Summary: After a hurtful comment at a fundraising event, you wonder what really bonds Tommy to your child. 

A/N: Ok, so as I previously mentioned, I edited some of my old stories and will be reposting one per week. This is the first selected!

"Do you want to sit?" Tommy whispered in your ear, your hand went straight to your belly, moving up and down, where you baby rests and patiently waits to be born.

"No, I'm fine, just take this gin away from me, otherwise I'll be tempted," you pushed his glass away, "are the cute kids working?" 

"The wives look more excited than the men, but yeah, four huge donations until now," 

"In less than two hours? That's a new record!" 

This was probably the best business idea you ever had. The inauguration ceremony of the Shelby Institute for orphaned children took place in a cozy room, with closed windows and lighted up fireplaces, the cold breeze freezing the bones of anyone who dared to attend without a coat.

Months later, spring came to warm your bones and put a self-giving feeling into Thomas Shelby's heart. In the middle of a boring, typical week, he arrived home planning to uplift the structure of the institute's building. 

He told you the idea during the night, with his hand resting on your pregnant belly and although he didn't tell you what made him come up with it, you could clearly see his line of thought.

Tommy could rarely afford nice things, there was no gentleness in survival and for most of his life, that was all he did. Finally, with his rise to new money, he could provide something he never had to children who look too much like him - comfort. Also, being seen as a charitable person would do no harm to the business.

The small change of plans you suggested put a smile on his face, instead of making a typical fundraising dinner, why not make an afternoon tea? The invitations encourage couples to bring their children, seeing those innocent little humans running around shall make them remember why to donate.

A mansion with a huge garden was rented for the event, maids were hired to look after the children and butlers served biscuits and hot cups of tea. For your surprise, the event had more children than adults, most couples - including you and Tommy - were outnumbered by their children. 

Your eyes ran through the garden trying to find your little ones, the younger one was the easiest, no place was safest than inside your own mama, but it was better to keep an eye on the other three. Marie Louise Adler, whose hair looked exactly like yours. The twins, Henry and William Shelby, except for the eyes, are small versions of Tommy, from the physical appearance to the mannerism.

Quickly, you found William trying to teach one of John's girls how to use a slingshot. A few steps away, Henry had a handful of biscuits and carried a toy car made of wood.

"Where is Loui-'' before you could ask, a collective ugh followed by a child's cry got your attention.

Louise was under a tree with her knees on the grass, the hem of her yellow dress covered in dirt and the left leg of her white stockings ruined, exposing her bruised knee. Tommy reacted faster than you, his hand slid through your waist as he ran in her direction. You quickly followed after, rolling up the sleeves of your dress.

He picked Louise up, she put her arms around his neck and seemed to calm down a bit. A maid tried to apologize for neglecting your little girl, but you were too focused on following Tommy inside to answer.

Curious eyes followed your trio while you crossed the hallway and once you were in a private room, Tommy tried to put Louise on a sofa, but she didn't want to let go.

"C'mon, love," he encouraged, making her lift her crying face from his neck and allow him to sit her down.

"What happened, Lou?" you took her hair off her face and her stockings off, watching out to not brush her bruised knee.

"I was trying to climb on the tree, but I got scared and slipped up," she brushed off tears with her tiny hands.

Tommy took a napkin and wetted it with gin, after kneeling in front of the girl, he asked, "And what did me and mama say, eh?" 

She looked down, ashamed of disobeying.

"You can only climb trees when me or daddy are around to help," you rubbed her back, trying to comfort her.

"I'm sorry," she pouted.

"Now I have to clean your knee, it's full of dirt," Tommy held her leg.

"No! It 's gonna hurt!" she pulled her leg back.

"Just a little, but don't think about it," you sat at her side, holding her head to your chest, "think about the delicious cake I'll get you when we get home!" 

"Can we get some too?!" William, who'd been peeking the whole scene from the door, suddenly yelled, Henry tried to shush him and ended up being dragged by the hand into the room.

"Boys! How long have you been there?" 

"It was William! He had the idea of following you!" Henry quickly accused.

"That 's not true! You were curiou-" 

"Alright, boys, it doesn't matter," Tommy silenced the argument before it started, playfully hitting the twins foreheads with the napkin.

While you were distracted by the kids, Tommy had taken care of Louise's knee and the five of you were finally allowed to go back to the event.

Louise insisted Tommy should carry her, Henry and William took your hands and the eyes of many guests softened to the vision of you walking together. 

Soon, the kids dispersed in the garden, Tommy got the attention of charitable housewives, interested in donating to the institute, you leaned on an empty table, sipping your favorite juice and smiling at anyone who crossed your way.

"Mrs. Shelby!" an old woman walked to you with a huge smile, "I must say, this is the most diverse charity event I attended in years!" 

 "Oh, thank you so much, misses…"

"Thompson, Aline Thompson, nice to meet you," she shook your hand. "you don't drink?" 

"Usually I do, but I'm pregnant," 

"Darling! That's lovely! Your husband is already so lucky to have two kids, now one more!" 

"Three," you corrected her.

"Pardon?" 

"Thomas and I have three children, Henry, William and Louise," 

"Well, if that's the case, I guess you're the lucky one, Mr. Shelby indeed treats the girl as if she's his," 

"Hm," you pressed your lips together. "may I ask who told you Louise isn't Tommy's?" 

"It's written in the guest list, Y/N Adler Shelby and Louise Adler, I'm sorry for Mr. Adler, I'm sure he was a good man," she smiled, "now, if you excuse me," 

Aline left you with teary eyes, how dared she speak about your family like this? But what if…? What if she was right? Did Tommy really love Louise? Did he see her as his daughter or an extension of you?

"Seven, Louise falling over had a good effect on them," Tommy held your arm, telling you about the new huge donations.

"Really? That's great, love," 

"Are you alright?" 

"Yeah, just a bit tired," 

"I'll tell the driver to take you home," 

"No! There’s still a few hours to go,"

"Ada will take your place, most of the guests are leaving already anyway,"

"Oh, alright then," you drawled.

"Will you take the kids?"

"Yeah, I think," you looked around, searching for them, "just Louise, the boys look like they're having fun, can you look after them?"

"Sure."

The way home was quiet, Louise had asked to rest on your leg and fell into deep sleep, Frances helped you to carry her to bed. After a well-deserved bath, you had put some foundation's papers in order so Tommy could add today's profit without any problem. Night was falling and all you could do was wait for the rest of your family to arrive.

Heading upstairs, your eyes fixed in a spot they usually didn't, the family painting. It took months of persuasion for Tommy to agree to pose and even longer for it to be done, since he only agreed to give away two hours of his agenda. 

Your heads leaned together in a sign of unquestionable affection, Louise sat in the middle, where your right and Tommy's left leg stuck together. William was on your left leg and Henry on Tommy's right, they were less than two years old and didn't get a characteristic Shelby haircut yet. All in all, you looked like a family, no one would dare to say otherwise, unless Aline Thompson.

The sound of the front door opening followed by the maid's heels told you Tommy arrived, you decided to wait in the stairs and he showed up alone.

"Where's Henry and William?" you asked with furrowed brows. 

"At Ada's, they wanted a sleepover with Karl," 

While you both walked upstairs, he had a hand on your lower back and you realized he didn't ask about Louise, the very first thing you did when Tommy arrived was to ask about your kids, Tommy didn't even bother, probably because Louise wasn't his.

Time passed quietly, Tommy took a bath and asked a few questions about the paperwork, you told him to add today's profit and nodded to whatever else he said. Night could have been good, or at least, peaceful.

He sat on the bed looking through his paperwork and his sudden warning made your jaw clench, "You have a doctor's appointment scheduled for tomorrow, so be home when he arrives," 

"What for?" 

"To check on our girl," he answered without paying attention.

"How do you know it's a girl?" 

"This pregnancy it's different from the boy's," 

"Oh," you lay down, turning your back on him, "I'm glad you at least care about this girl," 

He sighed and you heard him writing something, a few seconds passed until he asked, "What did you say?" 

You didn't answer.

"Y/n, what do you mean?" he touched your shoulder, trying to make you look at him.

"Nothing, Tommy, nothing," 

"No, what the fuck you mean with this girl?" 

You sat up, taking a good look at his face before questioning, "How many children do we have, Tommy?" 

"Three and another one on the way," he harshly answered and you sighed in relief.

"This is what you say to everyone else, right? Not just to me," 

"Yeah, y/n, of course, why would you fucking ask that?" 

You teared up and Tommy's face softened, he cupped your face, catching some tears and patiently waiting for you to speak.

"You only have three, Tommy, the twins and this one," you rubbed your belly.

"Who said that?" he looked at you with disbelief.

"It's the truth," 

"Louise is my child,"

"You know she's not, I know it, you know it, and-"

"Y/n-" 

"Aline Thompson fucking knows it," 

"Who 's Aline Thompson?" 

"It doesn't matter, Tommy," 

"It fucking does, if there's someone around saying Louise isn't my child, then I have to know," 

"It won't change the facts." 

"Listen," he moved closer to you and cupped your face again, "Louise is my child, I'm raising her, she's a Shelby." 

"Then why didn't you ask about her when you arrived?" 

"I asked Frances, she told me she's sleeping since evening," 

"Oh," your cheeks heated up, ashamed of this huge misunderstanding. 

"Who's Aline Thompson?" 

"A stupid woman at the charity tea, she said I was lucky for you treating Louise as your own," 

"Lucky, eh?" he nodded, "I bet her husband has a deal with the Shelby Company," 

"No, Tommy!" you giggle.

"Oh, just a few pounds to lose,"

"Tommy! You're mean! Not that she doesn't deserve it," 

Hesitant knocks on the door made you stop laughing, you and Tommy switched a look before he got up and opened the door.

"I'm sorry to bother, Mr. Shelby," a young maid holding Louise's hands apologized, "but Louise wants to sleep with you," 

Too sleepy to speak, your daughter rubbed her eyes and walked past Tommy, climbing on the bed and laying near you. 

"Right, thank you-" 

"Oh, also, Mrs. Thorne called, the twins want to come home."

Let’s talk about Armand’s speech.

First of all, he starts it out in third person:

“This is Amadeo, he's 20 years here.”

He purposely distances himself from his past. Honestly, I think that he disassociated for much of his young life, as we see here:

“He was rescued from a brothel when he was 15, named named Arun then, I think. I cannot be sure. The abuse in the brothel was such that he cannot be sure that's what his parents named him. Arun. The parents that sent him to work on a merchant boat in Delhi when in actuality they had sold him into slavery to the ship's captain. All fragments.”

All fragments. A clear indication that Armand was dissociated. And who would blame him? He also refers to his parents as “The parents,” which distances even Arun from his parents.

“Shackled on the boat. The brothel.”

Not even using a personal pronoun, mirroring his own feelings of depersonalization.

“My maker's purchase. His renaming me. His reluctance to share the Dark Gift, knowing what it would do to his beloved Amadeo.”

Adding in first person pronouns as we shift to Amadeo, indicating that he feels more connected to that time in his life.

“I served him with all my heart. Basked in his mercy, his worshipful mercy.”

And we can see why here. Armand felt more human here, with his vampire master than he did with human beings. The monstrousness of the vampires is often mirrored in their humanity.

“Still... Amadeo had a skill. And if a friend wandered into town, I was occasionally... donated.”

We can see kinder words being used for what Marius did to Armand. After all, Amadeo had a skill, it would be a shame to waste it.

“Meatier in the forearms, but then this was... seven years before I was stricken with illness, before I was turned, and imbued with my powers.”

He was turned when he was less useful, presumably less attractive to Marius.

“And Armand? The name the coven in Rome gave me. After they set fire to the studio. Set fire to my maker.”

Based on how Armand uses language in this speech, he would prefer to be called Armand. He is no longer Arun or Amadeo, as those parts of his life are over.

“And sent me to Paris, to reign over the coven abandoned by Magnus. Magnus who begat Lestat. Lestat who begat Louis. On and on. And on and on and on.”

Armand doesn’t know who he is outside of an abusive relationship. This is extremely common in people, especially those that have been abused young. Armand doesn’t know what love feels like.

“Who am I, Louis? I am my history I have endured? I am the job I do not want? I do not know anymore. No one has painted me in over 400 years.”

Who is Armand? In the end, I don’t think even he knows. He wants someone else to tell him.

WHERE DOES IT START? ARUN, AMADEO, ARMAND

- My personal reflections on Armand's names in Interview with the Vampire (show version)

“Who am I Louis?” Armand asks while staring at a painting of a boy that only he would ever be able to recognize as himself. He stares at what is supposed to be his essence captured forever on a canvas, and yet the kneeling boy is a stranger to him. When he asks Louis this, he is earnest. Armand does not know who he is, and this lack of identity crushes and torments him. Armand seems to constantly define himself by his attachment to other people or things, such as a “servant”, as “the job (he) did not want” or as someone’s “companion” because he has never known anything else, he is never just “Armand;” he does not know who that is.

This is further reflected in his names, and the fact that despite having several none belong to him. First there’s Arun. This is supposedly the name he was born with, but even he is not sure of this due to his memory being clouded as a consequence all the horrors he suffered as a child. This name is not his, it is a name so linked to the abuse he endured that it has become the name of said abuse rather than the name of a person. His use of third person when talking about himself as “Arun” signals both a coping mechanism to distance himself from those experiences as well as the disconnect he feels from the identity attached to the name.

Then, there’s Amadeo. A name given to him by Marius, not only linking him directly with his maker and master but with God and worship, the name meaning ���lover of god”. This name is also not his, but rather a projection of what Marius saw or expected in Armand. This is what we see in the painting, an ideal: a submissive, worshipful, whitewashed Armand degraded to kneel at the same level as the dog behind him, “basking in (his) worshipful mercy.” Regardless of how Armand did embody this role of worship and servitude during his time with Marius, that painting is not him, it is the fantasized construct that is Amadeo, who doesn’t really exist. When you think about it, Amadeo being a projection of those around him is not entirely different to “dreamstat” being a projection of Louis. This is of course largely my own interpretation and not fact, but I think anyone can agree that who is being portrayed in that painting is Armand only in name. It is simply another example of his body being used for a purpose, an artistic one in this case, his true essence and even features entirely forgotten and replaced by Amadeo’s. So, that name and the identity attached to it wasn’t entirely Armand’s either. Much like “Arun” being tied to his parents abandon and the brothel, Amadeo is trapped in the painting: just another property to be “sold” or “donated;” what Armand has always been treated as.

Finally, there is the name we call him by now: Armand. A name given to him by the Roman coven before sending him to the Paris coven, a collective that he is now supposed to lead and put before himself as an individual. It is a French name, a place he had no connection to before-hand and that only further distances him from who he might have once been, forcing him to adapt and assimilate into the new role he has been chained to. The name is a role in itself, as it means “soldier.” Furthermore, he is not a simple leader to this coven, he is the somewhat paternal and religious figure through which the coven; his “children,” serve Satan and through him, God. He is part of a “murky trinity” as Lestat calls it, a twisted parody of the holy trinity. So, “Armand” is once again much more than a name; it is another projection the lost and abandoned coven latches onto. Of course, they mostly refer to him as “maitre,” the implications of which I’ve already discussed in a different post. In this case, the dual titles “Armand” and “Maitre” are parallel to “Amadeo,” they both link Armand to the concepts of owner and God, except the roles change from being the owned worshiper to the worshiped owner. It remains someone else’s image, someone else’s name, one that prevents Armand from exploring who he is without it.

Armand does not have a name; how can he know who he is?

Even now he seeks the answer in Louis where he will not find it. There are, however, moments in which this seemed to be challenged. For example, shortly after meeting, Armand asks Louis to address him as such instead of “maitre” as his coven does. It is a moment in which he takes agency over what he wants to be called, a privilege he has never had before. Later, Louis calls him Arun as a way to indicate that he can see the person that lies behind the roles he plays, and that he can be himself around Louis. Yet these moments are still tainted. The name Armand does not reflect who he is, and in the conversation with Louis, Armand falls into his old patterns by addressing Louis as “maitre.” Plus, Louis too will go on to misuse this, but that’s a whole other topic. These instances, though revealing a more loving and honest side to Louis’ and Armand’s relationship in which they allow themselves to be open, they can not give Armand a sense of self. No one but himself can, and yet he doesn’t know how that is. It is a tragic never-ending paradox as immortal as he.

I HATE book!film!Louis. It's actually a very popular opinion, esp. wrt film!Louis--there's a lot to hate, without ever getting into morality politics--from his plethora of stupid life choices, to his hypocrisy, to his whiny attitude, etc. And wrt to pimps & slavery specifically, we can get into all the ways owning & controlling people's bodies, freedom, & autonomy/agency is effed up. But where exactly does LOUIS exhibit any of that behavior towards Armand--book, film, and esp. on the show??? 🤔

Almighty all-powerful all-gifted uber-privileged vamps can get away with literal murder: Lestat can spitefully beat the hell out of Lou, Armand can sadistically torture HUMAN!Daniel, the coven can gleefully kill Claudia & Madeleine (who literally did nothing), Armand can petulantly drive the mentally ill (Nicki & Louis) to suicide--but disenfranchised weak AF desperate HUMAN!Black Louis is "worse" than all of the vamps, cuz he was a pimp who tried navigating the crap hand he'd been dealt the most effective way he could? 🤨🤨🤨

What did Louis do as a human pimp that makes him so much "worse" as a person than Armand is? Since when does AMC/the show or Lou absolve himself of guilt for being a pimp OR a vampire? In Lou's eyes, evil is evil, and he doesn't give vampires a pass AT ALL--eff all the "biological imperatives" Rashid was simpering about. Since when are demonic serial killing cannibals given a pass in the IWTV Morality Olympics, over prostitution? Cuz prostitution & vampirism BOTH exploit human vulnerability & weakness & bodies, and by the show's logic, one is no better or worse than the other--ALL vampires on this show are COMPLICIT as predators feeding off the lives & miseries of humans. Santiago only used the stupid "vampires are monsters" excuse to justify his personally-motivated vendetta to kill Louis, dismissing Lou's experiences to absolve Lestat's flagrant abuse of power against the man he claimed to love whom he knew was weaker than him and thus intentionally "broke."

The whole point of show!Loumand's dynamic is right here:

ARMAND, the 400+ year old Coven Master, stalked & approached & invited & courted LOUIS. Louis never spoke or utilized his past as a pimp when they met. Armand knew Louis was afraid of him ("I thought he was going to kill me....I sensed his ancient power"), and he promised Louis (who'd suffered from SEVERE PTSD after the last older more powerful vampire broke every bone in his body), that he would never hurt Louis, "and I never have," LOL.

In ANY of Loumand's courtship, where does Louis having formerly been a pimp give him ANY advantage over Armand, or the coven? 🤔

Where does pimp!Louis factor in as the "gross" part of their meeting & courtship--when Lou explicitly told Armand & the whole coven that they were NOT companions, and that he had ZERO interest in Armand tryna RECRUIT Louis to join Armand's coven (*cough* CULT *cough*)? 🤔 Who's pimping whom in this situationship? 🤔

Esp. since Claudia's the one who was actually recruited, to try to lure LOUIS in as the one they REALLY wanted to join, so offended when Lou refused ("[Madeleine] must join or die."). They used the same Charles Manson-style cult tactics on Claudia AND Louis!

Rolin explicitly used Charles Manson music in 1x5, but y'all keep missing the links between Lestat & Armand's treatment of Louis & Claudia to talk about how Armand was groomed & abused--by WHOM?! Certainly not LOUIS! And here the tags go AGAIN tryna link Louis with Marius. 🤦‍♀️ (I cannot WAIT till y'all show-onlies actually see Marius in action, not just picking up crap from hearsay.)

Where is Louis the predator out to harm Armand? How is Armand the one being "grossly" threatened by Lou, pimp or otherwise? When did Louis rape Armand, or pimp him out, or "donate" him to someone else? For all Louis' claims that "he's mine" cuz Lou got to top someone who's not his Maker, how does Louis actually come out on top or benefit, being with Armand? 🤔

For all Armand's simpering about "Are you asking me or making me, Maitre?," where does Louis FORCE Armand to do ANYTHING? Louis states what he wants to do/happen (make Madeleine for Claudia; save Daniel from Armand killing him), and Lou gives Armand the CHOICE to do it it or not. Armand could've had the whole coven descend on Lou the night Lou made Madeleine (as we see in the movie, which clearly noticed the same thing)--instead, we learn that he was actually writing/rehearsing the Trial script the whole time jfc 💀💀💀. He could've snapped Daniel's neck, and what could crispety!Lou have done to stop him, hobbling around all burnt up? But he complies, cuz he'd already sabotaged Loustat's chance to get back together by not telling Lou that Les said he loved him; instead CHOOSING to stay with the man who literally just said he's bored & hates being with Armand & literally just tried to kill himself rather than be with Armand anymore--like WTF???? But ARMAND'S the one who's been in danger from Louis!? 🤣 THIS dude!?

OK, Lou was a pimp, but Armand was running the frikkin vampire MOB in Paris--a literal biker gang of Charles Manson sickos! An effing wet room full of offed "heretics and rule breakers" (inc NICKI, who was NEITHER--SUS!!!) buried in the frikkin walls of his torture-basement, but Lou's "worse" for being a HUMAN!hustler, when Armand's a whole cult-leading mobster his effing self!?

On top of the legit torture we see him do to HUMAN!Daniel, playing with his effing food worse than anything we saw Lestat pull in S1.

How does Lou having been a pimp protect him from Armand lying about "Banishment," or having his mind wiped for 77 years, or Armand going behind Lou's back to tear out Claudia's diary pages Lou didn't even know about, or Armand throwing Daniel (& Sam & the Talamasca) under the bus to keep gaslighting Lou about the script?

Where does Louis abuse Armand's trust, lying to control Armand's actions? When has Lou hobbled Armand's bodily autonomy, and the thing Armand can(not) physically do? When did Lou donate Armand to other people? Or act outside of Armand's boundaries/consent?)

The whole point of IWTV is to emphasize LOUIS' vulnerability, and how it's constantly exploited & abused by people more powerful than he is--from humans in NOLA & Romania/Eastern Europe, to vampires in Paris, and especially Lestat.

Armand knew immediately that Louis & Claudia were lying about Bruce being their Maker, cuz he's THE best vampire with the Mind Gift. He knew EVERYTHING, and told Louis to his face in 2x2 that Louis's a terrible liar who can't hide anything or keep secrets from him--just like the last older more powerful vampire read Louis' thoughts & used them to seduce him; "Come to me, Louis."

Armand & the whole coven were Europeans who'd never even met an American vamp before--but they knew Louis was a pimp from New Orleans with a whole failed sugar plantation--cuz they they read his mind; what Claudia explicitly called "invaded their thoughts." Santiago called them BOTH out in 2x3 (more subtly with Claudia but straight up explicitly with Louis, as someone whose mind they could all read way easier than hers).

It especially confuses me when show fans complain all about pimp!Louis being with Armand on the show; but make no noise about slaveowner!Louis being with Armand in the books? (Or they're against pedo!Marius being with Armand, but make no noise about pedo!Lestat being with Armand? Let alone Daniel (who, unlike Marius & Lestat, is NOT an Old World European vamp from a different time period with different morals/ethics), or any adult attracted to a 17 year old's body--including book!Louis?) People have shipped Loumand for decades, yet it's only once Lou's a pimp (amongst other things....) that people suddenly care about poor innocent Armand being abused by the evil thug jezebel who got Armand's daughter killed and lied to Armand about his Maker and allowed Armand to be tortured & humiliated by the public with his ankles slashed open & buried alive for over a MONTH so he couldn't escape? 🙄😒

The Vampire Armand is only ever beaten TWICE: by Santino & the Children of Satan in the books, and by Daniel on the show. That is IT. NO ONE else gets the jump on Armand, or gets the upper hand over him--he's not even one of the ones Rhoshamandes kidnaps! NO ONE effs with TVA, or effs TVA over--HE'S the boogeyman of the vampires preying on his own kind, not the other way around.

The sheer IRONY of Mr. "I Could Not Prevent It" Armand as a character is understanding cycles of violence.

You're missing the whole point of AR/RJ putting the former sex slave Armand in relationships with a slaveowner (book) or a pimp (show). ALL of AR's vamps are sympathetic villains, not cuz one is morally/ethically "better or worse" than the other--arguments have been made even to understand Rhoshamandes & Akasha's perspectives. YES, Armand had horrible things happen to him--but LOUIS is NEVER the one who does those horrible things to him, nor does he EVER benefit from Armand's past. Armand ALWAYS had the advantage over Louis, pimp or no. STOP overestimating the Maitre stupidness! AMC already told y'all what that was about!

But y'all pointedly isolate every other vamp from culpability & accountability under the thinly-veiled guise of caring so much about the freedom/autonomy of people's bodies, when really it only serves to spread hate & vitriol for Louis. -Louie is VERY particular on what he wants, and how he likes things. His bed isn’t made the “correct” way? He can’t sleep. His pasta isn’t cooked how he does it? Won’t eat it.

-Despite his job, I feel like he really is a caring and good person inside. He cares about other people and their well-being, even for strangers. That’s called empathy. He donates to charities with the extra money he has!

-When Louie was little, about 8-10, he met Tony, and became close with him and his family. Louie only had his mother, who was a lady of the night, left him alone at home for hours with no access to food or water. Eventually and thankfully, Tony’s mother found out about the horrid reality of Louies life, and knowing her, she wouldn’t turn a blind eye and let it happen, oh no. Tony’s mother told Louie to pack a bag, and tell his mother that he’d be back soon. But- he wouldn’t. He would go to America with Tony’s family, and become a D’Amico.

-Louie is a VERY cuddly guy. He must be holding onto something 24/7, or it doesn’t feel right.

-He is an overall sensitive and gentle man, but I feel like that was obvious, as it was shown a lot in the show.

-Louie is a big overachiever to the MAX. He needs to be perfect. if he fails even once, he gives up. He tries telling himself that he will be loved either way, but he doesn’t believe himself in the end.

-This poor man forgets to take care of himself all the time. He’s too worried about getting killed! Luckily, Legs is an amazing friend, and reminds him from time to time to take a break for himself.

- He has bad dental health. Crooked teeth, cavities, rot.. I mean, it is hard to take care of yourself when you have a job like him, right?

-If he wasn’t a mobster, I feel like he would be an astronomer, because he has had an unusual infatuation with space and isn’t afraid to yap to Legs about Nebulas and supernovas.

-He is also the youngest out of the main 4. He is older than Frankie, though. Frankie is the youngest of all of them.

I am so intrigued to hear all your thoughts on Armand as a lapsed Muslim hello 👀 as, like, a semi-lapsed Muslim myself I have so many thoughts on what Islam looks like for Armand and I’d love to hear your version if you’re willing to share!

(disclaimer, I am in no way an authority on Islam, especially how Islam is practiced outside my specific Shaami/Egyptian community. this is just my interpretation based on my personal experience. i can also not emphasize enough how lapsed I am, I have forgotten 90% of the sunnahs)

aaaaaaggh thank you I am so grateful for your ask!! I will have to dig around and find the source but I love the take I saw either her or on twitter that Armand has been alienated from his own culture because his culture no longer exists (both because of the fall and semi-erasure of the civilization in which he was raised and because his trauma and unwillingness to acknowledge any part of himself that existed before Marius), as well as Assad's (I think it was Assad, could have also been Rolin Jones) insights that Armand code-switches like crazy both in culture and in attitude for the sake of his survival. It resonated with me as an experience that so many immigrants and Muslims have had and really grounded his character in reality, despite the fact that he's a five-century old vampire which might be hard to relate to.

Taking that along with his specifically non-Arabic recitation of the Asr prayer (him saying 'asr namozi' instead of salat al-asr, although wikipedia is telling me that namozi is specific to uzbekistan which could be intentional or just a script error) meant to me that his observation of Islam was a personal choice that he has kept up over the course of his long, long life rather than just a front intended to sell his performance as Rashid. Now, this could be untrue, because I have no idea how much intention the show-writers put into that single moment (or when he has Malik try to reach the mosque before sundown, which although very warped, is also pretty Muslim) buuuut I would like to believe that it's true and that Islam, in whatever form he learned and internalized it over his life, is something he genuinely practices.

OKAY NOW ACTUALLY GETTING TO HOW I VIEW HIS BELIEFS OR AT LEAST WANT TO VIEW THEM, I see Armand's practice of Islam both as a cultural ritual that gives him normalcy and comfort, which he mentions as something very important to him during his days leading the Paris coven, as well as a very personal and maybe not fully realized version of reckoning with his own existence. When he's discussing the idea of evil with Louis in Paris (in episode 2.3 I believe), he counters Louis very Catholic view of killing as a single, unforgivable sin that catapults one into hell, with a view of evil as a gradient (interestingly, this is a direct quote from the book, which posits Armand more as a very Cristian-influenced atheist), but the idea of gradiation in evil is something that reminds me so much of the concept of haram in Islam and how many Muslims in my community believe of it (the halal-haram ratio, if you will). Doing good deeds, showing your devotion to Allah/God through recitation, donation, etc., are all important and worthwhile even if you also also commit acts that are haram, whether that's drinking alcohol, blaspheming, committing aldultery, and in Armand's case, a ton of murder. I see this echoed in how my famiily practices, how myself and my gay friends practice, and even how Muslim characters are portrayed in literature like the Palace Walk series by Naguib Mahfouz. It also especially echoed how I and other gay Muslim people feel as an irrifutable part of ourselves is viewed as inherantly haram, and specifically how we reconsile that with ourselves and our faith. I personally don't see my homosexuality as a sin, but that took a long time for me to come to terms with, and a lot of gay Muslims still view their own sexuality as haram, and process that alongside their faith.

I also think that debate and introspection is a central tennant in Islam, which you can see through masjids becoming the worlds' first universities, as well as through how masjids make time for discussion and questioning during Jummah. The fact that Armand and Louis bond over debates of faith felt extremely Muslim to me.

Although it's very likely not Quranic in nature, the balance of belief and ritual with acts of 'sin' is extremely Muslim to me, and that is exactly what Armand does. The way I interpret it, it's the only way he can live with himself, with his horrific trauma and guilt. Catholicism (a religion I was also raised with), is very all-or-nothing, and that's a source of Louis' trauma. Some versions of Islam are also like that, but so many are not.

Part of the reason I have this account is because I love to highlight the beauty and the thoughtfulness of Islam, because it is so rare for any Western media to show. It's demoralizing and infuriating to only see Muslim people as either terrorists or victims, and it's a big part of the reason I latched on so much to Armand in the show.

Okay that turned into a massive essay, so apologies for that, and I'm also sure there are a million points I'm forgetting. If you (or others) have any points that you also want to bring up, please feel free! This topic brings me so much joy.

Since I finally had the courage to start posting, I had to talk about this before anything.

Albert and William's relationship. (Hopefully Louis next 'cause he deserves so much more than what he gets in the manga)

This is really long so you may wanna scroll and move on👍, but if you are prepared to read through a probably hour-long ramble of these two then you're welcome and very much appreciated 🫶

⚠️Mentions of suicide/suicidal thoughts⚠️

Chapters 62-63 discusses it anyway so let's go by them:

Before William, Albert was sickened by the way society operates (the whole "upper class is yay and working class is ew" system). He tries to change things locally, since, as a child, his changes were small, helping out at the church, buying the kids at the orphanage books and donating money (in this case, asking his father?) for necessities.

He knows he, alone, can't change it and is actually satisifed with the fact that whatever he does would still make things better, even if a little.

His views about himself change when he comes across a man who stole bread. He pays for everything that man has stolen and gets him a job (at the church/orphanage), believing he had done the right thing. What does that man do? Try and steal the silver cutlery Albert brought for the church.

(Side note: I love the refrence to Les Miserables, a favourite french novel of mine, in which the mc Jean Val Jean steals bread but the kind Bishop of the town sees him and pays for everything Jean has stolen. The Bishop gives him a home, but Jean ends up repaying him by stealing the Bishop's treasured silver cutlery. Now that sounds familiar, huh. Jean is caught by the police and brought to the bishop to confirm whether or not Jean is lying about the bishop "giving him the cutlery". Instead of confirming that Jean was lying, the Bishop smiles and says yes he gave them to him, and proceeds to give him a pair of silver candle-stands saying "You left in such a hurry you forgot these". Concluding, Jean promises himself to live an honest, better life after meeting someone like the Bishop. (Jean becomes a symbol of equality between the nobles and the commoners, helping the poor and never patronizing it)

Albert hopes his actions are seen as that of the Bishop for someone. That someone would be so moved by Albert granting them a second chance, that the person would become better and try to better the world as well, and so he does that for the man. Though that backfires horribly, and the man kills someone/himself (it wasn't clear in the translations I read if he unalived himself or someone else).

This takes such a big toll on Albert mentally he decides he's the "wrong" one born into the wrong world, not the "right" one born into a wrong world. So he decides to unalive himself (reading that ch. for the first time hurt). But doesn't have the courage to, which makes him feel worst.

WILLIAM FINALLY COMES INTO THE PICTURE AND SAVES HIM IN MORE WAYS THAN ONE AND THE WAY THE WHOLE PANEL JUST GOES FROM DARK TO BRIGHT? ALBERT'S EYES ARE SO CLEAR UNLIKE THE PREVIOUS PANELS WHERE THEY ARE DARKENED.

William not only returns Albert's beliefs that the world itself is wrong, he affirms it, and the fact they haven't even spoken yet when this happened says alot about what's to come.

"He existed, here in the same world, someone with the same soul I had"

Excuse me while I sob about how much I love the characters' interactions and relationships in this series.

Anyways, Albert investigates him and finds out about the trial William won (that's a topic for another day for sure because that trial was lowkey funny to me). He realizes William is the one with the courage to change the world. And so he talks to him, and William's response further lightens up Albert.

WE'RE BACK ON WILLIAM BEING A SUN THING AGAIN, WILLIAM'S LIGHT NOT ONLY SHONE ON ALBERT. HIS BODY AND SOUL HAVE BEEN "BURNED" BY IT.

Ahem anyways, even though William had the "wisedom" and "courage" Albert desired, the "courage" wasn't enough to make that ideal a reality (at that time, Albert didn't actually believe William was serious about killing). He, Albert himself, also lacked that courage and wisedom.

That's why, he asks of William to give it to him, the courage, not just courage, but the courage necessary to kill and continue to do so until the ideal world is achieved. As well as the wisedom to achieve that ideal world through these killings. (since obviously killing without a thorough plan would just be pointless mass-murdering)

Now William leads the way for Albert by killing Albert's biological brother, og William, and I headcannon (since we don't see William's face while he kills for the first time) that William sucked it up and (maybe) showed Albert a relaxed/nonchalant face to make Albert feel better about doing what he wanted to do for sometime now but couldn't. With profound courage, Albert choked his mother to death.

Friendly reminder for the next few ones that William is canonically a "kind child".

Here Albert's interpetation of William as a child is a bit off (William later kindly refutes the whole "making no distinction between good and evil"). But it goes to show how Albert saw William, and seeing him in this kind of light heavies the guilt of what he asked of him.

I loved all the religious references in this chapter but the forbidden fruit Adam and Eve had is my favourite.

This panel ALONE says alot about just how important and precious William is to Albert. Albert also places more guilt on himself by saying that he ignored William's "screams" even when he knew. But the fact Albert knew in itself says alot because if there is one thing William never discloses about himself, it's what burdens and saddens him, so Albert and ONLY Albert knowing shows how much William trusts him. (again, William later states that Albert was actually the closest one to know of William's true grief AND comfort him).

Albert finaly realizes. The courage and wisedom he "borrowed" from William wasn't a one-time thing he used to take his first steps. All this time, he has been using it as a light leading his way and now that William is gone, he's lost again.

ALSO I MIGHT BE TAKING THIS TOO FAR (it's getting too much but I am an overthinker🤷‍♀️) BUT THE WHOLE LEFT CORNER PART OF THE PANEL BEING DARK AND THE "DOOR" SIDE BEING THE ONLY LIGHTED/WHITE SPOT. AND THE FACT THE ONE BEHIND THE DOOR IS WILLIAM. IT'S LIKE IT'S JUST YET ANOTHER INDICATION THAT WILLIAM IS ALBERT'S LIGHT.

Andrew's 4th Letter and Who's With Him

(Doing this for @LEx2THA on twitter's request)

We know:

3-0-1 is Andrew, 3-1-3 is Antonio, and the Will brothers (Polun) are with them. 3-?-2, 3-1-4, and 3-1-5 are the unknowns.

Polun I suspect is 3-?-2, as Andrew's 3rd letter mentions 3-?-2 and 3-1-3 having "noticeable emotional expressions". Based on Polun's personality + the fact they wear masks, they'd fit the "noticeable emotional expressions" descriptions. Then there's how in their 2nd letter, they mention Andrew started avoiding them after they asked him to "play a supporting role in their performance". This matches with Andrew in his 3rd letter stating he avoids 3-?-2 (and 3-1-3).

And Polun's 2nd letter mentions them getting dizzy after a feast, and 3-1-2 is described to be 1 of the first to be affected by the drugged wine during a "dinner party".

3-1-4 and 3-1-5 are harder to determine.

What we know about 3-1-4 is that they are polite, have themes involving trauma and faith, and are eliminated after being involved in arson beneath a stage.

My best guess at the moment is that 3-1-4 could be Sangria, who also has themes of faith and trauma in her story (faith related to the red lady, and trauma such as how her father beat her offstage and saw her as a toy). The ending of her backstory and deductions, where she leaps into a fire after a performance would fit with potentially being eliminated after a fire near a stage.

My current issue with her is I'd like confirmation Sangria is alive/real (not saying she is or isn't, just I wish I was more certain), as dead hunters aren't participants of the games (ex: Mary, Wu Chang, etc…).

There is Matthias, who we know burns Louis backstage and causes his parents' deaths would relate to the arson/elimination bit too, but the faith bit doesn't seem to fit with him.

There is someone like Ann, who does have faith themes in her story, but we know she's with Alva (based on her 2nd leter), who doesn't appear to be one of Andrew's teammates, and ergo I don't think she's here either.

That leaves 3-1-5. We know that they're good at disguising their true intentions, at sensing other's emotions, are hostile to Andrew, and wear a "facade created through acting" (uses when he lies to Andrew via fake praise). And they may eliminate Andrew and 3-1-4.

Honestly, based on the little we know about Florian from his recent trailer, I wonder if he may be 3-1-5. In a sense he is in the "spotlight" based on the whole bit with him being a "miracle" and how he "learned to play along with the stories" to receive more sympathy and donations, though we know from his trailer and hints from his backstory that he likely starts a fair number of fires (like in the scene where he drops a match with some nun not far away). So he would be the type not to be bothered by endangering or eliminating others. And it's also possible, based on his outlook about his parent's love still being with him, just "absorbed into the flames", and him being a miracle due to their sacrifice, which alleviates his pain at not seeing them, could be why he might be hostile to Andrew.

Andrew's mother did all she could to protect Andrew, but Andrew wants to die to be with her.

Compared to Florian, who may believe he is a "miracle" resulting from his parents' love, parents that did all the could to protect him.

Maybe he'd dislike the idea of Andrew throwing away his life after all his mother did to protect him?

I don't know, it's a bit hard for me to describe my thoughts rn, but hopefully I got at least some of it across.

(And we really do need Florian's deductions to know for sure.)

2nd of january — some babygate blog gets sent a screenshot of the school freddie goes to. they post it and blurred some details. freddie goes to a public school asking for donations. all hell breaks loose again, with people questioning why louis’ kid is in a public school and not a private one, like his sisters were. i’m pretty sure this counts as doxxing since now some people know the name of the school

today — a twitter page was created by some solo louies dedicated to “protect” louis and report any tweet that they decide is offensive to louis. i don’t fucking know. twitter is a shithole

For me, last nights concert was like the curtain being pulled away from the Wizard of Oz. I was so excited to see him perform, especially with a professional stream. I’ve been to a handful of shows and watch a lot of live streams from fans. This is really hard to admit, as well as a sad realization, but I just can’t gloss over it. Louis sang maybe 2/3 of the time. He skips over words, his band sang the whole time even when he was telling the audience to sing long stretches of a song constantly. At first I thought it was nerves or he was sick. But his speaking voice was strong and healthy. And I think the whole speech he made about his fans letting him do whatever he wants, whether he wants to stand at the mic the whole night being in a bad mood etc was an absolute insult to his fans.

I hate more than anything to admit that he’s not a good performer, it’s been hidden in my excitement when seeing him in large crowds, or being streamed in the middle of super fans singing along. He closed his eyes while performing almost all songs, and added zero energy to match his fan’s excitement. There was talk for weeks about how everyone thought this show was going to be so special and the love for him donating the cost to the children’s war charity. He didn’t bother do anything different - not even adding one new song, and I’m not aware of him mentioning the charity and all the support his fans gave it.

Sorry this is so long, I just feel disappointed. He is so loved and is capable of so much. It seems like he’s self sabotaging and directing and thanking his fans to go along with it. I hope he can get back to some vocal coaching and away from this attitude of he doesn’t need to do anything to be loved and draw huge crowds. It’s a shame.

I'm sorry and i feel your disappointment. He's capable of so much more and we as fans deserve more. I think it's funny because most artist who aren’t the best vocalists make up for that in other ways to not make it so apparent. They dance, have a choir or back up singers and back up dancers. Have big screen visuals, wear bright clothes, do a costume change, hang from the ceiling, you name it. Since Louis doesn’t, all the focus will be on his voice and on him at all times.

He always says he's a glass half full person, but he constantly points out his own shortcomings on stage and shows signs of nerves and low confidence. It's not contributing to people having a good time, so why is he doing it? He says he's a truthful person and doesn’t want to lie, but it's killing the vibe? It's not instilling trust in him that he's done his best to do his best? Also, i totally agree that the comment about fans letting him do what he wants was absolutely an insult to us fans. He insults us enough as it is, and this comment was unnecessary.

Stevie Dylan's birth to high school

Stefan Raphael Harkness, Aurora Four’s guitarist and main songwriter, also known as Stevie Dylan or “King” as his stage name, was born 29th of March 1998 to Nicholas and Lola Harkness. Nicholas Harkness always been a mysterious figure that we have just gotten answers to. At that moment in time, Nicholas Harkness was a business mogul and owner of Harkness incorporated, that had their hands from business world to entertainment industry. He was also known as a close friend of many public figures from politicians to millionaires. Lola Harkness, also known as Lola Ray, was an adult entertainer and a model two-decade junior of Nicholas. Lola was Nicholas’s fourth wife, and second affair turned marriage.

Nicholas Harkness also had a daughter from his second marriage named Evalyn Harkness, also a known key figure of the trial of Aurora Four. There are little proof of what kind of relationship the two had growing up, but, many have suspected it to be poor, considering the two were quickly to throw each other under the bus during the trial. We do know that Evalyn was highly favored by Nicholas because of her academic achievements and contributions to the Harkness incorpirated in her free hours. Every school Evalyn studied at has Nicholas Harkness donated gymnasium, library, or something else with his name on it. None of the art schools Stefan went had nothing like that.

There isn’t much of Stevie before he went by his nickname. Due to his father’s career, both kids were lived in pure social isolation, only appearing in photos of school friends or other friends. Stevie was popular of the kids, appearing in photos of dozens of parties and social gatherings, or just in a group pic of best friends that seemed to change every month.

Only place where you can see what kind of person Stevie was before high school was on tumblr, where an account called @Dylanreincarnated, who was going by the name Stevie Dylan before Aurora Four was even a thought. Some might think it’s a coincidence and the account were never proved, but the substance of the account is also more than enough proof in itself. Most of the posts on his tumblr were old quotes of 70s and 60s rockstars, aesthetic pictures of the lives from those same eras, and any resource for learning anything about music. It was almost like a stereotype. Here and there were posts about his unhappy homelife and toxic relationship with his father and sister. The last post is about how he had run away and was finally happy and free. No one really know if it was real. No one, but Stevie and the Aurora Four at least.

if you look up the terms ‘child born with a silver spoon in her mouth’, a picture of Charlotte La Bouff would pop up. From the very moment the girl was born, the world revolved around her – according to her dad, and who was she to question that? Her father a wealthy businessman, Charlotte was given everything her heart desired and more. She never had to lift a finger, and she had people catering to her every whim. Living the high life had never been more luxurious.

Charlotte met Tiana, her best friend and dearest confidant, through their dads – Tiana’s dad an employee of her own dad.
