"why is there only 1 RB per planet. why dorsn't the moon get an RB. what even is a soul" are all good questions and i have another!

if john killing the planets produced the resurrection beasts, if the reason he killed the planets was to get a thanergy boost from their deaths, and a thing must have a soul for it to be killed, does this mean the fucking sun has a soul?

ugh you know before nona came out i was semi-convinced that alecto was actually the RB of the sun. which doesn't really make sense bc how could there be life on the sun. but john said he reignited the sun, and that he continued to power it, and his eyes kind of look like an eclipse, you get it. so YEAH i'm with you here, if john actually resurrected the sun then it seems like it's gotta have a soul right?!! IF john is telling the truth, which seems to be a big if, because in HTN right as we believe john's death is causing the sun to collapse he suddenly re-forms and tells augustine that he can't actually be killed by the RBs or by mercymorn, so no need to worry about Dominicus after all, except how it may have toasted the sixth a little bit there, whoopsie! BUT then in NTN john does say he "bit through the sun first" so like!! what is the deal!!

see my commander wake response. but seriously i love blood of eden. i love that it has a bunch of factions that can't get along with each other because obviously an up to 10,000 year old organization would have a fuckton of different branches. i love that people on new rho see edenites as zombie lovers, because of course an organization built on preserving a 10,000 year old message would not be the most radical liberation group out there! i find BOE fascinating, the BOE members we've been introduced to are some of my favorite characters, and i wish there was a whole series just about the edenites because there's honestly so much to explore there. the way it's composed of people not just from different countries but different planets with 10,000 years of cultural divergence all fighting for one cause. drives me nuts! i want to see what happened on lemuria!

most memorable fanfic scene for me is from A Trip Down Memory Lane, when max and chloe watch chloe's first date with rachel play out. max's line —

“It’s beautiful.” Max whispered, “She was beautiful.”

— really stuck with me because of the contrast between the more present "it's beautiful", and the aching reminder that rachel's long past with the past tense "was beautiful". hurts in such a unique way when coupled with chloe's present tense “She really is”; the wording reinforces how max has only ever known rachel posthumously, whilst chloe is so jarred by seeing her in the flesh that she slips back into present tense.

Ah! This made my whole day!

I really, really loved writing that entire chapter. There was such a specific level of nostalgia and longing that I really wanted to encompass in the whirlwind of emotions that came with that scene. I remember reading it over when I was editing and feeling that ache Chloe was feeling as she saw this once bright flame of hers be so close, but so incredibly far. Also, trying to carve a small space in that moment for Max to experience and feel such an important memory of Chloe’s was also really fun to figure out. So that chapter and that entire scene was definitely one of my absolute favorites to write and I'm so glad it stuck with you as much as it has with me.

you dont understand the tedium of writing a tag for a natural history collection specimen you have to fit so much data on a tiny tag thats like 2 cm tall and you have to write in micron and the only thing you can write in pencil is the scientific name because thats something that gets updated sometimes otherwise if you make one mistake on the tag WHICH IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF THE SPECIMEN AND ALL THE DATA HAS TO BE ACCURATE you have to restart the entire thing

Anoxic - (Of a place or environment) lacking oxygen.

Bioluminescence - The production of light by a chemical reaction within an organism. The process occurs in many bacteria and protists, as well as certain animals and fungi.

Cathodoluminescence - An analytical technique used in geology and paleontology to analyze the different minerals in a sample, or diagenetic history of a sample — how crystals grew, were deformed, and were replaced.

Fucoxanthin - Yellowish-brown pigment found in some members of the Chromista, including kelps and diatoms.

Ghrelin - a hormone that makes a person hungry.

Hydrophilic - "Water loving". Hydrophilic compounds dissolve easily in water, and are usually polar.

Hydrophobic - "Water fearing". Hydrophobic compounds do not dissolve easily in water, and are usually non-polar. Oils and other long hydrocarbons are hydrophobic.

Luciferase - Enzyme which activates luciferin to produce bioluminescence.

Luciferin - Compound whose activated form emits light.

Ossification - The process of bone formation.

Phototropism - The growth or movement of a plant, or of a particular part of a plant, toward light or away from it.

Phycocyanin - Blue, water-soluble pigment.

Phycoerythrin - Red, water-soluble pigment.

Pigment - Any colorful compound, used by living things to absorb or block sunlight, and in sexual displays.

Saxitoxin - Neurotoxin found in a variety of dinoflagellates. If ingested, it may cause respiratory failure and cardiac arrest.
