Idk about anyone else but it’s interesting to me that a con for Outlander is doing the same thing that Creation Entertainment does with the two leads of Supernatural, Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles. Any other cast member that attends the con as a guest with them has more reasonable prices for photo ops and Q&As and such, but it’s half my mortgage for one (1) person to meet Jared or Jensen?? (Keyword OR, as you have to pay twice to see them both if they’re not together {called the J2 Panel} and my mortgage is ~$2300) yikes. I’ve always suspected these convention companies are just capitalizing on the respective actor’s name, no matter how niche said actor is. I love Jared and Jensen as much as I love Sam, I still keep up with them despite my torrential time in the SPN fandom, but once again I’m grateful I prefer to admire these wonderful talented men from afar because my bank account would be yelling at me otherwise 😅😅

Unlike you, this is the first (and certainly last, thanks) fandom experience for me. Paying 25 francs (5 USD) circa 1996 for a laminated, fake FBI agent ID with my photo and name, on behalf of the French X-Files fan club does not count, ahem. Suffice to say this folly just made my entourage laugh like drains (I was a sophomore, back then, mind you) and call me Agent Sgian-dubh for about a year and a half, or so. Embarrassing doesn't even start to describe the reality of it. Especially when you are 18, you think you are Simone de Beauvoir - at a bare minimum-, as you smoke your cigarette and sip your allongé while desperately trying to look intelligent, outside Le Café de Flore.

How we were happy, back then, and in what uncomplicated world we used to live, though! Without any fan events and forced to go to the nearest Internet cafe for the slightest Altavista research, that naive fanzine I received every month by snail mail quickly grew old, as my patience for the 'Agent Sgian-dubh' gleeful quip. Interestingly enough, I still must have that fake ID, somewhere. Last time I saw it, in one of my old wallets, my mother looked mildly interested ('and what the fuck is this, excuse me? an X-Files fan club ID? oh...'), but that entire experience was definitely underwhelming. Even if I secretly did ship Mulder & Scully, without having any idea that was a thing. Too ashamed to admit to it, for all of the above mentioned reasons.

Alas, today is just another planet, where cheap thrills and a pat on the back do cost half a mortgage. As a Romanian saying would have it, 'the stupid one is not the one who's asking, the stupid is the one who's paying'. In S's case, I think the mommies were and will be his demise, if he doesn't quickly get the gist of it and branches out, somehow. I mean, come on, with all due respect and all that #silly interest, this is JAMMF we're talking about, not Lang Lang, tickets to whose concerts don't cost one kidney and a half!

I don't even find it funny, mind you. I find it sad, perhaps because I am thinking about the day this entire circus will be over and done with and completely forgotten. But until then, let's sing and be merry: with one more season to air, the #shitshow is still alive and kicking and the fat lady is nowhere near.

I love the lore everyone gives him. His backstory is always unique no matter the fan/artist and it’s so cool to think about. Whether or not the OG trio die, I love hearing what everyone thinks!

Shit, this is hard. The fandom treats him VERY well, so I can’t really think of anything I don’t like off the top of my head. I mean MAAAAAYBE when someone kills off Shenzi and Banzai but it’s not something I totally despise either since they very well could be 🤷‍♀️

I think I saw the Janja x Chungu x Cheezi pairing once or twice. Don’t ship them romantically but I don’t have a problem with it. Janja x Kion is another one.

Introductions

So its a fandom based on the epic fantasy series that follows for the most part, 2 soulmates, from their childhood all the way to their older years as they grow from friendship, partners to lovers. And I have to admit, the way it's written is almost euphoric. It's utterly lyrical.

So introductions now put aside, 'Fitzloved' is the ship name for "Beloved" (one of his many names) name of the characters and "Fitz". They are the two ongoing protagonists in one of the most respect and wonderful high fantasy series ever created, Realm of the Elderlings by Robin Hobb. They are the main couple shall we say that span the 16 book series. I think a lot describe it as the "mona lisa of fantasy series" within the genre. It's aesthetic is very much evermore meets folklore meets Merlin. Its veryyyyy cozy fantasy and perfect for the season but also the Fall/winter.

The big 5 writers of fantasy rn i have been told are: Brandon's, Robin Hobb's, GRRM (Although he's lost a lot of respect in the community because of his insane hiatus!), Steven Erickson's (Malazan series) and Joe Abercrombie. While you will see with the Cosmere, Brandon is very much straight to the point, prioritises fights, magic system building and very cohesive ensamble casts. Unlike her peers, Robin Hobb on the other hand, is a delicacy. A slowly made dessert that has sweet and salty tastes if you will. And another defining feature is that her series does not involve a massive war at the epicentre of the fantasy plot, which ironically is rare in high fantasy now a days.

HOWEVER. The WAY in which i was introduced to this series is kind of dumb and silly, i.e. very me lol. i stumbled across a fiction on ao3 under 'in a the cabin era way' tag and stumbled across @tragediegh's soul-binding, amazing wonderful fiction called Of Cats and Closed Doors that is still ongoing and she updates mostly weekly! At first, not joking i thought it was an original work, but only well into crying, loving, reading, laughing, did i realise when i looked better at the tags it was actually based on ROTE lol. I was new to ao3 that's my only defence :P

And what @tragediegh and Hobb are doing probably tell from my handle, is make literally my roman empire. Like I reread chapters everyday before going to sleep. It's fr fr my safe space. and what i love is the maturity in which they both write, as they create stakes in different ways. She creates a very tangible atmosphere, a world you can touch, the foods cooked, how they smell, and what the character's rely on. From banquet halls, to the wood carvings the Fool leaves behind, the well lit fireplaces, mugs of ale and coffee on the table, through jewels adorned, to how the dragons gleaming like jewels in the sky… it's simply amazing. You get me. There is NEVER a moment where you feel like it's a slog or dull moment. Like I did sometimes while reading the Stormlight Archive or Outlander (those books in their defence, are longer individually).

And like I said, the thing I LOVE the most with how they make us and fall in love with Fool (one of the protagonists) through the eyes of naive and a socially sometimes challenged Fitz. Fitz himself, is the most passionate, handsome, humble hero i've ever read. He is a bastard prince who from day 0 was neglected, abused, unwanted, un-named, manipulated, gaslit just all around most traumatised character one could read. Which most people end up overlooking and resenting bc he is riddled with insecurities (despite him being a hotttie hot chiseled smokie pie that everyone wants to cuffff) and developed unhealthy copying mechanisms that can effect the readability of the main series. Which is entirely relatable. I strongly believe the hero of Stormlight Archive by Brandon Sanderson that everybody loves, is heavily inspired by Fitz in ROTE. In fact I think Brandon said it was one of his fav series.

But really, the masterpiece of this world is obviously the Fool. When I look at the other characters, its a bit like watching a glorious puppet show - I can see how the strings are moving and what the puppets are made of…But not so with the Fool, he is an infinite mystery and creating a character like that is something I`ll never be able to get out of my head. he is other worldly. Put Tolkien fae and beautiful faeries to shame with his grace, elegance, mysticism. His story with Fitz (the other main character) with that @tragediegh and Hobb are doing imo is one of the greatest love stories of all time.

Gender Identity

And I think also, Fool (also known as Beloved to a special someone 😉) is a lgbtq+ individual, and their identity and how they chose to present and address themselves daily (and not address it!) plays a massive role in the ROTE/OCACD overall. It extremely realistic, how it's writen, where for the most part some characters are confused, don't know how to navigate the topic. Which isn't helped by how private and mysterious the Fool remains. But for the most part, is heart warming, as the gender fluidity of the Fool is openly accepted by his mate (YES MATE) with open arms as he accepts it, and it's got me CRYINGGGG as i type this fr....! These characters were created pre-2000's, which just goes to show how timeless these gender questions and acceptances really are i think!

Conclusion

So yeah, I cannot recommend enough this ongoing story and series to you.

TLDR: Fitzloved is a ship i read myself to sleep every night and cry about how amazing they are XD

I don't know beans about traditional Chinese clothing and I'm not in any fandom where characters were hanfu, but I'm finding the conversation about it really interesting by analogy to something I am familiar with, Highland dress. I wear a kilt maybe about once a week, and the historical and cultural significance is important to me.

The full outfit one traditionally wears with a kilt has a gazillion pieces, and each pice has at least two names, was probably invented a few hundred years later than you think it was, and almost certainly is at the center of at least one political issue in the 18th or 19th century.

The thing you think of as a kilt is also called a small kilt, or a philabeg (a loan word from Gaelic, also spelled filibeg or phillibeg), and is technically half of the great kilt (aka philamor, also with spelling variations). It may or may not have been invented by an Englishman.

The Jacobite shirt is a recent invention. The wide belt with a huge buckle comes from military dress. Tartan is technically the name of the cloth, and a plaid is a sort of mini cloak you wear on your shoulder. Kilt pins only go through the top layer of fabric and don't pin the kilt together, and are a Victorian invention. Tartan patterns only gained close and official identities with specific clans or families or groups in the Victorian era. Some modern Tartans are under copyright and you need permission from the designer to weave or sell them, others are public domain and literally anyone can wear them, despite affiliation.

I could go on....

Or you can wear a kilt with stompy goth boots and a band tshirt, or with hiking boots and a polo shirt, that's fine too (and how I wear mine, more often than not).

It's not hard for me to see that hanfu is just as complex and has just as much historical and cultural significance as the traditional cultural clothing I'm more familiar with, and getting it wrong in a fic would look just as silly.

But you don't have to actually do this much research and know everything I know about Scottish history to write a character who wears a kilt, whether it's in a historical, present day, or fantasy setting.

You probably want to have an OK grasp of what Highland dress means to your character and why they wear it, and you want to acutally know what a kilt even is in the first place (it's a little more specific than just a skirt), but that's all you really need.

If a Chinese fanfic author wanted to write Outlander fic, and didn't want to do the in depth research to get the clothing terminology exactly right for the time period, that's fine. Just put the pleats in back and call it a kilt instead of a skirt and that's good enough.

-- Same anon who just sent the ask about Highland dress. I can see where the "it's not a robe" anons are coming from. To me, the word "robe" covers a huge variety of unrelated garments, including bathrobes and wizard robes and hanfu and kimono and togas and the sack-like things graduates wear and the things Medieval European kings wear. But if someone called a great kilt a robe, I think I'd have a fit. Yes, just like the other examples, it's a large flowing piece of cloth worn around the body in a certain style, but it's more specific than that. I most likely feel this way because I'm more familiar with great kilts than I am with the other examples. The others are all just different kinds of robes to me, but a great kilt is something specific that I know a lot about. If you described a great kilt to someone who didn't know anything about it as a type of robe, I would consider that accurate, but if you said of an Outlander character "he put on his robe", I would be like "excuse me???? that's a great kilt". That's probably how the "hanfu ≠ robe" anons are thinking.

For me, as a novelist, the calculation is simple:

When I'm writing in third person limited (as I usually do), how would the character be thinking about this clothing? That's what the argument boils down to.

On one side, we have "This word is more Chinese, so it feels more like it's honoring that these are Chinese canons".

On the other side, we have the equivalent of "Your Scottish guy from 1350 is not going around thinking 'He was clad in Scottish dress' about his bros who are just wearing normal clothing."

No one is confused about the two sides of the argument. They just disagree about whether 'hanfu' is anachronistic and exoticizing.

Octane Tickle Headcanons

I haven't written anything for Apex in a little over a year and I decided to write these on a whim to try and ease my way back into the fandom.

Ler

The Apex Games keep Octane busy, but even he needs to add in some variety so he doesn’t get bored.

As one of the Outland’s resident pranksters, he causes trouble on a pretty regular basis and enjoys having fun with the other Legends. Sometimes that fun incorporates tickling. This is especially true if his target has a more serious/stoic personality. 

“Jeez, it was just a joke. Loosen up amigo.” Cue the speedster prodding at the lee’s torso, especially at the sides or ribs, and grinning when he gets a squeal or a laugh. “Ticklish, huh? Sweet. I was getting bored..”

Octane is mischievous and energetic as a ‘ler. He goes in fast and pokes and squeezes over ticklish spots in seemingly random patterns before doubling down and scribbling over the spots that got his ‘lee laughing. 

He can also be a lil’ shit about it too- if he thinks his friends are moving too slow, he’ll poke at their torso and encourage them to move it, though he can often easily keep up with them even if they make a legitimate attempt to run. “Dios mio, you even walk slow. Hurry up!”

Tickling and pranks become intertwined if he learns that someone’s ticklish. One of his favorite things to do is poking the closest person to his jump pad and laughing as they accidentally launch themselves in the air. It’s funnier if they end up flying off the map. 

He loves a chase. He will even give his ‘lee a head start if he’s feeling cocky, but it’s rare that they ever get away from him.

He also likes to dash in while his lee is doing something else, tickle them, and dash out. He always gets a kick out of it, and his ‘lees are often left exhausted. Getting tickled by him could easily count as a workout. 

Being Octane’s friend and being around him when he’s bored could lead to impromptu tickle attacks. He’ll spring up to his feet and grin, saying, “I’ll give you ten seconds to run.” That’s the closest thing to a warning they’ll get before he jumps into action, and even ten seconds is generous. 

Octane also likes to tickle people if they prank him and/or if they’re starting trouble with him and playfully tease them. His taunts can range from “Thought you were mad at me. What 's so funny?” or “Still got jokes, huh?”

Lee

One of, if not the most ticklish Legend in the Apex Games. Whether that sensitivity comes from his stim usage or not, it doesn’t take much to get him laughing. 

The difficult part is having him stay still long enough to actually be tickled, though. After a few ticklish pokes, he’s gone, and most of the Legends don’t have a chance in catching him. 

He has to be backed into a corner or someone has to get the jump on him to have the highest chance of tickling him. And even then, he has to be held or pinned in some way because he’s very squirmy. If he can get away, he will. 

A  couple of pokes can easily get those frantic giggles out of him. But tickling his underarms will elicit those infectious belly laughs. His tummy is pretty ticklish too, but to a slightly lesser extent. 

He yelps out an even mix of English and Spanglish as he’s being tickled, with a heavier emphasis on Spanish curse words as he squirms and laughs himself silly. 

Since he pranks a lot of the Legends, he’s a prime target for tickling if they can catch him. That doesn’t stop him from instigating pranks though- it’s way too much fun. 

His laughter is much like him: loud and chaotic. It can usually be heard from at least two rooms down on the drop ship. 

He regenerates stamina quickly and can be tickled for longer than most in theory. And, even if his ‘ler has him trapped, he’s still very fidgety and it takes a concerted effort to keep him in place. 

If his ‘ler is ticklish, or if there’s even a possibility that they are, he’s gonna get them back. Even if it seems like he’s dashed off to do something else, Octane’s coming for ‘em.

Your post reminds me of the early 2000s when people were speculating on which Disney Channel and Nickelodeon actors were actually together IRL (which is weird enough to speculate on the romantic lives of children) and how crazy the tabloids were in general back then when it came to actors personal/romantic lives.

I think people in Western culture tend to downplay the prevalence of that behavior nowadays because it’s not as front and center as it used to be but it does still happen and a lot of the time it’s still used by studios to promote their shows. Definitely not a phenomenon unique to Asia.

I do think western fans, particularly ones in BL/GL fandoms, are so hyper focused on those fandoms/sub-fandoms they either don't pay attention to what's happening outside of those fandoms or don't know general media history. I don't blame~~ ppl for this fandom is ultimately a hobbyist space first and foremost, but I do think it can lead to damaging assumptions about non-American/British cultures and a prevalent belief that these types of occurrences only happen in BL/GL fandoms which can - and has in my observations - lead to some xenophobic beliefs about East Asian cultures in general.

This is a bigger problem in general of xenophobia when it comes to consuming and/or engaging with non-white/non-american media like this belief that Korean media isn't horny in general isn't just something I see BL fans saying but also ppl who watch romance kdramas b/c that's their main focus, romance kdramas not Korean media in general. Which is vast and varied, and exists beyond Crash Landing Into You, Guardian, Squid Game and Parasite

(sidenote, everyone knows Bong Joon-ho for Parasite but his filmography is varied and amazing, The Host is such a clever subversive of a B monster movie and Snowpiercer is probably one of my fave films of all time and Chris Evans best on screen performance to date)

Like, I see folks saying "shipping" a lot when it comes to fans believing idk Mew and Gulf were irl dating when in my fandom experience that shit was called "tin hatting" b/c it was a conspiracy. There was a fine line difference between ppl who like just enjoyed and liked Dom and Elijah's friendship and wrote silly (even if it was sexy) fanfic about them and the ppl who literally stalked Elijah to a gay bar once b/c they legitimately believed Dom and Elijah were in a secret romance. Like way to much fandom shit, Jared and Jensen also popularized tin hatting or rather their fandom did. J2 crawled so Larries could fucking RUN. Back in the days of LiveJournal there were anon communities that had threads with 1000s of comments about how Jared and Jensen were secretly in a relationship b/c omg look at the way they act at cons! They're so touch-feely! They make innuendo jokes!

We'd call this "fan service" with a Thai acting pair and I would argue that's what Jared and Jensen were doing, fan service just in the early 00s. Idk if they still do this at cons I don't follow SPN anymore but you saw the same comments about like the 1D members. In my experience I would argue western tin hatters of western celebs are worse than what I see from BL fans even with the "fan service" or whatever b/c there's a sense of heightened conspiracy think involved. And again, it's not just for same-sex couples the actors for Outlander have been harassed by tinhats for almost as long as the show has been on (so like 8-ish years). At the height of the popularity for Scandal tin hats were saying Kerry Washington's baby was gonna come out light skinned "proving" it was her white costars (for those who don't know Kerry is a Black woman and her husband is a Black man, her former costar is a white man).

idk where I was going with all this but like, this isn't something specific to Thailand or Korea etc it's not even something specific to same sex pairings. I would argue Thailand's just learned how to monetize off people's already pre-existing lack of boundaries towards public figures.

That title would probably have to go to Rynne! I’ve had her for several years now, and she originated as a cringe sona-but-not-it’s-like-me-but-a-sadist-with-a-scythe sorta characters. Gosh, she’s so old, I have no relevant art to show of her!

It’s been a while since I’ve developed a truly new OC…so it’d have to be Drisco and Castarian. They debuted in the mind at the same day, but Castarian made an appearance later so technically he’s the newest!

Favorite OC:

I don’t have an overall favorite… but I do pick and choose favorites from each story I have. A couple of my favorites include Maroon, Jay, Switch, Dislan, and Rynne.

Main Reason For Making OCs:

Mostly for story reasons that spawn. However, I do have fandom OCs, (and some of them happen to be the most well-known!) but I will inevitably end up working them into a story. OCs spawning from roleplay is a rare sight, and it’s only happened once… believe it or not, that’s how Karmin came into existence!

Describe Your Character Creation Process:

Step 1: Concept for a silly guy comes into my brain.

Step 2: Come up with a basic design for them to be changed later.

Step 3: Inflict soul-crushing pain.

Step 4: Have so much fun inflicting pain that I have to remind myself that it’s supposed to be a story. Suffer without coming up with actual story elements.

Step 5: Receive divine inspiration and everything comes together and I’m so fucking back baby.

Repeat Steps 5 and 6 until done.

Fav OC Ship:

Castarian and Drisco. They’re not a couple, but they have feelings for each other. They each blame each other for their deaths and refuse to see the other’s way. They separated themselves and feel the crushing loneliness l, but when they’re together they can’t stop arguing.

Drisco wants nothing more than to HURT Castarian, but only HE can hurt him, no one else, since he is the only person Castarian has wronged.

Castarian hates Drisco’s facades, violence, and methods, but those are what helped him in life. Drisco holds the power to make Castarian feel good about himself… and he’s dependent on that.

Do You Ship Your OCs With Someone Else’s OCs:

For everyone else who doesn’t know, my OC Jaide gets to be in a doomed yuri with Sky (the asker’s OC!! Hi Marci <3)

But I do have quite a few characters shipped with those belonging to @corrupted-tale. Like my OC Dislan and her OC Pix. And my Narrator with her Lady Luck.

Weirdest OC:

I’d have to say Bi Solomon earns that title. He’s a fascist furry who reinvented capitalism in a post-apocalyptic world. (And by furry I do mean he’s a Creature btw).

Favorite OC Design:

I REFUSE to let that achievement go to Drisco so Night! ILY Night!!!! You’re so cool and gender and badass!!

Not the greatest picture of it, since it actually has 4 arms and a cool-ass sickle… but oh well.

An OC You’ve Killed:

The easy answer are OCs like Jaide, Levi, Drisco, and Castarian, since they’re ghosts and that’s their whole gimmick.

It’s actually rare for me to kill off OCs and leave them forever, since I feel like they die before their potential is fulfilled. But the previously mentioned fascist furry Solomon dies (good riddance), and I have a pantheon of gods that get slaughtered in a different story!

Besides Jaide, I do have some others! I have a royal family group of OCs, with King Leonard and Queen Beatrice being parents to a chaotic group of kids.

Dr. Kruger, while not physically being a dad, is burdened with being a single father as punishment for being too William Afton core.

Are There Any OCs You Find Yourself Neglecting:

Each OC has gotten their time in the spotlight, but I haven’t developed all of the characters from that royal family. And I have waning interest if the cast of Ora and the Rift in Time…

There are concept OCs I neglect since I dunno what to do with them. Like Brittlebrine. He started off as a cool concept for exactly one day and then I never thought about him again. And I’m still conflicted on Devon…..

An OC that’s difficult to write/draw/rp:

Vipsi’s hard to write, despite having little screentime. She lost her mind, but I don’t entirely know how to write insanity arcs. Not to mention that I didn’t really know how their story should go…

My entire godly pantheon is difficult for me to draw (except for Lux, since I��ve had her design figured out). I don’t have finalized designs for some of the less important gods, but the design ideas are difficult…

Out of the few OCs I’ve roleplayed, Karmin has been the most difficult (which is ironic, considering she originated from one). I have to actively consider what is going on in her brain and how to present it in a good way. But it’s okay since she’s only ever been in two rps ever.

Your Tallest & Shortest OCs:

My shortest is probably Gemi! He’s less than 4 feet tall. Truly a little guy.

And my eldritch being OCs are the tallest. In their most incomprehensible forms, they’re about 40-70 feet tall? It fluctuates, since they’re impossible to comprehend. But they’re very large.

Your Oldest and Youngest OCs:

As much as I’d like to say my youngest is Levi, he was born 500 years before Masked present! That means that Ora is likely my youngest, being 7 or 8.

Just like with height, my eldritch being OCs take the cake for being the oldest. They’re all billions of years old, except for Thirio and Tsumi. Epithymia is the oldest of them all, but if Nova were still alive, he would’ve won the crown.

Do You Dislike Any Of Your OCs?

Have You Ever Made A Self-Insert?

Oh yeah. My sona Doodle doubles as a self-insert when I don’t want to make an entirely new character with a flat personality since they’re based on me.

Branching off of Doodle thanks to some sort of evolution is a self-insert named Sketch. Sketch is what happens when I want to ship myself with characters, but they will be the star of the SPM fic I have planned!

An OC Regret:

I have OCs that spawned from ideas that I didn’t fully know how to handle well, or problematic media. They were all from when I was younger, though, so all is forgiven and those OCs have been sent to the fiery oblivion.

EHEHEE YAY I LOVE ASKS LIKE THIS!! don't mind me rambling about how i got into it :3

i watched the lion guard originally as a young teen! my memories are foggy, so i can't say how much i liked it, but i do remember ono being my favourite and that i watched enough to remember a lot of the episodes when i revisited it a few years later. i rewatched it out of childhood nostalgia and curiosity - i wanna say around 2020 maybe? - and developed a hyperfixation on it, specifically on janja! back then, i kinda only cared about his character and a few others such as timon, pumbaa, scar and kiburi, though janja was the character who i was actually interested in. i had even bought a lion king notebook to write a snippet of an au i had for him, i still have it lmaoo

because of how my hyperfixations work, i get obsessed over one fandom for a while until it switches to another. for instance, most of last year i hyperfixated on the madagascar movies - those periods of hyperfixating would last anywhere from hours to months until shifting to, for example, the lion guard. it also wasn't my main fandom at the time, madagascar was. that changed in november last year, when i found that there was a LOT of cool lion guard content on here (especially @devilsrecreation's outlanders posts!). i began to interact a little bit which made me hyperfixate on it even more. i made my first lion guard post in december, and that's where my posting and very long hyperfixation on it began!! since then i've had like a landslide of constant thoughts about this silly show, and i've picked up a lot of new favourite characters along the way (such as kiburi and his float, beshte, goigoi, dogo, literally all of the outlanders...). i've barely shifted hyperfixations since then and the show has very swiftly become a favourite media of mine! :3

so, i guess seeing content being made AND making my own has made me hyperfixate on it endlessly (/pos btw). i've specifically hyperfixated on the outlanders as you can probably tell lol. essentially, ✨the power of hyperfixations✨ lead me to being on and posting on this site, but the show has always been for me since i was a teen c:

Good morning, Vietnam: Second hand

Good morning, Vietnam ahem, Outlander Fandom,

It is a rainy morning somewhere in Eastern Europe and I thought it was high time for a new audio:

I also think it's high time to remember a simple, common sense thing, really.

When a second hand player utters something outrageous, relayed by second hand trolls, the only logical reaction to it must be second hand embarrassment.

All we know (?) until now is that June Brunette went ballistic on some Antis/Onlys who took things a step too far across the discernment line and engaged with her. Who in their right mind would do such a thing? Who, aged 12 and above, would expect an honest answer or reliable info out of it?

Nothing consistent of those heated exchanges has emerged yet. Across the street, they suddenly play the #silly mimosa pudica game: let's be respectful and let's, by the same token and by all means, ventilate shit to oblivion, in the guise of 'well thought' posts. With NO substantial evidence. Funny, that.

What do we have, ultimately? A rude woman, whose claim to fame is her ambition to enlighten The World about the difference between deodorants and antiperspirants (I shit you not). And two clueless idiots, who should get a life ASAP and not go meddle their nose in someone else's Obvious Crap.

Even if she told such suicidal things as 'he hates all his fans' or ' he's mine and he'll never be yours' to those Two Convenient Imbeciles, that does not mean S told her that, either. If only because all wallets are, after all, created equal, as I often say. If only because his business projects are still not mature enough as to be entirely emancipated of the Mommies' Booze Mafia. And finally, if only because Seasons 7B and 8 are still to be broadcast and, therefore, show must go on.

I am officially buying popcorn. Let's see how long she remains relevant, after all this tiny shitstorm. Bets?

Well it all started as a journey. It's a long journey, for sure, of a varying opinion change over the years of playing the game, from forces inside the game and outside the game. But I am not one to post things negatively about other people's favs out in the open so readmore it is

So we begin this journey as a wide eyed newbie player just figuring out what I wanted my legacy to be with my first knight, Leeloa. A friend was playing along with me, and I really enjoyed the Doc romance because I am definitely a fan of the 'player gets played by his own game and catches feelings' trope. Well, I get to SOR and mention to friend that I think Theron's fun and she tells me to ditch Doc because she didn't like him and thought Leeloa could do better.

I ended up remaking Leeloa because I listened then did not like that course, because it just didn't fit Leeloa. So honestly, I did like him when I first started.

But then writing happens, and it felt like he...Never developed past the whole "reckless, I do things when I do them" kind of persona, especially with the betrayal. And the more I delved into information on SWTOR, it just...Bothered me. He's descended from the hero of the original games, but oh no not force sensitive, but he's a great spy so amazing.

Why?? Because he had some Jedi training because it was expected for him to be force sensitive but oh no he WASN'T what a shock...

Except that...Doesn't really track with the Jedi and, everyone hates me, but the test for the midichlorians. They would know, they wouldn't just assume because his mom was Satele.

And somehow, despite acting in the most unspy like ways, he's a great spy. I don't know why anyone would have the Grand Master of the Jedi Council's son as a spy because that is just a huge liability.

I'll admit I haven't read the extra material because I just think it's...Kind of silly to have content outside of a video game beyond, say, a short story or a short comic.

There's just a lot of his story that if you look at it closer and in the grand scheme of Star Wars, is just absolutely ridiculous and maybe, a bit more Gary Stu than Luke.

Now then, to the writing and how he was treated in expacs. (This area is a place where Lana is also on thin fuckin ice.) The absolute favoritism shown to him by the devs drove me crazy. It started to weed away at my liking him and move me more into the exasperated/tired/neutral about him. You have this whole giant alliance, but the focus being on him and Lana so much was just annoying, especially considering it was Koth who helped the Outlander escape in the beginning chapters and how he got pushed aside. It didn't narratively feel...Cohesive and just a 'Look at the Sh*n kid go!'

The nail in the coffin is how the fandom acts about how he's a golden boy, how he gets fawned over, and honestly?? I just hate liking those characters for personal reasons. It always seems like people ignore what we're given about the character and expanding on it and, instead, ignore it and write an entirely different personality with the face they think is cute. I am huge on consistency, it's my style of writing, my preferred style of reading (thanks literary analysis class in college you ruined me), so fandom just fucked me over from liking him and while he's still friends with my knight, I try my hardest to ignore fandom with him, do my best to try to enjoy him, because I do intend to run all the game romances for gif making purposes.

Also he's really written as playersexual if you play a light side character and some conversations felt awkward like the devs were expecting you to have romanced him.

being exiled from fandom is funny and I'm starting to accept and embrace it more. it's also made me step back even further from the general fandom too as I hardly even browse it now and the more I stay away the better I feel. I have been doing so consistently for months actually and my mood is improved, I just get to do my own thing and have fun on my own without judgment.

but since all my creative posts have been queued for the past couple of days, I've also just been chilling mostly away from Twitter and Tumblr as a whole too and just creating and it's even better. even a long time ago I said I kinda wish I could go back to when I wasn't involved much in fandom and was more of an observer but was too attached after getting involved but I finally let go and I'm happy about it

but just because I'm an outsider now and find the solitude peaceful, that doesn't mean I have or want to be alone in it all the time. so where I was actually going with this is that I wanna say that I appreciate y'all sticking around and hanging out with me here in my silly little corner in the outlands, where I gush about Eggman and share my niche of evil analysis and concepts and such XD

Listen, I adore Jack Huston. I am a little in love with him but also i really enjoy his acting. But this man has been cast in some shitty roles. SO if you're like me and you want to stare at his face some more, I'm here to help. I've watched a good chunk of his work at this point, so here's a list of his movies I really enjoyed:

Posthumous- If you have a soft spot for romcoms, this one is lovely. I rewatch it a lot because I find it comforting. It's a romcom, so it is cheesy and follows the usual formula, but that's how the genre is!

An Actor Prepares- Just an uncomplicated, fun watch.

The Hot Potato- Actually very funny. I think this movie is super overlooked. Silly British Spy film.

Outlander- Cheesy early 2000's scifi movie with vikings. If you like that sort of thing like I do, definitely watch it. I think this movie could have had a big fandom but missed its moment.

Bonus mention: I know Ben-Hur isn't for everyone. It didn't make the main list because there are only a few specific reasons I liked it and I don't know if they would be enough for other people to want to watch it lol. The sea battle and the chariot race are very, very cool. They're visually impressive and super exciting. If nothing else, just find clips of that. Jack Huston is very good in it! I just know the religious stuff might make some people uncomfortable.

I'm kind of excited for that lighthouse movie coming up. it sounds like something I might like. I'll have to wait til a trailer comes out to know for sure.

and you know what? if it wasn't for how little content there was for the lion guard outlanders, i probably wouldn't be posting. i'm happy to observe the things i like from afar without interacting with fandom, but i just knew i'd be happy putting the content i wanted to see out there

i honestly didn't think anyone would see it, but they did! either they came across it and liked it or they were searching for content like i was. either way it made me so happy. i can enjoy what i post just fine, but the thought that others enjoyed what i made? it's an indescribable sense of happiness!! thank you to everyone who's liked or followed, i'm happy to spread my silly thoughts on my silly obsession :) <3

SPECIAL ROME FANMEET NIGHTMARE 😱 EDITION: Sam’s Diary 📔 June 4, 2018

Dear Diary,

I just woke up in a cold sweat! 😓😱😓😳

I had the weirdest nightmare!

Even though I had a great time at the Rome Fanmeet, somehow it got all weird in that dream...

I wonder if it was because of the late night gnocchi? 🤔

[Note to self: Don’t have gnocchi so late at night...even if it was sooooo good! 👌Melt in your mouth 👄 gooood! And with that freshly grated Romano cheese 🧀 and the half a bottle of chianti. 🍷🍷🍷 Nope! Don’t do it again. Not worth the nightmares.]

I can’t get the dream out of my head. Well, maybe if I write it down exactly as I remember it, including what I was feeling and thinking at the time, I’ll be able to make some sense of it--and get back to much needed sleep. 😴

Okay...so I was wandering, wandering... Walking into halls and public spaces in a hotel filled with strangers and handlers talking to me in Italian...

But I didn’t know any Italian, 😬 so I just kept smiling and walking...

Despite the smile I was lost and self-conscious. I was supposed to know where I was going but I didn’t have a clue. 

I also didn’t know what to do with my hands. I never know what to do with my hands. 🖐 😖 🖐

I tried folding my arms across my chest but maybe that wasn’t the right thing to do because the handler started talking excitedly to me in Italian.

BUT I DIDN’T KNOW ANY ITALIAN! 😬

I couldn’t say much more than “Ciao bella!” and that will only get you so far.

I barely learned passable French for season 2! And even so Weber cracked up every time I said a line in French.

You try speaking French with an 18th century Scottish accent Mr. I Speak English beautifully with my fancy French accent...Pfft! 😈

But I digress. Back to the dream...

So I was still wandering, not knowing what I was supposed to do.

I tried waving. 👋  Waving worked...

But WHO was I waving at?

I didn’t know!

NO ONE KNEW! 😱

So I finally decided to put my hands in my pockets. 

That worked.

I was getting the hang of all this wandering when...

OMG I WAS ON STAGE IN A BATHROBE AND A SHOWER CAP! 😳

At least I wasn’t on stage 🎭 naked 😳 and unable to remember my lines. 

I hate that nightmare. 😖

But this scenario was still pretty ridiculous! On the whole, I’d rather have been wandering...

But how was I supposed to get off the stage?

OMG Mum suddenly appeared! What was she doing here?! 😱

Oh no! She looked annoyed at me! Did she see me in the shower cap?! 😳

Oh wait. No. She was annoyed because I stopped to talk to someone and was holding her up.

But that’s from when we went to the EIFF. What was I doing there with Mum in THIS dream?! 

I was in Rome not Edinburgh! 

I was so confused! 😵

Then suddenly I was BACK to wandering around the hotel in Rome.

I had no idea who these people were but they all wanted to take photos of me.

OMG did they see me scratch my ass!

WAS THAT ON VIDEO?!!! 😳

And the handler was talking excitedly to me in Italian again!

“Stupido!” 🤦 Yes, I understood that one bit of Italian!

And the next moment I was BACK on stage in a bathrobe. At least the shower cap was gone! 

BUT WHAT WERE THOSE SHINY GOLD THINGS ON MY WRIST AND MY FINGERS?!!!

WAS I WEARING A WOMAN’S CHARM BRACELET AND TWO GOLD RINGS?!!

OH NOOOO!  MY HANDS WERE MORPHING INTO CAIT’S! 😱

I had to get AWAY! Away from the shower cap and the bathrobe and the gold rings and the charm bracelet!!

So I was RELIEVED to find myself wandering around again!

But then I went through a door and...

CAME FACE TO FACE WITH MYSELF--BUT I’D MORPHED INTO CAIT AS CLAIRE!!! 😱😱😱

And that’s when I SCREAMED 😱 and woke up completely disoriented! 😵

Excuse me as I hyperventilate for a few minutes at the memory of all of this...

Okay. So now that I have written it all down what does it mean❓❓❓

Does it mean I feel lost and exposed and my identity is merging with Cait’s and I have mom issues?  [Note to self: Why do writers always throw in the mommy issue cliche in dreams--even wacko parody writers like that CO? 🤔]

Nawww! It doesn’t mean any of those things. 😜 It was just the indigestion 🤢 from eating too much gnocchi late at night that warped my dreams while I slept. 

Next time, I’m definitely going to skip the late night gnocchi!

But it was sooooo gooood! 😉

This is a parody of a fictitious “Sam.” I’m sure the real Sam Heughan has NEVER had any of these thoughts and he certainly never had this nightmare. It’s also a parody of many of us in the fandom–including myself. Hopefully we can all smile at ourselves.

This edition of Sam’s Diary started with the observation that in the last couple of days there were A LOT of videos on my dash of Sam walking around the hotel where the June 2 & 3, 2018 Rome Fanmeet was held. And from there my imagination went wild.
