1: sexuality headcanon

you know, i have been thinking much of this since starting to work on originsfic!! as you know my central thesis is twofold: 1.) "the arcane order is powered by love," and 2.) "nari is still part of the order, HELLO." i do not...know? if my nari is aroace? i don't think so. i think she certainly feels...content, unpartnered, even as she sees her two best friends equally content in the opposite state. but... hm! you know, i clearly have to think about this more. (what was she doing before getting caught in the fairyforest...?)

2: otp

the fandom is seriously sleeping on narishipping, imo. she's cute! she's made of love! come on, people, i might not have an answer yet but surely some of us do >:V though i suppose i am, again, biased, bc i've experienced some very sweet narroc/narrael in my time (thank u @babblish and @arcaneorderships!).

once again: not harshing vibes, bc i know this is popular. but i actually. really. really dislike. what is it called, "magi/cal siblings?" douxie and nari? mostly a platonic ship from what i've seen (maybe romo would be less. Like This) but SO much of what i've seen out there for these characters seems to 1.) completely infantilize her while also 2.) COMPLETELy erasing the fact that... y'know... nari had other relationships before showing up in camelot? it's got some cute potential i guess but the oversaturation + suspect takes in a lot of it tend to put me off. people are wrong about characters on the internet, je telephone à la police.

5: first headcanon that pops into my head

she got into brocéliande (the fairy-forest, the "eternal forest" her title comes from) by wandering through this:

i know this isn't where she comes out though (when bellroc and skrael come rescue her!), but i...haven't actually decided yet where that is 😂

PROBLEMATIC FAVE!!! everyone forgets that she NEVER says the order is wrong, only that what they're doing isn't worth it, and even that only once bellroc is hurt 😭 lov this horrible necromancing bug.

I have…… noticed you refer to the marks on Skrael’s wrists and ankles as ’ligature’ and.., 👀 *interested noises*

i dooo, anon. mostly because in my hc: this is what they are. (though oh goodness, where on earth did you see me use the term? i can't remember where i last described them as such, haha.) i don't know if i've ever brought it up in fic, though i know i definitely want to. 🤔 the only time i've drawn them in a way i'm pleased with is probably this little ref i made for myself; you should be able to see there the impression of twisted/braided cord. my skrael's got the same marks on his ankles, and i know i DO have an art of this somewhere, but it's just his paperdoll which is otherwise nude/mostly unfinished...

ANYWAY i'm afraid i'm not really indulging your interested noises as much as you'd like, maybe 😂 partly because i'm saturated thinking about it for originsfic (skrael's chapter is...not quite a linear narrative, and when these come up, it's only obliquely) but partly also bc my skrael backstory feels...not explicitly angst porn or anything, nor even...i mean, is it whump? i know this term, but i'm not familiar with using it of my own work/taste. but it is a tragedy. a terrible thing, one wrong choice—not even a wrong choice, just a terribly, terribly unlucky one. one that brought him into the awareness of someone selfish and overweeningly proud, who would have stopped at nothing to take skrael's power for his own. perhaps the outcome was avoidable, perhaps not. but the story of it could still be beautiful.

the tldr is: bellroc and skrael both unlock the magic of gods in awful, unthinkable circumstances. both of them die in the process, both...pretty upsetting deaths. skrael's is just more of a contact sport.

(of course he doesn't stay dead. he can't undo what's been done but he does avoid a worse fate, the one he died running from, and he does get his righteous, bloody, cathartic revenge. if it must hurt—at least i can give him this.)
