowledgement he turns and starts his walk to the mines. He figures tonight is as good a night as any to talk to you when you make your way down. ‘Doesn’t need to be a big deal’, he reasons with himself, ‘place a few boundaries. No harm no foul.’
Without Hodari realizing it, hours have passed since he’s been down here and he picks up his things to head closer to the entrance of the mines to wait for you. A brief look outside tells him that the sun has long since finished its march across the sky, Luna and Ignis have risen, and he can hear the crickets begin their nightly songs. As he watches the lantern bugs flit about amongst the grass and trees he starts to worry you won’t actually show tonight and he’s stayed out this late for no reason. But like clockwork, the tell tale sound of the crunching gravel beneath shoes moves towards the mine entrance and he knows it can’t possibly be anyone else but you coming down here so late.
You wave to him, offering a quick ‘hello!’ as soon as you see him standing at the entrance. He raises his hand in greeting back, taking a deep breath. You’re already smiling in front of him and he finds himself inexplicably worried he might hurt your feelings. You don’t look like you mean any harm but he can’t trust you, not yet.
“Another late night? You’re not usually down here still at this time, shouldn’t you be home having dinner with Najuma?” You ask, curious. He watches as you pull your pack off to get your own supplies out.
“Yeah about that. Got something I wanna talk t’ya about.” He begins. You hum in acknowledgement of the statement while you continue to sort through your pack.
“Yeah? What’s up?” You ask and Hodari finds himself fumbling a bit at the relaxed ease in your tone, talking to him as though you were friends or at the very least friendly acquaintances and not practically strangers.
“It’s about Najuma. I-”
“Is she okay?” you cut him off, sounding concerned and he feels a flare of annoyance. It’s not your job to be concerned.
“Well if ya let me finish,” he starts again a bit more gruff, “She’s fine. What I want to talk about is how much you’ve been hangin’ around her. I know ya don’t mean any harm, but I don’t see much of a reason for you to be headin’ all the way out here just to talk to her. Especially when I’m not around, it just don’t sit right with me.” He watches as the words sink in, and your face changes from concerned to confused, and finally to hurt.
“I-” you begin but he holds out his hand to stop you.
“It’s nothing personal. But we- I don’t know you and if anything happened to her… well it doesn't bear thinkin’ about. I just can’t take that chance, ya understand?” He waits until you nod in agreement before continuing, “Good. Glad we’re on the same page then.” He reaches down and grabs his pick off the ground before resting his hand on your shoulder. “Okay then, you have a good rest of your night.”
He hears a quiet ‘you too’ as he starts to walk away, a lighter step in his gait. That went surprisingly well all things considered. He faltered at the thought of the hurt in your eyes but you’ll get over it, it's for the best to leave things as they are for now. As he walks away he doesn’t notice the sounds of mining dont carry up the hills as they normally do.
A few days have passed and the weekend draws near. At breakfast Najuma is quietly picking at her food and Hodari lets her know they'll both be going into town tomorrow. Instead of the incoming complaints he was expecting she seemed to perk up at the news.
“Do you think we’ll see y/n in town?” she rushes out, her eyes wide as she looks at him. It takes him aback at her intensity.
“I.. don’t know.” he answers slowly. “Why?”
She sits back in her chair a little dejected. “I haven’t seen them around lately. It’s been a few days and..” her voice drops down to almost a whisper. “..I miss them.” She looks back up at him, “Have you seen them around?”
“No, I haven't.” He answers honestly, but carefully. He doesn’t plan on telling her he spoke to you about not coming around if he’s not here too. But truth be told, he hasn’t seen you at all. Not in town this week or down by the mines.
Najuma resumes poking at her breakfast and Hodari has to bite back the comment of not playing with her food, recognizing that if he says anything now it would most likely spawn another argument and he’d much rather have a tension free day when he can help it. Not looking up from her plate she mumbles “What if they left too? Like all the other humans? What if they didn't say goodbye?” his daughter looks almost on the verge of tears at the thought and his chest tightens. He hadn't realized she felt so attached to the human already.
He thinks for a moment wondering if that may have happened but no, you couldn’t have moved on. He had just heard both Sifuu and Reth talking about how helpful you’ve been just yesterday while he was in town. He tells Najuma as such and it seems like some of the weight has been lifted from her tiny shoulders. “I hope so.. Y/n is the only one who talks to me like an actual person! They even started to bring me iron from the mine for my projects after they found out you won't let me in there!” She huffs a tad indignant at the self reminder that he won’t let her in the mines with him.
Hodari feels a bit of guilt listening to Najuma talk about missing you. He hadn’t realized that his daughter had apparently grown so fond of you so quickly. Taking an appeasing route, “Maybe they’re just busy. Remember y/n had to start everythin’ from scratch and that takes time.” Najuma just hums, unsatisfied in the answer. “When did you two start becomin’ close anyway Juma? I didn’t even know they were visiting until a few days ago.” He says finally taking a bite of his own food hoping to encourage his daughter to do the same.
His daughter looks at him like he just sprouted another head. Not raising to the bait, he raises an eyebrow waiting for her to answer. Still looking at him confused she begins, “A few months ago, Dad. Y/n got lost looking for Hassian’s grove and ended up here. They saw me and asked for directions, remember? You were in the workshop.” Hodari sets his fork down to focus on what his daughter is saying because, in fact, he doesn’t remember that. She continues without missing a beat, speaking a mile a minute now as she recounts the day she first met you. “I gave them the directions so they wouldn’t bother you and went back to working on my sketch as I waited for them to leave but they didn’t. They asked me what I was working on and said it looked cool! None of the humans had said that to me before!” She was smiling and excited now as she talks. “Then they told me I must be ‘One hell of an inventor’ because I ‘sure have a knack for it’ because they couldn't understand any of it but said it looked ‘awesome’! I told them I couldn't finish it because you wouldn’t let me in the mines and-”
“I would have brought you some iron if you had just asked me Juma..” Hodari interrupts her, already tired from knowing where this road could lead.
“It’s not the same! Anyway you were really busy with that huge order for Bahari City so I couldn’t ask you even if I wanted to, I knew you didn’t have the time. But you’ll never believe it! They said you were right! And that the mines are dangerous and I shouldn’t go in them!” She throws her hands up dramatically and Hodari has to fight down the smile at the action. “Then later in the afternoon when we were both in the workshop they dropped off some iron for both of us, remember? Y/n told me they couldn’t wait to see it all finished and were happy to be a “patron of the arts” whatever that means.”
Najuma is looking at him expectantly and he wracks his brain trying to remember any of that. He remembers the Bahari City order, took him days to complete. Honestly he doesn’t remember much else, he wasn't sleepin’ too much during it. Eventually he nods his head, “yeah yeah I kinda remember that.” Najuma looks at him skeptically, like she doesn't believe a word of it but he ignores it as he takes another bite of his food.
“Yeah well, that’s pretty much it. Y/n would come into the bay to forage and mine and when they started home they would ask me if you or I needed anything they had picked up. Which was a little awkward at first, and kinda overwhelming but they were just trying to be nice! Eventually y/n just started stopping by the house to ask what we needed and would go out and get it while they got the things they needed, it was super helpful!”
Hodari sits there and listens as Najuma goes on to tell him how cool it was to have an adult think that she was cool and smart. He wanted to interrupt her and tell her he thinks she's cool and smart but the words catch in his throat as she continues filling him in on all he’s missed. How annoying it was that you had agreed with him but then told her she was so smart that she’ll invent a way to make mining safer in no time and that you believed in her. He feels his stomach drop the longer she talks, you had been keeping his daughter safe and giving her all the confidence in herself he’d been trying so hard to instill in her. He’s still a little concerned he didn’t know it was happening and tries to find a way to say it without coming across as the bad guy. ‘A little late for that’ his mind unhelpfully supplies.
But Najuma always has been smart as a whip and catches on quick. “I’m not surprised you didn’t notice, Dad. You’re always so busy you don’t notice a lot of things even when they’re happening right in front of you. We didn't want to bug you so we just tried to stay out of your way when we were all in the shop.” Hodari almost wants to feel insulted as goes to say he isn’t that oblivious while he’s working when she suddenly goes very serious across the table from him.
“Wait.. If you didn’t notice how often y/n was here, even when you were in the same room with us, have you not thanked them for all the gifts they’ve been bringing us since the beginning? Not even the ones they’ve brought just for you?” She asks, horrified. The sinking feeling in his stomach turns to solid lead at the question. “Really Dad? None of the extra ores? Or all the fresh meat? Not even the ugly antlers you’d been wanting? I didn’t even mean to tell them about those but as soon as I mentioned them, they brought them with the meat that evening!” She says exasperated.
Truth be told he didn't notice the extra ores were a gift, he thought he was the one who placed them there and forgot or assumed Najuma had been messing with them late at night and really hadn't thought too much of it past that. The meat and antlers though.. “I thought Sifuu’s boy had been bringing them by.” He answered honestly, a little rattled.
Najuma shakes her head unaware of her father's internal struggle, finally shoveling another bite in her mouth and opens her mouth to start talking again. This time Hodari did interrupt her to tell her to not speak with her mouth full. She swallows before starting again. “Nope!” She says popping the ‘P’ at the end. “Y/n has been dropping off fresh meat and even whole meals for us sometimes. They said something about how they know you're always busy in the mines and I'm a growing girl. They also told me they always make too much and have extra and giving it to us is a win-win for all of us because it won't go bad and that it's one less thing we have to worry about too.” She says it very matter of factly but Hodari knows that's not how it works. You don't just make “extra” enough to feed 3 people a whole meal. You had been going out of your way to cook for them so Najuma had lunch he didn’t have to make for her and he never even noticed.
“But dad, don't tell them I said this” she whispers conspiratorially, grabbing his attention again. “I think they go hunting just to bring us fresh meat when they're out here.” She stops to eat her breakfast before it gets completely cold while Hodari thinks about just how bad he’s just fucked up.
She shovels the last of her food in her mouth before turning her gaze to her dad, “Y/n’s really nice, you should probably thank them when you see them next so they don't get the wrong idea and think we don’t want them here.” And wasn't that just salt in a wound that’s already festering. Meanwhile Najuma carries on, no idea what her father had told you a few days ago. “Maybe that's why they stopped coming by, it's really rude to not say thank you and they'd been doing it for months.” She looks out the window and sighs, “I don't want them to think we don't like them and not come back, Dad. I want to show them my new ideas!”
She turns back to her father, “I know you haven’t seen them but if you do when we are in town tomorrow can you tell them I want to show them my newest idea if they have time to come by. Oh! And you can ask if they want to have dinner with us! They haven't tasted your cooking yet, we can have corn! Please?”
His throat is dry as he tells her “Sure, Juma.” before sending her to go wash up before she inevitably finds her way outside to dirty herself up all over again. As soon as she’s out of sight he puts his head in his hands. He didn’t know any of that was happening and that his daughter had grown so close to you. Much less that you had been going so far out of your way to be so kind to his little family. The look of hurt in your eyes flashes through his mind as he called you a stranger and said he couldn't trust you around Najuma and he drags a hand down his face in hopes to wipe the image out of his mind’s eye.
How in the hell was he gonna fix this?

Hodari POV
The sun is high overhead when he drops Najuma off at the tailor’s shop. Both Jel and Tish assured them they have snacks for lunch while they discuss.. whatever the three of them were planning. He ruffles his daughter’s hair before she darts into the shop. Shaking his head calling after her, "I'll be back to pick you up in an hour or so." But she was already gone, talking a mile a minute to Jel and not not paying him any mind. Tish laughs and wishes him a good lunch before joining the other two inside. Certain that Najuma isn’t about to come back out begging him to go home, he turns and heads towards the resounding laughter he can hear pouring out from the inn across the street.
He enters the building and is met with the sight of warm mirth as everyone is gathered around the long table talking and laughing. It’s been a busy year, he thinks. Kids growing up, paths being chosen, prices raising, taxes steadily increased, endless deliveries, and humans returning. ‘No wonder everyone needs a break’. Sparing a quick look around the rest of the inn, he spots you at the bar talking easily to Reth. It feels like cold water has been poured down his spine causing him to stand up straight, the light mirth dissipating all too quickly. He hadn't actually expected to see you today and still wasn’t sure exactly what he should say. Should he even try to say anything right now? You look stressed as you talk with the cook, shoulders slumped forward while Reth leans over the counter nodding as he listens.
"Hodari, my friend! You made it. We were getting worried you wouldn't actually come." Ashura calls out, snapping him from his thoughts as the sound of the inn invades his senses again.
“Told ya I’d be here. Don’t make a habit of goin’ back on m’word.” He grumbles half heartedly as he turns his attention to the older man, greeting him as he sits down.
It didn’t escape his notice how you seemed to stiffen and stop talking as soon as Ashura spoke to him and a flash of guilt runs through him. ‘I have to say something today’ he decides. He’ll keep an eye out for you and before either of you leaves he'll stop and talk to you. He can explain the situation and apologize for the misunderstanding. He can even make due on the promise to Najuma and invite you over for dinner. As a show of good faith. He can already feel the heat of embarrassment of the looming conversation crawling up the back of his neck. On second thought, maybe he should remove himself from that equation from the time being. What if you say no? He doesn’t want to ruin that for Najuma just because you may not want to, understandably, be around him right now. Worse yet, what if you don’t want to hear him out at all?
Before he can spiral further, he's pulled into the conversation between Sifuu and Badruu, all thoughts of apologizing and fretting being pushed to the backburner as Sifuu asks how the mines are looking.
Soon enough, new drinks have been poured and he finds himself laughing and talking, joining the conversation with everyone else. Listening as Delaila, face lightly flushed from the spirits, talks about her age old rivalry and the sting of her recent defeat, sharing an amused glance with Zeki as Chayne tries to placate her. It’s been too long since they’ve all had a moment to relax like this and as time becomes less of a priority while content in his friends’ presence, he doesn’t notice you slip out the back.
In the midst of listening to Ashura talking about the fish he’d caught yesterday Reth walks over to where he’s sitting at the table, abruptly interrupting the easy flow and cutting his boss off.
"What did you do?" He asks, voice measured and calm. It could be mistaken as curiosity, almost conversational even, if not for the words themselves and a fire simmering behind the cook’s eyes. The table goes silent.
“M’not sure what you’re talkin’ about.” He replies evenly. This definitely not where he wants to have this conversation, much less with who. At this point everyone at the table is looking between them. This is extremely out of character for Reth and he’d almost be proud of the kid for taking a stance had it not been directed at him in particular. Publicly.
“Reth, what-” Ashura starts but is immediately cut off by the cook.
"Y/n. What happened?” He asks bluntly. “Because I was finally able to pry out of them and get them to tell me why they've been looking so unsettled this last week and do you know what they told me?” At Hodari’s silence, he continues. “They told me they felt like they overstated to themself their welcome in someone's life. That they grossly misread a situation and put everyone in an awkward situation and they’re embarrassed about it. Now what's interesting about that to me is I can't think of a single person in this village who would give them that impression. Can you?" Hodari looks down at the accusation.
Sifuu looks between the two before turning to Hodari. "Does this have anything to do with why Y/n told me it would be best for them to avoid the mines this morning when I asked about an extra delivery? I needed a rush order and didn't want to add onto your already busy workload for next week."
He winces a bit at the new information. He opens his mouth to try and defend himself when a commotion outside the open inn door catches everyone’s attention. The sound of the tailor’s door slamming open and Jel’s distressed voice calling out "Najuma wait-" has him out of his seat in an instant, conversation immediately forgotten.
Running out the door he spots Jel and Tish at the bottom of the steps in front of the tailor’s shop.
"Where is she-" he starts to ask but Tish is already pointing down the road towards the streak of red booking it towards the edge of town and towards the human housing plots like a bat out of hell and he takes off after her.
"Y/N!" He hears her shout as she runs towards the human with their back to her and you turn around at her shout.
“What-” he hears you start to ask as she wraps her arms around your waist, almost knocking you over. He gets to both of you in time to steady the two of you before grabbing his daughter by her shoulders and spinning her around to face him.
“Najuma, what in the world are ya doin’?”
“I’m askin’ y/n to dinner! Or, I was about to..” She sheepishly looks over her shoulder at the human behind her. “I saw them walking outside past Jel’s shop and I didn’t want to miss the opportunity!”
He sighs, releasing her shoulders and standing up straight as you look down at Najuma confused before looking back up at him.
“I'm not so sure dinner is a good idea right now, I've been pretty busy recently and-” You start to answer the girl between them, your eyes not leaving his.
“Please. Dad even said he’d cook for us this time, so you don’t have to worry about it!” She elbows him in the side and he hums in agreement, not sure what to say in this situation as his daughter steamrolls through it with her one track mind.
He watches as surprise crosses your features before it’s gone again, replaced with apprehension and he feels his stomach twist as the next words leave your mouth. “I’m sorry Mr. Pavel, I didn’t mean to put you in this position again. I promise I didn’t plan-”
“Mr. Pavel?” Najuma cuts you off, looking between him and you before turning to face him, confusion written all over her face. “Dad, what's going on?” She asks, quickly picking up the tension between the two adults.
“Najuma, why don’t you head back to Tish and Jel. Y/n and I can talk dinner plans and get it all sorted and figure out a time that works around both our busy schedules.” She stares at him for a second before nodding and turning to the human next to her.
“But you will come to dinner won’t you?” She asks hopefully.
Your eyes catch his and you hold his gaze as he nods, silently urging you to agree. You let out a sigh. “Yeah of course ‘Juma. I’ll be there, just let me talk with your dad to work out a day.”
Najuma wraps you in a tight hug before you even finished your sentence. “Thank you! I missed you and I have so many ideas I've been wanting to show you!”
He watches the exchange between the two of you from the sidelines, taking a step back so Najuma could say her goodbyes to you without him looming over her shoulder. The two of you interact so seamlessly and he’s kicking himself for not paying more attention. Najuma’s hands are waving around as she talks a mile a minute with a small smile on her face as you listen with rapt attention, nodding along to whatever it is she's telling you. The sight makes his chest warm but he wonders how many of these moments he’s been present for but missed. How many times he’s been on the outskirts of the moment. Najuma’s words at the breakfast table come back to the forefront of his mind, ‘I’m not surprised you didn’t notice, Dad. You’re always so busy you don’t notice a lot of things even when they’re happening right in front of you’. He’s gotta do something about that.
When he notices the small conversation starting to wind down he walks back over. Najuma gives you one last hug before heading back to the tailor’s. “See you soon!” She calls out with a wave and you wave back to her, a small smile gracing your lips as well. It lights up your face and he can’t help but think it belongs there permanently, catching him off guard.
When Najuma is out of earshot he turns to you. You open your mouth but he holds a hand out to stop you. “Now hold on a sec, I got somethin’ to say and then you can say your piece.” Your mouth shuts with an audible click and he lets out a breath he didn’t know he was holding. “First things first, I owe you an apology, a real one.” You open your mouth to respond and he shakes his head putting a stop to it. “I ain’t finished.” He waits until your mouth has closed before starting over.
“I owe you an apology because I said some hurtful things that I realized aren’t quite true and in doing so I’ve hurt not just you but ‘Juma too. Neither of you deserved that and I’m sorry. I hadn’t realized just how close the two of you were and how much Najuma cares for you” He looks down, kicking a loose pebble with his shoe. “I was just tryin’ to keep my little girl safe.” He looks back up to find your face has softened as he’s been talking and he takes a breath before continuing. “It’s also been brought to my attention just how much you’ve done for me and my little family and I didn’t repay that in kind. I could make excuses ‘til i’m blue in the face about how I wasn’t payin’ attention but at the end of the day I was just a fool. I’m sorry for treatin’ you like a danger while you’ve been hard at work keepin’ my girl safe while I was too busy havin’ my head up my-. Well, thank you. I’d be grateful if you would be willin’ to join Najuma and I for dinner so I can start makin’ it up to you and repaying you for all the kindness you’ve shown us over these last few months. It’s the least I can do.”
There’s a beat of silence before you speak up. “Mr. Pavel it’s-”
“Hodari. Please. Call me Hodari. If you’re still comfortable that is.”
“Hodari. It’s okay. It sounds like we both misread this situation.” You smile at him and damn if it ain’t a beautiful smile, his heart rate picking up at the sight. “How about we start over? It’s kinda like the whole reason us humans are back anyways. A second chance. There's no rules against a do-over right?” You ask him, still smiling at him with a bit of hope in your tone.
“I s’pose not..”
“Okay then. Let’s start over.” You hold your hand out to him. “My name’s y/n. I just moved into town a few months ago. You could say I’m new to the area.”
You look at him expectantly while he stares at your hand before reaching out and grasping it firmly in his and shaking it. “Hodari Pavel of Pavel mining.”
“It’s a pleasure to meet you, Hodari.” You say it so sincerely and he feels his chest tighten at the words.
“The pleasure is all mine.” He gives your hand one last squeeze, noting how calloused they are after the months of hard work before letting go, his hand dropping back to his side.
“See! That wasn’t so bad. Now, about that dinner. You don’t have to feel obligated to do that. Seriously. I know how busy you are and I don’t want to impose.” Busy. That’s all he seems to be these days and look where it got him.
“No, please. I want to. And Najuma would love to have you over again, she’s been missin’ you somethin’ fierce. I meant it when I said I want to thank you for everything you’ve done for us. Najuma filled me in, you didn't have to do all of that-”
“I wanted to!” You interrupt him in a rush, like you hadn’t meant to actually to speak the words into existence. He starts a bit at the disruption as your cheeks start to color. A bit quieter this time, looking away from him you confess. “I wanted to. Look, when I first got here I was so lost. Literally and metaphorically. I was spending days searching for a reason to be doing any of the things I was doing and just trying to pass time. Every day was bleeding into the next and I didn’t see a way out. Don’t get me wrong, everyone was so nice and helpful but I felt so misplaced and confused. Those first few weeks were rough, I won't lie to you. I was debating leaving and heading for the capital like all the rest of the humans. Try and find some answers or a meaning, I don’t know.” You stop and look back up directly in his eyes. A new intensity behind them freezing him in place. “But then I accidentally stumbled across that firecracker you call a daughter and suddenly I had a reason to be doing things here. I had a reason to get up and actually go mining or hunting or do anything really. Because somewhere out in the bay, some kid was depending on me for a few bits of ore for some crazy invention that I sure as hell didn’t understand. And with that kid was a man working himself to the bone, looking just as lost as I felt. It made me feel a little less alone I guess. So yeah, I started helping out where I could. I really didn't need the extra ore. What was I gonna do with it? It felt more fitting to give it where it would be used. Najuma makes such cool things and if I left a little extra for you, so what? You’d get more use of it then I would. And I’m just one person, I wasn’t going to eat all that meat and food. I didn’t mind sharing.” You pause for a moment taking a breath. “Mr. Pa- Hodari, I didn’t do it to get something back out of it. In fact just letting me help was giving me something. It helped me familiarize myself with the area and my tools and in turn get to know more of the people here and help them out as well. You don’t owe me anything. This is not a debt to be paid off or returned. Kindness doesn’t work like that…”
You trail off at the end looking embarrassed while he stands there in shocked silence. Finally he breaks the growing quiet. “Okay then.” A beat. “How about this, thank you for all the nice things you’ve done for my daughter and I. How would you feel about joining us for dinner tomorrow? Not as a thank you, but instead a chance to test this ‘do-over’ and get to know each other a bit better. I can cook dinner and you can bring dessert? Ashura has been talkin’ nonstop about your bakin’.”
A small smile grows across your face and he feels proud that he’s the one who put it there. “I’d really like that. Tomorrow?”
He nods his head. “8pm work?”
“I’ll be there, be sure to let ‘Juma know.” You look over your shoulder to the plot path and the back to him. “I should actually be getting home and I’m sure you’re wanting to get back to the inn with everyone.”
He thinks of the interrogation that’s certainly still waiting for his return. “I was getting ready to head out soon anyways. Doubt anyone’s missin’ me too much right now.” He pauses for a second, and then without thinking, “How about I walk ya home? Give Najuma a bit more time to socialize.” ‘What are you doing?!’ his mind screams at him as you tilt your head in confusion at the request. He starts to back peddle. “I’m sorry that was-”
“I would really like that.” You interrupt him, color dusting your cheeks. “But are you sure? It’s a long walk from my house back to the bay.”
“I’m sure. Plenty of time to kill today.” He gestures to the path in front of them. “Lead the way.”
–-
Later that night as he’s lying in bed, he keeps thinking of the day’s events, turning them over and over in his mind. Unable to sleep as he keeps drifting back to one of things you said.
‘No rules against a do-over right?’
You had said it so confidently. Self assured. But the more he’s thought about it the less true he finds it. There are no do-overs here. You do something and you stick to it. You pick a path, a partner, a future and you stick to it. You put your all into it. But humans.. You… Your very existence challenges that.
‘No rules against a do-over right?’
Appearing from extinction, an entire race of being whose entire status of being alive is a do-over. A second chance at mortality. Another roll of the proverbial dice to try again. A people who worship a god of starting over and over and over. No shame. No harm in trying. No fear of starting again.
‘No rules against a do-over right?’
He thinks of your smile and laugh. How you talked with Najuma. How your kindness felt like it was burning him from the inside out. How you accepted his apology and spoke of your gratitude to them.
‘No rules against a do-over right?’
The walk to your house. How you filled the silence and he couldn't concentrate on a word of it because all he could think about was how he had never noticed how nice you looked. How you gesture with your hands when you talk. How your eyes seem to burn with passion. How he wants to stoke that fire.
‘No rules against a do-over right?’
He thinks of collecting Najuma from Jel’s and telling her you would be coming over tomorrow. How her face split into a smile so wide he’s sure he hasn’t seen it like that in years. Imagining the two of you sitting at the dinner table, eating the food he’s cooked, and enjoying the domestic moment.
‘No rules against a do-over right?’
No rules against a do-over.. Right? Fuck.

Espresso Chapter 3:
Vaunting
Ch 1 Ch 2 Ch 3

In the days that passed since Hodari confronted you in the mines you’ve been avoiding the Pavel house like the plague and succinctly the mines themselves. ‘It’s nothing personal’ still echoes in your head and you’ve decided the best course of action would probably be to avoid all of the southern half of Bahari Bay for right now so you don’t accidentally run into the miner or his daughter and risk catching Hodari’s ire. The message was received loud and clear the first time and you’re not exactly chomping at the bit to hear it again. You’re not one to place yourself where you aren’t welcomed or wanted.
This clever plan however, has its drawbacks. Only sticking to the northern half of the bay has unfortunately proven to be quite a challenge. It comes with the steep price of annoyance from the town’s stern hunter who has been trying to mentor you in proper use of your new bow and you fear his patience is running thin with the various excuses you’ve been feeding him.
Your ore stash has also taken a hit with not being able to actually venture into the mines or the foothills that surround them. Thankfully you still had a decent supply set up from your excessive late night mining but it's not an expansive supply by any means so there wasn’t much to spare. This means you’ve been stuck with the less-than-ideal pickaxe you had been hoping to ditch in favor of a better one. You’d been planning on talking to the miner about the upgrade but no longer see that happening in the foreseeable future so you’ll just have to make do.
You feel yourself cringe internally at the memory of the conversation still freshly haunting your thoughts. Thinking back on it, he didn't seem mad per se but any interaction with him is most likely going to be tense and awkward and you'd rather avoid the whole thing if you can. It’s bad enough that when you spot him in town you find yourself ducking into the nearest building to avoid any confrontation with him.
Regardless of anger, your heart still hurts and your self esteem definitely took a harder hit than you’d like to admit, even if only to yourself. Fitting in and finding your place here has been nothing short of difficult but you thought you had been making headway. If you were feeling bold, you might have even said becoming friends. ’We- I don’t know you’ floats its way back into your thoughts and you stop it in its tracks before you can spiral again. Finding out you had been very mistaken and overstepping boundaries left and right unknowingly is as painful as it is embarrassing.
Deciding to stop the tiny pity party you've found yourself in, you get ready to head into town. You’ve been needing to stop by Zeki’s for a few things and no better time to do so than when the day is still young. Now that the weekend is here once you've finished what you need to do, you're looking forward to not having to worry for a few days and take the time to relax and soothe your hurt and embarrassment in peace. With one last quick check you leave your plot and start your walk to the general store.
As you’re making your way down the hill Sifuu spots you. “Y/n!” She calls and waves you over.
“Good morning!” You greet as you approach her. She smiles and claps a large hand on your shoulder. “Haven’t seen you around the last few days, my iron has been running low!” she laughs. You smile placatingly and brush it aside, apologizing letting her know you’ve been busy.
“Haven't we all! Tell you what, I’ve got some extra gold in it for you if you could help me out and get me some extra for tomorrow. I’ve got an order I've been working on that’s requiring a bit more than I expected. I promise I’ll make it worth your while.” She winks and you hesitate. On one hand you do want to help her and the promise of some extra coin is as good a motivator as any. On the other hand… you still aren't planning on going anywhere near the mines anytime soon. ‘Well good bye gold’ you silently mourn.
“I'm sorry, I wish I could help but I don’t think it’s a good idea for me to be going down in the mines right now. I’ve got a lot going on right now and won't have time” you apologize, the tiny lie falling from your lips. You hope she doesn’t ask any for any clarification and thankfully she doesn't. She just narrows her eyes but doesn’t press any further. You internally let out a sigh of relief, you really didn’t want to explain the situation. As kind as the blacksmith is, you have a feeling she wouldn’t be the best person to talk about this with.
She sends you off with reassurance that it’s okay and that she hopes to see you around town again before heading towards her forge. You head the opposite direction towards the docks, reasoning Zeki’s can wait a bit longer. A few hours of comfortable silence later spent with Einar as you fish together, the sun is high in the sky and your stomach is telling you it’s time to eat. You sell Einar your tiny haul and head back towards the town for some food.
Between the time and it being the weekend you figured the inn would be empty for the lunch period. Walking in you were surprised to find that instead of the silence you were expecting, the inn seemed to be quite busy and filled with life. Sifuu and Badruu are here lounging at the long table by the door laughing loudly, drink spilling as their cheeks color a ruddy hue from what you're not sure is from the joy they're projecting or from the spirits in their cup. Both Kenli and Zeki sit across from them, one far more interested in the going ons across the table than the other. In the corner at the end of the same table, Delaila and Chayne are more quietly talking amongst themselves. Curious, you walk over to the bar where Reth is.
“What’s going on?” you ask the cook motioning to the commotion behind you.
Reth laughs, wiping the bar down. “I guess everyone decided to have a break day. They're all taking the afternoon off to catch up before the end of season rushes hit everyone.” You nod along and slide into one of the stools at the counter.
“Guess I’ll take my lunch over here then, I don’t want to intrude.”
Reths gives you a weird look before throwing the towel on his shoulder and leaning against the countertop. “Look I’m not wanting to stick my nose in where it isn’t wanted so you can tell me to forget it and it's gone, but are you doing okay, sweet tooth? You’ve seemed pretty down every time I’ve seen you the last few days. Starting to miss the smiles around here.”
You take a moment to think before you answer, this is Reth. If anyone is going to be sympathetic to the situation, it’d be him. "I'm fine. I just- do you ever realize you misunderstood something and the aftermath of that... just kinda sucks?"
Reth’s face changes from curious to mildly confused at your question. "Yeah. I guess so. What happened?"
You're not sure if you want to tell him the whole situation, not wanting to cause a bigger issue, but the genuine concern in his eyes placates some of your nerves. You can trust him. "It's not a big deal really.. I just thought I was finally understanding the gift giving and friendship rules here” you pause before sighting, “but I guess not."
Reth stays quiet for a moment as he ponders the words and then tilts his head, " So what happened?" He asks again.
You look down at the counter picking at the grain of the wood., "I accidentally overstated my welcome in someone’s company and misread a situation. It's fine, I'm just a little embarrassed."
Reth gets a bit more serious now, everyone in town adores your presence. You've been so kind and helpful to everyone! Eager to learn the customs unfamiliar to you without complaint and you go out of your way to help everyone you come across, even at your own inconvenience and expense. You've been so kind to him in particular, he can't imagine who wouldn't want you around. Surely there's just been a misunderstanding "Who-" he starts before Ashuras booming voice fills the inn
"Hodari, my friend! You made it. We were getting worried you wouldn't actually come"
Hodari says something in response but you don't catch is as you feel your whole body lock up, refusing to turn around
Reth shoots you another strange look at your reaction before his eyes widen, putting the dots together. "What did he say?" He begins but you shake your head.
"It's really not a big deal, Reth. It’s more of an ego hit or sting to my pride than anything else."
Reth just hums and gives you an almost withering look to tell you he’s not impressed with the answer but drops it and you feel a wave of gratitude towards your friend. As time passes you slowly start to relax as you realize the miner hasn’t seen you as they all gather amongst themselves to chat.
Reth sets a bowl of your favorite soup in front of you that you hadn't ordered yet. You look up at him quizzically and he shrugs. "It’s a new recipe, you're the first to try it so let me know what you think. On the house for testers of course." You nod and take a sip and can't help a smile as the flavor bursts across your tongue, there's nothing new about it at all. And with every spoonful, you feel just a little bit warmer. After you've finished, Reth takes the bowl from you. "Want me to go talk to the grouch?" He nods his head towards where Hodari is talking and laughing and you stifle a laugh at the image in front of you with the ‘grouch’ descriptor while shaking your head.
"No. It's okay, really. I misread the situation, it stings and I'm so embarrassed. But it's probably for the best. I don't want to force myself to be somewhere I'm not wanted."
Reth scrunched his nose at that huffing ".. I don't like that. We don't do that. Sure we can be pretty strict in our traditions and some can be harsh if someone deviates" he pauses gesturing to his entire self, "but we repay the kindness we are shown." You nod along to appease him but don't say anything as he continues. "I meant it when I said you don't have to tell me what happened, but I'm not gonna lie, sweet tooth, I'm a little confused what he could say or do to make you feel like that. He’s a bit gruff, sure, but under all that he tends to mind his own business and is always willing to help out when it's needed. I mean, he hasn't even shown any issue with me. Maybe it's just a really big misunderstanding?" He says not unkindly.
You shrug noncommittally, wanting the conversation to move on. Reth picks up on the change pretty quick and switches the topic to something more neutral. Soon enough he has you throwing your head back in laughter, Hodari and the conversation far from your mind. Before you know it, over an hour has passed and you needed to be heading back home. You tell Reth as such and he offers to help you sneak and you slip out the back so you don't have to walk past the whole group still engrossed in their conversation or Hodari.
As you're leaving from behind the inn, your steps feel a little lighter. Even with everything that's happened, you still have friends who care for you and it'll be okay. This has been a learning opportunity and you’ll give yourself room to grow. Lost in your own self assurance as you start the walk home you almost miss the sound of footsteps racing behind you. Subconsciously you start to brace for impact from Auni when a girl's voice calls out "Y/N!" You turn around to see Najuma tearing out from seemingly Jel’s shop, if the harried tailor and Tish running out from the building are any indication, and running right towards you. 'Oh no..'

Espresso Chapter 1:
Knock on Wood
Ch1 Ch2 Ch3
Pairing: Hodari Pavel x Reader Word Count: 2.1k Chapter 1/? Rating: E Summary: "You take a moment to silently watch him work, a true master at his chosen craft. You take note how his arms tense before bringing them down in a powerful swing, a rhythmic motion he repeats over and over as he carves the ore from its resting spot in the Earth. You find it not too dissimilar from a sculptor chiseling one's vision from the marble slab before them. His eyes were heavy and focused on the mass of stone he was chipping away at and clearly he had been at it for quite awhile by this time if the sweat that’s beaded along his forehead and down his temple is any indication. His hair is stuck to his face and you can follow the trail down to a damp shirt and skin that almost seems to lightly glisten in the lantern provided light." --------------------------------------
You find yourself in an unfamiliar world with a new life before you. Maybe... you'll help someone find a new life too?
Tags: Angst, Angst with a happy ending, miscommunication, fluff, eventual smut
A/N: This is a multi chapter story! Gender is not specified (though I did originally start writing it with the intention of it being a male reader lol). Tags will be updated as the fic goes. Cross-posted Here on Ao3. Fic below the cut! Enjoy :)
It’s getting late in Kilima as you start to cross the path that leads from the town proper to Bahari Bay, the lantern bugs greeting you as you pass through the gate. Catching a few, you secure them in your empty lantern before starting our evening walk down to the mines. This is one of your favorite times of day, the busy world winding down and coming to a slow stop.
Most people are comfortable in their homes by now, starting dinner for them and their families and relaxing from a long day of work. The glow in the windows of the Pavel’s house ahead of you lends itself to your point. The local miner and his daughter must be settling down to tuck into a good meal right about now after a hard day down in the mines and the thought makes you smile as you pass by.
Over the last few months you’ve been here you’ve started to pick up a bit of a routine for yourself while also observing the local’s daily routines around you. It hasn't escaped your notice that you're one of the only humans that’s decided to stay in the Kilima region for now, most supposedly having moved on to The Capital in search of answers. While you understand the reasoning, that fact definitely aids itself to a feeling of loneliness and otherness in this foreign place, so it helps to see everyone around you maintain a sense of normalcy while you adjust to this new ‘normal’ for yourself.
Sooner than later, the earth beneath your feet becomes more gravel than dirt while the hills on either side of you that frame the well-worn path have become cliff faces and you know you're nearing the mines. The sun has long since set by now and the light evening chill now has a little bite to it. As you approach the entrance, you can hear the sound of metal hitting rock echoing off the cavernous walls. Adjusting your pack, you curiously follow the noise into the depths, wondering who is here so late besides yourself. Usually it's just you and silence that surrounds you to keep you company, so your interest is piqued. Rounding a corner, you find the town’s respected but quiet resident miner, Mr. Pavel. You haven't had a chance to really talk to him since he gave you your first pickaxe and helped you settle in on the plot you’re slowly starting to make into a home. He seems like a very private person who minds his own, so anytime you've seen him around town you haven't wanted to bother him. Besides he always seems like he's busy with places to be and you don't want to interrupt him if that's the case. Outside of the village though you hardly see him. Usually, he's long since left the mines to return home by the time you've made the lengthy journey from your plot all the way out here.
Since he hasn't noticed you yet, you take a moment to silently watch him work, a true master at his chosen craft. His hair is stuck to his face and you can follow the trail down to a damp shirt and skin that almost seems to lightly glisten in the lantern provided light. You feel a light dusting of heat grace your cheeks as you watch him continue for another minute before the sound of the pickaxe abruptly stops, dragging you back into reality as a rough rough voice speaks up.
“You comin’ in here or are you just enjoyin’ the show?” He asks, no patience in his tone as he turns to look where you’re standing. He raises his hand up to the light blinding you to him and you quickly turn the lantern away so it’s no longer shining directly in his eyes.
“Oh, it’s you.” He says in recognition. “Here again? At this point m’starting to get used to it but don't you have anything better to than spending your time down here in the dust and dirt this late?” He says it genuinely as if he’s actually curious and you wonder how many times he’s noticed you coming here. Enough that he isn't surprised by your presence it appears, but surely it can't be too often, you almost never see him yourself.
You set your lantern and pack down on the floor while you pull out your own pick that's ready to begin its service for the night. “Nah, I’m gonna be up for quite awhile yet. No rest for the wicked and all that.” You chuckle at your little joke for a moment before it dries up when you realize he’s not laughing with you. You clear your throat before looking back at your things, closing your pack and gathering all the items you set down as you stand up. Quickly glancing around you decide to head down one of the side shafts to save you both from any more of this awkward interaction and let the miner get back to work, clearly he has things he wants to get done if he’s still here this late.
“Okay then, well, good chatting with you. You have a good rest of your night and I’m gonna go look for some ores to mine up. Good night.” You rush out a little awkwardly as you move toward the mine shaft, pausing at the entrance to give the wooden support beams a few knocks before heading down the carved out path.
When you reach the end you give yourself a moment to collect your thoughts before getting to work. You like it down here, it's quiet and gives you time to think about anything and everything while your hands stay busy. As a small bonus, you're always so tired afterwards that by the time you return to your home plot and clean up you're always too exhausted for those same thoughts to keep you up. Seems like a win-win in your book.
Not too long after you start, you hear shuffling and the soft sounds of footsteps coming down the same route you just walked, the sound echoing off the long walls behind you. As the sound gets closer to you you hear the miner clear his throat before speaking up.
“I’ve been meanin’ to ask…” he starts and then trails off. You stop your mining and turn to get a better look at him, giving him the respect of your full attention so he knows you're listening to him. He's shifting his weight from side to side as he tries to find the words to convey what he’s thinking. Clearly he’s out of his comfort zone so it must be something he's been thinking about for a bit if he’s willing to go through the trouble of.. whatever this is.
Trying to help, you silently motion for him to continue, knowing you won’t be able answer whatever is on his mind if he doesn't share it. He clears his throat again before starting over. “I’ve been meanin’ to ask you, why do you do that?”
You blink a few times waiting for him to continue, but he just stands there with his arms crossed as he looks back at you. After a silent staring contest, you reach the conclusion he isn’t going to elaborate or say anything else. “Do what?” you ask confused, looking for clarification.
At your response, Hodari looks down as if he regrets saying anything in the first place. He takes a sharp breath through his nose before he mimics your earlier knocking on the support beam next to him. “That- This knocking thing you do. I promise those supports are as sturdy as they get. Check ‘em myself twice a week.”
“Oh no! I’m not worried about that at all! I-” Stopping abruptly in your attempt to give an explanation. After a beat, “I’m not actually sure why I do it. I guess I've never really thought about it.”
Hodari stands across from you, recrossing his arms as he listens to your reasoning a little unbelievably. “You don’t know?”
You look away, breaking eye contact with the man. Being put on the spot like this has you feeling exposed, as though he can see right through you. Maybe it's just a symptom of being a father but it unnerves you, like he’ll know if you lie to him. A little self-consciously you answer, “Well.. yeah. It’s not like any of us remember what life was like before..” you trail off. Hodari stays silent. This time, however, it feels less of an oppressive silence but rather more curious as he nods his head for you to continue, so you do. “Humans, I mean. We don’t remember anything from before we appeared here, just our names. We tend to do a lot of things out of reflex but I don’t know where they're from or why I’m doing them. It’s not like we know nothing per se, I know the Earth is round and that a hot stove will burn and things like that even though I haven't done it or been explicitly told by any of the villagers. But I also sometimes feel I have to avoid cracks in the road when I'm walking and that I should avoid breaking mirrors at all costs but I cannot for the life of me tell you why. We all seem to have little things like this and it absolutely adds onto the ‘out of place’ feeling we experience, besides the whole being human in a world that humans don't exist in anymore thing. It's why it doesn't surprise me that most of us leave here, we all just want answers and to understand why we are here and where we are from as much as the rest of you want us out of your hair.” You lightly chuckle at the end but Hodari looks like he’s actually thinking about what you've just said.
The silence continues to stretch between the two of you as he absorbs all the information and you find your face flushing with embarrassment realizing you dropped a bunch of information about humans he didn't ask you for. Having gathered he’s not really one for talking this much you open your mouth to apologize and he holds up his hand to cut you off. He’s not looking at you now but rather down at the ground, his gaze locked on a pebble as he toes it with his boot. He doesn’t look up as he starts talking.
“I, uh, I didn't know that. The not rememberin’ anything.” He looks back up at you now, a little sheepish in his confession. “I haven't really talked to many of the humans after they appeared here. I just helped a few like you get set up on a small plot of land and give a few pointers every now and then so they don't get themselves killed in my mines before they head out of town to explore the rest of the world.” He hesitates for a few seconds before grabbing something from his back pocket. “Here.” he says, holding out his hand between the two of you, a pile of well worn leather in his hands. “Speakin’ of givin’ pointers, since you seem to be sticking around longer than most, you really should be wearing some gloves if you're gonna be at it this long. Take em’, it’s an older pair but they’re broken in and your hands will thank me later.”
Recognizing it as the olive branch it is, you reach out and take them. Before you can even begin to thank him, the miner is already picking up his own lantern and turning to head out of the mines. You follow him to the entrance and he pauses looking at the main wooden beam before giving it a quick rapt with his knuckles as he throws over his shoulder, “I’d wish ya luck findin’ those ores, but I don’t believe in luck.”
As his footfalls on the dirt and gravel fade away as he starts his trek home, something clicks inside your mind. Luck?

Supernatural: dean winchester x male!reader
Fanfic Suggestions
I want to read some fanfiction but I often struggle to find any after I’ve read the more resent stuff. I was wondering if anyone who sees this could maybe give me some suggestions. I’ll list a couple of fandoms I am in and what I’m looking for.
Fandoms:
Stardew Valley: shane x male!farmer, harvey x male!farmer
BG3: astarion x male!reader, astarion x male!tav
Additional Info:
Can be on here or ao3
Anything is fair game.
- smut/lemon, angst(only if it has a happy ending), fluff, literally anything
If the reader is gender neutral that works great as well. Just don’t give me any female reader stories.
