While I was looking into Fulla dolls, I found out another Muslim fashion doll was released around the same time!
Tumblr media
Meet Razanne! (And be prepared for a loooooong deep dive under the Keep Reading lol)
From what I've been able to piece together from various sources, she was created by Palestinian-American Ammar Saadeh and his wife Noor in 1996, being initially launched through the internet before more publicly advertised to Middle-Eastern and American audiences in 2004. Their goal was to show Muslim girls that "what matters is what's inside you, not how you look" (quoted from an interview with Greensoboro News and Record). They wanted to give them a role model with an emphasis on education and religion, while also having a career! To reflect the diversity of the global Muslim ummah, each of her dolls came in three variants: Pakistani-Indian (olive skin w/ dark hair), Black (dark skin w/ dark hair), and Caucasian (fair skin w/ fair hair).
While unfortunately she's no longer in production, the WayBack machine has a record of all her dolls released through the Noorart website! Each doll listing also includes additional information to educate on Islamic culture!
Tumblr media
First there's Schoolgirl Razanne, whose listing reads:
"Razanne loves school and is all ready with her bright red book bag to join her friends in class. For your information…Traditional uniforms are worn by schoolgirls in Islamic schools. In addition to the usual subjects, students also study the Arabic language and the Qur'an - the Muslim Holy Book."
Tumblr media
Next we have Teacher Razanne, whose listing reads:
"What is a more honorable and specialized career than education? Our teacher Razanne comes full equipped with lap top computer, briefcase and all the necessary items for school. For your information... Many Muslim girls study to become educators. Two-piece suits with jacket and skirt are popular styles for Muslim women who work outside the home as teachers or other professionals."
Tumblr media
There's Playday Razanne, who unlike the prior two came with no accessories, her listing reads:
"Dressing modestly doesn't keep Razanne from having fun! On the playground, Razanne plays in her scarf and a loose fitting jumper that gives her lots of room to run and jump. For your information... Dressing modestly doesn't prevent Muslim girls from having fun outdoors! Whether biking, skating, on the playground or at the park children manage to have fun no matter where they are!"
Tumblr media
We also have a Muslim Scout Razanne, who came with a free audiotape of Muslim Scout Cheers and a preview of We Love Muhammad! Her listing reads:
"'I'm honest, kind and trustworthy.' Muslim Scouts' organizations all over the world help build character and skills for success in this life and the next. Razanne wears her merit badges and awards earned for community service, Islamic behavior and Qur'an memorization. Respect for Allah, parents and all members of the community are a top priority with Razanne. For your information…like all Scout troops, Muslim Scouts are encouraged to excel in personal attributes such as honesty, cooperation and leadership as well as taking an active part in community service and environmental protection."
Tumblr media
Next up there's Eid Mubarak Razanne, which came two different color variants for her outfit, her listing reading:
"Razanne is all ready to celebrate the Muslim holiday. Dressed in her new floral fashions of pink or blue, Razanne has Eid cards addressed to all her friends and is ready to deocorate the party with balloons. The perfect Eid gift for any girl! For your information… Muslims celebrate two major festivals each year. One is the Eid Al Fitr following the month-long fast of Ramadan. A second holiday occurs during the annual Pilgrimage to Makkah. Children and adults look forward to these two special days with great anticipation. Before the Eid the entire family goes out shopping for new clothes to wear for Eid Day. Early Eid morning the family meets with other members of the community for an Eid Prayer then disperse to family gatherings and other celebrations. Children are often given gifts of toys or money and families exchange delectable sweets that differ according to the region in which they live. Muslims exchange greetings of Eid Mubarak,"Eid Congratulations", Eid Saeed, "Happy Eid" and wish each other a coming year full of God's blessings. Kul 'am wa anta bi khair!"
Tumblr media
I wasn't able to find any other images for Prayer Razanne like the others unfortunately, and apparently she came with accessories too! Her listing reads:
"Allahu Akbar! God is the Greatest! It's time to pray and Razanne is ready! When it's time for prayer, many Muslim girls cover their everyday clothes with these traditional two-piece garments and stand to pray on colorful prayer rugs. We receive so many letters from customers that tell us that Razanne usually joins the family for salah! For your information… when it's time for prayer, many Muslim girls cover their everyday clothes with these traditional two-piece garments and stand to pray on colorful prayer rugs. Muslim women may pray in congregation at the Mosque but it is often more convenient to pray the five daily prayers at home."
Tumblr media
And finally we have In And Out Razanne, whose listing reads:
"In and Out Razanne comes with a two-piece fashion set for wear inside and outside the home. At home Razanne loves to dress in all the latest fashions. In a minute she can be ready to go out with this traditional jilbaab coat. Razanne helps Muslim girls understand that in the home they can be the ultimate fashion statement yet still have attractive attire while dressing modestly outside the home. For your information…Razanne helps Muslim girls understand that in the home they can be the ultimate fashion statement yet still have attractive attire while dressing modestly outside the home."
I'm honestly so glad I found this, because doing research into this doll has been a blast! I love the vintage vibes of her outfits with the patterns and color choices, and it makes me really happy seeing this doll being used as an educational tool for Islamic culture and practices!
Thank you to limbedolls.blogspot.com, emel.com, Greensboro News and Record, and "Framing Muslims" by Peter Morey and Amina Yaqin for the information that went into this long-ass post!
Ramadan Kareem!

Hi, so as far as my family knows, our family name is Catalan, but we can't trace our family line before we moved to Cuba. So I was wondering if many Catalan people moved to Cuba when it became outlawed in Spain? Or in the times leading up to it being outlawed?
Thanks!
Hola!
Cuba is one of the countries with a largest Catalan diaspora. Catalan people were forbidden from going to the Americas (who were Castillian colonies) until the year 1778, and it still took a while for people to start going in large numbers.
Catalan people first migrated to Cuba in the 19th century, a few were rich people who went there for commerce (even involved in slave traffic! 😱) and soon more poor people started going, too, after their lives were turned upside-down by the phylloxera pest. Back then, in many parts of the Catalan Countries most people worked in the vineyard fields or related trades that had to do with winemaking, but in the mid-1800s the phylloxera (an insect from North America that destroys vineyards' roots) arrived to Europe and destroyed the fields. The effects of the phylloxera were absolutely devastating: thousands of people lost all their vineyards, whole areas lost their income, poverty reached the extreme. With the countryside ravaged, people desperately looked for new jobs, and many found that the only option was to emigrate. The vineyard-making rural areas suddenly lost population, who were going to the cities or abroad. Most of these Catalan farmers who went abroad went to Cuba, because it was seen as a land of opportunity where people could make a good living. Usually (and like many economical migrants nowadays), they had the idea that they would go, make money, and come back home, but (not unlike many economical migrants nowadays) most did not make that much money, and decided to stay in Cuba. Many Catalan immigrants in Cuba ran corner shops, they were so poor that they slept behind the shop's counter because they didn't have any other home than the shop. I have read that in 19th century Cuba, people even used the expression "to go to the Catalan on the corner" (el catalán de la esquina) or just "to go to the Catalan" (el catalán) to mean going to a corner shop (same as now many European countries say "to go to the Pakistani"). Besides these ones, a strong network of Catalan merchants also established itself in Cuba, trading with sugar and coffee.
Of course, the "corner Catalans" could not afford to come back, but the ones involved in slave trading or commerce with products grown by slaves often could. The poverty at home and the return of these rich people created the image of the "indiano" or "americano", meaning someone who had gone to Cuba (or, less commonly, Puerto Rico), had become rich, and had come back dressed in elegant fashionable clothes, the man smoking a thick cigar, and built a beautiful house in his hometown. The "indiano" became part of the collective imagination, and was a very prestigious person. These "indiano-style" buildings (they sent the command to start building the house from America, before coming back) and the presence of the "indianos" promoted the idea of Cuba as a place of opportunities even more. Still nowadays, in Catalan we have the expression "fer les Amèriques" ("to do the Americas") meaning to get very rich.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Examples of indiano houses in Begur and Cadaqués.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Examples of indiano houses in Sitges.
And the same happened the other way around a bit later: in Cuba, art nouveau was introduced in large part by Catalans, and the early houses built in this style were called "catalanadas" by Cubans.
In Sitges, there's even a pair of "giants" that represent these "indianos". "Giants" are a traditional element of Catalan folk culture, they're hollow figures that represent the mythical founders of a town or someone important from their local history or legends. In the case of Sitges (like in many more towns that used to be the border between Muslim and Christian kingdoms when they were founded), it's a pair of Muslim nobles and Christian nobles from the Middle Ages. But in the 1960s they decided to add another pair of smaller giants to represent the "indianos". This goes to show how the idea of the "indiano" almost as a mythical category has survived.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The "americanos" giants in Sitges.
For these reasons, there is a long list of famous Cubans of the Catalan diaspora, including the president of the first independent Cuban constitutional assembly (Asemblea de Guáimaro) Bartolomé Masó, Facund Bacardí (founder of the Bacardí rum company), the revolutionary and Cuban independence hero Leoncio Vidal, the musician and conductor Xavier Cugat, the poet José Martí, la reina del bolero Olga Guillot, the dancer Aurora Bosch, the anti-Fulgencio Batista intellectual Mario Llerena, the anarchist thinker Fernando Tarrida del Mármol and his uncle the Cuban independence general Donato Mármol, among others.
Besides Catalan-Cubans being involved in Cuban independence from the Spanish empire, they also were involved in the Catalan independence movement. For example, the flag of Catalan independence (estelada) was created in the early 1900s by a Catalan in Cuba, who used the triangle of the Cuban flag that means independence.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Cuban flag and the Catalan independence flag.
The Catalan diaspora in Cuba also created the first "Casal Català" ("Catalan house") in 1840 in Habana. A Casal Català is a social centre where Catalan emigrants meet, for example to celebrate the Catalan holidays, and also open Catalan culture to other people, such as by offering Catalan classes. Nowadays, there are 128 Casals Catalans in all 5 continents.
Another way in which Cuba has had a deep mark in Catalan culture is the music genre havaneres, which are melancholic songs that fishermen, sailors and emigrants sang.
The other moment with a highest number of Catalan emigrants (refugees and exiles) was after the fascists' victory in the Spanish Civil War (1939), but few of them went to Cuba then. Most went to Mexico, Venezuela, and France, and some also to Chile, Argentina, Colombia, and to a lesser extent the UK and the USA.

it’s time to infodump, me thinks.
⚠️⚠️DEAD BOY DETECTIVES SPOILERS AGEAD⚠️⚠️
Ok so, I don’t know if you’ve heard of it, but I’ve been posting about it a lot. I’m obsessed with this Netflix show dead boy detectives.
It’s based on a DC comic series created by Neil gaiman. It’s about two ghosts, Edwin payne (an Edwardian school boy who was killed by demonic sacrifice and spent 70 years in hell before he escaped) and Charles Rowland (an 80’s punk who went to the same school as Edwin but 70 years later, and died bc he stood up for a Pakistani kid. His friends threw rocks at him while he was in a freezing lake. He died of hypothermia and internal bleeding)
The parallels of their deaths is literally so scrumptious. Like both perceived as odd? Yes. (Edwin seemed queer, in both senses of the word. And Charles was seen as weird bc he wasn’t white and also had pink views and style). Both killed by people they thought were their friends? Yes. It’s so wonderful.
So basically, they run a detective agency together, where they solve mysteries for ghosts, that way said ghosts can conclude their unfinished business and move on. However Edwin and Charles are constantly running from death, because Edwin wants to help others, and Charles wants to stay close to Edwin. One of their cases leads them to a psychic girl named crystal palace. She can see them bc of her powers (also important note, people with near death experiences can see ghosts as well). She was possessed by a demon (who is anlso her ex situationship/bf(?) and named David. He anlso wears a fuck aas ugly fedora) and they helped her. But the thing is she can’t remember anything, so Charles being the sweetie he is tells her she can stay with them. Edwin doesn’t like this bc she is human and humans are “messy,” he is also jealous bc he can tell Charles likes her. Well, he pushes that asside and desires to just be catty towards her. Crystal’s powers lead them to begin a new case, across the pond, one might say, in Port Townsend Washington (for reference their office is set up in London I believe. So this is a long journey) they land and hijinks immediately ensue.
One demon named cat king, many cases closed, one Charles and crystal kiss, a lesbian butcher date gone wrong, one sweet yaoi loving Aquarius girl, a crow turned boy, an evil witch, a walrus turned man, a few constituents of death, and many repressed feelings later, Edwin finds himself ready to admit his feelings for Charles. Btw, Edwin didn’t even know his feelings for Charles was love until a certain crow turned man, kissed him and made him realize. But Edwin is about to tell Charles, when suddenly he is ripped back to hell by a spider made of babydoll heads.
Charles is obviously very upset about this, and he convinces a certain constituent of death to open a portal to hell, so that he can retrieve Edwin. She agrees, but only after reading his memories, and finding out how Edwin and Charles met.
Edwin was soaking wet and shivering in the attic of his boarding school, when he sees a boy dressed in an old uniform carrying a lamp. The boy gives it to him and Charles asks him questions about himself. This is Edwin and he reveals that he is dead. So they talk for the last few hours of Charles’s life. Edwin had literally just escaped hell, and felt he had to help a boy who had undergone something as, if not more, traumatic than himself. This is why Charles wanted to stay with him and help him solve cases.
After she sees this, Charles basically says “he shouldn’t be in hell.”
And he goes to find him. He guides himself with a map that Edwin had drawn in a notebook. When he finds Edwin in hell, Edwin is shaking and terrified. He reveals that his punishment is to see himself be ripped to shreds by this spider thing. He says he can’t make it out, and Charles is basically like “naw mate I’m here” and he throws an old timer bomb at the spider.
They run away and as they are running through the last layer of hell, the staircase back up to the mortal realm, Edwin stops. And he’s like “Charles so gotta tell u this in case we don’t make it. I love u” and Charles is like “yah i loc eu too ur my best mate” and Edwin says “no I love you as more than a friend, I fear.” My reaction to that: 😭😭 And Charles essentially says “is this some typa Orpheus and Eurydice type shit” and Edwin is like “bruh that story ends badly.” To which Charles goes “idk I didn’t finish it I was bored. Anyway, I can’t say necessarily that I’m IN love with you. But if we make it outta here, we will have like eternity to figure it out.
so they escape, and Edwin is like “I was rejected”
BUT DUDE. Charles literally said, I haven’t thought of my love for you as romantic, but we have time for me to figure out if I can love you like that.
And I think about that everyday 😭😭😭😭
This is a very simplified version of the story. There’s so much sad awful heartbreaking shit. But I cut it out for ur sake. This show is like addicting. Straight up crack.
Anyway, thanks for listening to my incoherent babbling. If u made it this far… congrats? Idk
Ok bye bye.
I did make it that far. That seems very interesting!

I have no idea what I'm on lately tbh but guess what dear people
This post is dedicated specifically to Aquila, goldenheart kid I made up because fankids are very fun to create. It's especially fun to try and analyze your blorbos' relationship and how they'd raise a kid if they had one, what hurdles they'd face in a calm family routine, when, instead of fighting the government and dancing with anarchistic sharks, the main problem is "What should I make for dinner today?"
Specifically I wanna talk about Aquila's design and why they are the way they are
Tumblr media
When making their outfit, what I took most inspiration from was citizens' casual style of clothes. They wear a long purple dress (I hate the order of adjectives so much english why are you so damn hard), their boots are actually supposed to be those baggy boots the hero of every old fairytale wears. To mix medieval with modern, tho, I took Ambrosius's hoodie (WHY DID I CALL IT A SWEATER ON THE PIC- MY BRAIN IS NOT WORKING) and renovated it a little bit :D
I can imagine the fam cleaning the house as usual when Aquila finds something in the old box, that being the hoodie
Aquila: Appa, look what I found! It's so cool! Can I wear it?
Ambrosius: Honey, this thing is two decades old! Let's just buy you a new one
Aquila: But I want this one. Specifically. Please🥺
Ambrosius: A-a-alright, you can keep it
And then they made a new clothing out of it
As for the face, their features aren't that sharp, they're soft, round, the face is flat. I guess Ambrosius kinda won the genetics battle
Like look at this
Tumblr media
Shoutout to that one half-Pakistani half-Korean guy who popped up when I searched for references
Their nose, however, is something entirely on its own lololol. And their hair is exactly like Ballister's, very dark brown and soft and beautiful💅
As for the eyes, I think they're like. The prettiest dark brown color you've ever met. Ballister's gorgeous brown eyes + Ambrosius's gentle voids surely do mix greatly
I have no idea why the need to describe how this one made-up silly fankid I made look but!! I sure know I have a comic for you at the end lmaoo
Ambrosius Boldheart ft. the Goldenloins and awkward family relationship
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ambrosius gives his parents ZERO mercy. As they deserve tbh. He's ending the cycle y'all, he's a Boldheart now and he won't let the fruit of his and his husband's love be put on as many expectations as he had on his shoulders way too young
I have so so many ideas about how Goldenloins are like, I could blog a bunch of different things about my guesses of their personalities and looks hahaha!
Goodnight y'all, I'm going to sleep since it's my mom's birthday tomorrow

Top Pakistani Kurta Set Trends to Watch This Season
Tumblr media
Pakistani kurta sets have always been a symbol of elegance and tradition. This season, the trends are shifting towards more contemporary styles while retaining their cultural roots. Pyoor, a brand known for its high-quality Pakistani kurta set for women, is at the forefront of these trends. Whether you’re looking for something vibrant or minimalist, there’s a trend for everyone. Let’s explore the top Pakistani kurta set trends you should watch this season.
Vibrant Color Palettes
Color plays a crucial role in fashion, and this season, vibrant hues are making a strong statement. Bright, bold colors such as mustard, fuchsia, and royal blue are dominating the market. These shades are perfect for making a striking impression, whether you’re attending a wedding or a casual get-together. Pyoor’s Solid Yellow Kurta Set is a perfect example of this trend, combining a bright hue with a simple yet elegant design.
Incorporating vibrant colors into your wardrobe doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Start by pairing a brightly colored kurta with neutral bottoms. For instance, a mustard kurta with white trousers can create a balanced yet eye-catching look. Moreover, vibrant colors are not just for special occasions; they can easily be adapted for everyday wear. Cotton suit sets in bright shades can add a pop of color to your daily attire without being too bold.
Intricate Embroidery and Detailing
Another trend that is making a comeback this season is intricate embroidery. Embroidery has always been a significant part of Pakistani fashion, and this season, it’s all about detailed work. From floral patterns to geometric designs, embroidery adds a layer of sophistication to any Pakistani kurta set. The Heer Set by Pyoor is an excellent example, featuring delicate embroidery that enhances its overall appeal.
Tumblr media
When styling embroidered kurta sets, balance is essential. A heavily embroidered kurta pairs beautifully with plain bottoms, letting the intricate details shine. If you lean towards a more understated look, choose kurta sets with minimal embroidery to enjoy the trend without going overboard. Embroidery isn’t just for formal occasions either. You’ll find plenty of casual embroidered kurta sets online, including at Pyoor, that are perfect for daily wear.
Contemporary Silhouettes
Fashion is always changing, and kurta set silhouettes are no exception. This season, modern cuts are taking the spotlight, combining traditional styles with fresh, contemporary elements. Think of asymmetric hemlines, flared sleeves, and A-line cuts—these are just a few ways kurta sets are being reimagined. Pyoor’s collection includes a variety of these updated silhouettes, blending both classic and modern vibes.
These contemporary designs are versatile, fitting any occasion. An A-line kurta is great for a casual day out, while an asymmetrical hemline kurta can be dressed up for a formal event. But it’s not just about looking good—these cuts are also designed for comfort and easy movement, making them perfect for long days. By adding these modern silhouettes to your wardrobe, you can enjoy the latest trends while still embracing the timeless appeal of a traditional Pakistani kurta set.
Sustainable and Organic Fabrics
Tumblr media
Sustainable fabrics are not only environmentally friendly but also offer several benefits for the wearer. For instance, organic cotton is softer and more breathable, making it ideal for the warmer months. Additionally, sustainable fabrics are often more durable, meaning your Pakistani kurta set will last longer. By choosing Pakistani kurta online options made from sustainable materials, you can contribute to a more eco-friendly fashion industry.
Minimalist Designs
In contrast to the vibrant colors and intricate embroidery, minimalist designs are also gaining popularity this season. Simple, clean lines and monochromatic palettes define this trend, offering a refreshing break from more elaborate styles. Minimalist kurta sets are perfect for those who prefer understated elegance. Pyoor’s collection includes a range of minimalist designs that are both timeless and refined.
Minimalist designs are versatile and can be easily dressed up or down depending on the occasion. For a casual look, pair a simple kurta with matching trousers and minimal accessories. For a more formal event, add a statement necklace or a pair of bold earrings. The beauty of minimalist designs lies in their simplicity, allowing you to make a statement without being too flashy. Moreover, minimalist kurta sets are perfect for those who prefer a more understated look but still want to stay on-trend.
How to Choose the Right Kurta Set for You
With so many trends to choose from, selecting the right kurta set can be overwhelming. Here are a few tips to help you make the right choice:
Consider Your Personal Style: Whether you prefer bold colors or minimalist designs, choose a kurta set that reflects your personal style.
Think About the Occasion: A heavily embroidered kurta set may be perfect for a wedding, while a simple cotton suit set is ideal for everyday wear.
Pay Attention to Fabric: Opt for sustainable and comfortable fabrics, especially if you plan to wear the kurta set for long periods.
Check the Fit: A well-fitted kurta set not only looks better but also feels more comfortable. Ensure that the silhouette flatters your body type.
By keeping these tips in mind, you can select a Pakistani kurta set that is both refined and suitable for your needs.
Conclusion
This season’s Pakistani kurta set trends offer something for everyone, from vibrant colors to minimalist designs. Pyoor’s collection embodies these trends, providing a wide range of options for those who want to stay ahead of the fashion curve. Whether you prefer intricate embroidery or contemporary silhouettes, there’s a Pakistani kurta set for women that will suit your taste.
Explore Pyoor’s latest collection today and find the perfect kurta set to add to your wardrobe. With trends like these, you’re sure to find something that not only fits your style but also keeps you on-trend this season.

Here’s how I picture The Magnus Protocol characters so far:
Sam is a thin Pakistani man, late 20s, pressed slacks and button down, no tie. Short neat beard, no glasses.
Alice is a very tall, slim transwoman, with killer cheekbones. She dresses in an ironic 1950s vintage style.
Gwen looks kind of like a living anime character. Short, medium build, pageboy hairstyle, very pointed nose. Wears slacks and jackets.
Colin is red haired, a little tubby, dresses like Sam, but with a hoodie in the server room where it’s cold.

I just finished ms. marvel the show for the first time. so short answer is: wowwww but long answer is: it has some positives and negatives.
Let’s start with negatives.
Changing Kamala’s powers. I know kamala isn’t as popular as some long time heroes but embegging is her whole gimmick! It’s like if someone took Peter Parker and gave him the powers of a snail and was called snail-man. And her powers are so cool too. I was so excited to see CGI stretching and polymorphic powers, you can do the hands part via literally iPhone camera, how could the whole marvel budget didn’t cut it?? No we got to have… light, for some reason. I’m just scared that other adaptation are going to do the same like in some new comics or games or something, I really, really hope not
Misrepresentation. This one is debatable, because as Muslim, the bar we have for American shows to represent us isn’t even on the floor, it’s lower, so I was pleasantly surprised to find that they didn’t 100% mess it up. But still there are so many minor technicalities, that might seem minor for someone outside of the religion/culture but for those are part of it, it’s a really big deal. Like some scenes, doing wudu with nail polish on, posting in the masjid, a dad telling his son to stop praying, so many words used in the wrong context, the whole djinn concept just shows that there was no Muslim opinion taken into consideration during filming.
the so many love interests. Like, 3, seriously, one wasn’t enough?? There shouldn’t even be one, but I digress. And just all the scenes involving the romantic subtext of each one literally made my blood boil. Literally this whole point could summarised to just the boys, they were so unnecessary.
And now let’s get to the positives, because despite the points made previously, I really enjoyed this show.
The representation. As I said before, it’s perfect, but it’s not bad. Then again, the only thing we share is us being Muslim. I’m Arab where kamala is Pakistani and these things heavily affect how people practice Islam, and also I live in a Muslim, Arab country where almost everyone is Muslim where kamala live the US, a place where she’s a minority. So of course there will be differences between our experiences. But I love how many arabic phrases were spoken during the show, the Eid scene, the masjid scene, the whole wedding episode. It was all so good and nice and representative.
My favourite thing about the show honestly is how artistic and stylised it is. They weren’t very consistent with it, but it was still good. All the different fonts and styles for the ms marvel intro was so amazing, I want to screenshot every frame. The credits are so well done too. When they want to show how daydreamy kamala is and there’s doodles around and different pieces of media incorporated in that. It was all so creative. The intro captain america scene was one of my top 5, to be honest
I love the costume design, especially kamala’s. They were all so modest, obviously. But they also showed Kamala’s personality, through her drawing and patches and just the colours and everything. They were so many stars and bolts, It’s just so similar to how I dress.
The progression of her relationship with her mom. I genuinely think that there’s no greater or stronger or closer bond between two people in this whole wide world than between a mother and her eldest daughter, and this show is only one of the many many examples of that. And it’s so relatable and realistic, like her mom being overprotective and hovering because that’s the result of generational trauma and how her mom was too distant, and she was just doing her best and just wants the best for her daughter and Kamala is such a sweet girl. So many of their scene together made my heart melt.
Centralising not just family, but the matriarchs in the family was such a smart move. because mothers truly are the ones who make families and heritage and everything is always tied back to them. Something something the souls of mothers residing in their daughters. The whole partition train episode had me bawling my eyes out.
The rest is just some things I love about kamala generally in every adaptation/timeline/universe
I just really love how unapologetically nerdy and dorky kamala is. She’s such a fangirl, she loves comics and superheros (usually women) and of course captain marvel. And she engages in that, she draws and make projects and her whole room is decorated in what interests like her. I just really love people like that, both fictional and in real life. (I may be projecting but I feel like it’s giving adhd, like it’s giving hyperfixation.)
Showing the brown girl experience of idolising older white women and wishing that we could do everything they do, but still believing that we can’t because of a variety of reasons but then overcoming that and doing the things you wanna do your way anyway
Just how good kamala is. She’s so polite but still speaks her mind respectfully. She helps people all the time even when she doesn’t have to. she’s always so nice and sympathetic to everyone. And even though she can become a giant, that is her greatest strength because people always want to repay her goodness and they always want to help her back. And it’s just so heartwarming.

𝐊𝐈𝐒𝐒 𝐅𝐑𝐎𝐌 𝐀 𝐕𝐀𝐌𝐏𝐈𝐑𝐄 — send me a lil description of yourself + fandom(s) and i'll ship you with someone + give you your best friend !
for f1 & marauders please! here's a description of me (tbh idk how much info you want so):
lola, I'm pansexual, she/her, I'm korean-pakistani, born and raised in the uk, 5'5, brown skin, long-ish black hair and black eyes, I tend to dress in a mixture of clothes, very into fashion (I love pintrest) and fashion weeks are the highlight of my year, I love football (liverpool fan), I love formula one (ferrari, mercedes, and redbull), and I do archery in my spare time, i'm fluent in 3 languages english urdu and punjabi, i'm also not really in touch with my korean side, which is why I want to try and learn korean some time in the future, also have alot's of family trauma!!, I'm currently in uni studying psychology and I want to become a therapist, I love animals and I have two dogs (salt and pepper) and a cat (bartolomeu the cannible), I love music and spend alot of my time creating playlists, very chaotic (adhd), my fav season is either spring or autumn, I love aesthetic things, and am kinda a perfectionist, very much a people pleaser, kinda nervous around new people, love writing stories, I have a older brother, can't cook to save my life (unless it's pot noddle), also I love spicy food!!
ahh thanks so much for sending this in lola bby ,, was super fun to pair you up w these ppl so i hope you like it <333
ᝰ.ᐟ 𝐅𝟏
𝐢'𝐝 𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐦𝐚𝐱 𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐧 !
i could have chosen so , so many drivers here but ultimately maxie won for me !! i just think the dynamic would be something so special and perfect ,, so he won for me here🤭
ᡣ𐭩 your interest in fashion and mixture of styles is something max really admires about you - he's never really been someone who knows a lot about fashion , so seeing you effortlessly put together outfits and be so passionate about clothing is so endearing to him !! his style definitely gets 10x better after you start dating (and oh my god are the fans eternally grateful for it)
ᡣ𐭩 of course , max also adores salt, pepper, and bartolomeu ! he may have a secret agenda to get them to absolutely love him in return , because any time he's at your place he's showering them in love , pets , and affection , mumbling about how cute they are (and how they must take after their mother)
ᡣ𐭩 max is enchanted by your hair and eyes , i swear . there’s something about the way they compliment your brown skin perfectly that just has him awe-struck , and he’s been caught staring at the way the light catches your eyes or how your hair falls over your shoulders more times than he would like
ᡣ𐭩 the fact that you’re a perfectionist is something max both admires and can heavily relate to — he always strives to do the best and be the best that he can , so he loves that you both share that trait !! that being said , max always offers you a level of grace that he doesn’t really offer to himself . if you’re ever getting worked up about something not quite going the way you want it , he’s pressing a kiss to your temple and assuring you that it’s great , and you shouldn’t put too much pressure onto yourself (hypocrite of the year award goes to your boyfriend!!)
𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐛𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐝 𝐰𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐛𝐞 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐫𝐜 !
ᡣ𐭩 you and charles definitely bond a lot over your love for music !! whether it’s charles sending you samples of some piano compositions he’s been working on or you guys sending playlists and song recs back and forth , music plays a big part in your friendship !!
ᡣ𐭩 you often love to tease charles for his inability to handle spicy food (those pics of him eating that chilli were definitely taken by you , and of course you didn’t let him live it down) , but you sadly can’t make fun of him for his lack of cooking skills, since he could turn around and hit you with the exact same claim . you and charles quickly learned that cooking together would never be a large part of your friendship (charles’ frying pan never truly recovered from the one time you decided to be ambitious and cook a meal from scratch)
ᡣ𐭩 really admires your love for aesthetic things and often asks you for your opinion on his latest ig posts / photodumps , wanting to be sure that they not only look nice , but also go well with the rest of his feed
ᝰ.ᐟ 𝐌𝐀𝐑𝐀𝐔𝐃𝐄𝐑𝐒
𝐢'𝐝 𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐣𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐩𝐨𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 !
okay now this just made oh so much sense to me , i can't explain it !!! you and james would be an absolute power couple , i'm convinced !
ᡣ𐭩 absolutely obsessed with your height difference . james is a tall lad , and the fact that you're shorter than him just makes his heart happy . he loves being able to press kisses to the top of your head easily , and loves how he can practically engulf you into his arms with every single hug . of course , he jokes about how you're killing his back every time he has to lean down for a kiss , but the dopey grin he gives you afterwards lets you know he's never being serious
ᡣ𐭩 james loves the fact that you want to learn korean in the future to get more in touch with your korean side , and is more than willing to help you in any way he can !! can he speak a lick of korean ? absolutely not . but he's determined to support you however possible , learning some basic phrases here and there and allowing you to practice on him , even if he has no idea what you're saying to him
ᡣ𐭩 your chaotic energy matches so well with james' bright and excitable demeanour , and you two bounce off of each other so well . it's almost like you were made for each other , honestly - sirius always jokes that someone must have made you specifically for james , because who else would be able to put up with his insane amount of energy if not you ??
ᡣ𐭩 james doesn't really know much about muggle sports , but god is he determined to learn about your favourites so he can keep up with you !! he'll watch football games with you and try his hardest to correlate it to quidditch so it computes in his mind a little easier , but watching a grand prix with you was a whole other ordeal . could not wrap his head around it and sat there with a baffled expression for at least three hours , even after you tried so hard to explain it to him in the simplest of terms . all he knows is fast cars racing , and he thinks that's satisfactory enough just to see your smile whenever he asks to watch a race with you
𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐛𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐝 𝐰𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐛𝐞 𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐦𝐚𝐜𝐝𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐝 !
ᡣ𐭩 this was just an absolute no brainer to me !! i mean , with your love for fashion , who else is a better fit for your best friend than the most stylish girl out there ??? mary loves talking fashion with you , and you guys definitely end up sharing wardrobes , her clothes becoming yours and vice versa .
ᡣ𐭩 mary is also a lover of spring , and you two definitely make the most out of the season when it rolls around !! the moment it's sunny enough , you guys are going on picnics (and of course , the set-up is pretty enough to rival a pinterest board) , picking fresh flowers , and fawning over all of the baby animals being born , like the small bunnies that tend to roam the fields you two frequent !
ᡣ𐭩 whenever she notices you getting a little nervous around new people , mary tries her hardest to make you as comfortable as possible . she doesn't want to talk over you or for you , but she'll definitely take the spotlight off of you for a little if you prefer , allowing you to get to know the new faces on your own terms and build your confidence at your own pace !!!

Nana's House Installation, London College of Fashion - Community Co-Curator
Nana's House is an interactive living room installation, as part of Designed for Life which coincided with the opening of the new campus in Stratford, East London, UK.
The living room reflects and represents a broad heterogeneity of lives and experiences in East London told through a fictional family gathered on a Sunday afternoon at Nana's house, using artefacts and QR-linked soundscapes to represent each family member.
"Nana's one of a kind, and so is her house. It's Sunday afternoon, and her Leytonstone Victorian terrace is at capacity. Mum, dad, uncle and Grandad congregate around the jollof, but I'm more interested in the sweet, spiced tea and homemade samosas that have made a regular appearance here since we took in a lodger - an Indian-Muslim exchange student from Hyderabad.
My grandparents have lived here long before I was born. The walls tell the tale of an exuberant young textile worker arriving in London in 1960, fresh from Ondo State, Nigeria, with an infatuation with the latest in fashion and design. Over the years my mum has tried to add some modern toches; working in finance, she began to share her wealth in the late 80s with a new TV and sofa - much to the apathy of Grandad, who only believes in fixing what is broken.
Grandad was a print worker, a determined trade unionist whose career ended at age 48 with a labour dispute on Wapping High Street in 1987. A "real East Londoner born within earshot of the Bow Bells", he fought the resurgence of fascism around Ridley Road Market with the 62 Group and got bruised, whilst mourning the death of his and nana's first newborn, in battles against Oswold Mosely.
He tells stories of how he fell in love with Nana in 1961 to a soundtrack of Marvin Gaye. They triumphed against melancholy and fell deeper in love. In 1966, they celebrated the World Cup win for England together, of which West Ham players were an integral factor!
Having spent the summer away from my parents, I am inspired by the community and political strength of my grandparents. I collide with my parents' capitalist complicity - working in government and global trade; they mock my uncle who gave himself earnestly and entirely to the rave scene of Lea Valley." Soundbites of the family members: • A phone call to the lodger - shopping in Ilford as a Pakistani woman • Grandson - Teenage Frustrations • Grandad - The History Of An East London Print Worker • Nana - A Nigerian Matriarch • Uncle - Cultural History Of The East London Rave Scene • Mum - Affluence, Influence & Merit • Lodger - Far From Home • Bonus
Nana's House was created by lead curator Dr Leila Nassereldein and co-curated by community members Pallavi Chamarty, Omolara Obanishola, Dave Sohanpal and Anh Tran. Supported by Dr Michael McMillan
Artist's works featured around the living room: • Poppy Frean • Sahira Khan • Mercedes Halliday • Shama Kun • Brahim Bendaoud • Lydia Wood • Asim Khairdean • Toyin Gbomedo • John Curtis Films on the TV: • Looking for You - Anna Nguyen & Kristine Landon Smith • Sonia's Whitechapel - Hend Draz, Maya Leonavicius, Fangjiao Liu, Jake London, Angela Josephine Smith & Claire Wasson with special thanks to Sonia Sylvester • Radical Nostalgias - Mercedes Halliday • To Style a Life for Oneself (trailer) - Omolara Obanishola • Dress For Our Time: In conversation with Helen Storey and Michael Saunby - Helen Storey • Drawing Reality - TIGERs • Tarek’s Story - David Betteridge • Reflections from Za’atar - Helen Storey Special thanks to Sahira, Lord Tusk, Theresa, Tony Sullivan, Lee McKarkiel, Furniture Reuse, The Dovetail, Popup Garden Bookshop and Niquelle LaTouche Oct 2023 - Jan 2024
