((HI ITS @THEFINALWITNESS)) UR TAGS FILLED ME WITH SUCH UNEXPECTED JOY I AM CHEWING AND GNAWING AT THEM. Y'SHTOLA RHUL IS SO SELF-DESTRUCTIVELY BENEVOLENT AND LOVING AND I AM GOING CRAZY FEELING LIKE SO FEW PPL SEE THAT!!! SHE LOVES THE WOL!!! IT DOESN'T MATTER IF WE INTERPRET IT PLATONICALLY OR ROMANTICALLY OR ANYTHING ELSE SHE *LOVES* THE WARRIOR OF LIGHT SO MUCH.
the way her dialogue with the player changes after reuniting in rak'tika will live rent free in my brain forever. i could not BELIEVE the shift but it struck out to me immediately how obvious it was she was lowkey reeling from a combination of "what is fucking happening to you" and "i can't believe i almost killed you" and "i'm so fucking happy to see™ you" and "i wish i could see™ YOU and not whatever is HAPPENING to you" AND IT'S SO!!!! HOW DOES THIS NOT REND PEOPLE TO SHREDS ON THE SPOT. HOW CAN ANYONE CALL HER BORING OR JUST THE COOL KNOWER OF THINGS. TAKE HER TO VANASPATI AND TELL ME SHE'S BORING OR ONE-DIMENSIONAL. I'M THROWING ROCKS (NOT AT YOU I'M OVERJOYED BY YOUR TAGS THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR RESTORING MY FAITH IN Y'SHTOLA NATION)
YEAH!! YEAH !!!!!
Tumblr media
and regardless of platonic vs romantic interpretation, even her famously memeable moments are indicative of a genuine care for the wol. like, pre-shadowbringers y'shtola would not have made a casual sexual joke toward you, let alone several. that can be read as flirting or as the kind of dumb shit that two best friends say to each other, but it doesn't matter!! she's opened up to wol enough to banter on that level!! on urianger ass slap level!! but everyone just uses it as milf fuel! STAY AWAY FROM HER !!!!
the "I wish I had the echo so I could see into your heart without the need for words" moment! again, regardless of whether or not you read that as platonic or romantic, it's indicative of great care! she's saying "I want to understand you. actually, I do understand you because even without knowing what happened, I know that this was immensely painful and I don't want to inflict it upon you again." and then she prefaces asking the wol to recount the events with "when you're ready" .... I also vaguely recall a time (don't remember the expac so if someone knows pls say so) when everyone was ragging on alphinaud and y'shtola was the one to be like "okay hey, this is a bit too much. let's cut it out."
her calling out thancred during shadowbringers and holding him accountable for his behavior toward minfilia/ryne? love. always asking the wol to accompany her and help her observe ruins/artifacts/etc. and asking for their opinions (which is also keeping the wol in her constant sight™ in the event of the slightest change)? love. her being the one to voice that ryne should have her own name because she doesn't deserve to live in someone else's shadow? love. she's a lover. she's brutally honest and she's a reliable friend and everything that she does is rooted in love because she wouldn't ever put in so much effort or hold such high standards for something she didn't care about. one of the most layered and interesting characters in this entire game, not just waifu bait. god.

Hi please explain about fabianxadaine???
Okay since you asked so nicely here's the fucking thing about Fabadaine
First, some background info
Before we dive in, you should know a couple things. For one, I'm a firm bad kid polycule truther. You could truly pitch me any pairing/grouping of those kiddos and I could find a really ineresting and/or sweet dynamic to eat the drywall about
You should also know that I'm gonna most likely remember some details during this analysis - if you spot them, please let me know by putting them in a bottle and throwing them into the ocean.
Second, some character meta
Adaine O'Shaughnessey is a girl with a lot of courage. It's sort of her defining character trait. The idea of "a wizard with an anxiety disorder" brings to mind someone pretty timid, who's afraid of speaking their mind. But from her first appearance, we see clearly that to Adaine, her disorder is pretty explicitly medical. On her first day of freshman year, she's already talking back to her horrible parents and trying to stand up for herself. Long before she gets access to medication, her disorder hinders her the way an asthma attack might; it has no bearing on her willingness to do the courageous thing.
Relatedly, Adaine thrives under adversity. Not abuse or mistreatment, mind - what I mean is that she likes it when people push back at her a little, so that she has opportunities to test her ideas and opinions against dissent. Look at her dynamic with Aelwyn in season three. Those two bicker and banter; they poke at each other, but it's how they're expressing things like concern or pride.
You could argue, probably well, that this is a product of sisterhood, and a product of their history in particular. But I think there's more to it than that. We see throughout the show that Adaine is a person who cares about exceeding; about learning and growing and achieving great things. It's classic wizard.
Adaine is the child of the wealthy and the important, and that shapes everything about her. It influences her struggles; her abandonment issues in particular. But it also shapes her goals, her values, and her attitudes. She seeks recognition for her skills and her labor, and she wants the people she loves to challenge her so that she can grow and make them proud.
Fabian Seacaster is the son of a famous man and a natural talent. His showmanship is clear and evident from the first moments we see him, and it's reflected in his character build from the start. He's a Champion Fighter, after all.
This showmanship is, frankly, a testament to Lou Wilson's masterful understanding of characters. That single trait can be picked apart to help us understand everything about him.
Fabian is a showman because he was raised as the scion of an up-and-coming house; given every tool he needed to learn his parents' skills, and to prepare him to take the Seacaster name when the time comes.
Fabian is a showman because he believes wholeheartedly in his own greatness. His whole life, he's been surrounded by tutors whose whole job it has been to mold him into the perfect son, and they were paid enough to care about doing it right.
Fabian is a showman because he knows he's earned his own arrogance; wealth or not, pampered lifestyle or not, we see him scold his fencing teacher when he goes easy on him. Fabian isn't blinded by his privilege (or at least not entirely) - he genuinely cares about being the best, and he'll give up the luxury if it means greatness.
Fabian is a showman because he's deeply anxious. Bill and Hallariel clearly love their son, but being the only child of a world-famous pirate, tasked with being their emissary to Solace for future generations, is an unbelievable amount of pressure. Fabian has to be perfect to the world outside. He can't just be good; he can't just be great; he has to be Fabian Aramais Seacaster, Son of the Famous Bill Seacaster!
Fabian is a showman because he has to figure out who he is, somehow. Who is he, outside of his father? He certainly doesn't know, but suddenly he realizes he has to know, for his own sake. So he does what any kid does when they're trying to figure out their identity - they act out.
Finally, what I understand about Fabadaine that nobody else does
Fabian Seacaster and Adaine O'Shaughnessey are the children of the wealthy; the important. They're both second generation Solesians, sent out to represent their families. They're both ambitious people who are trying to achieve great things outside the expectations of their parents. They're both proud and straightforward, prioritizing their values over social niceties.
Adaine and Fabian both carry the swords of their dead fathers.
To put it simply - Fabian and Adaine are really good foils for each other, and I dislike when their dynamic is reduced to classic highschool boyfriend/girlfriend tropes.
As an example, a number of fics I've read have Fabian pursuing Adaine, and that simply doesn't hold up. Let's be honest here - Fabian has terrible taste in women, and has a bad track record of making the more self-destructive choice whenever romance is on the table. I have no doubt he likes Adaine, but he would also know that she'd hold him accountable and challenge him when he makes stupid choices. No, Adaine is the one initiating here.
The thing that really draws me to this pair is because both of them need and want to be challenged, but each of them has a different attitude towards challenging others, and it makes for an active dynamic that can evolve in a lot of interesting ways.
You know what, check back later. I need to write fic about this.

Extermination 8.3
Oh fucking boy
Tumblr media
This isn't a really revelatory passage, it's just like. Even more reinforcement that Leviathan is a fucking beast. More dead, more downed.
Tumblr media
Taylor the fact that you even bothered to show up is above and beyond what should ever be asked of you, you are fifteen for fuck's sake, staking your life against the defeat of a hateful animate Splash Mountain is not your fucking purview! You should be playing Minecraft or something!
Tumblr media
"Sorry I wasn't traumatized in a way that lets me save your life" Hello??
Tumblr media
I can't imagine Taylor gets to feel like a part of most communities, honestly. Also I'm not sure that the cape community is any kind of monolith, so whether she "fits in" with them all is kind of moot.
Tumblr media
Byyyye, Iron Falcon.
Tumblr media
That's such a funny thing to ask somebody, honestly.
Tumblr media
And then this is a crazy hardcore thing to ask somebody. This arc does a lot to establish that Skitter is just straight up on another level when it comes to comfort on the battlefield compared to even veteran capes, girl will nearly get pulped by Neptune's fucking wrath and then wonder why other people died while she's still conscious
Tumblr media
Oh, Taylor. I'm so sorry, he only gets worse the more layers you get into him.
Also. Okay so Gregor the Snail felt like a pretty sympathetic perspective on how fatphobia stings people, but the life and death of Chubster in the realm of this story... kinda sucks. Like oh no, he's too heavy for Skitter to save him, have to leave him to drown I guess. I'm not saying it's an impossible circumstance, it just feels crass to have it in.
Tumblr media
Hey Flechette, keep up the good work girl
The thing I keep coming back to with the Endbringers is that. Okay. These things have been causing horrific damage, mass death, and world-changing devastation for decades, and they've never been killed, and only one cape has ever meaningfully made the things fuck off in the history of ever. They are considered to be the most likely cause of extinction for humanity. Every time it seems like they're winning, even in the short-term, it's just the setup for another knockdown. It's giving them hope just so the despair hits deeper. What are the odds that's on purpose? What are the odds that everything the Endbringers suffer except Scion is just play-acting for them? Selling the capes' moves like it's a wrestling match, even as they don't feel a goddamn thing.
What if it's all just a sick game to an alien god?
Tumblr media
This is so cool and so, so fucking dire.
Tumblr media
God that's dark
Tumblr media
Sacrifice play. Some desperate attempt to redeem himself in the public view maybe? A genuine belief that he can make this stick? I dunno. It doesn't matter, unfortunately.
Tumblr media
What a way to sell the fucking outrageous devastation that this monster unleashes in the span of. What, an hour? Less?
Also hey what good is all the missiles and lasers and forcefields if Leviathan is just gonna pick the whole PHQ up and smash it onto the shoreline
So many goddamn downed, it's crazy. And y'know, knowing the rest of the arc we know Tattletale's still standing but of course Skitter is fucked up over losing Tattletale, that's the last person she's got who's willing to extend a hand towards her.
Tumblr media
Most powers are dead useless here let's be real
Tumblr media
Hey, good job Eidolon
Tumblr media
Fucking brave of y'all to be shooting Bakuda bombs anywhere in the same ZIP code as someone you care about, but also god it would be so cool if this had actually worked. Just fucking lock Leviathan down in time out for a hundred years or so, buy that much time? Shame it fails.
Tumblr media
Well. I'm not gonna miss the fucking Nazis, but rip in peace Dauntless, we hardly knew ye.
Tumblr media
Triumvirate member tagged out. Alexandria was already down for the count, wasn't she? Or she at least stopped showing up at some point, so now it's just Eidolon repping the Big Three
although I guess if you asked Eidolon he'd call it "just Big Me"
Tumblr media
First dead kid out of the lot, I think, if we don't count Falcon dying off the battlefield. Sorry, Shielder. I think Leviathan knew you were strong enough to keep being a problem. Gotta be fucking awful for Laserdream though, watching your brother die violently in front of you is. I actually can't imagine, thank fuck.
And then Sundancer down but not out. Honestly if anyone was gonna have decent odds of doing damage I'd have given it to The Fucking Sun, but that doesn't do much for defense does it.
Tumblr media
Fucking outrageously brutal, god.
Tumblr media
Man. I didn't even think about the fact that this thing is silent the entire time. No Godzilla roars or shit the entire time, nothing except for the rush of water.
Tumblr media
Clockblocker keeps coming in clutch to save the day against citywide threats... Someone please for the love of god stop putting these children in the line of fire.
Also interesting that Taylor might be the only one here whose first response is to get him out of the water, for all that he's been her enemy.
Tumblr media
Clever.
Tumblr media
Taylor can be really harshly judgmental at times but I'm gonna be real I'm with her on this one, Trickster what the actual fuck is your problem. Like good job I guess but what the hell.
Tumblr media
Y'know, the fucked up thing is that Armsmaster actually isn't wrong here, and his plan could've worked if he was, uhh. Genuine about it.
Tumblr media
Does everybody's ability to give a speech go down the fucking toilet when an Endbringer is within half a mile of them? Is that what it is?
Current Thoughts
Wildbow really fucking knows how to put a battle together. Our POV character isn't actually fighting through 95% of this entire arc (and maybe shouldn't have been fighting in that 5% but we'll get there) but you feel just totally surrounded by the death and devastation that's raining down on all sides.
Unfortunately, I think it's about time for Armsmaster's big reveal on how to lose an arm and a shitload of credibility in record timing.

Hi! What are your opinions on each of the greens ?
Have a good day/night!
Otto: I think he gets a bad rap, not in absolute terms but relatively to the people like Viserys and Daemon. If you hate Otto for pushing Alicent to marry Viserys, you should hate Viserys much, much more. Otto is "merely" complicit in what happened. There was no one Vissy could've said no to more effectively than Otto. It just goes to a double standard you see a lot with these farcical black-green debates where people change their opinions on whether it's ok to judge people by in-universe standards depending on what "team" they're a part of. He has a habit of telling unfortunate truths that get him in trouble, but most of the things he says are just, like, objectively true, but people don't want to hear it. Daemon is actually a danger to the realm and his brother, Rhaenyra does actually have to give the scions of great houses a hearing, Daemon did actually groom Rhaenyra to claim the throne, Alicent's children do pose an inherent threat to Rhaenyra by their mere existence.
From a Doylist perspective, like many other things, I think episode 9 really butchered Otto's character. All of a sudden the guy who has been working hand in hand with his daughter for the past few episodes didn't tell her about the plot to seat her son on the throne??? And now the guy who got fired by Aegon for being too slow and measured in his war planning is pushing to kill Rhaenyra immediately? And he wants to send the Kingsguard to do clandestine assassin work? And he's reluctant to ban child fighting pits for like no reason? I'm sorry, you don't have to be a feminist to not like that!
Alicent: I have talked about her at length. Nixonian Queen. I kneel. The war will make her worse, and I enjoy it. One of the characters I think on-balance the show improved.
Criston: Not a good guy by any means, but dismissing him as just a resentful incel is just boring. It's very clear he was, at best, conflicted about his tryst with Rhaenyra to begin with - he liked her, they had a lot of chemistry, but he does genuinely believe in his vows. The marriage thing is obviously silly and naive, but from his perspective it's him trying to do right by her (and also preserve himself and his soul), which puts him a step above many other Westerosi men who canonically often feel no obligations to the women they sleep with outside of marriage or the children created. There is a real difference in values between him and Rhaenyra that goes beyond him hating women, even if his values aren't strictly speaking good. I'm sorry, but the fact that a Westerosi man is as sexually repressed as an average Westerosi woman is genuinely a point in his favor! I sincerely hope he and Alicent make each other worse. Substantially improved by the show.
Aegon: This is going to be controversial, but baffling/over-the-top/ill-thought-out decisions like Dyana and the child fighting pits aside, I much prefer this version of Aegon to F&B. I don't care that he's kind of pathetic, that's fun, that's drama, that gives room for character development and growth into the king he ends up becoming. It's clear the writers do want Aegon to be kind of sympathetic, but it seems they didn't consider what stuff like Dyana would do to that, which to me indicates they meant the focus of that scene to be Alicent and her behavior, not Aegon. Which is stupid. One of the worse victims of inconsistent characterization, switching between vaguely sympathetic drunken frat bro to outright sex criminal every episode, or even in the same episode.
Helaena: I like what they've done with her. It's more interesting for her to be a doomed neurodivergent prophetess than just a little dumb, even though she hasn't done a ton so far. Similarly, in an RP I was a part of, Jaehaera was depicted as not simple, just autistic and it was much more interesting.
Aemond: BORING! Don't care about this guy, sorry. Maybe I'll like him more when he is pathetically down-bad for Alys Rivers, but right now he's just like budget Daemon to me, who I also find boring. He was more interesting as a bullied teen.
Larys: He's a tough guy to adapt because his motivations are kind of nonsensical behind a vague idea of getting back at Rhaenyra (?) for dishonoring his brother (??) by putting his children in line for the throne (???). The foot thing is kind of gross and I do wish they'd have given him an actual motivation but whatever. The actor's good and I do like him and Alicent on balance. Improved by the adaptation.
Tyland: We love our little bureaucrat don't we folks? Hope he gets more screen time later on.
Jasper Wylde: FUCK YOU SHOWRUNNERS WHY IS THE GUY WHO HAS HAD ONE LINE THIS ENTIRE SEASON PART OF THE COUP BUT NOT ALICENT FUCKING HIGHTOWER??????

Group C, Round 2, Poll 1:
Tumblr media
Propaganda under the cut
Phantom of the Bwahpera a.k.a. Tom Phan
He's a sassy-ass Rabbid who's had many flings in the past, and roasts Mario iN SONG FORM-!
Phantom was a character made out of spite by the developers of Ubisoft. Because they had a rule about Rabbids speaking no English while Kingdom Battle was being made, Phantom was created from a loophole. He can't speak English, but it wasn't said that he couldn't sing in English. On top of that, Phantom has been breaking the fourth wall multiple times, from roasting Mario in a operatic diss track to even interacting with the developers (mentioned mainly on social media). He also was in a relationship with one of the Planets' Wardens in Sparks of Hope, ultimately dumping her for one of her backup dancers in the end. He is a big Rabbid with an even bigger ego, narcissistic and highly dramatic, as well as quite the Casanova. Currently, a brand new DLC for Sparks of Hope is about to be released on August 30th, all dedicated to Phantom by giving him his own network show!
Chelle
she has an information network of spies called "kittens" so she is always informed on all matters. since the dragon she's partnered with is a giant fluffy cat, it's entirely ambiguous whether or not they are literal cats or not. she's no stranger to manipulating both strangers and family alike to make a situation more favorable for her and to keep herself out of debt to others. also she runs a near exclusive weapon trade on guns. like she is one of the only people in the world who is able to make guns. also she does the OOOOOHOHOHOHO laugh when she starts firing her minigun
"- princess and 3rd eldest scion (out of 8 children) of her kingdom, she also oversees her own realm called chanzelia that was a bum fuck backwater but she singlehandedly turned it into one of the most prosperous and technologically advanced cities in the kingdom - has a bunch of ""kittens"" (spies) that serve as her network to know any and all information. her kittens never get caught - her personality -- she's very cunning and charismatic and secretly manipulates people/situations to her own advantage -- but never out of malice really. she cares about the others around her genuinely but does so in a very roundabout and clever way. - she's a lead innovator in reviving ancient technology (which was more technologically advanced than the present) like guns. she has her own gatling gun that is pink and awesome and she used it to bail the party out of jail and it was epic she was shooting pink lasers all over the place - owns and created a giant landship called the ""gran fiore"" that can also serve as a submarine and can survive magic conditions like Divine Dark Fog That No Mortal Should Be Able To Enter"
What COULDN'T I say about Chelle? She is a princess that rules country thats situated on top of a moving landship, which is entirely because she specializes in blackmailing others to get what she wants. She has a network of spies she calls her "kittens" - because her partner, Cait Sith, is a cat-dragon - that have dug up so much information on people that she uses against them that they're known world wide. Her introduction to the story consisted of her saying she would help her brother, the protagonist, in fighting a war, and then she turned around and claimed that it was all a lie, leading them deep onto old ruins to kill them with magical robots. THEN when he WON, she turned around AGAIN and said it was all a very elaborate ruse. She does this like two entirely separate times. She is the sole dealer of Fantasy Magic Guns on the entire continent. Her main weapon is a machine gun with neon pink bullets. She's even bisexual.
She’s literally the princess of a small kingdom where she has “kittens” aka servants spread all over to gather information like a girlboss like who needs privacy

OKAY, there's finally something for me to latch onto with Yda, and I officially like her!
Now that she's Lyse!
To be fair, Yda showed the most potential for humanity out of all the Scions besides the twins, I've been rooting for her since the Waking Sands reunion where she collapsed to her knees in relief and finally allowing herself a moment to fall apart and process the trauma of coming back to HQ and finding blood and viscera stained all over the walls and floors. That was the first instance of someone being genuinely, visibly emotionally impacted by something that had happened, and then her reaction to Moenbryda and the way she processed her grief was very believable and relatable.
Finding out her backstory makes a lot of her mystery click into place in a way that, jokes about Minfillia getting Poochie'd aside, didn't work imo for Urianger's big reveal. This is what I mean about smaller, human stakes being things we can care about.
Yda's mask? Belonged to her sister and uses it to hide the fact that she's NOT Yda, but Lyse, taking her dead big sister's place because she felt helpless to do anything to help people because she wasn't a genius Archon like her big sister. Yda's relative ditzy nature compared to the rest of the Archons? Also makes sense, she's not a post-doc, she's a martial artist who lied on her resume. Papalymo's constant berating of her? Still shitty, but not how he speaks to a peer/colleague, how he speaks to the little sister of a friend he lost whom he feels he has to look out for. Yda's attachment to Moenbryda? The surrogate to the big sister she lost.
Which all works to make a moment I already really liked from the end of ARR even more powerful. Yda's exhaustion with Rowena trying to talk her into a new mask, mocking the one her sister wore, while she's grieving for Moenbryda, her surrogate sister? OUCH.
Anyway, Talia, who also has a dead twin sister in her backstory, already liked Yda before, but now knowing the truth about Lyse is like, okay, I immediately understand everything about her and love her and have to protect her.
Tumblr media
That said, I am WORRIED because this game doesn't have a great track record with keeping compelling women in the main cast and uh... NOT killing them. So... I really hope we can actually keep her now that she's an interesting character!!!

Do you ever get tired of people comparing trauma between Yotsuyu and Fordola? Or how some say Yotsuyu should have lived and Fordola should have died?
I manage to avoid most of it, honestly. Folks who spend a lot of time and energy on character hate don’t tend to get my follows, and sometimes even get filtered/muted, depending on platform. I don’t go digging through the tags very often, either, just take what comes across my dash, and I keep my following count low for various reasons (mostly having to do with my own time, energy, and sanity). Still, there are things I see, so I sigh and eyeroll, and scroll on.
Fordola and Yotsuyu were meant to be two versions of the same story, in two different places, showing the damage of not only the Empire but from their own people, and how that played its part in driving them to accepting the Empire—their abusive conquerers—as the better of bad options for their own goals of security, safety, strength.
I do think one story is told better than the other; I don’t think they should have avoided the nastier parts of Yotsuyu’s history, but the way it was done was clumsy and just didn’t work within the MMO story limits. Especially adding in the infantilization via amnesia, and how poorly Hien is written in handling the Yotsuyu issue, which keeps affecting Doma’s story even through Endwalker. If Hien were just screwing up, OK, he’s young and new to ruling, but he’s simply not allowed to be the heroic character he’s supposed to be through it.
Anyway; I figured either Yotsuyu or Fordola would die, and the other get to work toward redemption. Toward learning and seeing a different way than the one they had spent most or all of their lives laboring under amid abuse, discrimination, and propaganda. While the other gets a redemptive moment, but dies in the process. It was simply a matter of which one.
“Death Equals Redemption”, while a popular trope, can also too often be a cop-out. The audience is supposed to “forgive” someone for one shining moment after a lot of bad while they escape actual consequences, actual effort, in dealing with what they did. It’s often an appeasement; give a villain their comeuppance for those who want to see it, while also some kind of nice moment for the fans of that character. But real redemption takes time and personal work, and does not at all mean someone has to be forgiven by those they’ve wronged. Yotsuyu’s is handled better than some. She did learn a few things, and genuinely cared for Gosetsu. If she couldn’t have her revenge on Doma, she could at least get Asahi for everything he’d done, and I maintain she went into that situation knowing that was the best she’d get as it was otherwise suicide-by-WoL, which was also acceptable to her as she regained her memories and the ability to feel remorse with them. But she also doesn’t get the chance to move forward from that moment, which is a waste of those lessons and the ability to put them into practice, which is where some of the fan disappointment comes in.
I think it turned out as it did because Lyse takes to heart the lessons she had learned through the story, combined with her life as a Scion, giving her a more global view in general. She’s able to find a different path for all of Ala Mhigo, letting go of their tumultuous history to build a new future together, so offers that opportunity to Fordola. Hien can’t quite yet see the societal issues in Doma that he stands within and gets written into a corner, especially with the portrayal of trying to rebuild Doma similar to how it used to be, holding onto traditions that gave the Domans strength through the occupation (as they hadn’t the same issues that Ala Mhigo did pre-empire).
Yotsuyu and Fordola have different but just as valid abuses and traumas—and commit similar abuses and traumas on others—though some folks feel more sympathy for one than the other. For some fans it’s a reflection of their own painful pasts, letting them empathize with one or the other more. For some folks, it’s simply finding one character’s personality more grating than the other. For some, it’s simply about finding one “hotter” than the other, a matter of basic aesthetic appeal. There’s some folks who don’t think antagonists should get a chance to change and find redemption at all, especially if they conflate “forgiveness” in it, which the game has deliberately shown is not the same a few times now. And for some, it’s the perceived unfairness in how one story is clumsily resolved in tragedy, while the other is getting what I actually think is the best written and paced redemption story in a game that usually handwaves those for our reforming antagonists. In many cases, it’s simply character preference leading to emotional responses, and not about what the characters are bringing to the narrative and why.
Because you can’t really have one character without the other within the “war and what comes after” story of Stormblood. These women are comparisons and commentary on the imperialism/colonialism, but also on their respective nations. Their stories work in tandem, separate but the same in many ways, challenging their narrative foils (Lyse and Hien) to think and consider and learn; one fails, the other succeeds, due to how they are moving toward their nations’ futures. Tearing down one woman to elevate the other is missing a point in what these characters mean for a story of societal redemption, as well as their own individually, and what they teach the heroes along the way.

Complete List of My Works
Currently Writing (Fanfic)
🩸🖤Flesh and Blood🖤🩸 (My Hero Academia)
Are monsters born, or made? Is Toga Himiko a monster, for having natural urges? Is Midoriya Izumi a monster, for needing to eat?
This is the story of two monsters, driven into the shadows of society by circumstances beyond their control. This is the story of how a vampire and a ghoul found solace in one another, and the story of how it was torn away.
👁Midoriya Izuku, The Ceaseless Watcher👁 (My Hero Academia, The Magnus Archives)
Midoriya Izuku is a creepy kid.
He wasn't always like that: for the first decade of his life he was just a regular Quirkless kid. But something happened, and it changed him. Now people are made uneasy by his very gaze, he knows things he shouldn't, and his scores in English are perfect.
For his part, Izuku tries to be friendly, but people are always put off by his eyes. Aside from Hatsume Mei, the dubiously sane inventor, and Nedzu, the principal of the greatest Heroics school in Japan, that is.
Honestly? Izuku just wanted to go into hero analysis. But the Dread Powers very rarely care about the desires of humans.
🧪The Quirk Doctor🧪 (My Hero Academia)

This is not that universe.
In this universe, Eda Clawthorne, an intelligent but unmotivated student of Gravesfield Middle School, winds up in the Demon Realm after following a strange purple snake through a portal. There, she meets the Snake Lady, Luz Noceda, self-proclaimed most powerful witch of the Boiling Isles, her roommate, King, and the demon inhabiting their house, Hissy. 💚Paths That Cross💚 (My Hero Academia)
They say one bad day can change anyone's life. For Midoriya Izumi, this is demonstrably true. In one day she lost both the last remnants of her dreams, and her mother. The one good part of the day was meeting Kan Himito, a handsome young UA student, and the first person in years to show her genuine kindness.
Himito had a rough upbringing as the scion of the Toga family. But with his adopted father behind him, he has stepped into a brighter future as a UA student. That is, until an overly obsessed face from his past turns up when he least expects her to, sending them into a twisting, turning plot.
Caught between hero and villain, will they be able to make it through intact?
💥For the Love of Explosions!💥 (My Hero Academia, Konosuba)

⏳A Slip in Time for Nine⏳ (My Hero Academia)
UA really was different than Midoriya Izuku thought. There were so many heroes he didn't recognise, the exam was different to what he'd expected, and they didn't even have him down to take the exam!
Fortunately, he felt he passed with flying colours. But when he returns home to find his apartment block is still under construction, Izuku may find that he is in a completely different time entirely!
Will he be able to return to his own time? And after he makes friends with Shirakumo Oboro, Aizawa Shouta and Yamada Hizashi, wiill he even want to?
🐈The Nine Lives of Midoriya Izumi🐈 (My Hero Academia)
Midoriya Izumi is something of an odd child. Unreactive, unbothered by most stimuli, and seemingly constantly calm. But Izumi has a secret. While, on paper, her Quirk, Cat, simply gives her feline trait, it is actually a little more involved than that.
Because Izumi is not a human. She is a cat with a Quirk, one that allows her to turn into a human.
With One for All, Izumi will strive to do the most human thing of all: become a hero!

Izuku always loved the night sky.
It loved him too.
Even when the terrible thoughts started to tear their way into his head.

Midoriya Izuku is a failure at life. He lives in a crappy apartment, he works at a dead-end job and every time he finds a better opportunity he is turned away because of the big red QUIRKLESS on his documents.
With a life like that, who wouldn't jump at the opportunity to escape, to become like a god?
When You're Just Memory (My Hero Academia)

🖤Go On Back to Bed, My Love (That’s Where Dreams Are Supposed to Be)🖤 (My Hero Academia)
Kyouka loved Izuku with her entire being. He was the perfect man, the sweet to her sour, not to mention built like a Greek statue. She wanted to be intimate with him, to show him just how much he means to her.
Except... she couldn’t. Every time they tried, she just couldn’t.
It wasn’t him. So it must have been her.
What was wrong with her?
The Masochism Tango (My Hero Academia)
Midoriya Izuku was an upstanding hero, a paragon of virtue, the shining beacon of his class.

When Himiko hears a knock at the door late one night, she hadn't expected her true love to be behind it, covered in someone else's blood and begging for her help.
But she would do anything for her Izukkun.
Don’t Worry, You and Me Won’t Be Alone No More (My Hero Academia)
Izuku would never have considered himself a lonely person. Sure, the closest person he had to a friend was his mother, and his own childhood friend had turned on him years ago, but he never really felt alone.
Until, that is, he met Toga Himiko, and realised how alone they both were.
Together, they will face adversity, always supporting one another, and come out on top.
False Friend (My Hero Academia, The Magnus Archives)
In times of trouble, people will take any help offered to them, even if it's from someone as strange as Izuku. But such bargains very rarely go well, and even if someone such as him has showed you kindness before, it does not mean you should let your guard down around him.
This is a lesson UA does not learn until it is too late.
Awakening (My Hero Academia)
Izuku was rather accident prone. This is a fact known by anyone who has spent more than five minutes around him. It seemed like he couldn't go outside without running into some kind of trouble. So when he comes back after a trip out, having been hit by a Quirk that changed his body, it was rather par for the course.
But ever since it wore off, he couldn't shake the feeling that something wasn't quite right, and that nothing will be the same again.
Or, Izuku accidentally transes his gender and finds out something interesting about herself
💀Nevermore💀 (My Hero Academia, The Magnus Archives)

🕸Isolation🕸 (My Hero Academia, The Magnus Archives)
Shinsou Hitoshi wasn't at UA to make friends.
When he takes Midoriya Izuku's invitation to train for the sports festival, however, that changes slightly.

UA’s Class 1-A is kidnapped by a mysterious criminal calling themselves “The Gamemaster”. Not too long after, the first invitations are sent out to the players. Will they be able to rescue the class by playing the Gamemaster’s twisted games?
☣Placeholder Name: The Engineer☣ (My Hero Academia)
Izuku loved Quirks. They were amazing, truly.
He also hated them, hated how they twisted people’s minds and society’s views.
Working with likeminded people, he will rectify that.
🔪Untitled Danganronpa Crossover🔪 (My Hero Academia, Danganronpa)
UA is a beacon of hope to the world, a light for the future attracting the best and brightest of a generation and turning them into the next greatest heroes.
So when its newly accepted Class 1-A awakens in a sealed building with no memory of how they arrived there, that hope will be pushed to its limits. Will it prevail? Or will the world fall to despair?
💻The AI Hero: IZUKU💻 (My Hero Academia)
Whatever Nedzu had expected from the new school year, it was not for a representative of one of the biggest support companies in the world to approach him, requesting that he finish Midoriya Inko’s final project: an AI that she named IZUKU.
Well, this should be interesting.
🌲Placeholder Name: Disgraced Hero AU🌲 (My Hero Academia)
Izuku was the Number One Hero.
Emphasis on the was.
After a series of controversies, he had retired to live a solitary life in the woods. But now a new threat looms, one which his old classmates need his help to defeat. But will they be able to convince him to don the mantle of Deku once more?
💣Placeholder Name: JDzuku💣 (My Hero Academia, Heathers)
UA really was everything Ochako dreamed it would be. Classes were hard, sure, but learning to be a hero was what she had always wanted. And she had even made a friend, Midoriya in Gen Ed!
And not even a suicide could ruin that. But when things escalate, she will find herself forced to choose between her morals, and her budding romance.
💰Placeholder Name: Phantom Thief Izuku💰 (My Hero Academia)
Despite his Quirklessness, Izuku had given his all to get to UA. But it wasn’t good enough.
A chance encounter after a disastrous entrance exam leads Izuku down a rather unexpected, not-entirely-legal path of heroism.
After all, you don’t need a Quirk to be a phantom thief, or a gentle criminal.
🃏Untitled Persona 5 Crossover🃏 (My Hero Academia, Persona 5)
Izuku was Quirkless. Everyone knew it. He knew it, the school knew it, even Boss knew it.
So he couldn’t possibly be the mysterious Phantom Thief of Hearts, could he?
🎉Make Them Laugh🎉 (My Hero Academia)
Fukukado.
When Shouta saw that name on the entrance exam’s examinee list, he nearly tendered his resignation there and then. Unfortunately, he could not and, sure enough, Fukukado Izuku, the green-haired menace, ended up in his class.
This was going to be a long three years.
🔧Placeholder Name: Mechadoriya🔧 (My Hero Academia)
UA’s Support Course students were well known for having... a screw loose, to say the least.
They hadn’t seen the likes of Midoriya Izuku yet.
He would be a hero, even if he had to rely on support gear, such as grappling hooks, capture weapons.... oh, and a 10 foot tall mech.
Tumblr media
🗝A Hero’s Heart🗝 (My Hero Academia, Kingdom Hearts)
Izuku was Quirkless. That had been confirmed when he was 4.
And yet, here he was, swinging around a giant key that had just appeared in his hands. That had to be a Quirk, right?
Maybe it was the Quirk of that guy who looked like a mouse?
❤If I Killed Someone For You❤ (My Hero Academia)
Izuku wanted to be a hero. He always had, and he had achieved what seemed to be an impossible goal.
Toga Himiko was a villain. She was the kind of person Izuku was supposed to catch.
And yet... why does being with her make him feel so much better than he does at UA?
👻Placeholder Name: Say My Name👻 (My Hero Academia, Beetlejuice)
Shouto was at the end of his rope. He couldn’t handle another minute of the bastard that called himself his father. Fuyumi and Natsuo tried, but even they couldn’t help. He was ready to end it all.
So who’s this green-haired kid, why is he calling himself a demon, and why does he think he can get rid of Endeavor for good?
🐝Placeholder Name: Woe, Bees Be Upon Ye🐝 (My Hero Academia)
Unbeknownst to everyone, one of Queen Bee’s bees managed to escape the efforts of the Naruhata Vigilantes. Weakened and lost after the fall of the Villain Factory, she stumbles across a small, green-haired child.
She wouldn’t normally take a male host, but sometimes needs must. And besides, perhaps this time, she could play a longer game.
Her hive would rise again.
☠Memento Mortem☠ (My Hero Academia, Return of the Obra Dinn)
Naomasa was a detective. One of the best in Tokyo, in fact. But when a series of mysterious murders stumps him, he has to admit that he can’t solve this one alone.
Fortunately, Midoriya, one of the rookies, has an ideal Quirk for this situation.
🦊Untitled Kitsune Izuku Fic🦊 (My Hero Academia)
(NB: Concept inspired heavily by @deusvervewrites‘ Tamama No Mom AU)
Izuku was reasonably sure he was going to be the first Yōkai to be a hero. Not that anyone was going to know, of course. His mom had spent enough time teaching him to hide his presence.
Still, he’d know.
🛸Placeholder Name: The Earth’s Hero: Izuku🛸 (My Hero Academia, Doctor Who)
When he was four, Izuku was diagnosed as Quirkless. Unable to see her son so dejected, Inko called up an old friend of hers: a traveller known as the Doctor.
With his brain and his heart, Izuku will become a hero, Quirk or no. And maybe, just maybe, he’ll save the universe along the way.
❔Composite Character❔ (My Hero Academia)
Even in a world as diverse as theirs, Midoriya Izu had a unique Quirk. One that connected them to countless other versions of themselves, spread out across the multiverse. For as long as they could remember, they’d been using it to solve just about any problem. With the help of their other selves, they could become an expert in any science, fighting style and various other random skills.
But just who was Izu themself, besides a mere conduit?
🔫Untitled Parental Nagant Fic🔫 (My Hero Academia)
Midoriya Izuku lost both his parents in a fire that consumed their home when he was only 5.
Tsutsumi Kaina was a hero, whatever that meant anymore, and was having the worst day of her life. She was ready to do something drastic.
When a chance meeting brings these two people together, a new path opens for both of them. And while Izuku proves that all you need to be a hero is a deadly aim, Kaina will show the world that, perhaps, Lady Nagant still has a part to play in the light.
♥♦♠♣Izuku in Borderland♣♠♦♥ (My Hero Academia, Alice in Borderland)
Midoriya Izuku was having a normal day; chasing hero fights, avoiding his classmates, the usual. As he crossed the Shibuya Crossing, however, his world went dark.
He awoke in a deserted Tokyo, where he will have to play deadly games to survive and, hopefully, return to his normal life.
🕳Placeholder Name: Warpzuku🕳 (My Hero Academia)
Izuku’s Quirk had always been odd. The ability to make objects appear out of thin air was a useful one, even though he’d never quite figured out how it worked.
Once he gets into UA, however, he begins to experiment, and accidentally embarks on a journey across the multiverse, meeting countless versions of himself in his quest to return to his own universe.
🍀Placeholder Name: Faezuku🍀 (My Hero Academia)
As a child, Midoriya Izuku wandered into the forests near his home, and disappeared.
Now, a decade later, he returns on the eve of UA’s entrance exam with a number of new powers, and a very strange idea of social etiquette.
Even an outsider could tell that Izuku wasn’t exactly all-human. But can a half-fae still become a hero?
🌌Placeholder Name: Vastzuku🌌 (My Hero Academia, The Magnus Archives)
Nedzu was widely considered to be one of the smartest beings in Japan. This meant he knew when his paws were tied.
After the unmitigated disaster of the USJ Incident, he realises just how unprepared he and his staff are for dealing with the coming darkness. But how far will he go to protect his school?
Far enough to strike a deal with a centuries-old servant of a primordial god of fear, it seems.
🔥Placeholder Name: Desolationzuku🔥 (My Hero Academia, The Magnus Archives)
Of all the things Nedzu expected to turn up at UA one night, a desperate teenager fleeing from a cult was not one of them. Midoriya Izuku may be... unique, to say the least, but what kind of heroes would they be if they did not help those who asked?
Or, Izuku is born to be the Messiah of the Lightless Flame. He is not on board with this destiny.
🗡Placeholder Name: Slaughterzuku🗡 (My Hero Academia, The Magnus Archives)
Midoriya Izuku was an angry person.
You wouldn’t be able to tell at first glance; he hid it well, pushing his rage down deep inside of him. But with every taunt, every jeer, every push, his anger grew, and it was getting harder to keep it down.
And when a voice in his head starts telling him exactly what he could do with it, he may not be strong enough to hold himself back.
🐺Placeholder Name: Huntzuku🐺 (My Hero Academia, The Magnus Archives)
For Izuku, inheriting All Might’s Quirk was a dream come true.
Sure, it came with weird dreams and urges, but he could still be a hero, right?
When Izuku’s new Quirk fills him with the urge to hunt, he meets a strange girl, who introduces him to the life of a Hunter. Together, they will defeat nightmares, and run from a society that seems only to want to suppress their desires.
💓Placeholder Name: Cultzuku💓 (My Hero Academia)
When Uravity announced her sudden break from heroics, barely a year after she began, Shouta was suspicious.
Those suspicions increased when she revealed she was to be staying in an isolated forest community.
Upon initial inspection, it was an idyllic haven away from the bustle of modern life. But was there a darker undercurrent, or was Shouta’s suspicions getting too ahead of him?
🧟Placeholder Name: Zombie Hero Team🧟 (My Hero Academia, Zombie Land Saga)
Despite being Quirkless, 15-year-old Midoriya Izuku had been accepted to UA! In the General Education course, admittedly, but there were ways to get into Heroics from there! This was the first step in his path to being a hero!
And then, on his first day, he was run over by a truck, killing him instantly.
He wakes up nearly a decade later, dazed and confused. He meets Nedzu, Mr. Principal, who explains that he is a zombie, and that he, along with six others, must unite to become the greatest hero team Japan has ever seen!
How hard can it be?
Planned Works (One-Shots)
(NB: All descriptions here subject to change)
I Didn’t Lose It (I Set It Free) (My Hero Academia)
Himiko was tired of being normal. She had pretended her whole life, but now, she wanted to shed the mask. She wanted to be herself.
Lord Knows I’ve Said Awful Things ‘Round This House (My Hero Academia)
To a man such as Sasaki Mirai, the world was rigid, unmoving. The past and future were both set in stone. All that was left was to focus on making the present as good as possible.
When We Find Out What’s Wrong With Me (Could You Tell Me How I’m Right For You?) (My Hero Academia)
Shouta was clearly the worst choice to take care of a child. Hell, he could barely take care of himself. But, Centipeder had insisted that he was the only choice, and he was damned if he failed Eri like the world already had. So, he’d give it his best shot.
How hard could parenting be, anyway?
Social Climb (My Hero Academia)
Momo had been raised in high society. She had known proper etiquette and poise for years, and knew that, one day, she’d inherit the Yaoyorozu empire. She had to make a good impression now. And she was happy with her lot in life. She was.
So why did Izuku make her feel more alive than ever before?
💫The Ragged Men in Ragged Clothes💫 (My Hero Academia)
When Yagi Toshinori was asked if a Quirkless person could be a hero, he was struck by a vision of his own past. He gave the boy the answer he had been told all his life, too lost in his own memories to realise the impact of his words.
When that boy turned up dead that night, he knew exactly the mistake he had made.
💫Perhaps They’ll Listen Now💫 (My Hero Academia)
When she heard the news of her beloved son’s suicide, Inko thought she would shatter. She almost did, but slowly, and surely, she managed to pick up the pieces of herself.
Now, she had a mission: make sure no mother would ever have to feel her pain again.
When You Feel Embarrassed, I’ll Be Your Pride (My Hero Academia)
Izuku had been interested in Quirks ever since he was a kid. He had spent hours analysing them, picking them apart and seeing how they ticked. He’d never expected it to be any more than a hobby.
When he noticed how Kaminari-kun struggled with his own Quirk, however, he couldn’t help but offer his services.
Every Word I Say is Kindling (The Smoke Clears When You’re Around) (My Hero Academia)
Izuku was never an angry person. No, that was Kacchan’s role. He, on the other hand, was the sweet one, the kind one, the one who would always turn the other cheek.
And yet, when he heard what Endeavor put his family through, he felt true rage for the first time.
Je Peux Pas Te Dire Adieu (My Hero Academia)
Kacchan was Izuku’s friend!
It didn’t matter that he hurt him occasionally, or that he belittled him. That was just his way of showing affection, after all.
It was Kacchan and Izuku, to the end!

IBO reference notes on . . . a perfect villain
Spoilers for everything, especially season 2.
This is an Iok Kujan appreciation post. No, not like that. Obviously, Iok is a spectacular prat whose obliviousness, bull-headedness and all-round stupidity results in multiple catastrophes. It'd stretch a point to say he's responsible for everything bad in the series but for Tekkadan specifically, it would have improved things immeasurably if Hashmal had swatted Iok the moment it woke up.
However, as I noted in one of my previous posts, Iok is the best written character in the show and I don't mean that (entirely) as a joke. I genuinely think he is a masterclass in creating a hatable antagonist.
We should start with who Iok is within that story, or rather what. Iok is heir to one of the Seven Star families making up Gjallarhorn's ruling council. He is part of an aristocracy and specifically, an aristocracy responsible for colonial administration. Being English, my mind immediately goes to the British Empire, sending various chinless wonders out to make everyone's lives miserable. It seems this tradition is alive and well three centuries post-Calamity.
Most of the named Gjallarhorn characters are scions of the ruling families who hold positions of authority. McGillis Fareed and Gaelio Bauduin are inspectors. Carta Issue leads one fleet. Iok is a commander within another. To my mind, it's clear they've all been promoted based on bloodline, not merit. McGillis is perhaps the only one genuinely qualified for his position, and even he gets rocketed up to Brigadier General by dint of taking over as head of his family. Gaelio, meanwhile, though more than a pretty face, doesn't seem temperamentally suited to his job: he's bored and incurious without McGillis' prompting, and overly reliant on brute force in combat. His big strength is he learns to be better, eventually. But then there's Carta who . . .
Well, let's dig into this because Carta is most obviously similar to Iok. The head of a very powerful family, placed under the guardianship of another member of the Seven Stars, with a host of dedicated followers propping up some seriously questionable leadership choices, she ultimately meets an ignoble fate after causing our protagonists heartbreak. It's another of those parallels I talked about last time, and like those, the two arcs have different flavours. You see, we're given room to empathise and even sympathise with Carta. She genuinely is one of McGillis' oldest friends, by dint of urging him towards self-worth, something nobody else had ever done before. McGillis sacrificing her for his greater good has impact precisely because there are glimpses of decency and humanity behind Carta's pomposity and self-importance.
Oh, she absolutely is pompous and self-important. A martinet, clinging to rigid social and military rules without flexibility, she has no qualms over fighting and killing literal children. She's not a good person. But maybe she could have been. She has an actual sense of honour and holds to it stubbornly. She is capable of caring about others and once upon a time, told etiquette to go screw itself for the sake of befriending someone interesting. And I think it's crucial to note she's actually reasonably competent, in spite of her manner. She adapts to Tekkadan's tactics in orbit, promptly dealing with the nano-mirror chaff, and later blind-sides them with an orbital drop. Her main failing is that she doesn't treat combat as a fight for survival but a duel, to be fought accordingly. She simply isn't prepared for the more desperate and utilitarian tactics ranged against her.
The reason this is important is because Iok, by contrast, is profoundly incompetent. It is noted over and over again, by multiple characters in the show, that he doesn't know what he's doing. Carta sticks too rigidly to the rulebook; it's unclear if Iok has even read it. One gets the impression he glanced at it once, got bored within three pages, and blundered on regardless because no one has the authority to fire him.
Rightly or wrongly, one of the best ways to strip the audience's sympathy for a character is to make them incompetent. Not unskilled or dumb – there are plenty of ways to play those as endearing. But actual incompetence, encompassing a lack of awareness over being so, is another matter. Seeing someone fail repeatedly without acknowledgement or effort to improve creates the antitheses of that sweet feeling of watching someone excelling at their job. It's frustrating. It's annoying. It makes you glad to see the back of the character.
It can also be funny. Absent sympathy, it's easy to laugh at dingbats who keep messing up. Innumerable shows find humour in this very ancient joke. Iron-Blooded Orphans, however, plays Iok's incompetence deadly straight. The man is a disaster for friend and foe alike: his failures come with a butcher's bill and a body count. Mikazuki's growing paralysis, Naze, Amida and the Turbines, Iok's own soldiers – time and again we are shown the bloody fallout of Iok's blundering.
And time and again, we see him escape without meaningful consequence. Because in a story full of characters walking a razor thin line between success and failure, with their very survival at stake, Iok has the luxury of insulation from harm.
That's the key part. Because Iok is far from the only character to be naïve about how and why things work the way they do. He's definitely not the only one who needs basic fundamentals explained to him in simple terms (*cough* Orga *cough* Kudelia *cough* Shino *cough* – you get the point). But unlike the rest, he can get away with it. He was born into a family with power and connections, he's coddled by a system geared to the advantage of people like him, and he has the reflected glow of his father's legacy granting him supporters who hope he might grow up to be similarly great. This is not someone capable of blowing everything on an ill-advised quest for revenge. The most he suffers for that is being sent to his room. The man nearly causes a city to be wiped off the map and carries on regardless, unpunished.
Which would be bad enough in itself. Being a selfish, entitled prick usually is. But Iok's characterisation goes one step further, in that he is written to have the shape of redeeming qualities. He is brave and forthright. He is willing to lead from the front. He seeks to honour those under his command. In someone else, these could lend a semblance of nobility. But Iok? Iok's bravery merely means he doesn't heed warnings of danger. His attempts at leadership invariably backfire and make every situation worse. And rather than listening to his men's requests to get to safety, he invalidates their sacrifice by rushing back to the front to make himself feel better, forcing more comrades into harm's way. Over and over, we are shown how Iok's self-absorption warps every single positive trait he possesses.
Without this, he'd be a twit who keeps falling on his face. With it, his status as a total jackass is elevated to something so unutterably poisonous that being crushed to jam feels like the least he deserves. And all without ever coming into direct contact with the protagonists. Iok is the vapid embodiment of a callous system that places power in the hands of people who wield it without skill, for the pettiest of reasons, all the while truly believing they are the heroes. He doesn't need to actually shoot anybody; he enables destruction from afar, stoking the schemes of opportunists in an effort to soothe a dented ego. He heaps utter misery on Tekkadan and it is only via sheer fluke – and Iok's rush to do something important – that they get any chance to strike back.
I don't want to claim this is deft. But sometimes you don't need to be. Sometimes you need to craft a character so perfectly hatable that them getting away with things becomes actively painful, in order that their fate will be a moment of triumph, snatched amid tragedy.
In a series shot through with beautifully-rendered violence pitched a little too far towards horrific to enjoy without queasiness, Iok Kujan dying horribly brings nothing so much as a sigh of relief. At least in the end, amidst all the remaining injustices, Akihiro was able to deliver much overdue comeuppance to a man who would never have known it otherwise. And it wouldn't have worked nearly so well if Iok hadn't be pitched to be so perfectly repellent.

(Re)spite
Summary: Hathe and Emet-Selch needed a break.
For Hathe, it was to preserve her energy and ease her nerves before ascending The Ladder for the daunting task of putting an end of Vauthry.
As for Emet-Selch?
He just needed for the glint of that painfully familiar shard to stop tormenting him so.
Rating: NC-17
Pairing: WoL!OC/Emet-Selch
Continuation to “Mea Culpa”
BEEP BEEP SAD GRANDPA SEXINGZ ON THE WAY !!!
THANKS SO MUCH TO MY LOVELY COMMISSIONER FOR THIS BLESSEDLY ANGSTY OPPORTUNITY!!!
----------------
It just wasn’t the same.
There was a time when Emet-Selch set his eyes upon the Warrior of Light as something more than just a pawn in his plan, more than a fascinating subject in his observation of the mortals within the First.
An era long lost, but one he yearned so dearly to return to--it was during those blessed bygone days when he mockingly called out to the savior of the realm as not “hero”, but Azem.
As much as he wanted to deny it, he preferred truth over delusion.
The shard of his beloved Azem was here, lingering within the possession of the Warrior of Light.
Hathe.
But now, as he found himself lingering around the proximity of The Ladder in the mortals’ ongoing efforts to thwart Vauthry’s plans while the Kholusian sun mercilessly bore down upon him, his eyes were not softened with affection as he gazed towards her, but fixed in a scrutinizing stare.
It just wasn’t the same.
Hathe’s aether.
Corrupted cracks had since formed during her adventures in the First, all because of her misplaced faith in the Crystal Exarch.
Honestly, for all the glares and huffs that he received from her, it truly was baffling that she did not do the same to The Crystarium’s leader.
His lips were beginning to form a pout from this biased treatment.
“How are you not boiling in that thing?”
But then his lips curled into a grin as his gaze shifted to the eyes of the inquiring voice.
Lounging beneath the shade of one of the old workshops was Hathe, who retreated to this distant corner of The Ladder to preserve her energy before the ascent up to Mt. Gulg while the other Scions and the Eulmorans worked together to get the Talos running once again.
Clicking his tongue in a tsk, Emet-Selch threw his arms open wide in overexaggerated faux shock as he remarked, “My, my, hero--how brazen of you.”
He approached where she sat in a saunter, crossing between the distinct line on the pavement to where the blazing sunlight treaded no further into the cool shade as he continued, his voice donning a playful innocence, “Did you wish for me to strip for you so badly?” Tilting his head, he pressed a thoughtful finger against his cheek with a smirk as he purred, “Have you missed my warmth in your bed that much?”
A roll of her eye and a sigh out of her painted lips.
“I should have just stayed quiet and enjoyed the peace.” Shaking her head, her arms folded over her chest as she reclined further back against the wall. Her eyes shut, hoping he would take this as cue to leave her alone.
But the sudden presence that appeared right by her side entailed otherwise.
As did him crouching down, a silent affirmation of his intentions to stay.
Not even the sensation of gloved fingertips cradling her chin had her look towards him, let alone fluttering her eyelid open to perceive his existence.
“Oh come now, you act like my presence hasn’t enriched your life for the better--”
He drew closer to her.
“--truly, wouldn’t you prefer I over the Exarch?”
The heat of his breath fanning over her ear never failed to make her shudder, a sensation that she was ever reluctant to enjoy.
She had a feeling as to where this was going. Though her better judgment would have her shoo him away before matters progressed further--especially given their relatively close proximity to the rest of the Scions and the others--it was either indulging in pleasure or quietly stew in thought over both the task of sending Vauthry crashing down while dealing with the Light that was poisoning her aether.
But that didn’t mean she was going to be that compliant with the man who was meant to be her nemesis.
And thus her eye opened, the sight of which made him wish she didn’t have to keep that eyepatch of hers on.
Azem’s eyes were among the features he cherished most about her after all.
But as ever the contrast between his lost love to the fragmented soul who stood before him, she huffed in defiance, “I’d prefer you let me relax before I pick up the pieces of your meddling.”
Her tone was soft, but the irritation laced around each word was as prickly as could be.
Emet-Selch only smirked in response.
“Meddling I object to, but letting you relax--” His thumb traced over her lips, caring little for the smudge of rouge that stained the whites of his glove--if anything, he relished it.
Continuing on, he kept her right in his sights as he tsked haughtily, “--honestly, by now you should know to be more direct with me on with your desires, hero.”
The distance separating them closed further as he drew his thumb away, eliminating the space between his face and hers until their lips were barely an ilm apart as he mused, “Has anything else even come close to having that beautifully battleworn body of yours be at ease like my touch?”
She expected a kiss next.
But ever full of surprises, Emet-Selch only smirked as he teased, “Save for those ruffians who have felt the might of a keg of ale smashed upon their heads during those bratty youthful days of yours, of course.”
Hathe’s eye narrowed with sheer annoyance. “Gods, you really need to shut up.”
And it was with those huffed words that her hands cupped his face as she brought his lips to hers in a kiss.
A kiss for distraction.
Hathe and the tumultuous road that she was due to tread any moment now.
Emet-Selch and a yearning that he never could bring himself to ever relinquish in the days that have passed.
As delightful as it was to indulge in the gorgeously toned physique of the renowned hero during their many trysts in the nights since passed in her personal suite, it was still an utterly peculiar experience for his fingers to roam over physical familiarity with a soul that thought him to be a stranger, an enemy.
Ever more the thorns that had long formed around his heart embedded further and further.
In the end, she was just to be a vessel to enact his life’s work, his purpose to continue and carry on the will of his people.
And yet, he still found himself being so attentive, doting even, to Hathe’s pleasure as he shifted her clothes around--being mindful to not rip, else risk being punched back to The Source as she warned--, his lips kissing over her breasts, his tongue skillfully lapping over her nipples while his gloved fingers slipped beneath the waistband of her pants, seeking to press and caress over her panties.
A warrior like her could handle some roughhousing, as he would often tease while fucking her into the mattress during his numerous late night visits to The Pendants.
But here, in this moment, hidden away in the shade, while she was more eager to peel off his robe, he was more in mind to take his time with her.
Bodies intertwined, an affair meant to exist only in the shadows.
She lied beneath him upon the ground while he eased his cock in and out of her core. Far from pounding but nowhere near delicate, he pumped himself at a lively pace. More kisses than bites were pressed onto her neck, one hand clasped around her waist while the fingers of the other slipped between their bodies to rub slow--and dare he say sweet?--circles against her clit.
It just wasn’t the same.
“What’s with the tenderness?” Hathe murmured breathlessly, her back arching as she continued to find her senses stimulated all the more. Though there was a teasing inflection to her voice, he could hear a layer of pure curiosity at its foundation.
The question genuinely caused Emet-Selch to halt in place.
Even if just for a few seconds.
Only before he snorted, his lips curling into a smirk. “You will never see Ascians as capable of love, do you, hero? Since you insist--”
His hands reinforced their grip on her waist, squeezing tight as he quickened the pace of his thrusts.
She was right, however.
Tenderness, affection, love--those were reserved for Azem.
A shallow copy of the woman he loved most was in no need of such pure and precious joys, especially when she was fated to become a vessel for his plans.
The leading role of his grand theatrical production was to take her place in the showstopping climax of the show, and he was ever so delighted to have front row seats.
And yet, his mouth still sought out to kiss hers nonetheless.
A kiss longing for someone he couldn’t have anymore.
A kiss affectionate for someone he needed for greater purposes.
But as they rode out their orgasms, soon falling into one another in a pleasured heap, he still embraced her close to his chest with a grip that did not want to let go in the slightest, his face hiding into her neck.
So familiar and so far at the same time.
It just wasn’t the same and never would things return to how they would and should have been in a kinder life.

2 3 11 and 13 for Inky for the romance asks?
Thank you! (Also, for anyone who may need the warning, here there be spoilers for FFXIV pre-ShB.)
2. What was the first moment that they knew they were in love with their LI? So my first instinct here was to say that Thancred figured it out during "But Still I Swore," but I'm not actually sure that's true. He was too deep in denial. So it was probably during the confrontation with the Warriors of Darkness (the one where Alisaie shows off her RDM skills) that he actually let himself think he might be in love with her. Coincidentally, that fight was the first time Inky got an inkling that maybe she felt something more for Thancred than her other friends, but she didn't acknowledge it was love until she got to a point where she was genuinely hoping that the person sending her flowers when she danced might be him.
3. When they are having a fight, what is it about and how do they deal with it? They'll generally fight about Thancred's self-esteem. Following that, their most common fights are about snack flavors (I have a feeling they wildly disagree on most things for some reason), and sometimes Inky is prone to forgetting things like anniversaries or dates because she has so much else on her plate. The latter two are resolved pretty easily--they agree to disagree about food, and Inky will always make it up to Thancred by showing him how much she cares about and appreciates him. The self-esteem thing is highkey an ongoing fight that I'm not sure how it will resolve and am waiting to see what happens in the MSQ.
11. Do they have any inside jokes? Almost certainly, yes, but a lot of their inside jokes are also shared with the other Scions because they're so close to all of them. They do have a little thing about that one time Estinien thought Inky had a crush on Alphinaud (she does and did not) but then failed to noticed Inky and Thancred were dating until they kissed in front of him. They'll also mutually all each other shit like, "My hero," or, "My knight in shining armor," and all of that, but those are more tongue-in-cheek petnames than inside jokes.
13. How do they react at being away from each other? Already answered!

Prompt #10 Heady
Sometimes a celebrations looks like it, but doesn‘t feel it. Sometimes the sweet taste of victory is soured by cloudy thoughts. Just like this one.

Prompt #10 Heady
The lanterns light up the glass ceilings only to get reflected back as thousands of tiny spots across the floor. Across the Exedra, the large plaza in front of the crystal tower, many of the Crystariums inhabitants were celebrating once more the returning stars in the sky.
Many had called for all the artificial lights to be killed, so that they might see them even clearer. The general concern for people who might accidentally fall down that stairs or run into walls had quickly stopped this debate from spiralling out of control. To soothe those determined to get their will, multiple barrels of wine and ale got rolled outside to be tapped on site. With vinous expressions on their faces, even the most fierce debater retracted their demands.
Shia too had seized the opportunity. With her second or third tankard of some fresh Crystarium brew in hand, she was leaning on one of the upper balconies. For one she wished to watch the people, their happy dances, glee-full expression and to hear their laughter and listen to their singing. For the other… well. She needed a moment.
The night was… saying it was still young was an understatement, especially after 100 years worth of day. But it was true: The watch told her it was only about nine in the evening, so there was plenty of time to be jovial with everybody. There was no need to either rush or get drunk right away. It would only serve to shorten the night.
This night.
The night of celebration.
Celebrating their victory over their foe.
The lightwardens were gone, the night returned and the ascian named Hades history. Shia should have been drunk on her victory alone, not the ale.
And yet.
And yet it kind of felt wrong to celebrate.
She took another hearty swig from her tankard. The taste of the ale was fresh, hoppy, with a dash of what pine trees smelled like. But mostly it left a bitter aftertaste.
Somewhere down in the crowd, Shia spotted the Crystal Exarch. Or rather G‘Raha Tia. She‘d need to ask him, which he preferred. Though it would feel weird to call him by his title, now that she could see his face. The face of the young man she had once had a crush on; who she might even have loved. But said face had also been marred by the towers influence, his hair grown growing more and more pale with each year, his body partially encased or even transformed into crystal.
But even then… why did looking at him make her gut growl. Yes, he had spirited her friends away to another dimension and left her with the shocks of her life. Never before had she been as afraid. Never before had she lost her friends to a fate so unknown.
He never meant them or me any harm. He did what he had to do to safe this and our world. Don‘t forget.
True. But did that excuse his action?
Shia emptied the still half full tankard with a few big gulps. This was neither the place nor the time to think about this. She‘d talk with one of the Scions in the morning. Or whenever she‘d cured the hangover she was currently working on. Perhaps Urianger could help her. He always had a nag for philosophy. But he‘d probably not be able to give her any answers. Y‘shtola would take the pragmatic route. Thancred was too occupied keeping an eye on Ryne to be talked to about this. He would also not keep quiet and tell the other. The same went for Alphinaud. Even though his character had grown immensely since they had met all the way back in Gridania. Perhaps Alisaie was the one to talk to here. She had been the one to talk to about personal matters before. The spirited young lady had even pushed Shia to go and meet her brother, leading to a brief but heartfelt reunion of the siblings.
Alright. The topic of that Exarch/G’Raha could be tabled until the next morning.
That left the other thing keeping her mind from indulging: Hades‘ last words.
„Remember us. Remember, that we once lived,“ she repeated quietly towards the stars.
She would remember, at least him and his flamboyance. And the city he had created just… just for her? To jog her memory? But how could she remember something she had never seen in her life?
But now she had. Forgetting that sight would be a tough challenge. Mayhap she would’ve even attempt to forget. Maybe this was one of those things she‘d keep close to her heart and revisit again and again. It was a sight for the ages after all…
He had to die. It was him or us. There was no other way.
How often would she have to remind herself of this? Of the inevitability of what had happened? Perhaps another round of ale would help her table this discussion too.
Gazing one more time across the Exedra she caught the gaze of her long lost and now found lover. He waved his crystallised arm until it got caught in a furry paw.
„Come on down, Warrior of Darkness,“ a burly Hrothgar bellowed, „the Exarch doesn’t seem to get in the mood for celebration! Mind showing him a few of your partying skills?“
Shia couldn‘t remember the mans name for the life of her. She did remember him supplying her with enough drinks to knock out a whole platoon the day the night had returned for the first time.
The smile of G’Raha Tia flashed across the Exarchs features. He shrugged.
„I will be right there! Should I take the stairs or just leap down?“
„The stairs! Please take the stairs!“
The Exarchs yell reached Shia, but she did not care.
„Catch!“ She answered in a yell of her own, before climbing upon the railing and simply falling down.
Ah yes. The alcohol is finally doing it‘s work. A shriek was followed by the sound of scrambling feet. A hard thud and Shia lay atop her former lover, who seemed to have actually tried to catch her. Weather from embarrassment or her laying atop him, she did not know, but every piece of skin on his face had turned red. The Hrothgar was laughing. He had caught her tankard and gestured with it. „Shall I bring you another?“ „That would be lovely,“ Shia answered and he turned towards one of the big barrels. „Thank you for catching me.“ Wether it was because of the alcohol or her genuine feelings, but Shia smiled at her current cushion. „… you are welcome.“ His sounded a bit hoarse. She gave him another look and before thinking too much about it, she placed a quick kiss on his forehead. Only to jump up almost immediately after. „Should we do as asked and get you something to drink too? Because that is how any good party goes.“ Shia held out her hand and the Exarch took it gladly. „I‘d be delighted to share a drink with you.“ And together they too made their way towards the bar.
If you wish to read how the night ended for the two of them, you might be interested in my NSFW piece Always You on AO3: https://archiveofourown.org/works/19791733

Comm 17 - A Little Help - NSFW
Rating: NC-17/Explicit Tags: Threesome (MxMxM), Anal Sex, Accidental Voyeurism, Blowjobs, Heat Fic
Commission Request: WoL is going into heat and Estinien has always been their partner. Not wanting make things awkward with G’raha who they have burgeoning feelings for, the WoL seeks Estinien out once more. G’raha notices the WoLs absence, and decides to seek them out... ====================================================
There’s no mistaking the sounds he hears from down the hallway.
G’raha Tia knows his face is as red as his hair, no longer tipped with silver mind you.
The moans and sighs are unmistakable, familiar, and the sounds are so lewd he can feel his breeches already begin to feel a little too tight. His ears flick forward before flicking back in embarrassment, flicking forward once more as if he can’t help himself as he creeps steadily forward down the seemingly unending hallway.
The Rising Stones is empty, Tataru seeing to other business as she communicates with Krile who still lies in Sharlayan. Y’shtola and Urianger having mended their camaraderie have gone to research what the council could possibly be up to, most likely preparing to endure another late night up to their ears in tomes. The twins had busied themselves elsewhere, possibly still processing their father’s rejection. Thancred had gone out to attend to other matters, leaving with nothing but a wave and a smile.
Though he has always admired the Warrior of Light, even G’raha could not deny that he has not only spent time with A'von to be with his inspiration, his shining light...that he wanted more. While yes he knew his abilities could help their adventures, his reasons for joining A’von on his adventures were not so noble.
Even he could be selfish.
He knows not when these feelings of simple admiration and idolatry shifted into something more personal, pushing him to spend every bell of every day with A’von until they parted ways for the evening, each withdrawing to their own rooms. Part of him could not help but feel a little anxious for burdening the Warrior of Light with his presence every day, but could anyone blame him?
He loved every second he got to spend with his inspiration, to see those pale, blue eyes crinkle and pouty lips smile at him as their tails swayed behind them as they trekked across Eorzea. On more than one occasion had G’raha felt A'von's own tail brush against his own, the fluffy mass unmistakably curling around his own for barely a second before withdrawing so fast G’raha thought he might’ve imagined it.
He could barely sleep from thinking about it so much.
Try as he might, there was no running away from his burgeoning feelings for A’von, which was what left him feeling so bereft when he awoke to another day of the Warrior of Light mysteriously keeping his distance. It had been going on for barely a week now, A’von having started to nervously avoid him, until he became a ghost altogether. The only way G’raha knew he was relatively okay was from how he could distantly hear A'von's door close late at night when everyone had long since turned in.
Tonight was to be the same he thought, only G’raha had been arriving back to his room fairly late himself. He had nowhere else to go really, given his body had been slumbering on this world for the past few years, leaving him with nowhere else to stay save the Rising Stones. He had spent another night talking off poor Rambroes’ ear, sharing more tales of the future and the First and all he had seen. Passing on secrets of the Crystal Tower and its capability until he gave one good yawn and Rambroes sent him home just like old times.
It was quiet, whatever remaining Scions having long since gone home for the evening, meaning it was quieter than usual. It’s what led him to hearing moans and sighs from the end of the hall as he prepared to go to bed. He had been a little embarrassed of course, thinking that perhaps one of the other Scions needed release, and were thinking themselves quiet to races with average hearing. But one moan in particular let him know just which Scion was currently being pounded into the mattress.
He couldn’t help himself, cat-like stealth helping him sneak down the hall, toward the door that was cracked just enough that a sliver of light peeked out into the corridor. Just as the sounds got louder, so did the air, a familiar and long forgotten scent tickling G’raha’s nose and making him hard as rock in his trousers with each step he drew nearer. It was subconscious how his hand moved to grip himself through his clothes, not feeling such hunger since...he was in this body, strangely enough. Desire was the last thing on his mind when bearing the mantle of the Crystal Exarch.
“You like a good tussle as much as the rest...don’t deny it…” a man gruffly rumbles, the barely perceptible squeaking of the mattress finally making its way to his ears. Reaching the door, it's ajar just enough for his red eyes to peek in, barely able to contain his gasp at what he sees.
A'von is there, naked and sweaty and willing, his back to Estinien’s chest. Without meaning to G'raha eyes jump down A'von's bare torso to his cock, red, swollen, and leaking precum all over the place as it bounces lewdly with each thrust of Estinien’s hips. A'von's usually light eyes are darkened with lust, his trimmed claws biting into Estinien’s arm where the Elezen man has it wrapped possessively across his chest. Estinien’s other hand grips A'von's hip with bruising force, holding him in place as he controls the pace of his thrusting, leaving A’von no option but to sit there and take it.
He had been as in awe of the Azure Dragoon as anyone had the right to be, he thinks, despite the Elezen’s more standoffish demeanor. Having been the “new hire” himself, G’raha had taken to try and form a partnership of sort of being the two newest members, to which Estinien begrudgingly accepted. G’raha knew he didn’t genuinely dislike him as a person, but was more used to being alone, as was his wont.
G’raha had heard (or rather read) plenty about the prickly dragoon, noticing that he became more present as A’von had become more absent. Estinien had informed everyone he would be using this waiting time to take care of a few loose ends until it was time to depart, showing up surprisingly early as A’von had begun to make himself scarce. The seeds of jealousy tried to take root in G’raha’s heart, but he quickly quashed such thoughts. He was man enough to acknowledge that others had grown close to A'von in his absence; it was not fair to keep him to himself.
“You’re so beautiful like this, you know,” Estinien whispers, pressing thin lips to A'von's neck, tongue licking a stripe up to his jawline. “All hot and needy for me…” He growls, accentuating his words with a hard thrust, the sound of skin against skin making G’raha grip his dick tighter, needing some kind of relief as he played the hidden voyeur. He should step away, should turn around and go back to his own room, but he couldn’t tear his eyes from the sight before him.
“S-Stop saying such things,” A’von moans, grunting as Estinien’s fingers snake their way up to slip into his mouth, pink tongue darting out to lick them, drawing him into his waiting mouth. Estinien rumbles in approval, rewarding the Miqo’te by increasing the pace he fucks him. “Gods,”
“Halone couldn’t save you now...though you wouldn’t want that, now would you?” Estinien chuckles, making sure to fuck the Warrior of Light nice and deep. “No...it is your new friend you wish were in my place.”
“That’s not true!” A’von nearly wails, face flushing a deeper red from embarrassment.
A new...friend?
“Oh yes...it is not blue eyes you want to see. Go on and tell me more of how you wish for the heir of Allag to ravish you for all to see.” Estinien continues to tease.
“Estinien, be quiet,” A’von protests, even as his own hand goes to circle around his own cock in a silent plea for more. He handles himself expertly, eyes dazed as he tries to desperately thrust in his hand at the same time Estinien plows into him from behind.
G’raha is pretty sure he’s stopped breathing.
“I’m sure he would be more than amicable to your request…” Estinien hums, pushing down on A'von's back to press him into the mattress. G’raha watches toned muscle flex in Estinien’s arm as A’von’s tail curls around it affectionately despite the force Estinien exerts fucking him from behind.
G’raha’s mouth is dry as the desert as he watches A'von's lust drunk face, holding back a groan at hearing the Warrior’s wanton sighs. He looks back to Estinien--
...to find the dragoon staring right back.
G’raha freezes, preparing to turn tail and run but the dragoon shakes his head, smirking all the while as he turns his gaze back to A’von. “Go on and tell me, A’von. Tell me how you came to me because you couldn’t face your feelings for your G’raha Tia.”
“Gods,” A’von moans, eyes rolling back in his head.
“You want him don’t you? Too embarrassed to have him see the infallible, unshakable Warrior of Light, his light and inspiration...reduced to a moaning mess.” Estinien continues, not having stopped his thrusting for one moment.
“Gods yes,” A’von moans, a smile curling his lips at the thought.
“Well, you heard him.” Estinien calls, raising his voice to clearly indicate he is speaking to G’raha. He feels himself freeze even more, stiff as a board as Estinien ceases the motion of his hips, giving the Warrior of Light just enough time for his thoughts to clear. G’raha watches as if he’s having an out of body experience as A’von turns in question to Estinien before following his line of sight to the door where he stands, unmoving.
A’von and he simply stare at one another blankly for a moment, before A'von's ears pin back against his head, hands covering his face in shame. “Raha!” he calls, and at the sound of his name without the prefix, so many of his fears scatter like petals on the wind. “By the gods, I hadn’t meant-- I mean,”
“Will you just ask him if he wants to join or sod off?” Estinien interrupts rudely, prompting A'von to reach back and smack him.
“Be quiet,”
“Von?” G’raha calls, stepping into the room. He pushes the door open to allow himself entry, closing it gently behind him, ensuring that it is shut. “Did you really…?”
Blushing again, A’von buries his face into the sheets in embarrassment, prompting an exasperated sigh from Estinien. “The bloody fool was too enamored with you to bother asking whether or not you wanted to help with his heat.” The Elezen grumbles with a roll of his eyes. “Something about not wanting to bother you, that you’ve just returned to this world and shouldn’t worry about such things.” He mocks, going as far to impersonate A'von's voice.
“Must you?” The Miqo’te whines, looking as if he would love nothing more than to disappear.
Estinien playfully gives him a smack on the ass, enjoying the man’s undignified yelp. “I must.”
Swallowing, G’raha carefully reaches for the clasps keeping his gear in place, praying he isn’t presuming over much. He and A’von make eye contact, everything and nothing passing between them for a moment. Despite their compromising position, G’raha notices A'von still has the gall to look ashamed, and it’s then he knows he must say something. “I...want this as much as you. If your words hold true.” He murmurs, unsure of his own voice.
A'von's large ears slowly perk up, blue eyes locked on him as if he wanted nothing else. “I...I hadn’t wanted to impose. I presumed that you didn’t want,”
“Of course I want,” G’raha groans, nearly falling to his knees to the side of the bed, reaching to kiss A’von who returns it just as eagerly, the two men groaning into one another’s mouths. G’raha caresses his face gently, always, always wanting, his heart doing little flips in his chest that the gods have seen fit to grant him so many of his wishes.
G’raha feels A'von groan into the kiss, his eyes trailing to where he notices Estinien begins to slowly thrust again. This close G’raha can feel the effect of A'von's heat, his own breath coming fast as he stares into A'von's eyes, thumb trailing across the scar he knows his friend so adamantly hides. He can feel how he tenses beneath his touch, and so he moves to press his lips comfortingly to the scar, kissing every ilm as Estinien begins to one again build their pleasure.
“This is...okay?” A’von whines, claws ripping into the sheets as Estinien begins to pound even harder.
“More than okay.” G’raha groans, using this time to begin undressing as best he can from this position. His medallions clink together as his top falls to the floor, his hands nimbly picking out his hair pins and placing them with his top. “Though it has been some time, if memory serves, it may take two of us to satisfy a heat.”
Hunger fills A'von's eyes at that, following him as he stands to remove his trousers. G’raha can’t help but flush red at how A'von's lips part and his tongue swipes across them, gazing up at him hungrily before eyeing the outline of his cock in his underwear. Even as Estinien continues to thrust, A’von reaches out and grabs him by the thigh, urging him closer to where he can pull down his small clothes, letting his cock spring free.
G’raha can’t help but groan as he watches that tongue swipe over pointed fangs once again, A’von turning his body as best he can to get a proper grip on his cock and pull the tip to his mouth. A’von eagerly begins to lick at his length despite the dragoon’s thrusts, eyes gazing up at him wantonly that does none of his wildest fantasies any justice.
His mouth feels exquisite, tongue warm and wet, swirling around the tip as he eventually gives up and climbs on the bed, turning himself to kneel directly in front of his companion. A’von groans thankfully as he fully dedicates himself to his task, bobbing his head up and down his length all while Estinien holds him by the hips and rams into him from behind. Each thrusts forces a groan from his throat, the vibrations travelling up his length, sending pleasure racing through what feels like every nerve in his body.
“Wicked white,” G’raha curses, having not let go of the phrase as A’von greedily laps at him, thrusting his hips back against Estinien whose groans have gotten more frantic, his pace more wild as he furiously pounds into the Warrior of Light. They grunt and groan together, G’raha committing the sight to memory as A’von calls Estinien’s name as he comes, pulling off his length to moan his release into his lap as Estinein too meets his end.
Estinien groans as he comes, head resting against his A’von’s back as he gives those last few thrusts to ride out his orgasm. G’raha watches as the two of  them catch their breath, A’von giving him a soft smile as he pushes himself up to bring G’raha down to him for a kiss. G’raha reciprocates immediately, their tongues dancing together even as Estinien withdraws, allowing for A'von to press forth unsuspectingly. G’raha scrambles to get his legs from under him as A’von straddles him, eyes devious as he holds his hand behind him expectantly. Estinien silently hands him the oil, G’raha watching hypnotized as he pours a generous amount in his hand before putting the bottle down once more.
G’raha can’t help but raise his hips as his lover’s hand wraps around his cock once again, the oil lubing him up easily. He can barely keep his eyes open, the pleasure is so overwhelming, looking through hazy eyes at how calloused hands rub him up and down.
Having recovered, Estinien grabs the vial of oil, pouring what remains over two fingers before chucking it elsewhere in the room. Coming up behind A'von he slips two fingers into his sheathe, A’von purring, eyes hooded as he still keeps his focus on G’raha. “Good, you’re still ready. You ready to take him?” Estinien murmurs into A’von’s ear, taking one between his teeth and nibbling.
A’von nods slowly, finally releasing his cock as Estinien pulls his fingers from his puckered entrance.
Slowly, A’von leans forward, resting rough hands upon the smooth planes of G’raha’s chest, eyes not leaving one another as A’von reaches below to take hold of G’raha cock and line it up. Sinking slowly, the two Miqo’te moan as one as A'von slowly sinks down, G'raha hands coming to knead the flesh of A'von's thighs as he takes ilm by precious ilm. Even if he’s still stretched from Estinien’s own pounding, A’von savors each bit until they are flush against each other, his cock still hard and leaking pre cum as is warranted by a Miqo’te heat even after an orgasm.
A’von leans down to kiss him, his heart feeling ready to burst as A'von raises his hips to bring them back down. Groaning into one another’s mouths, G’raha feels robbed of breath as A’von nibbles playfully on his bottom lip, earning a surprised whimper from him at the action. Smirking, he watches as A’von sits back up, riding him earnestly, eyes on him. “Let me...make these past few days...up to you…”
A’von rides him like a man possessed, panting and mewling as he bounces on his cock. As if the sight alone wasn’t erotic enough, Estinien comes to claim A’von’s lips, the Miqo’te’s hand wrapping around his cock and pumping furiously as he prepares to meet his end once again. “The both of you,” A’von groans against Estinien’s lips, and G’raha knows he won’t last much longer either. “I’m going to,”
A’von comes, crying out as his seed spurts everywhere, but G’raha can’t be bothered to care as he finally releases, feeling his orgasm soar through him with blinding speed. His toes curl as he feels his seed spurt inside of his love, eyes fluttering closed as he gives a few more thrusts to ride out his orgasm.
It is his turn to catch his breath, finally opening his eyes just in time to catch A'von as he seems to collapse atop him. “Von?” he panics, until Estinien stills him with a hand.
“He’s fine. Just worn out.” He huffs, standing from the bed to cross over to a nearby basin. “You and I both know he could use the rest. Especially since he’ll pounce on us soon as he wakes.”
Nodding, G’raha shifts A'von to be a bit more comfortable, scooting over to make a little more room for all three of them to fit. Given that they’re in Estinien’s room, he doubts anyone save Alphinaud or Tataru would dare pay a visit, and so he dubs it safe enough to rest his eyes, and join A'von in the world of dreams.

FFXIV Write 2021 Prompt #5
Using a random word generator I got the word 'possessive'.
Tumblr media
Possessive (adjective): demanding someone's total attention and love.
Placing under a cut due to length.
The Rising Stones had been usually quiet for the entirety of Phoebe’s recent return. With the Scions still on the First, Tataru and Krile were kept busy as ever researching and tending to their corporeal forms. Even Ephemie was off for the night, per Phoebe's request that she take a break. There was no need for one person to wait on her when the poor girl could use a break now and again.
Phoebe had helped herself to a drink behind the counter, pouring a large glass of whiskey. She sighed as she kicked back at the table, feet on the edge as she sipped on her tumbler. It had been a long day and this was a well-deserved reward. Tataru had called her earlier that morning via linkshell, asking if Phoebe could watch over the Scions while she ran some errands. Krile was gone for the day but would be returning later that evening.
It had been demanding work with that many patients to care for. All of them needing to be fed, washed, and rolled in their beds as not to develop sores from being in one spot too long. Clothes need to be changed, the wash to be done... the list had seemed endless. She didn't mind, she cared very much for her friends and felt she owed them this much at least. Everything had been checked off of the to-do list that had been left behind for her.
It wasn’t often she was able to enjoy pure silence. A clock ticked somewhere in the background, mesmerizing in its rhythm. The drink she had seemed to be affecting her more than usual, most likely due to how exhausted she was. She set her glass down on the table as she felt her eyelids begin to drift closed.
Phoebe had only enjoyed a few moments of sleep before the door to the Rising Stones came crashing open. She startled, her chair almost tipping completely back with her in it. A heavily armored hand gripped the back of the seat to steady and right it. Phoebe had been surprised and turned to lecture the poor scion that decided to scare her so.
She whipped around to find no scion, but the former Azure Dragoon standing before her. Their eyes locked, his mouth turned downward into a scowl. She smiled at him, having not seen him in what seemed like ages after coming back from the First.
"Estinien! How are you?" she said, giving him a wide smile. The dragoon stared back, face unchanged. She was puzzled, why did he look so angry with her?
"Is everything alright? Estinien, say something...." her eyes shifted awkwardly under his intense stare. He finally moved, grabbing hold of her shoulders tightly. The gauntlets he wore bit through her light cotton shirt sleeves, to the point she was sure it would draw blood. She tried to wriggle away from him, but it was impossible due to how strong he was.
"Stop, you're hurting me. Please!" she begged him as she tried to pull away. Estinien proved to be too strong even for her, who pushed her backward until she fell onto a nearby table. He was so close, their noses brushing slightly. He finally spoke.
"You left," he growled. His eyes churned like an angry ocean during a storm.
"What do you mean I left?" she was genuinely confused.
"You disappeared, no one knew where you'd gone. I... I couldn't find you. I searched for days at that bloody tower for any sign. And now you show up here out of the blue as if nothing happened," he was barely controlling his outrage as he spoke through clenched teeth.
"Calm down, you can obviously see I'm perfectly fine. Now let me go!"
"No! Don't you understand you, foolish woman? I... I can't lose you. I've lost everything else in my life and I can't..."
"Estinien, I understand you were worried. I in no way knew I would be pulled to another shard, trust me. However, I do have a job to do for the Scions. You can't just hide me away from danger every time it rears its ugly head. I have responsibilities to this star," she said, jutting her chin out and trying to pull away from his iron grasp.
"Fuck Hydaelyn, fuck Eorzea... they mean nothing."
"What are you even saying? And who are you to have any right to tell me where I can and can't be? You who's always sneaking off to gods know where. How is that fair, hmm? Is this why you came all this way, to yell at me?"
Estinien's fist crashed down onto the table next to her; he knew it was wrong to imply that she belonged to anyone alone... yet he wanted her to be his. Instead, he had to share her with the entire primal-cursed world. He loosened his grip to give her freedom. She sat up completely, smoothing her clothes as she eyed him.
"You are one of the most stubborn people I know. How can you be such a contender on the battlefield, and yet such an utter oaf when it comes to these things," she shook her head as her rage began to simmer.
"I meant what I said. I couldn't bear the thought of losing you,” Estinien said, looking away as his cheeks tinted a slight pink. He wasn’t one to normally express his emotions, only having done so in the heat of the moment.
“Hey, it’s ok,” she leaned over trying to catch his attention, “you’re allowed to feel things. I know what it’s like to lose everything. You don’t have to be alone anymore.”
Estinien looked into her deep brown eyes, and only found genuine concern there. He removed the cold steel gauntlets, dropping them in the table as he closed the gap between them. He gently tilted her chin up, leaning in to softly seal his lips to hers. She eagerly accepted, deepening the kiss as she pulled him in closer to her. Behind them, the main entrance door creaked open and closed.
“Oh! Pardon me! I’ll just go back outside!” squeaked out the tiny voice of one very overwhelmed Tataru. Phoebe smiled up at Estinien as they reluctantly pulled apart. She knew that Krile and Tataru had been looking for him for some time; he’d want to escape as quickly as possible. The time had come to part ways again.
“No, it’s alright Tataru. I needed to go check on the Scions and Estinien was just about to leave,” she called cheerily to the girl. She stood up, fetching his lance from the corner by the door as he put his gauntlets back on.
As they walked out into the cool night air, Phoebe turned to him and wrapped her arms around his neck. She pulled him down to her, pressing their foreheads together in a moment of reassurance.
“Go on, I promise I will stay out of trouble if you do the same, alright?” she said quietly to him as she pulled back to look into his eyes. He nodded wordlessly, a small smile spread across his face. She kissed him one last time and waved as she made her way back inside. A part of her went with him as he left; the part that would always be his.

Note
are OSP's videos (or at least the Irish mythology ones) that bad? like, that's a genuine question - i watched and pretty superficially enjoyed a lot of them when i was younger, but i can definitely understand how there could be a lot of issues in there!
Honestly, I don’t know! Which is partially why I’d like to see how they handle this stuff, because despite being an eternal pessimist when it comes to this sort of thing, I’m WILLING to give it a shot. God knows that we need better publicly available information on this sort of thing.
What I’ve noticed, in general, not necessarily with OSP, is that there is a tendency to do some of the following (which, really.....we bear some of the blame as well, us in the field, because we don’t have many good resources that are readily available):
Over-pantheonization - You’ll notice that, when I talk about the Tuatha Dé, I almost NEVER say “Oh, yeah, Óengus was the god of love/Bres was the god of agriculture/Lugh was the god of light/etc.” I tend to only do it for figures where we have some idea of, either from the texts or from comparative studies with other Celtic cultures. (For example, Bríg being a patron goddess of smiths/poets/doctors, possibly with a darker element of grief and mourning in there - I never say she’s a fire goddess for the same reason I don’t say anything about the others.) In the field, we tend to be VERY careful with those sorts of labels even among the few of us who still argue for a pre-Christian influence on this sort of thing (I’m not proud to say that number is shrinking, I’m a bit of a throwback in that sense, namely because I had a very, very persuasive supervisor.) Looking at the wiki, I have noticed that, for example, Balor’s labelled “The God of Destruction” - I don’t know whether anyone says that IN the video, but....people generally wouldn’t say that in the field. And something I’ve noticed is that even a lot of the better retellings tend to fall into this trap, most likely because it’s present in a lot of the Victorian sources like Lady Gregory’s Gods and Fighting Men. (Which is brilliant, tbh, despite it showing its age.)
Need to create a more coherent narrative than we have/failure to recognize that Celticists are actually.....there: You have NO IDEA how often I’ll see a write-up of a myth and I’ll see someone say something like “Some say that Bríg was born via a fiery arrow being inserted up the Dagda’s ass, while others contend that she was born via a magic cow.” Now, I won’t fault people for not knowing the big names in the field - I’m pleasantly DELIGHTED when people do, but I don’t expect it, nor do I REALLY expect people to know the finer details about the various recensions, etc. BUT what I do kind of expect is for people to at least say where they got this stuff from. (And salvage years of my life that have been lost when people use Robert Graves without citing Robert Graves.) Some of it’s legitimate variations in the tradition! That happens! But some of it’s taking Peter Beresford Ellis’ Celtic Creation Myth and using it, and then it takes us years to remind people that there IS no surviving creation myth. (Might have been at one point, but not now. We don’t have it.) Which, yes, I do know that ONE video series used, though I don’t know whether OSP used it.
Incidentally, like. Celticists ARE willing to consult on this sort of thing. I have low enough self esteem/am desperate enough to get good information out that I’d literally consult for free. I know plenty of other grad students who’d do the same thing. I have a friend who acted as a consultant for the RPG Scion on their use of the myths, my supervisor translated an Irish spell for the TV show Grimm (yes, really).....this stuff CAN happen. People just choose not to.
Flattening of the characters into fantasy archetypes. I get this ESPECIALLY with Cath Maige Tuired-esque stuff, where people.......make the good guys Good™ and the bad guys Bad™. Lugh is the Flawless Hero (nevermind that he does routinely....send people to their cruel, painful deaths), Balor/Bres is Sauron the Evil Overlord (despite both of them having Layers to them. Like ogres. But like. Viking ogres.)
Also, personal bitch point: CATH MAIGE TUIRED AND LEBOR GABÁLA ÉRENN ARE TWO SEPARATE TEXTS. THE EVENTS OF CMT DO TAKE PLACE DURING THE COURSE OF LGE, BUT THE TWO CONTRADICT ONE ANOTHER ON MULTIPLE POINTS, NOT THE LEAST BECAUSE LGE ISN’T ONE TEXT; IT’S A COLLECTION OF POEMS AND PROSE PRESERVED ACROSS MULTIPLE RECENSIONS IN A TRENCHCOAT, WITH LITERALLY HUNDREDS OF SCRIBES HAVING CONTRIBUTED TO IT. TO MERGE THE TWO TOGETHER DOESN’T TAKE INTO ACCOUNT THE NUACES OF BOTH. CAN RETELLINGS PLEASE STOP MERGING THEM?
...okay, bitch rant over.
Since I know that one of their videos deals with LGE, that does particularly worry me because VERY FEW retellings do LGE justice. As I implied in my above bitch rant, it’s a highly, highly complex text, it’s difficult to work with, and the central problem is that a lot of people don’t REALIZE it’s difficult to work with. The current, unmatched edition/translation of it, that includes ALL the recensions, is, notoriously, five volumes long and it’s a minor hobby in the field to poke fun of how bad it is, but no one’s going to do their own. And a lot of retellings are, at the very least, neo-colonialist in how they treat, say, the Fir Bolg. I don’t trust. ANYONE with the Fir Bolg until they really, really prove themselves.
I WILL say that, going on the TV Tropes page (like the good, brave researcher I am), I’m pleased that at least it LOOKS (?) like they raise an eyebrow to the Cú Chulainn/Áife situation - That’s a personal bugbear of mine, not the least because even people in the field can minimize what actually happened there.  (And, subsequently, why I’ll never stop talking about it. Because I exist to prop up the characters that routinely get screwed over in order to bolster the “heroes”, bonus if they’re women.)
In general, at this point, I don’t REALLY trust anything, BUT I’m willing to give it a chance because I never know. I could be very, very pleasantly surprised.

Cederic Beumont
Cederic Beumont is a French artist (and prostitute) turned mad scientist throughout multiple events happening in his early adulthood. He is the oldest twin out of him and his sister, Cassandra, and the two of them were raised by their single father in a small village in France. After the death of their father by the age of twenty, Cederic and his sister travel around Europe until they move to America, where they lived for five years. During those five years, Cederic and Cassandra-- previously inseparable-- have a falling out which ends in Cederic storming out and leaving Cassandra to run the hotel they had set up on the coast of Florida. The falling out, combined with a lot of other stressful and dramatic things happening around him, manages to make Cederic’s mental health crumble until he practically goes insane. Previously an artist, Cederic turns to science in hopes of being able to achieve something that would make him “more” than his sister, who always has been the “smarter” one out of the two of them, which ends up in him studying Frankenstein’s life like the Holy Bible. He gets obsessed with the study of lightning and he gets obsessed with the idea to one-up God, as he previously had been born and raised Catholic, and he feels like he would be able to do everything that Frankenstein failed to do (take care of Creature, own up to the responsibilities, keep the innocent safe, etc) despite having no proof of him being able to do everything differently.
With the help of his boyfriend, Wilhelm, and Wilhelm's biology studying friends, he manages to continue his experiments. He moves between calling himself a Fulminologic Necromancer and a Necromantic Fulminologist, depending on the people he surrounds himself with, as he studies lightning as a whole and applies the knowledge to necromancy. His early experiments involves reviving dead animals with the use of electricity, although he does dabble in alchemy and chemistry when it’s needed.
Around the time he is 30 years old, he hears the word upon the street about the Society For Arcane Sciences in London, England. His boyfriend helps him scrap in enough money for a one-way ticket to London on the promise that they will still hold contact, to which Cederic immediately agrees. He travels to London by ship and marvels over how fantastically dirty and gross the entire city is, there is slums everywhere! So many animals and mythical creatures!! The moment he is within the city walls, he manages to find Sergeant Enoch Brokenshire and pleads for him to show Cederic the way to the Society. Brokenshire is, of course, very put off by this hyper-energetic bastard he can barely hear over his (normally trained away) french accent, but Brokenshire does not get paid enough to care. He basically just grabs Cederic by the collar and drags him like a stray cat over to the Society and to Dr. Henry Jekyll’s office, to which he basically dumps him on the doorstep and leaves. As Jekyll practically collects scientists, and as they already have a necromancer in the Society, Jekyll welcomes Cederic with open arms and shows him around, unaware how Cederic... is an actual mad scientist, not just using that word as a moniker.
Cederic quickly becomes friends with Sinnett and Luckett, all three of them having a knack to blow things up and play with fire. Cederic also loves to harass Tanis, the local necromancer, as he loves that they practically study the same thing and did you know this and that and wouldn’t it be cool to blow up a corpse? You know Moreau might actually have been onto something with the animals and yadeyadeyada-- Tanis does not like Cederic. Cederic thinks that they are best friends.
Cederic joins the Society sometime before the events of TGS, however, immediately jumps all over both Jasper and Frankenstein like a yappy dog excited to have new friends. He is absolutely in love with Frankenstein, much like everyone else, but quickly has a change of heart as he feels she is a wimp, because he could do this and that so much better and why would you do x y and z when you could have done a b c instead. He has a massive ‘R.I.P to them but I’m different’ complex and feels like Frankenstein can’t own up to her work and her legendary image like she should. He thinks he can one-up her, and basically tries to snatch her stuff and studies when she isn’t looking. Creature would very much like to bonk him over the head with a frying pan.
Cederic also has a pet ghost cat-- or more or less spirit cat as she has never actually been alive-- that he has had since he was a baby. He named her Adelaide-Antoinette because he is french and extra like that, and the two of them are actually inseparable, as Adelaide is connected to Cederic through a bunch of magical hijinx. Adelaide can talk to Cederic, however, no one else can hear or see her, making most people think that Cederic is genuinely insane as he is not afraid to walk around talking to himself. The only one who knows about Adelaide is Maijabi, who saw her in one of his ghost mirrors one time, but he thinks its fun to see the other Lodgers thinking that Cederic is insane, so he doesn’t say anything.
Random Trivia: Cederic is originally my DND character, played in a specific type of campaign called Scion. It takes place in the real life world, and our campaign is set during the 1960′s if WW2 had never ended. Cederic and Cassandra were originally forced to flee by the outbreak of the war and the invasions of France. Scion is also based on mythologies, were the player characters (the Scions) are children of the ancient gods. Cassandra and Cederic are children of the egyptian god Bastet, ergo, the ghost cats.

Adelaide-Antoinette
Adelaide-Antoinette is a spirit and companion cat connected to Cederic. She has been by Cederic’s side for as long as he can remember and her, her sass, and her snobbishness were many of the core influences that shaped Cederic into the person he was before his mental breakdown he is today.
Adelaide is a Birman and lives up to the snobbish reputations of such breeds. When she is particularly feisty, she likes to sit on top of Cederic’s head and use him as her steed, and also loves to call him a peasant. She is also very territorial, and very protective of Cederic too. She is basically the epitome of “No one is allowed to bully him but me”. She is also very vocal and loves to have Cederic seem like he is talking to himself. Cederic has a knack to recite Hamlet and other Shakespeare plays to her, and while it’s fun for him, Adelaide wish she could bite his tongue off after the 10th recitation. After so many years, the recites might be up in the thousands.
Adelaide also did not like all the other creatures in the Society immediately, but quickly realized that it was either them or Cederic forever, to which she quickly began to force herself to warm up to them. Her favourite is Jasper’s unicorn, who most likely share her snobbishness, but a close second is Zosi and Griffin’s cat. When she is particularly mad at Cederic, as he tends to neglect her a little once he gets caught up in his work, she likes to hang around Maijabi as he is the only other living person who can see her. Cederic also uses her to spy on the others sometimes, as she can go through walls and can’t be seen.

——————Humans——————
Collin O’Jekyll
Collin O’Jekyll is Henry Jekyll’s “paternal uncle” and also his make-shift father. Collin and Henry loved each other from day one and the two of them often spend most of their free time in the pastures with Collin’s horses. Collin is an artist, who dabbles in both writing and art, but mainly breeds and sells horses for income, despite not really needing it due to his inheritance. He has always been supportive of Henry’s scientific interests and was the one to take him out to all of the scientific plays that Henry watched as a child, as his parents were less than supportive of the boy’s interests.  While mainly breeding and raising horses, Collin also buys and takes care of every animal he can get his hands on. One of his oldest pets is a male calico Maine Coon named Paddington, who got dumped by his breeder for being male. All of Collin’s animals seem to hate everyone but him, and of course, Henry. Collin also bred and gifted Henry his own horse once he turned 15; a dapple grey Clydesdale named Mayhem, named after her fiery temper. Much like Paddington, she hates everyone but her owner.
Random Trivia: Collin has a very weak immune system and therefore always wears a scarf, no matter the season or weather. He also knows how to sword fight and taught Henry a few tricks before he left Scotland. He is mainly a very cheerful and optimistic guy but won’t hesitate to throw hands if you try to hurt those he loves.

Douglas O’Jekyll
Douglas O’Jekyll is Henry’s “biological” father and Collin’s older brother, but dislikes his role as both father and brother. He is a policeman and known for his ruthlessness and hatred for those he deems have done wrong, and he also has a massive superiority complex. He has always disliked Collin greatly and the two of them have always had a rivalry between them, however, that rivalry got to it’s boiling point when Douglas and Collin were in an accident as kids, mainly caused by Collin unintentionally during a riding trip in the Highlands, which made Douglas earn some of his scars and bred the resentment between the two of them even more. Douglas has always been disapproving of Henry’s... Well, he has always been majorly disapproving with anything that comes to Henry. He dislikes Henry’s love for his uncle, his scientific interests, Henry’s friends, his wish to become a doctor... Douglas dislikes pretty much everything with Henry, which might have its grounds in Henry looking like and taking after a lot from his uncle. As Henry grows older, Douglas’ dislike for both him and Collin grows stronger, and Douglas starts getting outspoken of his hatred for Henry. He also gets physical every once in a while, which was one of the reasons for why Henry left Scotland completely despite Collin doing his best to protect him.
Random Trivia: His scars are either from the Accident, from his work as a policeman and also from many of Collin’s animals. He has a family pedant made out of emerald with a ‘J’ for Jekyll in it, as he is the first born and the heir of the family. He has always felt like Collin was the favourite with everything, both by their parents and by the fact that Douglas’ own son and wife likes Collin more than him, which just bred his resentment for his younger brother even more.

Abigail O’Jekyll (Née O’Haggins)
Abigail is Henry’s mother and Douglas’ wife. She comes from a long line of Scottish non-aristocratic nobles and she is the oldest out of six sisters, making her the main heir of the O’Haggins as she has no brothers. In her youth, she was very sought after by many bachelors, and met the O’Jekyll brothers during a ball hosted by her parents. She immediately took a liking to Collin and during the dances, they fell quite in love. However, as the first born, she was forced to marry Douglas instead due to pressuring from her parents who deemed Douglas more worthy than Collin, but she and Collin continued their relationship in secret. Both Douglas and Abigail knows that neither really loves the other all that much but they play their parts due to societal expectations, even if that doesn’t make Douglas any happier when the suspicion of Abigail’s and Collin’s relationships arise. Abigail is, too, not very supportive of Henry’s scientific interests due to all of its stigma and consequences that it can bear, not to mention that she is quite afraid of Douglas’ reactions to Henry’s continuous love for science, but she allows Henry to pursue non-harmful studies in secret to keep him happy, as his happiness is the most important thing for her. She does her best to be a good mother and succeeds in that, although everyone has their bad moments. Random Trivia: While Henry looks more like Douglas and Collin, Hyde takes after Abigail’s side of the family. She wears a locket with an ‘A’ on it with a picture of Collin and Henry inside, which needs a lock to be opened (mostly to keep Douglas from discovering the photo). While she is indifferent to most animals, she loves cats (that are well behaved, which rules out all of Collin’s cats) and she likes horses, although she will never, ever ride one ever again after she fell into a hay bail when Collin tried to get her to ride one of his horses. Paddington
Paddington is one of Collin’s most beloved cats. He is a male, calico coated Maine Coon that got dumped by his breeder for being a male calico (therefore, sterile). He lived in the streets for a while until Collin found and adopted him, to which Paddington immediately became a little diva who hates everyone but Collin and Henry. He is the cause of some of Douglas’ scars and have torn more than one of Abigail’s dresses, but is as good as gold to Collin and Henry.

Mayhem
Mayhem is Henry’s own horse that Collin bred and helped Henry to raise. She is a dapple grey Clydesdale named after her fiery temper and knack for chaos, much like most animals that Collin has been responsible for. She is quite spoiled but very well behaved when needed to be, and she often thinks that she is the mother of those she likes, such as Henry, Paddington, Zosi and Collin. Once Henry left Scotland, she was one of the few things he took with him, and he still owns her to this day; allowing her to live her best, destruction-bringing life in London, striking terror in every stable boy in the entire city.
