PICK A CARD: What Era Is Your Beauty From?
☯︎ “A man should hear a little music, read a little poetry, and see a fine picture every day of his life, in order that worldly cares may not obliterate the sense of the beautiful which God has implanted in the human soul.” ― Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
Disclaimer: This is a general reading, take what resonates. I am not suggesting any of these descriptions are cannon to your ancestral history, these are just how my intuition perceived, and then presented your beauty’s energy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
p1 → p2 ↙︎ p3 → p4
🂽 Pile One 🂽 (the devil, 2oC rev., ace of cups rev., 4oW, 3oC, king of swords, the tower, the world)
❖ Pile one, I feel like I’m watching the Game of Thrones out of context. Just flashes of people from around the Medieval 1400s living their day-to-day; singing, dancing, eating together, and then… not.
❖ The imagery I got when I asked what era your beauty came from, was very longing in nature. There was a lot of joy and celebration but it felt like I was watching the film through teary eyes and a heavy heart.
❖ The “movie” flashed between a thriving culture sharing tales of triumph and having happy, drunk sing-song moments together; and then those same people under a war-torn regime of a very cruel but powerful man. I sense themes of religious persecution, nationwide government-forced famine, and general desecration of the once-peaceful way of life. The population was going through collective mourning.
❖ People lamented over their unfulfillable desire to reconnect with their homeland and all of their loved ones. With the World card at the end of the spread and the Empress at the bottom of the deck, I get the clear image that your beauty is the physical embodiment of a large collective’s longing for the sanctity of their community. You invoke that feeling people get when they remember a bitter-sweet memory that hums fervor in their chest and gives them the fire they need to push forward.
❖ Your beauty comes from an era where the genuine smile and cheer of a pretty girl sparked a nation’s hope for reformation. You are the last remaining connection to long-lost celebration and the heart of a forgotten city.
How Do You Paint The Divine Image of Hope?
Tumblr media
🂽 Pile Two 🂽 (7oC rev., 4oP rev., full moon, leo, sacral chakra)
❖ WHOOOAAaaaaa Ammberrr is the collluuhhhhh of ya enneergyyy!! WHOoaaA, shades of gaawwllddd displayyy naturraalllyyyyyy…..
❖ Just know I was HOLLERING that. This is my hippie pile. My people. Yea that’s right, I’m talking the late 1960s - early 1970s.
❖ Your beauty arose at a time when society desperately needed color (specifically seeing some of you wearing a lot of bright colors or eye-catching jewelry or hairstyles). The world was bleak and the war’s aftermath on the overall mental and emotional welfare of the general public pushed people to radical ideals and birthed a revolution centered around liberation, pleasure, and community.
❖ Your beauty is all sunshine and rainbows. Psychedelics and organic food. The best music in human history (feel free to argue with me, but know that it is going straight out the other ear, mama) and week-long outdoor festivals full of peace, love, and vulnerability with total strangers.
❖ Your beauty brushes people with the chilling winds of shameless pleasure. The taste of unadulterated personal freedom that is almost a societal taboo. Your beauty is so purely liberating.
❖ Lmao, I imagine a guitar riff going off everytime you walk into a room.
❖ You are the physical embodiment of eccentric love and vivacious rebellion.
Play That Funky Music
Tumblr media
🂽 Pile Three 🂽 (The lovers rev., the High Priestess rev., Ace of Swords., 4oC. 7)
❖ Revolution is a running theme for all of the piles. This collective’s beauty awakens people.
❖ I’m seeing a brilliant man going mad at the lack of creative intelligence around him and pushing for societal rebirth. A complete cultural shift from the Dark Ages (pile one), to modernity. This is my Renaissance pile.
❖ You embody the mystical fusion of art, religion, architecture, and science. You are all the world’s intrinsic beauty rolled up into one figure. You are the art that attracts painters, inventors, and philosophers alike.
❖ You have the beauty of an all-around muse. You invoke the spirit of creative passion. It is like people see you and get a stroke of inspiration. Something that kicks them in the ass and tells them to go outside and create.
❖ This pile is very romantic. A classical beauty, like red roses and bottle poems. The universal innate desire to dream big.
❖ Shoutout to my Aquarians, 11th housers, and Shatabhisha natives.
The Medieval-Modern Muse
Tumblr media
🂽 Pile Four 🂽 (king of pentacles, 2oP, 5oP rev., 9oP)
❖ OKAY PLOTWIST?? I don’t know what era this pile’s beauty is from because it’s set in the future.
❖ It’s funny how the last piles were all set in periods of revolution (putting in the WORK) and your pile, the final pile, is set in a better world full of financial stability, the end of inequality, economic fairness, and universal abundance (the fruits of the labor).
❖ Dude, I was trying to read the message at first and was just scratching my head. I was like, “When has anywhere, literally ever been this good???” Then I saw the ace of wands reversed at the bottom of the deck and saw impending change and it clicked.
❖ I also saw some star semblance, and see that your beauty is a reminder to mankind that the “impossible” is already set in motion. The hell we have created will crumble.
❖ You are a physical embodiment of society’s future triumph. You radiate wealth and fairness. My Venusians, especially Libra. You also look regal, something about you makes people want to stand taller.
❖ You got the pride card, I see that you give people the feeling of victory. You are living proof of future triumph in a better world where greed and sorrow are eradicated.
❖ You are the harbinger of the next era.

People get VERY weird about summer online tbh and I think it stems from the introverted nature of most very-online people so they don't know or appreciate the epic highs and lows of outdoor music festivals or theme parks and other summer fun activities. "If you like summer it's because you live somewhere that doesn't get hot" I grew up in the south and have lived in tropical places. "Poor people suffer in the summer" poor people suffer every time of year. You can dislike summer btw but the way people on here treat summer like a serial killer is so...she's just flirty ☹

Devildom Wedding Headcanons
I realized you probably wouldn't get a Christian wedding in Hell.
cw: lotta alcohol, Satanic themes
Weddings in the Devildom are anything but a quiet affair. They're noisy, colorful, and caked in excess.
A demon world wedding ceremony could be mistaken for a nonstop reception. The guests are always on their feet, constantly on the move by dancing, swinging, hooting, howling, and jumping. Raucous revelry is seen as a sign of support for the pairing.
Demonus flows at all points of the ceremony, though not in high concentrations so most guests can partake throughout the whole event. Food is also served plentiful and easily portable so the dancing doesn't have to stop for snacks.
Wedding venues tend to be outdoors to accommodate the movement. Couples often choose town squares, forest clearings, or parks to hold their ceremonies. It will go on no matter what weather as magic can be used to keep things dry and temperate. Thunderstorms are actually signs of good fortune as the realm is seen as adding noise to the festivities.
The decor is often chaotic and colorful. Guests are encouraged to bring their own flowers, fruits, and paints to crush and throw as they're moving. There is no coordination between parties, so all sorts of petals, juices, and colors will be mixed together by the end.
Music is bright and energetic. Swing jazz is a popular choice as it often reflects the energy of the venue. Full bands can be brought out or bands of friends and family members can partake in keeping things lively.
Fire is a big part of the ceremony. Torches, braziers, and bonfires are used for illumination - themselves alight in fantastic, magical colors. More expensive ceremonies will even opt to use shadow magic to make words and images from the shadows of the dancers.
The couple being wed is expected to be barefoot throughout the event, no matter the venue. It symbolizes willingness to tred a dangerous path together. Outfits are selected jointly, often to match in some way, to further demonstrate the unity.
The couple arrives together and enters the venue at the same time, upon which they will take their place in the center of the festivities - often marked by a large bonfire/stone/effigy. The couple dances to the music as the guests link hands to form moving circles around them.
Glasses of demonus are eventually passed to the couple in the center. The pair take turns speaking individually to their partner and the crowd, making declarative statements about their love and future devotion to one another in a form reminiscent of a toast. The crowd is encouraged to cheer or heckle if statements seem inauthentic.
A guest of the couples' choosing then brings them a set of rings to place onto each other. Once the rings are secured, they are allowed to kiss, then drink from their glasses as demonus and paint is showered onto them like champagne.
The ceremony moves right along to the reception within seconds. The guests are allowed to rest, eat, stand, and converse among themselves and with the couple. Wedding games such as Drunk Lawn Darts or Hot Coal Races are played while guests intermittently give speeches and toasts.
The reception ends when guests are too exhausted/wasted to continue any further. The couple is allowed to leave at earliest convenience to consummate the final event if they so choose to, though it's poor manners to leave before speaking to all guests.
Jobs allow two days of time off for employees to recover from expected hangovers.

Shadamy week - Day 1 Festive
I'm generally satisfied with this one? So here you go I guess
Amy was beyond excited this time. She couldn't properly describe it. She just had a good feeling about it. A festival all about the prosperity and hope for the future. That new things would be discovered, and difficult problems could be fixed. Sometimes people from out of town called it New Years, and though that wasn't quite accurate, it was good enough for her.
She had a small jacket to shield herself from the cold night air. The games she would play, the things that she'd do, the people she would see, it was all so exciting!
She was most of the way there. She could see the glowing lights from behind a layer of lights. With a grin, she sped up along the path.
Only to hesitate, and stop in her tracks. Her own hesitation surprised her. It was like something was tugging on her heart, telling her not to leave it behind. Leave what behind?
She glanced around. Grass and trees surrounded her, the dirt pathway she was following beneath her feet, a grassy hill to her right. It all seemed so mundane. But it was obvious, something was here that she needed to adress.
The feeling usually came when someone needed help, or if Eggman was nearby. She saved many flickies this way.
Taking a deep breath, she relaxed and let her mind lead to whatever she needed to be.
She slowly left the path and wandered towards the green hill on her right. She felt like she was being pulled toward it. It felt natural. She needed to get to the top of the hill.
It was a tall hill, but no mountain by any means. It didn't take long to get to the top. The festival was much easier to see from the top. It was lit up like a theme park, or an outdoor arcade. She started glancing around. Looking for that something. It didn't take long to find.
Shadow was at the edge of the hill staring at the festival. His ears were pointed towards her. He definitely knew she was there, but hadn't said a thing. Was he hoping she would go away?
"Um," she started awkwardly. "Hi Shadow."
"... Hello, Rose." She waited a moment for him to continue, but he didn't. He didn't do anything to say he wanted her to stay, but he also didn't do anything to say she should leave, either.
She slowly stepped closer to him, until she was lined up next to him. On his left. He glanced at her very briefly, but ultamately decided to ignore her, and keep looking at the lights.
"So, you headed off to the festival too?" He shook his head, and she frowned. "Then why aren't you at home? What's the point of coming this close if you're not going to go in?"
When he didn't say anything she worried she might've annoyed him. The last thing he probably wanted to was to be interogated. He had never said much to her before, when they bumped into each other while saving the world. She wasn't sure why she thought it'd be different now.
But then, he took a deep breath. "Have you ever seen so much media for something that you feel you've lived through it?"
Amy gave him a puzzled look. What did that have to do with anything? "...I don't know what you mean."
Shadow thought for another second. "Say, a time period, for example."
Amy stopped to think about it. "Like how everything is about the 80s and 90s?" She asked.
"Yeah, something like that."
He didn't give her a chance to ask another question. "Once a year, at New Years, they would send up a time capsule." Amy cocked her head. 'Them'? Who was 'them'?
"Maria was excited for it every time. And I quickly figured out why. The capsule was full of movies, records, books, all from the last year. The record always had about fifty of the newest song hits. Maria loved Elvis' music. I was more sparatic with it. I enjoyed Dream Lover, Earth Angel, Pink Shoelaces... Whatever song I felt a connection to."
It was a simple story when she thought about it, but it was enthralling. Shadow never talked about his time on the ark. She listened closely as he continued.
"But, it was the movies that really connected us to the ground. Maria liked Alice in Wonderland for its color, I liked Rear Window for its intrigue. Plus... I could relate to a character forced to watch the world from a windowsill. Instead of seeing it personally."
That last sentence made her stomach sink. "Shadow..."
"Now the world has changed so much, I..." He frowned. "It's been years since I was exposed to all of it, but I still feel like... I'm trying to catch up."
Amy wanted to hug him then and there, but she didn't know if Shadow would appreciate the gesture.
"Is... Is the festival making it worse?"
"I'm not sure," he admitted. His ears drooped when he said that.
She immediately started brainstorming things that might help him out. But how could she help? She can't rewind time for him! Plus, she didn't think he actually wanted that. She didn't have any experience with old technology. The only person she knew who did was her grandmother. Who owned an old record player, and hundreds of different records for it.
Shadow did just say he liked records. She wondered if she could...
"Hey Shadow?" He quirked an ear in her direction. "When you say 'records' you do mean vinyl, right? Like, record player stuff?"
He scoffed. "Of course, what else do you think was there in the fifties?"
"Just checking." He hummed and stared back at the lights. There was a slight pain in his eyes that she didn't notice before. It took a minute or two to gain the courage to ask.
"So, you don't want to go to the festival," she said.
"No."
"Then..." She took a deep breath. "How about we go somewhere else? Somewhere fun?"
He stiffened in a way that startled her. His voice, quiet. "We?" His quills got pricklier, his eyes widened slightly, his jaw clenched. As soon as it started, it vanished. His quills smoothed themselves back out, his eyes regained the apathetic look from before. The only thing still emotional was his voice. Which was shaky. "Rose..."
Was it that bad? Maybe she shouldn't have asked! He looked so horrified.
"Nevermind," she said quickly. "I get it. We hardly know each other, I-"
"Where would we go?" He said, while staring at her expectantly. She stopped. He wanted to go somewhere with her? You're really giving me mixed messages, dude!
"Well, you talking about records reminded me that my grandmother has tons of old records. She's out on vacation with my grandfather but I'm sure she'd let us borrow it for a while."
Shadow turned and stared at the ground between his feet. Thinking. Then he looked at her. "I thought you were going to the festival."
"Eh," said Amy. "I've been previous years, I can miss it this once. It's not going anywhere. You're more important anyway." And it was true, all the excitement she had for the festival was now orientated toward Shadow.
Which made her confident that the tug from earlier was for Shadow. Maybe there was even more turmoil in his mind than she thought.
Her sentence had stunned him into silence again. The same fear that he hated her response filled her stomach. It didn't last long, though. Because looking at his body language, he seemed fidgety, and his cheeks were slightly pinker that she remembered them being. Was he... Flustered?
Could you be possible that he was flustered earlier too? That could explain his shaky voice...
After a moment, he looked her in the eyes and nodded. "Just tell me where to go."
She grinned and clapped her hands together! "YES! Okay, okay, um. It's this yellow house by Acorn Street, right where-WOAH!"
She wasn't expecting such a swift movement from him, but in half a second, he was carrying her bridal style, and zooming toward her grandmother's house. It was remarkably quick, though, maybe that was redundant. Once they were nearby, Shadow slowed down to let her give him more directions. It was weird. She'd done this before. Being held in the arms of a speedy hedgehog of a hero, but Shadow was nothing like Sonic. Sonic wouldn't have slowed down for directions, he would've just tried every street until he found a house that fit her description.
And Sonic didn't hold her like Shadow was right now. Sonic would never drop her. She knew that, but his hold was far from secure, and it was very stressful. Shadow was completely different. He held her like she might break if he let go. It irraticated all the fears of falling off from the sheer speed. It was a strange mix of tranquillity and exhilaration.
It made her realize something. Something she'd always known, in a passive, subconsious, way, but never quite thought about. Shadow was his own person. He wasn't a Sonic clone, or a mindless android, he had his own wonderful personality. And as Amy looked up at his focused expression, Amy Rose became determined to find out more.
}{}{}{
Shadow heard the crunching of footsteps long before they were anywhere near him. The sound immediately soured his mood. He growled under his breath. The last this he wanted on this cursed day was for someone to bother him and his alone time.
Maybe they won't bother to check this hill, he thought to himself.
He focused back on the lights. Reds, yellows, greens, and even blues were blurring out the stars in the sky. Making it feel barren and lifeless. A stark contrast to the calm days in the ark. When they filled every window.
Lights. Lights of every color. When he was back on the ark, a blue lightbulb was merely a concept. A pipe dream. Now there were entire computers (that doubled as televisions). And you could fit them in the palm of your hand.
The festival irked him. He wasn't sure why. Something about prosperity and the future. But the future seemed to always go by too fast for him to keep up. And what good has the future ever done for him? All it seemed to do was take, and take, and take. Where's the prosperity in that? Sometimes he wished he could just- get a good taste of the past again.
It was an overly negative way to look at it. He knew that. But knowing something is irrational doesn't stop you from thinking it.
The footsteps stopped and he froze. Listening carefully.
Please just leave me alone.
After a very tense thirty seconds, the stranger did the one thing he said not to do.
He did his best to analyze the footsteps. They were different than before. Probably because they were climbing the hill. He refused to look towards where they were climbing. Maybe they would mistake him as just another patch of darkness in the forest.
As the footsteps reached the flatter part of the hill, the footsteps became more recognizable. Thick, heavy steps. Slightly off center. His insides went cold. The only person with boots that combersome was Amy Rose.
This had never happened before. He'd never been alone with her. He prefered it that way. Less likely to spill all the painfully romantic things that he felt for her. Things she didn't need to hear. Not when she was still into Sonic. Well, she never said she was still in love with Sonic, but she didn't not say it either. And he didn't dare hope.
He made a promise to himself, that if he saw Amy Rose, he would refuse to say some sappy romantic garbage. Be normal for two seconds. Please.
Amy was already atop the hill, and he could feel her stare right into his back.
"Um, Hi Shadow."
Be normal. "Hello, Rose."
She stepped closer and he felt his heartbeat speed up slightly. Something was definitely wrong with him. He spared a glance toward her, but her curious eyes met his for a moment, and he looked away. Back to the lights. At least they didn't make his heart spontaneously sparatic.
"So, you headed off to the festival too?" That stupid festival was the last thing he wanted to do. But instead of voicing all his contempt with the place, he simply shook his head.
He could still feel her eyes on him. Maybe he could talk to her a bit more than he was doing.
"Then why aren't you at home? What's the point of coming this close if you're not going to go in?"
He didn't respond to that, though it was clever of her.
He took a deep breath, Don't screw this up, Shadow. Don't say anything weird.
"Have you ever seen so much media for something that you feel you've lived through it?" Though he tried to look casual, he was worried this whole thing would weird Amy out. He certainly didn't deserve for Amy Rose to care for him.
She made the cutest face when she thought about his question. "...I don't know what you mean."
"Say, a time period for example."
Amy donned the same face as before. "Like how everything is about the 80s and 90s?"
"Yeah, something like that."
He must be cursed. Amy was always good at getting him to talk. How could you resist her when she was looking at him with the most faithful look. Like she trusted him.
He was talking, again.
"Once a year, on New Years, they would send up a time capsule." He watched her face for any excuse to stop. But she was already watching, curiously. "Maria was excited for it every time. And I quickly figured out why. The capsule was full of movies, records, and books all from the last year."
At least he wasn't outing himself as a hopeless romantic.
"The record always had about 50 of the newest song hits. Maria loved Elvis' music. I was more sparatic with it. I enjoyed dream lover, Earth Angel, pink shoelaces, whatever song I felt a connection to."
Amy was still watching him as he told his story. He couldn't be that interesting, right?
Shadow nervously continued.
"But, it was the movies that really connected us to the ground. Maria liked Alice in Wonderland for its colors, I liked Rear Window for its intrigue. Plus... I could relate to a character forced to watch the world from a windowsill. Instead of seeing it personally."
This got a reaction from her. "Shadow..." He forced himself to ignore it.
"Now the world has changed so much, I... It's been years since I was first exposed to all of it, but I still feel like... I'm trying to catch up."
Amy looked about ready to cry on his behalf. That felt like overkill in this situation, but that was something he admired about her. She wasn't afraid to have strong emotions about things.
"Is... Is the festival making it worse?" She asked. She managed to find the one question he didn't have a good answer.
"I'm not sure."
He watched Amy's face change from empathetic, to contemplative. Her eyebrows furrowing as she was thinking about something. She looked up at him again, and he had to shove down a fluttery feeling that appeared the second he looked at her. He looked back to the lights again.
"Hey, Shadow?" He turned an ear towards her. "When you say 'records', you do mean, vinyl, right? Like, record player stuff?"
He scoffed beside himself. "Of course, what else do you think was in the 50's?"
"Just checking," She muttered. That confused him. Checking for what? He resigned to this. He promised he would be normal about Rose, and he tried to refortify that by looking at the lights again. But, once again, the advanced technology he was staring at was slightly jarrring.
"So, you don't want to go to the festival," she started.
"No."
"Then..." She took a moment to find her words. "How about we go somewhere else? Somewhere fun?"
That- that broke him. "We?" They? Together? Run off to do whatever? Like, a date? A date with Amy Rose! It sounded too good to be true! And it was. It must've been! Right? There was no way it was possible! Not with the likes of him, she must've meant it platonically. He shook the foolish thought out of his mind. His quills-that he didn't know were pricked in the first place-smoothed down. And he tried to regain his composure. "Rose..." His voice was still shaking. He looked at her expression and tensed up. She seemed... scared. Had he done something scary? Did he ruin everything without even trying?
"Nevermind," she blurted. "I get it." No! She's going to leave me here? Say something! Something Intelligent! "We hardly know each other, I-"
"Where would we go?" He asked. Not perfect, but not threatening, or creepy. He could work with this.
"Well," again, she made an adorable face when she started thinking. "You talking about records reminded me that my grandmother has tons of old records. She's out on vacation with my grandfather, but I'm sure she'd let us borrow it for a while."
It was like he was finally getting reprieve from everything. Amy Rose, a taste of the past, the good part of the past, it was... Perfect. But what did she think of the whole thing?
"I thought you were going to the festival." He muttered. She handily brushed it aside.
"Eh, I've been previous years, I can miss this once. It's not going anywhere. You're more important, anyway."
'You're more important.'
'You're more important.'
'You're more important.'
How long has he been loving her on the sidelines, assuming that she saw nothing but a worse version of Sonic? But here she is, proving that wrong. Maybe he had a chance with her after all.
He shoved that thought down with the rest. Not now. We can think about it later. He'd forgotten comepletely about what was bothering him before. She was a miracle-worker. He looked her in her emerald eyes. "Just tell me where to go."
"YES!" She clapped her hands together, like she was genuinely excited for this. And he was starting to think she was. "Okay, okay, um. it's this yellow house by Acorn Street," he knew that area. "Right where-WOAH!"
He picked her up immediately, and shot off towards the street she said. After a few seconds he realized what he just did. He didn't ask, or warn her. He wasn't even subtle about this whole thing!
He glanced at her briefly. She seemed... Fine? Content, at the very least.
Note to self, don't just pick her up. That is weird. We're trying to be normal.
One day, one day, he would be able to tell her his feelings. And maybe one day, she'd reciprocate.
A/N: I grew up in America, so I was always fascinated by the festivals that other cultures have about blessing the year with good harvests and stuff. In certain parts of China, they have this blacksmith firework thing where they just straight up throw molten metal around. it's pretty sick.

Travel Blog: ADDAMS FAMILY FEST!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Westfield, New Jersey is where Addams Family creator: Charles Addams lived for the first 27 years of his life, and his close ties to this town are celebrated every October with: Addams Fest. While the festival itself is more of an all ages Halloween party (you will seriously find more people dressed as Disney princesses here than Addams Family characters), the town itself still celebrates the Addams Family and Charles Addams' work all around town.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Every October, all around Westfield you will see TONS of Addams Family art on many of the shops in town. While some the art just features the characters as you know them, some artists got a lot more creative with the task. The local arcade gets my vote for best art in town.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
However, the ultimate artistic highlight for me during my trip was seeing some of Charles Addams' art that was in the local gallery in town. While some of the art on display was some of his famous published art, other pieces on display included never before released art of his that had been found. Even though most of the art in the gallery did not feature the famous Addams Family, it still contained Charles Addams' creepy and kooky sense of humor.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
However, the crown jewel of the gallery was "Dudley": the original and lost member of the Addams Family. In reality, he is the oldest surviving drawing ever done by Charles Addams, and was actually drawn on a barn wall in town (young Charles Addams is known to have broken into peoples' homes during his youth). The wall he essentially drew graffiti on, ironically is a museum piece now. *I'll do another post about this gallery and Dudley another time.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Other fun sights to see in town that are Addams Family related in the month of October are Charles Addams' childhood home (appropriately decorated with some Addams Family style decorations), a model of the Addams Family home that sits inside the town lake, and the old cemetery in town that young Charles Addams apparently spent a great deal of time hanging out at (which can be visited year round).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
However, the majority of the organized activities in town for Addams Fest are more-so Halloween activities for all ages (with most daytime activities designed for very young children). If you're looking for some Addams Family Convention, this isn't that. This event is catered more to families with children looking for a fun Halloween party (so you may feel a little out of place if you're a single adult). However there are still lots of fun things to do in Westfield in October for adults. The outdoor music show I saw during the festival was fun (with young local energetic rock bands). Also, I found it nice and relaxing to walk up and down Elm Street (the street Charles Addams grew up on), and look at the old homes on the street. Also... there's video games to play in town...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The local arcade has tons of fun video games (both arcade and console), including (amongst many other things): Addams Family pinball! I spent a collective six hours here over the weekend. I enjoyed sampling new video games, and re-visiting some old favorites.
Tumblr media
However the ultimate non-Addams Family related event in town during my trip was at the local Acting Out theater, which did a fun original live show featuring many witches from film and TV over the years. The entire show was reminiscent of those old TV variety shows from the 1970's, with Glinda and Elphaba (from the Wizard of Oz) being the hosts. Despite the show being seemingly catered for children, I still got plenty of good laughs from the comedy and pop culture meta-humor in the show (such as when Elphaba goes all fan girl when mentioning Elsa from Frozen). Talent scouts for Broadway and Hollywood should definitely put all the ladies from this show on their radar.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Other fun things I did over the weekend also included trying the Addams Family themed food at Burger King (a promotion not just confined to New Jersey), and watching the famous 1970's Addams Family/ Scooby Doo crossover on television this weekend (the timing of the re-airing was simply a happy coincidence).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
If you are considering going to Addams Fest, be aware that most of the planned events are more-so just straight forward Halloween themed activities aimed at children (and not necessarily confined to the Addams Family in terms of themes). Also, the town is not some big city, and you will very likely see most of the sights you came to see in just under a day. However, if you are a hardcore Addams Family fan that wants to walk on the same ground Charles Addams walked on, see some of the sights that likely inspired him, see some fun Addams Family fan art in town, and also see some of Charles Addams' original work... Addams Fest in Westfield, New Jersey in the month of October is a must thing to do.

Chapter 2: Intoxicated Whispers of Realities
The weekend arrived, ushering in a torrent of neon lights, thundering music, and the infectious energy of the party scene. Chanyeol, the embodiment of excitement, managed to coerce Baekhyun into attending one of Sehun's legendary house parties. Reluctant but intrigued, Baekhyun found himself at the doorstep of a pulsating spectacle.
The thumping bass resonated through the air, mingling with the laughter and chatter that reverberated within the confines of Sehun's grand residence. Baekhyun, wearing a pair of black slacks, a plain white t-shirt and worn down sneakers, felt like a ghost in a sea of vivid hues and designer outfits.
Chanyeol tossed the keys to his G-wagon over to the valet and then proceeded to pull Baekhyun into the heart of the madness. The air was thick with the scent of alcohol, and the extravagant setting transformed into a kaleidoscope of colours, illuminated by vibrant neon lights and shrouded in a haze of smoke.
The grand entrance beckoned guests into a realm of luxury, adorned with exquisite marble statues that seemed to breathe life into the grandeur of the surroundings. Wait staff, poised with trays of tantalising drinks and pills, were stationed strategically to cater to Sehun's distinguished guests.
Inside, the party pulsated with life. A grand piano echoed with the notes of a skilled pianist, adding a touch of class to the vibrant chaos. The bar, a focal point of the festivities, boasted top-shelf liquor tended to by seasoned mixologists who crafted cocktails with finesse. The air was thick with the eclectic beats of the music, drawing people onto the dance floor where bodies swayed to the rhythm.
In one corner, a high-stakes poker game unfolded, the stakes rising with every round. For those seeking an even riskier and naughty thrill, a table nearby hosted a game of strip poker, laughter mingling with the suspense of the game. Outdoors, a massive pool became a hub of activity, with guests skinny dipping, and colourful floaties added a playful touch to the scene. The mansion, a playground of indulgence, buzzed with the heady cocktail of wealth and revelry.
"Come on, Baek! This shit is going to be fucking epic!" Chanyeol shouted over the music, leading Baekhyun through the chaotic dance floor.
As they navigated through the throngs of people, Chanyeol spotted a familiar face. "Yo, Sehun!" he hollered, beckoning for Baekhyun to follow.
Sehun, the stoic host of the wild affair, greeted them with a charismatic smile that barely masked his usually cold exterior. "Chanyeol, my man! Glad you could make it. And you have brought..?"
"This is Baekhyun," Chanyeol introduced, giving Baekhyun a playful nudge. "He's a bit new to the scene, but he's catching up."
Sehun extended a hand, impeccably dressed in head-to-toe Dior, his sharp gaze assessing Baekhyun. "Welcome, Baekhyun. Enjoy the party."
Baekhyun, feeling like a small fish in a vast, tumultuous ocean of debauchery, managed a polite nod. Sehun, his usually icy demeanour slightly thawed by Chanyeol's association, continued to judge Baekhyun based on his attire, silently questioning the connection between him and Chanyeol.
Sehun's opulent mansion played host to an exclusive gathering of affluent individuals, a meticulously curated assembly of young heirs draped in extravagance from head to toe. Adorned in scrupulously tailored ensembles and accessorised with the finest trappings, they emitted an unmistakable scent of wealth. Sehun's discerning eye had carefully selected guests who promised both social prestige and business potential.
In this high-society party setting, the guests shed their reserved exteriors, revealing a different facet of their personalities. While outside the walls of the mansion, they were draped in the veneer of propriety and formality, within its confines, inhibitions were cast aside. Laughter rang out unrestrained, and the grandiosity of the mansion provided the perfect backdrop for the elite to indulge in their most lavish desires. The atmosphere pulsated with unrestrained energy as Sehun's carefully chosen attendees let loose.
Chanyeol guided Baekhyun through various conversations and social circles, urging him to embrace the madness. Soon after, Baekhyun excused himself and wandered off to a quiet corner.
In a secluded alcove, shielded from the rhythmic beats, Sehun, draped in an air of haughty refinement, strolled up to Baekhyun. "Couldn't help but notice that Chanyeol's taken a liking to you. How's the party treating you?"
Baekhyun, caught off guard by Sehun's sudden attention, managed a modest smile. "Feeling a bit like the odd one out tonight to be honest."
Sehun, maintaining his aristocratic air, raised a disdainful eyebrow as he scrutinised Baekhyun's attire. "Well, you're certainly not…well prepared for the occasion."
Baekhyun, sensing the subtle arrogance, glanced at his choice of clothing. "Didn't expect this level of... extravagance."
Sehun, with a condescending smirk, replied, "Consider it a tip for next time. Dress the part. It's rather crucial if you want to run in these circles."
As Sehun gracefully navigated the party, Baekhyun found himself on the fringes of Sehun's exclusive circle, savouring morsels of conversations and glimpses of a more relaxed Sehun.
Driven by curiosity, he approached one of Sehun's friends, masking his interest with an air of casual conversation. "Hey, you know Sehun well?"
The friend, assessing Baekhyun with a hint of curiosity and scepticism, responded, "Yeah, we go way back. What's up?"
Baekhyun, feigning nonchalance, hesitated before delving into his inquiry. "What's his deal?”
The friend, sipping on their drink, chuckled knowingly. "Sehun tends to keep a cool exterior, especially with those outside his circle. But when he loosens up with a few drinks, it's a different story. Lucky for you, he's in a friendlier mood tonight." Hm, If you say so.
Playing the innocent card, Baekhyun probed further with subtlety. "Any idea why he's so fixated on my..clothes?"
The friend, offering a cryptic smile, shrugged casually. "Sehun values appearances highly and tends to scrutinise how people fit into his world. He believes that gaining entry is no casual affair, and not just anyone can seamlessly become part of his trusted circle or the circles of those he holds close."
As Baekhyun processed this revelation, he listened intently to the friend's insight into Sehun's world. Little did he know that this seemingly extravagant night would unravel layers of social intricacies, leaving him on the precipice of the unpredictable twists and turns that awaited him.
At another end of the party, Sehun approached one of his inner circle mates, a trusted confidant who had been with him through thick and thin. "Do you know anything about that guy, Baek..something?"
The friend, glancing at Baekhyun from a distance, replied, "Not much. He's a scholarship student. Almost never seen in social circles. People say he's…middle class."
Sehun, sipping his drink, raised an eyebrow. "Interesting. What's he doing here, then?"
The friend continued, "But here's the twist. One of our friends is in his class, and they say he's like.. a genius. Top of his class. Professor Harrington’s favourite. Got the brains, apparently."
Sehun, absorbing this unexpected revelation, contemplated the incongruity of Baekhyun's presence in the extravagant setting. The information lingered in the air as he continued to observe Baekhyun from afar, wondering what hidden layers lay beneath the surface of the scholarship student.
The night unfolded in a symphony of conversations, music and laughter echoing through Sehun's grand residence. There were semi-nude people sitting around the large oak dining table and playing strip poker. There were wait staff stationed everywhere, making sure the guests were served whatever they wish- drinks, pills and marijuana infused finger foods.
Baekhyun sought refuge on the balcony amidst the swirling haze of smoke and the distant thumps of the bass.
His gaze wandered to Chanyeol, on a mission to be the life of the party, as he was being held upside-down at the keg, while elsewhere, students indulged in various degrees of intoxication. Baekhyun shook his head at the sight of two blokes snorting cocaine off the belly of a naked woman, silently disapproving.
Seeking a reprieve from the clamour, Baekhyun stepped onto the balcony. The cool night air offered a stark contrast to the heat and chaos inside. Lost in contemplation, he was caught off guard when Y/N appeared beside him.
"Hey! You're the guy that helped me out outside the exam hall! I’m so sorry I don’t think I caught your name" Y/N's voice cut through the ambient noise, her eyes sparkling with recognition.
Baekhyun, startled by her sudden presence, managed a sheepish smile. "Baekhyun, Hi! Yeah... I hope your exam went well."
Y/N nodded, a mischievous grin playing on her lips. "I’m Y/N. And it did, all thanks to you. What are you doing out here? The party's inside, you know."
Baekhyun glanced inside and back at her. "Honestly, I’d much rather be listening to my records in the dorm than be in there," he confessed.
Y/N assessed him from top to bottom. "Well, you have to try it to knock it, right?" Before Baekhyun could respond, she grabbed his arm and led him back into the lively gathering.
Inside, Y/N called for attention, her friends turning curious gazes towards Baekhyun. "Hey, everyone! This is Baekhyun. He's the life-saver who helped me out during the exams!"
The group erupted into cheers, and Y/N continued to regale them with the tale of Baekhyun's timely assistance. The sudden attention overwhelmed him, but he couldn't resist the genuine warmth of Y/N's gratitude.
Sehun, observing from a distance, couldn't ignore the commotion. His girlfriend and her friends were fawning over Baekhyun, and his jaw tightened in response. Masking his irritation with a tight-lipped smile, he approached the group.
"What's going on here, my love?" he asked Y/N, his eyes fixed on Baekhyun.
Y/N beamed at Sehun. "Well~Baekhyun here saved the day during the exams. Isn't that amazing?"
Sehun, suppressing his annoyance, forced a smile. "I see. Thanks for helping my girlfriend, Baekhyun," he said, emphasising the possessiveness. "Well, I would definitely say that this calls for more shots." Sehun signalled one of the waitstaff, who promptly brought a tray filled with shot glasses filled with very strong, expensive spirits and liquors and some colourful pills. Sehun pushed a glass and a pink pill into Baekhyun's hands, subtly making sure he joined in on the drinking. The group then clinked their shot glasses and popped the pills on their tongues before downing the shots.
As the shots flowed freely, Baekhyun found more and more drinks being handed to him, and he caught himself in the whirlwind of the ‘celebration’. The alcohol blurred the edges of his consciousness, and Sehun, with a sly grin, continued to encourage him to indulge. By the time the ninth shot was downed, Baekhyun's head was spinning, and he excused himself.
Stumbling through the dimly lit house, Baekhyun approached Sehun for directions to the nearest restroom. Sehun, subtly relieved to be rid of the unexpected party guest, casually pointed him in a random direction.
Alone in the dimly lit hallway, Baekhyun felt the weight of the alcohol hitting him. As he turned a corner, he heard the raucous laughter and clinking glasses behind him. The scene was too much, and he couldn't shake off the uneasy feeling that he was out of his depth.
In his unsteady state, Baekhyun stumbled into an open door, expecting a bathroom. To his horror, he found himself in a room where a bunch of people were having an orgy. One of the guys, clearly high, signalled him to join them while someone else hurled their heel at him to shut the door. Caught off guard, he blurted out an apology and he quickly shut the door.
The embarrassment lingered as Baekhyun tried to regain his composure. The events of the night had taken an unexpected turn, and he couldn't shake off the feeling that he was navigating uncharted territory.
As Baekhyun walked away, he glanced back to see Sehun making a grand show of hugging and kissing Y/N. A twinge of discomfort gnawed at him, but he decided to retreat. Leaving the chaos of the party behind, Baekhyun stumbled back to his dorm, the events of the night replaying in his mind.
After a hasty shower and a violent bout of vomiting, Baekhyun changed into his pajamas. He settled into bed, the room spinning as he drifted into a restless sleep, unaware of the storm that had been set in motion during that fateful night at Oxford.

am I wrong for finding outdoor music festivals really lame
maybe I haven't been to a big enough one with a crazy sound system but the trudging through mud, dancing on dirt, being stuck in a crowd too big to see the band playing, having to deal with the sound bouncing off nothing, the pricing of any food items, the majority of the people who attend, all of it sucks to me, it's like a music themed amusement park for adult children
I like the camping with my friends though

read my old fics, you cowards! these are majority witcher fics, because i have an illness.
silly goofy modern au
how long we were fool'd - jaskier/yennefer(&geralt)
married neighbors yennskier, suburban dad!geralt, modern witchers, little kid ciri, aroace geralt, relationship misunderstandings, borzoi roach, supernatural mystery, some canon-typical violence, found family nonsense, and my own clairvoyance in writing yennskier husband-wife but it was spring 2020
(don't) poke the sleeping dragon - jaskier/yennefer/geralt
a retelling of bottled appetites but it's a nerdy fantasy music festival, copious drug use, yennefer's sick wizard van, unicorn edibles, golden dragon dildos, outdoor sex, geralt getting pegged and double penetrated, a dialogue only threesome, accidental yearning old friend geraskier tenderness, and someone once told me they wouldn't read this fic because yen had her tits out in the summary and i will always remember that criticism for the rest of my life
as if you were a mythical thing - yennefer/geralt
old married couple, dom/sub dynamics, sex unicorn mention, geralt is very vanilla but loves his kinky wife, and he's too autistic about horses not to ruin ponyplay with horse facts
this one might hurt
long on the road & how light carries on - geralt/jaskier (eventual geralt/regis in the sequel, plus many platonic relationships)
the 80s trucker/hitchhiker au that got away from me, vietnam vet trucker geralt, aging hippie musician jaskier, AIDS crisis, terminal illnesses, dealing with mortality, falling in love, road tripping, copious american geography, period-typical queer community issues, and then... life after loss, aging, grief and mourning, queer and traumatized family dynamics both found and otherwise, finding love again, and watching the sun set on a life well lived
in dark and twisted braids - fringilla &/ yennefer
aretuza school days slumber parties, girlhood crushes, pining, unrequited love, i shook a sorceress and intergenerational trauma fell out, the inherent adolescent horror of making lasting decisions about your future when you are barely 18 but even worse because there's war and violence and permanent alterations to your body and forced sterilization and your little schoolgirl crush on someone you thought was a friend ends in betrayal and bloodshed and you end up on opposite sides of the war and she never even looked your way or thought about you and--
then send down the storm - aiden/lambert, lambert/geralt(/yennefer)
witcher roadtripping, just guys being dudes, horse stuff, winter at kaer morhen polyamory but different, ~trauma~, the mortifying ordeal of accepting you deserve more from life and also of being known, but it's too late (or is it?), grief and mourning and loss and love that was worth its loss, and also, the character death(s) are largely temporary.
aw that just ain't right :/
the witch in her tower - eskel/yennefer(/geralt)
dark fic, fairytale elements, hurt no comfort (mind the tags), morally dubious heartbroken yennefer, pining and years of yearning for geralt eskel, unrequited love, non-consensual mind control during sex, flashbacks to messed up witcher child abuse and violence and cruelty, the inherent horror of mutated and manipulated little boys becoming men who think they can't or shouldn't love paralleled with the inherent horror of enchanted and manipulated little girls becoming women who-- you get it.
the flesh calmly going cold - geralt/jaskier
this one's gross for real, a hunt gone wrong, hurt NO comfort, major character death and it's gross and tragic, gore, necrophilia, organs lovingly described (and jizzed on), basically it's just like that scene in twn where filavandrel exploded but if francesca humped his goo after. sorry.
blood of the covenant (water of the womb) - geralt/&renfri, geralt/stregobor
supernatural pregnancy body horror as revenge, ......pregobor, black sun princess trauma and curses, apocalyptic monster fetus imagery, it's about women and violence against women and evil men suffering for inflicting that violence mostly, and also the evils of standing by and watching evil happen. also, yes stregobor is magical yucky bella swan pregnant and then bad stuff happens to everybody.

It's the final Friday of our favorite month here on the farm and we could not be happier to have another round of community faves to share with you today.
As we close out on this spooky season, we hope you all have a chance to gather around the cauldron with your favorite bevvie and reading device while basking in the glow of your latest connoction.
Be sure to leave the writers some love!
==========================
at the right time, in the right surroundings (spelling__bee/ @emotional-synth-music)  “Iconic classic 5+1 about Patrick Brewer experiencing new things.”
Freedom is You (julesp87) “This is such a fun story about D&P meeting at an outdoor music festival. There is no angst, just tons of sweetness. Definitely a feel-good fic.”
How Do We Get Back (@unfolded73) “This fic! I have reread it and listened to its podfic (by Amanita_Fierce) so often, I have parts of it memorized. David has been able to hang on to his gallery despite a hit to the family finances. Patrick has married Rachel despite reservations. They cross paths in a NYC bar right before the world starts to fall apart, and it becomes clear that they are drawn to each other for a reason. There’s more than a little angst, so read the tags, but if you’re up for the adventure, this is an amazing, well-plotted, dreamy, and thoughtful alternative universe to experience.”
Library Boy (@apothecarose) “Every time I saw an update for this I was so excited! It's a great AU and I loved the way the relationship between David and Patrick built up and developed over time. It's such a wonderful romantic story, so well thought out and beautifully told.” Spill (thingswithwings)  “As the author notes in her tags -the themes of the episode taken to their logical and inevitable conclusion. This is a very hot fic, but it also explores themes of intimacy, trust and control in an achingly beautiful way that is SO David and Patrick. It also does that thing where Patrick takes a thing David is ashamed of and loves him more for it. It's so freaking good. Just give it some love!”

Oral tradition and storytelling hold a revered and enduring place in Afro-Bahamian culture, serving as a foundational practice for preserving heritage, history, and cultural values across generations. The roots of this oral tradition extend back to West African cultures, where storytelling was central to cultural continuity, education, and community life. Afro-Bahamians have maintained and evolved these traditions, blending them with Caribbean and Bahamian influences to create a rich tapestry of narratives that reflect their unique experiences, identity, and worldview.
Oral tradition in Afro-Bahamian culture goes beyond entertainment; it is a mechanism of cultural preservation, a medium of education, and a source of identity. Stories passed down through oral means serve as “living histories,” chronicling ancestral experiences, significant events, social norms, and moral values that are essential to community life. Through storytelling, older generations impart wisdom and life lessons to younger ones, covering topics as diverse as resilience, love, bravery, and the importance of community. For Afro-Bahamians, storytelling is often a way to affirm their connection to African ancestry while also highlighting their adaptation and resilience within the Bahamian context.
Tumblr media
Afro-Bahamian storytelling includes a variety of forms, such as folk tales, myths, historical recounts, parables, and personal anecdotes. Among the most popular are Anansi stories, which center around the clever and mischievous spider Anansi, a figure borrowed from West African folklore. Anansi tales often revolve around themes of cleverness, cunning, and justice, and they serve as both moral lessons and sources of humor. Anansi’s character embodies the idea of “outsmarting” rather than overpowering, reflecting the wisdom of adaptability and intelligence as tools for survival and success.
In addition to Anansi tales, Afro-Bahamian oral tradition also includes historical stories and ancestral accounts, which often recount the struggles, resilience, and achievements of Afro-Bahamians throughout history. These stories frequently explore the experiences of enslaved people brought to the Bahamas and how they preserved their identity despite the hardships of colonization. Narratives of freedom, survival, and resistance are prominent, helping Afro-Bahamians connect with their past while fostering pride in their heritage.
Tumblr media
Storytelling in Afro-Bahamian culture is inherently social, often taking place within community gatherings, family settings, and during festive events. These stories are traditionally passed down during intimate family gatherings, community celebrations, or in informal settings like porches and outdoor spaces where elders gather with younger community members. Within these settings, the storytelling experience is participatory, as listeners often engage by responding, asking questions, or even adding their own versions or interpretations of the story. This shared experience reinforces the sense of community and mutual responsibility, as stories become the collective property of the group.
Tumblr media
The art of storytelling is also embodied in specific Bahamian celebrations, such as Junkanoo, the colorful festival that showcases Bahamian history and identity through dance, music, and costume. Although primarily a visual and performative event, Junkanoo embodies the spirit of Afro-Bahamian storytelling by reenacting historical narratives and myths, often through characters who represent figures from folklore or Bahamian history.

In Afro-Bahamian culture, the storyteller holds a respected role within the community. Often an elder or someone with a gift for words, the storyteller is seen as a custodian of tradition and a conveyor of wisdom. They are trusted to maintain the integrity of the stories while also interpreting and adapting them to ensure relevance to contemporary life. Skilled storytellers may use rhythm, song, humor, and even improvisation to captivate their audience, ensuring that stories are not only memorable but also engaging.
Tumblr media
Many Afro-Bahamian storytellers employ call-and-response, a rhythmic and participatory style rooted in African oral traditions, where the audience plays an active role. This technique helps to engage listeners and make the stories more immersive, turning the storytelling session into a communal event where everyone, regardless of age, can feel involved and connected.
Tumblr media
With modernization, the role of oral storytelling in Afro-Bahamian culture faces both challenges and opportunities. The rise of digital media, globalization, and a shift away from traditional lifestyles mean that young people today may have fewer opportunities to hear and participate in oral storytelling as their parents or grandparents did. However, there is a growing movement within the Bahamas to preserve these traditions. Efforts are being made by cultural organizations, schools, and community groups to keep the art of storytelling alive through organized events, storytelling festivals, and educational programs focused on Bahamian history and folklore.
Tumblr media
Furthermore, technology is being harnessed to help preserve these stories. Audio recordings, podcasts, and social media platforms are increasingly being used to share Afro-Bahamian folk stories, ensuring that they reach a wider audience, including the Bahamian diaspora. This digital adaptation helps bridge the generational gap, allowing younger Bahamians and those abroad to access, enjoy, and pass on these cultural treasures.
Tumblr media
Afro-Bahamian storytelling is rich with moral and cultural values, many of which emphasize the importance of community, resilience, respect for elders, and justice. Themes of collective responsibility, kinship, adaptability, and respect for heritage are interwoven throughout these narratives. For example, tales involving clever, trickster characters often underscore the importance of intelligence and quick thinking in overcoming adversity—an enduring message that reflects the Afro-Bahamian experience of survival and adaptation throughout history.
Storytelling also reinforces family and social bonds, as stories often include lessons about respect, kindness, and cooperation, emphasizing the values that keep the community strong. These narratives remind listeners that every individual has a role to play in the greater good of society, encouraging them to act with integrity and compassion.
Tumblr media
In Afro-Bahamian culture, storytelling and oral tradition are far more than pastimes; they are integral parts of cultural expression, education, and continuity. By keeping the voices of ancestors alive, these stories offer a sense of identity, place, and purpose. They allow Afro-Bahamians to celebrate their unique heritage, honor the resilience of those who came before them, and pass down timeless wisdom to future generations. Through storytelling, Afro-Bahamians connect to both their African roots and their Bahamian home, weaving a cultural legacy that continues to shape and enrich their collective identity.
