Probably would prefer indoors during the summer but he's very up for a treat! He doesn't mind going for a short mart run just to buy ingredients for a cool treat like watermelon punch or bingsu! He'll volunteer to cut the watermelon and would probably stare at it for minute before cutting it. sundays with dad!ateez
Hongjoong:
Hongjoong would try to sleep in for the day, taking in a lot of sleep as much as possible since he will be dreading the next day after - Monday. He wouldn’t be able to hear the sounds of two little feet thumping lightly on the floor, the door swinging open and his one year old son staring at his sleeping face besides him. He will stir in his sleep and turn to face the other side, open his arms and carry his son on the bed, snuggling with him as they both sleep together.
Afternoons would smells of strong coffee and baked chocolate chip cookies in the kitchen and wafting around the whole house. Hongjoong would spend the afternoon in his backyard with his son, playing with him with his toyset or letting him climb and ride on his back. And when the nighttime falls, Hongjoong loves to lay down besides his son in bed and read him a bedtime story until he falls asleep. Sunday is Hongjoong’s favorite day of the week, he gets to spend time with his son before heading to hectic days.

When Seonghwa wakes up, he would pat the bed space besides him, and when he couldn’t find you, he’d slowly get up and look for you. But a faint and sleepy smile would paint his lips as he watches your back flipping pancakes and his triplets messily eating on the little table of their high chairs.

Would wake up and already feel energized that would radiate in him throughout the day. Yunho would be pulling you closer to him, snuggling you in the still until he hears the door slightly swinging open his son climbing on top of the bed and snuggling in between you two. While you were making breakfast for you and Yunho, he would already be sitting in the dining table and feeding his son. Giggling and admiring him with little hearts in his eyes. Yeosang would already be up even if it is still early and head over to his two year old daughter’s room to greet her a ‘good morning’. When afternoon comes in, you and Yeosang would be inside your daughter’s room finger painting. The sight of his daughter dipping her little fingers into the paint and just play with the paper in front of her amused him. Yeosang would paint himself, his wife and his daughter in hehetmon.
And when the nighttime falls, he would help his daughter brush her teeth before he lets her sit on the edge of the sink. After his finished brushing his teeth, he would then proceed to do his skincare. San:
San would sleep in for the day and not wake up even when you left the bed already. His four year old son and three year old daughter would barge into the room and jump around the bed to wake him up. But even with San’s eyes closed, he would scoop them in his arms and cuddle them close to him.
In the afternoon, he would hold his children’s hands and stroll around the neighborhood before setting inside a cafe, ordering a cup of coffee for him, ade for his children and cakes. Spending time with his children are his golden moments. They then would be walking back home with new memories.
Mingi:
He would stay up late at night working on composing new lyrics and would join you in bed at around 4am. As soon as Mingi hits the sheets, he is out cold. You had to take your children away from the bedroom to let him get enough sleep. But Mingi would only wake up almost or around noon time already. And when he gets up, he’s hungry.

While Wooyoung would still be sleeping, his daughter would barge into the bedroom and wake him up with her loud screaming. Yes, his daughter takes after his loud screaming. Funny as it may seem to the boys, they find his daughter a mini version of him as she too is clingy and loud. Wooyoung loves to dress his daughter in pretty dresses and shoes and add pretty headbands to match her outfit.
Afternoons with Wooyoung and would be spent drinking cold lemonade while sitting in the pergola. Wooyoung would always ask his daughter what she did the day before and what she would like to do when she has free time, and while his daughter would answer his question, he’d be mentally taking note of it. So that on his next free day/s, he would bring her wishes to life.
Jongho:
Breakfast would be spent eating a good hearty meal while indie music or his group’s music be played around the kitchen. Jongho would be taking a bite while feeding his sons together at the same time. After the meal, Jongho would make a second cup of coffee for himself. As he claims that one cup is not enough.
As the afternoon kicks in, Jongho already prepared a bowl of cheese balls and pretzels, setting down in the living room table before pouring grape flavored juices on his sons’ cups (and on his and yours as well) and enjoy a good movie marathon.
Before bedtime, instead of reading them a story, he would sing his children to sleep. Hearing their little snores would bring a smile to his face, placing a kiss on their foreheads before he heads to his bedroom with you.

A/N: Three days till Christmas! How were finals for you all? Christmas shopping all done? I just have two more people on my list and I should be good to go. This year has been tolling, but I’m glad it is almost over. I wanted to let you all know that you’ve made this extremely difficult year so much more bearable. The time came and yet again, it was a fail.
You looked at the Christmas wrappers scattered on your living room floor as you wrapped one of Angel’s several gifts. You and Angel have been dating for three years now and he knew your peril with wrapping gifts. So every Christmas the tasks were always the same. You bought the gifts, Angel wrapped the presents. But with the club being busier this year, you told your boyfriend that you had everything handled. He gave you a look, but you assured him with a smile and a blowjob.

You went into the kitchen to grab a drink of water and finish the rest of these presents. Looking at your watch, it was fifteen minutes to six. Angel should be home in an hour or so.
Sitting back down with your hot chocolate instead of water, you placed Coco’s present on the coffee table to begin wrapping it. As you were busying yourself with that, Angel came in through the backdoor wanting to surprise you. He left his bike at the clubhouse since Bishop gave him the day off tomorrow. EZ had dropped him off so that he could surprise you. He had the takeout in one hand and your favorite cheesecake from the bakery down the street from the clubhouse.
He placed the food in the kitchen and quietly made his way to the living room where he knew you would be. He heard a train of expletives come out from your mouth and he had to hold back laughter. Peeking into the living room, he saw you with various pieces of christmas wrappers around you, highly concentrated on wrapping a gift on the coffee table. You were trying to fold the top of the present, looking at the gift before you with frustration.
“Cut the top so you can fold it better,” he heard you tell yourself. “Okay, how do I know how much to cut?” You let out a groan. “This is ridiculous. I’m going to the mall tomorrow and have the experts do it.”

“Of some sorts, I would help her with wrapping the presents and she would tell me all these stories about my tio’s and tia’s, about her and my father.” Angel smiled fondly of the memories he shared with his mother. No one could wrap presents with them, it was for him and her, their bonding time. He continued to wrap presents every once in a while, but he didn’t do it traditionally like before, till he met you.
“Maybe we can start our own tradition? You can teach me how to wrap presents and this could be our thing.” You paused. You shouldn’t have said that, the last thing you wanted to do was impose on Angel’s memories of his mother. “Sorry, I shouldn’t have said that.”
“No, it’s okay.” Angel turned to you and kissed your cheek. “I haven’t done this since my mom passed, it's nice to share this tradition with the most important person in my life.”

You managed to laugh between your tears and nodded your head. “Yes, I will marry you.”
Angel smiled brightly as he took the ring off and slipped it in your finger. He stood up and kissed you, wrapping his arms around you.
Pulling away, you looked at your ring and kissed him again. Life was hardly perfect with Angel, but you didn’t want that. You want all the imperfections you two had because at the end of the day, much like your divided task with Christmas, you two completed one another. Where one lacked, the other picked up.
And that’s what it was all about. You bettered one another.
Angel was your better half.
No questions about it.
“We really gotta teach you how to wrap mami, cause I can’t wrap every damn present.”
You laughed. “We better get started then.”

anyways: dates with jeno are either doing physical activities or plain cuddling on the couch

one time you asked him for a day in those sport grounds ?? like those places that has random games like wall-climbing, archery, and trampolines

but there are also domestic dates such as grocery shopping, helping each other babysit nephews/nieces, and the such
its obvious to every one that haechan is so soft for you

as much as possible, he wants you to feel loved bc thats what you make him feel
despite this, arguments are still there, but it doesnt go on for long
fights dont escalate as you both work together against the problem
so at the end of the day, no feelings are hurt or turned a blind eye to
disagreements are often rooted from the nature of work though, thats why every time things arent so fine, he’ll do his best to fix it
because he treasures his time with you and the love you both invest in

Prepping For: Civil Unrest
This is the first of a series of posts covering different scenarios you might want to be prepared for and what you can do now to increase your safety later. Not every scenario will apply to you - it’s up to you to determine what risks you face given your location, lifestyle, and needs.
What is civil unrest?
Examples include the Rodney King riots of 1992, the Ferguson riot and related events in 2014, and more. Civil unrest usually begins with a protest that gets out of hand, often when people who were not initially involved in the protest see it as an opportunity to get away with stirring up chaos or who use existing chaos as cover for looting and other illegal activities.
Civil unrest can be isolated to a neighborhood or city center, or it can happen in multiple locations around the country or even around the world at the same time. The nature and intensity of the unrest will influence your response.
Note: The advice in this post also applies to a situation like the Boston Marathon bombing where the cities of Boston, Watertown, and Cambridge were under a “shelter-in-place” recommendation for several days after the initial terrorist attack while law enforcement searched for the suspects.
Why prep for civil unrest?
- It can prevent you from going about your normal activities if it is occurring in your neighborhood or near your place of work. Streets may be blocked, stores may be closed, and in some cases it may not be safe to go outside.
- It can begin with very little warning. Protests and rallies happen all the time; it is difficult to predict which ones will turn violent or chaotic. In the case of the Rodney King riots, protests began within 30 minutes of the verdict and violence and looting began about an hour after the verdict. Someone who was at home and not paying attention to the news may not have known what was going on until after the full-scale riots and looting began within 3 hours of the verdict.
- It’s difficult to predict how long civil unrest will last. Some riots can be de-escalated within hours. The Rodney King riots began on April 29, 1992 and lasted until May 2nd with some incidents occurring on May 3rd, but the last National Guardsmen didn’t leave until May 27th, almost a month later.
Who should prep for civil unrest?
People who live or work in a major city (especially near the city center) or people who visit a major city center often (for instance, going out on the weekends). Since unrest can happen quickly, you don’t want to be caught off-guard while you’re enjoying dinner and drinks downtown.
Also, if you see indications that suggest national-level civil unrest may happen soon (such as a certain upcoming election that may ignite protests should a certain candidate win again), you should prepare regardless of where you live.
How to prep for civil unrest:
Preps that apply to multiple scenarios:
- Store 2 weeks of food and water at all times.
- If you are on medications, make sure you always have a couple of weeks’ worth. For most people, that simply means getting your refill when you still have 2-3 weeks left, but for some it may involve a conversation with your doctor if your medication is highly controlled (aka high risk for overdose or abuse). Explain that you are trying to follow guidelines for emergency preparedness. Caution: Do not change your medication routine (taking a smaller dose or taking medicine less often) in order to save up extra.
- Keep a first aid kit well-stocked, and consider getting a tourniquet kit in case the chaos spreads to your neighborhood.
- Keep your car’s gas tank at 1/2 full or more at all times. In a disaster, gas pumps may be broken, gas stations may be crowded, and shortages may occur.
- Keep an inventory (with photos) of valuables in your home, as well as photos of your property. If damage occurs to your home or property from any disaster event, you will want these photos to make your insurance claim. Update the inventory often. Keep this inventory on paper and digitally.
- Keep the paper copy with your other important documents (Passport, birth certificate, social security card, marriage license, property deed or rental agreement, and so on). Have these documents in a folder or binder that you can quickly grab if you have to leave home in a hurry.
- Take self-defense classes and consider taking firearms classes and buying a firearm you can safely and reliably use. You should be prepared for both armed and unarmed combat.
- Plan a bug-out location (BOL) outside your city. This may be a friend or family member who lives in another town or in a rural area, it may be property you own (like a cabin), or it may be public land or a state/national park. The important thing is to know where the location is and how to get there if your gps or smartphone is not functioning. Consider having one location that is accessible within a day on foot, and one that is further away that can be accessed by car. Depending on the disaster, roads may be impassable, you might run out of gas, or your car could be damaged or stolen. Note: Make sure that if it is a family member or friend’s house that you discuss your plans with them in advance - you don’t want to show up unannounced during a disaster!
- Identify at least three routes out of your city by car (only one of those should use a major highway, the other two should use side streets) and two on foot or by bicycle. If unrest gets severe and seems like it will be prolonged, you may want to bug out. If everyone else has the same idea, major streets and highways will get congested, forcing you to seek alternate routes. You do NOT want to be stuck in traffic if riots are happening in the streets.
Specific preps for civil unrest:
- Review the entry points to your home (doors and windows) and identify the best ways to secure them. If possible, keep plywood in your garage/shed that could be used to board windows and doors if severe unrest reaches your neighborhood. Alternatively, identify large, heavy pieces of furniture that could be moved to barricade entry points. If you choose this option, consider practicing how you would move furniture to ensure you can do so quickly and safely.
- Consider closed-circuit security cameras (I do NOT recommend internet-enabled ones for privacy reasons). These can also be generally useful if you live in an area with a high crime rate.
- Keep an eye on the news and identify events that could lead to civil unrest, such as controversial court cases, elections, and racial tensions. If you see signs that unrest may be coming, review your preps (or consider planning a vacation to the countryside). The unrest may not happen, but it is better to be prepared.
- Avoid the city center on the day when you believe unrest may occur. If you work in the city, go directly home after work with no unnecessary stops.
If unrest occurs in your city:
- If you are outside the city, stay away. Avoid all trips into town. If you have prepared, you’ll be able to go at least two weeks without visiting the grocery store. If you work near the area where unrest is happening, contact your supervisor or office and ask if it is possible to work from home or if they are closing the office in response to the event. Indicate that you do not feel safe going into town given the ongoing events. Don’t go in if you don’t feel safe - it’s better to be fired for skipping work than to be killed or severely injured in a riot.
- If you are in the city but not near the riots, stay home and keep an eye on the news. If you need to go to work, determine whether your commute will take you through the affected area and identify alternate routes.
- If the unrest is happening in your neighborhood, shelter in place and barricade doors and windows. Make sure any firearms you own are accessible and loaded in case looters try to break into your home.
- If the unrest lasts more than a few days or you believe it is moving toward your neighborhood, consider bugging out. Review the five routes you identified (three by car, two on foot or bike) and determine the one that gets you far away from the unrest as quickly as possible. Even if you have to go the opposite direction from your bug out location, it’s better to get out first and then go the long way around than to drive through or near the impacted area.
- If unrest is widespread or happening on a national scale, and especially if the military/national guard is involved, consider getting away from town completely and seeking out either your BOL if you have one in a rural area or a campground or other public land where you can stay temporarily.
When the unrest is over:
- Use caution in determining when the event is truly over. Officials may prematurely call an end to the unrest in the hope of calming the public, but there may still be people on the streets looking to keep it going. Return to your normal routine, but avoid unnecessary time spent in the area where the unrest occurred.
- If you had to leave your home, use caution when returning. If you suspect your home was broken into, call the police and ask them to check it for you before you enter. Only clear you home yourself IF you have training to do so. Watching actors do it on TV does not count as training.
- Take pictures of any damage immediately to submit insurance claims if applicable.
Final Notes:
- No prep is 100%. Things may not go as you expect, so always have a Plan B and a Plan C.
- Be vigilant. Your chances are best if you see disaster coming and act before it strikes, rather than reacting afterward along with everyone else.
- You might have all the preps in the world and then live to a ripe old age with no disasters happening to you. There’s no guarantee that any particular disaster will happen. Don’t be so consumed with prepping that you are not prepared for the possibility that nothing happens.

What could Richie say, going home that afternoon?
Hey Mom. Hey Dad. I got called a fa-- this new word today. Yeah, I’ve heard it before but hearing it as my name sounds different. It feels different.
How about to his friends?
I know we aren’t exactly talking right now, but Bowers just fucking ran into me at the arcade and-- hey! shut up and listen-- GUYS! He asked if I was trying to bone his cousin.
What about himself?
God what a fucking idiot, you looked too long. The way you looked at him. The way you touched his hand. You should have let him go. He’s not your friend. He’s not your friend. He’s not like you, not a disgusting and worthless loser with a perverted secret. What a fucking trashmouth. Filthy mouth thinking and saying filthy things...
One thing Richie never prepared for, was having to tell Eddie. Just Eddie, alone on his front steps. Granted, he didn’t have to tell him anything, but with Eddie it was like Richie’s already running mouth suddenly would attempt a marathon.
“Why are you sitting still? Are you dead or something?” Eddie laughed, already walking up the pathway to Richie’s house. Richie gave him the finger, his words still strangled in the back of his throat. It burned like he was still trying to run. “Most of us are at the clubhouse, maybe going to the quarry later. Why are you here? You hate being at home.”
“Tired.” Richie muttered, adjusting his glasses. “Long afternoon.”
“It’s fucking two.”
“Yeah.”
“Richie, what the fuck? Are you high or something?” Eddie reached up and shoved Richie’s head down, moving his glasses again. “Did you smoke in your house?”
Richie wished he was high, or something to make the harsh air hissing in his lungs feel more like a pillow than a brick blanket.
“No, fuckface. I didn’t. You think Wentworth is at least an iota of cool to fucking smoke?” Richie snapped, pushing Eddie’s hands away. “I’m just sitting.”
“That’s stupid. Sit in the clubhouse with us.” Eddie laughed, grabbing his wrists. Richie refused and Eddie’s grip soon slipped into Richie’s hands.
We don’t like our town being filled with a bunch of fucking fa--
“I’m not going! Just shove it, Eds. I want to sit here.” Richie yelled, yanking his arms back. Their hands pulled apart with a snap, their fingers clinging together.
Eddie blinked at him. “We have a hammock.” He said plainly. “Sit in it with me. Come on, Rich. What the fuck.”
“I said no!” Richie shouted. It was the only thing he could openly deny with Eddie. Everything else was involuntary-- the sweating, the blushing, the need to make him laugh, the need to annoy him, the need to see him-- the least Richie could do was push away those things he could control. Give himself a half a chance to be normal.
Eddie moved Richie’s legs and sat on the step below him. He placed his arms on Richie’s knees, looking up at him the way Richie always imagined people in love did. He nudged his glasses and blurred his vision.
“What happened today?” Eddie was asking like a parent-- or maybe a concerned girlfriend or something. Well no, he was asking like Eddie. Like a great friend, a companion.
A boyfriend, really.
No. No. No. No. No.
"I got run down by Bowers today.” Richie sighed, looking at his hands. “Chased me all the way to the park.”
“Oh fuck-- Why did he do that? I mean, not that the bastard ever has a good reason to do any of his boneheaded bullshit, but where were you when he found you?” Eddie was asking because he was concerned, but Richie began to hear his father’s echo in his voice. Asking what he was doing, where he was going, what did he say to ask for the bullying.
“Just the arcade.”
“Oh.” Eddie groaned. “Fuck that guy. He’s so fucking stupid-- looks a like a weasel, have you ever noticed that? He’s got that really like thin fucking face that just--”
“He called me a faggot.” Richie said, point-blank.
Eddie’s words died, his mouth hanging open as if new ones would just appear. “Oh. Fuck.”
“Yeah.” Richie thought by that point he’d be crying-- like a fucking girl-- but instead, he was just cold. His throat was stale and his tongue was heavy. The truth was the truth, huh?
“Wanna get ice cream?” Eddie said suddenly, sitting back. “Come on, I got a crisp ten that’s got a double scoop of gross ass mint-chocolate chip with your name all over it, Rich.”
“No, I don’t know if--”
“I just offered to buy you ice cream that is easily the grossest flavor. You don’t get to argue! Just fucking get up and grab your bike.” Eddie grabbed Richie’s hands again and yanked him up.
They both nearly toppled over; the taller one of them shouldn’t have been on the higher step. Richie clung to Eddie’s hands and stumbled down the walkway. Even after telling Eddie the truth, he hadn’t tried to avoid touching him-- his hands.
“W-Wait, where’s your bike?” Richie asked, pulling away and wiping his palms on his shorts.
“I walked. We live like, a few blocks apart.”
“Yeah but we’re going downtown.”
“Yeah.”
“Where is your bike?”
“Richie.” Eddie laughed, and pointed at Richie’s bike on its side in the grass. “You have pegs.”
“You’re gonna ride on my bike. With me?” Richie tried to sound possessive. Of the bike, that is.
“Yeah, come on. Don’t be so w--” Eddie stopped and chewed his lip. Don’t be weird. Richie had no say in it; he’d tried. “Don’t be scared-- I’m not gonna die or anything. We won’t tell my mom.”
“Okay. Sure.” Richie said. Oh, this was a bad idea.
And it sure fucking was. Richie sat on the seat while Eddie stood behind him, arms bracing on his shoulders. He called out into the summer wind, laughing and jostling Richie to try and get him to join. He focused on the road and got them to the ice cream shop in one piece-- two pieces, technically. Two separate boys. Not at all conjoined or comparable to any one, unified person or feeling.
Eddie hopped off Richie’s bike the moment he stopped. The shop had a walk-thru window-- for anyone stupid enough to not want to go into crisp air-conditioning. Which was, of course, both Richie and Eddie. They hated going inside the parlor; large masses of sweaty people covered in sticky syrup and loudly crunching on cones? Richie could already feel Eddie’s skin crawling. Birthplace of food borne, close-contact illnesses.
Eddie ordered as Richie waited by a streetlight, balancing himself and the bike against it. It was still strange-- and maybe a move of pity-- that Eddie was buying him ice cream after he’d admitted the worst thing about himself. With absolutely no denial. Even if it meant that Eddie knew that Richie was gay now, he still only took his word for it after hearing that Bowers had called it out in the middle of arcade.
God. He was disgusting.
“Alright, here we go! One fucking gross double scoop of mint chocolate chip. You know, that’s another reason you’re a trashmouth-- you’ll eat just about anything, huh? Mint? Dude, that’s like eating toothpaste.”
"Hey, at least I can handle a little variety! You only eat vanilla!” Richie laughed, taking the cone from Eddie carefully. “Are you allergic to fucking fun, Eds?”
“Hey! It’s arguably the best flavor!”
“Is fucking not. It’s like eating nothing! It’s flavorless. The base of all other ice creams. It’s like eating ice cream primer.”
“When is the last time you had vanilla?” Eddie said, crossing his free arm over his chest. “I think you need a goddamn refresh, asshole.”
He held the cone out to Richie, eyebrows raised. Richie could see the small dip in the top swirl where he’d already licked.
“No.” Richie said, pushing it away. “I’m not licking your-- not sharing your ice cream, dude. That’s gross. I don’t know where that mouth has been.”
“Says the trashmouth.” Eddie retorted, grabbing the handlebar of Richie’s bike as he wobbled. Richie was trying, by all means, to not drop the cone and speed away. It wouldn’t have escaped any of the things swelling inside of his chest, but at least he could die in solitude.

“No.”
“Rich, come on. If I’m asking you to share my food, I think it’s okay! I know you don’t have fucking weird diseases-- and I sure as fuck don’t. Just fucking have some.”

“You can’t?” Eddie echoed Richie with a laugh, but his smile fell. “Richie, come on. You can.”
“No. I-- I think I should get home or something. Wentworth is having a really big hard-on for curfew lately so--”
“You don’t have a curfew.”
“I-- I could.”
“You’ve walked out your front door at eleven at night to go swimming in the quarry with us before.” Eddie said, licking the top of his ice cream again. Richie did the same as if only to try and keep himself from sounding like more of an idiot. “Richie, man, what the fuck is going on? Is everything alright?”
They were on the sidewalk in the middle of the afternoon, any number of eyes possibly staring at them and measuring their distance, watching their expressions, reading their lips. There was nothing Richie could say there. Nothing he would want to.
"Are you deaf? I said that I’m fine.” Richie said, nearly grinding his teeth.
“I’m not blind either!” Eddie said, gesticulating his cone around. “You look like shit.”
Oh, well that was good to hear coming from Eddie. He already knew he was ugly-- that he’d “grow into his looks”, whatever the fuck that meant-- but now he had confirmation that no matter how much “beauty was subjective” or whatever, Eddie thought he looked like shit. Great. Amazing. Fantastic. Best thing he’d heard all fucking--
“I mean like. You don’t look like yourself. Your face is like, gray, man. Like, completely gray. Wiped and exhausted. Is everything alright-- besides the Bowers stuff.” Eddie said.
“Can’t it just be the Bowers stuff?” That was all Richie could hear. Over and over and over and--
A blink. A pause. The acceptance of a secret. “’course it can. Yeah. It can just be him. I mean, the guy’s a total fucking dickwad-- doesn’t fucking know anything.”
“Right? What a douche.”
“A fucking shitpile.”
Richie laughed and it hurt, but in the best way. It was the shattering of something old that had formed. Something he didn’t know had built up. He hadn’t said anything-- hadn’t incriminated himself in any way-- but he was no longer alone. He was safe, but he could still be so with his best friend. It could count as lying if Richie really looked at it closely-- but he didn’t want to. He closed his eyes and breathed slow, trying to pretend he was stopping his laughter rather than any possible tears.
“Wanna go home? Go to the clubhouse?”
“What so you can get spiders in your ice cream?”
"Fuck you.” Eddie said, hitching his leg over the back of Richie’s bike. He wrapped his one arm across Richie’s chest and kept the other at length, ice cream unable to drip on either of them. He rested his chin on Richie’s shoulder. “They probably all went to the quarry by now, so we can just sit-- talk if you want.”
Richie’s feet were on the pedals but he was frozen, nearly toppling them over. “O-Okay.”
“I mean, we don’t have to-- it can be about whatever. Like when you’re gonna get a fucking haircut.” Eddie laughed, spitting out some of Richie’s hair that had curled into his mouth. “Hell, I’ll fucking cut it myself.”
“You wouldn’t dare.” You wouldn’t dare touch me like that-- be so close on your own.
“Snip snip, Richie.” Eddie teased, clapping a hand on his chest. “Come on, let’s go before your Colgate Cone melts down your hand, shithead.”
“Don’t tell me what to do, dickwad.”
“If you don’t start pedaling, I’m going to nose you with this cone.” Eddie teased, faking- out nearly smashing the cone onto Richie’s face. Instead, he reached across Richie’s chest with the arm and licked the cone. It grazed his face, getting a sticky stripe on his cheek and a bit in his hair.
“You’re so bossy when you’re on a sugar high.” Richie said, settling further on the end of his seat, letting Eddie sit on the back.
Richie started pedaling, trying to get out of sight of the sidewalk as quickly as he could. He knew he wouldn’t be able to hide his smile, but didn’t want anyone to catch him with it-- catch him with Eddie, resting his head against Richie’s.
This time, he wasn’t doing anything. He was just biking when Eddie grabbed him, comforted him. Richie hadn’t done anything wrong, and he could feel the thinnest ray of warmth-- of that summer sun and wind-- cracking through his chest. He could finally breathe.
Bowers was probably right; Richie was exactly what he said he was. But, biking across town to the clubhouse, it was maybe the first time that Richie had ever felt okay about it. Felt good. Felt even the tiniest, vanilla-spotted bit of happiness for it. Maybe Bowers was right, but being there-- being with Eddie and letting himself lean against the comfort of someone safe and silly and sweet-- was too.

“Stop waiting for things in your life to get better and MAKE changes to make your life better.”
This is something I’m getting really tired of hearing from people. Something people don’t realize about life is that sometimes when you actively do things to make your life better, there’s still a lot of waiting for those things to take effect. I’ve been going through a very difficult time all year. I really really hate my job. I deliver food for a fast food restaurant. Sometimes I have to carry 50+ lbs of food on my back, walk for miles (they don’t give us bikes) and carry it up 4-5 flights of stairs, sometimes in the pouring rain, boiling heat and freezing cold. When I’m not making deliveries, I’m in the dining room cleaning, taking out the trash, running and bussing tables, running dishes to the kitchen, helping customers, mopping, sweeping and stocking supplies. Sometimes I even help with food prep. The only thing I don’t do is wash the dishes. Now you’re probably thinking, “oh, well that doesn’t sound that bad.” Well, try doing that while the room is spinning, you feel like you just ran a marathon and the chemicals in your brain are telling you to kill yourself...and this is all before you even start your shift. I have thyroid disease, vertigo and a vitamin D deficiency. All these things make my job unbearable. I’m constantly exhausted, depressed and dizzy. Not to mention, I have a communication disorder so speaking to people is very difficult as well. My immune system is compromised. I got an infection on my hand after only working there for a couple of months because the restaurant is always filthy and it’s my job to clean it. My finger swelled up so much that I couldn’t bend it. Since I didn’t have medical insurance, I had to prick myself with a needle and drain the pus myself.
I have been trying like hell since I started this job to find another job. And of course, I keep getting rejected.
So here are a few things I’ve been trying to do to improve my situation aside from applying for jobs:
• I’m a freelance illustrator and I’ve been trying to put myself out there and try to get commissions to make some extra money. But of course, I can’t just assign myself commissions and give myself money, I have to wait for people to commission me and I’ve actually gotten a few commissions this year. I also tabled at an art show last month and sold a few prints and copies of a novel I wrote.
• I illustrated a children’s book for free as part of a deal so that the author and I can go into business together. However, I’m still waiting for the author to get the book printed. I’d like to emphasize the “waiting” part. This isn’t going to happen overnight. I need to WAIT.
• One of my former teachers got a grant to work on some short films and he wants to create a short series of pilot films/episodes for a film series. I showed up to every meeting for these discussions always prepared with my script, always on time and always willing to take the next step toward making this happen. It’s been a couple of years since we first discussed this and during the past couple of years, we’ve had to WAIT for him to get that grant. Now that he has the grant, I need to WAIT for him to return from traveling so that we can start filming. More waiting. Not much else I can do at this point.
• I reached out to the dean of my college and the program coordinator of the pre-college program that I graduated from in high school to ask for help with finding work. My college’s campus has a career services office which I’ve visited. I asked for help with finding a job at this office and all they could tell me was that I wasn’t going to find a job on Indeed and that I need to reach out to other alumni and network in order to find work--which I’ve already tried. So now I need to WAIT to hear back from the dean and the coordinator to see if they can help me find a job.
Story Time: The school that I attended is a not-for-profit university and while I was attending the university, I had a very difficult time securing enough financial aid to remain in my classes. I came close to dropping out because of this. I got a meeting with the financial aid director of my school and they told me that since I was in that pre-college program and I spent so much time in high school volunteering and I came from a poor socio-economic background that the school had a responsibility to help me finish school. So, they gave me extra financial aid to dorm and they helped me secure a work-study job. Now that I’ve graduated, I still need help from my school to find a decent job. As a matter of fact, I got my first job after I graduated because one of my supervisors from my work-study job found me a job. And then I got laid off less than 6 months later...
• I recently had to retake my learner’s permit exam because my permit expired and I didn’t get to take driver’s ed yet. I haven’t taken driver’s ed yet because I’ve been more focused on trying to find a better job, working on the children’s book I illustrated, dealing with my medical issues and just the day-to-day bullshit. I also haven’t had the money since I recently moved out of my mother’s place and drained my savings and whatever money I had to do so. So yeah, I’ve been pretty broke these past few months. Now that I’ve retaken my permit test and went into more credit card debt paying for that, now I need to WAIT for my new permit to come in the mail so that I can start driver’s ed. My girlfriend and I plan on moving to California someday and that’s going to be very difficult to do if we can’t drive. I know, all the Cali people are going “well, you don’t necessarily need a car.” Well, when I visited Cali, my friend and I had to do an obscene amount of walking through the suburbs to get anywhere after getting off public transportation. And having to take trains and busses between each city also takes a lot of time. Having a car would be so much easier. But we’re going to wait until we actually have the money for all of this which won’t be any time soon. Also, a lot of arts-related jobs require that people know how to drive because if you work for an arts program or gallery, they ask people to transport art pieces. So if I get my license, I’ll have more job opportunities in general. But like I said, this isn’t all going to happen overnight. I have to WAIT. • I used to work as a teacher’s assistant for a non-profit but I quit because they kept running out of money to pay us. But I recently discovered that they increased their pay rate and that they’re hiring. I really hope this means that they’ve solved their funding issues. Anyway, I told them that I want to work there again because, at this point, I rather work anywhere else. I actually liked working as a teacher’s assistant too. It was easy and sometimes fun. So I have a meeting on Monday, that I have to WAIT for to discuss my availability and where they want to place me. So I already technically got the job, we’re just going to discuss my scheduling for the job.
• I am also writing a new novel not only as a possible way to make money in the future but also as a form of therapy (since I can’t afford actual therapy right now because my “health insurance” is a scam). I’ve also came up with an idea for a TV show and my teacher suggested that I apply for a grant to create a pilot for it. I have over 50 pages of an outline of events that take place on this show. I made a documentary in high school so I know a little about filmmaking but I don’t yet have experience making fictional films so I am going to WAIT until I have experience with the film that I’m going to be making with my teacher so that I know what the process is like and so that I can use it as a way to hone my writing/directing skills.
• I’m going to be applying for medicaid today since my health insurance is utter crap but I heard there’s a WAITING period as they figure out if the applicant is qualified so I’m probably not going to get that any time soon. But when I do, I’m going to try to find a therapist and/or psychiatrist.
So in conclusion, I may complain a lot about my situation and I have the right to do so because if I just kept everything bottled up all the time and never complained, I’d probably be having a panic attack every day like I did yesterday at work and like I did last summer at my last job. I get really mixed messages from people about how I’m supposed to go about dealing with my struggles. I get people telling me that if I’m going through something that I need to talk to someone; that I need to talk to them about it. But then when I do, they often tell me to just suck it up and be glad that I have a job and place to live. However, just because I do doesn’t mean that I have a decent quality of life. For example, my apartment has bedbugs and I’ve called the housing office (which has abysmal reviews), 311, the borough president’s office and they haven’t done anything about it so my girlfriend and I had to take care of it and they haven’t completely gone away. My health insurance doesn’t cover any of my medical expenses and I’m paying out of pocket via my paychecks for it. Doctors’ visits are very expensive. I’m currently almost near $3K in debt and that’s just from getting a splint for my wrist and getting testing done at the OB/GYN’s office. I feel like our society has been so conditioned to believe that as long as you’re not homeless and you’re making minimum wage, you should be happy even when your medical insurance company is trying to drown you in debt, you barely scrape by to pay your bills every month, can’t afford to go back to school and you’re living in a bed-bug infested apartment. In other developed countries, people don’t have to struggle the way that we do. Their tax dollars pay for everything including medical care and college. Their public housing is also better too. So you could live a good life going to school, working part-time and living in public housing in places like Germany but here, in great ole’ America, we have such a terrible quality of life that it makes people want to kill themselves.
So to anyone who wants to tell me to shut up, suck it up and do things to make my life better, you can shut up now.
