König is a big guy, there’s a lot of limbs to manage. he’s prone to forgetting how tall and wide he is, bumping against doorframes and stubbing his toes are normal occurrences for him. usually he’ll just cuss under his breath, grumble when he bumps against the edge of a table

König doesn’t make much noise when he gets hurt - at least, when it’s something he can walk off. but, once you’ve been around him enough you start to take note of him bumping into things. he really is a bull in a china shop, unintentionally, but all the same. he’s elbowed a wall, kneed a chair, gotten hooked on door handles

it isn’t until he forgets to duck under a doorframe that you hear him make a louder noise, “Aua— Verdammt!”. smacked in the forehead, he’s got his palm held up to his head as he takes a step back, hissing at the sting. he only turns around to face you when he hears your soft laughter. eyes squinting and nose scrunched from the mild pain, he grumbles, “Was? Why are you laughing?”

maybe it was because his voice got a little high pitched, or maybe it was just the action itself, but it has you in a fit of giggles, “I’m sorry, it’s just— I don’t know, s’just funny.”, you chuckle, smiling a little wider when he scoffs. “Very funny, sure. You’re so immatur— gah!”, it only makes you laugh harder when he turns to walk away and accidentally bangs his head again, too caught up from talking to you to remember to duck again

IDW Waspinator x Reader

• It’s the sound of something breaking downstairs that drags you out of sleep, squinting in the dark and trying to decide if the noise has been inside the house or outside. There’s another crash with the sound of breaking glass and an odd scraping. Breath hitching, you lunge for your phone and turn on its light, swinging it and yanking the chord out of the wall and nearly screaming. Because there are glowing purple optics staring back at you. “Waspinator?” How had he gotten into the house? You’d left him out in the barn and locked the door behind you when you went in. But he’s different now, looking like a giant wasp to slip ice into your veins.

• “Lonely.” You’re just staring at him, but not yelling at him to go away. Not hitting him or throwing things. So it’s okay? It must be okay. Small, new friend likes Waspinator. Your nest is soft and it creaks under him when he climbs up with you. He’d mass shifted and transformed to get through the door of your dwelling and to maneuver the narrow hall. And you make a funny noise when something cracks and your nest crashes down with him and you both. Antenna flattening back he waits for the anger, but you just stare at him mouth hanging open. Not hitting him or yelling at all.

• Frozen, you stare at the giant, alien wasp that just broke your bed frame. Because he got lonely. And making a happy, humming noise, he just flops down. On you. Head on your chest knocking the air out of your lungs and you flat back on the bed as he throws an insectile leg across your hips. There’s no going back to sleep with him pinning you, mandibles way too close to your face and he’s making a faint buzzing hum. And you desperately want to shove him away from you, but your heart is racing like a mad thing. Because in this form? You’re suddenly realizing you’re scared to death of wasps. Giant wasps specifically. “Little friend?” He asks, purple optics glowing and too close as his antenna swing forward to brush your hair. Cringing, you just nod, because you can’t argue with him when those sharp mandibles are right there.

• “Yeah, sure. Friends,” you tell him, head turning away from his exploration with his antenna. Not angry with him. Even reaching to pat him so gently on the head with a soft hand. Accepting him. Relaxing against your warmth, he tries to figure out if anyone has ever touched him gently before. Everyone always pushes him away, hurts him, but his little soft friend likes him. No one’s ever liked Waspinator.

• Trapped under him, you stare at the shadowy ceiling as your heart beat slows to normal because he’s not doing anything but making it hard to breathe with his weight sprawled across you. He’s not trying to tear you apart with those awful mandibles, just cuddling against you like a big puppy. A terrifyingly ugly, alien puppy. He’d said he was lonely then asked if you were his friend. Staying on his good side definitely sounds like a plan and besides, that little ‘lonely,’ had sounded so broken.

I dont think the fandom talks about it but i really love that every single piece of sky clothing is embroidered, because unless skyloft has embroidery machines thats all hand done. Which means either someone he knows makes a lot of them and gives them out freely (i give most of my projects to friends and family) or he would have paid someone for it, which means that either someone on skyloft lives of decorating clothing (and likely other fabrics) or someone just uses it to get some extra money (both are amazing since in the modern day people dont want to pay for handcrafted works what its actually worth)

What chapters would you say are your favourite characterisations for each of the voices? I ask because a lot of the way they act is very much based on what chapter they’re in :3c

Ooooohhh, that's a good one…… I take all the different ways they're portrayed in these chapters in consideration to inform different facets of them, but if I were to choose a favorite, let's see–

Contrarian: As much as I like seeing their more spiteful side in Fury and Apotheosis, and their line readings in Razor is fucking top-notch, nothing can beat the character arc they go through in Stranger for me. It's just. so good. Love this clown who's full of resentment and guilt <3

Cheated: Torn between Cage and Wraith…… Wraith, because seeing her bond with Cold over their mutual hatred for the narrator is just so fun, and how she goes about suggesting throwing Wraith in the pit ("Fuck those two. Let's flip the table!" how Contrarian of you Cheated) is just incredible to me. But I also really like how Cage shows that as sympathetic as Cheated can be, she can still fall into doing cruel things just to assert control over her circumstances, even to her own detriment. That's some good stuff.

Skeptic: EotN Skeptic, my beloved…… I feel like after pris-cut, people started focusing too much on Cage for Skeptic's characterization. Which doesn't feel fair, when that's him at his most stressed and desperate to cling to any semblance of control. It's still a very interesting look into his character, but people seem to be taking that as his default, and not him in dire circumstances. In Eye of the Needle, though, Skeptic is much calmer and even friendly, trying to gas Stubborn up to get him to help. He has a theory and a very simple set of circumstances to test, and even seems a bit excited to test it. Also shout out to Den Skeptic, the moment when he realizes the Princess is more than just a moment is everything to me. He's got low empathy, but he tries to be fair to others <3

Smitten: Sighs, really wish we got to see more of him, really feels like out of anyone, his character is really underexplored, which is a shame. Character-wise, though, gotta give it to Burned Grey. He's just…… so fucking devastated, lashing out at everyone around him, and the way he quickly switches up the moment we see the princess aikskkdmdk This chapter is what really shows where Smitten's priorities are to me. Her safety. Her happiness. At the expense of anyone and anything, even himself. And if he has to hurt, to burn alive, to get to it, he will.

Stubborn: Listen…… the way he managed to have such good chemistry with Adversary despite never speaking to her directly is just sijsjddjjdjdjf SO GOOD SIKSKDKJDKFJ. And I love, LOOOOOVE how he isn't the cliché 'ew, emotions' kinda tough guy. No, he feels, and he feels STRONGLY, you can even get him and Ada to sob in this route I'm just simskjdmdjjdjfj THEM!!!

Broken: Call me a contrarian (heh), but I love seeing Broken getting worse and doubling down on his devotion lol. It's more engaging, OK? And how spiteful and even mean he gets in Tower-Fury is just so good akmskkdmmdjdjd

Hunted: Den with Skeptic…… Just. Seeing this lil guy who was so so afraid of Beast finally get to understand her, to connect to her, and be the one urging you to reach out to her is SO GOOD. Also, the ending where you end up trapped under the rocks with her, when Hunted realizes there's no escape, and it just says it'll lay down and rest for a moment…… OUGH.

Opportunist: Gotta go with Wraith for him too aikskdjdjdjdis Not only is him hilarious there, but also surprisingly competent??? He actually manages to successfully suck up to the princess here???? The surprise factor of it matched with just how funny he is really bumped him up for me when I first saw this version of the route lol

Cold: Another one where their own route just can't be beaten to me akmskddmxmdm. I just love how even after murdering her in cold blood and suggesting we try to kill her again, Cold still gets along with the Princess so well. I also just really like his insights in this route when you decide to free her, about where does a world ends and another begins. It just goes to show how detached he is from reality. (Also, him casually insulting the Narrator every other sentence is just too good lol).

Paranoid: Apotheosis……… What I think is interesting though, is that while on the outside, it looks like Paranoid is 'winning' here, I think she's never been losing it more. She just confirmed that there are no fucking rules. This world is whatever they think it can be. And for someone with a lot of intrusive thoughts (no, it isn't Cold who's 'intrusive thoughts personified', stop calling him that, it's medically inaccurate and honestly insulting to people who actually suffer from intrusive thoughts), the mere idea of it is TERRIFYING. And I think she reaizes that just as they go to that epic fight, which is why she laughs like that, and why the fall is so hard on her and immediately makes her back down and feel like everything's doomed again. For a person full of delusions and intrusive thoughts, the construct is a fucking nightmare world (pun intended).

Hero: Now, for him, I just can't choose one route for his characterization. Out of all the voices, I think he's the most important one to really take into account how he can act in each route when characterizing him. I love his complexities and different facets so much, I made them into a plural system wkmsdmdkdmd he's just. sighs. Hero, my beloved <3

These are just some fics I enjoyed reading (or from what I remember anyways), most of these are angst or some kind of hurt/comfort and please mind the tags🙏 I don’t think any of these recs have super heavy material (again from what I can remember but still). I’ve highlighted my faves in orange (hope that doesn’t cause readability issues) this will also probably be a long post sorry!

Most of thornbacks fics are pretty good in terms of how Alphonse is written, I don’t think they’ve done any fics centred on only Alphonse but every time I read a thornback fic I like how Alphonse is written in them, and in most of their fics Alphonse and his feelings are never really forgotten which I appreciate.

“Simple things” by PrinRue over on fanfic.net (I love this one so much, it’s still going atm too!. It’s not solely Alphonse focused but it does have like Alphonse focused chapters if that makes sense and I love them so so much and there’s a lot of great writing for Ed, winry and even pinako which is always great, it’s my fave fma fic atm)

“Close your eyes I’ll be here in the morning” by alphonselrics ( I read this one a while ago so I can’t remember much of this fic aside of bits and pieces here and there but I remember getting so excited every time I saw it had updated and that I enjoyed reading it a lot. Fic focused on als recovery. )

“You don’t have to go through this alone” by September bugs ( another post promised day Alphonse fic, with some parental riza and Roy thrown in. Mostly about Al struggling with his body and being overwhelmed by his regained senses, sweet ending :] )

All of the fics in “Alphonse elrics guide on how to spend your sleepless nights” by c_c_cherry (I always find myself going back to read this series every once in a while, the second one with riza is my fave)

“Musicology” by DeadlyGlacier ( just a really sweet Alphonse and winry fic )

“Of hospitals and health” by ReminiscentRevelry (post promised day fic with Al and Roy talking in the hospital )

“50 ways to explain a suit of armour” by kastaborous ( I remember finding this one pretty funny and an enjoyable read, there’s also an Edward variant by the same person I’m p sure)

I remember reading this one for the first time and going back to re-read sections because they were so good to me. Makes you feel really sad for Alphonse and the horrible things he must’ve been going through post transmutation and actually made my chest hurt those first couple times reading it, honestly can’t recommend it enough, if you read any fics from this list please let it be this one. Very sad but with a little nice moment with Alphonse and winry at the end)

“What” by bees cheese (silly fic from an outside perspective of someone listening to Ed and als convo)

“Life where we all are” by elkatt (hughes and Alphonse 💔)

“Dignity” by FollowerOfMercy (lovely fic, really, really like it, has some angst and takes place in the early days post-transmutation. Alphonse trying to regain a sense of humanity💔 and moments between him and pinako, my fave)

“Camping and cussing” by wakingnightmares ( silly sibling banter that makes me smile)

“Chasm” by AnEquivalentExchange (takes place after the scar fight)

“Touch” by TwitchySmurph (little fic taking place a bit after the transmutation)

“The old tomorrow doesn’t exist anymore” by Alphonsevebop (long fic with an interesting plot, focuses on Ed and winry too but I remember liking how Alphonse was written and being excited for updates)

“His little brother” by plateofpie (very sweet and I remember liking the premise of this one, feels realistic too, which I liked)

“An armoured cage” by plateofpie (really liked this one but I felt so bad for Alphonse gah💔 love reading fics about how people react to Alphonse and what he looks like in the armour. He’s still so young too and I feel like he’s written really well here, Alphonse oughhh💔 takes place during canon and focuses on the kind of attention Alphonse would probably get due to his armour and how he feels about it)

“What makes a human” by Emmmmy ( focus on Roy and Alphonse. Really like how Alphonse is written in this one, he really feels his age and the back and forth with mustang is so enjoyable to read imo)

I also apologise for some of the rambles next to the fics too but some of them are so good I just have to and I felt it might be a good idea to give a basic rundown of some of the fics anyways. Parrot the type of guy to go “this is for you!!” And then miss horrifically. My silly silly bird, fuck it making a uu actor au cause I can’t take the angst anymore. After the.. Wormhole.. and as Parrot is leaving Lifesteal, Ls spoke asks parrot if he would make a story scripted smp with him so that they could continue to make stories together, this time without hurting eachother. They bring Wemmbu because he’s silly enough to balance out their horrific angst storytelling. Parrot, remembering when Wifies(evilfies) joined ls as a guest, the cool puzzles he solves, and the times they’ve solved puzzles together, thinks he’s the perfect person to play as his smart best friend. He reaches out to Wifies (clonefies cause this is after kww lore) and clonefies, wanting to change and remake his opinion and experiences with acting while solving puzzles, agrees. Though Just as a trial run at first, he finds that the uu cast are really funny and smart people and that acting, with full control and unthreatened, is fun. Parrot does know that clonfies isn’t evilfies cause they act differently but he thinks it’s cool to kill the dude who manipulated you(havocduo…). THIS is how kww lore and Lifesteal can connect without anger or pain

Also!! Squiddo and Ash confirmed that Squiddo was the guard in the copper trim. Before parrot came to the house, they were watching Ironman 3 LMAO -👁️🦜

delaila and badruu do know though which brings SUCH an interesting level to nai'o's issues! like they don't fully understand auni but they are fully aware of nai'o's responsibilities and tendency to carry the world on his shoulders. and they try to help! but!! they're also canonically struggling financially, overworked, exhausted and can't help him as much as they want to. not only has nai'o chosen his path, but if he did stop helping them, they would lose even more. and they all know this!!

delaila especially shows a lot of guilt over this but no one really knows how to stop it. so they just encourage nai'o to take breaks and to not help where he's not Needed. and they both ask the player to help him out and take the load off his shoulders, but it's never enough. nai'o is So intrinsically aware of his parents struggles and he would never Stop helping them. to do so would mean less money for the family, his parents being even more overworked than they already are, and auni potentially having to step in at a young age. and again, i do fully believe that nai'o genuinely loves farming, but the stress of wanting to make sure his parents don't keel over from overworking themselves has caused him to overwork himself. and they know this!! they know how overworked he is, and how he keeps saying "yes" to doing things even when he shouldn't, and they try to help,,, but it's never enough :')

and while i believe that auni would still want to do something other than farming even if they didn't have these issues, i wonder if seeing just how overworked his entire family is contributed to that. maybe he would enjoy it more if he wasn't constantly seeing them stress over finances and bills. constantly seeing nai'o take on more and more. constantly seeing parental guilt. it's a lot for anyone, but especially a young kid.

ohhmmyygooood im so stupid i literally just realized that a big reason auni likes hanging out with hassian (besides tau lol and hassian genuinely being good with kids) is cause hassian is literally doing what auni wants to do! he's living out in nature, exploring, "going on adventures", and meeting new, mysterious people!! auni must think he's so cool dude :')

He's not ashamed that he's a bit of a jerk- he's not some sniffling little softie and he thinks others reactions are funny... what do you expect him to do here in the circus? Sit and play nice? Yeah. Honestly the fact that you were aware that it was a shitty thing for you to do- but still did it- only makes things worse. It wasn't an accident, or a mistake. It was an active choice that you were aware of

He doesn't even target in on you afterwards. Sure he's not going to make things easy for you- he will ignore you when you ask him for something or will give you shit

But.. there's still hurt. He'd never say it but what you've done did have some effect on him, even if he doesn't want to show it and let you 'win'

rui subconsciously preparing himself for rejection even when he first meets wxs… ough my heart </3

obviously the main story is meant to introduce rui’s eccentricities comically, but is it just me or is he also just testing tsukasa in ch 9?

he reads tsukasa’s script and then goes on to suggest LIGHTNING. as if conjuring concentrated electricity is the most normal thing in the world. and he KNOWS he seems insane for it

he even highlights the danger of it to tsukasa, making it seem like he’s not prioritizing tsukasa’s safety at all, even though we know damn well he would beat himself up over it if he actually hurt anyone. (hell, the first wxs event was literally all about that) like, it very much seems like rui is exaggerating his own eccentric nature

and then when tsukasa is apprehensive about the idea, he’s dramatic, pulling out puppy eyes and seemingly joking around about leaving

and it might seem like some funny manipulative farce to force tsukasa to let rui test out whatever ideas he had, but alternatively, it might’ve just been a farce put up in order for rui to protect his feelings. he saw that tsukasa was backtracking, not actually as willing to surpass expectations as he claimed, so rui was genuinely going to leave, likely because he didn’t want to face tsukasa’s rejection and judgement. he had exemplified the risk, knowing how any normal person would react to it, because then he could just say “oh well, i knew nobody would want to do anything this crazy anyways.” he didn’t actually believe that someone would accept him or his ideas and was prepared to be alone as per usual

rui has FINALLY found people who are ready to carry out his ideas to the best of their abilities and he’s noticeably happier, which nene points out

after nene and rui part, he’s off excitedly shopping for parts and gadgets for the show. he’s found a place where he belongs. where he doesn’t have to face rejection anymore. where he has people who will support and actually fulfill his ideas. people who will see him as more than just a weirdo. he doesn’t have to be alone anymore.

this idea of a found home in wxs is reiterated in every rui event, and to think he was once afraid that they might reject him too </3
