Today I climbed my Everest. For as long as I can remember I have hated my body. I’ve always felt too big, too lumpy or bumpy, like I take up too much space in the world. No matter what my weight was I was always too much. Because of that I’ve always had a hard time showing my body, even on the hottest days in summer I’d hide my frame with a baggy sweater and long pants. Swimming was a nightmare and on the rare occasion that I did go swimming I’d wear a tank top and shorts. Since I’ve started working out my body confidence has increased substantially but the one hurdle I continued to struggle with was building the confidence to do yoga in just a sports bra. Today during a particularly difficult class I finally decided to do it! And while it might not seem like a big deal to some people, showing my body, scars and all, was one of the most freeing things I have ever done. This is my body. It’s imperfect, it has scars, stretch marks, and maybe a little extra tub but it’s all I have to offer the world and no one is going to tell me it’s not good enough.
