Frankly I love everything about her. I love her design. I love her dialogue. I love that she is initially hostile but softens up as the story progresses. I love, even then, she never actually trusts the player wholly (she thinks you are a Sculpted Keeper, that's why she loosens up). Despite her sharp tongue and stinging condemnation, she shows over and over that there is a loving old grandma buried beneath the ash laid during the war. She's old. She's been watching her friends and family die all her life. She's watched her way of life slowly go extinct. But she faces the player with dignity. She makes soup with love. She tells the player to take a nap. She tells you to beat Messmer's ass.

least favorite thing about them

This is a petty detail, but it kinda bugs me that she says 'by the look of thee, another of Messmer's peons, methinks' about the player. Then later when the player wears the Divine Beast Dancing Lion mask, she mistakes them for a Sculpted Keeper because of their smell. I believe her horns made her blind, hence her recognition by scent later. But at the beginning they make it seem like she is still sighted. It feels like a minor oversight, but it bothered me haha.

But Gramma is perfect otherwise!

These lines are just so badass. She is an old woman 'looking' her would-be assassin in the eye and saying 'Do it, coward. You won't.' With a couple of lines we can see what a strong and proud woman she is. She fully expects to die, not understanding a Tarnished is not an agent of Messmer. But she refuses to be humiliated or cowed.

"I cannot presume thou didst not suffer... Please, I ask thee, allow thyself some rest. None of the tower would dare interfere. And if one should, I'll see to them myself!"

I also love this one. Once she lets her guard down she really is just a grandma. She is glad that Messmer is dead. But more than that, she is concerned about you. It's genuinely sweet.

I think all the Horned Warriors love her. She bosses them around and they all crave her praise. Like I said, she's a Grandma.

I also feel like her and the Omen Twins would get along eventually. She'd bust their balls so hard, and they'd bite back just as hard.

The Grandam is a respected leader in Belurat. Not because she was elected to or inherited any great position. But because she is one of the few elders of her clan that remembers the cultural practices that Messmer's armies are stomping out. Even the hornsent people call her Grandam because she's basically a grandmother to them all.

Hornsent Grandam isn't mean. If her 'rude' lines were given to Messmer to say ya'll (general) would be lapping it up. To be honest, I don't think most people dislike her, so this isn't really an 'unpopular' opinion. But all criticisms I see about her character are immensely bad faith. She's not 'fuckable' (ie, she's actually elderly) and a woman. So she must necessarily be dunked on to prop up the mediocre man that is her enemy.

I mean to be fair the writers in the latter half of the show were fully aware of all this fanon madness and threw them some bones. Katara and Zuko were trolled 2 times at being together, Toph hinted at katara having a secret thing with haru (whatever that means) amd she herself seemee very needy and jealous being the only one without a zuko field trip,suki and sokka did it.

When people watch the show without any social media or fanon influence after netflix aired atla all the canon pairings make total sense but when i think bryke indeed did some fanservice (the way zuko jumped in slowmo into the lightning) so the writers definitely knew what they were doing.

I really liked kataang in the first 2.5 seasons but the fact that tsr and eip are both 2 episodes in a row and we never see katara apologizing to either sokka or aang even had me like wtf (tsr is a good episode but still.) Then aang disappears on the lion turtle and katara is pretty chill compared to all the times before. It would be prob better to have a book 4 where they grew apart for a few years and saw how important they were to each other to give them the proper development but it is what it is.

While I'm all for a book 4, splitting the Gaang up would be a HUGE mistake. "This could ruin the whole show" kind of mistake. They all are at their best and grow the most when they are TOGETHER. Hell, that's the whole point of the life-changing field trips with Zuko. Let's not "fix" what isn't broken.

I wouldn't really say that Katara was "chill" after Aang disappeared. They were on the edge of the biggest battle of their lives so they had a LOT to focus on, and even Sokka just immediately thinks "He's probably in the spirit world doing Avatar stuff that will help save the day." Mysterious bullshit making Aang be away for a little while, be it physically or just spiritually/mentally, is a Tuesday for them at this point. They spent an entire episode waiting for Roku to be done telling his backstory with Sozin to him. Katara not losing her mind with concern because of something that happens regularly is not the same them growing apart.

And while an apology to Katara for the Ember Island thing or her apologizing to Aang and SPECIALLY Sokka after how she acted on Southern Raiders would be great, Avatar has a tendency of just skipping apologies that are kind of taken as a given - see Aang not apologizing to Toph after how he acted when Appa was kidnaped, or her and Katara not apologizing to each other after the events of The Chase. They tend to focus on apologies for bad behavior that lasted a whole arc (see Zuko apologizing to the Gaang and to Iroh).

And about the writers throwing shippers a bone with stuff like Katara and Zuko being mistaken for a couple - yeah, I can see how fan would like that. I also remember the characters getting visibly uncomfortable with it and that the show basically mocked the very concept of the ship through the Ember Island Players.

More importantly: fanservice is not foreshadowing, set up and/or development. For exemple: I LOVE Tokka as a ship, and I find Toph's crush on Sokka really cute. But it was always VERY CLEAR that it was one-sided and that the writers decided to make him end up with Suki. The fanservice made me happy, but it was not meant to be taken seriously, so I didn't.

Meanwhile Zutarians use five minutes of bait to argue that there was a whole conspiracy in which their OTP was meant to be endgame but evil Bryke ruined it at the last second. They've argued that Ember Island!Katara saying she likes Zuko and thinks of Aang as her little brother was a reflection of the REAL Katara's feelings, even though she explicitly said it was not the case and the show itself made it obvious that it is simply an INNACCURATE fanon take on the show.

No one would have an issue with Zutara shippers enjoying the little treats the writers gave them if they weren't so hellbent on claiming that those little moments somehow invalidate three seasons of Kataang, and one season (plus a few book 2 episodes) of Maiko. Not to mention the constant "If you dislike the ship/say it's not canon, then you're sexist/racist and I get to harass you."

You can't be "fair" to people that are asking to be allowed to be unfair to everyone else. They need to grow the fuck up first and realize that, if they want to be left alone, they shouldn't go around picking up petty fights with people then complaining when they get punched.

How I feel about this character

Omg okay, I like Leona a lot. I think that he's a character out of Yana's usual comfort zone which I find extremely interesting, if that makes sense? I don't think she's written anyone quite like him before, and as an avid fan of her work since Rust Blaster, that's very intriguing for me and was the first draw to this character. I can see parallels between personality for so many other characters to those from other works of hers ( cain and lilia, kei and silver, ciel/o!ciel and riddle, sebastian and jade/malleus, druitt and rook, kalim and soma, sebek and edward, etc. ) But Leona is pretty new characterization imo, especially given the pretty clear information we're given that he struggles with depression. It isn't easy to write characters with mental illness, but so many of the TWST characters have some type of it and they're all very well written. Leona's way of coping is what's perceived as his ' laziness ' or the constant napping. I think that's fabulous. He doesn't explain himself regarding it and he doesn't want to; he's a very private person when it comes to personal matters and he hides that behind an uncaring and sometimes borderline cruel facade in order to make sure people give him a wide berth so that he can deal with his own stuff and be alone with himself while simultaneously not letting it affect others. He does this a lot, with the Spelldrive tournament and his OB being the exception since that clearly meant a lot to him, and probably brought out/triggered a very old inferiority complex surrounding his relationship with his brother ( deemed the successful golden child ) whom I'm sure he saw parallels with in Malleus and his success.

Beyond the portrayal of his complicated mental health and complexities surrounding his family, however, I also love his not-so-secret soft side that comes out in small ways, mostly around his underclassmen. From letting Riddle sleep on his lap for three hours after they were kidnapped, to allowing Epel to follow him around all day to ' observe his manliness ', and even protecting Jack from upperclassmen who were bullying him, Leona is quite good to those who are younger, and often times in a sense weaker than he is, which fills my heart because it just goes to show that he has some innate instinct towards caring for others, something which he probably used to have towards the people of his Kingdom as well, but something that he's struggled to uphold as he's become more and more jaded whilst growing up and seeing how little he himself mattered in comparison to his brother, in the eyes of both the royal family and, very likely, his people, since he's merely the ' spare ' rather than the ' heir '.

All the people I ship romantically with this character

Ruggieeeeee. My OTP is 100% Leoruggie. They make me so incredibly happy. I picture Ruggie as the type of person who simply doesn't bond with over people beyond surface level as a defense mechanism. He grew up extremely poor, literally having to eat out of garbage cans while he took care of his elderly grandmother and lives under the oppression of lions. But I fully think that the reason he first started sticking to Leona wasn't actually money or favors or anything of the sort, but because he saw something in Leona that he hadn't seen before. I think Leona is probably the first person of high status that Ruggie has ever met, the first royal, and the first lion to treat him like anything more than trash on the side of the road. After meeting Leona, they spoke normally, joked like equals, and all of that probably made Ruggie feel like he'd found a kindred spirit...as did Leona's frustration that - despite having all the skills to do so - he couldn't seem to climb higher than the station he was given at birth.

Still, I think Ruggie decided to start following Leona because he became a beacon of light for him, and of hope that if they were somehow able to get him on the throne one day, things might change for Ruggie's people. Or even if he didn't get to the throne, as a royal, Leona could still do something to participate in moving their society forward and uplifting the less fortunate. But I think he wants to help hoist Leona up in the world however he can regardless, because Leona is so different from everyone else he'd ever met, and because he sees the world from a different point of view. Different ideals, and all of that. And besides that, I think he probably felt like he’d found belonging with him.

But as for the ship part, man, Ruggie has to love him in some sort of way, because how could anyone let themselves be nearly murdered by someone and still want to be by their side afterwards if there wasn’t love there? Leona seems to be the only person Ruggie truly trusts, and honestly I think that goes both ways. The two of them clearly have the type of bond other people probably can't understand, the type that allows them to stay together normally even after a murder attempt. I have a lot of feelings about them - I just love seeing them together. They've both suffered and been lonely their whole lives in their own ways, but finding each other has changed things. I adore them.

My non-romantic OTP for this character

This is weird but probably Cheka? I just love any chance to see their interactions. He loves his uncle so much, and despite the fact that Leona clearly has plenty of unresolved issues surrounding his brother that he needs to work through and that he projects onto his nephew, he's also not necessarily cruel to him. I think Leona is probably very special to a child like him because he's being raised with all of the weight of the world on his shoulders as the next in line for the throne, and is going through what I'm sure is a very rigorous education for it. I can't imagine he gets much time to be a normal child, and I can't imagine there's anyone in his day-to-day life that treats him like one, which is why Leona is such a significant figure for him. Leona just treats him like his pesky nephew, which for a developing brain desperately seeking a bit of normalcy, is a big deal. I also think that regardless of whether or not he realizes it himself, Leona also benefits in a big way from having the unconditional love of a family member in the way that Cheka gives it to him.

My unpopular opinion about this character

See above, where I discussed that he's not just lazy or mean like some enjoy writing him off as.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.

I want to see more of his relationship with his family, specifically his brother. I'd love for the two of them to reach a breaking point in Leona's resentment towards him and finally have an actual discussion. Maybe he doesn't even realize that Leona is feeling the way he is. Idk.

I'd also like to have a bit more information on how Leona and Ruggie fully made up after his OB, or if they even really talked about it beyond what we got. They're both the type to bottle up their feelings and pretend something didn't happen, so who knows - but Leona almost killed him. That seems like a pretty big deal, and something you need to discuss in order to move past.

favorite thing about them: Luna is my top favorite yugioh girl as of right now i love her so much!!!!!! I love her bond with Leo and I love just like...her character concept?? Girl falling into the Monster World via her brain when she was itty bitty and then a giant dragon told her it was her job to save and protect everyone. Luna had Undertale happen to her when she was like 4 and we just have to live with that and she just has to live with that too.

least favorite thing about them: unfortunately, she is a girl in a yugioh series. DOUBLE UNFORTUNATELY she is suffering from Girl In the Back Half of 5D's Disease. like i will go to bat for a lot in s2 of 5ds but MAN. THE GIRLS PROBLEM. luna's concept (the fucking fact she can talk to duel spirits!!!) is so cool and the show does barely anything with it except for that agonizing Monkey Miniarc during the dark signers. sad!!! 7. What’s the first thing that changes when they realize they have feelings for the other?

Not much on a surface level! I see DT as someone who's already PRETTY touchy, and gets handsy constantly with Kaiser. The big difference is how far, their boundaries would go with one another as partners (no longer limiting to only hugs or holding hands. Now kisses and other more intimate touches, would be allowed). I feel like Kaiser would take awhile to warm up to becoming affectionate (at least, reciprocate it or initiate it), with DT.

It doesn't come from a mean-spirited place, but he's just a far more contained guy when compared to DT.

8. Nicknames? & if so, how did they originate?

I have this silly idea where Deathtoll is far too used to playfully flirt with others, BUT it doesn't mean he's used to being in the receiving end of flirting. DT would call Kaiser by a wide variety of nicknames, even before they get together. They range from prince, 'pookie', hot shot to even something silly like 'Sir-loves-a-lot'.

Whereas Kaiser would start playing around with those around DT, a few months or an year into their relationship. And when he does dish out a pet name for DT, his lover is left completely stumped, and unsure how to react. Kaiser IS a lot more reserved and self-contained than DT, in pretty much everything. BUT it doesn't mean some of that energy, won't eventually rub on him. And it manifests in his few choices of nicknames, the most notable one being 'kitten'.

16. Who wants to stay in bed just a little longer?

That would probably be DT. As a cancer saint whose main duty is tied to assisting souls to move on, he is definetely bound to be a night owl. He likely would have a swapped schedule, when compared to most of his comrades. So, he for sure couldn't possibly be an early bird.

Kaiser would certainly have to wake up early, in order to start the day. Which means, he has most certainly left DT in their bed with their big lions napping with him.

Hello! This request is for Sarabi otherwise known as Simba's mother and Mufasa's mate. As Queen of the Pridelands she ruled at Mufasa's side so when I think of her in the real world she's in a position that is equal to or even above Samuel's. I can see her being a Senator or a Public Defender. Somewhere she has a lot of power which allows her to protect people and serve her community.

Now, for the angsty bit. Obviously, the elephant in the room is that Mufasa isn't dead. It's entirely by chance that he survived the stampede and the fall from the cliff side and Samuel is well aware of that. He knows that he was meant to die in the canyon and while his death put his family through a lot of pain and Scar caused a lot of hardships and turmoil, Samuel does 100% believe his decision and will stand by it. Even if it means that should he ever meet his family again they all hate him for it. While I would like for him to find Sarabi and for them to be together, I also understand that it's entirely likely she will never forgive him for essentially abandoning their family.

That being said, Sarabi was not shown in LK2 and the timeline of the cut-off is sometime during the events of that movie so it's likely that in canon Sarabi has passed herself or you could write that she was just in the background. Maybe she left the pride for one reason or another and crossed over and she's been in the RW for a few years. All of that is really up to you. Samuel has remained faithful to his Queen even after all these years and he's never been with anyone or shown any interest in being with someone else. He'd likely remain loyal even if Sarabi wanted nothing to do with him ever again.

Face-wise I'm going to leave it wide open. I do have some ideas for how they could meet again, and why Samuel might not have noticed her sooner ( he has somewhat of a sixth sense when it comes to AW citizens thanks to the spirits nudging him about it ) if she's been in Ontario for a while. JUST. GIVE MY MAN HIS WIFE BACK OKAY?

hello, I am back on my bullshit. to which you could possibly argue: but sam? haven't you always been on your bullshit? yes. ANYWAY. this is a request for a final for my lovely little ball of anxiety, Freud. Now, in my head, I've got only the vaguest idea of what I'm looking for. What I'm certain of is that this character must be male-identifying as Freud is very, very gay. What I'm less certain of is that this character must be a goofball. Now. I've suggested Bill Haderpartly because he and James happen to be the actors that play one of my biggest OTPs. And a lot of the dynamic between their characters in IT Chapter 2 is kind of what inspired me to make this want-ad. Howerver, I'm not looking for someone to play a knockoff of Richie Tozier. I'm actually leaning more toward Bill Hader's actual personality. He's goofy, he giggles, he likes telling funny stories and making people laugh.

How I feel about this character: He’s really fun; he was basically the exact opposite of how I expected him to be based on what we first saw, and I love him to bits for that XD

My non-romantic OTP for this character: I like the idea of him hanging out with the viking clans and befriending them now that he’s done with the whole “eternal battle” thing. He helps them play pranks on each other XD

My unpopular opinion about this character: He’s a way more fun and interesting “weird forest dude” character than Woodman, and I like him more.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: I do kinda wish we’d seen more of him; he’s fun :))

How I feel about this character: I like her too much!! I relate to her in some ways and I always love a good mad scientist character.

All the people I ship romantically with this character: In canon? Nobody. But I do have AUs where she’s with Ford Pines, Amelia Hughes, or both because poly relationships are sweet.

My non-romantic OTP for this character: I want her and Hilda to be friends ;-;. I feel like she would actually make a pretty good chaotic aunt figure if she wasn’t nearly destroying the city. Also thanks to @starlit-lion I love her and her fake nisse.

My unpopular opinion about this character: I genuinely don’t think she’s that bad of a person. Like - I do think she went too far, but I don’t think her weather plans crossed a line until she kidnapped the weather spirit. The nowhere portal was genuinely an attempt to do good IMO, even if she went about it the wrong way (and ultimately crossed the line again by tying up Frida and refusing to shut down the machine).

ohohoho! i’m actually gonna pick more than one, so here’s doc/lion, doc/monty, twitch/cav, blitz/rook, and blitz/monty! 

Doc/Lion- 

26 (How good would your OTP be at parenting?) - i think they’d be pretty good at it, seeing as olivier actually has a son, and gustave gives off Dad Energy 

34 (Who makes fun of the other for having a crush on them, and who has to remind them that they are in a relationship?) - olivier definitely makes fun of gustave for little things like handholding or wanting to cuddle, saying stuff like “oooh you like me” and gustave just stares at him and is like. we are married. 

39 (Who sleeps in the other’s lap?) - GUSTAVE!!!!!!!!! he is a cuddly man and is Certified To Be Huggable. he’s shaped like a friend. love is stored in the combat medic. olivier will get an email from him thats just like: come to the medbay i need your help with something. and so he goes and gustave just motions for him to come in, gets out of his chair, grabs olivier’s wrist and tugs him closer, pushes him into the office chair, and climbs up onto his lap, his back to olivier’s chest, and grabs olivier’s arms and wraps them around his torso, and goes back to work for a few minutes, but he ends up falling asleep once olivier starts rubbing his tummy or sumn. whatever it’s very cute 

47 (Who proposes?) - i’ll probably use this setup for a lot of different ships, but there’s a post that talks about how a girl proposed to her girlfriend 3 times, 2 without a ring (1 because she panicked, another because she thought her gf was gonna propose and wanted to beat her to it) and lemme just say that olivier proposed to gustave at least 10 times, from handing him a ring pop while drunk and carrying him home to plan the wedding, to talking with lera about their upcoming date and she mentions how it’d be the perfect opportunity for someone to propose and so olivier panics and rushes to the medbay and is just like “gustave i love you so much you’re the man i want to spend the rest of my life with will you marry me” and gustave, who has had a stressful day, walks over to him, wraps his arms around him and presses his face into his chest, and starts crying. worry not though, when olivier finally actually proposes it’s remarkably well planned out, very romantic (perhaps in a park or on a beach or some other picturesque location, since i hc doc to be something of a nature lover so maybe olivier takes him for a picnic out in a meadow or something. it’s very aesthetic. gustave cries. and says yes. 

81 (Who said “I love you” first? and who ends their arguments in a fight with “Because I love you”?) - olivier woke up in a hospital bed with gustave sitting next to him, holding his hand, and olivier looks over at him and says “je t’aime beaucoup” before passing out again. gustave will only end an argument with “because i love you” if they’re arguing about something stupid like olivier wanting to eat nothing but croissants for a week and gustave has to be like “no you cant do that because i want you to stay alive and healthy because i love you” since i read the prompt and thought “hm. manipulative.” this almost always results in olivier either calling him a “trick ass bitch” or leaving a voicemail on his office phone that’s just this 

Doc/Monty- 

26 (How good would your OTP be at parenting?) - they’re both great at being the dad friends to other operators, but i feel like they’d think they were too old to have kids of their own, as much as they would adore it. they’re everyone’s first choice for babysitters though, and if any other operators have kids, they're referred to as uncle gustave and uncle gilles or something cute 

34 (Who makes fun of the other for having a crush on them, and who has to remind them that they are in a relationship?) - i think neither, but gustave would probably see gilles holding flowers obviously meant for him and be like “you are a lovesick fool” and gilles is like “sir we have been married since it was legal???” 

39 (Who sleeps in the other’s lap?) - GUSTAVE!!!!!!!! again, he’s a cuddly man and gilles is an absolute Unit, so they’re both more than happy to curl up around each other and sleep in eachother’s arms 

47 (Who proposes?) - gilles. it is, quite literally, the perfect proposal. (gustave is blissfully unaware of the fact that it’s almost happened many times before, mainly whenever gilles enters their bedroom after returning from a mission to see gustave wearing one of gilles’ hoodies, curled up in a pile of pillows in bed, and has to restrain himself from waking him up to ask if he’ll marry him. 

81 (Who said “I love you” first? and who ends their arguments in a fight with “Because I love you”?) - gustave was being carried out of his office by gilles after deciding that fine, he can finish the paperwork tomorrow, and he sleepily mumbled “je t’aime, gilles” before going limp in gilles’ arms, almost giving him a heart attack. luckily, gustave was still breathing. gilles definitely uses it as a last-ditch attempt to get gustave to go to bed, like “PLEASE come to bed, gustave” “why should i? you know i’ll come to bed once i’m done with these files” “because i love you, you hypocritical fool!” then manhandles him to bed 

Twitch/Cav- 

26 (How good would your OTP be at parenting?) - NO! they are either mischievous older sisters, cool cousins you see once a year, or wine/vodka aunts. no matter what, they will bastardize your children. taina taught maxim’s niece how to make a molotov “just in case the bourgeoisie tries anything” while emmanuelle is off to the side like “USE A DRONE TO BE ABLE TO LAUNCH IT FARTHER FOR MAXIMUM DAMAGE” 

34 (Who makes fun of the other for having a crush on them, and who has to remind them that they are in a relationship?) - taina will be like “why are you staring at me? do i have something on my clothes?” and emmanuelle is like “no you’re perfect it’s just that i love you and want to see you” -OR- 

emmanuelle: haha you like spending time with me 

taina, in emmanuelle’s lap while they watch animal planet: no. 

39 (Who sleeps in the other’s lap?) - it depends! usually it’s emmanuelle, but sometimes taina will enter a room and say “you look cold. i suppose i could help” and just. wraps herself around emmanuelle and falls asleep. everyone else is too scared to say anything, especially after emmanuelle almost stabbed james in the neck when he tried to draw on taina’s face 

47 (Who proposes?) - emmanuelle: she panics and throws the box at taina and runs, while julien sprints after her yelling “TELL HER YOU LOVE HER AND WANT TO MARRY HER WE ALL KNOW SHE’LL SAY YES” 

taina: they are in a diner after a mission. halfway through their meal, taina gets up and takes a knee in front of emmanuelle, taking the box out of a secret pocket in her pants. julien has to tell emmanuelle, who is nearly asleep in her pancakes, to look a bit to the left. she does, and taina’s like “i love you. we’ve already sworn that we’ll be together forever, but i think the tax benefits are too good to ignore. take your time with your response. thanks” and power-walks away. vicente meets her outside and just starts laughing while she punches him while saying stuff like “i talked about TAX BENEFITS! TAX BENEFITS?????” 

81 (Who said “I love you” first? and who ends their arguments in a fight with “Because I love you”?) - emmanuelle for both. it’s not that taina doesn’t love her, it’s just that she shows her affection through physical gestures. however, whenever taina actually says “i love you” emmanuelle just melts

Blitz/Rook- 

26 (How good would your OTP be at parenting?) - TERRIBLE IN THE BEST WAY POSSIBLE. they are both Children themselves, so putting an actual child in their care is stupid. the one time they were entrusted with caring for a child, it involved face paint, an easy bake oven, a staggering amount of chocolate, and the child’s parents finding the three of them passed out on the couch while minecraft let’s plays played on the rec room tv

34 (Who makes fun of the other for having a crush on them, and who has to remind them that they are in a relationship?) - julien will find little love notes around elias’ room and tease him about them, and elias is just like “aren’t you the one who came up with a ridiculously elaborate plan for us to go on a date without it actually being a date instead of just asking me out??” 

39 (Who sleeps in the other’s lap?) - both. depends on who is more sleepy at any given time. it’s usually julien tho

47 (Who proposes?) - elias: very romantic, heartfelt, they’re both crying while dominic and olivier threaten anyone who even glance at them sideways 

julien: it’s a ring pop (but a limited edition one he’s been saving for a special occasion), they’re at a rainbow holiday party, and dominic is playing wonderwall

81 (Who said “I love you” first? and who ends their arguments in a fight with “Because I love you”?) - elias, before they were even together. they were at another holiday party and he was feeling sentimental, so seamus convinced him to go talk to julien and the first thing he says once he’s stumbled over to the couch is “you. you are an angel. i love you.” except he said it in german so now julien thinks he’s done something wrong, which leads to a 6 month period during which they’re both pining fools who think they’ve done something to upset the other, while seamus is in a perpetual state of looking into the camera like he’s on the office. neither. they are both enablers for the other’s stupid ideas (example: julien trying to give himself the ability to breathe fire by swallowing many on-fire marshmallows, and elias trying to shield-surf down a mountain in the french alps breath of the wild-style  

Blitz/Monty- 

26 (How good would your OTP be at parenting?) - gilles? the perfect father. elias? he’s a little confused, but he’s got the spirit. he has no FUCKING clue what children enjoy or what’s appropriate for a specific age group, so he usually enlists the help of several other operators (none of whom are any good with kids) and together they attempt to care for a child. think lunchables, mcdonald’s, and ice cream as every meal and staying up until ungodly hours. gilles is off to the side, watching amusedly and making sure nobody is ever in any serious danger. elias may be clueless, but he’s not completely incompetent, and the kid has a great time, always pestering their parents about when they can visit uncle elias again 

34 (Who makes fun of the other for having a crush on them, and who has to remind them that they are in a relationship?) - neither, really. they’re both pretty lovey (is that the right word? idk they just really enjoy being together and find any quirks or evidence of crushes extremely endearing) 

39 (Who sleeps in the other’s lap?) - ELIAS!!!! gilles would CRUSH this poor little man!!!! of course, this doesn’t stop elias from summoning super-strength to carry gilles to bed and hold him on his chest the way gilles does for him whenever gilles returns from a particularly long or grueling mission 

47 (Who proposes?) - elias: he gets nervous and starts to tear up multiple times throughout the proposal, before he even gets on his knee, prompting gilles to worry that he’s sick, or being sent back home, or that he’s going to break up with him. luckily, elias manages to pull himself together and finally pop the question, and the way gilles immediately tackles him, muttering things in french while peppering his face with kisses is answer enough 

gilles: it is the Perfect Proposal, and elias leaps into his arms while frantically saying yes and kissing him all over. dominic yells at them to get a room, but with a sincerity that lets elias know he’s truly happy for them 

81 (Who said “I love you” first? and who ends their arguments in a fight with “Because I love you”?) - gilles. they were cuddling on a lazy sunday and during a lull in their conversation, he quietly whispers it into elias’ ear. coincidentally, that is also the day gilles learns elias’ ears are especially sensitive, and having someone whisper into them is one of elias’ biggest turn-ons. honestly? neither. but gilles would probably use it when elias announces he’s going on a shield-surfing trip with julien and has to be “tricked” into staying non-alpine land

Chapter 17

Come Here!

Mira sat Nashi in one of the guild's booths before grabbing a tray stacked with booze-filled mugs. She carried it with such skill and grace, making it look easy to balance all of the cups without spilling an ounce of liquid. She had offered to watch Nashi at the guild so that Lucy and Natsu could both go on a job with the rest of their team.

Watching Nashi was easy for her. Not only did her cooking manage to sedate her when she was crying her lungs out, her magic also managed to amaze her. Cana had told her that Nashi wasn't quiet in awe, and that she was quiet out of fear thanks to her Satan Soul causing a shiver to run down anyone unlucky enough to be close by. The girl dismissed her. Her magic wasn't scary. It was impressive!

After handing everyone their orders, Mira made her way back to Nashi, who was munching happily on chicken- Mira had removed the bone to make sure the child wouldn't choke. Mira would never forget the day Nashi was old enough to consume normal food. Natsu and Lucy had busted inside the guild, ordering one of everything. Tears were streaming down their faces, glad to finally be able to eat anything other than mashed potatoes.

Nashi was growing up right before everyone's eyes. They were scared that if they blinked, Nashi would turn into a full-sized adult. Instead of needing to be put in a highchair, she could sit in normal seats. She didn't need her head to be supported anymore because she could do it herself, she knew how to stand, and she could finally eat solid food thanks to the tiny, sharp teeth that she now had. She had even hinted at taking her first step. It hadn't happened yet, but it was sure to happen soon.

Nashi was a pink-headed ball of curiosity, constantly crawling around and exploring her surroundings. At the guild, she and the twins were always traveling together. They would wait for her to catch up while she faithfully crawled after them.

Mira glanced at Nashi in the corner of her eye to make sure she wasn't venturing off to places she shouldn't be. Last time, she nearly crawled right out the door.

"It's so crazy to think that Natsu and Lucy have a kid now," Cana said, grabbing the girl's attention.

"You think so?" Mira asked, a pleasant smile forming over her face. "I knew they would get together from the start."

"Well yeah, we all did. Hell, remember the betting pool we had for them? I just meant that it's weird how much time has passed. We were all just kids before, and now some of us are raising our own!"

"What about you? When are you going to settle down and start a family?"

Cana gave a face-splitting grin and lifted her booze. "Never! That just ain't me, you know that. I don't wanna settle down or nothing. I'd rather be the cool aunt that slips these kids some booze behind their parents' back when they wanna party or something. What about you? You don't strike me as the typa girl who doesn't want kids."

Mira shrugged. "I wouldn't mind if it happened, but I'm not actively planning for it either. I think after raising Lisanna and Elfman, I did my fair share. Besides, babysitting my OTP's kid is enough for me! Nashi is proof that I finally managed to get them together!"

Speaking of Nashi, Mira glanced towards the child again. She was sitting with the Jutla and Yajee, all the while babbling words that nobody could understand. It would take a while longer before she would be able to say her first real word.

As Yajee left the table, Jutla followed closely behind. The two always shadowed each other and were never found without their counterpart. Nashi's mouth parted before she carefully climbed off the booth. Wobbling unsteadily, the child got down on all fours and crawled after them.

However, the twins were moving too fast for her to catch up. Releasing a frustrated noise, Nashi stood back up on her feet. She swayed as if she was going to fall over, but she managed to keep balanced.

Mira's eyes went wide at the scene.

"I think Nashi's about to take her first step!" she exclaimed. At this, the entire guild stopped what they were doing and whirled their heads to find the child shakily lift her right foot.

"Oh no! Lu-chan and Natsu aren't here! They're going to miss it!" Levy said with a frown.

"Do we stop her then?" Cana questioned.

But it was too late. Right in front of their eyes, Nashi swung her foot forward and took her very first step. The guild roared with cheers, nearly scaring her enough to make her fall back on her bum. After the first step, she went for another.

"Oh my gosh, she's doing it!" Levy said. "Good job, Nashi!"

"Come here, Nashi!" Mira exclaimed, holding her arms out in front of her. Nashi glanced towards her, lifting her foot to take another step when someone else shouted.

"No, come here!" Cana said.

Rerouting directions, Nashi took a step towards the brunette.

"No fair! I want her to walk to me!" Macao protested. "Come here, Nashi! Come on!"

And with that, war had begun.

"She's gonna come to me!" Cana shouted. "Just watch!"

Levy furrowed her brows and shot back, "No, she's going to come to me!"

"You know what this calls for?"

"Betting pool!" everyone shouted in unison. They threw together a large sum of money before they resumed beckoning towards Nashi.

"I bet she'll choose me," Cana said, a wide grin on her face.

"No, she will come to Juvia!" the blue-headed girl replied. "Nashi spends much more time with Juvia!"

"Well she spends even more time with me!" Levy argued.

Mira flashed them all a smile. "There's no point in trying. She'll come to me."

"What makes you say that?"

"Because she's got Natsu's genes in her, and if there's one thing Natsu loves almost as much as he loves his family, it's food. I am the one who feeds Nashi."

Everyone else shared a worried glance. She had a point. Nashi may not have even been a year old, but her appetite rivaled those of Fiore's championship eaters who competed in shoveling large amounts of food down their gullets. It didn't help that Mira's food was to die for.

"Come to your Aunt Mira," the woman calmly said. She knew there was no way she could lose. Sure, Levy may have spent more time with her, but food was the way to the child's heart.

Sure enough, Nashi tilted her head to the side before taking a wobbly step towards her.

"No fair!" Cana shouted. "You're the babysitter! You can't be part of the bet!"

"Says who?" Mira replied. She crouched down to Nashi's level, wiggling her fingers in an attempt to make the child go faster and end their bet already.

Everyone groaned, watching as Nashi took step after step towards the take-over mage. Curse her and her insane cooking abilities.

Just as Nashi was right within reach, the grand doors to the guild swung open, revealing Team Natsu.

Natsu roared his typical greeting as they all entered. Immediately, their eyes landed on the large pile of money that sat on one of the tables. They then looked at all of the adults in the guild crouched down with their arms held in front of them. Then, their gazes traveled to where Nashi stood with one leg dangling in the air as if she was going to take a step.

Lucy pushed Natsu out of her way as she took a step closer towards Nashi.

"Wait! Is Nashi walking!?" she shouted. "Tell me we didn't miss her first step!"

"Sorry, Lu-chan," Levy replied, followed by an awkward chuckle. "If it makes you feel better, Nashi is really good at walking!"

Natsu and Lucy fell to the ground, their faces pale.

"I can't believe we missed it!" Natsu cried, tears flowing down his cheeks.

"We'll never get to see that moment!" Lucy joined in. Before she could really start the waterworks, her eyes darted to the pile of money again. Then it hit her. "Wait a second, are you all betting on something?"

The guild froze, sweat dripping down their foreheads.

"N-No! Of course not!" Macao answered.

"He's lying," Natsu said. "His heartbeat is going crazy. What's the bet this time? Who're you guys tryin' to get together?"

"That's not it," Lucy replied, her brows furrowing. "They're betting on who Nashi is going to walk to!"

"Oh, I want in on this," Gray said, tossing some jewels to the pile. Holding his hands out in front of him, he created a Happy-shaped ice cube. "Come to your Uncle Gray, Nashi! Remember how I always babysit you? Time to return the favor!"

Erza cleared her throat before casually placing some of her own money in the pile. She hadn't spent as much time with Nashi as Gray had, but she'd be damned if she lost a competition of any kind.

"Nashi," she called out, her voice stern. "Come."

Before Lucy could protest, a light appeared out of nowhere as Loke stepped through his gate on his own accord.

"Hey, Lucy. Don't mind me, just joining this bet really quick," he said. At her bewildered look, he held his hands up in surrender. "Can you blame me? It's easy money! Nashi loves me. Besides, I'm the lion spirit with cat ears, kids can't resist!"

"Will you guys quit betting on our family!?" Lucy demanded, planting her hands on her hips.

"Yeah!" Natsu chimed in. "Besides, we're the ones who're gonna win this bet!"

"Huh?" Lucy watched as Natsu threw all of their earnings from the job they just returned from into the pile. "Natsu! That's all of our money!"

"Exactly!" the pink-headed boy replied, a toothy grin stretching over his face. "Don't worry, Luce! We're gonna win this for sure!"

"What makes you so sure?"

"We're Nashi's parents! 'Course she'll come to us!"

Lucy blanched as Natsu crouched down and started calling for their daughter. There went their money for the week. Well, there was no going back now, and she was not about to let everyone else win a bet based off of her family anymore.

"Come to Mama!" Lucy said, waving frantically. The child glanced at her before taking a step towards her. "That's it, Nashi! You can do it!"

As everyone beckoned for the child to come their way and used magic or food in an attempt to lure her, Nashi only took straight steps towards her parents. Natsu and Lucy watched in awe as she walked. She was really walking!

"I can't believe she's walking already," Lucy said, tears pricking her eyes. It felt like only yesterday when she was sporting a baby bump.

"Yeah, I know," Natsu replied. His heart was full of warmth as he took in the happy smile on his daughter's face. "She's growin' up so damn fast. She needs to stop!"

"I agree! But at the same time, I'm so proud of her!"

"I know! Look at her go!"

Finally, the bet ended as Nashi took the last step towards her parents. They wrapped her up in a tight hug, both of them praising her.

"Good job, Nashi!" Natsu exclaimed, planting a kiss on the girl's forehead. "You did it!"

"We're so proud of you," Lucy added. She knew that Nashi couldn't understand a word they were saying, but she refused to go without praising her daughter.

Natsu gave his wife a wide grin. "Told ya she'd come to us! She'll always come to us because she's our little girl!"

"Until she's old enough to get a boyfriend," Happy said, flying over them.

"Or a girlfriend," Lucy added with a shrug.

Natsu furrowed his brows at the two and clutched Nashi close to his chest. "She's not allowed to have either!"

Mira and Cana watched as the family began to bicker and tease Natsu.

"You know," Cana began, leaning against the bar and taking a swig of alcohol before continuing, "I don't think I mind losing the bet this time."

"Me neither," Mira replied with a smile. "What a happy family."

sf9 comeback. OUR BOYS S E R V E D. this was stellar, the concept superior. the visuals, the vocals, the choreography. like yes yes and yes. the whole album was incredible. my fave tracks ‘like the hands held tight’ and “shh”.

‘lion’ by (g)-idle. im not into girl groups, so I've actually never looked into this group but dang lion is a bop and i love this track, and it makes me feel like boss.

‘any song’ by zico. this challenge is precious and has been stuck on repeat. 

dramas and movies. *spoiler alert*

parasite. i saw this a while ago and dang am i excited to say i was ahead of the hype. i must be honest i was intrigued because (1) a foreign language film was going to be at my local cinema (LIKE WOAH) and (2) CHOI WOO SHIK. so i just had to get my friends to go see it. i went in blind. i had no idea what the premise was what was gonna go down. NO IDEA. and it was unexpected intriguing and beautifully filmed. i left the film wondering and pondering the concept. you best believe i watched all the videos about the nuggets that i definitely missed in the first viewing. it is a film that makes you question and engage in discussion with those around you. i enjoyed it.

seriously incredible looking at the oscars and seeing that they won BEST PICTURE. a foreign language never winning in that category is wild. honestly never watch these shows because its always the same people and white washed. but dang i hope this opens peoples eyes to see that whole new worlds are waiting to be discovered if only they would allow themselves to be open to seeing them. 

would recommend to everyone to jump into the discussion and enjoy the film because it really makes you think...

bring it on ghost. this was a good one. i saw that it was added to netflix and gave it a watch. i enjoyed all the characters and i am so glad that she wasn’t actually a ghost but a spirit that was able to wake back up and have a happy ending. i love the main leads character as he is trying to raise enough money to get rid of the “gift” that was bestowed upon him from the demon spirit. but this terrifying gift to see ghosts brings him to his now, love (cue awwwww). overall it was slightly terrifying but i appreciate the comedic relief that the two guys had from the university. i would give it a 7.5 out of 10. 

chocolate.  this one really got me. the flashbacks and character development. however, it had its slow moments that really made me pause and question will i even have a happy ending should i finish this. but seriously thankful i did. there were so many precious moments between the characters, and the friendship that were short but remained with the main characters from the hospice. it was interesting to see how each episode developed and showed us new friends that were only to be with us a short while but impacted the lives of our main leads dramatically. but because of you i could come this far. one of my fave quotes:

‘i came to get you. i wanted you to get more rest. but i missed you way too much.’ 

‘i wanted to rest with you too.’ 

‘as long as well hold on to hope nothing will break us down.’ 

i also greatly appreciate how it all became about food in the end. like seriously all the sadness and grief and they made it about the one love for food. i would rate this an 8 out of 10.

when the camilla blooms. dang i held out to watch this because everyone was talking about it and me and my know it all attitude was like it can't be that great. BUT DANG! the reason everyone was talking about it was because it is SOOO FREAKING GOOD. honestly, it reminds me so much of strong woman do bong soo. bc there are cute romantic scenes and great comedic elements and characters, but dang these scary dudes are scary...

first off, yong-sik this man is too precious and there were so many incidents that reiterated how precious/tenderhearted his character is. for example, when he was like “shouldn't we talk about last night, because i couldn't sleep a wink last night” when referring to them holding hands. him getting super jealous, and was like “dongbaek, you must hold my hand hurry!”. it was hilarious when we all thought he finally got up the courage to ask her over to his place, and her to accept for it to be a request to wash his hair because he can't with his burns. *dead*

i love pil-gu. and i love how everyone loves pil-gu because he is a great kid. he’s funny, i.e. saying to jong-ryeol (his biological dad) you’re not that great, then being semi bribed by the latest gam. his sass is ICONIC, ‘i don’t spin tops with my ears’, when referring to jong-ryeol telling him to stop playing to listen to him. i love that song-sik shows up to the baseball game and becomes “a man with a drone” to protect pil-gu. i hate how he was like i need to leave my mom for her to be happy and he bottled it up inside, this poor little nugget. he soon realizes and gives it all back bc he wants to stay with his mom. and nothing can bribe him away from the most precious thing to him. 

dong-baek is such a freaking strong character! she was bomb, the character development was insane. i feel like this quote from the end really captures it:

“aren’t you just sick and tired of being intimidated all the time? people keep acting up because i’m nice to them. i’m a person who’s capable of breaking someones with my fist. and i’m a fighter who’s able to protect my own kid…i decided to become the strongest mother in the world from now on.”

she went from being chill and letting people walk all over her to becoming a boss! i also love that yong-sik allowed her to be a boss and protected her to be able to breathe easy. 

“consider your life as a never ending festival. and i’ll make sure you can live as immaturely as possible.” -yong sik 

because she had to grow up so fast. like he is seriously the best. waking her up and allowing her to believe in herself again. and their moment of her finally saying “i love you.” and him like, “i knew it.” 

jeong-suk, her mother. this was such a sad storyline. the woman who abandoned her at the orphanage, came back after she found out her time was limited. her mother was always looking out. being there during the accident saving her. saving insurance policy. watching after pil-gu at day are. she did her best to compensate for abandoning her. freaking lost it when both her mothers, (biological and deok-sun, yong-sik’s mother) freaking knew each other prior to the current time. from when dong-baek was a little nugget and when deok-sun was pregnant with yong-sik. like what a full circle!

the whole killer aspect really threw me because everything was going good and then you'd have those cuts to the present day with bodies being found, and i did not appreciate thinking it was our main lead for the longest time. me preparing my heart to break from episode one. and then she goes and does things like going into semi-abandoned building to meet with someone who’s says they have your scooter that your missing coworker left somewhere. like this chick is gonna die. thankfully she didn’t and we got the happy ending we all wanted!

i seriously appreciated that they included the scene with pil-gu as a major league baseball player, and our happy OTP watching him on tv like thank you drama writers. i would seriously rate this a 10 out of 10.

Alchemy 101: Marking Your Characters as Heart, Mind, Body

People who have been following me for a while are familiar with this emblem, from Atalanta fugiens, showing the creation of the Philosopher’s Stone.

I’ve explained the significance of the man and woman, small and large circles, square and triangle at some length.  For a story, we need to focus on the triangle.  In spiritual alchemy, the triangle represents soul, spirit, and body.  Heinrich Khunrath helpfully labeled the sides of the triangle in this emblem.  In red capital letters you have Anima (soul), Spiritus (spirit), and Corpus (body).

The only fantasy novel I’m aware of where the authors marks his or her characters as Soul/Spirit/Body is Elizabeth Goudge’s The Little White Horse. 

Most commonly, authors mark their male protagonist, the Male Principle of the Work, as heart and their female protagonist, the Female Principle of the Work, as mind.  If they have a companion, he or it will be marked as Body.  If you look back at the Mundus Elementaris that I just posted you’ll see that Sun corresponds to Cor (heart) and Moon to Cerebrum (brain).  

[Someone left a couple of comments recently saying that I had made up all these alchemy rules--to fit my OTPs, apparently.  So I’m posting some emblems again to show how alchemical ideas were developed over centuries, and not created by me lololol.]

The characteristics of a “heart” character are pretty much what you’d expect: courage, self-sacrifice, occasional rashness and impulsivity.  Harry Potter is the perfect embodiment of a “heart” character.  Rowling goes beyond giving him the appropriate personality traits; she has other characters comment about Harry’s “good heart”, or she describes his heart responding in various situations.  Just check the books sometime and see how often “Harry” and “heart” appear close together.  

The characteristics of a “mind” character are if anything even more obvious.  “Mind” characters are knowledgeable, book-smart, and sometimes overly cautious.  Hermione captures the defining features of herself and Harry, the “mind” and the “heart,” in her speech at the end of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone: she is “books and cleverness,” while Harry is “friendship and bravery.”   

An author can of course use BOTH a name and personality traits to mark characters.  In The Alchemyst, Michael Scott calls his female protagonist Sophie Newman. Sophia is the Greek word for “wisdom.”  In fact, several of the images from the famous alchemical manuscript Aurora consurgens depict Sophia/Wisdom.  (Scott’s Sophie is also very smart, very clever.)

What about the Body character?  There isn’t one in every alchemy story, but when this does appear, the markers are predictable.  Body characters are focused on their bodily needs--they are hungry, thirsty, and, in adult stories, lusty.  And they are often fearful. Think of Papageno in Mozart’s opera, the Magic Flute, who breaks his vow of temperance and starts eating and drinking on stage, lamenting his lack of female companionship.  Or Wiggins in The Little White Horse (he’s a beautiful, vain King Charles spaniel, always focused on his next meal).  Or Ron Weasley, who is constantly hungry. Or Sméagol/Gollum, who eats compulsively though his main lust is for the Ring.

In the Wizard of Oz, Frank Baum used the heart/mind/body triangle in a completely different way.  Rather than marking his protagonist, Dorothy, as heart, as you would expect, Baum assigns heart, mind, and body characteristics to her three companions.  The Tin Man is in search of a heart, the Scarecrow in search of a brain, and the Cowardly Lion in search of “some nerve,” in other words the courage that Body characters typically lack.

In A Song of Ice and Fire, Martin also follows a non-standard path.  His two protagonists, Jon and Daenerys, are not going through their transformational journey together.  They are not Frodo and Sam or Harry and Hermione, with the “mind” character complementing the “heart.”  No, Jon and Daenerys must both be heart; this fact is underlined when other characters refer to Jon or Daenerys having a “good heart.” Both are brave and self-sacrificing, though Dany’s self-sacrificing nature does not reveal itself until she flies north of the Wall to rescue Jon.  Neither Jon nor Dany is particularly clever or wise--perhaps wisdom will come.
