So I finally had time to sit down and play through 2.3 this week and man I have a lot of Feelings about all of it, but today it's about Gallagher and Mikhail because!

The devotion of a dog! Gallagher's dedication lasting beyond Mikhail's death and then some! The way he let himself be seen through knowing it would mean his own death because it would help to accomplish his and Mikhail's dream! The immense regret and long lasting guilt of not helping Mikhail when he needed him! THE WAY MISHA CALLS GALLAGHER "MY HOUND-"

Ahem. I'm normal I swear. Anyway.

And one of my favorite displays of this undying loyalty? This.

This is the record you unlock in 2.3 after Siobahn brings up Gallagher's death in the Dreamjolt Hostelry. Right after "to the Nameless resting in peace... and to Gallagher."

La Messe de l'athée translates to The Mass of the Atheist. It was a short story about a man who goes to church, and is surprised to see another man whom he knows is an atheist attending mass, all alone. When questioned, the atheist says that he attends for a friend. This friend had banded with him when they were both poor, and acted as a father figure to him. The atheist managed to pull himself from poverty with his help, and did everything he could to repay and take care of his friend thereafter.

The friend died of illness some years later.

The atheist is still an atheist. But he attends mass on the behalf of the religious friend that saved him, and recites the prayers he heard whispered on his deathbed. These borrowed prayers are the closest a man like him could get to being a true believer, but he always holds out hope that those beliefs might enter his head.

There is so much in there, in the story they decided on as our final memento of Gallagher, that this is what was chosen to immortalize him, and ARGH OTL

I will never stop thinking about how their paths intertwined. Meetings by chance and words you say to feel out the other person. How their power comes and goes and rocks your decisions and plans. How even the tiniest point of contact sets things into motion. How Green Phoenix, by never really managing to be fully uncaring (for Thirteen, for inserting himself between the fights of Seven and Red Tooth, for giving Seven directions to the Thousand Demon Dagger) makes Seven and Thirteen's meeting happen. How that later makes him decide for her to "betray" him. How in the end that brought him his own death but he also found sth important along the way. How the last time we ever see him (in the ED) is him smiling. It is truly unbelievable just how much these assassins feel despite their best efforts.

dilf Azul taking his kids to disney and you're a character actor for ariel/prince eric/ursula, and obviously the kids favorite. and the kids are so cute of course you give them the best autograph, trade pins etc! and azul is over the moon about it, tries to figure out how to see you off duty to get to know the REAL you!

OMG YES AAAAAA that’s so cute. 🥺 his kids are so excited to get their pictures taken with you, to get autographs, to trade pins. They watch you with such amazement in their eyes the entire time you interact with them, flawlessly acting like the character you’re portraying. They even tug Azul in for the picture, and he feels so awkward standing near you because you’ve taken his breath away and he can’t stop staring at you. You’re all he can think about as the day wears on. His kids keep talking about how nice Ariel/Ursula/Prince Eric was and he’s inclined to agree. Of course he knows you’re just playing a character, but that doesn’t make him any less intrigued. He wants to know everything about the you beneath the costume and the makeup.

And if you happen to run into each other just as you’re getting off of your shift… Well, maybe it’s fate. Maybe the universe is telling him to chase after love once more. And maybe this time it’ll be a permanent match. :)
