I think stressing about stress is a really violent cycle and I try to take any social media wellness stuff about cortisol and healthy lifestyle coaching with a grain of salt not because I think it's not true that stuff like scrolling on social media or not stretching enough causes health issues overall but because I think healthy habits don't usually come from fear or shame
Like even if maybe fear or shame instigate the awareness of like oh I need to change - in terms of what causes long term lasting change has to be rooted in something tender and strong to the core not just guilt and anxiety ridden about doing things "wrong"
And I feel really reflective about it right now because I can't sleep and my mind races towards "this is my fault because I over stimulate myself before bed with playing games and being online" and then I see how quickly that all snowballs into "and my hormones are totally fucked cause I've been drinking caffeine BEFORE eating a healthy breakfast AND my meals aren't perfectly spaced etc etc" and I know that rhythm so well now that I feel like the least I can do is recognize it and remember it has never helped me in staying consistent to beat myself up
I am not living life to be perfect - I am not even trying to improve all the time. There is a lot of time where I am not making some huge inspired jump in my goodness and productivity... most often I am just living in general and that's lucky and special and beautiful even though it doesn't feel remarkable to do or talk about
Self improvement can become such a bottomless pit if it's not tender and patient
Like most things

A THOUSAND MILES SEEMS PRETTY FAR | Quinn Hughes x Reader
SUMMARY: But they have planes and trains and cars. He'd walk to you if he had no other way. aka long distance with quinn.
Word Count: 1k Warnings: none :D pure fluff. no angst, just love. ♫ Listen: Hey There Delilah by Plain White T's ♫
You and Quinn are on your bi-weekly phonecall, catching up on each other’s lives in the strange new reality of being miles apart. He talks about training and games, his neighbors and their quirky antics, the dishes he's trying to cook, and the restaurants he’s found nearby for when his cooking doesn't go as planned. There’s a lightheartedness in his voice as he tells you about getting recognized by fans, but you can hear the fatigue too, the weight of adjusting to a life where so much feels new and foreign.
“Tell me what it’s like over there,” he says, voice warm and familiar.
“Oh, honey,” you say with a laugh, “It’s been a wild few days.”
You update him on all the latest drama from home, from your mutual friends’ lives to the ridiculous gossip circulating on campus. You tell him about your classes, the endless cramming, and how you’re running on caffeine and pure determination. You mention the phone call you had with his mom, how she keeps you updated on his little brothers, Jack and Luke, and their texts to you asking for advice on how to hide things from their parents.
Quinn chuckles sleepily, clearly entertained by their schemes. He’s already in bed, his face framed by the soft glow of his bedside lamp, while you’re still at your desk, laptop open, notes scattered around you. It’s late for both of you, and you know you’ll both pay for it with early alarms and sleepy eyes tomorrow, but the call feels worth it, like a lifeline between you. It was hard, you’ll admit, with him being in Vancouver and you still in Michigan, but it was better than not having him at all.
“God, you look beautiful,” he murmurs, his voice thick with sleep. “Your lamp gives you this warm glow—you look like an angel.”
You laugh. “That’s probably just the homesickness talking. You’re either really sleepy or you just miss me. Or both.”
He stifles a yawn, smiling. “I always miss you,” he says, softer this time, the usual joking edge gone. “I never want to be apart from you.”
“Hey.” You lean closer, resting your chin in your hand as if it’ll somehow bring you closer to him. “Just two more years, Quinny. Then I’ll be right there with you.”
He’s silent for a moment, a question hanging in the space between you. Finally, he asks, “Do you wish I hadn’t left?”
You smile, reaching out to the screen as if you could brush his hair back. “I would never do that to you. This is your dream—you’ve wanted this as long as I’ve known you.”
He shifts in bed, tucking himself deeper into the pillows, watching you with that gaze that always made you feel seen, like you were the only one who mattered. The soft sound of your typing fills the quiet, and he’s content to just watch you, taking in the tiny changes in your expression as you work. In moments like this, he wishes he could teleport, even if just for an hour, just to see you, just to touch you. Being drafted to the NHL is everything he’s worked for, and he’d never give it up, but there’s still a quiet ache whenever he remembers you’re not there.
It isn’t the first time he’s asked if you wanted him to stay, and each time you tell him the same thing. You’d never ask that of him, wouldn’t dream of it. And every time, hearing you say those words—knowing you believe them—it reminds him just how much he loves you. It might be the most romantic thing anyone’s ever done for him.
“People say we’re crazy for trying to make this work,” he says, his voice softening. “But I don’t think we are. Is that weird?”
You smile, looking at him through the screen, your eyes full of warmth. “Not weird at all, bub. I feel the same way. They can joke all they want, but we know this is real.”
His gaze softens further, your reassurance the steady anchor he didn’t realize he needed. The corners of his mouth tug into a smile, one that’s vulnerable and hopeful all at once.
“I love you,” he murmurs, his words barely more than a whisper, but somehow carrying a lifetime’s worth of promises. “I promise, when you get here, I’ll take care of you. I’ll give you everything you ever wanted.” Even thick with sleep, his eyes hold a fierce certainty, one that leaves no room for doubt. Maybe it was strange to some, betting so much on a relationship that started in university, but he knows, as surely as he’s known anything, that you’re it for him. He can already see it all so clearly—planning a wedding, finding a home, starting a life together. This is it.
“You already take care of me, Quinny,” you say, the affection in your voice unmistakable. “You’re all I need.”
He chuckles, his exhaustion creeping in with a long yawn. “Flatterer,” he teases, even as his eyes droop a little, his smile growing softer with every passing second.
“Might be time to call it a night,” you say gently, tucking your notebooks away and placing your pens back in their case. “Don’t miss me too much, yeah?”
His smile grows sleepy. “Almost summer,” he mumbles, words slow and relaxed. “I’ll have you all to myself then.” There’s a long pause, one filled with unspoken dreams. “I love you,” he finally says, voice laced with sincerity, each word as warm as a goodnight kiss.
“I love you too,” you reply, feeling the words settle in your heart, grounding you. “Goodnight, Quinn. Sweet dreams.”
“Goodnight.” His voice is soft, eyes fluttering as he murmurs, “I’ll dream of you.”
You smile, your voice tender. “And I’ll dream of you. Let’s meet up again there, alright?”
A sleepy grin spreads across his face, a warmth in his gaze that transcends the screen. “Yeah,” he whispers, his voice filled with a quiet certainty, “Let’s do that.”
You both linger for a moment, unwilling to end the call, sharing a silence so comfortable it feels like being wrapped in each other’s arms. His eyes are on you, tired but happy, and yours on him, both of you letting that last connection sink in before sleep pulls you both under.
“See you soon,” you say softly, a quiet promise in your voice.
“See you in dreams, love.”

THE OTHER SIDE OF PARADISE - rafe cameron (+18) - seven (finale)
request: "a rafe enemies to lovers 🫣 the reader is jjs sister the whole drama before but then she gets left behind on the ship and rafe ends up comforting her and then yea that’s all I got you can do whatever else the rest 😛" + "def some little smut during the enemies part and a long story"
word count: 6.3k
warnings: last chapter <3
You’ve been to Kildare County Sheriff’s Department way more times than you care to admit
Being the oldest kid in your family—and somehow the only actual adult—you lost count of how many times you had to drag your dad out of jail between the ages of sixteen and twenty. It felt like a full-time job.
Then there were the countless times you’d been there for your friends.
JJ, for instance, had been taken in more than once for public disturbances. It was almost a given that he'd end up in that shithole whenever there was a party or some kind of trouble brewing. You knew every officer by name, and they knew you too. Some gave you that look—you know, the one that said, “Oh, sweetie, you again?”—while others just shook their heads, probably wondering when you would finally stop playing caretaker and start looking out for yourself.
But you always showed up, no matter what, because that’s what you did. You took care of your own.
The first time you had to pick up your dad, you were sixteen. Brand new driver’s license, barely knew how to parallel park, and boom, you’re getting woken up at like 2 a.m. because your dad’s been arrested. You were shaking the whole time, gripping the steering wheel like your life depended on it, eyes blurry with tears. It wasn’t the first time you’d seen him wasted or bruised up, but this time felt different. This time, it hit you that this was gonna be your life now.
You were stuck.
You remember pulling up to the station, parking all kinds of crooked because your hands wouldn’t stop trembling. You ran inside, still half-asleep, and the officer at the desk gave you this sad little smile. “He’s in the back,” he said, like you didn’t already know.
When you saw your dad slumped over, bruised, and barely awake, something inside you just... cracked. He looked up, and for a second, he recognized you. “Hey, kiddo,” he mumbled, still drunk, still out of it. Back then, there was still some part of him left, some shred of the man he used to be.
You signed the papers, helped him stumble to the car, and drove home in silence while he passed out in the passenger seat. It was the first of so many nights like that. And you knew it wasn’t gonna be the last. When you finally pulled into the driveway, you helped him inside and onto the couch. He mumbled a thank you before passing out, his snores filling the room.
Now, sitting in the small, stuffy waiting room of the sheriff’s department, you glance around, feeling a knot of tension tightening in your stomach, the fluorescent lights doing little to help, making everything appear sterile and unforgiving.
You wish you could be anywhere but here.
JJ’s next to you, his leg bouncing like he’s got caffeine running through his veins instead of blood. You’re already annoyed, and it doesn’t help that Rafe is sitting on your other side, looking just as pissed off.
“Will you stop bouncing your leg JJ?” You grit out, already irritated from waiting longer than an hour.
“Why the fuck did he have to come?” JJ mutters, throwing daggers at Rafe with his eyes.
“JJ, not now.” You put your hand on his arm, trying to keep him from starting something. The last thing you need is another fight.
JJ glares, but his jaw clenches shut. “This is so messed up,” he grumbles.
“Messed up is leaving your sister alone with your drunk piece of shit father.”
“Like I knew he was there, you dumbass?” JJ shoots back, his voice dripping with sarcasm.
“Maybe stop leaving her alone.”
“Oh, here we go,” you mutter, feeling the tension rise again. The last thing you need right now is for these two to start another fight.
Ever since JJ came back to the mainland only to pick you up from Taneyhill, things had been…tense. It was one thing to talk about you and Rafe, it was a completely different thing to see you together.
You know your brother hates every second of it.
“Oh, but you wanna talk about drunk pieces of shit? How many times did your daddy bail you out?”
Rafe’s eyes narrow, his fists clenching, “How many times did you make your sister bail you out, huh?”
"You wanna talk about sisters too?"
You shut your eyes, attempting to ignore the way they’re clawing each other’s throats out with tainted insults. It was a miracle they're standing in the same room without killing each other, but you can only take so much. It’s like they’re about to throw punches, right there in the middle of the sheriff’s office.
"Shut the fuck up Maybank."
“Fuck you, Cameron!” JJ snaps, standing up so fast his chair skids backward, “You think you’re better than us?”
Rafe stands up too, stepping closer to JJ, “Better than you? Yes.”
“Don’t act like you’re doing this for her,” JJ scoffs. “You’ve never helped anyone but yourself, you manipulative asshole.”
“That’s enough,” you snap, standing up and stepping between them, pushing them apart. Your voice is shaking with frustration. “You two are going to shut the fuck up or take this shit outside. It’s nine in the morning. I didn’t get a wink of sleep, and I’m not gonna sit here and hear you two bitch it you.”
JJ glares at Rafe over your shoulder. “We don’t need this asshole’s help. We can handle it ourselves.”
Rafe sneers. “Handle it? Like you’ve handled everything else?”
Your brother lunges forward, but you push him back, your voice shaking. “Sit your ass down or leave, I’m not going to repeat myself.”
They both just stare at you, their harsh words still hanging in the air of this stuffy room. The tension is almost suffocating, but there's no way you’re letting them keep tearing each other apart. You’re exhausted, emotionally and physically drained. The last thing you need right now is to play mediator between them… again.
Rafe finally sits down, arms crossed, biting his tongue—for your sake, you know. JJ’s sitting too now, still fidgeting like he always does, tapping his fingers against the armrest.
"Look," you say, your voice still firm, "We're here for a reason. Let's just get through this and get out, okay?"
Your brother just grunts, glaring at the wall like it’s personally offended him. Rafe lets out a sigh and gives you the tiniest nod, like a reluctant “fine.” You sit back down, feeling a bit of the weight in your chest ease up. Rafe leans in and gently takes your hand, mouthing, "I’m sorry." You give it a little squeeze—apology accepted, for now.
JJ notices but looks away too quickly for you to read him. You know he’s pissed, but at least for the moment, he’s staying quiet.
The minutes crawl by, each one feeling like forever, and finally, a cop shows up at the door, calling your name. The three of you stand up at the same time, and Rafe and JJ follow behind you, silent but close, as you walk down the hallway.
The clanging of barred doors shutting behind you makes your stomach twist, and you eventually end up in a small interrogation room. The officer gestures to a chair, "Take a seat." He heads off to get paperwork, and you glance at Rafe, who’s watching you like he’s afraid you might disappear. You know he won’t relax until your dad is completely out of the picture.
Your brother, on the other hand, leans against the wall with crossed arms, a brooding expression on his face. He's always been protective, even if his way of showing it often led to clashes with others. You wish things could be different.
Officer Malcom comes back with a stack of papers, but before you can even look at them, Rafe’s lawyer, Mr. Johnson, walks in. Rafe's had him on speed dial since the whole mess started, and honestly, he's been a lifesaver. He sits beside you, reviewing the papers calmly, and just having him there makes everything feel a little less scary.
“Alright, folks, let's go through this step by step. The first form here is the petition for a temporary restraining order. It outlines the incidents and reasons for seeking protection.”
“Are these incidents documented with the sherrif’s office?” Mr. Johnson's expertise is evident in the way he examines the document meticulously.
“Yes, sir. We have reports dating back to—" Officer Malcom stops for a second, checking the data, “About eight years ago, give or take.”
Rafe’s head snaps in your direction, brows furrowed, clearly pissed off that this has been going on for that long without anyone doing anything. You try to ignore it, focusing on the papers in front of you instead.
“What happens after I file this?
“Once filed, a judge will review the petition. If approved, a temporary restraining order will be issued, usually effective immediately. Then, there'll be a hearing within a few weeks to determine if a permanent order is necessary.”
“What if he doesn't abide by the temporary order?”
The officer only nods sympathetically. “Violating a restraining order is a criminal offense. He could face fines, jail time, or both.”
Rafe’s still looking at you, “Does she have to serve him personally with these papers?”
“It’s crucial that he’s officially notified. We handle that part, though.”
Rafe’s lawyer is taking notes when he speaks up again, “If he contests the order, he’ll have the opportunity to present his side at the hearing. Both parties can bring witnesses or evidence. But based on your father’s behavior, that’s unlikely.”
You hope to God he doesn’t. The thought of seeing him again makes you feel like you might throw up. You take a deep breath, hands itching to twirl a piece of your hair.
“How long does the process usually take?”
You feel a hand touch your shoulder, gently tightening the grip around the skin, you don’t have to look back to know it’s Rafe. By now you know the lines and the ridges of his hands as if they are your own.
"The timeline can vary, but typically, from filing to the hearing, it might take a few weeks. It depends on the court's schedule and any potential delays."
You nod, absorbing the information while trying to steady your breathing. None of this feels real. Not the legal stuff, not the fact that this could actually be over soon. As the conversation continues, Mr. Johnson outlines the next steps clearly, discussing what will happen during and after the hearing.
The officer quickly gathers the papers in his hands, “I’ll get everything started then. Just a moment.”
As he leaves to process the paperwork, a brief silence settles over the room. You exchange glances with JJ and Rafe, both of them entirely too interested of the concrete floor.
“This is the right thing to do, right?”
You know it is. You’ve known for years, but it’s still hard to understand how it came to this. Your life could’ve been so different.
JJ nods, fiddling with his shark tooth necklace, the one you’d given him when he was seven. “Yeah. He shouldn’t be able to just...” He trails off shaking his head.
Rafe squeezes your shoulder once more, then lowers himself to your level and plants a quick peck on your temple, “You’ve got this. It’ll be okay.”
Mr. Johnson finally puts his pen away, turning to you, “I’ll stay on top of the filings and keep you updated on any developments.”
This moment is a culmination of years of struggle. It's daunting, but you’re not alone.
"Thank you.”
JJ shifts his weight, his agitation visible. "I hate this," he mutters.
"I know," you reply, not knowing what else to say.
The door swings open again, and Officer Malcom re-enters, holding a stack of papers. "Alright," he says, handing you a pen. "Just sign here, and we'll get this process started."
You take the pen with shaky hands, knowing there’s no going back after this. As you sign your name, you can't help but sigh in relief.
This is a step towards freedom.
Rafe watches you intently, his eyes full of concern. He reaches out, placing a hand on your back, a little reminder that he's here for you. JJ stands close by, his protective instincts on high alert.
After you finish signing, Officer Malcom takes the papers and gives you a reassuring nod. "We'll take care of the rest. You should hear from us soon about the next steps."
You stand up, feeling a little lighter, but the emotional toll of the day still kicks your ass. As you make your way out of the room, Rafe keeps a steady hand on your back, guiding you.
Once outside, the morning sun feels almost blinding after the harsh fluorescent lights of the station. JJ immediately lights a cigarette, taking a long drag and exhaling with a sigh.
Rafe looks at you, his expression softening. "You're good?"
You nod, managing a small smile. "Yeah, I think so. Thank you for being here, both of you."
JJ smirks, though there's a hint of sadness in his eyes. "Where else would I be?”
You glance at the two men beside you, each representing a different part of your world. Your brother stubs out his cigarette, glancing over at Rafe with an exaggerated sigh. He smirks, but it doesn't reach his eyes.
“Gotta admit, I never thought I'd see the day when 'Rafe the Retch' would be helping us out.”
A laugh escapes your lips before you can stop it, but you quickly cover it up, turning it into a cough. You’d forgotten about that one.
Rafe’s eyebrows shoot up. “'Rafe the Retch'? Seriously, what the fuck?”
“Ask her,” JJ nods in your direction.
“You called me that shit?”
You bite your lip, “To be fair, I called you worse things.”
Rfe tilts his head, hands on his hips, “Like what?”
“You don’t want to know.”
The three of you start walking toward the parking lot, as you reach the cars, JJ pulls you into a quick, tight hug. “We’re gonna get through this,” he murmurs, his voice filled with determination.
You hug him back, “I know, Jay.”
Rafe stands a few feet away, watching the exchange with a thoughtful expression. When your brother finally lets you go, he steps closer, “Ready to go?”
JJ looks at you, the concern in his eyes clear. "I gotta head to work. Do you want a ride home? It's on the way.”
You glance at Rafe, then back at JJ, sensing his reluctance. “No but thank you.”
JJ’s shoulders tense, but he nods, trying to hide his disappointment. "Alright. Just... call me if you need anything, okay?"
You smile, appreciating his concern. "I will. Drive safe."
He nods again, glancing one more time at Rafe before getting into his truck and driving off. You watch him go, knowing that things are still far from being okay between the two of you.
You know he’s never going to change his opinion about Rafe, maybe not until he witnesses the changes in him, but you hope that one day they’ll find some common ground. It’s a lot to ask from your brother, you know that, and it’s why you never push him.
“You sure you’re doing okay?”
You nod, leaning into Rafe now that he stands behind you, “Yeah, just a little tired.”
He wraps an arm around your shoulders, guiding you towards his car, “Did you get any sleep last night?”
"Barely," you admit. "Just couldn't stop thinking about today.”
He unlocks the car, opening the passenger door for you. "Well, now that it's done, you can rest. I’ll even put that bullshit show you like.”
You gasp ready to punch him in the shoulder, but by the time you turn he’s already on the other side of the car, “Love Island is not a stupid show!”
He chuckles as he starts the engine. "If you say so.”
“You watch it too.”
“Only because you force me to,” Rafe counters, a playful glint in his eyes.
It’s been a month since the nightmare with your dad, and you’ve pretty much been living at Rafe’s new place ever since. Sure, you’ve got your own house, but it just doesn’t feel like home anymore. Rafe’s apartment though? It’s like your little safe haven now. You don’t officially live there, but who are you kidding? Most of your stuff is in his drawers, he’s stocked the bathroom with all your skincare, hair stuff, even a toothbrush. He tried to go all-out, buying you everything, and you kept telling him to stop, but it’s like talking to a wall. You gave up eventually.
As he pulls out of the parking lot, his hand slides over to grab yours. It’s such a simple thing, but it makes the tight feeling in your chest ease a little. You’re both quiet for most of the drive, but it’s not awkward or anything. It’s actually kind of nice. You never imagined he’d be so...attached. Things between you are still...somewhat undefined, but it definitely feels like a relationship. That thought is pushed to the back of your mind for now. It's just not the right moment to talk about it—not with his father’s trial only weeks away and your own dad still recovering in the hospital.
When you pull up to his apartment, the building feels familiar in a way that makes your stomach flip. He hops out of the car and, as usual, rushes around to open your door for you. It’s such a small thing, but it always makes your heart race.
Once inside, the place feels so different from the craziness of the day. It’s cozy, warm, and just... safe. You kick off your shoes and flop onto the couch, sinking into the cushions.
“Wanna watch your show?” Rafe asks, giving you that half-smile you’ve come to love.
You chuckle, feeling lighter than you have all day. “And you say you don’t love it.”
He grabs the remote and turns on the TV, navigating to the show. As the familiar theme song starts playing, you snuggle closer to him, finding comfort in the routine. It's all trashy drama and ridiculous contestants, but it’s the distraction you desperately need. Rafe’s arm stays around you, like always. But as the episode progresses, your eyelids grow heavy. The events of the day, combined with the sleepless night, catch up to you. You feel yourself drifting off, your head resting against Rafe’s chest, his heartbeat a steady rhythm lulling you to sleep.
“Rest, baby,” he murmurs, his voice a soothing whisper. “I’ve got you.”
Next thing you know, you wake up to the smell of something cooking. Blinking your eyes open, you realize Rafe’s in the kitchen, and the living room is dimly lit. A blanket slips off your shoulders as you sit up, and when you look over, he’s already smiling at you.
You’ve seen him smile more times over the past month than all the years you had “known” him combined. It looks good on him, makes him look younger.
Stretching, you ask, “What’s all this?”
“Dinner. Figured you could use a good meal,” he says casually, like it’s no big deal that he’s cooked for you.
You sneak up behind him and wrap your arms around his waist. “Look at you, Chef Rafe.”
Ever since he moved in on his own, he’s been slowly learning how to take care of himself. You’ve caught him watching cooking and deep cleaning videos more times you can count. You find it endearing. It makes your chest ache, in a good way, to watch him slowly turn into his own person, not the Rafe his father shaped him to be.
He chuckles, giving you a quick forehead kiss. “Eat before it gets cold.”
You sit down, and the first bite has you practically moaning. He snorts at your reaction, but you can tell he’s proud of himself. As you eat, though, you notice he seems a little off. His shoulders are tight, and there’s something in his eyes that makes you pause. You reach across the table, placing your hand over his.
"What is it?”
“Nothing.”
“Rafe. What’s wrong?”
He hesitates, then sighs. “Got a call from my lawyer. About Ward.”
The mention of his dad sends a chill down your spine. “What about him?”
Rafe’s thumb brushes your knuckles as he looks down. “He wants to talk.”
“Do you want to talk to him?”
Rafe's jaw tightens, and he lets out a slow breath. “Yeah. But every time I’ve tried to stand up to him, it’s backfired."
You squeeze his hand, “He can’t hurt you anymore, you know that, right? You're not the same person you were before," you remind him gently. "You've grown so much, Rafe. You’ve made your own life."
He looks up at you, his gaze softening. The intensity in his eyes is clear—vulnerability, determination, and a deep-seated fear. It's as if he’s silently pleading for your reassurance, for the strength to face his demons.
“You think so?”
It's in the way his eyes become softer when they meet yours, the slight quiver in his lips, the way he holds your hand just a little tighter.
“Wouldn’t be here if I didn’t.”
“Okay. I…I’ll think about it.”
The two of you finish dinner, the conversation shifting to lighter topic. After cleaning up, you find yourselves back on the couch, the TV playing quietly in the background.
Everything feels so domestic it pulls at your heartstrings. And it hits you how much you love this, just being here with him.
But you can still feel the tension rolling off him. You turn to him, tracing little patterns on his chest. “You’re still worried, huh?”
He sighs, throwing his head against the cushions, his hand coming up to rest on yours. "Yeah. I’m scared talking to him will pull me back into that dark place.”
You press a kiss to his clothed chest. “You won’t go back there. Not while I’m here.”
He tightens his hold on you, “You know you’re too good for this world. It’s ridiculous.”
You narrow your eyes, “Am not.”
“Yeah, you are, Pretty Maybank.”
There it is. That nickname. “You know that’s so stupid, right?”
He grins, completely unbothered. “You love it.”
You nudge him with your elbow. “I tolerate it.”
He catches your hand, bringing it to his lips for a soft kiss. “Fits you perfectly.”
You roll your eyes, but you can’t help the grin tugging at your lips.
“If you say so.”
His eyes soften as he looks at you, his thumb tracing gentle circles on your hand. “I do.”
“Shup up,” You feel a blush creeping up your cheeks. “Don’t even know how you came up with that shit.”
Rafe laughs, the sound low and rumbling, his hand moving to rub your leg. “It’s really stupid.”
You raise an eyebrow, teasing. “’Course it is.”
“Remember when we were fourteen, and we were both at the beach for that huge surf competition? You were this cocky, skilled little girl with an ego bigger than the waves.”
“And you were a suck-up mother—"
“Anyways,” He rolls his eyes, ignoring the way you tried to cut him off, his hand now lightly squeezing your knee, “You were out there showing off, catching wave after wave. I was so fucking annoyed."
You raise an eyebrow, giving him a skeptical look. “Oh, so you were secretly in awe of me?”
“Maybe,” he admits with a sheepish grin. “Or maybe I was just bitter because you made me look bad.”
“I made everyone look bad.”
“Okay, Gabriel Medina. You were out there showing off, making everyone watch you like you owned the ocean. All the boys were ogling you, calling you pretty, and you were loving every second of it.”
You smirk, remembering the day. "I was pretty good, wasn’t I?”
“Good?” He snorts, shaking his head as his fingers trail up and down your thigh. “You were more than good, you were unreal.”
"Yeah, yeah, so how does that tie into the nickname?”
“You came out of the water, hair all messy, sand on your skin, but you had this huge smile. One of the boys called you 'Pretty Maybank,' and you just laughed, brushing it off. But I— I guess I remembered it. It fit you.”
You blink, momentarily thrown off, "I...I didn’t know you remembered that."
“You’re kinda hard to forget Maybank.”
Your heart flutters at his words, the sincerity in his voice making it hard to breathe, “Shut up.”
He leans in, capturing your lips in a gentle kiss, his hand cradling the back of your head. It only lasts a few seconds, before you’re pulling away, mumbling against his lips.
“You know, it’s funny. Back then, I thought you were just this arrogant piece of shit who was always trying too hard to fit in.”
“That’s so sweet.”
You cup his face, brushing your thumbs across his cheeks, “Hmm. You were always showing off, too.”
“Well,” he drawls, pulling you a little closer, his arms wrapping around your waist, “We both grew out of that phase. Mostly.”
“Mostly,” you agree with a grin. “But I guess some things never change.”
“Yeah,” He doesn't take his eyes off your face, “Some things don’t change.
There’s a brief silence, filled with the quiet sound of the TV and the comfortable presence of each other. His fingers continue to trace patterns on your hand, and you can feel his earlier stress easing if only a little.
“I don’t want to mess this up,” He admits quietly, “With you.”
“We’ve come this far, haven’t we?”
Rafe’s fingers gently brush a strand of hair behind your ear, “Yeah, we have.”
“I’ll keep you in check, Cameron.”
He holds you tighter, his breath mingling with yours. “You're too good for me, y’know that?”
You laugh, “I know.”
Before you can react, his fingers are dancing across your sides, tickling you mercilessly. You squeal, wriggling and trying to escape his grasp, but he’s relentless.
"Rafe!” You gasp between fits of laughter.
"Say sorry,” he demands, his fingers still working their magic.
"Never!" you manage to choke out, tears of laughter streaming down your face.
He grins wickedly, the movement driving your tummy insane.
"Wrong answer."
You squirm in his grip, the tickling intensifying. "Okay, okay, I'm sorry!" you finally relent, breathless and giggling.
Rafe stops, his hands coming to rest on your waist. His grin is triumphant, but there's a softness in his eyes that makes your heart skip a beat. "That's what I thought," he muses, leaning in to press a gentle kiss to your forehead.
You catch your breath, still smiling. "You know, for someone who's supposed to be a tough guy, you’re surprisingly good at this domestic stuff."
He chuckles, pulling you closer until you're nestled against him.
"What can I say? You bring out the best in me, Pretty Maybank."
"I like this," you admit softly. "Being here with you, just... us."
"Me too," Rafe murmurs, his hand gently stroking your hair. "Feels right, doesn't it?"
"Yeah, it does.”

Three weeks later, Rafe finally agrees to visit Ward in prison.
His lawyer arranged the meeting, emphasizing the importance of having this conversation to find closure. Despite your protests, Rafe insisted on doing this alone. Plus, prison's security measures are stringent, and there’s no way you could accompany him inside.
Instead, you’re stuck waiting outside, the anxiety killing you slowly. You're sitting on a bench outside the high-security prison, your foot tapping nervously against the ground.
The sun is blazing, making the wait even more unbearable. You wish you could be in there with him, supporting him. You glance at the ugly building, feeling desperate to get the hell away. Your phone buzzes, snapping you out of your thoughts. It’s a text from JJ.
"how's it going?"
You quickly type back.
"he just went in. kinda losing my mind out here."
"he’ll be okay. devil spawn and all yk".
"not helping???"
"my bad sis, just trying to lighten the mood. seriously though, he's got this."
You sigh, putting your phone down and glancing around the barren surroundings. The high walls and barbed wire of the prison seem to loom even larger now. Time drags on, every minute feels like an hour. You find yourself looking at the entrance every few seconds, hoping to see Rafe walk out.
Inside, Rafe is led through a maze of corridors, the echo of his footsteps bouncing off the cold concrete walls. The guards are stoic, their faces expressionless as they guide him to the visitation room. His heart pounds in his chest, but he forces himself to stay calm, to stay focused. He's going to be just fine.
When he finally walks in the room, he sees Ward already seated, the older man looking surprisingly composed. Of course he'd care about his appearance even when he's locked up. There's a glass partition between them, with phones on either side for communication. Rafe sits down, picking up the phone with a shaky hand. He wishes you were here.
Ward's eyes are piercing as they lock onto Rafe's. "Look who finally decided to visit," he says, his voice dripping with sarcasm, "Took you time, boy."
Rafe takes a deep breath. This is it.
"Only came to tell you something."
Ward raises an eyebrow, leaning back in his chair. "Oh? And what's that? That you’re an ungrateful piece of shit?”
Ignore him, your voice echoes in his head. He knew Ward was going to try to get a rise out of him and he hates that it might work.
"I'm done," Rafe says, his voice steady. "You don't control me anymore."
“After everything I've done for you?"
Rafe's grip on the phone tightens. "You didn't do shit for me. You did it for yourself."
Ward leans forward, his eyes narrowing. "You have no idea what you're talking about, boy. You need me."
"No, I don't," Rafe retorts, “No one needs you.”
Ward's eyes flash with anger, but he quickly masks it with a calculating smile. "Is that what you really think, son? That you can just walk away from everything? From me?"
Rafe feels a rush of anger fighting it's way up his throat, but he holds it back, remembering your words. He takes another breath, steadying himself, “I don’t care.”
Ward's smile fades, replaced by a sneer. "You think you're so strong now, don't you? Do you think you can survive out there without my influence? The world is a cruel place, Rafe. You won't last a day. You think that Maybank trash is gonna solve all your problems, huh?”
“You’re not getting under my skin.”
Ward's eyes narrow further, and he leans in closer to the glass, his voice dropping to a whisper. "So, it’s about her now, is it? What makes you think she’ll be any better for you than I was? She doesn’t know you like I do."
Rafe’s temper flares, but he forces himself to stay calm. He can’t take the bait.
"Keep her out of this.”
“You think you’re so righteous, so superior. You’ll need more than just some girl to get you through.”
“I don’t need you,” Rafe insists, his voice firm. “I never did.”
Ward’s expression turns cold once more, but there’s a flicker of something—maybe regret, maybe just a reflection of his anger. “You can pretend you’re free, but you know I’m not so easily forgotten.”
Rafe takes a deep breath, forcing himself to stay composed. “I don’t need to hear anything else from you. I’m done.”
“You won’t be able to keep her safe.”
He knew the conversation wouldn’t be longer than five minutes.
He stands up abruptly, the phone clattering against the partition as he drops it. He doesn't need to hear Ward any more. He turns his back on his father and walks out of the room, the door clanging shut behind him. As he walks back through the maze of corridors, his thoughts turn to you, knowing you’re outside overthinking and ready to hug the live out of him.
He’s striding to you the moment he sees you. You're still on the bench, trying to distract yourself with your phone, but it’s no use. You jump up, rushing over to him. You’re always so endearing to him it pains him to know he hurt you so badly over the years.
“You okay?”
Rafe’s arms wrap around you, finally breathing normally. His breath is warm against your ear as he whispers, “Yeah. I’m okay.”
You wrap your arms around him, holding him close as if you can protect him from the Ward’s harshness. “I was going crazy waiting out here.”
“Sorry for making you wait,” Rafe murmurs, his voice muffled against your shoulder.
“I don’t care,” You pull back slightly, your hands moving to cup his face. Your fingers trace the lines of his jaw, feeling the faint stubble beneath your touch, “You did what you needed to do. And I’m proud of you.”
He smiles a small, tired smile that doesn’t reach his eyes, “Needed to hear that. Thank you.”
You nod, your thumb brushing against his cheek. “For what?” you ask, leaning into him again. “You did great, baby. You stood up to him. That takes so much strength.”
You take his hand, your fingers intertwining with his as you lead him away from the prison. His grip is strong, his palm warm against yours. The two of you walk in silence for a moment, the only sound the gravel crunching beneath your feet. You glance at him, noting the way his shoulders have relaxed a litte.
“I felt it. Like a weight lifting off me. It’s not completely gone, but it’s lighter.”
You stop walking, turning to face him fully. Your free hand reaches up to brush a strand of hair from his forehead. It had grown so much over the past few weeks. “And it’ll keep getting lighter,” you assure him.
“You think?”
“I know. You’ll keep needing to stand up to him,” you acknowledge, “But it will get easier each time.”
His hand brushes a stray hair from your face, copying your earlier movement. “And you’ll be here with me?”
“Always.”
Rafe’s expression softens, the hard edges smoothed away by the promise in your words. He leans in, pressing a kiss to your forehead.
His lips linger there.
“You really are too good for me,” he murmurs against your skin, the sound blending with the hum of the car engines in the distance.
“I know.”
He pulls back slightly, his eyes searching yours. The intensity in his gaze takes your breath away, but it’s a different kind of intensity than you’re used to seeing in him. It’s softer, more open, and entirely focused on you.
“Let’s go home."
You nod, a smile spreading across your face. “Yeah, let’s go home.”

HIIIIIII I saw you're Damian and Rhea x reader that you just posted AND I HAVE A IDEA (No rush I'm just sending it so I don't forget)
OKAY SO in the same universe as the previous fic what if backstage on Monday night raw finn starts trying to convince the reader to join the new judgment day (bc he obviously still cares for the kid) like trying to get jd or Dom to guilt trip them or even getting liv Morgan to be buddy buddy since reader had trouble making friends.
But the reader STAYS LOYAL to the terror twins 🖤
running to write this because i love it, here’s part one
the judgment day x reader (platonic) , mention of drew mcintyre
‼️finn being a good manipulator lol, family issues, fear of abandonment, angst, reader feeling insecure, brief mention of suicidal thoughts (sorry it’s a little angst)
don’t break my heart - part 2
you lied if you said that you slept the night right after summerslam. no, you were in your hotel room watching the ceiling over and over, thinking of what was going to happen now. damian and rhea made sure to stay with you a few hours after the show, helping you calm down and making sure that you would eat something.
but they were tired and angry, so you perfectly understood when they waved goodbye and went to their rooms. they needed time to think and to cool off.
5 am and you were up to board on your next flight that didn’t leave until noon. you were living off on caffeine and sugar drinks but you didn’t care. you had no idea what was going to happen on monday night raw because you weren’t supposed to have any matches that night, you knew you would go with rhea and damian but you didn’t know what your future was going to be.
once you landed and you checked in into your new hotel room, you received a text from finn, saying to let him know once you arrived at the arena because he wanted to talk to you.
you drove along with rhea and damian and they both sensed your fear as you kept quiet, “you okay there?” damian asked you.
“uh?” you woke up from your trance.
“dam asked if you were okay, is everything okay y/n?” rhea added turning to face you.
“oh yes, i’m okay, just a lil nervous…” you hated lie to them, you hated lie in general but you couldn’t tell them that you were about to meet with finn. they would probably get mad at you and the last thing you wanted was to have your best friends hating on you too, so you kept it for yourself.
damian kept driving, knowing that eventually you would open up to them when you were ready.
once at the arena you waved them goodbye and went straight to your changing room. rhea told you to get ready in case something happened and if she needed your help so you did as she told you.
you texted finn and told him he could come over if he needed to talk to you so bad and not even 10 minutes later you heard a knock on the door.
“come in…” you screamed and he let himself in.
“hey…”
“hi” you couldn’t deny that the situation was awkward. you stood there for a couple of minutes before he could talk.
“listen…y/n i’m so sorry for everything that happened at summerslam” he apologized to you but you knew he wasn’t sorry at all.
“you lied to me finn…”
“and you lied to damian and rhea because i’m pretty sure they don’t know i’m here” he smirked at you and that look made you sick in the stomach.
“are you here to threaten me? are you to destroy the little family i have left? what do you want finn…i have no time for more bullshit, please” your voice sounded broken and finn hated himself for the way he treated you.
“i know…i’m so sorry for everything and you have to believe me…i’m not sorry for damian or for rhea because i got tired of being their little puppy, dominik too…but i have nothing against you, never have, never wil…i care about you y/n…don’t you remember all the things we shared? all the things we’ve went through?”
and you couldn’t lie to him. you will always remember how kind and patient and caring he has always been with you.
he was the first person you told about your past, even before telling damian and rhea. he was the one who held you while you cried when you told him about your thought of ending your life. he was the one who comforted you and made sure you never felt left out. and he was true when he said you’ve been through a lot because he was always there for you.
but so were damian and rhea so you couldn’t understand why was finn telling you all of that.
“why are you here finn?” you simply asked him, his way of bringing back memories made you feel guilty. seeing how much you depended upon someone made you realize that you probably were better alone than with someone.
“i want you to join us…”
“join who?”
“me…y/n, me, dom, jd and liv…listen, i know you and i know damian and rhea and they will leave you at some point…they are both chasing vengeance and power, they want their titles back, they won’t be with you forever and, i’m sorry to say it but they won’t take care about you forever…you saw the way rhea treated dom or the way damian treated jd…” his words were starting to impress in your head “jd kinda likes you” he chuckled “no, i’m pretty sure he has a crush on you…and listen, liv is really a friendly person, i know you don’t like her right now but i promise you, if you get to know her you will like her more…just give us a chance”
maybe he was right.
maybe you would ended up being alone one day and he was right about that damian and rhea had their own lives apart from you. hell, rhea just got married, maybe she would like to start a family one day…maybe finn was right.
finn always cared about you, he proved it many times so why were you afraid of trusting him?
“i-i…i don’t know finn…” your mind started to overthink. you were feeling overwhelmed and despite you still loved finn, despite you still caring for him, you couldn’t betray damian and rhea.
“listen i-…”
“no finn, you listen to me. how can you expect me to choose between you or them? how-how can you tear this family apart like this? because maybe for you it was nothing but for me…for me it was everything…” tears slowly falling down your face.
finn knew that it was wrong putting you in all of this mess. he knew that no matter what he still would have a space for you in his heart but the idea of choosing them instead of him made him feel useless, like somehow he failed you.
“i can’t choose between you or them because you are the ones who broke this group apart…” more tears falling from your eyes “i-i can’t finn…i can’t” and before he could say anything else, you turned to face the door and quickly left your changing room.
drew noticed you walking down the arena corridors with teary eyes and no matter how many time he called you, your mind couldn’t register any sound or noise. it felt like you couldn’t hear anything except your heart beating in your chest.
i just saw y/n crying and going towards the emergency exit of the arena. finn balor just came out of her changing room. don’t know what happened but she seems overwhelmed, she needs you.
drew texted rhea. he was pretty worried when he saw in what state you were in. he knew that even if he chased you, you probably would have just pushed him away. he knew something about your past and he knew how the other females in the roster would give you “the looks” and honestly he felt for you, he just wanted you to feel welcomed because for him, the wwe was just a big huge family. he knew that you needed time, that’s why he warned rhea.
when she read the text, she felt her heart missing a few beats.
“what?” damian asked a little concerned when he saw the look on her face.
she was still a little shocked “drew texted me…he saw finn leaving y/n’s changing room and he said that when she left she was crying…she’s probably going’s back to the hotel, he said she’s going outside”
that was all damian needed to hear before leaving rhea’s changing room and sprinting over the emergency exit. rhea following behind, making a note to thank drew later.
they both saw you sitting on the emergency stairs and slowly they both approached you.
damian sat in front of you while rhea sat next to you “hey angel…” rhea slowly turned your face towards hers “why are you crying beautiful?”
in that moment you saw it in their eyes.
they cared.
they cared like a family.
rhea was about to cry because she couldn’t stand the idea of seeing you upset.
“finn wanted to talk to me…he, well, he basically offered me a spot to join him alongside with dom, jd and liv…” you said. you feared that they would get mad but rhea’s eyes told you the opposite.
“and what did you say?” damian asked you, gently smiling at you.
“that i can’t…i can’t leave you, i can’t even look him in the eyes, it just hurts too much and i can’t have you hate on me too” you softly spoke.
damian looked at you and saw nothing but pure intentions “y/n…we could never hate you. we know how close you and finn are, and i know it hurts right now so we won’t forbid you to see him again if you want to…”
“but i can’t damian! it doesn’t feel right, it’s not right! i’m not turning my back on you, i would never do that…you guys mean so much for me and i can’t stand the idea of losing you or hate you but…but finn said some things that made me think…”
“what did he say sweetheart?” rhea gently asked.
“well, for instance, rhea you just got married…and i can’t hold you back for the rest of my life just because my head is a fucking mess, you have your life and i don’t want you to feel the need to look after me forever…same goes for you damian, i can’t depend on you for the rest of my life…”
“that’s absolute nonsense y/n” damian said and rhea agreed with him. she was mad with finn for playing those mind tricks with you, knowing exactly that your mind wasn’t in the right place and that you would get negative thoughts very easily.
“listen” damian spoke “we are a family okay? we stay together, now, tomorrow and in ten years okay? just because we have a life outside this company doesn’t mean that you’re not a part of our life outside of it okay? we stay together instead and outside…i love you like you are my own sister, fuck you could be my daughter y/n…” damian joked making you laugh.
“damian’s right” rhea held your hands “we stay together because we care about you, now and in a million years…”
“thank you for everything guys…” you smiled at both at them.
“you don’t have to thank us love…” rhea wiped some of your tears away “now, why don’t you help me getting ready uh? tonight’s gonna be a big night and i want to look perfect” she laughed making you laugh too.
“yup” you smiled and with their help you got up from the uncomfortable stairs.
rhea mentally noted to thank drew and to kick finn’s ass because he made you doubt yourself, and most importantly, he made you cry.

𝗦𝗣𝗜𝗟𝗟𝗘𝗗 𝗖𝗢𝗙𝗙𝗘𝗘 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗡𝗘𝗪 𝗦𝗛𝗜𝗥𝗧𝗦
pairing: daniel ricciardo x fem!reader
word count: 1.9k+
summary: you run into daniel at a race, completely oblivious to who he is and what he does ━━ or ━━ a spilled coffee turns into a lot more than you thought it would
warnings: readers job is a crime scene investigator (it’s important, i promise), some awkward moments (i know nothing about flirting), some swearing, violence, sexual innuendos | may not be the best writing as it is my first time writing for f1 and i’m still new, first time trying instagram dm’s and things like that so let me know what you think!
The sound of the apartment door opening fills your senses as you wake your way into the apartment, pulling your shoes off and putting your keys in the bowl. You brush a hand through your hair as you breathe out a big sigh. When you get home, you finally let the days stress hit you, then you brush it off, and separate yourself from your work. It’s important not to bring home what you do. It would be damaging. As you make your way to the kitchen to refill your water-bottle, your phone rings from inside your pocket.
Setting your bottle down, you answer it without checking who it is. “Hey!” Your friends voice chimes out. By the sound of it, she needs a favour. “Hey. What do you need?” You ask her, lightly laughing as she gets out a “what do you mean?” “I know your voice. Now spit it out before I reconsider.”
“You know how I was going with Kayla to the Miami Grand Prix?” You nod, forgetting she can’t see you. “Yeah ━━ what was that again?” “It’s a formula one race being held.” You hum in response. “Well, she came down with a cold, no one else is available, and these paddock passes were too expensive to not use. Will you go with me?” You can hear her smile over the phone. “I don’t know . . .” “Come on y/n, you never go out unless it’s grocery shopping, work, or when I drag you out. This will be good for you. Plus, it may get you into formula one so I have another person to talk about it to.” You chuckle at that.
“First of all ━━ you are dragging me out, and second of all you do talk to me about it.” She lets put a huff that you know means “you know what I mean”. You do never really go out. It’s not that you’re a hermit and don’t want to, you just don’t get a lot of opportunities to and when you do, you can’t help but remember places youve been to at work and what happened there. At least at these Grand Prix thing nothing bad has happened as you know. “Fine.” She squeals and says thank you a million times before telling you when it is and when she’ll pick you up.
That’s how you end up in the paddock at the Miami International Autrodrome, following your friend around as she explains different things to you and fangirls over people. You remember some names that she had told you during one of her rants, and you smile when you see the smile on her face. You’re glad that she’s having fun, that makes you happy and makes this more enjoyable. During your walk, you stop at a coffee bar and grab an iced coffee while she gets a redbull coffee ━━ whatever that means ━━ and explains how the redbull team has it at every race. “You’ve wanted to try that since forever right?” You ask her, trading coffees and taking a sip. “Yeah. It’s supposed to taste amazing and also gives me the boost of caffeine coffee is supposed because it doesn’t from how much I drink.”
As you sip and she chugs her drink, you stop in front of a bathroom and she instructs you to wait as she goes in. You wait a little ways away, tucked out of the way and scrolling through your phone. It seems the person coming your way was also doing that as he accidentally bumped into you. You drop your phone, coffee lid opening and spilling down your shirt. “Oh my god, I’m so sorry!”
The first thing you note is that this coffee is incredibly cold, and that the man who bumped into you has an Australian accent. You bring yourself back and out of the cold feeling, facing the man. He must work here because he has a RB racing shirt on and a lanyard. “It’s alright.” You politely smile and pick up your phone. It’s not. It’s cold as fuck and it’s wet. “I wasn’t watching where I was going and,” his voice trails off as you look around for an area to get something to clean you up.
There’s a pause before “I have an extra shirt in my room if you want.” The man offers. You’re a bit puzzled as to why he has his own room but you’re too concerned on the feeling of coffee in your shirt. “You sure you wont murder me?” You asked, arms crossed and eyebrow raised. “Yes, I’m sure.” You stare at him for a little longer before you nod and tell him to lead the way. “I’m Daniel,” he tells you. You introduce yourself as you wrap your arms around yourself, feeling self conscious at the way people are staring at you two.
“Straight to murder, eh?” He joked as you followed him. You shrugged, “it’s my first instinct. My job revolves around it.” He looked at you with a puzzled look, as if asking you to explain. “I’m a crime scene investigator,” you revealed as you got to a door and he led you in. You take in the surroundings as he opens a closet and digs around to find you a clean shirt. “My job is to determine ━━ well, more like make an educated guess ━━ on if the person was assaulted and how.” You thank him as he passes you a shirt he finds. He stands waiting for you to continue until he lets out an “oh!” and turns around, blush on his cheeks as he apologizes.
“How do you do that?” He seemed genuinely interested in your conversation, not just making small talk to cover the fact that a woman he’s just met is changing behind him. “The main thing I do is blood pattern analysis,” you start, voice slightly muffled as you skip your shirt off, “blood behaves to specific scientific principles as all liquids do, and so i use that information and what blood there is at a crime scene to do that.” You grab the RB shirt from between your legs and slip it on, telling him he can turn around.
“So we can analyze the size, shape, distribution, location and use the behaviour of blood, physics like the velocity and capillary action, math to determine things such as where did it come from, what caused the wounds, and how were they positioned to make a guess or determine what happened.” Daniel makes a slightly shocked face. “You can do all that from a blood splatter?” “Yeah, just like any other pattern,” you shrug while smiling, you feel proud, “I took a course on it. It’s really just looking at what’s around you. It takes a trained eye.”
“I think you’re one of the smartest people I have ever met.” He tells you, and you blush. “Thanks.” You mumble. You both stand there before you mumble about having to get back. “Oh right, of course. I’m sorry.” Daniel apologies as he reaches for the door and opens it, allowing you to go first. You walk side by side as you continue to talk about your work. When you get to the end of the garage, you say goodbye and you head to try and find your friend.
You eventually bump into her at the same coffee station. “Where were you?” she almost yells, “I was so worried!” “A guy spilled coffee on me and then offered to get me another shirt. I think he worked her. His name was Daniel.” Your friend finally notices the shirt you’re wearing and a look comes across her face. “Daniel Ricciardo?” “I don’t know. I didn’t get his last name.” You shrug, not realizing what the big deal is. Who’s this Daniel Ricciardo and why is he so important.
“What did he look like?” She pestered. “Tall, curly brunette, Australian,” she interrupts you with a gasp. You look at her confused. “That was Daniel Ricciardo, the F1 driver?” You look confused until you remember how she was talking about him a couple weeks ago. “Oh . . . Cool.” “I can’t believe you’re being so chill about this.” She shakes her head with a small smile. “I just don’t know that much about this, and don’t really care if he’s famous. He bumped into me and ruined my good shirt.” You tell her, lifting up the shirt. You laughs and let’s put a “true.”
You continue the day as you would’ve, her telling you more about Daniel Ricciardo, and pointing out his car during the race, as well as the other drivers. You’re starting to understand a little more. She gets a couple photos signed from other drivers and you both leave happy. You happy that you learned some new things and got a break from being inside your house and her happy that she got to do this. You knew it had been something she wanted to do forever.
When you go to bed that night after throwing your dirty shirt in the laundry with another load, you hang up the shirt that Daniel gave you and went to bed thinking about what happened that day, and that you also didn’t get a refund for your coffee.

You didn’t even have time to see your friends comment on instagram before she’s calling you. “Hello?” You asked, making your way to your apartment. “Was that you in that post?” “What post?” You heard a scoff of disbelief. “The one with daniel and a girl who likes strikingly similar to you on a date last night? You just told me you were busy. Not busy with daniel ricciardo!” She yelled the last bit and you had to pull your phone away from your ear.
“I didnt know I had to! It was just a date.” You explained as you opened your apartment door and took off your shoes. “It doesn’t matter if it’s just a date, and it doesn’t even matter that much about who it’s with, you haven’t been on a date in forever.” You could tell she was genuinely happy for you when she said that and you smiled and blushed. You shrugged even though she couldn’t see you. “You have to meet me at a coffee shop and spill.” “Alright. Twenty minutes?” You replied. “See you soon girlie.”
You were there within fifteen minutes and were greeted with your friend smiling at you. You hugged her as she got up to greet you and then you sat down, taking a sip of the coffee she ordered you. “Besides the fact that he’s a famous driver, i am really happy for you babe. It’s good to see you happy and taking some time for yourself.” She told you as she grabbed your hand across the table. You smiled at her as you thanked her. She gave you a look as if asking you to start talking. “He’s really nice.” You gushed.
Her smile got wider than you’ve ever seen. “That’s so good! What happened? Where did you go?” “He picked up from my apartment almost 10 minutes early,” “ooh he’s early, gentleman.” Your friend teased. “He held the door open to the car and the restaurant. We went to that place on the corner near the diner we always go to. It wasn’t too fancy, it was like he knew what I liked.” You continued to ramble, your friend becoming more and more excited. “Yeah, so, I think we might be doing it again.” You finished, your coffee almost done.
“Y/n. Oh my god. You have to text me after and let me know. I want to know if this works out. I really hope it does.” “I will text you immediately after, unless we end up watching a movie or something.” She winked at you when you said that.

CW: abuse, alcoholism (very short tho)
Bruce was angry pretty often nowadays. If he wasn’t angry he was quiet and depressed, and that only happened when he was drunk. He’d lounge in random rooms in the manor with a half-empty bottle in his hand, half asleep and crying for Jason.
Tim was used to people like that, he knew how to deal with it. When Jack drunk he became quiet and reserved. He locked himself in his study and stayed there for hours, wailing about his late wife.
The difference between Jack and Bruce was Tim could be what Bruce needed. Inebriated, Bruce’s dizzy vision lent Tim the perfect tool. He’d call out for Jason and as long as Tim styled his hair a certain way, Bruce was none the wiser. He’d hold Tim’s face and kiss his forehead and whisper apologies. Tim could copy Jason’s voice well enough, or at least Bruce never said anything about it. The times Bruce did notice it was Tim resulted in him yelling and throwing things. He never hit Tim with his own hands, which was nice, but he rarely missed. Once he’d worked himself tired Tim could drag him to bed.
Tim doesn’t know when exactly Bruce started calling him Jason sober, but it starts to happen. He answers to it every time because otherwise Bruce would be angry. Or rather, he’d be angry either way but there was less tension when he goes along with it. Tim can’t remember the last time Bruce said his name, it’s always Robin, or Jason, or you. But he’s fine, Bruce was working through his grief while being Batman, he was stressed. Alfred calls him Timothy and that’s enough for now.
.
Tim is tired. He hasn’t slept in… he forgot how long—and his caffeine intake is at a critical low. He’s in the cave, which usually made this easier, but… he stares blankly at his screen and tries to remember how to type the next sentence. At some point, people walk in, he doesn’t know who or why, but they're arguing. He hears his name echo through the cave.
“Jason!”
It’s Bruce. He’s angry, but not drunk angry. The type of angry he gets when Tim makes a small slip up, something inconsequential, but more than enough to punish him for. Tim runs through scenarios. He doesn’t know what he did but for something this small it’s probably just be impromptu training. Rough training where Tim would end up with a bruise from Bruce’s bo staff. He could probably deal with that right now. He spun around in his chair.
“Yeah, Bruce?”
The argument pauses and the two others look at him and Tim stares right back. He doesn’t know why Bruce isn’t answering until he gives his brain a second to process. Oh. Oh. Jason was standing right next to Bruce, holding back a snicker. He was talking to Jason. He hadn’t called Tim ‘Jason’ in years. Bruce’s eyes are wide as he stares back at Tim in shock. His jaw sets and tightens and Tim feels his body lock up. If Bruce wasn’t mad with him before he was now. Jason walks over and pokes a finger into Tim’s forehead.
“The hell was that, replacement, tryna take my name too?” He jokes. It’s a joke. Jason doesn’t know, no one knows.
Tim swats the finger away and turns his chair back around. “Sorry. Haven’t slept, thought I heard my name.”
“Yeah, we can tell.” Jason grabs Tim’s shoulder. “Go to bed, man, you’ve been awake for days.”
Tim glances over his shoulder at Bruce. He’s still staring, but now he’s scowling. His eyes dart back to Jason. “Yeah, okay.”

Awkward Interviews 1 : Awkward Interviews ft. Bored Mark
Chapter 5 : Part 1
(Racing Hearts : VOLUME 3 )
racing hearts
The press conference was set up like any other—a line of drivers in front of cameras, a crowd of eager reporters, and the buzzing energy typical of a race weekend. Charles, as always, was focused and fully present, offering smooth answers with a professional charm that the media loved. He sat with the other drivers, answering questions, leaning in to share his thoughts, his bright-eyed, caffeinated energy making him as lively as ever.
But then, there was Mark.
Mark, who clearly hadn’t had enough coffee, sat slouched in his chair, looking like he’d rather be anywhere else. He stared off into the distance, eyes glazed, mind seemingly far away. His posture was a study in apathy, his arms crossed lazily over his chest, his head lolling slightly to the side as if he might actually fall asleep then and there.
The next journalist, clearly determined to pull him into the conversation, looked directly at Mark and asked, “Mark, what’s your guilty pleasure?”
Mark blinked, as if just realizing he was still in a room full of people. He tilted his head slightly, then answered in an entirely innocent tone, “Why would I feel guilty when I’m being pleasured?”
For a moment, the silence in the room was absolute.
Across the stage, the other drivers stifled laughter, and even the reporters glanced at each other, momentarily at a loss. Charles, meanwhile, went rigid, his jaw dropping a little as he stared at Mark. He could feel a blush creeping up his neck as the other drivers tried to hide their grins, each one catching Charles’ reaction before he could fully mask it.
Mark, utterly oblivious to the bomb he’d just dropped, kept a straight face as he leaned back, crossing one leg over the other. His eyes drifted back to that same spot on the floor, leaving everyone else to interpret (or misinterpret) what he had just said.
Seeing an opportunity to lighten the mood, a reporter piped up, “Well, Mark, any funny stories with Charles you’d like to share? Perhaps something about your partnership or moments off-track?”
Mark, still not fully there, glanced vaguely in Charles’ direction, his expression blank as he recalled a recent memory. “Oh, yeah, I remember now. I was having this amazing dream about winning the championship with Charles—y’know, feeling like we’re on top of the world. And then Charles decides to wake me up by spraying water on my face.”
Mark paused, looking almost fondly at the memory. “So yeah, I ended up having wet dreams about Charles.”
The room exploded into an awkward mix of laughter and gasps. Charles turned a deep shade of red, unable to contain his reaction this time. The other drivers were visibly struggling to keep it together, glancing at each other with wide eyes and open mouths.
Mark, of course, was still blissfully unaware, merely nodding to himself as if he had made a perfectly normal, everyday statement.
As the press conference continued, Mark was hit with yet another straightforward question: this time about his racing strategy for the upcoming season. The journalists expected a standard response, maybe some rehearsed lines about focus and team effort. But Mark, as usual, answered in his own unique style, inadvertently raising eyebrows yet again.
With complete sincerity, he began explaining his approach. "I think it’s all about finding the right position and… well, you know, staying steady, especially when things get intense." He paused, as if weighing his words, then continued, “Once you’re in, you just have to go deeper until you reach that… sweet spot.”
The crowd froze for a split second, unsure if they’d just heard what they thought they did. The innuendo wasn’t lost on anyone, and the amused expressions around the room confirmed that. Charles, who had been attempting to stay professional despite Mark’s earlier comments, was now visibly struggling, eyes squeezed shut as he tried not to burst out laughing.
As the press conference progressed, the hilarity only escalated. Mark was asked yet another question that seemed harmless on the surface:
“Mark, you and Charles are known for working really well together on the track. How would you describe the way you two… sync up?”
Mark took a moment to think before answering, trying his best to keep things professional this time. “Well, with Charles, it’s like… we just have this connection, you know?” he started, his tone completely sincere. “Like he knows exactly when to push and when to pull back. And sometimes, you just… feel each other’s rhythm.”
The interviewer’s grin widened as the room filled with stifled laughter. Charles’ face went beet red, and he muttered under his breath, “Oh, for god’s sake.”
Finally catching on to the double meaning, Mark’s eyes went wide. He covered his face with one hand, sighing in exasperation, “I didn’t mean—oh, come on!”
Charles struggled to keep a straight face, and even some of the other drivers chuckled at Mark’s unintentional word choices. The media jumped on the moment immediately, fueling fan reactions on social media.
@Charkshipper : "We understand that mark dreams of winning the championship. But WITH Charles? Hmmm something is going on 👀 #Charkisreal"
@RacingDreams88: “MARK REALLY SAID ‘WHY FEEL GUILTY WHEN I’M BEING PLEASURED?’ 💀 HE'S KILLING ME #AwkwardButIconic #F1PressCon”
@Charles_EyesOnly: “Charles blushing after Mark said ‘wet dreams’ about him… I AM NOT OKAY #CharMark #MoreThanTeammates???”
@TrackSideTrouble: “FINDING THE RIGHT POSITION? Going DEEPER?? Mark is out here turning press conferences into stand-up comedy 💀💀 #F1”
@RacingRookie19: “I SWEAR HE DOESN’T MEAN TO SOUND LIKE THAT 😭 Mark, pls never change. #SweetSpot #InnuendoKing”
@CharlesBae_Fan: “Charles’ face every time Mark speaks: 🫣💀 Literally struggling not to laugh! Mark is accidentally hilarious. #F1PressChaos”
@CharlesAndMarkFan: “Mark, babe, that’s not how you describe a racing partnership 😂 but pls continue #SyncUpGoals”
@F1_Memelord: “‘Charles knows exactly when to push and pull back.’ Yeah, Mark, we can tell. Poor Charles can’t handle this lmao #PressConferenceFails”
Memes in Circulation
An image of an interviewer with a pained smile, captioned, “When you just wanted a normal answer but got a confession.”
Facepalm Compilation: A collage of Charles’ progressively redder face with each of Mark's unintentional innuendos: “Charles’ journey during one press conference.”
A GIF of Charles burying his face in his hands, captioned, “When your teammate can’t stop ‘finding sweet spots’ during interviews.”
A GIF of Charles sinking into his seat, his face bright red, with the caption: “Charles trying to survive Mark’s accidental innuendos like… #Help #SaveCharles”
Mark’s accidental innuendos kept everyone entertained, from his teammates to fans. Even Charles, as much as he tried to hide it, couldn’t help but find it amusing—even endearing—watching Mark unknowingly trip over his words.

Can you please write a Kaz Brekker x reader fanfic where the reader mentions something they love or like to Jesper when they are talking and Kaz overhears and then starts buying her it like everday and like leaves it on the readers nightstand, but the reader doesn’t know who’s been leaving it until like someone else finds out and tells the reader? Please.
THIS IS SO CUTE
Caffeine
(Kaz x reader)
"Coffee? You drink coffee everyday?" Jesper asked. "Well something's got to keep me going." You said with a shrug. Kaz who was seated across from you at another table had a newspaper up, drinking his usual tea as he looked for a lead on a job. What you didn't realize was that Kaz had heard you.
He loved you so much but hadn't said anything. After all, who would return the sentiment to a man who was repulsed by being touched. He showed it in small gestures. Always giving you a free meal at the club, ensuring your safety on the streets, giving you your own room at the Slat, paying for your weapon repairs when you needed them. Inej and Jesper knew the real reason. They both knew Kaz loved you but wouldn't admit it. "She's an investment, nothing more." He told them. Investment. Right. That's all you were to him.
Kaz got up from his seat, you looking over. "Going back to the Slat?" You asked. He gave a silent nod. "I'll go with you, I'm pretty tired." You said getting up. "Probably a caffeine crash." Jesper said. "Oh shove off you." You said with an eyeroll. Kaz walked the lit streets of Ketterdam with you next to him.
There was a part of him that wanted so badly to know what it'd be like to actually love you. "Stop" he'd tell himself. "That is vulnerability. That is a weakness."
"Something on your mind Kaz?" You asked. "Mm? No. Nothing, why?" He asked. "You're just quietly staring at me pretty hard there. So." You said with a shrug, putting your arms around yourself to keep from getting cold. "You're cold." He realized. "Well sort of. It's not that big of a-" Kaz took his coat off, handing it to you. "Deal..." you finished, looking at the man with slight surprise. "Thank you." You said, taking the coat.
You could never get a full read on Kaz. Sometimes you thought he was a decent man, someone who'd never turn his back on you. Other times you agreed with Nina's mindset of him being slappable. It didn't help that he was gorgeous. Sometimes you had this urge to just run your fingers through his hair. You knew he hated touch though so you kept your hands to yourself.
His coat was too big for you of course, going slightly over your hands. "I have a new weapon." You declared, waving the loose sleeve at him. His heart exploded in his chest, him quickly looking away to hide the blush forming on his cheeks. "I didn't think your arms were this long. Hmm." You said, stretching out your arms to see the size difference of the sleeves. He found you to be so adorable. It was frustrating. Is this how everyone saw Wylan?
When you reached the Slat, you gave him back his jacket. "Thanks for keeping me warm." You told him. He just nodded in response and you went to bed.
The next morning you woke up to a warm aroma. Your eyes fluttered open and you saw a coffee on your nightstand. You leaned up confused. Did you buy coffee last night and not remember? No, that wasn't possible. It was warm, it'd be cold if it was from last night.
You drank it, tasting a faint hazelnut. It was a pleasant feeling, waking you up enough to go downstairs where Jesper was sitting with Inej. "Thanks for the coffee." You said sitting next to Jesper. He rose a brow. "I didn't get you coffee." He said. You blinked. "Inej?" You asked. "No." She said. "Wylan?" You asked the boy coming downstairs. "What?" He asked. "Did you give me coffee?" You asked. "No? I'm not big on coffee." He shrugged. "Who the hell made me coffee?" You asked as Kaz walked past them. "Kaz, did you make me coffee?" You asked. "Yeah, right. Kaz make you coffee. Mark that up there with the saints themselves paying us a visit." Jesper said. Kaz ignored the group, walking out the door. Inej looked at you and then the door. She knew.
She had her sneaking suspicions about his intentions towards you for a while, but it seemed the coffee was the final nail in the coffin. Kaz was in love with you, he just wasn't saying anything. Knowing how stubborn the ass could be, there was a chance he'd never say anything.
The following mornings were the same. You'd wake up to coffee on your nightstand. It was a nice ritual but you were confused on who was leaving it for you. So you decided to sleep light. It was around eight when your door opened, you pretending to still sleep. You heard the person set down the cup and you looked over to see the last person you'd expect. "Kaz?" You asked making him jump.
"You're the one leaving me coffee?" You asked. "Uh... No?" He lied. He was the worst liar when it came to you. You leaned up looking at him. "Yes. I am." He said. "But... why?" You asked. "It makes you happy." He muttered. Your heart melted at those words. Something so trivial to you yet it clearly was a bigger deal to him. Your happiness was something he'd actively go out of his way for. And that made you want to kiss him.
"Kaz that's so-" "Ridiculous, I know-" "Sweet. I was going to say sweet." You corrected. He put a hand on the back of his neck, looking away nervously. "Have you always done things like this?" You asked. "No." He lied again. You looked at him with a squint, implying you knew more. "Yes. Yes I have." He sighed. "Kaz, why haven't you said anything?" You asked. "Because why would you care?" He asked. "Well if someone is doing things for them I should thank them. It's just polite." You said sarcastically. He sighed. "Kaz..." you said getting up.
He moved back. "Kaz, I care about you. I just... I need to know that-" "Why?" He asked. "What?" "I am a rude, selfish man who is known literally as the 'Bastard of the Barrel'. So why do you care about me?" He asked. Your gaze softened. "You keep me safe" You said moving closer. Kaz moved back again. "You make sure that I'm not starving" you stepped closer and Kaz gripped the dresser behind him. "You made me coffee every morning because you knew I liked it" you said looking in his eyes.
"Kaz, you keep me alive. You make sure I have what I need. I went from being alone to having a home. You have... you have become my home." You said softly. Kaz looked in your eyes. "If you'll let me... I will be yours." If he let himself fall for you, it'd be a great risk. You were a weakness. You were his weakness. He was shaking from how close you were to him. He hated touch and yet somehow you made him want to touch you.
You backed up. "Just think about it. Okay?" You said. He swallowed hard as you approached your bedroom door.
His hand clasped around your wrist, catching you off guard. You had never touched him before, you knew he hated to be touched. Not only was he touching you, he was touching you with his bare hands. You turned to face him, staring at him.
Why wasn't he feeling that nausea that always came with touching someone? He hated touch so much, he hated that feeling and yet... He didn't feel nauseous. He didn't feel upset or anxious. He looked in your eyes, you not daring to utter a word while in his grasp. He couldn't stop staring into your eyes. He saw so much in them. He saw stars in them, he saw a fire thar burned bright... he saw a bit of himself in them.
His other hand found its way to your cheek, you instinctively leaning into his touch. Oh how he nearly fell apart at that. He had debated for months on simply telling you that he had feelings for you. He technically hadn't said anything but his actions, especially at this moment were screaming his intentions. You couldn't resist that. Like gold being waved in front of a thief you wanted nothing more than for Kaz to just kiss you. You wanted to know the thoughts in his mind.
He didn't kiss you. Not right away at least. He rested his forehead on yours, the hand on your wrist sliding into your hand. You looked at him as he closed his eyes, swallowing hard. "I have spent most of my life just... surviving. Sometimes I feel like I'm barely a human. But... there is something that reminds me that I am alive." He said softly. You wanted to ask but you couldn't form words when Kaz was this close to you. "You make me feel more human than anything else... And I am grateful for that." He said softly. You smiled slightly, holding his hand on your cheek. "I love you Kaz Brekker. Heart and soul. Body and mind." You said to him.
He smiled. He actually smiled. Something that very rarely came from him appeared in front of you. And you caused such a beautiful thing to occur. He kissed you, finally breaking a dam that had been nearly bursting for almost a year now. You smiled against his lips, looking in his eyes. "What?" Kaz asked quietly.
"I love seeing you happy." You said softly. He kissed you again with that same sweet smile. "I love you Y/n." He said softly. "And I love you Kaz." You said softly. He loved seeing those eyes looking at him. Your gaze was something that made him feel powerful and he had it now.
"If I known you'd be this grateful for coffee, I would've bought you a damn coffeehouse." He said making you laugh.

Ryan Dunn X Fem!Reader
(Fluff)
2k Words
Warnings: Suggestive content, nudity, alcohol, description of injury, fighting, jealousy, crude language
An: Thank you for the request!! I had a fun time writing more in depth for Ryan! If anyone is wondering why Bam always sleeps naked in my fics it’s because of a story he told on Radio Bam! You can find it on YouTube under “Bam Gets Caught”, but it’s not the onky time to my memory that he’s talked about sleeping naked XD! Besides that, I actually had a couple requests i combined to create this fic so I included the ones I didn’t reply to directly but still used below! :)
“Watchin’ the little back n’ forth thing you’ve got with her’s painful. I mean-“ Bam leaned over on his side, propping his head up with a hand while laying on the adjacent bed, “Just quit the pussy shit, dude.” Ryan ran a hand through his blonde, sweat soaked hand as the sounds of the running shower made white noise in the background. “It’s not easy, man! I mean, I’ve known her since we've been in diapers.” Sighing, Ryan finally looked at Bam, “I'm sorry- I just can’t take you seriously when you’re naked.” It was a casualty of their closeness that he was very comfortable being nude in front of his best friend, but he didn’t seem to care in the slightest, moving to get up, “You know what? If you’re not gonna tell her, I will.”
“No way! She’s in the shower!” Like a startled animal, Bam broke into a sprint on a dime, nearly reaching the bathroom door handle before Ryan hurled himself off of the bed, tackling him to the scratchy hotel room carpet. His vision was a blur of un-vacuumed orange carpet and pale man skin as the two wrestled, thumping and rolling around and cursing through clenched teeth. But in an act of perfect timing, that’s exactly when you opened the bathroom door. Wrapped in a white towel, hot steam billowed around you as you stared down at the scene at your feet- Ryan pinning a completely exhausted Bam down on his back by his skinny little arms as he straddled him, the two of them making direct eye contact with you. Your mind went blank. “I, uh…did I interrupt something…?”
“It’s wrestling!” They seemed to speak in unison. Bam added hurriedly, “It’s a guy thing.” Panicking and trying to find a way out of this situation, Ryan played along, “Yeah, yeah- total guy thing.” You raised an eyebrow, “So, you wrestle naked?” Easily slipping out from under him and not caring if you saw him, Bam walked into the bathroom, squeezing past you as you still stood shocked in the doorway, “Yeah, Greco-Roman style. Totally!”
You and Ryan sat on top of the covers on his bed as you dried off, only half watching tv. There was some sort of tension between you and him that you really couldn't place. Maybe it was you thinking about technically sharing a bed with him. Maybe it was him thinking about you in that towel. Sniffing the air, Ryan broke the silent tension, “What's that smell?” You sighed in relief that you finally had something to talk about, accidentally replying a little too eagerly, “Oh! I bought some new shampoo.” He sat up a little bit straighter next to you, glancing down at you curiously, “Any, uh- any reason?” You shrugged, “Nah, just felt like it.” Ryan smiled at you. “It’s nice.”
Ryan could hardly remember what stunt he got hurt doing, but the blood dripping into his right eye from the gash on his forehead blurred his vision as he tried to get his bearings. His head spun as he pulled himself up from the pavement, little bits of gravel and dirt caked into his skin and hair. There goes that shower. At least it makes for good footage, he thought, as the rest of the crew cheered while looking back at the footage through the display of Rick’s camcorder.
But just as the cameras turned off, in came Y/N. Oh, Y/N. You kneeled down in front of the dazed man, and you could practically see the little birds and stars flying around Ryan’s head as you reached into your pocket, pulling out some first aid supplies. After a few years of this, you learned to keep this kind of stuff on you due to the nature of what you did- either that, or you'd have to drive bam to the ER again with another horribly infected wound while he wailed in the backseat like a baby. Tearing open the alcohol wipe with your teeth, you gingerly moved the wet curls that stuck to your best friend’s forehead before wiping the cut tenderly, little streaks of red showing through the thin wipe.
There was something in the way that you cleaned his wounds and tended to him better than any of the guys- or hell, better than he ever cared for himself. The alcohol stung and he winced, hissing air through his teeth. You chuckled, “Oh, don’t be a baby…” Your body was so close to him that Ryan could feel the heat radiating off of you as you blew gently on the alcohol soaked cut, the liquid rapidly drying on his face. Oh. Oh, yeah. Yep. He was getting a hard on.
Luckily, you didn’t seem to notice as you finished up, shoving the used wipes into your pocket, “There, all better!” Ryan chuckled and, for just a second, you lingered there, maybe a little too close to him for a little too long. But it felt so normal- so right. After a few heartbeats, you pulled away a little reluctantly. He smiled as you gave him a hand, helping him up while he was still a little dizzy, “Hey, thanks for that…”
“It’s nothing! Don’t worry about it.”
Bam groaned childishly, “If you like her so much, just fuckin’ say it!” Ryan relented that it still hadn’t gotten through his thick skull while he nursed that head injury from earlier with a bag of frozen peas. “She’s already got a boyfriend. It’s not gonna happen!” He was an asshole of a boyfriend too, Ryan thought, real scum. He was always so close to you whenever you all hung out as a group, just hanging off of you like he couldn’t stand by himself. Maybe Dunn felt a little envious of all of your body heat that was being absorbed by that dirtbag, but he would never say that to you. “I mean, he’s a fucking dick, but…” All he received from the other man was a shrug in return. “So? I’ve fucked chicks with boyfriends.” Bam sneered, making his way to the door, “Why don’t you just get’er name tattooed on your forehead if you’re so into her?” It’s not like Bam could get the point if he sat on it and it stuck in his ass. Rolling his eyes, Ryan didn’t even notice until his buddy was about hallway down the hall till he heard the echo of his voice, “Hey, Y/N! Listen, I got-“
Before he could even think, he was out in that hallway after him, jumping on Bam before he could finish his sentence. He landed right at your feet, nearly on the toes of your shoes. You peered over the scene as the two, fully clothed this time thank god, tussled in front of you, grunting and muttering cuss words beneath their breath. Eventually, he got Bam’s head pinned firmly to the ground and he looked up at you with those wide, baby blue eyes, cracking a tired smile as he caught his breath. “Hey…” You had to resist blushing, reminding yourself that your heart really shouldn’t be beating as fast for your best friend. “Where’re you two going?” Bam squirmed, muttering something that got spoken over. “The, uh- the bar! We’re going to the bar! You wanna join?”
That act of quick thinking actually worked better than he had planned. Ryan’s half thought out excuse led him to score what was basically- practically a date with you. The only problem was that his wingman was also the biggest cockblock in history. “So,” You leaned towards Ryan, scoping the place out idly, “you wanna get a table?” He glanced over to Bam for an answer, maybe even some smart ass response, but nope. Nothing. In the few minutes you three were there, he had already left and picked up a chick at the bar. Dunn was on his own and maybe not thinking clearly, but he replied anyway, “Uh…yeah, sure!”
“God…” Ryan’s head buzzed as he gazed at you from across the table, maybe just a little too close as he chuckled, “you’ll never guess what Bam told me earlier…” Giggly, you didn’t even think to move, breathing in the same booze scented air as him, “What…?” Your mouth moved lazily and the same was true for Ryan as he murmured, “He said I should get’cher name tattooed- On m’forehead.” He gestured with a finger to the top of his head. “Oh, that idiot…” You smiled, leaning forward just enough that your foreheads touched. While intoxicated, it didn’t seem like that bad of an idea- but not his face. His face was too cute, but maybe the arm. That would look nice, yeah. In fact, it was kinda romantic. Sighing, you sat there for a while, your eyelashes brushing against each others before speaking up, “M’tired…” Ryan looked at you through heavy lids as you slurred, your eyes falling, “Can I go back’t your room tonight?”
God, it was like fireworks were going off inside of Ryan’s head, soldiers giving a twenty one gun salute, angels singing, eccetera. Maybe, just maybe- maaaaybe this might be a sign you liked him back, but god it just felt too good to be true. Even with a stomach full of booze, all he could barely stutter out was, “Uh, sure. Yeah.”
So that’s how you ended up in Ryan’s bed. Sure, you were fully clothed but nonetheless it meant something. The bed felt so nice, so warm and cozy with the two of you in it; hotel beds are made to be shared, you thought, feeling the heat from his body press against your back, not noticing how quickly his heart was beating against you. Ryan thanked god. Slowly but very surely, the two of you were both drifting off to sleep when he piped up, his lips barely moving against your neck as he spoke. What he meant to say was, ‘I think I like you.’ but it came out more like,“I think I love you….I mean, I have for a while.” Time stopped as Ryan felt his face get hot, holding a breath. He felt the giggle reverberate through your body as you dreamily smiled up at him, making eye contact the best you could while reclining to rest your head on his shoulder, speaking just barely above a whisper, “I love you too.” Just like that, you fell asleep, leaving Ryan awake to process what the hell just happened to him.
You were still soundly asleep when the man you were snuggled up against blinked his eyes open, rolling over to face the warmth behind him. “W-what…dude!” Ryan whisper-yelled, “Get out!” Bam simply threw his arm over him, murmuring while half asleep, “Go back’t sleep…”

brilliant (like a confession)
By kathkin on AO3
After knowing Clark Kent for eight years, Lois finally realizes she is in love with him. She obviously can't go to Clark about this situation, so she goes to the only other decent man she knows to seek advice from: Superman. Clark decides he cannot play this charade in front of her for any longer.
I love this fic for so many reasons. Clark Kent and Lois Lane are my favorite couple of all time and I think the description of Lois' feelings in this fic are so spot on. Lois knows Clark was in love with her when they first met, but assumes that he had simply gotten over it after so much time. She's wrong. I'm gonna include two of my favorite moments from it. The first is when she first realizes she's in love with him:
It’s hard to stay cynical in the face of Clark Kent and his relentless optimism. Looking at him there, still in his button up shirt from his business trip, sleeves rolled up, still focused even though it’s pushing midnight, she feels a warm, steady wave of fondness in her chest.
She wishes they could do this every night. Not the pulling a furious all-nighter right after someone tried to murder her – that part she could take or leave. But it would be nice to spend every evening with Clark. She’d always told herself she liked her space, but being with Clark was like having space and having company rolled into one.
It would be nice to have dinner with him every night. To just – come home with him every night, and eat dinner, and wash the dishes and watch TV together. It would be nice to have him in her life, all the time.
Then her highly caffeinated, sleep-deprived brain catches up with the implications of that thought process, and she thinks, shit.
Oh, not now. She can’t deal with this right now. She’s had enough drama for one day. She’s in the middle of a story and she doesn’t have the time or the space or the emotional energy or the – anything to deal with –
My second favorite moment is when Clark tells Lois he's Superman, and you can see Lois' thought process and emotions shift when she starts looking at things from his perspective:
She’s thought before, that Superman must be lonely. He’s gotta be, right? It’s lonely at the top. That’s what they say. He’s the only one of his kind on earth. The only one in the whole universe, maybe.
It’s one thing to think about that loneliness in an abstract way – to picture him alone in his ice palace, doing whatever it is he does when he’s not being a hero. It’s another thing to be confronted with the raw and immediate reality of that loneliness.
To spend eight years – longer, maybe – not letting your guard down, not even letting anyone hear your real voice. To be afraid to even touch anyone, in case you broke them. How did a person live like that.
The thing was – there were a lot of different directions you could look at this conversation from. She’s been turning and turning it over in her head for coming up on twenty-four hours and she’s still not sure she’s seen them all.
There’s Clark Kent is Superman but also Superman is Clark Kent, which in spite of sounding the same on paper were entirely different experiences, emotionally speaking. There was Clark Kent is an alien; there was Superman lives in a shitty apartment in south Metropolis and works as a reporter, which was a real blow-your-mind realisation. Superman once watched me throw up – god, what a mortifying thought.
Clark Kent had dropped everything and flown from LA to Metropolis to keep her safe. He’d flown three thousand miles to catch her in his arms.
Superman had come to her apartment with dinner to make sure she was okay. Superman had sat up with her for hours, while she was stressed out over her work and more rattled by the near death experience than she’d been willing to let on.
Now that she thought about it, this wasn’t the first time some version of this particular series of events had played out. She remembers a night – early on, maybe a year or two in – after that first incident with Brainiac. He’d sat with her till the sun came up, till her hands had stopped shaking – he’d politely pretended not to notice, that her hands were shaking. They’d watched a movie. She doesn’t remember which movie.
He's always been there.
Something about Lois realizing that Clark has always been there for her when it counts tickles my brain. I also love how the whole idea of being Superman makes him kind of lonely. In this fic, he has two different voices for Clark and Superman, yet none of them are his natural voice. Superman's voice is strong and commanding while Clark's is quite and unassuming. Lois notices this and realizes that Clark/Superman has literally been acting brave half the time and acting weak the other half of the time when he truly feels like he is somewhere in between. Also the short story of Lois being so traumatized by some early event with Brainiac that she spends an entire night physically shaking, and Clark is there for her, treating her like a normal person and only wants for her to feel better is so incredible and so telling of who he is as a person, and how much he cares for her.
Anyway, read this if you haven't yet. It's brilliant.

So today I had my first ever lumbar puncture (also commonly known as a spinal tap), because my new neurologist is a dick and doesn’t believe my old neurologist that I have MS in spite of everything that points to that being the case (seriously, if you knew this disease and then heard all my symptoms, it would be hard to say “nah, doesn’t sound like MS).
Anyway, so. We had to be at the hospital at 7:45am, so I woke up at 7 to take my anxiety medicine because I knew otherwise I’d be a panicky mess. I had been chugging Powerade since the night before, because the biggest tip I had gotten from other MSers who had done it before was that.
We checked in and were taken to the radiology waiting room. Thankfully we didn’t have to wait long before they called my name. We were taken to what looked like an operating room which was intimidating. Sir got to be in the room with me while the nurse went over exactly what was going to happen and I asked any questions. Once the doc came in though, he had to leave (which was fine with him as he didn’t want to see that part anyway - he gets squicky about needles).
They pulled my shirt up and pants down and cleaned the whole area with the orange stuff (iodine I think?). I asked them to tell me what was happening each step of the way since I couldn’t see anything. (I wish I had a mirror, cuz it makes me way less anxious if I can see what is going on).
They started out telling me everything going on, but partway through I think they just got really focused and forgot, lol. Anyway they said “ok now you’ll feel a sharp pinch” and I knew from what the nurse had told me that that was going to be the lidocaine to numb the area. The sharp pinch part was ok, but as it moved around to get more areas it hit some really painful parts that made me audibly like squeal. It wasn’t awful though, y’all know me - I’ve had worse, on purpose. 😉
This is where they stopped talking to me. At some point in here they started the actual procedure but I have no idea when because after the lidocaine nothing felt any different at all. I only even knew that they had started because at some point I heard “Third vial done. You did a great job hydrating.” I’m wondering if they just kept the same needle they had in for the lidocaine to do the actual procedure or if I really was so numb that I didn’t feel the new needle go in, or what. I thought it would take a bit for the lidocaine to kick in which is why I didn’t think it had started yet. Seriously guys, it was super fast.
After the fourth vial it was over. They cleaned up my back as best they could and put a bandaid on the spot they poked me (after such a scary procedure going into your spine, you’d think you’d get more than a little bandaid, but nope!). Then since they needed the room right away, they took me to one of the little dressing rooms to wait for the blood draw I needed to have done along with the lumbar puncture.
I laid on the little wooden bench in there, my legs up on the wall. The biggest risk after a lumbar puncture is the worst headache you can imagine, and the best way to prevent this (besides being very well hydrated) is to lay on your back as long as you can after the procedure. So that’s how they found me when they came to draw my blood.
She came in and was like “oh, do you have a headache?” all concerned. I was like no, not yet, just doing everything I can to prevent one (seriously guys, from what I’ve read it’s completely debilitating, and can last for weeks with no reprieve. I really really didn’t/dont want this headache). So I sat up and she drew my blood (I can’t remember the last time I had only one vial of blood drawn, hehe). Then I met back up with hubby and we went on our merry little way.
We got coffee on the way home, because caffeine is another thing they say can help prevent the headache (even the nurse suggested it, and I’m not gonna turn down an excuse for yummy warm coffee on a cold day). Sir also got 2 gingerbread scones. I don’t like scones, but I love gingerbread stuff, so I asked to try a bite, and it was so yummy that he let me have one of his. He’s such a sweetheart. Love you @postal-raccoon , you take such good care of me.
Got home, lazily finished my coffee and scone on the couch while Sir rested, and then once he left for work I went to bed. My body refuses to allow me to sleep on my back, so I disobeyed that part of the suggestion, but I laid down, so I call it close enough. I slept like the dead (thank you Xanax) until almost 6pm (I didn’t set an alarm cuz the more sleep the better I figured). Woke up feeling great. No headache yet!
Usually the results for this take a bit to come back. Up to like 2 weeks. So just waiting on that nervously. *I* know I have MS, the symptoms and how they’ve accumulated and the lesions on my brain all scream MS. But the lumbar puncture - even in people with MS - can come back clean. So I’m nervous that will happen to me so my new neuro will dismiss me as not having it. If that happens, I’ll have to go to Portland to get a second opinion, and until we move closer to Portland that’s a really long drive for a doctor appointment. So I’m really hoping it shows what I already know - that I of course have MS. Keep me in your thoughts (and prayers if that’s your cup of tea) over the next couple weeks please.
Love y’all!!

College Dirtbags
pairing — collegeau!jeongin x f!reader
word count — 1.3k
warnings — she/her reader, friends 2 lovers, suggestive themes, FLUFFFF, mentions of alcohol, mentions of vomit, lemme know if I missed anything
summary — Y/n and Jeongin have always liked each other since their first year at uni. It's so obvious it hurts to watch. After a crazy party together, embarrassing videos get revealed the next morning that finally breaks that barrier of friends.
11:30 pm
"Stop, what the fuck is that?" Your mouth hung open. "This has gotta be fake."
"It's very real to me," your friend blurted out, laughing. "You were crazy last night."
You grabbed her phone and replayed the video. The party lights were all over the place, making it tough to see, but there you were—Jeongin and you, eating each other's face. You vaguely remembered some flirty moments with him, but seeing it on video was a whole different story.
Since your freshman year at university, Jeongin had been your crush. You ended up in the same friend group and got pretty tight over the years. You wouldn't call it tension between you, but your connection was different from the rest of your friends. In big groups, you'd exchange glances and have these one-on-one conversations in the group chat which would often annoy your friends. It was kind of hard to explain.
Your friend group, about six of you, usually went to frat parties and nightclubs. And here's the thing—Jeongin and you were always the DDs. Not because you were pussies who didn't drink, but because you didn't trust anyone else to handle it. You learned the hard way that leaving the keys with someone else could turn into a disaster. One time, during your first year, someone else assured you that he was gonna be your sober driver, and things went into shit. He convinced you that he had his license when you would probably drive better than him while being drunk. In the end, you got stopped by the cops, and they quickly found out you had been underage drinking.
However, last night was different. One of your friends had some health thing going on, and he was on some prescribed medication for the next couple of weeks. You forgot the whole story, but the deal was, he couldn't touch alcohol or caffeine, or it would mess with the effect of the pills or something. This guy was older, always reliable, and he'd driven you around plenty of times. So, without a second thought, you put him in charge, trusting him to be the driver for the night, giving Jeongin and you the chance to finally kick back and have some fun.
The party got you completely wasted, and Jeongin was no different. So here you are, with a steaming bowl of hangover soup, leaning against your best friend's shoulder, and subjecting yourself to the videos from last night.
"Wait, look at this one," she snorted.
"Oh no, what is it?" You braced yourself.
You glanced at the screen and cringed as you witnessed Jeongin and you going at it in the back seat of a moving car. He pushed you away, scrambled to the front, rolled down the window to throw up, then nonchalantly rolled it back up and resumed making out with you. Your hand instinctively flew to your mouth as you fake gagged.
"My gosh. He shoved that tongue down my throat right after he puked? This is not funny anymore," you stood up, took your empty bowl to the sink, and returned to your friend on the couch.
"Oh, come on, Y/n. You're missing the point here." She said with a chuckle when you raised your eyebrow. "He sees you the same way. You two basically exposed your feelings to each other."
You rolled your eyes, not fully grasping the gravity of the situation. "Exposed? More like embarrassed ourselves. And plus, he was drunk!"
"Well he wasn't drunk enough to be clueless of who he was kissing." Your friend chuckled, shaking her head. "Look, maybe it's not the most romantic way to figure things out, but it's out in the open now. You both let your guards down last night, and honestly, it's kinda cute."
"Cute?" You scoffed, still cringing at the mental image of Jeongin and you in the back seat of a moving car.
"Yeah, cute. I mean, I think about it, he didn't stop after puking, did he? If anything, he came back for more," she teased.
You sighed, realizing there might be a silver lining in all the chaos. "I guess, but what if things get weird between us now?"
"Hey, if anything, it's a sign that there's something there. Maybe just talk to Jeongin about it, you know? Not under the influence of alcohol. And definitely not in our group chat where everyone can see it."
You scoffed and nodded, considering her words. "I guess."
"Text him now," she suggested, a mischievous glint in her eyes.
"I don't know," you whined, your voice muffled as you stuffed your face into a pillow and flopped onto her lap.
She chuckled, patting your head. "Come on, Y/n. The longer you wait, the more awkward it'll get. Just shoot him a casual text, talk about last night."
You sighed, lifting your face from the pillow. "What if he doesn't remember everything, and I end up making it even more awkward?"
"Then at least you'll find out where he stands," she said, giving you a reassuring smile. "Trust me, it's better to know than to be stuck wondering."
With a reluctant nod, you reached for your phone, fingers hovering over the keyboard. After a contemplative moment, you began crafting a message: "Hey, Jeongin. There's some stuff we should talk about. How about grabbing coffee later?"
You glanced up at your friend for approval, hoping this struck the right balance between casual and intriguing. However, she shook her head, a playful smirk on her face. "Don't be so dry with him. It's like you're warning him of rejection!" You sighed, taking her advice to heart. "Just be you."
You looked at her, a bit confused, before slowly nodding and diving back into your phone. "Jeongin! Did Felix show you the videos from last night? I can't believe that happened. What are you up to today? Wanna meet up?"
You showed it to her again, and she took your phone, making a sly adjustment before sending it off without warning you.
"Hey!" You grabbed your phone back and looked at the screen.
She had changed "Wanna meet up?" to "I want to see you."
You rolled your eyes but couldn't help but grin. "Subtle, very subtle."
She winked. "Sometimes you've got to be a little direct. Let's see how he responds to that."
Minutes later, your phone buzzed with a new message from him.
"Hey, Y/n! Felix blew up my phone this morning. I'm free for lunch, want to go to the market?"
You couldn't help but laugh at his response. It seemed like your friend's subtle change hadn't gone unnoticed.
"Sure, that sounds good!" You quickly replied, feeling a mix of excitement and nerves about your impending conversation.
As you made plans to meet up, you couldn't shake the thought that maybe being a bit more direct wasn't such a bad thing.
Later that day, you found yourself strolling through a vibrant food market with Jeongin, the tantalizing aroma of various street foods filling the air. The atmosphere was relaxed, and the lively chatter of other market-goers provided a comforting backdrop to your conversation. It was a surreal moment, acknowledging the unspoken feelings that had lingered between you for so long. The chaotic events of the night seemed to have paved the way for a conversation you both needed.
Jeongin looked at you with a thoughtful expression. "You know I've always liked being with you."
You nodded, "Yea, there's been this thing going on between us for years."
He chuckled. "Maybe it just took a wild night and some embarrassing videos to finally bring it to the surface."
You turned your head towards him. "I'm glad it did. It feels right, doesn't it?"
"I wouldn't change a thing." He gently bumped his shoulder against yours. "So, what now?"
You smiled, feeling a sense of newfound clarity. "I think we should see where this takes us."
He nodded in agreement and threw his arm over your shoulders, planting a kiss on your head.
"I can't believe you made me taste your vomit," you teased.
"You're lucky I didn't throw up in your mouth," he countered, a playful glint in his eyes.
You both burst into laughter, the shared humor easing any lingering awkwardness. As you meandered through the market, the playful banter continued, weaving a comfortable atmosphere between you. The crowded stalls, colorful displays, and enticing aromas provided the perfect backdrop for a moment of connection.

That’s illogical! Senku Ishigami x Reader
Hello girlypops! I wanted to write again so this is what I came up with. It’s a little long but I hope you enjoy. This is technically in Dr Stone 4d science but it doesn’t really have anything to do with the story. Anyway I hope you like it! Also, friendly reminder that requests are open!
Thats’s illogical! Senku x reader
It’s late at night when Senku finally leaves the lab. He’s exhausted, and he doesn’t think he has the energy to drive home. As he’s walking towards his car, he notices the coffee shop across from the lab. They can’t still be open, right? Despite for some caffeine, he walks over to the café.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You finish sweeping the lobby of the coffee shop. Sighing you look at the time. “One minute left until closing.” You stretch as you go to the back to put up the broom. As you take a quick breather you hear the bell to the door. Are you serious? You go back to the front and put on a fake smile. “Welcome in! Is there anything I can help you with tonight?” As you look at the customer, you immediately know who it is. There’s no way…it can’t really be… “Oh thanks. You’re not about to close right? I can leave if you need-“ “I’m Senku Ishigami…” Senku’s eyebrow raises. “What?” You fast instantly turns red. “No! I mean y-you’re Senku Ishigami… im just, it doesn’t matter….h-how can I help you??” Senku stares at you awkwardly, but tells you his order anyway. He tries to hand you some cash but you tell him it’s on the house. “I-I already counted the till for tonight anyway…” He simply shrugs and sits in a booth, waiting for his drink. Your mind blanks as you try to remember how to make the drink. You’re so scared about your idol being right behind you that you mess up once or twice. “H-here you go…” Senku gets up and grabs it from you, telling you his thanks. He heads towards the door when you call out to him. “Y-you can stay! I-if you want!” He turns back. “But aren’t you closed?” You blush a little more, “yeah but…it’s ok if you wanna stay a little longer…” This causes Senku to blush. He doesn’t know why, but your shyness makes his heartbeat a little faster. “Sure, why not? I still have a few papers I can work on.” He takes a seat back in the booth and pulls out some work. You softly smile and begin cleaning the blenders, happy you he can be here longer.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“So, are you a scientist too?” Senku questions after 20 minutes of silence. You weren’t expecting him to strike a conversation, but you nod anyway. “I guess you could say that, but I don’t focus on chemistry and things along those lines. I’m more into biology, especially in marine life.” Senku smiles at your statement. “Interesting. I havent met a lot of marine biologist.” You blush a little more, happy that he acknowledged you as a real biologist. “Y’know we’re doing something with marine life in the lab.” You chuckle. “I read your paper about it. Using squid ink and turning it to fuel.” “So, you really are a fan?” He teases. Embarrassed, you turn away and finish putting away the remaining food. “C-can I show you something..?” Senku finishes the remainder of his drink and nods. “Sure, why not?” You go to the back and bring back a chunky sketchbook. You sit next to him and show him all the notes and pictures of marine animals and ecosystems. Each little page was full of color and writing. Senku smiles and giggles. “This looks really good! You know your stuff huh?” You smile. “Can I tell you my opinion on your paper?” He nods. “It’s all I wanna hear.” You talk with him for what feels like forever, first it was about the paper, then about each others day, then about anything else that came to each of your minds. After a while, you hear you phone ring. “Crap! I didn’t realize it was this late!” Quickly picking up everything you and Senku walk out together. “Well, that was fun. You’re nice to hang out with. What’s your name by the way?” “(Y/n). (Y/n) (L/n)!” “Well, I hope to see you around Dr. (Y/n).” As he walks, you call him one last time. “I-if you want, you can borrow this.” You hand him your sketchbook. He smiles even wider. “Thanks (y/n). I’ll be sure to bring it back!”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The next day, Senku sits in his lab chair, flipping through the sketchbook you lent him. He smiles at the little comments and doodles you made, laughing slightly at the random, goofy facts here and there. “Senku, did you get my email about- what’re you reading?” Xeno pops in, looking at the sketchbook. “Oh, they’re notes about marine life.” Xeno looks through the sketchbook, noticing the handwriting and drawings. “This looks like (y/n)’s book.” Xeno points out. Senku shoots him a confused look. “You know (y/n)??” Xeno laughs. “Yeah, I met her at a science competition, she was the winner with her study on stingrays.” Senku doesn’t know how to respond, he just scoffs and continues flipping through the book. This makes xeno laugh again. “What? You’re mad because I know her? Or are you being possessive?” Senku chuckles. “That’s illogical! Why would I care who she talks to? Besides it’s not like I’m her boyfriend or anything!” This peaks Xeno’s interest. “But do you want to be?” Senku’s face reddens. “T-that’s even more illogical! I just met her yesterday! It doesn’t make any sense, being in a relationship doesn’t make any sense!” He looks down at the book again, trying to hide his red face. This makes Xeno laugh even more as he walks out. “If it matters Senku, she loves to go to the aquarium, and I heard there’s gonna be an exhibit on octopi this weekend, if you’re interested.” Xeno leaves, leaving senku alone. “Tch, like I care…” He goes to his latest experiment trying to focus. But, he can’t shake your smile out of his head. “Ugh! If she wants to see the exhibit then why not? It’s not like I’m doing it cause I wanna spend time with her, it’s just so I can learn more! It’ll help my research too!” Senku claims to himself. Xeno watches Senku walk out flustered, hearing everything he just said. “Heh, whatever you say Senku…”
Kaede: Oh right, I do remember you guys talking about goats when we were at the cafe earlier. So that’s what that was about Nanaki-kun.
Nanaki: Huh!? A-Akuta, you…!
Nanaki: Could you stop doing that!?
Don’t misunderstand, it’s nothing like that!
This guy is just babbling about random shit…! Isn’t that right, Akuta!?
Akuta: Ug ! Gh… Guh…!
Sakujiro: W-What a magnificent chokehold…! As beautiful as it is, that is very dangerous! Stop that at once!
Nanaki: It’s fine, I’m gonna let him go as soon as we leave the room…! Well excuse us, goodnight! C’mon, Kinugawa-kun, you too!
Kiroku: ! Ah, Y-Yeah…!
Sakujiro: Please wait a moment! Where on earth did you learn such a magnificent move?! Did you have a master? Where did you hone your skills atーー!
Kaede: Sakujiro-san! We should leave them alone!
Sakujiro: But…!
Kaede: Teenagers need to keep a lot of things a secret…!
Ushio: Ha… Tea that you drink before you go to sleep is always really delicious. Caffeine is really good at making your nervous system calm down.
Muneuji: Look, isn’t the moon pretty at night? It’s shiny very brightly.
Ushio: …It’s bright. Almost glaringly so. It’s enough to be blinding.
Nanaki: Hah, hah…! Shit…
Akuta: Aghhh~~~ I swear I just saw someone on the other side of the river saying “Come over~”!
Ushio: Y’know… It’s pretty shameful as a human being to just go barging into someone’s room without even knocking. Do you have some sorta explanation?
Nanaki: ーーI think they might’ve seen it.
Ushio: Hah?
Nanaki: The egg.
Muneuji: Who did?
Nanaki: Chief and… Saku-chan-sensei[2].
Ushio: Hah!?
Muneuji: Calm down, Ushio.
It’d be wrong to get upset at Nanamegi and the others.
More importantly, is the egg safe?
Akuta: Ah, yeah it’s probably all good. It fell on the ground, but when I was putting it back in the bag it seemed fine.
Muneuji: I understand.
I’ll check it again to be safe.
Nanaki: … The countdown is going down like it usually is.
Akuta: About that, we still don’t know what the countdown’s even about right? It’s even out of sync with the seconds on regular clocks〜
Kiroku: …… One count is… around 3.5 seconds… later.
Muneuji: Is it going to break when it reaches zero?
Ushio: Then what? Do you think it’s gonna go boom like in the old building?
Nanaki: …I knew we shouldn’t have brought it with us. We should’ve just left it at the old building.
Ushio: What’s the point of saying that now? We brought it with us, so it doesn’t matter what you claim we should’ve done now.
Nanaki: You already know I’ve been against keeping it, ever since the beginning.
Kiroku: ………
Ushio: Then start acting like it. If you really were against bringing it, why didn’t you tell a teacher about it?
Oh right, you just don’t want the adults to start digging into the reason you were there that day. You didn’t mention the egg because you wanted to get out of questioning, didn’t you?
Nanaki: ………
Akuta: Don’t start fighting about it now~ We’re all in the same boat, aren’t we? Let’s just get along!
Nanaki: We weren’t really fighting. Kurama-kun’s sarcasm is just adding heat to the flames. That’s all.
Akuta: By the way, I’m all OK for keeping the egg with us. ‘Cuz, if we do, we might be able to see another explosion right?
Then I can record Hollywood-level footage of an explosion without having to spend a single cent! It’s way too good of a chance to pass up!
Nanaki: I’m still on the side for throwing the egg away.
Kiroku: ………
Ushio: Huuh. Are you thinking the same thing, Kinugawa?
Isn’t that nice? Dovish[3] people like you are happy as long as you get to sit on the sidelines and pick flowers.
Kiroku: …Dove…
Muneuji: Dovish means being passive. The opposite would be a hawkish person, who’s more aggressive.
Nanaki: We’re all in agreement that this egg, or maybe another similar egg that was in the classroom, caused that explosion.
And now there’s a countdown that continues to go down.
I’m trying to say that this isn’t something we can just solve ourselves. Before something else happens, we shouldーー
Ushio: What, you think that we should throw away this unknown object while we’re on a trip?
Nanaki: That’s a stretch.
Ushio: Not really. I mean, we can’t tell any of the adults about it.
The only way to keep things from getting worse for us is to get rid of it while we still can. That’s what the two dovish people over there think, isn’t it?
Nanaki: ………
Kiroku: …………
Ushio: Hah… would you stop making faces at me like you disagree with what I said?
I’m just stating my opinion from an observation I made.
… Okay then, should we handle this like a democracy and hold a majority vote?
I’m against throwing the egg away. So is Idiotake.
‘Kay, that’s two votes〜
Muneuji: I’m against throwing it away too. I don’t want to let something like this go.
… Because, this could be the clue we’ve been waiting for. Something that could be proof that aliens exist.
Therefore, I’d like to keep it with us at all times. I was the one who brought the egg with us out of the old building as well.
I’m sorry.
Nanaki: Kaguya-kun’s reasoning… Well, I think it makes sense. But, what’s your reason for wanting to keep the egg, Kurama-kun? I want to hear it.
Ushio: Because it seems interesting. And it can also be used as a weapon to take out people that piss me off. Do I need any other reason?
Nanaki: …… I’m at a loss for words.
Akuta: NOW NOW NOW GUYS! Let’s stop talking about that now!
That means that the votes are 3 to 2 in favor of keeping the egg!
Kiroku: ………
Akuta: I mean, we’re the ones who found the egg.
If you think about it a different wayーー
Maybe it wanted us to find it.
Like a scriptwriter giving a key item to the main character and telling them to “Use this and destroy those guys!”
So that means, we were chosen to be the protagonists.
This egg is tryna tell us that we’re different from everyone else.
It’s proof that we’re special.
That’s why it’s only natural that we should wait until this story ends.
All 4: ……
Nanaki: … Fine, I get it.
Based on the counter, it doesn’t even look like it’s going to hit zero yet. We still have some timeーー
So for now, we’ll keep taking turns and passing around the egg to each other.
… Okay, next person.
Kiroku: …… Keep.
Akuta: YAAAAHOOOOOOOOOIII! Then! It’s the same as before!
Okay, like we’ve said, if anything happens, we’ll talk to each other on the walkie talkie app.
Nanaki: If Chief or Saku-chan-sensei asked about it, how should we answer them?
Ushio: Isn’t it obvious? Play dumb.
That’s why we’re doing the whole coparenting an egg thing anyways.
Nanaki: … Got it.
Muneuji: We’ve settled the matter now. …By the way.
Everyone, how are you feeling about your assignments for the summer festival?
Nanaki: For me…… I guess I'm feeling a bit motivated?
Muneuji: ? You look more happy than usual.
Nanaki: I’m an average amount of happy.
Muneuji: What about you, Isotake?
Akuta: You don’t gotta worry about it right now. It’s too early to panic.
Ushio: Idiotake is filming, so he only has to worry about it on the day of. Of course he isn’t panicking.
BTW, I can’t do my part. I’m just not gonna do it. There’s just not enough time for preparation for the main eventーー
Muneuji: Ushio won’t be an issue. Next.
Ushio: Wah~ Forced labor~
Muneuji: How is it going for you, Kinugawa?
Kiroku: Ah……… Um.
Akuta: If it’s Kiroku, there’s no problems here!
‘Cuz this guy is a super amazing artist!
Kiroku: ………
Akuta: I’m sure he’s gonna draw SUPER amazing shit, so amazing that he’s gonna make all of mankind drop to their knees in awe of his amazing lantern art! You can count on him. Amazing.
Kiroku: ……That’s……
Akuta: If that’s the case, then I’m relieved. Well then, I’m going to brush my teeth and get ready for bed in the bathroom.
Akuta: Me too〜!
Kiroku: ………
Ushio: “Amazing” he says, but don’t you just have to paint a normal design over and over again? It’s like it’s a job for AI.
Kiroku: …………
Ushio: … Hellooo?
Kiroku: ………………
Ushio: Can you hear me?
Kiroku: ………………
Ushio: Y’know, I’ve been wanting to ask you this for a while.
Kiroku: Uh………
Ushio: Do you always act like that?
Kiroku: ……! That’s…………
Ushio: ……
Kiroku: …………
Ushio: Hah… Whatever. Forget about it.
Kiroku: …………
Pretty sure the title is a reference to Stranger Things! If you’ve never watched it before, The Upside Down is the name used to describe a mysterious alternate dimension existing in parallel to the human world.
I’m sure you can tell, but Saku-chan-sensei is Sakujiro! Not sure why Nanaki calls him this but well . he does.
Hawkish and dovish are used to describe how you respond an opinion ( usually politically ). Hawkish being a more aggressive / forceful approach to something as opposed to dovish which is a peaceful and passive approach. As an example, let’s say you want the last piece of cake. A dovish approach would be to ask and make sure no one else wants it before you take it, while a hawkish approach would be to just take it. Hopefully that makes sense!
Magicians Don't Need Superheros Pt33
First: Link Prev: Link Next: Link
----------
Marvin chewed his cheek as he read over the texts again, having doubts about the newest plan for dealing with the Iplier. He wanted to spend more time studying chaos magic but Chase was getting antsy about the Ego running around without being watched over. Marvin was sure if the whole ‘red eyes incident’ didn’t happen, he wouldn’t be as worried about time.
“I still don’t know how to feel about this,” Jackie muttered, chewing on his nails. “He’s, like, magic and stuff. Wouldn’t he notice a tracker on him?”
“It’s a device made with nothing magical attached to it.” Marvin didn’t look away from his phone as he lowered Jackie’s arm to get him to stop chewing. “The only reason he’d try to find it is if he’s suspicious. I still don’t know how Mad made something so small.”
“Did you ever catch what Anti traded Mad for the tracker?” Jackie rocked between his feet, sticking his hands into his hoodie’s pockets to prevent himself from gnawing on them more.
“Nope. But knowing them it’s either something to do with sugar and caffeine or fire.”
“Maybe we’ll get lucky and he’ll agree to come with us? We won’t have to worry about the tracker at all if he does that.”
“Maybe.” Marvin sighed and put his phone away. “If we weren’t looking for this Iplier, I’d be enjoying this view more.” He commented as he looked out.
They were standing on top of a fairly tall grass hill, the view Marvin spoke of was mostly of trees but the change in weather made them look beautiful with their hues of red, orange, and yellow. The sun was beginning to set and the sky was giving off matching shades.
“Sunset really is a lovely time of day.”
“It does look super pretty.” Jackie agreed.
“Imagine having a picnic up here.” Marvin had a softness in his eyes. “Sitting on a blanket, a little basket of snacks, sipping champagne, and watching as the sun leaves and the stars begin to shine. Then a cold breeze would come in and you’d cuddle under another blanket to bathe in the moon’s light for as long as possible.”
“That sounds nice.” Jackie found himself looking at Marvin and smiling. It really did. A date that didn’t end in disaster sounded like a miracle. Marvin also seemed to be very happy at the thought as well. “Maybe-”
“There he is.” Marvin had turned to listen to what Jackie was going to say, but he saw the Iplier making his way down the path over his shoulder. “Remember the plan?”
“Yep!” Jackie popped his lips, forgetting what he was going to say and getting into hero mode.
“Time to pretend I don’t want to kick him between the legs,” Marvin muttered to himself before taking a deep breath and walking with Jackie over to the Iplier.
“Oh, great. It’s you two again.” The Iplier scoffed with an eye roll.
“We just want to help,” Jackie said.
“You can help by leaving me alone.”
“Fun fact, that’s not going to be happening,” Marvin stated, going the very blunt route. “You’re part of this weird Ego thing. You’re an Iplier. The Manor is waiting for you. The sooner you follow us to said Manor, the sooner we’re out of your hair.”
“You’re not funny.” The Iplier started walking again and huffed when Marvin and Jackie blocked him. “We are going to have another incident if you two do not move.”
“Just come with us and all of the details will get filled in. You’re not going to last out here.”
“Not going to last? Do you have any idea who I am?” The Iplier sounded beyond offended.
“It doesn’t matter who we think you are or who you remember you were, it doesn’t affect where we are right now. Trust me, I’ve learned this the hard way and I am still learning.” Marvin could see out of the corner of his eye that Jackie had his hand prepped with the tracker, the curving of his palm giving it away.
“Don’t put us on the same level.” The Iplier began walking again and this time it was only Marvin stopping him.
“We’re not about to make this into a measuring contest. You can do that plenty with some of the other Ipliers. There’s one in particular I have in mind you’d have a fun time dealing with and I would love to watch that show.”
“Stop calling me an Iplier.”
“The more you hear it, the easier it is to accept.”
“Sure.” The Iplier was once again trying to leave, pushing Marvin’s shoulder to make him turn. Marvin grunted to himself in annoyance, wondering how in the world Jackie put up with him for so long. He grabbed the back of the Iplier’s jacket and yanked. “Enough!” The Iplier snapped and turned. Marvin got to see his face better and noticed the sharp spiral around his eye was beginning to glow. He was prepared to get hit with the same spell from before but Jackie slipped between them.
“It gets like really scary out here on your own,” Jackie said, hands on the Iplier’s shoulders.
“You should worry more about yourself.” The Iplier stated, putting both hands on Jackie’s chest.
“Aw, man.” Jackie recognized the glowing on the hands and a moment later, he was launched backward. His body slammed into Marvin and sent both of them tumbling down the hill. Marvin had a creative line of curses as they went while Jackie just…yelled.
Marvin landed at the bottom of the hill first on his back and half a breath later Jackie flopped on top of him. The crunching of the leaves was loud when it was right under one’s head and Marvin already felt a headache knocking at the front of his brain. Jackie had a feeling some leaves got under his hoodie with the sound and texture against his body.
“You okay?” Jackie asked with a grunt, basically doing a pushup to move himself away from Marvin.
“Peachy,” Marvin grumbled.
“I have some good news at least.” Jackie gave a weak smile. “I got the tracker on him.”
“Good boy.” Marvin lightly chuckled, patting the top of Jackie’s head and not noticing the tint of pink on the other’s face as he started sitting up. “We should get back and fill the others in.”
“Y-Yeah. We-We-uh--We should.” Jackie stammered and scrambled to his feet.
“I swear that Iplier has a personal vendetta against my hair,” Marvin sighed, pulling a leaf out of his bangs.
“We can use it as an excuse to steal Henrik’s hair mask again,” Jackie suggested after clearing his throat and offering a hand to Marvin.
“That sounds fun.” Marvin took the hand and stood up. “And we’re both covered in leaves.” He added as he plucked a leaf off Jackie’s sleeve.
“You’re telling me.” Jackie held the bottom of his hoodie and shook it, some pieces of leaves falling out of it.
“Better than red-eyes.”
“Much better.”
