Biodegradable Packages
Biodegradable packages are a growing trend in sustainable product packaging, offering an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional materials. These packages are designed to break down naturally over time, reducing waste and pollution. Biodegradable packages are an essential component of green packaging and eco-friendly packaging solutions, as they help minimize the long-term environmental impact of discarded packaging. Many companies now incorporate biodegradable packages into their product packaging design to align with their sustainability goals. As consumers demand more sustainable packaging, biodegradable packages are becoming a popular choice for businesses looking to promote packaging and sustainability in their operations.

"A Delhi-based engineer has designed a replacement for polystyrene packaging out of “rice stubble” the dead stalks left over after the rice season in India, millions of tons of which are burned every year.
They say wisdom oft comes from the mouths of babes, and Mr. Arpit Dhupar was at first left scratching his head when his young nephew drew a picture of the world with a grey sky.
Everything else was normal, green grass, yellow sun, white and brown mountains; why was the sky grey? It dawned on him that his nephew was drawing the sky as he saw it every year when the rice stubble was burned: grey.
“We shouldn’t live in a world where we have to explain to kids that the sky should be painted blue. It should be a given,” he told The Better India.
So he launched a new business venture called Dharaksha Ecosystems in order to tackle the rice stubble problem. Essentially, the farmers need it cleared off their land asap after harvest. Its high moisture content means it’s not useful for stove fuel, so they burn it in massive pyres.
In his factory, he turns 250 metric tons of rice stubble harvested from 100 acres of farmland in Punjab and Haryana into packaging, while paying the farmers a rate of $30 per acre for something they would usually burn.
Dhupar originally wanted to use mushrooms to rapidly biodegrade baled stacks of rice stubble, but found that the fungus left behind a metabolite that wasn’t biodegradable—in other words, he’d have to create a waste problem to solve a waste problem.
Over time he realized that the filaments that make up the subterranean structure of the mushrooms, called mycelium, were acting as a sort of binding agent, turning the baled stubble into something durable.
“This wasn’t a waste material but could be a usable one,” said Dhupar. “Through bio-fabrication, we could use the stubble waste to create a material similar to [polystyrene], but one that was biodegradable.”
There are a lot of these sorts of sustainable packaging ideas floating around, invented by people who rarely have experience in markets and commerce. This is not the case with Dhupar’s stubble packaging.
He has already prevented over half a million pounds of polystyrene from entering landfills since launching his product, which has numerous, exceptional properties.
They sell around 20 metric tons of their product every month, making about $30.5 thousand dollars per annum, mostly by selling to glassware companies."

im all about making money but when i see goth influencers with massive pr packages with insane amounts of makeup and clothes and accessories, more than one person could possibly need or even use, i just feel kind of? like what’s the point? what could you possibly need twenty palettes of the same dark shades of eyeshadow for? at what point does it stop being about the community and the subculture and start being about having stuff more stuff and all the stuff?
#idk man like make that money but also jfc#overconsumption is killing subcultures#i feel a bit more conflicted abt like giant pr packages from small businesses and indie brands bc like they need the support#as artists and creatives and such#but the excess just feels so fucking gross#it’s not sustainable and it just feels sad#blayne

What’s the picky eaters AU?
just my little self-indulgent vampire au, that somehow, accidentally, not on purpose ended up being very focused on feeding mechanics. hence the stupid name.
#in the initial au planning stages i happened to get very attached to the idea of supremely fussy vampire baby dazai#food intolerances and pickiness are an essential part of the fussy infant package i think#so that led me to contemplate how blood could actually function as a food source#what factors might influence how it tastes#what nuances a creature that is specifically built to sustain itself on only blood might pick up on#atypical feeding habits (possibly caused by physical ailments or genetics)#nutritional value…#can you cook blood? artificially flavour it? add unregulated food dyes to make it glow in the dark?#…pickle it?#suck blood clots like candy#i don’t fucking know#just lots and lots of supernatural pseudo-biology#i’m not sure how much of that i can actually realistically convey through art#very questionable even when looking at pieces i drew with specific headcanons in mind#so to anyone else this probably looks like the most bog-standard vampire au one could possibly come up with#but in my heart this au is 95% about food

i should learn how to grow and farm vegetables and grains. i would love to grow my own rice, onions, and potatoes someday
#i've always had a passing interest in botany#and i've become really keen on sustainability lately#if i could grow my own food i wouldn't have to worry so much about how expensive everything is#plus it would be less wasteful because of packaging and gas spent going to the store#even if my homegrown stuff only replaced a portion of what i would buy it'd still be better than nothing

look i live in california i know damn well the price of groceries is absurd. but whenever i see someone say “i buy hellofresh because it’s wayyy cheaper than groceries” i wince. you people just dont know how to fucking shop
#and I mean okay that’s not your fault probably but. I don’t know man I don’t like big wasteful companies taking advantage of the fact that#people (namely around my age range) don’t know how to buy staple foods and frozen produce and etc to cook with that lasts a long time and is#absolutely cheaper than hellofresh especially in the long run#I do understand the lack of time/energy to cook meals from scratch believe me but these days I RARELY cook anything that takes longer than#a hellofresh meal would. use the recipes on their website if you want but please im begging you look up tips for sustainable low-effort#grocery shopping.#I will admit. factor meals do tempt me. because my old roommate got them for a couple weeks once and I tried them and was actually very#surprised by the quality. like they actually taste like homemade meals. but logically I know it’s not a good deal except for the time it#would save. sighh#kibumblabs#said roommate is also the reason I tried hellofresh for like a week or two (she bought it and then never wanted to cook anything so I#ended up cooking them so they wouldn’t go bad) and don’t get me wrong they’re not bad#but there’s so much unnecessary packaging waste and the amount you make leaves for basically no leftovers or anything to use later and so on#it’s just really a bad deal in comparison to making anything yourself
