Everyday Black History: Educational Guide to Incorporating Black History into your Homeschool Year-round
February is Black History Month and I would love to encourage all educators, parents and adults in general to incorporate these best practices into their daily lives throughout the year. My definition of educator is very broad. If you have a sphere of influence to speak into the lives of future generations, then you’re an educator as far as I’m concerned. I believe in intentional education and thus we should never limit an entire group’s history and contributions to 28 days.
- Be intentional in your read alouds, independent reading and book list choices. Make sure that you incorporate books that provide a well rounded perspective on history, literature, geography, language arts and even math.
- Diversify your homeschool social media feed. Connect with, read works by and learn best practices from other homeschooling parents and educators of colors.
1. Follow My Reflections Matter and incorporate their diverse resources to your educational plans.
2. Check out Negra Bohemian a self described: a free spirit redefining motherhood through a socially conscious, faith-led and wandering lifestyle.
3. Check out Trippin’ Momma to be inspired by a single mother who’s recovered from domestic violence and is exploring the world on her own terms.
4. Follow Dr. Kira Bank and her work on Raising Equity.
5. Follow my friend Sarah’s adventures in her blog and be inspired to take adventurous trips with your kids to destinations like Dubai, Hong Kong and Kenya.
6. Follow The Spring Break Family and be encouraged to take adventures with our kids even if they’re not homeschooled.
7. Check out Our Kitchen Classroom and learn how to connect food with culture - travel.
If your a Christian, read this: No Days Off...
“This February, lay down the burden of ambassadorship and let Black History Month be your swimming lessons. May it be a reminder that each stroke forward transforms our weaknesses into strengths, powerlessness into purpose. We’re not treading water. Kingdom ambassadors make new wave moves. Look back and see how God is moving us forward.”

Let America Be America Again
Langston Hughes, 1902 - 1967
Let America be America again. Let it be the dream it used to be. Let it be the pioneer on the plain Seeking a home where he himself is free. (America never was America to me.) Let America be the dream the dreamers dreamed— Let it be that great strong land of love Where never kings connive nor tyrants scheme That any man be crushed by one above. (It never was America to me.) O, let my land be a land where Liberty Is crowned with no false patriotic wreath, But opportunity is real, and life is free, Equality is in the air we breathe. (There’s never been equality for me, Nor freedom in this “homeland of the free.”) Say, who are you that mumbles in the dark? And who are you that draws your veil across the stars? I am the poor white, fooled and pushed apart, I am the Negro bearing slavery’s scars. I am the red man driven from the land, I am the immigrant clutching the hope I seek— And finding only the same old stupid plan Of dog eat dog, of mighty crush the weak. I am the young man, full of strength and hope, Tangled in that ancient endless chain Of profit, power, gain, of grab the land! Of grab the gold! Of grab the ways of satisfying need! Of work the men! Of take the pay! Of owning everything for one’s own greed! I am the farmer, bondsman to the soil. I am the worker sold to the machine. I am the Negro, servant to you all. I am the people, humble, hungry, mean— Hungry yet today despite the dream. Beaten yet today—O, Pioneers! I am the man who never got ahead, The poorest worker bartered through the years. Yet I’m the one who dreamt our basic dream In the Old World while still a serf of kings, Who dreamt a dream so strong, so brave, so true, That even yet its mighty daring sings In every brick and stone, in every furrow turned That’s made America the land it has become. O, I’m the man who sailed those early seas In search of what I meant to be my home— For I’m the one who left dark Ireland’s shore, And Poland’s plain, and England’s grassy lea, And torn from Black Africa’s strand I came To build a “homeland of the free.” The free? Who said the free? Not me? Surely not me? The millions on relief today? The millions shot down when we strike? The millions who have nothing for our pay? For all the dreams we’ve dreamed And all the songs we’ve sung And all the hopes we’ve held And all the flags we’ve hung, The millions who have nothing for our pay— Except the dream that’s almost dead today. O, let America be America again— The land that never has been yet— And yet must be—the land where every man is free. The land that’s mine—the poor man’s, Indian’s, Negro’s, ME— Who made America, Whose sweat and blood, whose faith and pain, Whose hand at the foundry, whose plow in the rain, Must bring back our mighty dream again. Sure, call me any ugly name you choose— The steel of freedom does not stain. From those who live like leeches on the people’s lives, We must take back our land again, America! O, yes, I say it plain, America never was America to me, And yet I swear this oath— America will be! Out of the rack and ruin of our gangster death, The rape and rot of graft, and stealth, and lies, We, the people, must redeem The land, the mines, the plants, the rivers. The mountains and the endless plain— All, all the stretch of these great green states— And make America again!

Still I Rise
Maya Angelou, 1928 - 2014
You may write me down in history With your bitter, twisted lies, You may trod me in the very dirt But still, like dust, I’ll rise. Does my sassiness upset you? Why are you beset with gloom? ‘Cause I walk like I’ve got oil wells Pumping in my living room. Just like moons and like suns, With the certainty of tides, Just like hopes springing high, Still I’ll rise. Did you want to see me broken? Bowed head and lowered eyes? Shoulders falling down like teardrops, Weakened by my soulful cries? Does my haughtiness offend you? Don’t you take it awful hard ‘Cause I laugh like I’ve got gold mines Diggin’ in my own backyard. You may shoot me with your words, You may cut me with your eyes, You may kill me with your hatefulness, But still, like air, I’ll rise. Does my sexiness upset you? Does it come as a surprise That I dance like I’ve got diamonds At the meeting of my thighs? Out of the huts of history’s shame I rise Up from a past that’s rooted in pain I rise I’m a black ocean, leaping and wide, Welling and swelling I bear in the tide. Leaving behind nights of terror and fear I rise Into a daybreak that’s wondrously clear I rise Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave, I am the dream and the hope of the slave. I rise I rise I rise.

Lift Every Voice and Sing
James Weldon Johnson, 1871 - 1938
Lift every voice and sing, Till earth and heaven ring, Ring with the harmonies of Liberty; Let our rejoicing rise High as the list’ning skies, Let it resound loud as the rolling sea. Sing a song full of the faith that the dark past has taught us, Sing a song full of the hope that the present has brought us; Facing the rising sun of our new day begun, Let us march on till victory is won. Stony the road we trod, Bitter the chast’ning rod, Felt in the days when hope unborn had died; Yet with a steady beat, Have not our weary feet Come to the place for which our fathers sighed? We have come over a way that with tears has been watered. We have come, treading our path through the blood of the slaughtered, Out from the gloomy past, Till now we stand at last Where the white gleam of our bright star is cast. God of our weary years, God of our silent tears, Thou who hast brought us thus far on the way; Thou who hast by Thy might, Led us into the light, Keep us forever in the path, we pray. Lest our feet stray from the places, our God, where we met Thee, Lest our hearts, drunk with the wine of the world, we forget Thee; Shadowed beneath Thy hand, May we forever stand, True to our God, True to our native land.

Studying in the UK for Indian Students in 2021
Indian students are the third biggest group of international students in the UK. As of 2017 to 2018, there were 19,750 Indian students studying in the UK. In fact, in 2019 the number of Indian students in the UK increased by 63%.
The top-notch quality of education, countless studying opportunities, modern educational approaches, student job opportunities, and future prospects available is an overall exciting studying experience for Indian students.
But, on the flip side, many students from India have difficulties understanding the entire process of applying for a university degree course in the UK because the information is not very clear and often confusing for first-timers. As someone who is not from the UK, it can be difficult to navigate the information to study in the UK for future Indian students.
In this article, we’ve compiled a set of information, in the form of a step-by-step process, that an Indian student would have to go through to study in the UK.
As you may know, there are a large number of universities to choose from in the UK, whereas the number of degree courses on offer is much higher. For international students, including you as a fellow Indian student who may not have much knowledge of universities in the UK does require a little more research before making the final decision (as this will ultimately set you for life !).
However, there’s no need to stress about this too much. As long as you know what your academic goals are and what type of degree or course will get you to your future career, this will be very minor.
Even with the setback of the pandemic, you can reach all universities in the UK online for any further information. So, sit down at your laptop and begin your research with a bit of help from us.
We’ve compiled the list of all recognised universities in the UK… We advise that you do a fast scanning of the list and look into what universities relate to your personal studying goals, financial capacities and the location to study in the UK for Indian students.
List of recognised universities for International Students as of 2021-2022:
University of Oxford – Oxford,England
Cambridge University – Cambridge England
University College London- London, England
Imperial College London – London, England
The University of Edinburgh- Scotland The University of Manchester- Manchester, England King’s College London- London, England London School of Economics and Political Science- London, England University of Bristol- Bristol, England The University of Warwick- Coventry, England University of Glasgow— Scotland Durham University—- Durham, England University of Sheffield Sheffield,England University of Birmingham- Birmingham,England University of Leeds- Yorkshire, England University of Southampton England University of St Andrews England
You might want to analyze the university’s study modules first, the proportion of practical sessions during the course (if applicable), the profile and status of its academic staff. These factors will definitely help you decide and choose the most suitable university for you.
Check the requirements
Once you’ve decided about what course you’re willing to enroll in to study in the UK as an Indian Student, it’s time to know what you need to do in order to be admitted through to the final stage. This is to add that you need to check the university’s entry requirements.
There are no typical or rigid requirements for all UK universities, therefore you need to contact the University of your choice by yourself and ask for further details. Overall, entry requirements for Indian students in the UK differ depending on the type of course or degree you want to apply for.
The list of documents required to study in the UK as an Indian student below:
Recognized Qualifications – Transcript of Grades – English Proficiency – Motivation or Reference Letter – Relevant Work Experience/Internships
Please be aware that qualifications attained overseas are most of the time not recognized in the UK unfortunately. For this reason, you may be required to attend a foundation year (1 year) to gain certain knowledge in particular subjects that your actual degree is concerned with. Motivation, Reference letters, and proof of work experience are optional and are usually required in addition to your application at highly-reputed universities (as competition and selection criteria are tight). These documents are mostly required when you apply for a postgraduate degree also.
Always keep in mind that this initial stage is very crucial when applying to study in the UK as an Indian student because every detail counts a great deal. If your application paperwork doesn’t contain all documents as precisely required by the university it may lead to your admission delay and eventually to not even be enrolled. If necessary write them down and mark each document you have completed as you go through them. This is your future!
Never hesitate to reach your university by email and enquire about every issue that may get in your way during the whole process of your application.
After you have completed the documents required of you it is time to submit your application. Typically, international applications to study in the UK are collected through online means. The majority of UK universities are part of the joint online application platform called UCAS.
To upload your documents you must scan them into a PDF or JPG format. In addition, the application form may also include standardised information about you which you have to fulfill properly.
Wait for your admission letter
As soon as you complete your application and send this off, the University of your choice will send you an email to confirm they have received an application from you. Note that UK universities collect a large number of applications, therefore, it normally takes time to receive an answer. In normal conditions, the university will notify you within a few weeks whether or not you’re given a place at their university or not.
Get your student visa ASAP
You must get a student visa in order to be permitted to study in the UK as an Indian student or international student. Student visa in the UK is regarded as ‘Tier 4’. You can apply for your Tier 4 visa once the university of your choice confirms that you have been accepted. By that time you will also have to collect the required funds to prove that you can cover the cost of living and studying in the UK as an Indian student.
To get your student visa in the UK you need to submit the following documents:
Valid Passport Proof of English Proficiency Proof of Financial Means to fund your stay in the UK The result of the Tuberculosis Test Proof of parental or guardian if you’re under 18
When to apply for a student visa?
You can apply for your Tier 4 visa in the UK 3 months before your course or degree starts. The processing of your visa application can take up to three weeks and you can also check its processing at any time during that period.
Student Visa Fees**
Currently, it costs £348 to apply for your student visa if you’re from overseas.
It is also important to know what benefits and what restrictions your student visa in the UK applies to you as you study in the UK as an Indian student.
A Tier visa allows you…
To study Work part-time Bring family members in the UK (dependants) However, you cannot
Get public funds Work full-time Work in certain professions, for instance as a dental surgeon or a professional sportsperson

Basic living costing for India students while studying in the UK.
1. Accommodation Costs in the UK
The costs of studying in the UK for international students does depend on the type of accommodation they go for and the city they will choose to pursue their studies. Major metropolitans like London, are much more costlier than smaller cities and towns in the UK.
Average Monthly Costs London Other Cities
University Residence £700-850 £450-550
Private Housing £800-950 £550-650
Utility Bills £40-55 £40-45
2. Food Costs in the UK
There are no extra food costs involved for international students who opt for on-campus accommodation or to a minimum.
Dining out on a regular basis is not a way to manage costs while studying in the UK. If possible, it is better to treat yourself once in a while. The best and most cost-effective option is to prepare food in advance. To give you an overview of what your average meal plan would cost, here is a list of staple grocery items with their average cost.
Item Quantity Price Bread 1 pack £0.80 Milk 1.13 L £0.80 Chicken 300 g £1.60 Eggs 30 £2.50 Rice 5kg £6.50 Cooking Oil 1 L £1.20 Water 1.5 L £0.81
3. Transport Costs in the UK
Transport costs are the second most important costs to consider. Transport cost also varies from different cities and the mode of transport that you require to use adds to the cost of studying in the UK. Walking and cycling is a way to go for transport, but this only applies to students that live on campus and are close to their university.
City Average Monthly Transport Costs
London £50-60 Manchester £45-55 Birmingham £40-50 Liverpool £40-50 Leeds £40-45

Back from Dublin
Here comes my first post in 2017. This year started differently, in a positive way. Hitting new challenges at work and having the opportunity to work with a new team, I got to spend two weeks of January in Dublin to meet my colleagues and get started with my new role.
Now that I am back to Beirut, refueled with positive energy, I am ready to start a promising year. But most importantly, I am happy to have discovered a beautiful and peaceful city, and genuinely friendly and welcoming people. I think I underestimated how incredibly nice Irish people can be, until I got to meet them. I have to mention that I struggled first with the accents, but after a while it started to get easier. And as I am writing now, I can’t wait till my next visit.
Getting Around
If you are visiting Dublin, you can easily discover the city while walking or by using public transportation such as bus, Dart or taxis for bigger distances. Thanks to my Lebanese friend living in Dublin, I learned that I could get a Leap Card in some shops like Centra and some other grocery stores. The card can also be purchased online if you don’t mind waiting a couple of days for its delivery. This way, I had my card ready to take the bus when I got too tired or too cold while walking.
Where to Stay
I was staying at the Herbert Park Hotel as it was very close to the office. It is also at 30 minutes walk from the city center, and 5 minutes away from the bus stop. The location was very convenient, and the staff very friendly. I would recommend this hotel for anyone not travelling on budget.
What to Visit
Dublin includes a variety of sights you could visit depending on your interests. Here is a list of the ones I have visited, in addition to some other suggestions.
- Dublin Castle: The castle was constructed in 1204 following the order of King John of England. Since then, it became a center for the military and political power in Ireland. Nowadays, Dublin castle hosts the important State events like the inauguration of the Irish president for every mandate.
- Saint Patrick’s Cathedral: This is the National Cathedral of the Church of Ireland and the tallest and largest church in Ireland.
- Christchurch Cathedral: Founded by the Vikings and rebuilt by Anglo-Normans, the Christchurch cathedral is today the cathedral of the United Dioceses of Dublin and Glendalough in the Church of Ireland.
- Trinity College Library: The Library of Trinity College Dublin serves Trinity College and the University of Dublin. It is the largest library in Ireland and is famous for hosting the Books of Kells and a beautiful Long Room. The Book of Kells was created by Celtic monks over 1200 years ago. It is an illuminated manuscript containing colorful illustrations and is considered as one of Ireland’s national treasures. My favorite part of the visit was the Long Room. It contains over 200,000 books and the oldest example of Ireland's national symbol, the Harp. You would think you have already visited the Long Room because it looks like the library scenes in movies such as Harry Potter (although Harry's scene was in Cambridge).
- Phoenix Park and Dublin Zoo: Dublin Zoo is the largest zoo in Ireland and one Dublin’s main attractions. It is situated in Phoenix Park, the largest park in European capital cities. I visited the zoo and the park on a really cold day so I didn’t dare to go far enough to see the gazelles because rain was expected. The park also includes the residence of Ireland’s president and the USA ambassador’s house.
- Herbert Park: I was staying right next to Herbert Park, but couldn’t have a walk there until the weekend. The park is not very big but it is beautiful and well maintained. You would see people jogging, walking their dogs or just relaxing on one of the benches. I should try to have some morning walks there if I visit on warmer days.
In my next visits, I also plan to check the National Gallery and National Museum, the Little Museum of Dublin and the Science Gallery in Trinity College. I will probably enjoy a walk in Stephen’s Green Park, as I skipped it in my first visit. I would also like to attend an Irish folk dance spectacle as I have always been amazed by the performance of Lord of the Dance.
Other famous sights in Dublin also include the Guiness Storyhouse, the Old Jameson distillery and the Kilmainham Gaol, a former prison turned into a museum.
As for shopping, I enjoyed a pleasant experience in Dublin and got back home with a full luggage. I am not sure if it was only due to Sales season in January, but I noticed that prices are really lower than other European countries, and definitely lower than Lebanon. Head to Grafton Street and Henry Street and you’ll find a vast range of stores or shopping malls satisfying different tastes and budgets. Dundrum Shopping Center is also worth visiting. I particularly liked the House of Fraser department store there, and you can treat yourself with a nice dinner after shopping in the different restaurants and cafes available in the center.
What to Eat
I tried several restaurants in Dublin and none was disappointing. Unfortunately, I got an issue with my phone SD card, and lost the food pictures taken in the first couple of days. The places that I would recommend are the following:
- The Rustic Stone: Grill your steak the way you like it on a hot stone. I had mine with truffle fries. That was my first meal in Dublin so the pictures were lost :(
- The Girl and the Goose: My first lunch with my new team was at this lovely restaurant, where I mostly loved the nice library-like setting. The restaurant offers a selection of burgers, sandwiches and platters.
- Roli’s Bistro: Roli’s offers a selection of platters and sandwiches at convenient prices. The service is fast and you can also pick up a sandwich or a salad on-the-go, so it is recommended for lunch breaks, but it is also enjoyable for a nice relaxing dinner. I had this goat cheese tart there.
- Junior’s: For a quick and delicious grilled chicken sandwich, head to Junior’s. You can also have half portions of salad or soup with your sandwich. The food is good and the service is fast but the place is almost always full.
- Banyi’s Japanese Dining: I was craving sushi so I picked this place from Trip Advisor nearby restaurants, and it was the good choice. The nice presentation on dry ice made the food even more delicious.
- Al Boschetto: A family-run Italian restaurant in Ballsbridge, I went there twice. You can choose from a selection of salads, sandwiches, platters and pizza. I would recommend the chichen platter with mushroom sauce and rosemary potatoes.
- The Lobster Pot: When I was taking the stairs up to the Lobster Pot, I wasn’t expecting the elegant old-style setting. I think I was lucky to be let in with my casual look and without reservation. I had some trouble selecting from the menu because there were so many platters I wanted to try. I am going back again for sure. After dinner, make sure to try something from the desserts trolley, I had the honeycomb cake and loved it.
- Jewel in the Crown: I tried their set lunch menus of Korma chicken and rice and it was delicious. The portions are good enough for lunch and the prices are very affordable. I would go again and try something from the full more diversified A la carte” menu.
- Ravi’s Kitchen: This family-run Indian restaurant has the nice atmosphere and the authentic cuisine. Go for the Korma chicken if you can’t handle extra-spicy food. The portions are big, so don’t order too much like I did, because everything is delicious and you would want to finish everything even when you are so full!
And to top it all, there is nothing better than a homemade delicious apple pie to try when you are away from home. I made sure to get the recipe from my friend so I can try preparing it when I get the chance.
Finally, a visit to Dublin can’t be complete without dropping by the Temple Bar area and the Irish pubs vibrant with jovial voices and music.
I am going again to Dublin, but this time I will probably visit the Irish countryside. So stay tuned for more posts about Ireland…

Facebook: Launching its own cryptocurrency to vanguard in M-commerce
Over the last few years, the much-debated issue of online-platform is “The importance of cryptocurrency and its impacts on the M-commerce”. Cryptocurrency – an innovative, rebellious and futuristic way of transacting has ultimately turned into a noteworthy payment method. Nowadays, most of the smartphone shoppers keen to use cryptocurrencies, as a result, it became essential to explore and integrate the cryptocurrency payment methods into their business model for both online as well as offline commerce firms.
And the rumors are true! Facebook – the social media giant launching its own cryptocurrency in the first half of 2019. The move will surely make Facebook as the vanguard in the M-commerce industry and place it in the competitive position against Visa, PayPal, and MasterCard.
Facebook’s Terrible 2018
Though it might sound crazy, especially in the context of 2018, arguably the most terrible year for Facebook as it staggered from one scandal to another. The Cambridge Analytica data breach, the Russian election – 2016 propaganda, and the misuse of its platform during violence against Rihingya Muslims in Myanmar, prompted the Facebook users to trend #DeleteFacebook and urged them to delete their account.
However, it is important to note that amid this crisis, Facebook quietly worked on launching of an in-house startup to explore the ways in which the firm can leverage the power of blockchain and cryptocurrency. The firm appointed a team of around 40 highly expertise people with several former key PayPal executives, headed by David Marcus, Head of Facebook Messenger and former President of PayPal. As per the reliable sources, the team worked under the highly secretive atmosphere and forced to sign NDA’s to safeguard the details of the project.
During early March, Facebook finally went public with the announcement of their first crypto product – a digital stable coin – to be used for remittance payments. Primarily, the firm will focus on the Indian ecommerce market and enable the WhatsApp users to transfer money on an instant basis. The reason behind this move is pretty simple – India is by far Whatsapp’s largest market with more than 200 million monthly active users and also one of the biggest markets for remittance as it represents over 10% of the $613 billion global remittance market. The captivation of such large market through quick fund transfer and lower transaction cost would be a winning real-world use case.
The Bigger Perspective
After experiencing the shocking year, Facebook is ready to rebuild customer trust and what would better than a promised privacy-first approach that would address the firm’s immediate shortcomings! By aspiring to offer several diversified services on one platform, Facebook wants to be the WeChat of the world outside China.
With more than 1 billion monthly active users in China, WeChat is regarded as “app for everything” or “super app” and allows the users to access services like sending of text/voice messages, sharing things on social media, following celebrities & brands news, booking of public transports, ordering food delivery, buying movie tickets, playing casual games, transferring of money, paying bills, getting banking statements, accessing of fitness tracker data, booking doctor’s appointment, finding Geo-targeted coupons, recognizing music, reading books/magazine, meeting strangers around you, and much more.
Over and above that, Facebook would love to diversify its advertising-only revenue model into a payment-based and transaction-based revenue model and leverage its 2.5 billion active user base. To turn this aspiration to reality, the world trending Indian market would be the best option as it owns the large and growing mobile enabled population. Moreover, the major incumbent like WeChat as well as other global payment platforms like PayPal have less presence in India.
The Road Ahead For Facebook
As per the industry analysts, initially, Facebook will go with a dollar-based digital currency and start off with peer-to-peer payments, then move towards utilization of its e-wallet as a “Pay with FB” option for any online vendor similarly that of Facebook Login works for identification. Just imagine! What would a Facebook’s stable coin and digital wallet mean for those mobile-only users of the developing countries? It might represent a worldwide mobile commerce structure along with a more stable store of value while compared to their local fiat currency. In this context, at some point in time, Facebook could establish an online bank for the digital natives in these emerging economies.
However, this can’t be achieved overnight! Since to drive adoption of a digital currency, Facebook requires one crucial element that it currently has in short supply: trust. Here arise the chicken and egg dilemma! To rebuild trust, Facebook needs to target more transnational revenue driven by user utility instead of ad sale, however, for that, some users must show trust in Facebook. Under these circumstances, Facebook’s move can be viewed as a safeguard as well as offense simultaneously.
Take Away
Well, regardless of current circumstances, Facebook deserves some amount of trust as it successfully reinvented itself twice, by turning from a single social media platform in the desktop ear to an unbundled collection of mobile apps. And, becoming a mobile commerce ecosystem along with its own native currency would another feather in its cap! Nevertheless, Facebook will undoubtedly overcome this ultimate challenge as it owns a strong brand image, largest user base, enormous capital, unmatched resources, and of course some very smart people!!!

Powered by our strategic partner ChefOnline, the concept of ARTA and its journey begins and ends on a customer level. Galvanised by the technological platforms at our disposal alongside our initial clientele base of over 150,000 active customers, we ask the regular consumers of South Asian cuisine.the dedicated frequenters of curry houses on the streets of Britain - to put forward their most beloved Indian restaurant. The process of nomination via online applications and websites will help us compile an authentic list of the nation’s most cherished eateries based on the opinions of local residents from regions across the UK. After the launch of our campaign, we endeavour to separate the UK into 15 distinct areas in order to distinguish the Top 30 South Asian restaurants in each region - from Edinburgh to Southampton, from Belfast to Cambridge, and everywhere in between. This comprehensive campaign will be a national operation over the course of four months. We will then conduct a formal assessment to determine the leading culinary establishments dependent upon such criteria as quality of service, quality of product, value for money and food hygiene ratings, in tandem with the number of nominations provided by the public. At ARTA, we are not simply concerned with cuisine. Our prerogative is the entire culinary experience - 360 degrees from the moment you step in the restaurant to the moment the door closes behind you.We will then embark upon a regional media campaign, engaging with local newspapers, businesses and media partners. Furthermore, we will establish partnerships with local colleges and universities who will host our regional cook-off events, where restaurateurs will have the chance to earn the accolade of being among the region’s top establishments and customers will have the chance to win the grand prize of a brand-new car thanks to ARTA’s business partnerships. These exhilarating occasions will entail a competition between each respective region’s best restaurants as determined by their customers. This is where the ARTA project elevates its ambition. The Asian catering industry is valued at an approximation of £5 billion. Even so, over the years the industry has witnessed a steep downturn. This decline is manifested in the shortage of skilled workers in the hospitality sector - from a lack of talented chefs all the way through to front of house staff. There exists a palpable sense of disinterest amongst younger people or job seekers with regard to the hospitality sector as a potential career path. The ARTA initiative involves addressing this insufficiency.ARTA celebrates the art of cookery, but places the same amount of emphasis on all roles in the hospitality environment, including extraordinary service or bar management. ARTA was conceived to play a pivotal role in reinvigorating the general perception of the possibilities afforded by embarking upon employment in the culinary sector. Through reaching out to current and prospective students at our regional cook-offs, we aim to establish a program of youth engagement that we think will revitalise the food industry by targeting a demographic that it is crucial to the future prosperity of the sector. We aim to do this from the ground up - by encouraging individuals to engage with businesses on a local level at our competitions, buttressed by a targeted program utilising our business and media partnerships in addition to cooperation with educational institutions. As we work with businesses, colleges and universities nationwide, we introduce the industry and prospective workers to one another, inspiring a symbiotic relationship whereby the image of the culinary sector is enhanced. Furthermore, our digital and social media campaign will reach out to the wider community and help individuals discover resources relevant to the trade, such as information for courses in hospitality and catering at their local educational facility. Our end goal lies in collectively promoting the hospitality sector as a legitimate and desirable career path for the youth of today, inevitably breathing new life into the industry

Eight Reasons to Use Cryptocurrency Payments in 2019
Eight Reasons to Use Cryptocurrency Payments in 2019
Op-Ed
This article on cryptocurrency payments was written by Thomas Highwater, who is an avid fan of all things crypto-related. Mr. Highwater teaches high-school level robotics and programming.
***
While there is a growing number of fiat based-payment processors with a variety of practical tools and methods of payment, adding cryptocurrency payments into the mix provides consumers and merchants with unparalleled benefits. Some of these benefits include simplicity, lower overall cost, security, privacy and a greater level of control over one’s funds.
Reasons to Use Crypto Next Year
Also read: Wendy McElroy: Avoiding Fraud by Going Crypto-Anarchist
Cryptocurrencies are numerous and versatile and can be utilized as entirely private bank accounts and payment cards for almost any occasion. They offer a multitude of ways to earn a form of interest with little or no effort and help users protect sensitive data and holdings on the go 24/7.
There was a time, not that long ago, when cash was king and financial institutions gave generous incentives to people who chose to put their cold hard cash into institutional coffers. Today, bank accounts of all sorts, as well as debit and credit cards, have fees associated with them — money that goes down the drain and provides no benefit, never mind interest earned. There are debit and credit card fees, ATM fees, merchant fees, checking account fees, overdraft fees, paper fees, check fees, transfer fees, change fees, charge-back fees, foreign transaction fees, minimum balance fees, inactivity fees, false decline fees, et cetera, et cetera.
In comparison, popular cryptocurrency payment gateways like Bitpay and Coinpayments charge between 0.5 perecent and 1 percent per transaction. In most cases, a cryptocurrency account in the form of a digital wallet is entirely free and unless one chooses to invest in cryptocurrency hardware wallets or prepaid cards, other than the transaction fee, using cryptocurrency as money costs absolutely nothing.
2. Sensitive Data
Banks and credit institutions, as well as retailers and service providers, obtain and retain too much of their customers’ personal and financial information. Details including our name, address, employers, social security number, net worth, assets, investments, account balances, credit score, credit line, and transaction history, along with everything we do and buy, who we associate with, when, where, etc. comprise our personal, professional and financial data sets. With traditional financial institutions and traditional fiat currency, we can no longer preserve our privacy.
Cryptocurrency transactions provide an alternative by limiting the amount of transaction data to mere numbers also known as cryptocurrency wallet addresses and transaction IDs confirming that a wallet-to-wallet transaction took place. A cryptocurrency payment processor acting as a third party will typically require your name (and shipping address for the delivery of physical goods), but the rest of your information will remain private as long as you don’t connect your bank or credit card account and transact solely in BTC and altcoins.
3. International Use
Cryptocurrencies are a borderless means of exchange allowing for instant and cost-effective transactions across the world. There is no waiting, no international fees and no limitations as to who can or cannot send funds to whom or when and where those funds can be accessed. All that is needed is an internet-enabled device like a cellphone and someone without access to a banking institution is given an alternative solution with which they can pay bills, earn income, safe-keep their funds, make purchases and conduct business.
Using cryptocurrencies while traveling adds an extra layer of security and can be used as a remote source of emergency funds that can be accessed without an ID, a bank account, credit cards, a wire transfer or even a personal computer device.
4. Ecommerce
Accepting cryptocurrency online has never been easier. Shopify and Etsy merchants can select to accept BTC, BCH, and altcoins. Woocommerce and Easy Digital Downloads vendors can use WordPress plugins like Mycryptocheckout for the purpose. And then there’s Shapeshift which gives customers the choice to pay with dozens of cryptocurrencies. Shapeshift is integrated with cryptocurrency payment processors like Bitpay and Coingate, and cryptocurrency wallets like Coinomi and Keepkey.
Moreover, there is Purse.io, an online platform where users can buy items from Amazon with cryptocurrency and it is also integrated with Shapeshift, as are Magento and Openbazaar. Setting up cryptocurrency payments is super simple and quick and merchant transaction fees are 60-70 percent lower compared to fiat transaction fees.
5. No Charge Backs
Unfortunately, there are customers who make a purchase, receive the items they ordered and, perhaps, even use them only to cancel their payment. They can do this because fiat payments are not instant.
With cryptocurrencies, things are quite different. Once a transaction has occurred, there is no turning back. Funds ‘travel’ from one wallet to another, the transaction is recorded and it cannot be reversed. This is not to say that a customer cannot return an item and request a refund by communicating directly with the vendor. Of course they can. What they cannot do is place an order, pay for it, receive it and then get the sum they paid back on their account because of money back policies overseen by online payment processors and credit card companies.
Charge backs are meant to prevent fraud and yet they often accomplish the very opposite. In this instance, cryptocurrency works the same way as cash. After you’ve taken the item you paid for with cash, you can’t go back to the store with a damaged or used item, never mind empty-handed, and demand your money back.
6. Mobility
Mobile payments have become all the rage. Being able to use a smartphone in place of a credit card is awfully convenient.
From Paypal and Apple Pay to Mastercard’s Paypass and Visa’s Paywave with near-field communication (NFC) technology and modern POS terminals, getting the check has never been easier. And yet the same privacy and security issues arise as with the rest of traditional, fiat-based financial transactions, namely too much data in one place. All currently available mobile fiat payment processors store credit card information which include all of our financial information and more. Not to mention that all that data is online and on our mobile devices everywhere we go.
Cryptocurrencies are a safer digital cash option and are ideal for mobile payments by default due to their virtual, decentralized nature.
7. A Growing Market
Bitpay, one of the most successful crypto payment gateways, is processing $1 billion worth of transactions annually at a rate of a quarter million transactions per month. Coinpayments already serves millions of vendors in 200 countries and has just integrated with Bittorrent to give its 100 million users the option to pay with BTC and altcoins. Coingate serves 50,000 merchants and has processed hundreds of thousands of cryptocurrency payments, and Utrust just partnered with Payrexx and its 10,000 European merchants.
More integrations and partnerships between cryptocurrency payment processors and fiat payment processors are in the works and the market is expected to grow by 50 percent in the next two years. In particular, Foton announced plans to attract 100 million users by 2020 and offer competitive features including its own stablecoin, fiat pairs, atomic swaps, a loan and escrow service, and a payment card with loyalty rewards and cash back.
So there is no doubt: millions of merchants all over the world accept cryptocurrencies, as do tens of thousands of websites.
8. Commercial Use
It has been estimated that some 20 million people worldwide own cryptocurrency. Most others have heard of bitcoin and many plan on adding it to their portfolio.
Square, a credit card payment processor serving merchants, employers and mobile payment users, is gradually out-competing Paypal while also increasing its profits through BTC sales. The majority of Square’s merchant customers have expressed interest in accepting bitcoin core and a 2017 Cambridge Centre for Alternative Finance study confirmed that 40 percent of consumers would, indeed, like to be able to make purchases with BTC.
Countries with weaker than average fiat currencies tend to favor the use of cryptos. Turkey, Venezuela, Brazil, Australia and South Africa appear to have large numbers of cryptocurrency users. In fact, a whopping 80 percent of Australians would like to use cryptocurrencies for daily purchases. Merchants in Eastern Europe and small western European towns seem more open toward adding bitcoin as a method of payment. Even before the 2017 cryptocurrency bull market, more than 10 percent of Eastern Europeans reported using cryptocurrency in place of fiat for everyday purchases.
Crypto as Money
Nowadays, almost anything can be paid directly with cryptocurrencies: homes, condos, boats, cars, clothing, electronics, health and pet products, food, wine, accessories, plane tickets, vacations, tools, musical instruments, as well as dating services, professional services, internet services, and, of course crypto gear.
Without pointing out the obvious, let’s look at the most interesting things digital currencies can buy you:
Enjoy a Thai or Indian restaurant in Montreal or have Dutch pancakes in Aruba
Buy vintage furniture in Massachusetts or rent an office in Miami
See the Cerro Negro volcano in Nicaragua or charter a yacht in South Florida
Buy a Benz or a Beamer in California or a Rolex in Europe
The Market According to Experts
In January, a company called Bakkt, owned by the Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) which also owns the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), will launch bitcoin futures which will be settled in BTC, not cash. Its partners include Microsoft, Starbucks and Pantera Capital. There will be no leverage trading, meaning that actual bitcoin will have to be bought and owned for the duration of the contract. Given that these are institutional investors, BTC’s volume is expected to reach new heights. The CEO of ICE and NYSE chairman Jeff Sprecher stated that digital assets are here to stay and that they “have a future in regulated markets.”
It is evident that the cryptocurrency industry has grown by leaps and bounds in the past 10 years since Bitcoin was born. Fintech is transforming the financial industry and more and more people are getting onboard. Shopping in-store and online is going fully digital but raising cyber security fears, which can be drastically reduced with a broader acceptance of cryptocurrencies as a means of payment.
Do you think payments in crypto will continue to trend? Is this the route to mass adoption?

The Different Types of Indian Cuisines
India is a diverse country with diverse cooking styles. What we commonly refer to as Indian cuisine is in-fact the combination of dishes and cooking styles from across the country. However, there are certain common features present in all forms of Indian cuisines. For example, all cuisines rely heavily on a diverse mix of spices and they all make use of legumes. Curry Palace is an Indian restaurant near Cambridge that serves a variety of cuisines that include Kashmiri, Bengali, Madrasi and many more.
The cuisine of each region is heavily influenced by its history. This includes its trade relations, past conquerors and religious and cultural practices. Explore the rich flavours and types of Indian cuisines at Curry Palace, the Indian restaurant in CB24. Some of the most prevalent types of cuisines are:
North Indian Cuisine
This is the most prevalent form of Indian food. North Indian food has a strong Mughal influence that reflects the history of the region from which it originates. North Indian dishes are rich in dairy products and usually have moderately spicy and creamy gravies. Some of the common elements of North Indian cuisines are deep-fried snacks, grilled or roasted meat and curries that are prepared on a slow simmer.
youtube
Kashmiri Cuisine
