I've said it on Twitter but no one follows me there so I'll scream in the void here as well ✨

If you are a Dimension 20 Burrow's End TM enjoyer and particularly if you love Jasper's performance as Thorn (and honestly, who wouldn't), do me a favour and go listen to Three Black Halflings, the ttrpg podcast hosted by Jasper along with Jeremy Cobb and Olivia Kennedy (but you can call her Liv!). Just trust me on this one, I need more people to get into 3BH immediately, they are amazing!

Their episodes are very varied, with one of the main focus being diversity in d&d/ttrpgs on all fronts. They are some of the most fun, insightful and creative people in this space! They have important, deep conversations with many incredibly talented folks, with an attention to inclusion of a diverse array of creators from minorities and marginalized backgrounds. They have multiple awesome campaigns that will make you cry and laugh at once (and you'll get more of Jasper's incredible roleplay, along with so many talented guests (Emily included, she's a guest for a few episodes on Outlaw and Obelisks, their post-apocalyptic western inspired campaign)). They try out different systems and new ttrpgs, but also discuss d&d with class dives and news episodes.

They have interviews with many people: to mention a few from d20 we're talking Bennan, Lou, Murph, Emily, Zac, Ify, Carlos, Gabe, Erika, Persephone, B.Dave, Krystina, Amy, Matt and Aabria at various times, but also people from the rest of Naddpod, Transplanar RPG, Oxventure, Dicebreaker and other cool spaces!

Not strictly related, but Jasper was also the first (and only, I think?) guest DM on Naddpod, I think his Potcedonia two-shot is some of the most fun content out there!

Actually fuck this shit. The AI service I'm talking about is Mythweaver. I've been doing some further digging on their website.

They're claiming they're using "Ethical AI" when it comes to generating art, with all artists that are having their art as part of the training data getting paid royalties. They even have a list of artists who are already part of it, except wait a minute, none of the artists profiles have any links to their socials or a portfolio, which is pretty rude not to include for those artists. And then googling the listed artists names, if they have art online it looks unlike any of the art Mythweaver is using for promo, or they don't seem to exist.

Also there doesn't seem to be any information on how much an artist would receive in royalties if they were part of this "ethical" program.

The back story writing features seems to generate a sentence or two for Fears, Quirks, Looks, Hobbies, Background and Personality, and if you rename your character, you'll have to manually change it yourself in any of the generated text too. It's not exactly the "rich" back story tool they're advertising.

Speaking of false advertising, on their home page they're stating they have 10,000+ users, which is weird because they have 203 subscribers on their YouTube channel, just over 1000 views on one of their videos. They had a successful Kickstarter but the backers on that don't look to be much more than 1000. And there's almost no online presence for this app, so it looks like they're fudging the numbers.

It's a subscription model, and they've got basic and pro prices, although the lists for what you get at both tiers both include a handful of "soon" features.

I wouldn't pay $150 a year (basic is $50) when there's more unreleased features than released ones.

This website screams scam to me, but if it's not a scam, they just seem deeply incompetent.

Don't let shitty AI companies sell you shit you don't need by negging you into thinking you can't come up with a character back story without the help of their shitty app. Don't let them convince you that your friends would prefer a campaign generated by a thieving large language model (because there's all the talk of "ethical AI" in the image generation but where's the royalties for the writers you're ripping off?) than something you've crafted with care from your own imagination.

Mythweaver misses the complete point of TTRPGs, that they are fun creative time with your friends. If the work of coming up with NPCs or story arcs is hard, it's worth it seeing your friends enjoying the world you've built and the characters you share.

Fuck AI grifters.

Just saw an ad for an AI service for TTRPG players that offers to create unique characters for you, including "ethical AI" generated images. Snooping their website, it looks like they want to generate stuff on the game master's side too. I know some people use modules as a starting point for their games, but it seems pretty ridiculous to me that they're trying to sell this service to people. "Isn't it so hard being creative, let us be creative for you" being creative is part of the fun. All TTRPGs are is having fun creative storytelling time with your friends.

Also one of the features provided in their subscription model is recording your sessions, it's just to make notes... they wouldn't sell your data... Your players will be super comfortable with you recording them...
