Dream Date was stronger in concept than it was in execution. I really liked the ideas that Sinclair Smith was playing with here. There were some genuinely creepy moments, and there was even an example of a good boyfriend. That’s a rare find in these books. Katie’s journey was relatable for me, and I could see that being the case for a lot of teenagers. I was once painfully shy myself. That being said, Katie was quite bland for the main character. I wish she had a hobby or something that she felt passionate about. Heath felt like he was based on an awful person that the author knew. He had more than a few moments where he made my skin crawl; reminded me at times of Killgrave in Jessica Jones at the best of them. I wish he had been a bit more dynamic, but he still worked well as a villain. I also really wanted the dream space to be more imaginative. It was a missed opportunity to get surreal, which could have given this book a sense of atmosphere. I’m also not the biggest fan of third-person narration with tons of italic first-person thoughts, but that could just be me. The ending worked aside from one minor contrivance I’ll save for below the jump. I didn’t love it, but it worked. Dream Date may have over-promised with its ideas and under-delivered with the details, but it was still an enjoyable read.
Score: 3

5/5*. ALEX SIGMORE. @alexsigmore, aka ERIC WARREN @ericwarrenauthor “That’s what we call the long, long game. ” Another winner! 5 Stars! Right from the beginning the atmosphere was frightening and the tension grew as the story went on. This book is brilliantly paced… and from the very first page, I found myself engrossed in the read!I had to remember to breathe, it was so gripping! UNPUTDOWNABLE!! I can't come up with enough superlatives to express how thoroughly?completely ?hugely?immensely? I enjoyed reading this novel. It's everything I could have wished for and much more. -His Perfect Crime #1 is taut, a slow-burning crime-thriller fiction. With compelling characters, cleverly written dialogue, and a riveting narrative that freezes your blood at times, Alex Sigmore has weaved murder, humor, personal relationships, and mystery, thriller, suspense and intrigue with masterful dexterity. It’s been a long time I was not reading crime stories, it too near to reality. But, Emily Slater series is fantastic! I just love the way Alex has created so much suspense and intrigue! And above all, I like it that it’s not the typical crime, detective/cop criminal, with gruesome details nor is it a psychological crime thriller. I can’t stand the tortures, both physical and mental (shudders). I’m marvelled at what Eric(Oops) Alex aka Eric Warren, a proficient and excellent SciFi author, has accomplished. He is El Maestro, as I always said from the beginning! His first dabs in this genre is magnificent! Can’t wait for The Collection Girls #2 release! I highly recommend this series. -ebook: Preorder. Launch: 16th of June. -Paberback: Launched today. https://www.instagram.com/p/Ceo7AumLntY/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

How do we buy one of your books?
Hi Anon!
My book is available as a paberback from Lulu’s print-on-demand service. Once an order is placed, the file is sent to the closest print partner (usually one within the purchaser’s country, AFAIK) and they’ll print and post the book to you.
It’s also available as an ebook from Kobo, Barnes and Noble, Apple iBooks and Smashwords. It’s not on Amazon/Kindle because I went with a competitor to make the ebook, but you can buy it in .mobi for Kindle at Smashwords, you’ll need a Smashwords account but they’re good at not being spammy!
Thank you for asking!

REVIEW
A Cowboy Like You by Donna Grant
Heart of Texas #4
The sheriff is lonely when the book begins and he is thinking about the girl in high school that he had a crush on but never put the moves on. Christmas is coming and he is tired, hungry and alone. Almost as if his thoughts have conjured her he sees the woman he has been thinking about attacked in the parking area he just happens to be parked in. Danny Oldman is definitely surprised and happy to see Skylar Long again and Skylar is equally happy to see Danny.
This small town second chance romance is action-packed and filled with people from previous books. Danny is a good man who deserves a good woman just as much as Skylar deserves a kind man that will treat her well. The two may have found just that in one another but there is the pesky problem of the abusive ex-boyfriend, Matt, who is a narcissistic obsessed bad guy that likes to hurt women.
I enjoyed returning to the group of people in this series and enjoyed reading how Danny and Skylar achieve their HEA even though I was a bit surprised at how quickly they fell into the relationship. The story is fast paced and easy to follow and I was invested in the two finding their way out of the troubles they found themselves in. At times I felt it was a bit predictable but all in all I enjoyed the story. I also imagine that with Ryan, Jace and a few more that are still not married this series will have more books I can look forward to reading. I kind of wonder if Ryan will stay on as the Chief or take up the Texas Rangers on the job offer.
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Paberbacks for the ARC – This is my honest review.
3-4 Stars
BLURB
In the Heart of Texas, a heartthrob cowboy may get his second chance at love… Danny Oldman, the handsome Lone Star sheriff, is still single. He tells himself, and anyone who asks, that he is married to his job―and what matters most is keeping the people of his beloved Texas hometown safe. The truth? Danny still hasn’t gotten over his high school crush. She moved away after graduation and took Danny’s heart with her. Skylar Long never thought she would have to flee Houston and return home―where it all began for her. But that’s what happened after the man of her dreams turned out to be an actual nightmare. Now, Skylar is desperate to escape her obsessive boyfriend. Nothing shocks her more than seeing Danny again and realizing that their long-ago attraction is more powerful than ever. But can she and Danny find a way to fight against Skylar’s wealthy, powerful ex who is dead set on tearing them apart?

Pull List (05/02/18) and FCBD (05/05/18)
Astonishing X-Men #11 Bombshells United #17 DC Nation #0 Deathstroke #31 Go Go Power Rangers #9 Red Sonja/Tarzan #1 Rise of the Black Panther #5 Rogue & Gambit #5 Avengers #1 (LGY #691) FCBD: Doctor Who (2018) FCBD: Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Crisis on Multiple Earths: The Team-Ups Vol. 1 Crisis on Multiple Earths: The Team-Ups Vol. 2 All Star Western Vol. 1: Guns and Gotham Trinity: Batman/Superman/Wonder Woman
Astonishing X-Men - That Land cover: woof. I like where this is going. Of course, with Land on art duties, I don’t think I’m going to continue with this comic. I like the team, but I like my art that works for me more. IDK. I think Proteus has been a better villain than the Shadow King in this series.
Bombshells United - Do what your cousin can’t do, Kate! Without the Joker in the foreground, I think the girls would’ve been a fine cover. But, the cover should be able to tell a story by itself.
DC Nation - Stop giving Wonder Woman a sword all the time! Also, I didn’t realize I was getting this comic until it was handed to me today. It’s cool; this comic is twenty-five cents! That’s a steal! Am I excited for some of the DC summer stuff? Yeah, but I am also more apprehensive.
Deathstroke - Knightmare? Because he’s the Dark Knight? I get it! Having a look at Batman through Deathstroke is something I don’t has been done a lot and realizing right now that can work wonders. You can do it, Priest!
Go Go Power Rangers - I would’ve liked if this series stayed out of the Shattered Grid event. What I want from this series is a look at the Mighty Morphin team pre-Tommy. It still is, but it still suffers from being a modern Power Rangers book.
Red Sonja/Tarzan - From the team that brought some excellent Red Sonja comics, both SImone and Geovani reunited to take on the She-Devil again. And, Tarzan is here too, I guess.
Rise of the Black Panther - I think this series benefits from being a monthly title in that it can continue the story, but also do its own things each issue. One issue can be facing Doom, then another can be facing Namor. It works.
Rogue & Gambit - Forgot this was the final issue. I think this series will be better off as a TPB, but I enjoyed it because it really gave a look at some of my favorite X-Men. I still think Gambit should join the Avengers at one point. I think Rogue is a great example of villain turned hero. Considering how long ago her turn was, it’s hard to remember or imagine that she was a villain with all the good she’s done since. I like that in superhero comics. I like that Marvel put out a miniseries that focused on two characters that have long history together. It worked for them. Good job to everyone on board.
Avengers - Hey, did you guys know there’s an Avengers movie that came out recently? This team feels classic. There is a feeling of longing or missing when I look at this team (PUT JANET AND HANK BACK ON THE MAIN TEAM YOU [MARVEL] COWARDS!) but I think this will be cool. Ghost Rider is a bit of a sore thumb, but I think Aaron can make it work. I do know some spoilers about this comic, but I don’t like that Jen still has her anger issues. Not that anger issue can just go away, but what she went through in her own book should not be ignored. More people should’ve read that book by the way. However, looking forward to seeing where this book goes. Also, I called Aaron getting the main Avengers books months ago.
FCBD: Doctor Who - There is still a part of me that likes Doctor Who. Also, there was nothing of real interest for me this year concerning Free Comic Book Day. I like me some crossovers
FCBD: Mighty Morphin Power Rangers - Kinda had to get this. I hate mandatory comics. But I love me some Power Rangers.
Crisis on Multiple Earths: The Team-Ups Vol. 1 - I like me some Golden Age and Silver Age superheroes interacting.
Crisis on Multiple Earths: The Team-Ups Vol. 2 - I like me some team-ups involving Golden Age and Silver Age superheroes.
All Star Western: Guns and Gotham - Confession time: I got this book and the one below at a used book store. I sold some old paberbacks today and used some of that money to get some books. I have been meaning to get this book for a while. One of the unsung good books from the New 52.
Trinity: Batman/Superman/Wonder Woman - The only Trinity book you and I need thank you very much.
Too many books, not enough time to read. This is my curse. It’s like I’m the guy from that Twilight Zone episode.
I hope yinz enjoyed FCBD today. I did! I had some other stuff today as well but everything is coming out Milhouse!
Happy readings!

2017 In Review: Lisa Marie's Ten Favorite Non-Fiction Books of 2017
2017 In Review: Lisa Marie’s Ten Favorite Non-Fiction Books of 2017
A word about Paperbacks From Hell, my favorite nonfiction book of 2017. One of my goals for 2018 (and probably 2019, as well) is to read every single book mentioned in Paberbacks From Hell. I’ve been told that it won’t be easy because several of the books are apparently no longer in print. But that’s okay. I’m looking forward to searching for them almost as much as I’m looking forward to…
