I saw a lot of discourse around Seventeen using AI in their comeback trailer, and I thought I'd share my take on it.

If you're interested, keep reading, it's a lot 😅

Also, please excuse any grammar mistakes, it's almost 2 am lmao

BUT once I watched the teaser as a whole a few more times and slowed it down to really look at each scene, I'd like to think that I understood the artistic vision behind it.

So, do I like them using AI? I don't know, not really if I'm being honest. I'm not a big fan of people using AI for commercial purposes, so I was a bit thrown off at first.

From my interpretation, it's their way of saying how much AI harms the arts.

First of all, let me bring out the line in the very beginning of the video that goes

"In our current reality where anything can be created with AI, who's the real maestro?"

It kind of highlights the fact to me that with music creation becoming more and more "accessible" to people - even those who have literally zero musical sensibility - with the help of AI, being "good" at creating music slowly loses its uniqueness and creditability. People won't look up to others who are good at writing lyrics or creating beats and they won't "idolise" them because they can have it with just a click of a button. It highlights that if we keep going down the route of using AI to create music, people could get credited with little to no music skills, and those who are actually skilled could lose their jobs.

It would also be hard to tell if the songs are actually created by living-breathing musicians with the help of human minds and emotions, or they're just a cheap AI copy that STEALS and uses already existing pieces of art to create something else.

Next, I'd like to talk about the trailer itself.

If you slow down the trailer to the slowest setting and just pay attention to the video, you can see a scene for a fraction of a second where Hoshi is kneeling with his hands tied in the middle of a bunch of robot looking soldiers(?) with their rifles pointed at him.

It's just one scene I distinctly remember, but most of the cuts looked like they were all somehow "controlled" by various types of electronic devices(?).

There are also AI created scenes in between some actual scenes of the guys themselves showcasing robots making music, also somewhat symbolising that people creating music with AI is just like as if it was robots creating it and it has zero human emotions involved whatsoever.

I also saw people saying that "since they used AI, they could've used something better quality so it doesn't look this ass" and all I can say to that is I think that was part of the point they're trying to make?

Like it's kind of symbolising that AI can never truly be as good as a piece of art created from human emotions BY a human? Idk that's just my opinion honestly.

In conclusion, all I can say is that I hope they only used AI for this one trailer alone, or like we'd only get a few seconds of AI in the MV AT MAX.

I'm not really fond of the idea of AI being used for commercial purposes, so I hope they only used it just for this one trailer to make a point.

I mean, we've seen many K-pop groups have trailers to music videos that had literally nothing to do with what was in the actual music video, so I'm hoping it's one of those cases.

I hope it's like a "prologue" to set the scene/tone for the MV itself.

First of all, thank you for speaking up.

In any type of society or a big group there exist a problem of a small loud minority gaslighting the silent majority. An individual from the silent mass thinks he is alone in his opposing view because he doesn't see his own opinion and thoughts echoed in the discussion in media or in comments on boards. So he keeps silent in fear of being ostracized.

When it comes to fans, writing about what they don't like or find lacking releases steam. Writing something positive? Not as attractive. A content person is a lazy person. There is no motivational "fighting spirit". Even I complain about songs but seldom write about what I like. It is just in human nature - take good things for granted and demand more and more.

Fans do leave positive comments, but usually under YT videos (I saw many an opinion that this comeback is the best there, heh). Either to thank the team behind the content or in hopes idols will read their words of support. Reddit, twitter? - a platform for small talk and offhand comments. Not to forget, other fans happily retwit and spread (and remember) negative twits and seldom retwit and discuss positive ones. People remember bad things much better than the good ones.

"I feel like unless you follow NCT, you wouldn’t even know they were having a comeback." - It goes for every group unless a fan pays close attention to music shows and k-pop music releases. I can't say when EXO had comeback last time. Let alone Cravity or even Seventeen (I know they had a song recently thanks to MokChu and SM fans accusing Hybe of copying aespa teasers only).

127 was promoted on Melon, Spotify, K-pop On, etc - streaming platforms and new k-pop songs playlists. M2, Killpo - choreo channels. Grammy site and other sites releases articles. It's these places that actually inform k-pop fans at large about new songs and comebacks. Fans still can't realise that the ways promotion brings results has changed and clings to some "badges of participation" that a group should collect every time.

Why ifans care about radio-appearences, a dying media, when noone even will translate a radio episode for them, for example? A tiktok with Seventeen will give more exposure than appearence on some YT show with a non k-pop MC.

Killer Voice is a different cause. It would be good if 127 were to go there again. Their first Killer Voice is still makes rounds.

Lastly. The comeback is still ongoing. There can be some programme appearences with a delay, who knows. Jungwoo has a variety show he is on. He can mention about the comeback there.

The OP on reddit wrote about own experiense - I found 127 through a YT programme with Tae and JN. OK. There is a ton of programmes on YT from past comebacks. Noone watches old episodes or what?

But anyway. As I said before, it is time to come to terms that 127 is a senior group by k-pop standarts. At the very beginning promotions are on a big scale because noone knows the freshly-debuted group. Meanwhile nowadays fans of Zerobaseone or Boynextdoor get to know about NCT through their biases fanboying over Doyoung and Jaehyun, or their biases making covers to their songs. The same way we get to know Taeyeon or Kyuhyun. Right now SM has several new groups (Riize and NCT Dream) and will debut new acts soon (SMgg and Naevis).

Riize is the most popular right now in SK. If they promote their seniors, the job is done, heh. Same goes for Stray Kids and Seventeen, who are friends with 127 neos.

Thoughts on PTT (Paint The Town)

Um. This was originally supposed to be on PTT as a whole. But I had a whole lot to say about LOONA’s line distribution. But then I made my own line distribution. So it’s back to PTT as a whole now.

To kind of wrap up my issues with the line distribution, I think that LOONA keep splitting up parts that one member could sing alone for little reason. And they did Kahei and Chaewon dirty (real question - when you hear their last bit, do you hear two people, and if only one, then who?). Everyone else is okay, save for the weird sharing.

Um. It’s not my favourite title track. Current ranking:

Butterfly < So What/PTT < Why Not < Hi High

PTT is kind of like Why Not in that I didn’t care about Heejin and Choerry’s first verse. I feel like in Why Not, the “I’m (not) a bad girl” parts are just stuff you have to put up with to get to the more enjoyable parts. It’s like that with PTT.

To be fair, I did enjoy the other parts of the first verse - Yves’ and Kim Lip’s rap, Chuu’s rap? Both are good with me!

Yeojin’s rap is great! I would like to understand what Yves rapped, but I don’t! Olivia’s rap is fine but Jinsoul’s rap throws me off. She seems to rap the second and third lines as if they’re the first and second lines, so it feels like her part ends prematurely.

I love the prechorus, but again, I would rather one person sings “Go, go, etc. Roll, roll”. Hyunjin, Haseul and Yeojin’s voices were similar yet different enough that it was jarring to realise it’s two people singing it and not one person (side note: I thought ViVi did the “Go, Go” bit in the teaser, lol). But the prechorus is perfect apart from that, my favourite title track prechorus.

The chorus is....... it’s decent. It gets the job done. I think the post-chorus really saves it. I don’t know why they autotuned Hyejoo’s voice but not Hyunjin’s, but I preferred Hyunjin’s version. I think the autotune was heavy on Hyejoo in this song. Anyway. LOONA’s title tracks have mever had a post-chorus before, so I can safely say this is my favourite title track post-chorus.

Bridge is okay except I don’t really get the English lyrics (the English lyrics are kind of hit-or-miss). Phenomenal singing though, my favourite title track bridge.

Chuu is Chomp this era, and I love that for her, she let everyone know she had a black belt with that “Let’s go!”

Something about the ending felt off to me, which also happened with Why Not’s, so it’s probably because they didn’t have another “We’re taking to the moon” (also, did they mean “We’ll take it to the moon” or “We’re heading to the moon” or -)

Overall, there’s something that’s holding me back from this song. I love a lot of its parts but something about its construction is..... off to me.

Choreography is fun! Like it a lot! I liked the editing with Heejin with the planets, and the video was very pretty! They really recycled that shot of Olivia with the drum though, lol

All of that said, I feel weird liking it given the discussions on CA. To be clear, I don’t intend to speak over who belong to culture(s) that are said to have been appropriated in this MV. I’m iffy whenever groups do something like this because no matter how respectfully they (attempt to) go about it, there’s always the fact that some creative staff looked at a culture that isn’t theirs and use it for aesthetic. I think what concerns me the most is finding out that LOONA imitated an Indian dance as recently as 2020 (timestamp at 6:02, but I recommend watching the entire video and part 1) - as of making this post (30/06/2021) they have not given an official apology for this. It feels hard to separate these two incidents, and I’m concerned that them using Bollywood elementa and Indian instruments are going to lead into more incidents, especially on variety shows which are kind of notorious for cultural and racial insensitivity.

I also want to listen to Indians who are offended by PTT, because while Indians are not a monolith and some are okay or even happy with it, fans with no connection to the culture are generally more receptive to those who say it’s okay and more hostile to those who disagree.

A lot of this account focuses on the LOONA characters, not just because I find it slightly strange to put real people in boxes, but because it provides separation between what I enjoy about LOONA and what is at best boring and at worst offensive about LOONA.

I think what made Butterfly work is that LOONA is separate to the large variety of women they represent in the video: LOONA stay in their choreography place while we get to see many women in their own environments. Butterfly would not have been as well-received as it was if we saw LOONA taking on clothing from cultures that weren’t their own

PTT is slightly different because it explicitly credits Bollywood for its music, so then there’s the question of where to take the question: is it “Should LOONA not have tried to use Bollywood elements?” or “Is it already enough to use Bollywood musical elements, or is it only fitting to also use Indian fashion?” Obviously I can’t answer, and no single group can either (again, not a monolith).

I don’t really know how to end this......... just please be receptive to those who feel offended by this, no matter what your opinions on LOONA prior to this have been.

[Dystopia : The Tree of Language] by Dreamcatcher - Album Review

So I’m finallly doing this! To be honest, after Deja Vu, my expectations for this comeback were extremely high and I was hoping to see something quite amazing from the girls and, to be fair, I believe they totally delivered. Not only were the teasers for this album absolutely beautiful and ethereal, very unique, in my opinion, they also went on a slightly different direction music wise, as this album isn’t as dark as the rest of Dreamcatcher’s discography, but still has their flavour.

I would like to also add that this is only my opinion. Please, don’t take any of what I say too personal.

Intro (1:20) : This is a very short track and it feels quite menacing to listen to, a bit like a horror movie OST, but the good type. It gave me chills, but left me thrilled from what it was going to come next, especially as it softens it’s melody completely in the end.

Scream (3:24) : I want to talk about the music video, the choreography and the lyrics regarding this track as I believe they all add to the full experience. So the MV was preceded with wonderful teasers about the story of this particular album and as a sucker for things like this, I fell immediatly in love with those, which led me to fall head over heels with the video. Aesthetic wise, I couldn’t ask for anything more, besides that I wish some scenes were recorded outside of a studio. Apart from this, the colours, clothes, hairstyles and shots are absolutely amazing. Gahyeon was the one who caught my eye the most this time around, specially in her part at 1:30 and 2:17. The plot wasn’t completely understandable throughout the music video, but I believe that is for Insomnias and other viewers to make theories of their own. 

The choreography is so powerful and much more sensual, in the chorus mostly, compared to their previous ones. I think they absolutely did amazing and, once again, pulled this concept really well. Not only this, but they’ve also managed to incorporate Handong’s position in it, which is truly a really sweet thing from them. I think it’s better seen in the 'Scream' Dance Video (연습실 ver.) , as the girl with the mask on represents Handong.

When it comes to the song, this is obviously very different from, for example, Deja Vu and PIRI. Even so, this has quickly become one of my favourite comebacks from them. Vocal wise, Siyeon and Yoohyeon did amazing and sing beautifully and powerfully, while Gahyeon and Dami absolutely destroyed in an awesome way with both of her rap bits. The song is quite balanced and the build-up is really well done, while the drop that follows makes everything so much more enjoyable.

Lyrically, the song tells the story of someone who goes through a lot of pain to want to inflict the same damage on their perpretator. It goes from someone who was compeltely terrified from another person to want to defend themselves and stand up to their abuse. My personal favourite is:

“Tricks behind the mask, ridiculous freaks The growing hatred gives birth to random targets I swallow up the burning thirst but hypocrisy says it’s my fault The end is sitting at the edge of a cliff It’ll be a choice that only remains regret “

Tension (3:11) : Ah, the beginning of this song alone left me thrilled, the guitars made it so awesome! Listening to the song, it feels a bit like something that would fit really well in one of their first albuns and that sort of feeling of nostalgia makes the track quite enjoyable. I don’t think this one is very memorable though, as fun as it is. The build up gets tiring after a while, but, nonetheless, still a really good song. It also reminds me a lot of those old anime intros for a shounen genre anime type! 

Red Sun (3:05) : This is by far my favourite song of the whole album. It’s absolutely amazing just from the start it has, it feels creepy, reminding a bit of Chase Me or GOOD NIGHT eras. Afterwards that, Dami comes and completely wrecks the listener, she sounds powerful, sexy and amazing. I think the main reason for this to be my favourite is because it mixes a lot of favourites from Dreamcatcher. It captures that sentiment of eeriness, while having a sort of fun, but calm type of melody in it’s chorus, reminding me a lot of Wonderland and July 7th . This is a track I definitely recommend listening to.

Black or White (3:24) : This song is so cool and I believe it goes well with the vibe that the group initially had on their debut. It’s a bit different from Scream but it still has the power and tenacity one expects from Dreamcatcher. The chorus is extremely catchy and fun, in my opinion, and Dami’s parts, as well with Siyeon’s and Yoohyeon’s, are definitely my favourites. The only complain I have is that when the melody softens, the song kind of loses the grip it once had on the listener in the beginning. 

Jazz Bar (3:34) :  The title is completely appropriate as it truly feels like I’m listening to this song in a badly lighten bar, smoke clouds surrounding me, a wine glass in my hand, while watching these beautiful women perform a lovely song, calmly and elegantly singing. My biggest criticism with this track would be the fact that Black or White creates a lot of momento and excitement that is lost with the quietness of this song.

SAHARA (3:10) : I really wanted to like this song as, except for the chorus, this is something rather different from what they’ve done before, but I genuinely feel this track comes off as a bit messy and kind of cringy in my opinion. The best part for this song and for sure, the most epic of it, was from minute 2:45. The momento is slowly build up and things get cooler, to only end very shortly after.

In the Frozen (3:16) : The beginning of this song does not prepare the listener for the amount of noise that the track itself has. However, it can still be enjoyable. To be honest, the first time, I listened to this, I got a major headache from the chorus alone, but it’s still quite awesome and the vocals mixed with those sounds work just fine. Just like the previous song, it starts getting real good in the end, to just be ruined with this dubstep mess, sigh. I do not advise you to listen to this, if you are a bit sensitive as I am.

Daybreak (3:03) : Once again, a bit like Jazz Bar, this track breaks the mold of the album with it’s calm and soothing melody. To be fair, it was a genius take to put it after In The Frozen, as it will heal the headache you’ll get. Anyway, Daybreak is a good, cute and addicting song. The girls sing in a very delicate way as if they are almost trying not to hurt the one listening in some instances.

Full Moon (3:09) : This song is a bit of a Chase Me 2.0 in a softer light and I love it for that. I truly loved that song and I’m happy that sort of vibe and metal-ish sound is back in a track. I kind of wish that the song would have been a bit longer as I feel like it was rather short and could have been developed a bit more, but even so, the chorus and bridge sounded amazing.

Outro (1:03) : Compared to the Intro, this “last” track is much calmer. I believe it ends the album well, still having that eerie vibe that mostly followed each song here. 

Paradise (4:03) : I wanted this ballad to be much more than it is. As soon as I listened the first bit I was a bit unimpressed, but it grew a lot in me throught the many, many versions that were posted by HappyFace Entertainment on Youtube (White Version, Black Version, Piano Version and Original Version). The chorus can become quite tiring after a while, but I understand why many loved this song as Siyeon won the lyrics and beat very well with her vocals. My criticism goes mostly towards to how boring it sounds, despite the quick rhythm. It just feels very generic to me.

oh hmmmm... you know i love piri but honestly that music video is not one of my favorites. i think i’m leaning towards you and i or good night here. i love the scene where the ghost hunter dude’s room is exploding cause i guess the members are messing with shit on the other side of the mirror or whatever, but there’s just a shot of the dude and it’s slowly zooming out as stacks of paper and books and stuff go flying, it’s great. digipedi always makes fantastic videos

What concept would you like to see?

i have so many answers to this that idk if i can choose lol. anything lol, anything. they could do anything. i dont want them to lose the spirit of their concept and sound, but there are infinite directions they could take their concept without losing that spirit.

piri! i love deja vu though. piri was the song that got me into them and deja vu was my first comeback with them, so i have an attachment to both, but i would have to say piri, yeah

oh shit really? uhh idk if i can do that but... i mean i gotta say siyeon right? her voice *is* dreamcatcher to me. her voice defines their sound more than anything else, even more than their rock concept. like for real, her voice is more integral to the feel of a dreamcatcher song than the guitars or sort of dark vibe. well, her voice brings the dark vibe a lot of the time, honestly. after that i’d say jiu cause her voice is the total opposite, she has the voice you would least associate with a concept like this, but that serves to add a lot of range to their sound too. her voice is so vividly bright and cheerful... so, dreamcatcher’s dark concepts are defined by siyeon for me, and dreamcatcher’s lively personality and energy onstage and offstage are defined by jiu for me. those first lines of “wake up”? iconic, full of energy, aaaaaa i love her. after that i guess i’d say yoohyeon cause she’s the lead vocalist lol. and then... about the same for the rest. i dont have an order from then on. they’re one of the groups where i think it’s the easiest to tell which member is singing just from audio alone, all seven of them have distinct vocal characters. the only two that i sometimes mix up (again, just based on audio only) are sua and gahyeon. or dami when she sings lol

Dreamcatcher Notes or Vlogs

i tend to watch dreamcatcher notes more because there’s more going on a lot of the time, cause they’re like behind the scenes stuff. also.... there are some members whose vlogs im more likely to watch right away than others lol... though im working my way through all of them little by little so i’ll see all of them eventually. if jiu posts a vlog it’s immediate haha i’m on it immediately

jiu - already we’ve hit a really difficult one lmao. does blue/purple Jiu count since it was technically post-deja vu? i guess purple is now gonna be immortalized in their new comeback huh? i think actually i’ll say fly high. i think that’s the obvious choice but... idk, she doesnt have a bad era lol

sua - hmmm.... im having trouble remembering which eras were which for certain members... i know she had reddish purplish hair for piri right? i cant remember some of them though... like she didnt have as many drastically different looks as someone like siyeon or dami. maybe i’ll say good night though, purely because of her rap haha. EDIT: oh shit i looked at photos from the eras after all, and oh my god i forgot about you and i... nevermind lol scratch that, it’s you and i. those designs she had in her hair were super cool

siyeon - deja vu, specifically the part where she had short blue hair. amazing. flawless. legendary. stories will be told of those days

handong - her ‘what’ era is probably her most popular, but actually im gonna say deja vu. i liked her short blonde hair, it looks really good on her. the first thing that came to mind is her with that hair and those purple/black deja vu outfits... im thinking of some photos from some fansigns... yeah. 

yoohyeon - deja vu again lol, sorry about the recency bias haha. this is the era she viciously and savagely bias wrecked me. especially during those fanmeetings where she had a ponytail and was wearing a suit... oh my god lol she knew exactly what she was doing. they all know exactly how good they look in suits and they subject us to it as often as they can lol. her grey hair during you and i is iconic too, and the red she had during good night... but i think im gonna stick with my answer

dami - piri!!!!!!! oh my god!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! oh my god??? oh my god!!!! especially post-piri with her black hair??? fucuuucuckckckckckkckkkkkk dude she’s so handsome i could CRY. this current era we’re about to get is looking like a gamechanger too though... her hair’s kinda wavy and that look on her face in that first teaser... and her floral shirt... damn dude. honorable mention to you and i cause of the baton trick she’s famous for lol

gahyeon - now with gahyeon its actually pretty hard for me to say, she has had the same or similar hair in every comeback pretty much, right? hmmm. the things that immediately come to mind are good night and piri and i’m not sure why. actually i might be thinking of chase me? OH NEVERMIND okay i caved and i looked at photos from different eras and i forgot that she had green in her hair during fly high, okay yeah nevermind lol it’s fly high

What do you hope to see on their albums in the future?

what do you mean? like in terms of types of songs? uhhh.. idk.. most of the stuff i would say to this is stuff that i have no doubt will actually come. i want more bangers like piri and what, i want more edm stuff like sleepwalking and silent night, but yeah i’m sure we’ll get that. i guess what i’ll say is... more songs with involvement from the members. either in terms of composition or even just lyrics. though i like the composers and lyricists they have a lot! i’ll also say if nothing else, then a song choreographed at least in part by the members would be amazing. idk if it’ll happen for a title track, but if sua choreographs one of their edm bsides or something, and they perform it live on music shows, fuck...

each member individually??? that’s too time consuming woirjgeoiwrgew but i do have individual answers for all of them probably lol. especially yoohyeon, i wanna talk to her about languages. i’ll just say to all of them how much i appreciate them and how they arent boxed in by typical idol conventions, but they also arent boxed in as outside them either. like, they’re not an anti-kpop-group, they’re not the complete antithesis, they like being a kpop group and they like other kpop groups so they would never want to be that. i like how much fun they have, i like how close they are, i like how they treat their fans, i think if the fandom did something really awful or went too far i like to think they would feel comfortable letting us know. hopefully, anyway. more than most other kpop groups i’m aware of, it’s easy to find them in videos and vlives and stuff not being totally in idol-mode and just being people, and friends with their members. im not criticizing other groups, cause if i was in their position, i think i would have a hard time not being “on” when on camera, even if it’s just a vlive. maybe it’s because they’ve known each other for a lot longer than a lot of other current-gen groups, and they’re older than many of their current-gen peers too. they feel very earnest, they’re not trying to hide. im sure there are aspects to them that we dont know about and will never know about, and i hope that’s the case cause i hope they’re able to maintain some privacy in this job, but it’s not hard to tell when someone is being genuine and when someone isn’t, and i get a very genuine vibe from them a lot of the time. i’m glad they are who they are, they’re really influential and inspirational to me.  i.... also might wanna mention their support for lgbt people, though i would want to talk to them about that in private because it’s personal for me and risky for them and i know how shitty that situation is, especially since i know that they care and would be a lot more vocal if they could be. and they’re one of the most vocal groups about it already! i just want to thank them.

On KPOP

Okay. It's no secret that I like K-pop. My first ever experience was when I stumbled across Girls Generation's "Gee" video late one night whilst prowling the internet like the no-life nerd that I was in middle school. I watched it, was blown away, and moved on. At that time I had no idea that I had come across one of the most iconic K-pop videos of all time. I didn't even know what K-pop was. I didn’t really think about the video again until I was in my sophomore year of high school. That's when I met her.

Now, I wont get into much detail about her. She was, for the most part, a good friend. Granted, I don’t really remember much about our friendship, but I do remember that for that year at least we spent a lot of time together. 

Anyway, back to K-pop. She was absolutely obsessed with K-pop. She would always show me videos and I would watch with feigned interest as she babbled about how thin an beautiful each of the members was. I, at the time anyway, was preoccupied with my own thoughts of how cute this one boy from JROTC was (spoiler: he's a dick), so I didn't really pay attention to anything that she was saying. So I was so close at this point to getting hooked, but I wasn't quite there.

No, the hook came when I gave her my little iPod shuffle to download her library onto it. You see, I often get bored of the music I listen to on a daily basis so I need to get new stuff to listen to. So she downloaded her playlist and I gave it a listen. She introduced me to Marina and the Diamonds, Lana Del Rey, and, most importantly, f(X). When I saw the artist name f(x), I thought it was gonna be some math nerd bullshit. I was so, so wrong.   

Electric Shock by f(x) was the very first K-pop song I listened to and remembered. I remember it very vividly, I was on the bus going home from school and I was browsing the artist names when I decided "fuck it" and tapped on the math nerd bullshit name. The song started and I was left in awe. My mouth hung open in amazement. My first thought was "this isn't English". My second thought was "this is goddamned amazing". And for the rest of the bus ride home (and the rest of that week) I listened to that song on repeat. At that point, there still might've been a chance for me.

Now, it took me a few days before I finally caved and looked up the music video on YouTube. That's when it was all over. The music video had amazing visuals. Bright colors, awesome choreography, and bad ass outfits. I became obsessed. I watched all of their music videos, I learned all of the members names, and I learned more about them. And so began my spiral into the depths of the K-Pop fandom.

Unless you've been living under a rock for the past ten years, you'll know about YouTube and it's "recommended" sidebar on videos. You can literally just sit there and click away until you die. Anyway, YouTube recommended that I watch videos from other groups. I was a little hesitant, but you know I clicked that shit. That's how I got introduced to SHINee, Girls Generation, Super Junior, BIG BANG, and so on and so forth. (that's not all the groups, just the first ones)

These days it's so much more than just watching M/V's and interviews on YouTube. My entire life has been consumed. I follow every social media platform the group is on be it Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Vlive, Weibo, Snapchat, Kakao, EVERYTHING. Every goddamned tweet gets liked and rt, every Instagram post gets liked and commented on, EVERY VLIVE GETS THE AUTO CLICKER GOING ON TWO DIFFERENT PHONES WHILE I'M COMMENTING FROM MY LAPTOP. I order all of the albums that I don't have in sets if there's more than one version, buying official merchandise, and honestly I'm thinking about buying lightsticks even though I probably wont go to a concert anytime soon (because im poor and its hard to leave Alaska).

DO NOT EVEN GET ME STARTED ON COMEBACKS. JESUS FUCKING CHRIST THE COMEBACKS. UGH.

Pre-ordering each version, constantly posting, constantly checking SNS for updates, CRYING ACTUAL TEARS, counting down the days, waiting for concept photos and teasers, AND WHEN THE NEW MV DROPS AT 1 IN THE GODDAMNED MORNING WATCHING IT ON THE SIX DEVICES THAT I HAVE UNTIL THE WHOLE ALBUM IS RELEASED ON ITUNES AT 3AM, LISTENING TO THE WHOLE THING, CRYING AGAIN,  AND THEN WATCHING THE COMEBACK VLIVE AND GIVING THEM ALL I HAVE TO GIVE. 

And why? Why do I put in this much effort to support these people who will never know that I exist? 

There was a time where I kind of fell off the fandom wagon because I didn’t know why I was doing any of this (I was also SUPER depressed but whatever). I've given it some thought and I think I can explain.

I put in the effort that I do because I am lonely. And these idols, these artists, make the effort to connect with us, their fans. Watching their videos, seeing their posts, and hanging out during their live videos feels almost like spending time with an old friend. And spending time with them like this makes me feel less alone I guess. They become a familiar face to us, and they just bring a smile to my face. They work so unbelievably hard for us, to make their music, to spend time with us, to put on concerts all around the world, to perfect their choreography, while also following the rules that come with being an idol. And if they're going to put in that much work for us, we have to match them in their effort. Because they really deserve the world.

And beyond just the idols, there is also a deep connection between fans as well. We are a family. I know that there is often times a lot of drama in the K-Pop fandom, and that comes from the passion that is in each and every fan, no matter who their favorite group is. K-pop fans are some of the most passionate and fiercely loyal people you will ever meet.  And we all think that our group is the best group (I'll cover that in another post). 

Being in this fandom you will meet people from all around the world, from all walks of life, and you will have something in common: your love for your group. There is the common goal to support this group, to make sure that they know how much we love them in the only way we can; through the numbers. The more views, likes, and votes we can give them the more they'll know we love them. We're all in this together.

🐹I,,,really don't know anymore. Back when Hellevator came out and I read their profile I biased Felix but I already found Hannie nice nevertheless. A friend of mine biased him before she got wrecked by Jeongin and Chan and after that I started getting wrecked by him. In the I am WHO teasers I thought Hannie looks so good and when the mv came out I was completely in love with him. Seriously ask @taetaejagiyaaa95 I've always screamed to her about Stray Kids so she might remember when I started biasing him better than I do.😂

🐹...basically everything tbh. He's literally been born to make music. Like I stated above, he can even produce songs, write lyrics and he can also play the guitar. Despite that, I also love his voice very much no matter whether he's rapping, singing or talking. His tone is so calming and guys, go listen to his killing part in 어린 날개... it's literally a killing part. His English is also beautiful tbh and he should speak it more often.🤧 But one of the things that made me get attached to him the most is his caring nature. He may be loud and crazy and a cute weirdo but he can be serious when needed and when someone has a hard time he's always the first to offer his help and when someone is crying/sad, he immediately goes up to them and comforts and hugs them. He is also very dreamy and funny and overall a person you just can't help but fall in love with.

🐿Who would initiate skinship more?

🐹I feel like we both would. We're both very clingy people and I feel like if we were together we'd be cuddling nonstop. This is also the first time I've ever felt so strongly attached to a bias somehow... like I'm always craving to be able to cuddle him. Whenever he does something I'm like: "If I was there now, I'd just casually backhug him, observe the situation and be like 'don't mind me, I'll just cuddle you while you do your thing' and therefore never leave him alone". But I guess, since he's equally as clingy, he wouldn't mind and for some reason I think he brings out even more clinginess in me.^^

🐿Who would hog the blankets more?

🐹Probably him since I'd already be busy clinging on to him and therefore I wouldn't mind since I'd practically lie on top of him and cuddle him, so he couldn't rob me off our blanket anyway.

🐿Who would be more clingy?

🐹This is very similar to the skinship ask, so again, I feel like the both of us are equally as clingy. He also loves to give kisses and that's so adorable because the members always reject him and I'd be like: "Why kiss them if you could kiss me,,, helloooo? :(" 💕💖💞

🐿Who would be more flustered?

🐹Hmmmmmm...That's a hard one. I get flustered easily, especially when someone is/acts cute and he's literally the member with the most aegyo in the group and he's seriously acting cute nonstop. So he'd definitely get me flustered. But since I am one year older than him I'd also love to get him flustered so I could awww over him and cuddle him to death tbh. But I think I'd say I'd be flustered more I mean just listen to 3racha's track "WOW" in which Jisung raps about that hot noona he wants to date,,,, like uhm boy, you are giving me HEART PROBLEMS!!!! 🐹Okay I gotta be honest with you, I would be constantly backhugging this smol bean but I could imagine him wanting to be the one who cuddles instead of the one getting cuddled as well since he literally has so much love to give same baby same. I'd also love to just press him against me and hug him closely, so that I could just enjoy his warmth and feel the love without actually doing something...like I just want to hold him and I'd already be on cloud 9. So literally any cuddling position would be perfect as long as we'd cuddle each other, since I need that physical contact. And now I'm soft uwu😢

🐿What colors remind you of them and why?

🐹Red. Definitely. Not because it's his favourite colour, I just associate him with red and he's loud and energetic and he can be pretty aggressive, especially when rapping, so red, as being the colour of love, anger, and energy, fits him well in my opinion.❤

🐿Which season would you like to spend with them?

🐹I want to spend the rest of my life with him so basically any season. I know he loves winter because then you can cuddle inside when it's cold out so I'd definitely love to spend winter with him and just waste our days away cuddling and watching movies, nestled underneath a fuzzy blanket, drinking hot cocoa with marshmallows and feeding each other chocolate and then go eat cheesecake together.🍰

🐹He'd probably burn the kitchen down if he tried baking not gonna lie. 🐹We'd probably both do them but I'd say he'd do them even more than me and I'd purposely not react to them so he'd get aggressive (exactly like in their LieV) and end up pouting at me until I ask for forgiveness alongside showering his face in lil kisses.

🐿Who would want to adopt 50 dogs and cats?

🐹He'd probably get the dogs and I'd get the cats so now we're one big ass fluffy, four-legged, furry family.💕

🐹I always lean over railings because I like looking all the way down. I think it's so fascinating to see how high up you are and how small everything looks from such a position. 🐹Well, he likes horror movies and since he'd know I'm scared of them, he'd purposely want to watch them with me even more so he could protect me and have me cling to him for dear life. 5 YEARS WITH BTS (aka bangtan sonyeondan aka beyond the scene aka bangtan boys and bulletproof boy scouts aka b- let’s... let’s just call them bts lol) - A WAY TOO LONG POST ABOUT 1 GIRL’S LOVE FOR 7 DORKS

So I’m just gonna begin this by saying how proud of everything BTS has achieved, not just in the past year or so but in all 5 years they’ve been blessing us with their music...

Second thing I wanna say is that this post is LONG so.... I’m inserting a read more encase anyone aside from me from the future wants to read my rambles about a group of 7 dorks who stole my heart lol...

I discovered them roughly in the early to middle part of 2014, Boy in Luv being the first song I heard of theirs (Ithink... my memory’s kinda hazy lol) & I remember really liking the song (wasn’t as keen on the mv but yeah...)

(I also listened to Bulletproof pt 2 & No More Dream at some point & I really liked them... idk when that was but... yeah... I also vividly remember laughing at the No More Dream mv where RM’s introducing the members and he says Jungkook’s name really quickly at the end? As if he’d run out of space in the intro to fit his name in lol... like ‘shit i only have a second to fit Jungkook in quick gotta say his name real fast’ lol... maybe I’m the only one that finds that funny idk ANyWAy back to the story)...

Fast forward to August 2014 when Danger & the Dark and Wild album were realised, and lemme tell you how that Blew. My. Mind.

Danger was really unlike anything I’d heard in k-pop at the time... I loooooved the grungy/rock vibes mixed with hip hop, which perfectly matched the dark mv & aggressive but sharp dance moves... I just remember thinking ‘wow, these guys are really gonna go far if they keep this up’ (or something like that, guys it was 4 years ago I can barely remember what I was thinking 4 seconds ago let alone anything else lol)

Also, at that point in time I’d heard a lot of great k-pop albums (XOXO by EXO, Crush by 2NE1, Overdose (mini album) by EXO, Red Light by f(x), Mama (mini album) by EXO, etc etc) but genuinely, I was so impressed by this album, & immediately downloaded it despite knowing little to nothing about the group (only things I knew were that one of the members was called V, which i found hilarious lol) just because the music and the entire layout of the album was so brilliantly done!

(would like to mention at this point that my favourite tracks from Dark & Wild were Look Here, Rain and Let Me Know... 3 songs that are still some of my fav BTS songs tbh)

Fast forward again to 2015, maybe near the beginning? where I still didn’t know the members names (well, I knew Rap Mon (who could forget), V and I think I knew Suga... I was following a few blogs who were armies & they’d often use the members actual names so I was constantly like ‘WHO IS THIS YOONGI YOU SPEAK OF WHAT IS A YOONGI’ lol)... tbh idk when that changed, but at some point in 2015 I decided to sell my soul to BTS & officially became an army...

(i was technically a fan of them before, but I hadn’t dedicated much of my life to them at that point u know? there’s a fine line between ‘moderately like a thing’ and ‘SUDDENLY MY REASON TO BREATHE IS THIS THING’... & that line took about a year to cross in this case lol)

Fast forward (we’re fast forwarding to the interesting bits, since most of the rest of my actual life was really boring or really depressing lol...) to about August 2015 & we have my first artwork of BTS &, surprise surprise it’s of Jimin... (based on the Dope teaser pictures cos red haired jimin will always be legendary lbr)...

Anyway, you always know you’re gone for a group or artist when you start doing fanart, so through 2015 I probably did another 2? fanarts of Jimin & one of Taehyung (I also think I tried to draw Jungkook at one point but failed lol...)... The real Problem(tm) started in 2016.

I started the year with a Jimin fanart, and then went on to start a BTS series based on my fav songs by them... and then proceeded to not finish said series lol (story of my life)... BUT, in April of 2016 I did manage to finish a BTS series, based on the Young Forever mv (& the whole concept of that era) which I’m actually still proud of tbh...

Anyway, so 2016 was when I realised that I really like drawing Jimin... like...a lot.... & then 2017 I just continued that up until now (currently 12 of June 2018) I have drawn him 63 times, not counting traditional drawings or random sketches I’ve done..... I have a serious problem I know

Throughout that time I also made about 5 other BTS series (2 of which are based on the Wings solo tracks because they are the GREATEST tbh), as well as countless solo member (or duo member) artworks... so far I’m at about 140, but to be honest that will never be enough to express how much I love these guys... Unfortunately, as a fanartist, my art is really all I can do to express that love so... Cheers to another 140 eh?

So... what’s my point in writing this? Other than the fact I’m really bored & just felt like it?

Well, to be honest, I’m not gonna say that I’d be a shell of a person without them in my life or anything... I think I probably could’ve had an alright life if I had never decided to make my life’s work to draw Jimin at least 200 times before I die... In fact, maybe I’d be a more productive person? Maybe I’d socialise more or maybe I’d stop procrastinating revision so much idk... 

Regardless of those facts, BTS have given me so much inspiration, not just in my art exploits, but also in my own far off, completely unattainable dreams of becoming some kind of musician in the future... 

Music has always been an important part of my life (I actually gave up learning music academically because it clashed with German lessons... I gave up music for culture... now look at me... Ich bin sehr doof, ja?) but I never considered I’d be able to pursue it as more than just a part time hobby... Enter BTS, with their wide eyed determination and optimism, with their talk of dreams and working hard to achieve what you want in life... 

A group of crazy boys, with equally crazy personalities, with a mish-mash bag of talents, who came together in a small company, in a time when k-pop was becoming more and more competitive... And they just came out and did what they loved, they were unashamed to sing and rap about the issues they’d gone through, issues in their own culture and society, they sang about their passions and their loves, they sang about their regrets and the times when they felt hopeless... They’re completely honest, they make mistakes, they have flaws, but they’re proof that people can change and become better people when they’re educated about certain things! 

They’re not perfect, but that’s the point... 

They’re just us, a group of ordinary people who had a couple dreams, and tried their god damn hardest to reach those dreams.... And if I can live my life with even half of that level of enthusiasm and dedication, I know I’ll go far...

Thank you so so much BTS for making me consider new paths that my life may go, for not just settling with the comfortable or the mundane, for striving for something more, for something actually exciting... 

You’ll never know what you mean to me, or to any of army, but I will forever be grateful for the impact you unknowingly made on my life...

Dirty little secret - Chen

A new girlgroup was about to debut, 'Impression' was about to make it's first appearance with a cute concept, much to the girls disliking.

"I'm sorry Y/N, we can't change it. No matter how much the girls protest. You're supposed to keep them in check, not approve their disliking of the concept. It was chosen because I know you'll be able to make this great." Their manager said. Even before their teasers they had been protesting against the concept but because it fit their overall image they went with it. But now that the MV they were recording had turned into a high school girl pink explosion, the girls didn't seem to approve at all.

"I understand that this is our concept, but can't we do something slightly different? I mean we play all instruments, why can't we show that in the video?" She pleaded.

"I'll see what I can do." Was the last thing she heard before being dismissed.

As the comeback came closer and they were filming the MV they saw just how much their manager did. They were all wearing pink, seated in a pink bedroom or in a rose garden and they had one scene where the leader, Y/N, was playing the slower part on the guitar.

Their disapproval, however, was overshadowed by the success that they had after their first album. Weeks after their debut they had already formed a rather large fanbase, something they had never expected. To be honest, their expectations had always been low, seeing their sunbeas that had made it so far with their great amount of talent. Yet, here they were, a group of five girls with a ridiculous dream, actually getting somewhere much to everyone's amazement.

"Well done girls, I'm really proud of you, I hope you all know that. I think you've all practiced enough for today." Y/N said to the other members, allowing them to call it a day. Y/N went to sit down in the back of to room and grabbed her bottle of water, downing it in one go.

"Are you okay?" AeMin asked sitting next to her as everyone else was leaving. She was the only one older than her and a huge support to their leader.

"Yea, I'm fine. Just a little stressed." She chuckled, letting her head rest on AeMin's shoulder.

"Just have a little fun for tonight. Eat some chicken, I'm sure HyeJin wouldn't mind making you some." She joked

"I'm fine, I'm just going to practice  guitar some more and I'll see you in the dorm. You should go, HyeJin is probably waiting." Y/N laughed, shooing AeMin with her hand.

"Okay, okay. Don't overdo yourself. I'll see you later." She waved and ran after the other girls.

Silence had fallen over the SM building, few were training until the early hours on this Friday night.

Yet Y/N was still practicing. The slightly artificial sound from her electric guitar radiating trough the room as well as her heart. In times of stress her passion was the only thing there to sooth her. Callus had formed on her fingers from the rough strings much to the stylists disapproval but there was no way she'd see it as a bad thing. The hardened flesh felt like a trophy she earned for the long days and nights she'd spend practicing. The muffled sound of the guitar had attracted some attention from a particularly curious sunbaenim. He stood by the door watching her, listening to the music that came from the swift movement of her fingers. her straight pink hair hung in front of her face even though she had desperately tried to keep it tucked behind her ear. She was so engrossed in the music that she didn't even notice the man standing in the doorway until she stopped playing and he started clapping slowly. "Sunbae!" She quickly stood up and bowed to him. "I'm sorry if I startled you." He stated walking towards her. "Not at all." She chuckled awkwardly. "You're ... really something." "Ne?" She asked confused. "You're the leader of the new girl group right. 'Impression'?" He wondered and she nodded vigorously. "Well I think I got the wrong impression." He chuckled. "I'll officially introduce myself. I'm Chen." "Y/N" She smiled up at him.

They were surprised about what they found out about each other as they met up after practice in one of the practice rooms a few times a week. Sometimes he would just listen to her play while she struggled to keep her hair in check and other times they'd be joking around till late hours.

"Hey, Y/N?" He spoke up breaking the comfortable silence. They were seated on the couch in the back of the room, his head rested on her legs as she played with his hair. A position that had become quite natural for them after hours of tiring practice. Everyone would have left and they'd meet in the same room almost every evening. Y/N sighed and hummed for him to go on, tired from the long day that consisted of only dance practice. "What if we dated?" He asked casually, staring up at her. "What?!" She was suddenly wide awake at his sudden question. "Am I the only one that feels this way?" He sighed sitting up so they were now next to each other, eyes on the same level staring into each other.   "N-No." She said after a moment of heart wrenching silence. "But can we though?" She sighed looking down, breaking their gaze in the process. "Let's just keep it secret for now." He said, taking her chin between his fingers, lifting it up slightly. "Remember, dirty little secret." He chuckled, referring to the first time they met. "Chen." Her smile seemed more pained than anything, already taking away his hope. "We can't. Not yet anyway. Can we just continue as we were?" "Okay." He nodded,  placing his hand on his lap. "Come on, we should go. Otherwise the other members might get suspicious." He winked causing her to let out a light chuckle before standing up with him. He took her hand in his, pulling her along towards the exit.

Chen made it obvious that he wasn't giving up and trough the weeks after, they had become just that bit closer. In a way they truly acted like a couple but Y/N still had this fear in the pit of her stomach. She didn't even know what it was she feared but the fear alone was enough to keep her away from the commitment. One day Y/N and the other members of 'Impression' entered the SMbuilding to see a lot of commotion in the hallways. Some of the exo members were gathered around their friend that laid awkwardly against the wall. As they got closer Y/N realised who it was and she quickly ran towards him. "Oppa! Are you okay." She asked Chen without any thought, slightly shocking the others who were gathered around them. He nodded and she helped him sit up slightly and quickly took a handkerchief from her bag. "You're bleeding." She stated, trying to pat away the blood from his forehead making him hiss. "I'm fine." He said holding onto her wrist but his eyes were slightly squinted causing her to believe otherwise. "Come on, let's go inside so you can sit properly." She said grabbing him by the arm. Suho helping them as well. "Eonnie! I got you the first aid kit from the van." Their maknae said, running in with a large white box as everyone was now gathered in the practice room. "Thanks." she smiled at the youngest member before turning back to Chen. "How are you feeling? Dizzy, nauseous, anything different?" she asked him as she looked trough the box. Chen shook his head. "Headache?" again he shook his head, a bit more careful this time as she started to clean his wound. "Not at all?" "Just a little." he mumbled, staring up at her as she lightly stroked over the skin of his forehead. It had stopped bleeding which was a relief. "Does she know what she's doing?" Suho asked AeMin. "She studied nursing because her parent wanted her to. She may not look like it but she's great at it too. graduated top of her class." She answered.

"It doesn't seem like you have a concussion and you don't need stitches either but you should rest for today and see how you feel later on. If you start feeling dizzy or nauseous, you should go to the hospital." Y/N said while sticking the gauze neatly to his forehead. "You never fail to amaze me." He suddenly said quietly. "Ya!" she whisper yelled, her eyes widened as she felt everyone's eyes on the two of them. "We need to go practice. You rest!" She commanded, quickly walking out with the other members of 'impression'.

"So ... Oppa?" Said ShinHee as they walked towards their practice room. "Shut up. We're friends, that's all." "Sure, keep saying that and maybe someone might believe you." AeMin giggled. "You never fail to amaze me." HyeJin sighed dramatically, almost letting herself fall to the ground earning a smack from their leader. "Stop it!!" Y/N yelled in embarrassment, covering her face and rushing into the room. "Well at least now we know what she's been doing all those late nights." RenKa winked at the other members causing her to become an even brighter shade of red.

The teasing never stopped throughout the long day of practice. But that evening, after practicing for longer than usual, she was once again left alone to practice her instruments. Yet again, she was sitting alone, as one of the only people in the building, practicing guitar and cussing at herself for once again forgetting a hair tie. Suddenly she felt two hand running trough her hair, lightly pulling it together onto her back.

"Sunbae!" She said startled when she looked at who it was that stood behind her. "Just let me." He said, taking her soft hair into his hands once again, lightly brushing trough it before putting it up in a low ponytail. "You always forget to bring an elastic and then you're constantly frustrated so I thought I'd bring one." He chuckled before taking a seat next to her. "Sunbae, are you okay?" she asked, running her fingers lightly over his patched up wound. "I'm fine, but can you please just call me Chen." He said with a pained expression. "Sorry, Oppa." She smiled, slightly mischievous. "That's even better. Jagiya." He winked "Ommo." She said shocked and she looked around making sure no one saw them. "No one's here." He chuckled. She didn't answer, she just looked at him. fighting the urge to look down in embarrassment. She quietly observed his features in the dim lit room as he observed hers, captivated by one another.

"I'm sorry." He suddenly said, breaking the silence. "For what?" She wondered confused, her words merely coming out as a whisper, but before she had properly finished her sentence, his lips were pressed to hers. He was gentle and soft unlike he seemed and she finally stopped fighting her feelings as his touch took all her doubts away. She now knew what she feared, she feared loosing him, loosing what they had. So she promised herself to never let him go.

Who Is Next + Why + Full Teaser Order

There are two patterns that point to Suho or Sehun being next, with a slight possibility of Chen. If you combine the two or find their intersections the argument strengthens.

TL;DR for those who don’t have time to read below the cut: I theorize it’ll go like this: if Sehun is next (Sehun could have spoiled it during EXO’s V Live broadcast) then it’s going to be Sehun > Suho > Xiumin > Chen > Kyungsoo

First, let’s tackle the teasers, because they seem to override any teaser / “hint” things exo has done in the past such as the order of pathcode order and the name order on lotto (which is what some people thought was going to dictate the order this time around, but proved faulty when chanyeol’s teaser dropped). So, why was Kai first? Well it is by now tradition that he be first: MAMA debut teasers, Overdose teasers, Pathcode, first name at the end of Lotto, now this. (There were no daily-released individual teaser photos for Monster; SM dropped all the Lucky One photos in one day then all the Monster ones a different day.)

And it is by what little semblance of consistency and tradition that we can figure this all out.

And to really hit it home I went all the way back to the MAMA music video for this.

Recall that BBH’s teaser then followed Kai’s.

Chanyeol was very much evident in BBH’s teaser thereafter:

…And his teaser followed Baekhyun’s teaser.

As a side note, some people [1, 2] already highlighted the parallels between their teasers (and you bet your bottom dollar I’ll make a post about it – once more teasers come out and I have more information so I’m not just screaming nonsense into the void). For now, leave that thought in the back of your head, knowing that this may influence the order of the rest of the teasers. (FYI: I think there will probably be more parallels between other members.)

Sehun has been seen in all the teasers so far. In fact he’s the only one who has been in every teaser that has not had his own released (rip). Sehun was also the only member aside from PCY whose face one could even see clearly in PCY’s teaser. And in that same scene where Sehun is present, Sehun is running with Kai and Chanyeol (I did say clearly; look at how blurred nini’s face is):

And that running scene is also evident in Kai’s teaser:

So OSH might be the only one who really connects things; after all, why is pcy alone so much? Neither of the other two were alone in their teasers for most of the time. Sure they got plenty of solo time because I mean that’s what the individual teaser is for but seriously…

Bbh was with suho and the group:

and with Suho and Xiumin at the table:

So what gives?

Well, Sehun and his teaser might help us understand where the mv plot is going, and maybe SM wants to advance that help. But Suho’s could also help. Author note: sehun’s helped marginally, but Suho’s was a gift that continues to give.

So what about Suho? While he was not present in pcy’s teaser, he was present in everything else even if blurry and in the background. And if there is a song pattern to be deduced, so far we have harder + edgier song > more vocal-focused, softer song > harder + edgier …. with a vocal and softer song for the 4th teaser. The songs in the background also feature the audio of the focus of the teaser too, in case you haven’t noticed; e.g. kai’s voice is prominent in his teaser, bbh’s in his, and pcy’s in his. So if the next teaser will feature both a vocal and someone who has appeared clearly in a teaser before, suho is most likely. Author note: it’s clear there is no neat switching back and forth between vocally-strong and bass-strong songs but the songs do match the character of the subject’s voice and where their lines usually lie.

Short break to handle some counter theories and arguments to this: There was a post circulating saying that the next person will be Chen:

He definitely fits the song background pattern I pointed out and his teaser would interject a trend of originally exo k members, which would be a good way to balance the flow of teasers. However, it seems SM is officially nixing the exo k + exo m thing as part of their branding, as seen especially on facebook and the new SNS accounts stressing “we are one,” so this is likely not a concern for SM. On top of that, we haven’t really seen Chen in previous teasers (only teaser he appeared in up to PCY’s teaser is Baekhyun’s.) In keeping with the song pattern, it’s likely we’ll see Suho, Sehun, then Chen. You should re-watch Chanyeol’s teaser and note that Sehun’s voice is clearly heard in that song (probably entitled) “Chill.” He’s probably not going to have a softer song for his teaser. EDIT: He didn’t. But that’s not the pattern. MAMA is.

Not having seen Chen similarly works for why I don’t think Ksoo is next either; he hasn’t been visually present.(Ksoo might be last anyway if all the concepts are connected like I think they are, but again that is for another post.)

Moving on to how MAMA supports this…

First: why again did I pick MAMA of all things? Well EXO said themselves they’re returning to a time when they were younger, like children, so I decided to give re-watching MAMA a shot. Plus the initial Monster, Lotto and Pathcode stuff was failing pretty hard.

Thank God I did. This is quite possibly the key to everything.

If we look closely at this video and give MAMA the 100m views it deserves there is an ORDER to members truly revealing their powers that intersects with the order in which Kai teleports and crosses them. Kai of course being the teleporter he is, not only reveals his power first (!) but he transcends the worlds and locations of all the other members (!!) thus serving as a link between them (!!!) and setting off a chain reaction of members realizing their powers’ potential in the mv (!!!!) across both k and M (!!!!!) so that’s something to keep in mind.

He is first there and first in this teaser series’ order. Point one in the pattern marked.

Okay so how is Baek the second, you ask? Well consider this: perhaps it’s the order in which a member “demonstrates” his power after the time Kai visits them and thus allows them to realize their power. While PCY was trailing flames early in the video, before Kai Teleported to him, nothing truly clicks with any member in K or M until Kai poofs by them. Imo he would be at best second always because that’s the tradition SM established with teasers, so that takes precedent.

Baekhyun is the “second” (3:04): 

The reason Chanyeol is the third rather than later in the series has basis in several factors: 1) he had a bit of a jump given that he was … honestly sort of “leaking” powers early in the video; 2) going back to my first argument about teaser order, they were going to alternate song styles; 3) and Chanyeol precedes Sehun again due to 1) and due to the fact that Jongin came by him first. 4th, going by this order, is 100% either suho or sehun. EDIT: It’s clear that SM considered Sehun to precede Suho and likely for the reasons stated below.

One could say it’s Suho at 3:33:

But one could suggest that it’s Sehun, who appears just a few seconds earlier at 3:27. EDIT: SM went for this.

Despite the fact that he’s not really… “doing” the wind thing until later in the video, something seems to click with Sehun at 3:26.. but again he’s not really exhibiting the power until whereas Suho begins to at 3:33. For reference, Sehun does so at 3:40: (Edit: this doesn’t matter so much since SM took sehun to be preceding suho)

Now this next part… really gonna makes my head hurt if it’s right in predicting exo’s teaser order. The order in which different members sing might have a part in it. Vocal line goes Baekhyun > Suho > Kyungsoo and the rap line (at the time !! at the t i m e !!) goes Kai > Sehun > Chanyeol. If we merge the previous lines of argumentation, it makes the most sense that PCY would be first, especially since he has the parallel with Baekhyun and it already seems Sehun is becoming a unifying piece this comeback rather than Kai (!!!). The parallel thing is important because of the mirror and same-ground-different-skies synch between xiumin x suho and chen x kyungsoo.

Next let me explain how (former) exo m members fit into this. 

We all know it’s difficult to fully extrapolate anything from M versions because 3 are gone, so it messes up any kind of original order/schema, BUT it clearly goes Chen > Xiumin > Lay when you take out the other members

EDIT: I’m officially nixing the idea of vocal patterns in the teasers. The album of course wouldn’t be half one son and half another; the album has much diversity.

The biggest thing here, between K and M, is that Suho has a link to Xiumin and Kyungsoo to Chen:

So we might see them appear in the teaser order in a way that connects that relationship! (I will get back to this in the “additional thoughts” section.)

Why is Kyungsoo last, you ksoo stans ask? He did conclude Pathcode, yes, but I am inspired by the idea that the end is the beginning. (Also alluded to here and mentioned here .) 

In the beginning of MAMA, Kai teleports from Kyungsoo first and it’s the only time he teleports and leaves white smoke. (No seriously: to and away from kyungsoo are the only times kai teleports with white smoke. The rest of the time is black smoke. Even Luhan and Chen in M version see black smoke in his wake. )

Ksoo represents the beginning and the end; he is the last member in K to demonstrate powers and he is seen at the end paralleled with Chen (standing on the same ground but having different skies :~) ) and he is the last person we see in #Pathcode.... Plus, it seems like, contrary to most other members, he operates on a level of grounded reality while the others have issues with theirs; the dream vs reality thing became a prevalent theory among fans (including myself; don’t go looking for my posts though they are long and ugly) during Pathcode, and especially Lucky One. Retroactively in 2016, fans thought LMR was unreality as well. (Lucky One and Love Me Right were both likely *not reality*... I’m just throwing that out there.)

Kyungsoo’s power is strength but he also has a sense of grounding. His power is not one that can just be … shut off in the sense of oh he “can’t strong” like “kai can’t teleport due to this external force” or “chanyeol can’t produce fire due to the same force.” It doesn’t make sense (barring a situation where he deals with kryptonite and he’s superman). 

It is possible that he is strong in two senses: physically and mentally. He perhaps has the mental strength to tell dream from reality and snap out of it whereas other members may not be able to, and his isn’t a power that’s physically demonstrable apart from that scene in MAMA where he made a crater in the middle of the street. 

But in pathcode he seems to be operating on a mental level: the marbles, the gazes the spinning top, the scenes that seem to cut back to other members’ teaser scenes … Kyungsoo continues to operate on a separate level even in Monster too: He’s on top of the security cameras before the conflict in the Monster MV:

..AND HE’S STILL THERE WHEN BAEKHYUN TURNS OFF THE SECURITY CAMERAS AT THE END to “save” the members in the car:

 why do we not talk about this, again? Kyungsoo now seems to be a sort of alpha and omega figure and so I will not be surprised in the slightest if he is last. EDIT: In fact, I expect it. He should be last unless SM wants to prioritize K members in teaser order.

So to summarize:

EDIT: The thoughts in the “additional thoughts” section came to fruition for reasons I described above, so let’s just move on to that for summary.

Some additional thoughts:

As a special consideration, since we owe Oh Sehun much more than we gave him credit this comeback season… he did say he would dye his hair again on “Wednesday” during EXO’s V Live broadcast. After all his hints from the past few weeks, and the teasers visually including him so much so far, he could very well be next! It would nix the idea of song styles alternating neatly, but that’s fine. Suho and Chen would still be likely to follow, followed by Xiu and Soo in some order. EDIT: As I predicted, Suho followed Sehun. 

Returning to a previous point re: MAMA to address what that order might be... Suho had the link to Xiumin, and Kyungsoo had one to Chen. Although we don’t see this reiterated, it’s possible that, if Sehun did hint that he’s next(edit: obviously we know he did now) we will see them alternated to being ordered Sehun > Suho > Xiumin > Chen > Kyungsoo. If Sehun was just joking (who knows with EXO anymore …. Baekhyun did spoil his own teaser during that broadcast too) and this aspect of MAMA is addressed, I still believe we could see Suho > Sehun > Chen > Xiumin > Kyungsoo, but if they really care about preserving more links to MAMA, Sehun will be up next anyway because they are so clearly maintained via the “Sehun > Suho > Xiumin > Chen > Kyungsoo” line. It’s like all the progression through K and M finally wraps around to Kyungsoo in the end and I’m emotional about that.

I guarantee you that if osh, kjm, or kjd is right then according to this, we can predict the rest of the members’ order and know a good chunk about the upcoming MV’s plot as well.

02. DNA: so…right off the bat, of course, I loved it. 

With time I’ve learned to literally not expect anything of BTS but also expecting it all they’re incredibly unpredictable when it comes to new sounds/experimenting so when I heard the whistling/guitar stream from the teasers I was like ?? uh ok ?  but idk I didn’t think about how that could go on (I was more immersed in visuals with teasers and bighit usually teases us by playing something completely differentso I really didn’t think about music then) NOW, AS I’VE SAID BEFORE, DNA IS SERENDIPITY’S HIGH ON LSD OLDER SISTER. how can you make two songs about the same theme (universe, destiny, love) but to make them sound completely different? And have a TOTALLY DIFFERENT VIBE? MAKE YOU FEEL SUCH DIFFERENT THINGS BUT AT THE END COMUNICATING THE SAME MESSAGE? Pure love and trusting destiny that you’re meant to be together. Bangtan did that.

Now, with that unpredictable thing I was talking about: I did NOT expect such a bubbly song. SUCH A POP SONG. Like for real they always do that, they go against the tide? Kinda? I’m so far up their ass but really I was expecting something different? Idk more serious? But they said “nah listen we got you fam this is gonna be a pop song you’re gonna love” and they delivered just that and now I’m gonna wait for groups to follow this trend – back to super pop songs please

Favorite parts: (I’m a little biased about this bc of the visuals in the mv but it comes as a whole package how can I not be biased?)

Tae starting the song – bighit heard the prayers I’ve been making since 2014

TAE STARTED THE SONG WITH HIS LOW AND DRIPPING HONEY VOICE AND THEN HERE HE COMES HOBI WITH HIS SHARP AND MUCH HIGHER RAP AND I’M LIVING FOR THE CONTRAST

Harmonies – as always in bts’ songs on point – and I’m talking about those reaaaaaally deep back up harmonies you really don’t catch the first couple of times you listen to the song but they’re there and trust me it makes the difference from an okay song to a bts song

The (dubstep kinda) drop took me back to the first time I heard I NEED U and I fell in love with the contrast back then and I still love contrasts like that ;;;;;;;;;;

When spring day came out in february I kept repeating yoongi’s part in the second verse over and over and HE’S DONE IT AGAIN “I want it this love, I want it real love” that’s all I hear when I’m alone with my thoughts.

I absolutely love the bridge :’) vocal line :’) jin and the boys :’)

Of course, and if this isn’t one of your favorite parts we can’t be friends: Hoseok’s ending bit LA LA LA LA LA I love him and deserved spotlights

03. Best of Me: okay honestly I was prepared to not like this song. I was ready to be :/ about it…. We know why chainsmokers But I was soooooo happy with the beat drop in the chorus it’s just… so pretty? So sweet? Boys I knew you were soft but not like this. And after reading the lyrics I just absolutely love it (actually, thinking about it, I would have expected the title track to be THIS kind of sound and theme instead of DNA lmao) 

I think the chorus might get repetitive towards the end of the song but the rap keeps it balanced so as always I’m thankful for rap line. Did I mention the lyrics are literally poetry? Okay, they are.

04. Dimples:  this is exactly what I wanted when they announced the album was gonna be based in youth and love? A silly love song. THIS IS WHAT I WAS HERE FOR. Silly love songs about the silliest things…….. I’m a lil bitch but I would have wanted rap line in this :( but okay vocal line was literally perfect AND AT THIS POINT IN THE ALBUM I ALWAYS REALIZE TAEHYUNG HAS GOTTEN SO MANY PARTS IN SONGS AND IM  A L I V E like I really think he’s pretty balanced with Jimin’s parts? and that’s amazing.

05. Pied piper: this was the first song that made me completely lost it because of how good it was I was jumping up and down my bed at 6am like ?????? bts getting me turnt at 6 am???? and as it progresses you hear this talk box sound in the background??? (fun fact: one of my favorite bands back in highschool was Chromeo and that talkbox was their trademark and it just took me back to good old Chromeo songs) and the talkbox gets stronger and stronger and I just LOVE IT

I want to think Yoongi had to do with the talkbox but idk he played it in one of those puma adds last year lol I’d think he knows what those are and wanted to experiment a little bit (i don’t know who was more involved in songs this time so idkidkdikd) 

Interlude – before yoongi’s rap starts he dares whispering his name. im okay

Now, without lyrics this song was great but when I read the lyrics I McFucking Lost it. How could they do this? How dare they come to my house and talk like this to me????? in my face???? In my own house???? God they’re so right tho???? And now the talk box and the little chants fucking make so much more sense is indeed like the rhythm is taking over the song / taking over me lmao 

I might be weird but… going back to suga whispering his name… I’m pretty sure they made their parts a little bit sexy on purpose? like to allure us and shit or is it just me? suga + hoseok in the second verse (also tae) sound so sexy? idek if it’s ME LOSING IT but uh  yeah

MIC Drop: I remember when I heard this my first thought was like HOLY SHIT ROCK? bc of the little bit of electric guitar they had going on but then it went to their usual hiphop style anyways HOLY SHIT THIS SONG IS BOMB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! idk what else to say really it’s everything I expected of this song

07.고민보다 Go: this is my jam. Period. There’s no more to say. My jam without lyrics MY JAM WITH LYRICS. I’m a poor sad child and this is my song for when I go out eating and spend the money I need for other shit in only food

08. Outro: Her: This song is so pure? I suck at words but they as always said the most honest thing they could have said? I really cried with Yoongi’s verse :( I love him so much I want him to be happy that’s it woah I’m getting carried away. OKAY I remember the first time I heard it without lyrics or anything I thought it reminded me of their older style like… Skool Luv Affair more specific? It really reminds me of that era – AND NAMJOON SAID IT HIMSELF IN THEIR VLIVE is more like their old rap style  :’)

downs: in general I think they could have done with a little bit less autotune in some parts (in dna and pied piper and i guess other songs but I can’t remember) but idk anything about music so it might have had a very different result without the autotune ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

that canon compliant one sided 2min drabble — minki, m.ea

high on the list of things minki doesn’t do: fans, guys with facial hair, and feelings. maybe it’s not entirely correct. he can do feelings in moderation, but none of the soft flower petal shit that accompanies love. none of sparkles and orchestral music in the background and the rapid beating of his heart when he looks at hwang minhyun.

( he’s so fucked ).

it starts with 2min. minki doesn’t half-ass anything, and if he’s going to bait thirsty fangirls on stage and off, he’ll do so with all his effort. sometimes he forgets that it’s all an act, that he isn’t really in love with minhyun and they’re not really a thing, but idols blur the line between fiction and reality all the time. if he feels the urge to slam minhyun against the wall while they’re arguing and shut him up with his mouth, or if he wants to slip his hand into minhyun’s while waiting to go on stage, it’s the fanservice feelings blurring his thoughts. or he’s lonely and wants to buy into the idea that he could date a guy like miracle era’s icy prince.

because minhyun is straight. he has to be, though minki jokes otherwise. he’s safe as long as minhyun is a distant star. 

but minhyun accidentally sends a text meant for his boyfriend in the hyungline group chat one day and minki drops his phone on his face because hwang minhyun is not straight and hwang minhyun has a boy toy (that isn’t minki). suddenly nothing makes sense. minki’s heart rips in two because he’s frustrated—by both the new possibilities and the lack of them. minhyun likes guys, but he doesn’t like minki. they’ve been in a group—they’ve been fucking trainees together—for so long and minhyun never once looked at him in that way.

minki is a job to him and whoever minhyun’s boyfriend is, is pleasure.

and he doesn’t expect to feel a stabbing, sharp pain in his heart, like the twisting of a knife, as he types out a nonchalant response and exits out of kakao. he doesn’t expect to stiffen as they end up spooning in the same bed again because minki has nightmares and minhyun’s arms are something like a safe harbor.

minki didn’t think he had feelings for minhyun because he never thought there was any chance of minhyun returning his feelings in that way. that there apparently is and yet minhyun doesn’t like him anyway stings. 

all minki has ever wanted is to be liked by people, and what he does with those feelings is a different story, but minhyun is one of the only fucking people who’s never looked at him with desire in his eyes. he’d come to terms with it when he thought minhyun couldn’t. 

but now he feels discarded, rejected without a single word.

he doesn’t want this.

he pulls away from the fanservice a bit, hypes up kenki instead of 2min, pretends it’s because of their upcoming concert stage together and not his own complicated feelings. minhyun notices his distance but never explicitly asks him why or why not, and minki ignores the silent questions he sends over the dinner table in favor of laughing too loudly at kenta’s jokes or feeding daehwi food off his plate. he’s not subtle about it (maybe he doesn’t want to be) and he can sense the others’ worry. but minhyun’s quiet acceptance of whatever is going on (and he’s so goddamn unconcerned) keeps them silent for the most part.

kenta almost asks him about it after practice once, but minki shakes his head and curls up against him, resting his head on kenta’s shoulder. “don’t, hyung,” he says, pulling on the hem of kenta’s sweatshirt. truthfully, minki doesn’t know what to say or how to explain it. 

maybe he gets lucky, because kenta doesn’t pry, just pats him on the head and says, “take your time.”

even the maknaes notice and bring it up while minhyun is in the shower and kenta is filming for a variety show. “are you mad at minhyun hyung?” seonho asks, wide eyed and nervous, and minki shakes his head because he’s not. he’s mad at himself.

but daehwi asks the more perceptive question. “do you hate him?”

and here minki laughs—barks, really. “a little.” it’s not the answer he wants to give. hate means he feels something at the end of the way when he’s really hoping for apathy, and minki is tired of it. “but you know, hate and love are almost the same sometimes.”

daehwi nods slowly and minki wonders if this is another thing he shouldn’t have taught him.

the distance leaks beyond the dorms and into schedules. it’s a dumb variety show, one of those boyfriend-girlfriend skits, but minki flinches away from minhyun’s touch, panicking that his face will betray him. the moment is giffed on twitter. fans speculate, shippers fret, and minki drops an assurance in the fancafe that 2min is not dead with a lump in his throat because he needs to get over himself and do his damn job.

( he apologizes to minhyun for it later. “i dunno, i was having a bad day,” he lies.

minhyun blinks at him, then shrugs. “it’s fine—i’m not offended that you can’t fake being in love with me for one day.”

minki laughs, and laughs, and laughs until his throat hurts ).

he builds himself back up bit by bit, learns to condition his responses. it’s a slow process but at least minki isn’t obvious about it anymore, though kenta’s concerned looks flood him with guilt still. he can’t help the way he feels, but he can help the way he acts and he’s determined--

then the comeback concept is announced, and minhyun gives him a bemused smile from across the table. “former lovers, fight choreography… 2min is alive, huh?”

minki smiles, all teeth. “hope you’re prepared.” his hands shake under the table.

and it’s not fair, he thinks. their concept is designed to slay their fans, but minki feels like he’s choking on his own blood instead. they dye minhyun’s hair blonde, put them in peasant shirts and chokers and circle contact lenses. the music video filming is brutal and too close for comfort; none of minki’s longing gazes are faked and the director comments on what a good actor he is. “i’m a professional,” he smirks, but.

there’s nothing professional about being in love with your group mate.

the teasers drop, the mv drops, the comeback stage happens, and the fandom collectively goes insane. there’s new 2min fanart and fanfic every day, new fansites decided to the two of them. every variety host asks about their choreography and minki’s muscles hurt under the strain from his fake smile. during their second week of promotions, he’s in the waiting room with his cheek pressed against the wall and minhyun gives him a tap on the shoulder, concern hidden behind an impassive expression. “you okay?” he asks, and minki reminds himself it’s because minhyun is leader and this is his role.

but minki wants his concern to be for him alone, because minhyun cares and not because of his job. he’s selfish and greedy and wants too much from someone who can’t ever give it to him. maybe this is how he destroys himself, piece by piece. 

he turns his head to look minhyun in the eyes and almost says, i love you and i’m tired of it. but minki swallows the words, swallows the feeling, and gives minhyun a quick smile. “’course i am,” he says. of course he is, and even if he’s not, he can pretend.

minhyun’s mouth softens. “hang in there,” he says, clapping minki on the back.

his fingers curl, uncurl. “yeah.” hang in there, like he has a choice.

it’s okay, minki tells himself, it’s okay. he won’t have minhyun, but he has this: 2min, their stage, their song, their act. and it’ll have to be enough for him.

at the end of the day, it’s just another lie he tells himself.

BTS Wings Tour Anaheim (4/1/17)

I know this is like 2 weeks late but I’ve been busy since the concert so anyway....

This will be an in-depth description of one of the best concerts of my life. Read more after the cut! (I even put some pictures I took!!!)

I’ll begin with the ticketing process. I was minding my own business on my way to work with my mother on November 18, 2016 when Big Hit decided to drop the Wings Tour video.

I was shocked!!! Amazed!!! Taken off guard. I was in the car and actually sat there and used up some of my data to watch this the first time. I had figured BTS was doing a world tour in 2017 but Big Hit is evil and I thought they would give some more warning. I thought wrong. Back to the trailer... I absolutely LOVE the remix of Interlude: Wings that was used. I watched that video repeatedly throughout the day. I’m still salty at Big Hit for only adding Outro: Wings to You Never Walk Alone vs. Outro Wings AND the remix. (I could also go into how Big Hit needs to release the MV teaser version of Blood Sweat & Tears but alas...). I had decided right then and there (actually before this) that I was going to try with all of my power and within a reasonable price range that I was going to make it to the Wings Tour. I was determined, KCON LA in 2016 was just not enough!!! I knew BTS would come to somewhere in California, be it Staples Center in downtown LA or Honda Center in Anaheim. I know they locations were settled by then but that DID NOT stop me from tweeting Big Hit hoping that they would be at Honda Center instead. (I experienced the evils of Staples Center and having to buy tickets via AXS. NEVER AGAIN TBH). 

I waited for days and Big Hit finally started releasing tour dates and eventually days when tickets would go on sale. As expected, BTS was coming to Anaheim. I thanked Big Hit and the high heavens that it was Honda Center. I only had to deal with Ticketmaster, nothing else! I underestimated the amount of people that were hellbent on buying tickets for the Newark shows. After seeing people talk about how fast the first show sold out, I was highly worried I wouldn’t be able to get my Anaheim tickets. I was stressing! So I did the only logical thing, when Powerhouse released the second set of Newark tickets, I tried my hand and attempting to get a pair. I wasn’t going to  be buying them, but I wanted to see how the process went. I had seen people talking about using the Ticketmaster app vs. the website so I had everything set up and ready to go. I’d like to say that I was extremely lucky because when those Newark tickets went on sale, I was actually able to snag two. I didn’t pay of course and let them go, but it quelled at least a little bit of my worries for when I had to buy my tickets later in December. 

The day had come. December 14, 2016. I was prepared to buy my tickets. Unfortunately because of times zones, I was at work when the tickets went on sale BUT my supervisor is an angel. I had told her the week before that I needed to take my break earlier during my shift so I could focus on buying my BTS tickets. She agreed! So there I was, sitting at the desk nervously waiting for the time to tick down. I had already had a Ticketmaster account with my credit card connected so that just made everything that much easier. I did have my mom also log in on her computer and phone and wait just like me. I had read from a few people that within the last minute or so of waiting, they began refreshing the Ticketmaster page and actually got to buy their tickets about 20 seconds faster than the allotted time. I also had read that people going to the second to cheapest tier of tickets (P4) had issues getting what they wanted because the seats were more limited compared to other levels. I was aiming for P4 because that’s where I sat for BigBang’s MADE Tour and it was a good view. With this info in mind, I bit the bullet and decided that I would go for P2 tickets instead. A whole $100 more but I didn’t want to have to pay more from scalpers later for any other section. So there I was, sat at the desk refreshing the Ticketmaster page every 3 seconds until the time came to buy them. I benefitted from the tip of refreshing because just as another ARMY had stated, I got my two tickets right before the actual time came. I WAS SO HAPPY! I had gotten two P2 tickets that were four rows from the general admission standing area as well as close to the extended stage!!! My mom tried and actually got two more tickets but we didn’t end up buying them for obvious reasons (and they were the elusive P4 tickets!). In my excitement I think I just listened to Interlude: Wings (and the rest of Wings tbh) and danced around for the rest of the day, I was excited!!!

In the months leading up to April 1, we got everything else together...not in a timely manner though lol. I love my mother and she has taught me many things including how to procrastinate. We probably could’ve gotten slightly cheaper plane tickets but it’s all water under the bridge now. We got plane tickets and booked our car and hotel and we were set. In the week before the concert I began my normal ritual of listening to the group’s entire discography. I did go back and find the Wings Tour setlist and listened to that exclusively in the few days prior. I also played the tour specific playlist for my mom just to reacquaint her with every BTS song I’d already had her listen to previously. 

Fast forward to Saturday, April 1, 2017. The day of the concert. I had wanted to take the day off of work, but my mom (who I work with) didn’t want to miss out on getting paid that day, so we went to work. We were the from 7:30 am to 2:00 pm. We had already preplanned everything and were already packed and ready to head to the airport. Flying with carry on only luggage is such a breeze AND we ended up getting TSA Pre Check so it literally took us about 5 minutes to get through everything and on to our gate. We flew into John Wayne Airport because duh it’s way closer and our hotel was literally down the street. We got to our hotel, changed our clothes, and headed out around 6:30-6:45? I had read that at the Newark and Chicago stops the doors were opened earlier so I didn’t expect there to be much of a line. My mother took this to mean that we could leave later, but whatever at this point. We were SHOCKED that there were still a bunch of lines around outside. I know there other cool stuff to do around the venue but I my precious time was running out! After waiting in line for about 20 minutes we finally made it in. My mom had drank some coffee before we left the hotel (bad decision tbh) and had to use the bathroom but I was worried that the concert was going to start. We decided to find our section then she would go back. We passed the life-sized BTS cutouts and I should’ve listened to my mom and taken my pictures then, but I was desperate ok! We found our seats at about 7:55 and the concert started at 8:05. Once I had gotten to my seat the kind ARMY volunteers were still handing out the bags for the Fire ocean and Rainbow ocean projects. I didn’t have an Army Bomb or buy one (I’ll keep that $60 for something else tbh) but I promised myself I’d actually participate and use my phone flashlight. My mom returned from the bathroom and once again commented on the fact that everyone was screaming at the music video (LMAO but I agree) and then... the lights went down! 

From this point on I think I’ll make each song it’s own paragraph...

As previously stated I knew what song was coming anyway,  but still. The first VCR came up with ensuing screams and then... Not Today! I have a love and less love relationship with this song. It sounds so noisy sometimes but then others I can’t get enough? And listen to it or watch the MV on repeat? Anyway, BTS started the concert on the main stage, which wasn’t like exceedingly far from me, but not the closest either. I liked the live performance etc etc. I was sufficiently whelmed at this point lol. Also this was the beginning of the assault on my eardrums. The screams were SO LOUD. My mom had randomly put some earplugs in her purse and she already had to use them. 

Next was Am I Wrong. I actually really like this song, but didn’t like the choreography all that much. I had watched some of the music show performances but I was still meh. (Maybe it’s because I get tired of music shows and watching the same choreo in different outfits for 4 weeks lol). Anyway I didn’t now what I was expecting buy actually seeing the choreo made me love it soooo much! I’m sorry for distrusting you Son Sungdeuk, it’s great! 

On to Baepsae/Silver Spoon/Crow Tit/what have you. One of my favorites! I will just say that I love this song and the choreo... so many hip thrusts but I love. If you didn’t know, my absolute, unwavering, all time favorite is J-Hope aka Dance King Jung Hoseok. He was being very rude during this song and I don’t appreciate it!!! I felt so attacked! He killed his end segment, I need to find a video of his gloriousness. 

It was Dope when I realized that BTS was using live band audio. And for that I am eternally grateful. I figured there wouldn’t be a live band but I’m glad they used the recording from the Seoul concerts because BTS + live band is better than any studio recording (for the most part) and I love. I absolutely love the guitar in this and I was not disappointed. Anyway, Dope was dope. I had already seen them perform this at KCON and seeing it a second time live was just as good as the first. After writing about Baepsae I’d just like to say that Jung Hoseok was incredibly rude during Dope as well. He can’t just do a simple hip thrust. I had watched fancams from previous stops and during the hip thrust parts he did these really small controlled thrusts and man. I was dead! He’s gotten so bold since Blood Sweet & Tears came out and I’M SUFFERING!

After Dope was the second VCR. I need to find video of it and all of the VCRs because the music in this one was great! I hope and pray that Big Hit uses the music from the VCRs in actual BTS music but I won’t hold my breath. I’ll just tweet at Big Hit and Hitman Bang with my wishes which will go unheard. 

After the VCR ended, it was time for the solos to begin (no pun intended lol). It started off with Begin, Jungkook’s solo. I love this song and it’s actually one of my top favorites from Wings. I wanted to be at least a little surprised about some of the performances since I had already spoiled the setlist for myself, so I didn’t watch any fancams of the member solos. I knew Jungkook was going to dance the whole time but I was still blown away? The footwork was so intricate and he was doing all of that AND singing live. He was wonderful. I honestly stood there and had THE BIGGEST smile on my face the whole song. I don’t really have a bias list for BTS but after the concert he’s definitely in my top favorites with Hoseok and Yoongi now.

Lie. Oh Like. Jimin did such a good job. I had actually seen little snippets of it, but I wasn’t ready. After seeing his outfit, I was offended. That low cut shirt and his collarbones were too much!!! Lie was great. I particularly loved the part where the backup dancers lifted him up. I had promised myself I wouldn’t take too many pictures/video because what’s the point of enjoying a concert through a phone screen (I am a terrible multi-tasker ok) but I tried to get a picture of when they lifted him up. I don’t think it turned out that well but whatever. At the end of the song my mom told me that she had really liked Begin and Lie. Success!!! 

Next was Yoongi and First Love. I know it’s more of a chill song so I was wondering what he’d do for his solo stage. I expected Yoongi to come out and stand while rapping and there would probably be a piano. What I wasn’t expecting was for the stage platforms to rise with 4 string instrument players!? I was shocked!!! Yoongi did fantastic and I really loved the strings. I was watching someone’s fancam later and they pointed out that towards the end it was either the strings or the recording but So Far Away’s music was playing in the background. How perfect tbh. I enjoyed it!

The next few songs are part of my favorite parts of the concert! (I’m not kidding. Lost, Save Me and I Need U are some of my top BTS songs). It was finally time for the extended stage to be used in all of it’s glory. Our seats were on the side of our section closest to the extended stage so we could see when the platform would lower for BTS to get ready for their next performance. The platform rose again and out popped Jin, Jimin, Taehyung, and Jungkook to bless us with Lost. Once again, I didn’t watch fancams minus a few seconds so I didn’t really see all of their choreo. I love Lost and the choreo for it was cute and not overly taxing, which I liked. 

Save Me. My ultimate favorite BTS song. I was blessed with being able to see Save Me at KCON but this time it was on the extended stage so I was so close. I about died at this point. My favorite song with them only 50 feet (I don’t know really I’m just making this up ok) in front of me where I can actually see their facial features etc. Magical. I, along with most other people in the venue, sang our hearts out. It was great. 

I Need U was next. If I say that Save Me is my ultimate favorite, I Need U is next. It only got bumped to second because of Save Me tbh. For some reason I had read the setlist wrong at first and had left I Need U out of my tour setlist playlist and I was bumming myself out for no reason lol. Like I was sitting there thinking how could life go on with me seeing BTS in concert but them not doing I Need U. Then I looked it up again and got myself together lol. I know the crowd was hype for the whole concert but there was just something about I Need U that seemed really special. I have watched so many videos of I Need U performances but it took this concert with the extra backup dancers to really understand one part of the choreo. Towards the end when Jungkook I think is in the middle and everybody falls down around him. It really looks like a flower opening up/blooming. How I managed to not notice this before, I’m not sure but I thought that part was especially awesome. Once again, thank you Son Sungdeuk for you superior choreography. 

I feel like there as a VCR at this point. I was trying to keep a note open to keep track of stuff like this but I gave up after Dope lol. Anyway if this is correct VCR that I’m thinking of, it has Namjoon in it but THE BEST part about it is that the music in the VCR ends up being part of their hidden track from 2Cool4Skool, Path (Road, Gil, whatever you want to call it). I was really touched. That song totally pertains to the tough journey of youth themes but it’s shocking they used it considering they’ve been paying it dust is fiveever. So the VCR is of Namjoon and his Wings short film and lo and behold, the telephone booth makes an appearance which segues into his performance.

For Reflection, Namjoon’s solo, the platforms on the stage rose and what else but the phone booth. It wasn’t until this solo that I began to realize that for every solo before and after Namjoon’s, the members got to wear these really pretty sequined blazers. I feel like Namjoon’s outfit was from the Japanese designer that he’s really into right now, but I can’t be certain. So Reflection. I liked it well enough but it’s grown on me even more and the live performance made me love it even more. I knew people were going to do some fanchants and they were so loud! It was during the part where he repeats, “I wish I could love myself.” He said that and the crowd chanted, “We love you.” I guess since Chile he’s been changing the lyrics to “I wish we could love ourselves” after the chants and he did the same for this performance. At the end of him performance, Namjoon went back into the phone booth which was a great transition into Taehyung’s solo.

Sitgma. So the lights on the stage dimmed as Namjoon went into the phone booth and of course he went below stage is Taehyung came up and out Taehyung came from the same phone booth. I really love Stigma and I’m so glad he pulled it off. I know from the first Seoul concert Taehyung struggled a little bit with the high notes in it but not that day. He did such a great job. 

Now time for THE BEST solo performance of the night. Every other solo wishes! Jung Hoseok and his solo MAMA. It may not be my favorite solo musically but Hoseok’s whole stage/performance/everything >>>> the other solos. His stage presence alone is out of this world. People say it all the time and he knows, he was born to perform on stage. Where’s that Lady Gaga gif. He’s talented, brilliant, incredible, amazing, show-stopping, spectacular. I was blessed because Hoseok’s solo was the only solo that got performed on the extended stage. I was just that much closer to perfection. He came out from under the stage and sang/rapped/did the choreo with his backup dancers. The choreo isn’t difficult at all but I enjoyed it! He’s so expressive and such a great dancer. Once it got to his adlib part he ran to the runway between the extended and main stages and sang his little heart out before he made it to the main stage. I know it was just the backup dancers but I wished he could’ve had the choir like in Seoul. Anyway, Hoseok was great, everything was perfect. I love him soooo much! 

Finally, the last solo! Jin with Awake! Awake is another one of my favorite solos from Wings. I listen once then keeping replaying. So I hadn’t even watched a fancam of Jin’s at all so I didn’t know what I was expecting stagewise. I honestly really liked how they did his. The stage had 5 platforms that could change in height and they put Jin in the middle platform. The strings from Yoongi’s solo made another appearance on the other four platforms. At one point during the song Jin’s platform was elevated above the others and then later on it went in the reverse with the strings being elevated above Jin. I also enjoyed the screen in the background using graphics from HYYH Pt 1&2 album covers. Jin did fantastically and hit his high notes with ease. Perfect tbh! 

Next is the most hype performance of the night! Cypher Pt 4. Was I ready for this? I don’t know but I loved it. God bless the performance director for putting the subunits/Hoseok/Cypher on the extended stage, it makes everything better. I saw Namjoon, Yoongi, and Hoseok get their water bottles ready and the water went flying. Thank goodness I was just out of range of water hitting me. Their outfits during Cypher make me cackle but they looked so cute and totally into the song. I think my favorite part besides the song was watching them walk around the stage and hype up the crowd. Namjoon had me laughing so hard trying to do some type of dancing during part of Hoseok’s? part. It was so funny. I also love Yoongi for modifying his lyrics outside of of Korea and saying, “Click clack to the bang bang fuck you and you.” I had to sing along and laugh about it. I haven’t mentioned my mom too much because it was hard to talk to her with the headphones in but she really enjoyed this performance. I think it was her favorite from the night. She doesn’t always stand up during concerts (especially the kpop ones we’ve been to) but she stoop up for the end of cypher. She even clapped! 

Next was Fire. I love Fire. This where the preplanned Fire ocean fan project came in. I had my bag ready!!! The Fire ocean ended up working out really well. The upper bowl had red bags while the lower bowl had yellow bags. It was really pretty! I got some pictures too. I know it would’ve been too difficult but I kind of wish the yellow and red were alternated between sections versus upper and lower. I can’t really complain though. It was my second time seeing it, the first being at KCON. It was great. I only wish that they had done the special ending choreo for Fire at these concerts but that is but a minor gripe in the big scheme of things. ALSO. I feel like Fire had some kind of remix plus live version going on and I hate Big Hit for not releasing it at all. It was fire lol. We’re all missing out and being deprived.

I’m pretty sure there was a ment here but I can’t remember. Shame on me. After the ment they segued into their older song medley. These songs are some of my favorites with respect to live versions. I won’t do a paragraph per song because they didn’t even do the whole song but I’ll say that I really enjoyed watching them just freestyle to the music. I think it was during Boy In Luv? that they did a bit of choreo but other than that I loved watching them work the stage. They did shortened versions of N.O, No More Dream, Boy In Luv, Danger, and Run. I died many times when Jung Hoseok and his rude self stayed on my section’s side of the extended stage and did dance moves from some of the various songs. It’s NOT FAIR!!!! I noticed that the setlist for the US Wings tour stops were void of War of Hormone for some odd reason. I’m not complaining though because it’s my least favorite BTS song EVER! Also, I was happy to see Run in the setlist. That song has been disrespected! It didn’t do as well digital downloadwise vs. I Need U, Fire, BST but it’s still so good! I was happy to see its inclusion. 

On to 21st Century Girls. I enjoy this song, the choreo is adorable, I love it! I only have one complaint. As stated, I love the live versions of BTS songs, with two exceptions. This being one of them. I didn’t particularly care for an instruments in this live version. Like the song is still nice, but...eh. The prechorus and chorus seemed so bare? I don’t know the word. But there’s some horn sound or whatever and that get’s replaced with who knows what and I wasn’t exactly feeling it. I loved everything else though so they get a slight pass. 

Ok, I know there was a talk here! They asked if we were enjoying the concert and tried to bluff and say they were at the last song. THESE BLATANT LIES. I had noticed there were only 6 out of 7 on stage and Hoseok was missing. I was internally freaking out and hoping he wasn’t hurt until I realized that Intro: Boy Meets Evil was next!

I knew it was coming but it just warms my heart that Hoseok got to do MAMA and his Boy Meets Evil intro even if it was only half. I was getting into it and EVERYTHING and then he stopped right at the part where he’s supposed to do that butterfly kick, I think that’s what it’s called. Either way, I was blessed to see him do that live, I was so happy!

The Boy Meets Evil cutoff turned into Blood Sweat & Tears. I always think it’s cute when this transition happens because Namjoon is standing there in the dark helping Hoseok put on his blazer for BST. This song is another one in the setlist that got the superior concert remix. I HATE Big Hit and wish this version was also released. It sounded great with the band and I’m sure the studio would sound fantastic as well. 

Last before the “encore” but certainly not least was Outro: Wings. This song is actually my 3rd all time favorite BTS song after Save Me and I Need U. The rainbow ocean was supposed to happen after Outro: Wings and right before 2!3! but people got their bags out early including me. I had the bag over my phone but then I realized I needed some pics or video of this legendary song. Not like I hadn’t been singing along to everything the whole concert but I was jumping up and waving my phone around and having sooooo much fun. It’s such a great song to play at concerts. Everyone was on their feet having a great time. I was in heaven!! Because this was Outro: Wings and not it’s shorter counterpart Interlude: Wings, we got Hoseok rapping his piece. It was so cute because everyone was crowded around him hyping him up. I literally only have one gripe with this live version. It’s a hip-house song with great house elements but the house beats are weakened by using the live instruments and I felt part of the instrumental was lacking, other thank that, this song and performance were perfection.

This is were the alleged encore comes in although if you’re stupid enough to leave at this part, I worry about you. The lights went down and then started the BTS chants. They were only gone about 2-5 minutes then the screens showed the last VCR. It was a nice really touching one about how they’re making their way through life, supporting each other. Seven boys but one goal, etc etc. Really sappy, lovely stuff. 

Now everyone was ready and the rainbow ocean was in full effect. It looked soooo pretty! They started singing 2!3! and the whole crowd sang along. It’s a really heartfelt, personal song and you could really feel the sincerity in it. My mom later asked me what the song was about and after I explained it to her she said that she could definitely tell that this song in particular was super important and comforting. I think that says a lot for a woman that only listens to kpop because I make her and has no idea what’s going on besides that. Back to the song. I know the goal was for the fans to sing that last part of the chorus without BTS and we did such a great job? Everyone was so loud and I was so proud, we did well! I got a little video of at least the rainbow ocean because it was so pretty!

Finally and unfortunately, the last song of the night, Spring Day. I actually really love Spring Day after a few months. When it came out I knew some would find it a bit boring but I really enjoy chill BTS music. I wasn’t that enthused with the choreo, like it’s really great and I see people gushing over it and I’m just sitting here like yeah ok. But once again, the live performance reeled me in, I have a newfound appreciation for it. I didn’t want the song to be over. 

I think this is where this happened but if it didn’t, oh well. All of BTS gave a little spiel about enjoying the concert, etc etc. I should’ve listened better but my mom kept asking me what they were saying, she should’ve taken out the earplugs lol. I was especially touched when Jungkook said his ment in English. I know Namjoon had gone on the V+ chat a few days prior mentioning how much Jungkook had practiced this part. They all ended up holding hands and bowing to the crowd multiple times.

After all was said and done the lights came up and I’m pretty sure it was the Interlude: Wings instrumental? I don’t remember was played as BTS walked around the stage waving and thanking fans. It was all very cute. I loved when people threw a bunch of Pokemon on stage and Taehyung only picked up the Eevees and held them in his arms/put them on his head. Also cute was Yoongi and Hoseok picking up the Minnie ears and doing the Nae Nae around the stage. Everything was adorable. I didn’t want it do end, they looked like that had so much fun. Finally they slowly made their way from the extended stage to the main stage, messed around a lot more then did one big bow with the backup dancers and made their way offstage. Before everything was officially over a concert practice video ran during the credits of the Wings tour stuff. And then, that was it. I couldn’t hear properly but I had the time of my life. I only wish BTS/Big Hit can get bigger and even richer and then they’ll actually take a live band on tour with them. How awesome would that be!

I LOVED LOVED LOVED Wings Tour sooooo much and I shall wait patiently until BTS comes back again because I had such an incredible time!
