2024 —my year in writing

last year, i wrote more than i ever have like literally in my whole life. this year i beat my record by about 200k words. i am writing A LOT and it’s all because of you.

yes, you, reading this now. anyone who kudos’d or commented or liked or reblogged anything i wrote, and followed me here and on ao3, and ranted in my dms and added me to servers. you, reading the weird things i write, the things i can only write and only i can write, seeing it and liking it and coming back again and again for more. thank you :)

so here’s my 2024 summary:

my favorite fics:

real world (stardew valley) - a story about parenthood and roads not taken. genuinely the most important story to me, a diary entry as much as fanfic

pilgrimage (bg3) - a story about two people without a past as they work toward an even more uncertain future. i also have no past because of a strange upbringing so this story is kinda personal to me even though it’s about a cleric and a vampire

novel (hades) - a story about looking for adventure and finding love and family instead. i had so much fun writing this and posted weekly without pre-writing which was a challenge but it all worked out

patchwork self (datv) - a story about finding pieces of your brother in yourself. i wrote a lot of structured fic this year and i think this one flowed the easiest and was the most precise in how it delivered the message i was trying to get across, also it’s gen which i never write

my most written pairing: thanzag with 11 stories! not surprising since ive spent most of the year humiliating myself over thanatos

my most used tags: romance, introspection, character study

what i learned: i learned above all to trust myself! this year i wrote and completed three multi chapter fics that i didn’t prewrite and posted week by week until it was done. i’ve never been able to do that before but this year i just did it and didn’t overthink it, and i trusted that i could finish the stories and i did lol i can do anything i think i just have to trust myself a little

what i want to write next year: i would like very much to write something original, i have a loose idea so i just need to sit down and write so my goal is really small and simple, hopefully i don’t let myself down

I feel like, after posting some critical things about the new Xaden POV bonus chapter, I should be positive for a second and say that I did like it. The romance was fun, I love Xaden being a total obsessed lover boy, and anything with Liam gets 5 gold stars!

But I don’t think we should accept half-assed work that feels sloppy just because. We as fans spend lots of money, time, and energy supporting the author and creating the community we have. We do it because we love it, yes, but we are allowed to expect that the author and publisher respect us and our support by giving us quality work��especially when they’re making money from it.

I also think that criticism and discussion surrounding any sort of art is valid and necessary, so long as it’s done respectfully. I’ve jokingly said before that really I’m just a hater, but the time I spend engaging in discussion with other fans and thinking critically about a work (about this work, specifically) is what fuels me to create and be part of this fandom. My fanfic literally would not exist if I wasn’t critical of the Empyrean. It also wouldn’t exist if I didn’t love it. I promise both of those things are true all the time 🫶🏻

hi folks! this post will be kind of ramble-y but here's the situation: I am burnt out. I've been posting fics & fic updates at least twice a week since mid-January and it has started stressing me out more than getting me to have fun, which is the goal of hobby. I've been fixating on churning out chapters instead of enjoying the writing process and have, in the process, have basically turned myself into a content creator. and that sucks! so I'm not going to do that anymore, or at least I won't for a while. I will still be posting!! I just won't be planning to do it as often. for now I'll set Wednesdays as my planned posting day and then might occasionally post something unplanned if I'm excited to share something I've written. sorry for anyone who's been excited for whatever might come next month! there will definitely be things being published, just not as many 😭

I binged this webtoon today and yesterday and it's rly good i like it sm... "your wings and mine"

I didnt know what to expect going in(i keep my hopes low tbh) but I kept getting impressed w the writing... it's rly funny but also surprisingly emotional, it has me laughing out loud 1 moment and then crying the next and then laughing my ass off again... there's a lot of silliness but the serious moments don't feel out of place or cheesy at all bc they did such a good job of building the charas up to that point... and the genuine and heartfelt exchanges btwn the charas are simple but surprisingly feel fresh? like the writer was lowkey galaxy braining writing these kcdnfj And they actually did such a good job w the slow burn romance, it's so sweet and cute and fun to watch grow... 😭 i'm caught up now and im sad i need more
