the energy of ashton’s “i’m just the dirty old drummer” moment has the same energy as ken’s sunglasses reflecting barbie’s greatness. ashton is SUCH a ken because he just wants to hype the local 5sos barbie aka luke hemmings.

List of “and no matter where I go, I’m always gonna want you back (I know, you know, I will never get over you)” prompts
Want You Back - 5SOS
“What if I tell you I never truly got over you?” “Well… That doesn’t change anything, does it?”
“So you’ll always love them?” “…I’m afraid so.”
“They’re just not someone you can get over. The thought of them lingers; their presence always felt.”
“I thought you moved on.” “Unfortunately for me, I’m still very much in love with them.”
“I… I wish they were still mine, but I fucked things up so bad, and now things will never go back to the way they were before.”
“They really were irreplaceable. I physically cannot stomach being with someone else. It has to be them, but it also can’t be them. Not anymore.”
“Do you actually love [insert character A’s name] or are you still thinking about [insert Character B’s name].” “…Next question, please.”
“You’re someone I can’t move on from.” “Maybe you just aren’t trying hard enough.” “No… No it’s not— You were it for me. And I somehow fucked it up.”
“Apparently, time doesn’t make you miss somebody less, even after you’ve broken up. It actually makes you miss them more.” “…Yeah, I don’t think that’s the usual experience.”
“I can’t help but wish I did things differently. Maybe I’d still have them in my life, you know?”

Adding onto the fact that Jeia and Niknate work because they balance each other out:
Nate and Nikki have different views and that was the one thing that just made it hard for me to see them as endgame for the longest time (that and it seemed like the writers were acting as if Nate was Nikki’s only option, but that’s for another rant). But with the release of part 3 and some thinking, I realized that them having those different views can be a good thing.
Nikki can teach Nate that in order to have a future or even a forever, they have to work for it. There needs to be a semblance of realism and thought, it’s not something that they can just hope for.
While Nate is someone who Nikki is able to embrace her real self and she can be herself with him. She doesn’t have to think about the expectations her parents put on her. And he supports her and believes in her when her parents don’t. He provides her that stability and comfort that will help her in the long run. Nikki wouldn’t ever have to worry about that going away, since Nate isn’t going anywhere.

(I just realized they sound like Formciotti here ughhh. But I’ll just say this is what the writers were trying to do with Jelso, but the writers didn’t do it as well.)
Jeia also balances each other out. Leia is the first girl Jay was ever serious about and he’s willing to do anything for her, while we see an even more selfless side of Leia with Jay. We see her grow and get out of her comfort zone with him (just like how Eric did with Donna), and do things she hasn’t done in the past because she was sheltered.
Not to mention this is both Jay and Leia’s first loving and healthy relationship. They may not be each other’s first crush or anything like that, but they are each other’s first loves and first real relationship.
Jay and Leia love and respect one another, and aren’t afraid to call each other out on their shit, and both characters grow.

Mason McCormick for the character thingy pls and thank you 🙏🙏🙏
Sweet, Mace! (Idk what my current design for him is but it looks like this rn lol)

How I feel about this character
I like him! He’s a lot like Darry, but I find him more relatable because of the sarcasm lol. He’s had to grow up too fast, and he needs to get outta Oklahoma poor guy. I wanna give him…not a hug, but a pat on the back maybe. And a parental figure who’s significantly better than his father. I like Mason. He’s like Darry if Darry got out. If Darry didn’t have Ponyboy, only Soda. If Darry didn’t have to stay so strong, I guess. Not that Mace isn’t strong, he’s hella strong. But idk, he did it. He got free and I’m sorta proud of him for that.
All the people I ship romantically with this character
No one really, but there’s no one his age he can really bounce off of in canon other than his buddy Robert Collins and I guess Lem. But he told Lem that he’d kill him if he ever saw him again, so…yeah, no, don’t think that’s gonna happen. If someone were to make a Mason x OC fic tho I’d probably read it even tho I don’t usually go for that kind of thing- idk I think I just wanna see Mason getting support and being happier lol
My non-romantic OTP for this character
Well, Tex, I guess. It feels like kind of an obvious answer, since their conflict is the story more or less, but idk. They’re brothers. They hate each other. They love each other. Mason needs independence, and Tex needs Mason. There’s no easy way out, and either way it’s gonna end sorta sadly. Not tragically like the Outsiders, but sadly. Bittersweetly.
“He’s my brother even if he ain’t your son.” ough. This line kills me in the best way.
My unpopular opinion about this character
He ain’t super well known so all the opinions I have are unpopular kinda lol. I think he’s shy, though. Not around Tex, obviously (who’s shy around their little siblings?), but at school. He’s popular, even though he’s apparently not as good-looking as some less popular guys, and he’s cold towards people or at least cool. I think he seems stuck up, when really he’s shy. (Like how Bryon saw Ponyboy in TWTTIN) He also seems kinda non-confrontational, maybe not outta shyness as much as…laziness? That’s not the right word exactly but I can’t think of a better one. But like how he didn’t warn Tex about having to sell Negrito, how he never once mentioned to Pop that he knew Tex wasn’t Pop’s son, how he wouldn’t tell Tex about why he was going to the hospital, and how he just lied about not wanting to go to the fair. (Ok that’s purely headcanon there. I think he wanted to go tho, or maybe he was lying to himself about not wanting to go.) I don’t think he likes delving into his thoughts about things if it takes too much effort, ig.
I also think he resents the fact that he’s from Bixby/Garyville (In the movie it’s Bixby, in the book it’s Garyville. Idk why.) and not Tulsa. There’s more opportunities in the city. I mean, Tex resents being seen as a country hick- I feel like Mason resents it just as much if not more. He likes being taken seriously.
Oh and idk if this counts as an unpopular opinion but I’m not that fond of the guy who played him in the movie. He did good, but he was not 18 istg. He was 31 and looked 31, which made it real hard to buy him as a stressed 18 year old. Not my Mason smh
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.
Idk, it woulda been nice to see him interact with his peers a bit more, like how we got to see Soda and Steve being friends in the bg of Outsiders…Then again, maybe he doesn’t have any friendships like that. I dunno if I do, so someone cold like Mason may not. He’s friends with Robert Collins tho, so that counts for something?

OTP Headcanons
Rook x Lucanis
·:*¨༺ ♱✮♱ ༻¨*:··:*¨༺ ♱✮♱ ༻¨*:·
I’m back with more headcanons <3 Again I tried to keep these in order but I tend to jot them down as they come to mind. Hope you guys enjoy them ^-^
·:*¨༺ ♱✮♱ ༻¨*:· ·:*¨༺ ♱✮♱ ༻¨*:·
- Damari is hardly a better flirt than Lucanis. What was she supposed to practice on? The undead? Her fellow Mourn Watchers that are like family to her? Needless to say she’s very inexperienced in this.
- She absolutely cannot keep a secret from Lucanis. That’s how he knows about Assan helping the halla or about her and Davrin trying gingerwort truffle tea. She definitely told him all about it.
- Of course it also depends on the type of secret. Everyone’s trying to plan a surprise birthday party for him and need her to keep him distracted while they set everything up? She will try her hardest not to give anything away.
- If someone is planning to prank him though, they definitely better keep her out of it cause she will talk the moment he asks.
- Lucanis had mixed feelings about Marrow at first. On the one hand she’s an undead cat. How do you pet that? Can you feed it? It’s just strange overall. And she talks? A cat shouldn’t talk but then she’s undead so why not right? On the other hand she’s been Rook’s lifelong companion. Rook adores her and will fight anything that might bring her harm.
- Lucanis and Marrow truly bonded when Rook was trapped in the prison of regret. (I have plans for this so this is all I’m gonna say about it for now :D)
- Spite wasn’t too fond of Marrow hanging out with Lucanis so much, but Lucanis warned him of what Rook might do if she comes back to find something happened to Marrow. He begrudgingly put up with her presence after that.
- Lucanis gets Marrow little cat accessories as gifts sometimes. Toys, catnip, maybe a new brush or a bow. The bow will definitely have symbols of the Mourn Watch or Crows.
- He usually lets Rook change her bow but he’s very gentle when he does it himself.
- Rook loves singing to Lucanis. Her favorite pastime is humming a gentle tune as he rests his head on her lap and she passes her fingers through his hair.
- She also loves experimenting with new tunes to see how Spite reacts to them. He gets his own dedicated section in her research.
- Because Lucanis worries for Rook’s safety, even though she’s perfectly capable of defending herself, she set up her own series of necromancer traps in the Dellamorte Estates.
- Vorgoth and Myrna definitely helped with setting up the traps.
- The traps are set to go off depending on a person’s malicious intent.
- Illario has accidentally set off the minor traps a few times much to both Rook and Lucanis’ amusement.
- Damari did not fully trust Illario for a long time and even went as far as to warn him that if he ever gave her a reason to think he’ll harm Lucanis again he’ll have her to deal with. (Think Katara threatening Zuko)
- Lucanis loves preparing meals for Rook. Sure they have their own staff who can do it but he still prefers to do it himself more often than not.
- Marrow likes to hang out with him while he’s in the kitchen much to Spite’s annoyance.
- Rook in turn is always ready to help Lucanis in any way she can. Whether that’s lending her necromancer expertise in spirits and demons, autopsies, cleaning up a corpse quickly if need be, potions to fake temporary illnesses, or even helping with managing the estates.
- It took her a while to get used to living in a large fancy place like the estates but being with Lucanis helped make the place feel like home.
- Lucanis isn’t too fond of the Grand Necropolis but he does admit that the place seems to have a calming effect on Spite. Plus it was where Damari grew up so he’s always happy to join her on her visits to the gardens.
- Damari learned to speak Antivan and is a natural at it. Now both her and Lucanis are calling each other “mi amor”
- Rook is definitely the goofy one of the pair but we all know Lucanis is plenty goofy himself.
- Taash was right. Rook would definitely love to go flying some time if possible. She eventually lets Lucanis know about this.
- Spite and Marrow are protective of Rook and Lucanis’ kids. One of the very few things they’d team up for.
- Lucanis and Rook don’t push their kids to join either the Mourn Watch or the Crows. They’re free to choose what they want for themselves.
- They’ll still teach them the basics though like acrobatics and how to use and maintain certain weapons and tools.
- They teach their kids combat for self defense but you know there’s no one in Thedas safer than those kids. Maker have mercy on the soul who tries to target them.

Fandom Asks
1. OTP?
For Daredevil, obvs it’s MattFoggy. I was already primed for Gay Lawyer Ships from my Ace Attorney days, but the subtext in the Netflix show was insane. Like, anyone who didn’t come away from it thinking “ok that was a little bit…” was simply not watching. XD And then you peek at the comics and see 60 years of these idiots basically being common law married.
9. Write a recommendation of someone else's fic you enjoyed!
Anyone who hasn’t read Extra Love For Christmas by @amazing-spiderling go read it now. The premise (Matt and Foggy working as Christmas movie extras to make some extra cash in college) is adorable, the boys’ banter is delightful, and the fake legally-distinct-from-Hallmark Christmas movies are both hilarious and on-point.
11. What's your favourite piece of fanart for [ship]? (MattFoggy)
There is so much good art for this ship, and so much gifted to me specifically that it’s literally impossible to choose a favorite. Gay Lawyer Fandom too talented. That said I’m deeply fond of these Princess Bride AU pieces which were gifted to me like 6 years ago — it looks like the artist’s blog is gone, but I still have my reblog of the post.
12. What's the funniest or craziest AU idea you've ever come up with?
I feel like it probably has to be the otter!Matt fic? I love a good zany AU, but I don’t think any of my others reach quite that level of silly.

Sunny Day Jack - Cat AU Reversal
Remember the AU where Jack is a cat that can transform into a human with or without cat ears and a tail? Well, a recent comment reminded me of the theory that cats might be able to sense ghosts(?) like Jack. This theory came about because cats can’t stand Jack, and he’s not a fan of them either for some mysterious reason. Somehow, I don’t think it’s because Jack is secretly a werewolf or has wolfish traits like he’s from the Omegaverse.
Another bit of lore to fuel this theory came from the (now sadly deleted) trailer where Shaun describes (presumably) Jack as a thing. Shaun has a fair number of cat-like traits, including whisker marks and purring. He’s very cat-coded, so it’s entirely possible that he won’t be able to stand Jack either.
Wouldn’t it be quite interesting then if there was a reversal of the cat AU? Here, MC is the one who’s secretly a cat that can transform into a human, and as such they can sense that there’s more to Jack than meets the eye.
@channydraws @earthgirlaesthetic @sai-of-the-7-stars @cheriihoney @illary-kore @okamiliqueur @kurokrisps
Content Warning: This post contains talk of sex, cheating, abusive family situations, chronic illness, bullying, death, mourning, body horror, yandere obsession, and kinky sexy times with cat-like features. I’ll try to keep things for the most part light and fun, but sometimes drama likes to creep into these headcanons.
Also, sometimes they spark me to write a snippet of a scene or two!
Really, I can see a lot of potential for a more tsundere experience with Jack. Since cats naturally don’t get along with him and vice-versa, there’d be even more friction between him and his sunshine right from the start. This will make winning MC over a heck of a lot more challenging for Jack, and as such put him at much greater risk if he can’t convince them to want him in spite of this natural repulsion. It can also be a great internal conflict for him, as he dislikes cats yet loves MC dearly.
This sort of scenario would be perfect to insert myself like an isekai given my feline avatar, but y’all know how much I love the guy. Maybe it’s because my avatar is a dragon in the shape of a feline that I’m immune to this feline repulsion. Perhaps dragons are the opposite and just instantly fall in love with Jack instead. Jack certainly loves his sunshine as a dragon.
But you know me, I’ve got to indulge with my OTP, and this sort of silly AU is perfect to do just that.
I know in the past I’ve said that my girl Alice is more bunny-coded, but imagining her as a fluffy white kitty with bright blue eyes is adorable. I can see the whole King family embodying the feline spirit, plus it’d be hilarious to imagine how Bo and Elias would have to deal with similar feline shenanigans from Barbie and Coraline respectively.
I wonder if Elias has similar issues with cats as a ghost. I’d be tragic if he actually liked them in life, only for them to be repelled in death. Naturally, it’s pretty obvious what Bo’s beef with cats is, as it’s hard coded into his virtual doggy DNA. This doggo is going to have to overcome his programming for the sake of love.
So, yeah, this post is less about general MCs in this situation and more about my OCs since the possibilities of messing with the guys with cats is hilarious to me. It’s going to be mostly a light-hearted romp with some spiciness here and there.
Of course, the lore of the game and Sunshine in Hell aren’t quite the same when it comes to cats. I’ve mentioned in the past how Jack and Moon Pie are going to bond, and Shaun and Jack are going to become friends despite their issues. Given my fondness for cats and Jack, I just can’t resist the image of kitties snuggling up to him.
But I like adding a bit of spice sometimes, and not just the NSFW kind. It’d be so interesting if Alice is instinctively repelled by Jack at the start, maybe even seeing him as an undead corpse, but she still chooses to save and be close to him. It’d be a very real beauty and the beast tale.
Then again, it’s probably more accurate to call it a beast and the beast tale considering Alice turns into an animal.
Anyway, things play out as they usually do, with Alice picking up the tape at the thrift store, finding it oddly compelling. In this universe, her favorite way to unwind after a hard day is to turn on the TV and slip into something more comfortable. And by comfortable I mean ridiculously flexible because dang, who wouldn’t want to be able to turn into a boneless little puddle of fur? Have you seen how relaxed cats can get? I can’t help but be a little jealous.
Of course, a good boneless sprawl across the sofa gets a little less relaxing when the tape starts talking back. Alice would turn from a limp noodle to a rigid arch with bristled fur in an instant after hearing a character on TV call her by name.
As I’ve mentioned previously, Alice willingly bonded herself to Jack in Sunshine in Hell to save him from, well, hell. The process just made her forget about it. I’m really fond of this headcanon because it goes well with themes of consent in the game and the fact that Jack is literally unable to do anything his sunshine doesn’t want him to do. He needs MC to want and need him in order to remain in this world.
It’d be quite a bit harder for Alice to agree to such a deal when her instincts are giving her clear warning signals that something is wrong with Sunny Day Jack. Looks aren’t everything, and appearances can be deceiving, but animal instincts tend to be a pretty good guide.
However… that wouldn’t be the only instinct demanding that Alice take action. Alice is the reincarnation of Mary, the person who loved this ghost(?) long before he became Jack. They’re soulmates, and her dying wish was to be reborn and loved by her precious starlight once again.
So it would be a war of two cats inside of Alice. One cat is hissing at the unholy abomination pawing at her soul. The other is mournfully crying out for him with a longing that she just can’t explain. Reminds me of that two wolves meme come to think of it.
It’d be quite the confusing moment, that’s for sure.
On the subject of Mary, it would be interesting if she was a cat shifter too. Joseph could’ve been one of those guys that pretend that they don’t like cats, but secretly just wants to cuddle with one. Sadly, the poor guy is so love starved that he comes on too strong, and cats always try to get away from him. It’s easier for him to just pretend he doesn’t like cats so their rejection doesn’t sting quite so much.
With Joseph being a normal, very much alive human, there would be no instinct warning Mary away from him. Well… not unless Joseph is just a natural cat-repellant like Sakaki from Azumanga Daioh. Still, even in that case, Mary would be his special exception. Even Sakaki eventually found her feline soulmate too after all~
You know, it would be interesting if Mary was the only one in the Phoenix family who could transform into a cat. It could even be her own little secret that only Joseph finds out about. She could even use her feline form to sneak off to visit him at his house. It’d be only fair considering all the times he comes to climb in through her window.
As a cat, Mary had the same pretty blue eyes, but a chocolate colored coat, which is pretty rare for cats.
That suddenly gives me the image of someone scooping up Mary in cat form, intending to make her into their pet. She can’t exactly change back in front of a stranger, and though she struggles with all her might, she can’t squirm out of their grip.
Suddenly young teenage Joseph barrels into the cat-napper from behind! This little punk was no stranger to picking fights, and the second he saw someone try to take Mary away, he had to act. It doesn’t matter if they’re an adult and much bigger than him, Joseph will still punch their lights out!
Sure, Joseph might get in trouble if the person reported him or if an authority figure saw him in the act, but why should he care? He won’t hesitate to take on the entire world if it means he doesn’t have to be separated from the one person in the whole world who actually cares about him.
I wonder if in this universe they could’ve run away together. Sure, Mary might’ve been forbidden from seeing him like in the regular continuity, but if she can sneak out as a cat, she can still see him. After being told that she won’t live to adulthood by her doctor, she refuses to waste time that could be spent with the people she cares about. In the normal timeline, her parents put bars on her windows then forced her to move away. She didn’t have the option to rebel. She didn’t even consider running away as an option. She could only accept this sad truth.
Joseph Cullman was a kid who thought about running away though. He’s someone so lonely, so desperate for love. He can’t just let go of the only person who loves him! It was hard enough going to separate schools and only being able to see each other when Mary could sneak out, but news about the move would be devastating.
Joseph can’t let that happen.
I can imagine the scene of Mary coming to Joseph to tell him one last goodbye…
…
Joseph jolted when he saw the way Mary’s eyes glistened wetly with tears. More tears fell when she shifted back to her human form. The puffiness around her eyes and the redness around them hinted at just how many more tears she had shed before seeing him. “Mary? What’s wrong?”
“J-Jo…,” Mary choked out, but that was all she could say before she threw herself into his arms. She buried her face into the crook of his neck just in time to muffle a sob.
Joseph held Mary tightly to him, his heart pounding so hard his chest hurt while a pit formed in his stomach. He remembered the last time she cried into his arms like this, after the doctor told her that she wouldn’t live to see adulthood.
“It… it’s okay…,” he eventually managed to squeak out. “What… whatever it is… it’ll be okay.” The words came out brittle, a lie too fragile to offer any form of strength to either of them.
It took some time for Mary to finally force out the awful truth.
“M-my family is m-moving away!”
Joseph froze, the words coming down on him with the force of a judge’s gavel delivering the death sentence. He barely kept up with the details Mary managed to add between shaky breaths and choked sobs. It was something about a job states away, but whatever was going on with those damn parents of hers didn’t matter. They could fuck off to a different country - a different planet for all he cared! They certainly never cared about what Mary wanted.
Those bastards weren’t satisfied with simply forbidding Joseph and Mary from being together. It wasn’t enough to put bars on her windows or threaten to call the police if he even stepped foot on their property. This move was so extreme, so permanent and final. It felt like a middle finger directed at both of them and their love.
Joseph couldn’t imagine a life without Mary. He refused to accept it.
No one would take his sunshine away.
But what could they do? Mary couldn’t hide at his house, it’d be the first place they’d look! There were so few places they could go. The teachers were relentless about catching delinquents, chasing them out of secret stomping grounds and poking their noses where they didn’t belong. The police would be even worse.
Nowhere in this town was safe. The only way they could be together was…
“We’ll run away.”
The thought slipped past his lips as a quiet whisper. It came out so easily, just as natural a solution as adding one plus one to make two. Hearing it aloud sparked something in Joseph, and in an instant he just knew it was the right decision.
“Wh-what?” Mary sniffled, as she looked up at him with wide, wet eyes.
“We’ll run away,” Joseph repeated, his voice strong and sure. His eyes blazed with a fire that couldn’t be extinguished, as he squeezed Mary just a little closer. “We’ll run away to someplace where no one knows us, so no one can tell us what to do, or pick on us, or keep us apart ever again.
Though stunned and aghast by the idea, Mary still listened. She was reluctant to leave her family behind, but Joseph knew that they didn’t deserve her. He had spent so much time seeing how badly they treated her. His family was no better. It was the same with their classmates, the teachers…
What few protests Mary could offer were feeble, easily shattered by Joseph’s resolve, which only grew more galvanized as he dug up all the awful things they had gone through over the years. So many times he wanted to scream to the world the unfairness of it all, and he laid that unfairness bare for both of them to see that this city had no love to offer either of them.
And that included the people who shared their blood.
Mary didn’t want to lose the only person who treated her like she was worthy of existing. She also didn’t want to lose her parents and older brother, the people she had known all of her life. She had to choose between her family or Joseph. She loved both so much. She wanted so badly to be loved by all of them. The thought of losing either of them tore her apart inside. No matter who she chose, her heart would be cleaved in two.
In the end, Mary chose to keep the half of her heart that actually made her feel loved.
…
I know I kind of skimmed over the way Joseph convinced Mary to run away with him, but they are two love-struck teens, immature and emotional. Mary wouldn’t necessarily have thought of running away on her own, but Joseph is passionate enough about keeping his sunshine that I’m sure he’ll win her over. They’re both in a very emotionally vulnerable state at the time after all.
The same general story beats are the same, leading the pair to LambsWork Productions, and an eventual tragedy. Being a cat shifter didn’t really change much there, save for one small detail.
Mary ran away one last time after the incident. It was the hardest thing she ever did. The hospital was certainly in a panic over their missing patient in critical condition. However, cats tend to instinctively want to go someplace secluded in their final hours. There was only one place she wanted to go, one cold and lonely place she heard about from the few visitors she got.
The SunnyTime Crew weren’t allowed to arrange a funeral for Joseph, but they made a memorial for him in secret. Mary was told about it. They promised to take her there when she got better, so she just had to keep fighting.
This was Mary’s final fight, one last struggle to reach the memorial on her own four paws. When she finally reached it, she curled up around the cross, between the still lit candles, and thought about her starlight as darkness crept in to steal her away for good.
Thaaaaaaat went a lot darker than I intended this post to go. My apologies. I just have so many big feelings about this poor tragic pair. Let’s switch back to a more hopeful future, shall we?
Alice might not remember being Mary, but some instincts still linger. She’s protective and loving… and she was broken by a cheating ex who moved on to new and exciting people without her. In that vulnerable state, Jack appeared, needing her help. Her feline instincts might scream at the wrongness of him, but they also tell her that he was someone she didn’t realize she was missing for so, so long.
Though wary, Alice does agree to help Jack. It’s more than a little surprising for him to see a white cat instead of a person when he starts crawling out of the TV. That surprise only compounds when she turns into a human to help pull him out.
Really, it makes Jack wonder even more if he really is still dreaming after all.
Alice waking up without remembering their initial meeting does set things back a bit. She’s repulsed by Jack even as she’s drawn to him. It makes her feel guilty, but her instincts haven’t let her down before. They were what told her that things about her relationship with Ian weren’t right, made her question things to the point that spent a chunk of her savings booking a ticket to see him, hoping that surprising him with an unexpected visit would put her fears to rest.
Alice arrived at the most perfect, most horrible time.
Cats have really good hearing, and Alice could hear what Ian and the affair partner were doing in his apartment even before she could knock on the door. She was in shock and didn’t know what to do, had nowhere to go in this city she had never visited before. She was only snapped out of her shock by the phone call Ian made when he tearfully confessed what he had done.
Ian was shocked that Alice already knew what he had done. He was even more shocked that she was there. He ran out, wearing only a blanket to cover his modesty. He stank of sex and the other woman. He was covered in lipstick and markings and fluids. It was a repugnant experience for Alice to get her senses assaulted even as Ian was crying and begging for her forgiveness. He didn’t know how it happened, but he promised that he never did this before.
Of course… the affair partner was there, listening. This person knew about Alice and was keen to rub it in the face of her “rival” that she was “better.” After all, a lot of the allure of seducing someone in a relationship is the feeling of superiority.
It was a cruel scene, one that just made Ian’s betrayal all the worse for choosing to destroy their relationship for someone so awful, someone who delighted in Alice’s misery.
Ian, who was overwhelmed by the enormity of what he had done and the shame eating him alive, could do little more than cry and apologize. He was too much of a mess to even refute his affair partner’s barbs, not after what he had done.
Ian never really was good at standing up to bullies, especially when he was in distress.
Alice never tried to make it work in this universe after that. Ian had destroyed her trust and crushed her heart, and the affair partner poured salt and lye into the wound. For as many times as she forgave Ian, this was a pain inflicted far deeper than any she could recover from.
Alice didn’t drown herself in alcohol and go to the hospital in this universe. She instead wandered lost in the city with her luggage after she finally couldn’t take it anymore and ran away from Ian’s apartment. It was the most alone she ever felt in her life, in a place she didn’t know, with no one to trust who she could turn to. She felt like a housecat that had been thrown out of its home, forced to become a stray on the streets of a big, heartless city.
It was the loneliest Alice had ever felt in her entire life.
It took Alice a while to piece herself back together enough to make the return flight with the help of many phone calls with family and friends. They were there to meet her when she got off the flight at the airport and started crying as she was brought into a group hug.
Of course, in the aftermath, Ian still tried to reach out. He tried to fix things, make it work. Alice could never answer his calls. Hearing him crying and begging broke her further, but the entire incident added a heavy bitterness that kept her from wavering.
Jack arrived while Alice was still healing from such a devastating wound. While she had support immediately after the incident, eventually her family went back to their respective homes, Shaun moved away to further his schooling, and other friends of hers drifted further and further apart, especially after she had to move apartments.
Alice had to adjust to a new city where she knew no one and start her life over. She was alone in a big city, keeping a secret that few could learn about for fear that they wouldn’t understand or might take advantage of it. She was scared and wary of Jack when he suddenly entered her life, but also felt a strange longing. Her heart that wished for those beautiful loving moments with Ian now nudged her towards Jack, and she couldn’t understand why part of her wanted him that way. It made no sense.
Much like a cat, Alice kept her distance from Jack, but not too much. She didn’t want to be alone, so she didn’t want to stray far from him. It was complicated.
Fortunately, despite this feeling of wrongness, Jack constantly proved himself to be gentle and kind. He did so much for Alice, took care of her. He saw her as a cat and was actually enthusiastic about cats. He loves cats in fact! He didn’t think she was strange or scary for being able to transform. Alice found it kind of nice having someone she could trust like this, a secret invisible/imaginary(?) friend that she had all to herself.
Besides her family, the only other people who knew her secret were Ian and Shaun. Alice thought she could trust Ian with anything, but she learned the hard way that she trusted him far too much.
Shaun, as one might expect in this sort of AU, is also a cat shifter. Moon Pie will also be a shifter he adopts. Yes, it means he gets to be a single father, but how could he leave poor baby Moon Pie all alone in the world? Plus we get to see cute moments of Moon Pie in her adorable human form.

Look at that face. Who would be heartless enough to leave her behind? Credit for the gorgeous art, as always goes to the awesome Sauce. Consider supporting them and SnaccPop Studios on patreon!
Cat shifters can sense one another on instinct. That’s how Shaun figured out what Moon Pie was and how he and Alice spotted one another right away when they first met at the college. It made Ian feel uneasy how quickly the two bonded, and he couldn’t help but feel jealous despite being otherwise secure in their relationship. Alice might’ve trusted Ian with her secret, but she wasn’t about to share anyone else’s without permission, so Ian didn’t learn the real reason why they clicked so quickly.
Shaun didn’t like Ian’s vibes so never let Ian in on the secret that he was a shifter like Alice. It also gave him a little bit of petty satisfaction to see Ian jealous. It made bearing his one-sided crush on Alice a little easier. Of course he would never do more than lightly poke Ian to make himself feel better. He would never try to break up a happy couple, and he wasn’t a scumbag who cheats on his partner or helps other people cheat on their partners.
Of course, Shaun soon learned they weren’t quite as happy a couple as they wanted to be.
Sleepovers with Shaun in this universe involved kitty cuddle puddles. There was nothing like curling up together all warm and toasty in some blankets during a horror movie marathon. Cats can do some pretty close cuddling too. It certainly would’ve made Ian and Jack pretty jealous if they saw it!
Which is exactly why Shaun is going to do so when he’s staying at the apartment after getting settled in. He’s gotta pay back Jack for rubbing it in his face that Alice chose Jack after all.
Of course, Shaun isn’t going to have the same split instincts that Alice had. He’s going to be freaking out over Jack, being extra defensive over Alice. For as much as Alice insists that Jack isn’t dangerous, it’s hard for Shaun to shake the feeling of wrongness. Alice fully understands the feeling, as she felt it before. Really, that feeling hasn’t gone away completely, she’s just managed to calm her instincts in that regard with the love she feels for Jack. He’s managed to soothe those defensive instincts down to just a small prickle at the back of her mind.
Since Shaun can’t convince Alice that Jack is bad news, he’s more determined to stick around and keep an eye on Jack. Given how much Alice gave of herself to Ian, who only hurt her in the end, Shaun isn’t convinced that history won’t repeat itself with Jack.
Really, Shaun would consider coming up with excuses to stay in the apartment longer if not for poor baby Moon Pie. Both he and Alice would be worried about her being distressed by Jack's presence. Shaun, naturally, goes protective papa mode, and Alice wants to do all she can to comfort her. For Moon Pie's sake, it's best that they get their own place.
Of course, Shaun would prefer that Alice comes with them and leaves Jack behind.
Jack does try to reassure Moon Pie that he's not dangerous, as she is just an innocent, blind child. It makes him very sad to see any child afraid of him. It bothers him more than he'll admit. (After all, it was Joseph's fear that he might hurt or upset kids as Sunny Day Jack.) He goes out of his way to try and be friendly to her, but she's not convinced, and often openly hisses at him even in human form.
It hurts Jack a lot that the only child that can perceive him is so afraid of him. He can't rest easy with that, eating away at him similar to certain bad memories, so he makes it his personal mission to befriend Moon Pie. It's a priority for him that comes second only to taking care of Alice and loving her.
I figure that Shaun sees a shadowy outline where Jack is, something twisted, putrid, and rotting. Jack gives off a phantom stench that he recoils from. He can't see how Alice can stand to cuddle that thing.
Alice did see Jack in a very distorted way when he arrived. Hell, he still doesn't quite fit in reality, but she can see him for what she is. Her love for him has dulled those repellant sensations so she can better sense him the way he wants her to see, feel, hear, smell, and taste him.
Moon Pie, being blind, can't actually see Jack, but she can keenly feel him, and smell the wrongness. She calls him stinky and often buries her face in Shaun's shirt when Jack is around so she doesn't have to smell him.
While in Sunshine in Hell, Shaun is going to be wary of Jack, over time, he does warm up to the guy, as there’s no instinctive sense of wrongness interfering in that universe. With his protective instincts on high alert in this one, he’s going to have a much harder time calming down about the guy, if he ever does.
It's possible though that Moon Pie will warm up to Jack before Shaun does. Children are more adaptive, and Jack is experienced with dealing with children, plus he is very sincere in wanting to befriend her. Regardless of his feelings about Shaun, he badly wants Moon Pie to like him. Alice certainly helps by championing him as a good guy who can be trusted despite what their feline instincts might lead them to believe.
You bet your sweet bippy that Shaun is going to dig hard into Jack’s past and figure out what the hell is going on with him. He wants to learn everything - where Jack came from, how Jack came to be, what the hell Jack even is, etc. He might wind up digging and clashing with Jack to the point that he gets treated to a certain little speech…
But this was supposed to be a fun and silly AU, so let’s put the drama and yandere horror on the shelf for now and get back to the sweet fluff.
Once Alice gets comfortable with Jack, she’ll start spending time after work curled up in his lap as a cat. Somehow he always manages to find just the perfect ways to stroke her and get her purring. It feels so good, and she practically meeeeeeeelts at his touch. Relaxing as a cat was the best way to unwind, but Jack makes the experience even better, massaging all the soreness out of her muscles and encouraging her to just sprawl across him languidly, opening up to him completely and without reservation or shame.
Jack can’t help but imagine Alice as a human in those positions. It certainly gives him a hard time while they’re still in the friendship stage. He’ll need to be subtle about readjusting his comfy kitty sunshine to rest in his arms or on a pillow in his lap as he hides just how excited he made himself with his naughty private thoughts.
Naturally, once they become a couple and things get intimate, Jack uses these petting sessions as an excuse to coax Alice to let him touch her in human form… though she can keep those cute kitty ears and tail. He just loves how sensitive those parts of her are, so perfect for him to exploit. He can stroke and lick and nibble, making her mewl for him in the most sinful way.
The purring is nice too. Jack loves to point out when Alice is purring for him. It makes him so happy that he can make her feel so good… and of course the purring feels wonderful when he’s inside her. It’s practically sinful the way her warm body vibrates around him, so intimate and pleasurable. Her halfway form has a texture to her tongue, nothing sharp but the little bumps are so nice when she’s going down on him.
Alice is always extra careful about her fangs, but Jack doesn’t mind if she uses them on him. In fact, he encourages it. He loves it when she leaves love bites all over his body, marking him with her love. He makes sure to return the favor so that the whole world can see his love all over her precious body.
Although Jack can’t carry cat Alice around in public like she can in the AU where Jack is the cat, he can still enjoy some kitty in the titty time. His chest is so warm, with ample cleavage that’s perfect to snuggle into. He can even zip up the bottom of his jacket to make sure she won’t fall out of his shirt - not that he would ever allow that to happen. He would never hurt his sunshine, ever!
As a cat, Alice is so small, vulnerable. There’s something just so soothing being tucked into Jack’s shirt, pressed against his skin, listening to his heartbeat and breathing as she’s wrapped up in his warmth and scent. The way he strokes her and coos sweet words of love are addicting. It’s so hard for her to want to leave this warm little nest she found in his arms, her safety from a cold, lonely world.
It’s familiar too. Sometimes in that hazy state of half-sleep, Alice imagines tattoos on Jack’s chest and phantom scents that are so nostalgic and make her think of home. It’s not quite memories of Mary, but she also loved to be held by Joseph just like this a lifetime ago. The world wasn’t so big and scary when she was surrounded by love.
Jack subconsciously remembers these moments as well, the familiar fur and purring, the way his sunshine rubs her cheek against his chest to mark him with her scent on instinct, claiming him as hers. He is hers, and Alice is his. It’s a truth that had been blurred in his mind for so long, lost and distorted with all his other memories, but now it's oh so clear.
Jack knows that being with Alice is why he’s there. He knew her once - these moments were too familiar, too much like home for him to convince himself otherwise. He can’t remember when or where… but this is his sunshine, his amazing, beautiful, supernatural sunshine that makes him warm like no one else ever could.
Alice was so lonely without Jack, he knows that. Even with her family and other relations… he knows she must have been missing something, someone important. Fortunately, he’s here now, and he will never let anything separate them. Ever.
People like Ian and Shaun are seen as opportunistic annoyances that swooped in to fill in the space Jack left behind in his absence. Alice doesn’t need them now that Jack is here.
Her family… can they be trusted? Jack isn’t sure. Since they're cat shifters, surely they'll react the same way Shaun and Moon Pie did. Alice gave him a chance in spite of that instinct because what they have is special. These people... he has no idea.
Alice clearly loves her family, often speaking highly of them. For some strange reason, a part of Jack feels like that’s not true. Not that he thinks Alice is lying! He's sure she means every word, but... he can't quite shake this feeling that they're not good for her. Thoughts of his sunshine’s family were like dark clouds, dimming her beautiful light… yet, what he sees time and time again is the opposite. She lights up when she talks to them over the phone or when she tells him things about them. They sound so warm, like her, and she’s certain that they’ll like him too, even if they have to work around the supernatural roadblocks.
Even still, Jack can’t completely shake the creeping dread that her family is a threat, like they plan to steal her away. He can’t remember why, and he feels bad for thinking that way when they mean so much to her, but he needs to make sure that nothing will ever get between him and Alice.
That’s a bit of a heavy note, but this AU is going to have a happy fluffy ending to it despite the occasional bump in the road because I’m a sucker for happy endings with my OTP. It’s just that this universe has a bit of a winding path to get there. In the end though, Alice and Jack will be happy, and eventually have a few kittens who can turn into children that look like a mixture of the two of them.
Wow, this silly AU ramble went on longer than expected. I should probably start wrapping things up, so I'll be really quick when touching on Barbie and Coraline.
Barbie, being a cat shifter, is a lot more prone to teasing Bo. She doesn't have any negative instincts towards him, but she knows the stereotype and can't help but use it as an excuse to tease her virtual doggy boyfriend. She won’t have the nickname of “Puppy” in this universe, but instead it’ll be “Kitty.” Bo might have issues with cats, but Barbie is his one and only exception. How can he hate her when she’s so warm, and he needs her so badly?
Still, Bo can’t help but go even crazier over her antics in this world, especially since she just loves to tease him without mercy. Like a dog, he wants to chase his kitten around, pounce on her, and show her who the alpha really is. Somehow though, his pretty kitty always manages to get the drop on him, making him be the one to roll over and expose his belly in submission.
Barbie is a large cat - think Maine Coon large - a brown tabby with black stripes and white accents. She has that classic tabby cat look that you could find most anywhere, but her eyes are still dazzling shades of blue and brown that have her stand out from an ordinary cat.
Barbie, also, is a master of the kitty smirk. She uses her feline form as a means to escape interacting with people, and favors climbing to high places to lord over others. In her cat form, she has a collar she wears, and after she gets Bo she decides to clip his digital pet charm onto it so she can take him on wild adventures through the city. It’s a pretty jostling ride, but Bo prefers being shaken up by his kitty and having the world turn into a blur around them as she runs and jumps around rather than being left behind alone at her apartment.
Coraline is the definition of a house cat due to her health problems. It hurts less to be a cat, strangely enough. Like Barbie, she’s also a brown and black tabby, but she has a lot of white patches along her face, head, belly, and “socks” on her feet. She also has a pretty pair of golden brown eyes.
Although cats instinctively recoil from ghosts, Coraline is still fascinated with them. The sensation she gets from haunted spaces is a rush that makes her addicted to learning more and more about them. When she meets Elias, she’s frozen in place with her instincts screaming in fear, yet at the same time she’s never felt more alive.
So, in a way, cat Coraline is much more of a thrill seeker in this universe, just when it comes to encountering the supernatural. While she might not be healthy enough to parkour around the city like her big sister Barbie, she’s still living quite the exciting life at a more moderate pace.
I think I’ll wrap things up there. Admittedly, there’s not too much different from the regular continuity overall, just some fine feline features have been tweaked here and there. Still, I had fun indulging in images of Jack cuddling kitty Alice and the interesting and unexpected dramatic shifts in the story that comes from what was otherwise a very silly AU. I hope you all enjoyed reading about me indulging in my love of kitties mixed with my OTPs!

What about Evil Author Day?
[Evil author day is all about showing off drafts that may or may not ever get finished here are some of my WIPs… You can tell me if you liked something, but we’ll never know if it’ll ever get posted so here’s 6k of rough jamikali drafts with some context!]
#1 [Exactly as it says in the summary]
(Summary: Kalim is pretty sure his boyfriend broke up with him last week. One hundred percent sure. Super sure. The most sure he's ever been in his seventeen years of existence. He can even pinpoint the exact moment they broke up. Yet for some reason, Jamil (the ex-boyfriend in question) doesn't seem to have gotten the memo.)
Since coming to NRC, all of Kalim's mornings have been the same. Wait for Jamil to wake him up, wash his face, get dressed by Jamil, and then they eat breakfast. A routine that admittedly has had some variations but mostly stayed the same. Up until two weeks ago at least, when Jamil overblotted. Now, Kalim has to slowly learn to do things by himself and he screws up. A lot. Still, he tries very hard. There's one problem though. A very tiny, minuscule, super small problem. One he doesn't actually find offense in and actually quite likes, but it's still a problem.
Once Jamil finishes inspecting him and fixes his clothes, right before they leave for the lounge room to eat with the rest of the students, he always (and Kalim means it when he says always) kisses him. And that's weird. Sure, that was part of their routine before the winter holidays so Kalim accepts it by habit, but it's weird. Because Kalim is pretty sure they broke up on the day Jamil overblotted.
* * *
There are two days Kalim remembers well in this relationship. First, the day they started dating – when Jamil, after having received his acceptance letter, came to his room to say goodbye before leaving – and when the break-up happened – hard to forget when the scars are still fresh. The timeline (Kalim drew it on his notebook to make sense of it) is more than clear. It lasted a little over a year and four months and Kalim has fond memories of it. *Had*. Now… Despite how it all came crashing down, there’s no denying that he holds every single moment they spent together as special. Even if the logical part of his brain tells him that for Jamil it must have been just work, that he went along with Kalim's confession not to compromise his job, Kalim can't help but cherish the memories. He's not good at remembering things usually, but these days are an exception. Thinking back to Jamil's words during the holidays, it's certainly selfish to take comfort in something that must have caused him great pain but Kalim isn't quite ready to let it go all at once. Like with how he learned to wake up and dress by himself step by step, he'll learn how to leave these moments in a corner of his mind.
That's why they have to make a clean break so they can both move on. After watching the all the movies Cater recommended to him about that subject (he doesn't understand why Cater looked so concerned or why he told him to “Talk for real before you do anything, 'kay, Kalim-kun?”), he can safely say that he understands everything that needs to be concerning break-ups. Even the long monologues under the rain (he can use Oasis Maker for that the need arises), the ice cream to eat after it finally happens (he'll ask for Jamil's permission to eat it after dinner) and the Carpet is always ready for a promenade (that one wasn't in the movies, but it's still good), he has everything prepared. The only thing missing is the most important – the actual break-up declaration.
But it's fine. It'll happen in due time… Or rather when Kalim works up the courage to do it.
#2 [A draft written for last year’s Year of the OTP prompt “Np, I’m not dating your sister” starring… well, one of Kalim’s sister.]
Just as he finishes the second to last sentence, the door bursts open, and a cheerful white-haired girl steps into the room, holding a tray. Behind her, a panicked servant is trying to get the tray back, and she straightens up when she notices Kalim looking at her. The teapot precariously placed on the tray is a clear safety hazard but Kalim doesn’t think his sister will listen to anyone, even someone who’s so obviously worried about her. He would say it's part of her charm. With a beaming smile, she presents him with the tray where the teapot is threatening to spill at any moment and the glasses are spinning in a nonsensical rhythm that reminds him of some of his NRC friends after being put through the Playful Land rollercoaster.
“Kalim, I’ve brought you tea!” She almost brandishes the tray, making the objects on it bounce and some drops of tea fly in the air before landing on the carpet, forming a small puddle.
The face of her servant pales instantly. Kalim has never seen her before but knowing his sister cycles through servants after so many of them took a leave due to stress, he can sympathize with her. Jamil complains about him sometimes, but he's probably never been as stressed as Nour's servants… Hopefully.
“Thank you, Nour! You can place it here,” he tells her after clearing some space on the desk.
The servant lets out a relieved sigh when the tea doesn’t spill out on Kalim’s documents even as Nour practically slams the tray on his desk. It’s quite reminiscent of Jamil’s behavior when Kalim first started serving tea, a constant aura of worry and stress – Kalim feels a bit guilty now that he’s seen it from the outside. To keep the woman from having an early heart attack, he insists on serving the tea while his sister brings a chair over to sit with him.
“Did you come here for something in particular?”
It's probably not an emergency – she would have sent him a message if it were – so he relaxes in his chair, waiting for her to answer. She's one of his closest siblings both by age and because they have the same mother, but her behavior has always been a mystery to him. Lady-like and yet incredibly scatterbrained, a proper secondary heir if anything happens to him and yet totally disinterested in anything having to do with the family. She could say “I'm here so you can go with me to the opera” or “I'm flying to the Sunset Savannah, I’m coming back in two weeks, don’t look for me” and Kalim would only say that it’s very Nour-like. So he simply waits for her query without really worrying about it.
Taking a sip of tea, she nods. “Yes and no. I haven’t seen you at all since you came home, so first, I wanted to spend some time with you…”
It’s not that surprising that they haven’t met this last month. Kalim’s schedule is very busy, and he’s often dragged by his father to meetings and business visits from morning to night while Nour… Well, she likes sleeping in. And doing as she pleases. Their rooms are in different wings of the palace, and they don’t visit their mother's apartments at the same time so even if they’re close, they don’t have much opportunity to see each other. He’s about finished with his report so he can spare her some time to catch up.
“Give me two more minutes, and then I’ll stay with you until you’re sick of me!” With a smile, he returns to his report while Nour hums in agreement.
The ink on the final sentence hasn’t dried yet, but he simply tosses the paper aside to direct his full attention to his little sister. She has helped herself to the plate of cookies he keeps on his desk (made by Jamil and given to him that morning when they passed each other), her cheeks as round as a hamster as she chews. The conversation that follows her eating through half the cookie pile is one he often has while at school – praising Jamil’s food and having his interlocutor agree with him – when all of a sudden, she stills.
“Oh, I almost forgot!” She tucks a long strand of hair behind her hair, looking at her brother solemnly. “Hey, can I borrow Jamil tomorrow?”
“Of cou– W-wait, I’ll have to ask him first!”
It’s not something he can decide by himself – Jamil is his own person and not a toy to be borrowed on a whim. And that aside, tomorrow is their long-awaited day together – Jamil may have only agreed to stop him from pestering him but Kalim had been looking forward to it… But it’s a request from his cute little sister that he doesn’t see enough…
“Why do you need Jamil to begin with?”
“Some of my friends are coming tomorrow and I wanted to put on a magic show, but Mom is too busy to show us some tricks.”
“I could do it,” Kalim muses. “I’m a NRC student too–”
“I like Jamil’s magic better than yours!”
#3 [Kalim tries changing the way their relationship works a little too drastically.]
Kalim doesn't keep anything from Jamil, that's a fact. Or at least that was a fact before the overblot. We don't need to know everything about each other – it’s what Jamil told him after a few days of awkward silence and tentative conversations and since then, Kalim has done his best to come up with things not to say to Jamil.
It's still a short list for now, but it's been slowly expanding. Talking about classes is fine. Meals… Mostly fine until Kalim requests something that takes time and unusual ingredients to prepare (Jamil always does it in the end but not without complaining the whole time). Octavinelle is a touchy subject despite them and Jamil being friends – he insists they aren’t like with Kalim, but it doesn’t look like he hates them. Kalim can ask about the basketball club, but he’s strictly forbidden from attending matches – before Jamil only advised him not to come… Friendship declarations put him on thin ice, at risk of being ignored or ridiculed – Kalim prefers the latter. (It hurts a little when Jamil doesn’t look at him.) “I love you”s are met with “And I hate you”s without fail, but there’s a reaction at least.
Which leads to skinship. People often remark on their closeness, especially since Kalim transferred to NRC, but that’s just how they communicated up until now. No need for words when a touch suffices, no need for fanciful turns of phrases when a gesture encompasses (and surpasses) anything they could ever say. That’s how it is between them… But this is also what Kalim would have said about anything relating to the both of them before the overblot. And in the end, it’s just another misunderstanding.
There’s another list, one for things not to do anymore and that’s the latest thing he added on it – just today as a matter of fact. Recalling what he overheard a few minutes ago, Kalim faceplants on his bed. Floyd and Jamil, the gymnasium after school and the words his servant almost yelled when dragged into another one of Floyd’s whims… So Jamil dislikes being touched that much… Kalim didn’t know. It’s another thing to add to the ever-growing pile of things he’s learned about Jamil over the last few weeks. Despite declaring he wouldn’t hold back anymore, Jamil never said anything about Kalim’s constant invasion of his personal space But he isn’t to blame here. The fault lies in Kalim for not noticing his friend’s discomfort. Jamil is nice. He understands Kalim can’t change that easily and that’s why he still helps him from time to time. That’s surely why he stays silent about that issue.
Then hugs are out of the question starting now. Things like putting his head on Jamil’s shoulder or linking arms when walking… Forbidden too, he decides after some reflection. Perhaps it’s actually better to stop approaching Jamil in the first place? That’s not yet possible – for as long as they stay in this school, they can’t shake off their work relationship. While Kalim wants to believe they can move past it, it doesn’t seem to be Jamil’s case. The door opens as he starts rolling on his bed to think about ways to go about it all.
“Kalim, I’m home– What did I tell you about keeping your uniform in bed?”
“Sorry, I was thinking!”
“Thinking?” Jamil raises a brow. “That’s rare. About what?”
“Eh? Hm, well… That’s a secret! Nothing bad, don’t look at me like that!”
#4 [(Pre-canon) They’re stranded in an unknown city after a kidnapping. This was inspired by my mother’s hometown so I’d like to finish it…]
Being outside late at night is not that bad, Kalim thinks. Better than what Jamil warned him about even – getting there was the actual problem. The city they're in is bustling with life, people at every corner even there, at the edge of town. At least he thinks it's the edge – he's never been there or in this city in general, but the only things around are a few palm trees, the beach, and buildings further away, so his conclusion seems sound. To make sure, he turns to Jamil at his right, eager to get some information.
“Jamil, where are we?”
It takes a few seconds for Jamil to answer – he's too focused on the passersby walking past where they're hidden, his lips pressed into a thin line. Kalim waits for a reply, but it's only when he grabs Jamil's hand that his friend looks at him. Jamil's fingers are cold to the touch, so strained it's hard to intertwine his with them, but Kalim doesn't mind. His skin is still hot from what happened earlier, and the small cuts and bruises on his hand appreciate the cold touch.
“In…” Shaking his head, he sighs. “Somewhere.”
“I see! Somewhere. Somewhere good or somewhere bad?”
“Somewhere somewhere. I don't know.”
“That's better than the somewhere bad from earlier, at least! Still pretty bad though.”
“Kalim…”
“Sorry!”
“It's nothing, don't apologize… We'll move out soon.”
He said that before already – Kalim is pretty sure it's the fourth time in ten minutes. It's quite unlike Jamil to look that lost and repeat himself, and it's been this way ever since they arrived here. Perhaps it's because they've only walked through back alleys and the likes, but they can't find a single panel to indicate where they are – the creeping darkness doesn't help. Asking for assistance from passersby is too risky, Jamil says, especially when they haven't moved that far from the place they've just escaped, but it seems he's reached his break point. Just as he's thinking this, laughing voices and conversations become more (net), closer, and he's dragged closer to Jamil.
They've been standing – more like crouching behind a wall – for what feels like hours now as his friend observes the surroundings without moving. Every time someone passes by like right now, Jamil tenses and brings Kalim closer, hiding his face in the crook of his neck. From Kalim's point of view, it's a bit much – he's already wearing Jamil's clothes, with the hood pulled over his face enough that he can barely see what's in front of him. The scent of sweat and dirt clinging to Jamil's skin and shirt makes his nose tingle in a strangely agreeable way. The place he was kept in before should have had the same smell yet the only feeling that it roused inside his heart was unease and resignation.
Where are the men who kidnapped him now? If they're searching for them… No, they're probably far enough that it'll be okay. Jamil didn't risk it all for them to fail. His Unique Magic put them to sleep, but surely they must have woken up by now – hours blend into each other but Kalim distinctly remembers the sun shining high in the sky when Jamil opened the door leading outside. And now… His friend's hand on the back of his head keeps it stubbornly in place but after some light struggle – and Jamil sighing – he turns it to the side and the night sky fills his view.
Perhaps it's because there's no light. Or perhaps it's because they're in the boonies – not that he knows where they are actually. Maybe it's something as simple as the fact there are no clouds. Reasons matter very little – and anyway, Kalim prefers listening to Jamil's explanations when it comes to science rather than think about it by himself, but one thing is certain. He's rarely seen the stars this clearly, this shiny from Silk City. The sky is black as ink, night having fallen before he realized it.
#5 [A fake dating no magic AU. I could actually toss the first chapter as it is on AO3 as it’s over 2k words long and works well enough, but I want to write more about this dynamic…]
Kalim tapped his fingers on the edge of the glass. “Ugh… Remember how I had to meet someone’s daughter last year?”
“Yeah.”
It was difficult to forget when Jamil was the reason – it was Kalim’s fault, but he was the reason – that it went sideways. And even aside from how it ended, that story began very badly. (But really, the premise itself was weird – why arrange for a marriage of convenience in that day and age?) His parents even had to ask him to convince Kalim to go to that meeting because he was the only one Kalim would listen to. The singular embarrassment that came with trying to set your childhood friend on a sort of blind date at your parents’ behest was… Unforgettable to say the least. Just thinking about it, goosebumps crept up on his skin.
Of course, he wasn’t privy to what had happened that day (and he was oh so thankful for it) but the killer stare that girl had sent his way when they saw each other at one of the Al-Asims’ parties (as the secretary’s son, he kind of had to attend them) told him everything. It was the same he had seen on so many people throughout all his years of knowing Kalim. Ah, that idiot spent the whole date talking about me, and so he wasn’t surprised when the whole fiancée thing fizzled out.
Kalim… Well, Kalim was too attached to him (not in a romantic way, just in a way Kalim-way) to ever date someone. Apparently, after this disastrous – Jamil can only imagine – experience, Kalim’s parents had seemingly given up on setting him up with someone until after high school. Or that was the way things should have been. So why was he bringing that up today?
“My parents want me to meet someone else next week. Sprung that up on me and then boom! They hung up before I could reply!”
The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, Jamil thought. Rubbing his temples, he asked. “What about the whole we’re waiting for you to graduate condition?”
“I think Mom persuaded Dad.” With a sheepish grin on his face, Kalim shrugged as he set the glass on Jamil’s night table. “You know how she is!”
Of course, Jamil knew. Kalim’s father was no pushover, but it amounted to nothing when it came to his mom. Maybe Kalim got that weird “I’ll do anything for you” appeal from her because he too could make people go along with his stupid life choices – not Jamil though, he was only following Kalim to stop him.
“I think she wants grandkids as soon as possible, so she’s pushing for a marriage right after graduation! What a pain…”
“And why should I help you?”
Because the conversation was about that. And despite the relaxed mood, the fact they had that big dispute last month didn’t change. This event should be fresh in both their minds – there was no reason for Kalim to seek his help after declaring he wouldn’t bother Jamil anymore. Actually, it wasn't like he didn't expect it – Kalim being all talk and no action was something he took into account but maybe not that fast and not for that sort of thing.
“Don't you have other people to ask?”
There was always a crowd around Kalim for plenty of reasons, yet he didn't think about asking them? Well, Kalim relying solely on Jamil wasn't that strange at that point-
“Oh, I already asked everyone, but they said no, so you're like my last hope!”
“Excuse me?”
Something wasn't right. If he was in a pinch, even if they didn't spend all their time together anymore, Jamil should have been his first choice, not the absolutely last one. What was wrong with Kalim?
Kalim, unaware of what he had done, started counting on his hands. “Yeah, I asked Silver, Leona, Floyd… Everyone actually– wait no, I wanted to ask Ortho or Ace, but then someone told me to ask you instead… So I guess you're not my last hope, but my next to last one…? Or something!”
#6 [Young jamikali gets thrown into NRC and meet their future selves. Babies are cute! Their different dynamic is cute compared to jamikali’s usual one… There’s a lot more to this WIP that is not shown here.]
Sometimes the Mirror of Darkness malfunctions. It’s just a thing that happens and though it’s quite rare, it usually fixes itself quickly… Unless your name is Yuu that is. But they’re the exception that proves the rules, the headmaster stressed it – less for the students than for him probably. Every other anomaly gets fixed in less than a week. Yes, every single one… Like the two very small anomalies that Ace and Deuce bring to Kalim on this fine Monday afternoon.
* * *
Today was going so well. No mistakes in class, no falling asleep in the courtyard and missing the bell, and Jamil even smiled at him during lunch (and it was a nice smile, not a mean one). To make a long story short, it was the best way to begin a week.
Well, something was bound to happen I guess, Kalim thinks as he looks down, to the “anomalies” using his lap as a seat. No matter how many times he glances at them, there’s no doubt about the fact they’re Jamil and himself. Only small. Very small. When the first years brought them to him, he thought it was an illusion but their weights on him are real. Their small knees and elbows dig into him as he adjusts on his seat.
He can't pinpoint their exact age – he has clear memories of looking like this Kalim once, and he knows Jamil looked like this before but when? Their cheeks are so round that even if he looks at them from behind he can see their curves and their big eyes glancing around the room betray their extreme youth. Jamil's hair is short enough that his ponytail barely serves any purpose and Kalim's reaches his shoulders. When was the last time he was allowed to grow out his hair this much? Kalim's brain isn't of any help so he resorts to the easiest method of finding out.
“How old are you two?”
The younger Kalim looks at him then at his fingers before holding three of them up. “Four!”
“That’s not four,” Jamil pipes up, reaching for Kalim’s hand to correct him.
“Whoa, you’re so smart, Jamil”
“Of course!”
“T-thanks mini-me and mini-Jamil…”
His younger self is too engrossed in observing the room they're in to answer but Jamil nods, cheeks a little red. Cute. Kalim strokes his head, unbothered by the kid trying to make him stop. So cute. This Jamil looks like he could be one of his little brothers. A cough interrupting him makes Kalim look at the other person in the room.
#7 [A Fate/Stay Night-inspired AU and a personal favorite. I don’t like writing plot-heavy stuff, but this one is special to me as I’ve already got almost everything laid out in my head…]
“Servant, Rider. You’ve summoned me so that makes you my Master.”
The youth opens his eyes and Jamil’s breath hitches in his throat. They’re the same kind of deep red as the ruby he used as catalyst. The solemn atmosphere lasts only for a moment.
“Yep, yep, you look like a good magus, it’s going to be great– wah!”
And just like that, the Servant who's supposed to lead him to victory doesn't stick his landing and faceplants on the ground. His flying carpet rushes to his sides and waves his fringes at him, seemingly worried.
“♪~”
“Don't worry, Carpet! It's fine!”
No, it's not. Jamil stays silent and watches the strange farce of his Servant and the carpet. It makes the Servant stand and is in the middle of dusting him when the boy turns to Jamil, an all too proud expression on his face.
“So, Master!” He grins. “We're going to be a super duper team, don't worry about that!”
No, we won't. “First, Spirit Form, please. You'll attract too much attention like this.”
It may be the middle of the night, but to inform the Church, Jamil will have to walk through the business district which never sleeps. No way he's doing that with a weirdo, especially one whose stupidly expensive-looking bracelets and jewels are on full display. Getting noticed before the War even starts isn't something he wants.
“Eh… Can't we talk a bit before? At least give me your name! Or should I keep calling you Master?”
“Just call me Jamil. Rider, we're moving.”
“Roger that, Ma– Jamil!”
Rider disappears, and Jamil senses an invisible force following him. If only going into Spirit Form had made Rider shut up.
“Wow, I've never seen a building that tall!”
“Hey, can we visit the city later? I want to see everything from above with the Carpet!”
“Jamil, did you see that bird?!”
“Rider, if you don't stop talking, I'll use this,” he showed the Command Spells on the back of his hand, “to make you mute.”
“Wait, I'll stop, don't waste a spell on that!”
#8 [Age gap no magic AU. A bit inspired by the ShotaOni series? I don’t remember. Anyway, it’s just about Jamil taking care of baby Kalim so maybe it’s more gen than anything?]
I'm busier than you. The words didn’t leave his mouth, but the look of understanding – and disappointment – in his classmate’s eyes assured him there was no problem.
He hurried towards the school's gates, waving at the friends he had met on the way. Usually, on days without club activities, he would go play after school with friends, go to the arcade or just eat at the nearby fast food joint before going home. Today though, he had to pass. For reasons outside his control.
Really, he wished he could at least go home and sleep – he studied late into the night yesterday because of upcoming exams – but unfortunately, he had a “job” to do tonight. And no matter how much he didn't want to do it, his parents would be so mad at him it wasn't worth the risk. In just a few minutes, he found himself in front of his house, but he passed it to go to the neighboring one.
Jamil took a deep breath. As long as he didn’t open the door in front of him, he would be free. Because, when the door would open, a little devil would jump on him and cling onto his arm until… well until he would fall asleep – he's a stubborn kid sometimes. So the question is why did he even accept to babysit Kalim? Answer: he didn't – he wasn’t even paid for it. The Al-Asim had wanted to give him some money, but his parents had declined, insisting that neighbors – though Jamil suspected they just wanted to curry favor their boss – should help each other. Plus, didn’t their sons spend so much time with each other already? It would just be a normal day for Jamil, no need for a salary.
It’s not like Jamil spent time with Kalim because he wanted to. The boy had just latched onto him when he was a toddler, and he still followed Jamil around like a chick followed its mother, years later. Jamil was already 14, he didn’t want to have a baby like Kalim around. The number of times he had to cancel plans with friends because of the younger boy couldn’t be counted on the fingers of both hands anymore. And he had a younger sister, closer in age to Kalim, but Najma straight-up refused his offer to trade places with him.
May as well get it over quickly, Jamil thought as he finally knocked on the door. Not ten seconds later, loud footsteps echoed inside the house. A loud thud! followed by a high-pitched ouch! made the door vibrate. Yeah, that was Kalim alright. Got here from school all alone – what a feat – and was apparently waiting at the door like a puppy.
“If it’s you Jamil, I’m opening the door right now!”
Maybe, just maybe, he should teach Kalim about stranger danger – wait no, that was his parents' job, not Jamil’s. When the door opened, Kalim appeared in the gap between it and the wall. As always, a big smile was etched on his face.
Jamil sighed. “How did you know it was me and not some creep?”
“Mmh?” Kalim tilted his head. “I just knew it! Don't worry!”
He wasn't worried. Just a bit concerned with how little common sense Kalim had – well he already knew that though.
#9 [Reincarnation into a no magic AU. Focused more on Riddle and Kalim’s friendship than on jamikali though Jamil (who doesn’t remember his previous life) is why Kalim does everything he does in this fic. Actually my brain baby and something I really want to write for real.]
“I wonder why I regained everything before you,” Kalim mumbles as he turns the page. “What’s the difference between us?”
“I…” Riddle swallows his saliva. “I have a theory. It’s not the most pleasant one but it’s the only one I can think of.”
“Really! What is it?”
“I imagine it’s just a matter of longevity. If I lived longer than you previously then I have much more memories which my brain takes time to process. And if you died young…” His voice trails off.
Silence. They stay like this for a few minutes. Kalim feels sorry for having made Riddle uncomfortable – it’s not his friend’s fault if he died young in his previous life. And, to be quite honest, he only has unclear fragments of memory of his death, but he has never felt like it burdened him. Maybe it was a good death, surrounded by the people he loved. If so, it’s fine.
“Don’t beat yourself up over that, Riddle. I’m not sad about it! It happened, and I’m here again so that’s the most important.”
#10 [Yuri Scarabia. A fic about trying to gauge proper distances after the Overblot with flower symbolism or something.]
The flower she uses to decorate Kalim’s hair is jasmine – both the winter and summer variety but Kalim favors the summer one the most – for no particular reason. These are just the Scalding Sands’ national flowers, plants that grow bountifully in the gardens of their dorm because of this, small decorations that Kalim has always liked… So Jamil obliges. Obliged. There’s nothing that forces her to continue doing it now, not after everything that happened and Kalim trying to detach herself from her servant. Still, for all Jamil’s big declarations, there’s no way she can bear seeing her mistress frolicking around like an idiot with badly brushed and braided hair. (And she isn't letting Octavinelle touch Kalim again, especially when Floyd thinks trying the worst hairstyles on Twisted Wonderland on Kalim is funny. It's really not.)
So every morning, every night, and even between classes if needs be, she finds herself taking care of Kalim without really thinking about it. Really, it’s just that Kalim is too clumsy to take care of her own hair and there’s no one else who can arrange them like Jamil anyway. Plus, she's still on the job for now. Her hair isn’t the only thing Kalim can’t take care of – her skin, her clothes, her body, her studies… The list goes on. And on. And on. A non-negligible space in Jamil's brain is taken up by thinking about Kalim and everything having to do with her. That's just how things are between them – there's no doubt in Jamil's mind that it's the same for Kalim. You just need to look at her running to Jamil like a lost puppy to understand such a simple fact – even if she tries doing things on her own, she comes back to Jamil for little or big details. Like this morning.
After expertly taming Kalim's wild hair, perfectly braiding it, and tying her bandana around her head as always, Jamil takes a step back to admire her work. It's great – obviously because she did it – and it manages to make Kalim look like a proper lady instead of… whatever she is. It's great. It's great, but something is missing. That feeling has been scratching at the back of her brain ever since the winter holidays. She knows what is missing but can't do anything about it.
After all, it's her fault if the jasmine trees in the gardens have lost their flowers even if she doesn't quite remember how – what happened during the overblot is nothing more than hazy memories. Though, given the state the gardens were in when she checked on them for the first time since the incident, she thinks it must have been because of the magic unleashed during the battle. The students have been hard at work under her direction to restore them to their former glory, but it's very much a work in progress that has been quite slow ever since school started again. Of course, she hasn't replanted jasmine trees she used to pluck yet – they were at the back of the garden, hidden from view. There are some at the front, but she doesn't want to use them – cutting too many flowers from the trees will make it unsightly and the gardens are supposed to be shown off.
So until everything is done, she won't plant new jasmine trees for Kalim… but that's a half-truth at best. Yes, they aren't that important in the grand scheme of things (aka show off Scarabia's soft power) but it's not the hardest task she has even done for Kalim. The problem is that these trees were grafted from two specific ones in Kalim's home – very fancy and very expensive trees – and that she doesn't want to ask for other grafts. Not right now at least. If it were possible, she would have salvaged the old roots but even asking the Science Club yielded no results.
Kalim doesn't say anything when she turns toward the mirror to look at herself, only praises Jamil as usual and gets up to go eat breakfast. The first day Jamil didn't decorate her hair with flowers, she didn't say anything either. This lack of reaction doesn't sit well with Jamil.
#10+1 [Fire Emblem AU. Cheating with this one as I will definitely finish it because that was supposed to be my birthday gift to myself before I got too sick to write everything. I just want to show it off tbh.]
Jamil’s job had always been simple. Well, “simple” wasn’t the most apt word. Predictable. Exactly according to the job’s description. Always been the same ever since his great-grandfather's generation or so the stories his father told went. Protect the Al-Asim heir – currently Kalim – through thick and thin, ensure they inherit the country, and lay down your own life for them if need be.
For most of his life, Jamil had gone through the motions of something he didn’t believe in, blocking blades aimed at Kalim’s heart, stopping poison from approaching his mouth, all while thinking that the skills he had honed and the ones he never had to use for protection would never amount to anything. Being a prince’s bodyguard would be a dream for most people but not for him – this kind of destiny, imposed onto him because of the family he was born to… It was a curse.
Dying to protect an idiot like Kalim? A foolish prince who decided seemingly on a whim to infiltrate an allied army? Jamil was not going to do that. At all. Never. The spirits of his ancestors could curse at him from the afterlife all they wanted (and his parents could too), but Jamil resolved to do so as soon as he took up the mantle of Kalim’s servant.
Which was why the first to be surprised when he jumped between the bandit’s hand axe and Kalim was himself. The second was Kalim followed very closely by the brigand whose astonishment only lasted for a split second before he toppled over, felled by Jamil’s Kard, but not without planting his weapon in the servant's right shoulder as a parting gift. Jamil didn't feel the pain at first. His shoulder went numb, his dagger falling to the blood-soaked ground, but he felt incredibly normal, if only slightly off-balance. As if nothing had happened.
He turned to Kalim to yell at him for not paying attention to the battlefield – danger was present everywhere, even in simple skirmishes like this one – but the sight of his white dance clothes splattered with blood and his pale face made Jamil stop and look down at his own shoulder. Red. Nothing but red all over his body. Bile rose in his throat when he grabbed the axe, and chucked it on the brigand's corpse – more blood gushed from the open gash, but he was past caring for it. That was nothing. He had seen worse wounds on other soldiers and had inflicted worse on his enemies. He just needed a priest to heal him. Or a vulnerary to tide the pain over – the last one he had was used on a benign injury at the start of the battle, he remembered then.
“J-Jamil…”
Shut up. Jamil's mouth was too dry to speak, all his energy dedicated to standing and looking at the battlefield. Above them, Vil was surveying the surroundings on his pegasus, and in the front, Jack was tossing around the last of the bandits. Good. With no one left to attack them, Jamil could stop worrying about the idiot under his protection. If he could just find someone with a baton, he'd be alright… He took a step forward and flinched. The simplest of movements filled his sight with black spots. At this rate, he'd just– No, he had promised himself not to die on the job. His destiny was greater than that. Jamil took another step. His legs buckled under his weight and he fell to his knees on the muddy ground.

roy for the list thingy pretty pls!!!! (ur super cool btw >:3)
AWWWW THANK YOU i’m glad you think this blog is cool 🥹 it’s my favorite blog of mine i’m really proud of it… i don’t wanna waste time being sappy tho soooooo
roy🍕
fave thing about them: oh my god i like everything about roy lol. i admire roy so much. his personality is hilarious. like he’s a coward and apathetic at the same time. it’s so relatable. a lot of people may think that’s a total contradiction but if you’re a true #sufferer you’ll get it. also when he gets super pissed at willow/james for rear-ending his car it’s so funny. i think roy should be allowed to be an asshole sometimes he deserves it. also he’s the only chef who doesn’t smile at the beginning of the day in the original pizzeria THAT’S SO DAMN FUNNY but he’s happy sometimes too and that’s cute to see in the promo art (i specifically like that one christmas artwork with papa and joy and the gingerbread apartment it’s SO CUTE) anyways yay #peaceandloveonplanetearth
his design is one of my favorites. i love the pizzeria uniform AND i love his B style it looks so casual and it’s JARRING because when you see roy you never assume he’s just chilling. but that’s why it’s so funny. literally half of his B style is still work clothes. also read this old ass forum post it makes this even funnier

also i kinda like how he has an established family. idk if it’s apparent yet but i always end up thinking more abt family dynamics rather than ship ones… i don’t mean to favor that over romance bcuz i love shipping as well but IDK that’s just how my brain works. he has a cool ninja older sister and a weird ass uncle and i think it’s funny how he’s like the only average one of the bunch. lol 👍
also his orders are really good it’s like flipline understood the assignment with roy every single time. they never forgot…. also since he likes valentines most of the time most of his orders look super cute LOL i love that
least fave thing about them: there is not a single bone in my body that hates roy. you could not make me hate roy. never ever everrrrrr
brOTP: JOYYYYY i think they have a good relationship. i see interps of them not getting along which makes me kinda sad 🥲 but it’s a totally valid interp anyway so i try not to care especially if the fanwork isn’t focused on them anyways lol. idk roy has “fond memories” of being with joy (mentioned in her flipdeck) and she even “lovingly” based her kart off of her “dearest brother” LOL. also they both like berries and teriyaki and cookies and possibly other stuff as well and i just think it’s so funny how their taste is almost the same sometimes except for like a few things lol. i’ll have to look at that again but it’s such a pain in the ass cuz ninjoy and joy orders are separated on the flipline wiki LOL
OTP: so basically i see roy as the boring dating sim protag so i like ship him with like way too much people 😭😭😭 fave is probz roy x allan tho
nOTP: i can’t believe i have to say this but joy and papa louie 😓
random headcanon: i think he’s a really good cook in general and he could probably take over every other restaurant if he wanted to. but he DOESN’T want to. i think he has no idea what he wants to do so he just goes around and helps papa louie all day lol
i actually think he is well-liked by most customers because they don’t think he’s a gloomy dude, they just think he’s the brutally-honest reality check type of guy which is actually fun to have around LOL. he probably just thinks everyone hates him cuz of anxiety XD
he has “normie anime protagonist who is born into a family of greatness” energy basically
unpopular opinion: he doesn’t COMPLETELY hate his job he’s just kinda just doesn’t care abt it lol. he likes it when people enjoy his food and he takes pride in that. he’s like “GOD i can’t take it anymore i’m gonna quit” but the next minute he’s like “This is great. I'm going to get a good grade in pizza, something that is both normal to want and possible to achieve,” lol
fave picture of them: too much LMAO but probably this holiday picture cuz i think the tracksuit/hoodie (?) looks nice over the uniform and he is smiling :) awwww how nice!

shout out to this one from the pizzeria DX ad on youtube tho i use it at a reaction image all the time now 😍
#askz#ask game#roy#my headcanons#sorry for how long this is. idk how to convey any ideas in a concise manner 😭#i need a papa louie anime STAT he is perfect protagonist😍😍😍😍#i hope u guys dont think im like the smartest person ever i just wanna share my crazy specific headcanons 😭#i do it for the love of the game#there is probably someone way smarter about roy than me#if this shows up in the tag i humbly apologize i didnt mean it

Do Rich Rider next!
1. favorite thing about them
oh i love him i love how he’s genuinely just a completely average guy - earth heroes “average guys” tend to always be super geniuses ie. peter parker. but rich is genuinely just a completely average normal dude. he flipped burgers when he wasn’t nova-ing! he barely scraped through high school (again, cause of the nova thing!). he was just a genuinely normal teenager with a complex cause of his super smart little brother. becoming nova was both the best and worst thing to ever happen to him.
2. least favorite thing about them
man is lowkey self-obsessed in the sense a depressed person is. everything is his fault, he’s pathetic, he’s wasting everyone’s time. he was like this even before he got powers - he clearly has self-worth issues that just get exacerbated the more he survives. clearly not the only person who clocked this because rich going into therapy was such a huge step!
3. favorite line
Holy shit he’s such an icon
“Let’s scream in his face anyway.” 🥺
“I pulled [Annihilus] inside out and saved the universe. What have YOU done lately, Tony?”
“Shut it, warcrimes.”
“I loved him too. You know that, right?” I’m UNWELL
“Please, Rich. I think you need to talk to someone about this.” “About the fan-sites?” “About the fact you’re dying.” he’s UNWELL
“Let’s review. Your ride is toast. I’m Nova. You’re dead. Allow me to demonstrate.” HOT.
4. brOTP
sam alexander. they’re brothers!!!
also the new warriors. that group tends to be ignored these days as a very formative time in Rich’s life - i’m due a reread, i’m part of the problem, i haven’t read that in over 12 years! but yeah, so many fond memories there <3
5. OTP
peter quill. they’ve just made so much sense forever
6. nOTP
idk if I really have one tbh? he’s not popular enough for these to form
7. random headcanon
Rich’s real superpower is that he’s actually turned into a surprisingly good cook. He finds the process quite relaxing. Which the guardians really appreciate because Pete “no patience” Quill burns everything because he gets distracted and, while they won’t admit it, they did grow accustomed to earth food while they were stuck down there.
8. unpopular opinion
Thank god he never made it into the MCU. Since 2006 has been going from strength to strength in the comics (a part from the few years when he was dead!). Since he came back in 2016/17 I don’t think anything he has been in has been bad. He either has the magic touch or he’s insanely lucky for dodging MCU synergy and having writers who clearly love him!!
9. song I associate with him
Fortress by Queens of the Stone Age
Watch me While I Bloom by Hayley Williams
10. favorite picture of them
juann cabal Rich is my little guy his big brown eyes <3
