All these ideas around what sort of job Oliver had post-Oxford, while he waited around for a second opportunity to return to Saltburn, and meanwhile I remain convinced that Oliver: a) did not even return to Oxford, and b) never got any job.
It's unclear how long Oliver stayed at Saltburn "for Elspeth" after Felix and Venetia died, but we do know that Felix claims the summer is almost over when he's telling Oliver that he should leave after the birthday party. Additionally, Oliver seems to agree with Sir James's assessment when he's asked if he doesn't plan to leave Saltburn at all, even though he would have to leave eventually, if he were planning to finish at Oxford. We don't ever learn just how much Sir James paid Oliver to leave Saltburn, either, but the guy was easily wealthy enough to part with more than most people make in a lifetime and barely notice the difference.
Thus my headcanon that Oliver already had no intention of finishing at Oxford once Elspeth gave him reason to believe that he could stay at Saltburn (at Felix's home, where Felix was buried, while Felix would never walk the halls of Oxford again), and then asked for enough money from Sir James when it was made clear that actually he was going to leave Saltburn, one way or another, to set himself up comfortably for however long it took him to get back to Saltburn.
That way he didn't have to go back to Oxford (and the lack of Felix that would have hung over the place like a physical weight), and he could just quietly chill out and make zero other connections to the world and other people that might have interfered with him returning to Saltburn eventually. No job to quit, no friends or coworkers to explain himself to, just a life set in stasis, a ghost waiting till the day he could return to his dead love's home and haunt Saltburn's hallways beside all that he had left of him.

Night was beginning to fall. She'd circled back to the Cornucopia in hopes of finding another way in that didn't involve the roller coaster, though she was quickly beginning to resign herself to likely needing to figure out making it go again.
After circling the building several times, she ascended the queue, reaching a sort of loading dock where the same carts from earlier in the afternoon sat in wait. She eyed them cautiously, then walked over to what looked like an operating booth, prodding at buttons at random, to no avail.
She was starting to try combinations when something moved in the corner of her eye. She tensed, prepared to fight, but it didn't last-- Oxford stalked up the line, looking tired, but perfectly fine. After what he'd done to the girl from Ten, she wasn't sure she'd be capable of relief at seeing him, and yet...
"Oh thank God," she sighed, emerging from the booth. "I thought I was going to have to take another ride in there to get back to you."

In honor of spooky season my beloved autumn throwback to that time when I was in Oxford (study abroad/exchange thing) and woke up one morning to a raven sitting on my windowsill looking out on the pretty much castle grounds (bc I was living on campus), then later that night I went to go see Hamlet with the homies and then walking back it was a full moon and I took this picture. Fully thought I was about to be pulled into some crazy fantasy adventure that day and frankly miffed I was not
Oxford my beloved. My heaven. Every day we are apart I waste away thinking of you. Would that we one day may be reunited (and you too Scotland my love, light of my life. It is a polyamorous relationship lmao)

I like to tell Americans that I studied at Oxford. Makes me sound smart even though it was a free art and design BTEC when I was 16 in the cinderblock community college

The opulent Asthall Manor hosts a sculpture exhibition each summer, for just over a month, where you can enjoy the magnificent gardens. The manor was built in around 1620, and altered/enlarged in 1916. It has since been made grade II listed. 🧚‍♀️🍃 Asthall, Oxfordshire, England, United Kingdom ~ James Lloyd Cole
