the arcane; part two
pairing: kenny mccormick
————————————————————————
following my math class is lunch, which of course meant i was going back to the art room. my head is in my hands as heidi talks about a cute new boy in her class.
i watch across the table as her hands flail a plastic fork around, a piece of salad hanging on. my eyes droop, even though it's only lunch time.
"what's on your mind, kiddo?" heidi sighs and reaches out for me. i haven't been paying attention to her.
what a good friend i am.
"sorry, heidi." i groan.
"y/n, hon, you didn't get a lunch." i see the look in her face. the same look i get from my mom. my dad. i can't describe the look. i just know.
i can't respond to her, so instead i just look down at my hands. heidi takes the hint, and that's why i love her.
she puts her salad away and clasps her hands together.
"so, what do you think of kenny?" she has a slight smirk on her face.
"what about him?" i respond monotonously.
"he seems to think you're pretty interesting." she looks off to the side, trying to seem nonchalant about the topic.
"i don't think so, heidi." i lean back in my chair and glance at the clock. five minutes before lunch ends. "besides. he seems like an asshole."
"kenny's not an asshole, he's just playing around with you."
"i'd prefer if he just kept to himself."
heidi gives up on the idea and stands up, clutching her bags straps.
"lunch is almost over, walk me to my next class?"
—————————————————
after school i ride the bus back home, my headphones on the whole time as i sit next to a loud clyde donovan. my head is against the window when i see the bus stop sign.
i follow the crowd off the bus again, same as this morning. my eyes drag on the ground, when i notice the bird corpse is gone. probably picked up by some other animal.
my music blares in my ears as i stroll up to my cookie cutter house on our street. the doorknob doesn't budge when i try to open the door, meaning my parents aren't home.
i pull my key out to unlock the door, opening it to see the house dark and cold. coming to my aid is inky, our great pyrenees. he's got his tongue out and his tail slaps against the kitchen island.
"hiya, inky." an authentic smile stretches on my face as i pet his soft head.
my parents got inky when i first started having a hard time with fitting in at school. they felt bad for never being around, so they got a dog to make up for it. they even let me pick his name, and since at the time i was obsessed with playing at the arcade, i named him after the pac-man ghost.
after showering him in affection, my eyes travel to a note is stuck on the fridge. not an unusual occurrence in my home.
'y/n,
your mother is gone on a work trip until wednesday. there's food in the fridge, please eat.
love you, dad'
dad always leaves small formal notes like this when mom leaves, since he works most night shifts. my stomach hurts from being empty for so long, and so i open the fridge to see what i can eat.
there's cold pizza in a bag, and left over lasagna from a couple nights ago. i opt for cereal instead and pour fruity pebbles into a small bowl.
the echo in the bowl makes me feel chilled. lonely. before i know it i'm staring into the distance. thinking about nothing.
my eyes guide back to the food i just poured myself. churning begins in my stomach as i think about eating it. my stomach hurts so bad from its lack of food that the thought of eating anything is sickening.
i need some air.
my house is a five minute alley-walk away from the park in the middle of town. a place that used to be full of people, was now almost abandoned by kids.
the park is like my safe space. like the art room at school. i go there to think.
i make sure to grab my camera before i head out in my coat. the wind is cold as i walk, and snowflakes fall sparsely.
i sit upon a swing, looking up to the sun setting behind the mountains. my camera navigates to my eye and i see the scene through my lense, i snap a picture.
being at the park calms my nerves and i sit there for a while watching the moon rise. my hands hold onto the cold chains on either side of me.
my serenity is interrupted by rough voices to my left. a group of men wander in through the park fence, smoke blowing out of their mouths as they argue.
i stand up quietly, hoping they don't see me since it's dark.
"hey!"
fuck.
the men start to make their way toward me, a dismal feeling floods my abdomen as their rugged faces come into view.
"sorry- i was just leaving." i back up slowly.
"no.. why don't you stay?" one of the men throws a cigarette on the floor and smears it into the ground with his foot.
"i'm okay. really." my voice is fastened with fear, but i'm able to keep myself from stuttering.
before i can get to the alleyway entrance, i'm stopped by two more men grabbing my arms. their grip on me is strong, and one of them has their nails digging into my shoulder.
"relax, babydoll, we just want to talk." his voice is sickening.
"let go of me-" i grit my teeth.
the man holding my shoulder snatches my camera from my hand, looking at it with squinted eyes.
"you think they got pictures of us?" the other spoke.
"i didn't! i promise i just took some pictures of the-"
"shut up, don't speak again." my camera is thrown over my head to the man standing across from me. he looks straight into my eyes before dropping it onto the concrete, following by stomping his feet over it.
"my camera!" i call out, realizing i just spoke out of turn again.
the thugs tighten their grip on me as my camera is smooshed to pieces.
"what do we do with 'em?" they shake my body, i feel frail in their hands.
"you're gonna leave them the fuck alone, that's what."
my eyes focus behind the man in front of me. a tall build quickly making its way in my direction. in a swift motion, he grabs the man by the shoulder and throws him to the ground, his jaw smacks against the concrete.
he drags his face into the ground and pushes his foot against the man's cheek, causing his skin to bleed raw. i watch in awe as the men on either side of me let go.
"shit- that's a lot of blood, man!" one of them blubbers.
"let's get the fuck out of here-" the other agrees and they run off into the alley, ignoring the painful sobs from their third accomplice.
i'm frozen. my feet are glued to the ground and mysterion makes his way into my eyesight again. he had just saved my life.
"y/n?" his voice cracks.
i take a step back.
"how do you know who i am..?" i cough out.
his mystery persona seems to falter slightly as his eyes look deep into mine.
"i.. uh work with the police, and your dad. officer l/n."
"right.." my eyes are still wide as i look him up and down. "you really saved me.."
"well, yeah that's kind of what i'm here for." he smiles under his mask, it's so bright that i can still see it in the dark.
i look back over to my broken camera, the man still laying on the floor beside it, twitching slightly.
"ahem-" mysterion breaks our stillness. "i've gotta take this prick down to the station, so i can either walk you home real quick or you can come with me."
i look at my feet. if i go home then i'm alone again, which is usually my preferred option, but after what just happened i'm not so sure. but i don't want to go to the station, either.
"i think i'll just go home." i finally croak.
"you live close?"
"yeah." i look down the alley. "i can go myself."
"yeah. that's not happening." he chuckles slightly.
i look up at him through my lashes before turning to the alley to start walking. mystery man follows me down the street, the street lights softly illuminate the features he shows through his disguise.
we reach my house and i turn to look at mysterion. his lips are pink and plump, and he's got slight blonde facial hair. my eyes soften when we look at each other, my heart seeding up with affection.
"thank you." i look back down at my shoes.
"of course. you sure you don't need anything else?"
"i'm good. thank you again." i grab onto the door handle behind me.
i know my face is red when his smile pokes through his hood again. pushing the door open, i give him one last thank you before sliding back into the cold house.
my cereal is still on the counter. with a sigh, i lock the front door and head up to my room, inky following me.
the room is lit up with lights on my wall. my desk is unruly with sketches and photos everywhere. i unclip my bra and toss it off to the side, flopping down onto my large bed.
inky jumps up next to me and nestles his head next to mine, giving me a sense of security. my phone shows me the time is 12 am. which is usually when i'd be asleep.
i reach out for my nearest stuffed animal and hold onto it tight.
"night, inky." i smile and kiss the top of his head before my eyes close.
——————————————————-
i wake up to a small tapping on my window behind me. inky's head perks up with mine, the lights are creating a glare in the window so i can't see.
the tapping continues and i get up to investigate. the closer i get the more of mysterion's features make it through the windows beam.
i open the window quickly as he sits on my windowsill shivering.
"oh my god- what are you doing?" i step back, allowing him inside my room. my bra lays on the floor in between us and i frantically kick it under my bed.
"i grabbed this for you." he holds out his hand, a small black flash drive in his palm.
"is this from my camera?" i grab the drive, my mouth partly open.
he just nods with a smile.
"did you take any pictures?"
my chest starts pounding.
he wants to see my pictures.
"yeah- i have a lot on this drive, actually."
"i'd love to see them."
a smile takes over my features and i walk over to my desk, putting the flash drive into my open laptop. i sit in my desk chair and click through the pictures, mysterion hovers over me.
"these are really good.." he mumbles.
"thanks, it's pretty much the only thing i do."
"what about these- they're pretty cool too." he leans over to grab a paper that has a sketch of inky on it.
"..thanks." my face heats up again.
"woah!" he laughs and grabs another paper. "is this me?"
i look over to see him holding a sketch i did of him taking to the police chief.
"oh- uh yeah. i was just there and i figured i'd draw it. sorry, is that weird?"
"not at all." he looks at me. "it's so cool. i mean, i'm flattered." he returns a cocky smile that gives me butterflies.
how is he making me feel like this??
"would you... do it again?" i feel his breath on my neck.
"draw you?" i turn to face him, and i realize his eyes are blue. a light azure with a hint of hazel around his pupils.
"if it isn't too much trouble." he backs up as i stand. "but, i mean, i did save your ass an hour ago."
i grin and nod, pulling out my sketchbook from my bag.
"you're right about that."
i crawl onto my bed and put the book on my knees. mysterion takes the hint and tries to find a position to hold for me to draw.
he settles for sitting in my desk chair, his legs slightly spread and his head leaning on his propped up fist.
"paint me like one of your french girls, y/n." he says in a soft feminine voice.
i laugh and start to block out his body. his shoulders are broad and his torso is quite lean, he definitely has some abs going on underneath that suit..
what the fuck?
i scratch the thought from my head as i continue with his legs, which are long and stretched out. i don't bother drawing the chair, since all i want to focus on is him.
"it's done." i push the sketchbook forward to him.
he scoots the chair up to the end of my bed, eying the picture.
"you're so talented, y/n." he says with a smile. "could've made my bulge a little bigger." he points a finger toward the drawing.
he grins at me and i stifle a laugh. i haven't had this genuine of a conversation with someone in a long time, and although it's late, i don't ever want it to stop.
"could you do it again, but like this?" he does a dramatic heroic pose with his leg up on the chair.
i giggle before flipping to the next page in my sketchbook.

WORLD WRESTLING FEDERATION MAGAZINE : DECEMBER 1999
At The Crossroad
By Laura
Choices. Each one of us is faced with a myriad of choices in life. Some are of little consequence–like what pair of shoes to wear or which breakfast cereal to have; while others are life-altering–like who to marry or what career path to follow. One man forced with such a life-altering decision is X-Pac.
Over the past several months X-Pac has been at a crossroads–it is not two paths, however, but three that confront the “Bronco Buster.” He must decide to whom his loyalties belong and what direction his career should take. In order to do so, he must take a hard look inside himself and determine who he really is and what his true purpose in life is. Is he Kane’s ally–destined to be mentor to a powerful yet vulnerable friend? Or is X-Pac simply DX at heart–a rebel whose very essence is the pursuit of “coolness.” Or does X-Pac’s need to run with the big boys–perhaps to compensate for feelings of inadequacy–override all others?
Each path would fulfill an innate desire within X-Pac–one of status and reputation, one of intimacy and feeling needed and one of creativity and recklessness. The question is, Which desire is most compelling?
X-Pac found in DX an environment where he was able to cut loose and express his rebellious nature. There, X-Pac had the freedom to let it all out and to defy authority–all with the backing of other like-minded individuals.
DX was a tight-knit group. It was a family, and a very loyal one at that. Triple H, Billy Gunn, Chyna, Road Dogg and X-Pac all subscribed to the same set of values and beliefs–a “degenerate” lifestyle. X-Pac was able to carry that and live a rebellious existence–the ultimate cool.
Although DX as a group is no more, their essence certainly lives on. Will X-Pac choose the DX green glow? Will he return to the degenerate way of life and carry on that tradition of defiance of authority?
And then there is Kane. First paired up due to booking rather than affinity, the twosome proved to be one of the most intense tag teams in World Wrestling Federation history. This intensity went beyond the mat. True, Chyna once caught Kane’s attention; and Kane’s father, Paul Bearer, had psychologically tormented and controlled the “Big Red Machine.” But X-Pac was the first to truly touch Kane’s soul, to guide Kane to his own heart and give him the courage to realize his human potential, which was always there, buried deep inside. X-Pac and Kane… worked together like magic.
X-Pac was amazing with Kane–his fearlessness was astounding, especially as Kane had a reputation for being an unpredictable sociopath. And with Kane not only did X-Pac achieve great tag team status in the Federation, but he also discovered the genuine one-to-one friendship he had never experienced, even in DX.
It is no secret that X-Pac has always been self-conscious about his size disadvantage, and time and again he has tried to prove himself to be on the same page as the giants, such as the Undertaker. It wasn’t too long ago that X-Pac ordered Kane not to interfere in his match against Chris Jericho. Much to his chagrin, Kane did interfere and caused X-Pac much shame and humiliation. X-Pac wants to play in the major leagues–and with Undertaker and Big Show that need could be satisfied. However, if X-Pac chooses this path, he will be in league with more than he bargained for–he will be looking evil right in the eye.
Perhaps there is more here than meets the eye, however. It could very well be that X-Pac has a dark side unbeknownst to all and that only with Undertaker does he feel he can truly explore and fulfill his dark potential…
What about consequences? If X-Pac returned to the degenerate lifestyle, it would be a lonely existence at best. The other members have left the nest and created new identities for themselves. To return to the DX way might very well be the demise of X-Pac–very soon he’d be out of style.
If X-Pac decides to remain loyal to Kane, he will have a true friend for life and a good career in the Federation, although possibly a limited one. A strong friendship may not be enough for X-Pac. Because of Kane’s social maladjustment, X-Pac could be limited in his creativity and progress. He would also have the Undertaker continually out to destroy him.
If evil tempts X-Pac and he enters into a deal with the Undertaker and Big Show, he has lost Kane forever. He also tarnishes his reputation–he could very well be perceived as a sell-out. Most important, however, is that if X-Pac goes down the dark path of destruction, he may lose his soul…
Three choices, three completely different paths to take that will significantly and permanently after X-Pac’s career in the Federation, as well as his life and reputation. Whichever road he takes, and whether he goes back to DX or falls under the Undertaker’s influence, how will Kane react? What if X-Pac does not choose either path, but instead creates his own–one offering ties to all three choices–ultimately becoming his own man? With the new millennium fast approaching, the “Bronco Buster” may surprise us all and become a pioneer of the 21st century–a true man of the ‘00s.

pac for the headcanon ask game !
1. Trans man. No quastion
2. Pac DIYs his own T
3. He’s gay. But like it doesn’t get more descriptive than that. If you ask him what his sexuality is he’ll say he’s gay. It’s more complicated than that but he doesn’t elaborate on how
4. He’s sooo incredibly alloromantic it’s like kind of incredible
5. Can not cook to save his life. Has never touched a stove. He’ll say he’s cooking dinner and what he means is he’s putting milk in a bowl of cereal
6. He uses a wheelchair sometimes, especially around the Favela to give his leg a break
7. I just know this man has chronic fatigue
8. The bodysuit is played off as a joke but he actually finds it really gender affirming in a weird way. Like in a “people are still gendering me correctly even though I’m wearing something so skin tight and revealing” way
9. He likes coffee but in the sense that it’s so overloaded with sugar and cream you can’t even identify it as coffee anymore. He’s a frappe girlie
10. He redesigned his prosthetic leg to match Richarlyson’s

Tell us the trivia pleasee 🥺🥹
where do i start. ok well, assuming you're a fellow newsies fan, you probably already know how christian bale didn't know newsies would turn out to be a musical and he wasn't thrilled about it but eventually just said fuck it. and he learned that cool ass lasso whip which wasn't even used in the final version at all
uhh moving on. when winona ryder was casted as jo for the 1994 version of little women, she hand-picked christian bale to play laurie! and also somewhere during that time chris first met his wife sibi blazic. winona introduced them to one another because sibi was her assistant
and speaking of bale meeting his wife. before that he never imagined himself being married (everyone in his family was divorced and so he didn't really have any healthy examples of a marriage) but when he met sibi it's like. it all made sense and he wanted to marry her after all (which is cute as all hells)
and let's talk about sibi some more. she's a stunt driver! she was driving one of the cop cars in one of the batman movies (obviously dark knight trilogy) and bale was extremely impressed by that
and in general christian really loves sibi and it's so cute. whenever he talks about her during galas or interviews or when he's receiving prizes he almost tears up and calls her all those sweet things. and it's just. <3
when chris was picked to play patrick bateman in american psycho at one point he was replaced by leo dicaprio, but he stole the role back again. and like he was very very dedicated to playing bateman (e.g. he learned to sweat on command). and regarding pat bateman, bale disclosed that he likes nothing about the character and he thinks the "sigma" movement is lame
he also has a bunch of stray animals adopted. 2 dogs and 3 cats if i'm not mistaken
batman trilogy spotlight. he's the first non-american person to have played batman, the youngest person to have played batman, and the third person that played batman who has won an oscar!!!
and also bale's debut was actually a commercial of pac man cereal. he was 8
and i think i'll stop here because i could keep going on and on but. yeah.

a partial list of the increasingly difficult to find consumer products I like
Because I am apparently a man without a country who only likes niche items.
Tall kitchen white bags with FLAPS not drawstring. Ran into this today. Impetus for the list.
White vinegar in glass bottles (can still find at Wal-mart, “for now”)
Unfrosted strawberry Pop Tarts (some Hy-Vees have these)
Yogurt (incl Greek) made with whole milk
I used to get liquid Era detergent but then it became weirdly hard to find, and I eventually switched to laundry pacs/pods for cold and Tide powder for hot.
Gatorade G2. Where’d it go? I don’t want Gatorade Zero!
Raisin Nut Bran. It’s the most delicious cereal, and it’s so good there’s no store brand knockoff version. Why are they keeping it from people?
By the same token I’m still chasing the high of “Basic 4” cereal [edit - it was “Just Right” cereal!] that I loved when I was a kid. This one doesn’t count for the list bc it’s literally impossible to find as it is discontinued.
Not really the same but Fruit of the Loom changed the cut and fabric composition of my favorite underpants which really annoyed me
Oh! Duh! Diet caffiene free Pepsi or Coke. You used to be able to get 20oz bottles in bigger convenience stores but now I never see them :( Even some grocery stores don’t carry it! And rarely found on fountains anymore. Thankfully my local QT has CFDC.
Regular khakis for plus-size people
For balance, a discontinued product success story. Mom’s Best Cereals 86-ed their granola line, but my friend Hanna told me the parent company also made the Honey Bunches of Oats granola, and I tried that and it’s a pretty darn close dupe!

Exploring the Phenomenon of Pac-Man: A Journey Through Gaming History
Pac-Man, an emblematic yellow circle navigating through a maze filled with pellets and ghosts, has transcended the boundaries of the gaming world to become a cultural icon. This article embarks on a journey to unravel the phenomenon of Pacman, tracing its evolution from a simple arcade game to a global sensation that continues to captivate audiences across generations.
Origins: The Birth of an Icon
Toru Iwatani's Vision
Pac-Man emerged from the creative mind of Toru Iwatani, a visionary game designer at Namco. In 1980, Iwatani sought to create a game that would appeal to a broader audience beyond the typical demographic of young males prevalent in arcades at the time.
A Stroke of Genius
Inspired by the shape of a pizza with a missing slice, Iwatani conceptualized Pac-Man as a whimsical character tasked with navigating a maze while consuming pellets and avoiding colorful ghosts. The game's simple yet engaging premise laid the foundation for its eventual success.
Rise to Prominence: Pac-Man Fever Sweeps the Globe
Arcade Dominance
Pac-Man made its debut in arcades in 1980, captivating players with its charming visuals and addictive gameplay. The game's intuitive controls and vibrant characters resonated with audiences worldwide, propelling it to unprecedented levels of popularity.
Cultural Phenomenon
Pac-Man transcended its status as a mere video game, permeating popular culture in the 1980s. Merchandise featuring Pac-Man and his ghostly adversaries flooded the market, from t-shirts and toys to cartoons and breakfast cereals, cementing its place in the zeitgeist of the era.
Evolution: Adapting to Changing Times
Iterations and Innovations
The success of Pac-Man paved the way for a myriad of sequels and spin-offs, each offering unique gameplay experiences while staying true to the spirit of the original. Titles such as "Ms. Pac-Man" and "Pac-Man Championship Edition" introduced new mechanics and challenges, keeping the franchise fresh and relevant.
Expansion Across Platforms
Pac-Man's enduring popularity led to adaptations across various gaming platforms, including home consoles, handheld devices, and mobile phones. The game's accessibility ensured its continued relevance in an ever-expanding digital landscape, appealing to both seasoned gamers and casual players alike.
Legacy: Preserving the Iconic Heritage of Pac-Man
Enduring Symbolism
Pac-Man's iconic design—a yellow circle with a wedge missing—has become synonymous with retro gaming and nostalgia. The character's timeless appeal continues to resonate with audiences of all ages, serving as a symbol of joy and innocence in an ever-changing world.
Cultural Influence
Decades after its release, Pac-Man remains a cultural touchstone, inspiring artists, designers, and creators across various mediums. The character's influence extends beyond gaming, making cameo appearances in films, television shows, and even art installations, further solidifying its status as a global icon.
The Legacy of Pac-Man Lives On
Pac-Man's journey from a humble arcade game to a global phenomenon is a testament to its enduring appeal and cultural significance. As technology continues to evolve and new generations of gamers emerge, Pac-Man stands as a timeless reminder of the power of simplicity and the universal language of play. In a world filled with complexities, Pac-Man remains a beacon of joy and nostalgia, uniting people from all walks of life in the shared experience of gaming bliss.
