One thing I find really interesting about fics that have Hakoda and Zuko as a tag is that they almost always follow the sentence “Zuko sees Hakoda like he’s his dad” It always applies because depending on how you say it it means entirely different things. If you’ve read fics pertaining to these two you probably know what I mean but I’m gonna explain.

Option 1: Zuko sees Hakoda like he’s his dad as in Zuko has a terrible father so he assumes Hakoda is going to hurt him (and sometimes he does). Sometimes in these fics Zuko will try to protect Sokka and Katara from Hakoda whether it be talking them up so Hakoda won’t see them as failures or literally stepping between them when he thinks he’s going to hurt them (which he isn’t). This option has been present in a significant amount of Zukka fics I’ve read, often after boiling rock. Sometimes it starts out with a fearful relationship and then will transition into the second option.

Option 2: Zuko sees Hakoda as his dad. Dadkoda fics! Very wholesome, Hakoda somehow find Zuko and goes “that’s a child” and decides that the child deserves better than what he currently has. Sometimes you have slow burn adoption fics where you start out with option one (like Salvage by MuffinLance). Though given that it’s Zuko there tends to be at least a sprinkle of option one as he’s never going to trust a father figure right off the bat.

Now for me to shamelessly recommend fics. I already mentioned Salvage with its slow burn adoption

I admit I have a huge blind spot when it comes to poetry. Beyond what I had to read in school, I don't know that much, and all my favorites are the ones everyone already knows and loves (The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock, Ozymandius, Stopping By the Woods on a Snowy Evening).

I was just going through my poetry tag though, and I was remembering I went through an Ezra Pound phase a while back. I really like this one.

OK i wrote a fic abt wilbur ozymandius just before the festival last year . but i still think it is such a brilliant thing to compare with the dsmp. the poem itself is about nature and time/the grand scheme of things overcoming the power and achievements of man which seemingly wouldnt make sense in minecraft -- the rain doesnt wash things away, structures dont crumble. and yet ... the achievements of man in the dsmp are washed away again and again. think about schlatt: in his time a great dictator, promising an empire and a new beginning. now a drunk ghost who haunts an empty gym. wilbur, the figurehead of the revolution, runs a burger van. lmanberg, which was the centre of almost all conflict, is an overgrown crater. their importance has been diminished by time, now 'nothing beside remains, round the decay // of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare' -- all that lives on their ruins. nobody lives forever. everyone keeps moving. so many places and stories are forgotten, left behind. 'the lone and level sands stretch far away'
