Spoilers for anyone interested in playing Persona 5 Strikers for themselves: Zenkichi has a daughter the same age as Ellie in the first game and in the TV show. Not to mention, even when instructed not to grow attached to the Phantom Thieves, he grows attached to them anyway and sees their perspective. So, at the very least, Zenkichi will grow attached to Ellie.

I think he could also be able to escort her to the hospital as he has his police training and ability to wield dual pistols to go off on even without his Persona. If he is allowed to use his Persona, he'd stand a better chance as he has a good mix of offensive and defensive skills as well as knowledge on how to use a longsword.

How would they have handled the Firefly hospital shootout:

I do in all honesty think that Zenkichi would do the same thing Joel did canonically, even when considering his background as a police investigator. Even before teaming up with the Phantom Thieves, Zenkichi would do anything to protect his daughter, including morally questionable behavior such as allowing his wife's killer to roam free or making a shady deal that could have resulted in Joker's arrest if broken. If he also saw Ellie as a daughter-like figure, which he would, then it's all over for the Fireflies.

Maaaan I can't stop thinking about how Zenkichi admitted that he was envious of the Thieves at first as it puts so many of his pre-character development moments into perspective upon replay.

On one hand: Bruh you were overcompensating with that cocky attitude

But on the other hand: He resented and was jealous of them not just b/c they were able do more than what he himself could ever feel brave enough to do (especially w/ Owada) but also Akane admired and looked up to them so they ended up reminding him of every one of his failures including being a role model for his own daughter, therefore he ended up projecting that attitude onto them at first.
