on a more serious note i do genuinely think at worst s2 good omens directly ripped off supernatural and at best supernatural set a standard for an entire genre of TV related both generally to a post-Earth afterlife and specifically to the christian bodies of heaven and hell. it's fascinating to watch shows like Good Omens, Lucifer, Miracle Workers, The Good Place all try to follow in Supernatural's footsteps and do what it did without ever attempting to harness the central tenet of the 15-year-long saga which is: none of it is on purpose. the show is about humans and organically, accidentally, contrary to the very explicit beliefs and aims of the showrunners, the story becomes about the very nature of the universe. it's not about angels in gray suits.

also i don't think that the british have anything very interesting to say, at this juncture, about human nature and the potential limits of christian mythology and infrastructure

I know I've not played destiny as a regular thing for a year now so my opinion on this doesn't really matter

but I don't understand or like the decision to change strength, discipline, and intellect to just be named "melee", "grenade", and "[super(?)]"

destiny 2's general feel, atmosphere, and tone is already significantly less mysterious and wondrous than d1 — which isn't necessarily a bad choice, and the improvements in character work and story are arguably worth the loss of those aspects (they're still present to a degree, but I still think they're far stronger in d1)

and while I get the idea behind it, namely,

"we want to make the game less daunting for new players and making everything's function and purpose crystal clear and idiot-proof is a good way of doing that"

I think trying to make your game appeal to people who couldn't be bothered to hover over the stat icons in the inventory to figure out what they mean, or just google "hey, what do these stats that tell you what they do if you hover your cursor over them do I don't know how UI works"

is kind of uh. well, it's a choice.

I don't understand stripping out bits of your game's identity and character (even if they're relatively minor bits) to bring in that sort of player.

I know the names of stats isn't all that important in the wider scheme of the game, but as someone who enjoyed that the stats were a little opaque in their naming scheme and felt like a part of the setting when I started playing, with your character's actual intellect, discipline, and physical strength determining the rate at which their abilities recharged, renaming them to the most gamified, generic, "this is what this thing does" [stat=respective ability] thing annoys me more than it probably should

it's like a less egregious version of renaming striker "electric puncher" and hammer of sol "throwable fire hammers"

or if you renamed all the weapon perks to just be their exact function

like, sure, which of grenade recharge and super recharge is governed by discipline and intellect could arguably be impossible to tell by their name (I don't think you can make an argument that strength governing melee is unclear), but when discipline and strength are represented by a grenade and a fist, I think it's already obvious enough.
