It’s one part bubblegum and one part hard rock akin to The Yardbirds. His hands carelessly wandered from your chest down to your hips, feeling every single part of your perfect body for the last time. His kiss was fierce, almost aggressive, but it was so desperate, so urgent, it had to be that way.

Not that you were complaining - the way palaceguard!sicheng pressed open-mouthed kisses all the way from your jawline to your neck rendered you speechless; you only managed to let out a quiet whimper here and there.

Craving for his taste again, you grabbed his cheeks and smashed his swollen lips against yours, taking fistfuls of Sicheng’s silky brown locks in your hands as his tongue roamed your mouth.

In the heat of the moment, tears pricked your eyes and started rolling down your cheeks. The realisation that this would be the last time you kissed the man that you loved hit you like a wrecking ball.

Your emotions were all over the place - you wanted nothing more than to make love with your boyfriend right there in one of the palace’s many private parlours, but your ‘fiancé’ was arriving at any minute, and you would sail away to a foreign country with him, to rule over his people, leaving your homeland forever... leaving Sicheng forever.

The exact second he felt the salty tears streaming down your face, Sicheng pulled away and pecked you lightly on the nose. Finally looking up at him, something you had refused to do days prior to the marriage arrangement, since you despised saying goodbye, you saw his glistening tear ducts reflected by the silver moonlight.

“I-I don’t wanna do this, Chengie. I don’t love him and I can’t love him. My heart belongs to you, and it always will. I, I just can’t leave you behind,” you managed to say through the choking sobs, flinging your arms around the handsome general’s neck.

In response, he snaked his hands around your waist, sniffling as he wiped his face with his pristine uniform.

“Look at me, Y/N,” Sicheng lifted your chin up, tilting it so that you faced him. Your eyes bored into his skull, as if you were trying to print a permanent image of him to display in your brain 24/7.

“No, not like that,” he laughed flatly, his attempt to lift the mood failing miserably, “don’t look at me like you’re taking away part of my heart. Look at me like you’ll take our memories with you, and our love. Just, don’t take me. I can’t bear it. I can’t have my body here and my heart thousands of miles away, with you. Please, let this be our las-”

He was met with your finger shushing his mouth, another tear dropping and splashing on your hand, “Not that word. Don’t say that. There is no l-a-s-t when it comes to us. This is just-” you exhaled shakily, your shoulders bobbing up and down as you did.

Sicheng’s glassy eyes spilled over with tears once again, the sight of you so hopeful and optimistic in a situation like this reminded him of your many positive qualities, one of them being that you were the living epitome of happiness, one of the qualities he was going to miss the most, “this is just a rest. The story of us has ended for now. But the sequel is waiting for us. We just haven’t got there yet. Promise me we’ll get there?” your voice broke with the overwhelming sadness as you held your pinky out towards Sicheng.

He intertwined his finger with yours, unable to speak, so he just nodded. Both of you stood in the parlour in a blissful silence, holding each other in your arms during your last moments together.

A butler lightly tapped on the door, his rough, baritone voice shattering your peaceful atmosphere.

“Your Highness, the prince’s carriage has arrived. General Dong, please escort the prince/princess to their fiancé.”

Sicheng caressed your face, wiping away a fresh batch of tears, and pulled you into your final kiss. You revelled in his plush lips, but pushed him away from you almost immediately.

“You need to go, right, I-I’m sorry. I promise I’ll be here for our sequel. I love you, Y/N,” he sobbed into the crook of your neck.

You took his hand in yours and hid behind the stoic, royal persona that you had used your entire life, afraid that you would expose your secret relationship to your parents waiting outside, “I love you too, Sicheng. I’ll see you in our next chapter.”

You confidently strided out of the parlour, your ‘personal guard’ walking respectively behind you, as you said farewell to your old life, and stepped into your new one.
