Now that I've read the KR text of the game and fully realized who Shamil and Pyuba are actually supposed to be, I think of how many artworks and fanfics probably wouldn't exist if those people knew, too, and I both shake my head in sorrow and feel this little sardonic giggle bubbling in my throat lol. Lovely art and beautifully written fiction proudly depicting the wrong people as wrongly as possible. Would trading them all away in exchange for proper understanding of the true story and characters be a trade any of us would be willing to make? Just something to think about, I suppose I wouldn't miss most of it tbh. ShadowVanilla has mostly devolved into regular horny yaoi slop anyway

On another note, a big reason I've been struggling a lot with writing a ShadowVanilla fic I've had in my drafts for 400 years is bc I keep worrying that I'm writing Shamil "wrong". I kept leaning away from the silly clownish behavior+dialogue bc I'm not used to writing characters who sound... like that (characters like that usually irritate tf out of me lol). But now I see that I've been writing Shamil correctly after all - I've unknowingly been writing the Korean one and not the English one! I feel infinitely less dumb and useless now, so thank you x1000 for showing me I was on the right path all along 🙏🙏🙏 (thank you for your hard work doing these translation in general, they've been very enlightening)

Fr fr. I barely even took so much from En Shamil when I made analysis posts about him back in Ep 7 release because his character still felt so underwhelming that I had to resort looking into the plotline, the emotions found in his trailers or the character design. (And in terms of fanart, I lonly liked the more serious depictions of his character before translating the Kr version.)

I will never forgive En localization team for removing MOST of the clues about Shamil's self loathing in Ep 8 to become some silly marketable character (I can't even explain how many times there is). And how they took away Pyuba's "Jesusness" despite being literal Cookie Jesus by making him sound overly polite and gentle through his dialogue, contrasting Kr Pyuba's stern kindness and sincerity. And Pyuba's Awakening title as well. The quality of being Compassionate has ALWAYS been present for him through all of the story. His entrie plot line in ep 8 was UNDERSTANDING Shamil, not pity him. "Let me be your... friend." and "I want to be your friend." are NOT the same nor they feel similar in tone. The former sounding like he's sorry for him, while the latter is a DESIRE and an invitation Shamil couldn't escape PERFECTLY MIRRORING Shamil's intentions of wanting Pyuba to stay with him forever.

SO MUCH in Ep 7 is so diluted as well and I hate it. The first translation I've actually seen was the part where En said "other half" when it's actually "lesser half" in Kr that I clocked that it's actually him thinking so highly of himself when he's clearly self-loathing (which perfectly fit into my favorite "Control Freak" character category paired with a "Hope Personified" character.)

People may like English Shamil's lore, but that's the DILUTED (and tumblr sexyfied™) version of him, meanwhile I come out of the Original Korean Shamil lore dragging myself across the floor covered in blood.

How does Wolfstarjily acquire baby Teddy? 👀

This is such an interesting question, and one I actually never thought about! Tbh I'm pretty rigid on some stuff sometimes, and this is one of those: if a kid in canon has two biological parents, I will always write said kid to have those same bio parents in my fics. If I want a childless ship to have kids, I make up my own.

So! In this case, it would mean that somehow, Remus and Tonks did the do and poof! baby Teddy was here. Now, how would this happen? Well, after careful deliberations (= I was trying to sleep, my brain said no), I've come up with four possible scenarios for you!

Scenario #1: In which Remus is extremely oblivious™.

Jilypad is very into Remus. Remus is very much not realizing it. Remus is still trying to prove he's into women (he's not, he's very gay, Lily is just an exception), so he somehow ends up with Tonks. Either it's a one night stand or a legit try at a relationship (I would go for the second I have a hard time seeing Remus going for one night stands), but either way a pregnancy happens!! (Is Tonks the pregnant one? Is it Remus? Who knows, not me.)

While preparing for his upcoming parenthood, Remus finally starts to realize both the subtle hints Jilypad has been dropping around (said hints haven't been subtle nor hints in several years but whatever works) and also his pining for them.

And so they (finally) end up together with a baby Teddy coming along very soon <3

(Bonus point for Tonks being a good friend and helping Remus coming to terms with the feelings™, and also laughing at him, bc she deserves it.)

Scenario #2: In which we're serving angst.

I'm thinking something along the lines of Wolfstarjily being together for a while. Maybe it's a bit recent, maybe it's not, but in any case Remus gets in his head, or overhead things, and starts thinking he's not good enough for them, that they would be better off without him. Maybe there were too many difficult Full Moon back to back, or many there's a baby (Harry?) coming along and he panics.

Either way, he breaks up with them and runs away. ~Something~ with Tonks happens, and so here's a free baby Teddy!

Ofc I can't see Jilypad letting him leave without any kind of closure and they would hardly accept his flimsy excuses. So they probably go after him/try to contact him.

Now I'm not sure where to go from here — maybe they find him pretty easily and after a lot of emotions™ they manage to work it out and he comes back. Maybe in this case Tonks comes by weeks or months later with the news of her pregnancy and it brings up a whole new can of emotions. Or maybe they're already aware of it. Maybe it takes years and Teddy is a toddler when they meet again. Maybe it takes them a long time to get back together.

(They will get back together, because I'm a slut for happy ending, okay.)

But *wave hands* that's the general idea behind this one!

Scenario #3: In which I don't want to think about it.

An expected one but one I wouldn't write/think much about because I tend to dislike this trope: cheating.

For [insert reason here], Remus cheats on Jilypad with Tonks. One of them unexpectedly ends up pregnant. There's a lot of drama. Also a happy ending? 🥺

I genuinely don't know how to work this one, though. Why would Remus cheat on the amazing combo that is Jilypad is beyond me!! Is he high? Drunk? Did Tonks shapeshift into one of them and he didn't realize? None of those sound very IC to me rip.

But! It's a possibility, so I'll put that here and let your imagination do the rest <3

Scenario #4: In which we're having crack for dessert.

Tonks joins them for one night for [reason]. Or maybe it's just for Remus and Jilypad watches. Or something like that. Let's say it's a birthday gift.

Pregnancy happens! Either Remus or Tonks, I'm not picky (side-note: Tonks being fascinated to discover she can get people pregnant would be very funny).

Now Sirius has to explain to his favorite cousin why and how he's going to coparent a kid with her daughter. Do you think he opens the conversation with "Your daughter knocked up my boyfriend"?

The point being: they're silly on main. Nothing serious to be seen here. Let's just all have a nice giggle at Remus' depend.

OK... SO... BODYSWAP THOUGHTS™... that may or may not be coherent

both of them instantly do not enjoy being in each other's bodies. other than the logistical nightmare of what the hell is happening, Rex and White Knight are very physically different! there's the adjustment period where WK suddenly is much smaller and Rex is suddenly much larger. Rex is more built than most teens but like. WK is a slab of a man. bouts of vertigo are common.

that's on top of being an EVO vs. not being an EVO. I've briefly touched upon it in the fic itself but Rex has been in constant communication with nanites and technology for his entire life (that he remembers) and that's 100% normal to him. he knows "people can't communicate with technology" but he doesn't really understand that, you know. suddenly he's in a human body, everything's quiet, and that specific human is likely the most isolated human in the world.

UH. the rest under a readmore.

(White does send his rubber ball through the magnet into his office which Rex initially thinks is a rude sarcastic gesture but he thinks WK might actually be trying to make his own office more? livable??? but then Rex is like oh! he's in a prison as well. just like my room was. on another note White does keep his exosuits in a room attached to the office but that's behind a lock and he refuses to let Rex use them bc it's a major security breach. + the Consortium would know something is up + WK doesn't want to smuggle him out. honestly it wouldn't be too difficult to but it's not like WK ever had a reason to look into how to escape, other than to wrangle Rex)

Rex is going to get stir-crazy in there. he's got nothing to do. there IS nothing to do in there. ends up reading a bunch of the books White has stashed away in there but tbh there aren't many books. at least they somehow have a similar taste in books. ends up logged back into the system somehow if only to requisition more reading material! and anything else entertaining that can survive the magnet! and another blanket! and like, a chair maybe.

he's lucky that 80% of the time I hc that WK has a room attached to the office and I didn't hit upon the 20% of the time I feel like he doesn't and he sleeps on a mattress right next to the desk when writing this fic

and you know... while he's there in Providence with WK's credentials and looks and boss power... may as well snoop around... maybe even try to make things better...

body language-wise Rex is much more open and cheery (sometimes forcing a smile), but also is more unsure of himself at certain points. he wouldn't be able to nuke a city block basically, even when he had to. when Six sees White's body on the screen, smiling and joking around, suddenly he sees pre-bleaching WK.

and NO. he is too stubborn to do things like "TALK TO PEOPLE". Rex in his body creeps him out anyways. he's all... happy. he is not taking this time to reflect on what that means for Rex's life, much less his own. for now at least.

White is in a sensory nightmare where his panic is also telling his nanites to help him and that freaks him out even more. before bleaching he's always been much more social and tbh way more like Rex but now? he's used to being alone. he's fine with being alone, even, he tells himself. in Rex's body, he flinches from human contact, he's nauseous from nanite communications, he can't make any of his builds bc his mental state is a mess, he's overworking himself, and he's losing control. he can barely cure anything since he can feel the nanites being extracted.

Rex communicates with nanites but WK tries to control them.

he COULD likely build exact copies of Rex's builds if Rex jotted down his mental blueprints, or if WK studies his builds through old footage hard enough to get a grasp on how they work. turns out White has a knack for engineering (his exosuit, his mechsuit, King's Road, etc). HOWEVER this is a lil spoiler for the fic 🤫 but since he made his own mech and he knows it like the back of his hand it's actually easier for him to make parts of his mech as builds instead. I'll probably draw this sometime. Rex with WK's mech arm!!! cool!!!

for his body language he's VERY closed-off. and trying to be intimidating in a body very different than what he's used to combined with his general scowly-ness makes him sort of read like... an extremely moody and rebellious teenager to people not in the know. puts up with some of the soldiers treating him like garbage too.

(Rex expects White to be living it up out there, indulging being able to be outside of the office again...! instead he's still isolating himself. Knight's like there's no point. I'm going to be back in the office. I don't want to get used to it.)

OKAY I ALMOST FORGOT TO PUT IN: White is very aware that Rex's body can get amnesia again and he will forget everything about himself. in that case he doesn't want Rex to be trapped in the office so he's ready to have his amnesiac self swapped anyways.

Rex is very aware of that too and is like, it would be unethical to stick a complete amnesiac into WK's position. he's ready to take the hit!!! they butt heads over this.

White Knight being freaked out all the time is not helping re: his nanites going into overdrive. gotta calm down, WK!!!

I do have a scene in mind for Knight at Noah's house (ordered by Rex)(so WK can go outside) and it is so awkward. Noah going on Reddit to ask what the fuck to do if your ex-boss for a shady job that you got fired from but you still kinda hang out with your ex-coworkers is like. at your house scowling while watching cartoons. (but he's still watching???)(intently???????)

Honestly this is basically hype man/crying shoulder Zevlor headcanons bc as someone with chronic anxiety and depression I... think about this a lot

• If a loved one or child comes to him distressed about something he'll drop whatever he was doing and give them his full attention.

• He may hold himself to an irrationally high standard, but he'll never expect the same from anyone else (except maybe his soldiers in Elturel).

• He'll be their voice of reason, but if they want someone to just listen, he'll gladly do that too !

• In fact, I think at the grove if anyone wanted to "get away" without leaving (not that he would let them anyway) they could go to the secluded chamber and chill out in silence. He wouldn't say a word to them unless they wanted to talk.

• Additionally, if anyone came out of shock for a moment and had a meltdown and nothing was working, someone would eventually rush to get Zevlor as a last resort. He was busy strategizing their survival, but he was a commander and one of those duties was keeping up the morale of his people even when things were bleak.

• If someone says they've been feeling down for a while, he'll pull one of those "Why didn't you tell me sooner?" then won't let them answer before he says "It doesn't matter, thank you for telling me now," and pulls them in for A BIG WARM TIEFLING HUG

• He'll give advice when asked and will listen when prompted, but sometimes if someone isn't doing what they should be (like when its 3pm and you're still rotting in bed) he's good at gently urging.

• Rubbing his hand on their back or shoulder, asking if there's anything he can do to help, etc. He'll compromise and indulge them for a moment, but only if they promise to Do The Thing. He'll even do it with them! Ugh damn this bastard and his high charisma!!

• He'll also go out of his way to make sure they're his priority the rest of the day or until they feel better. If they tend to isolate and want to be left alone, he'll leave a snack or a cute note for them to find. If they want a distraction, he'll offer to go for a walk and people watch or play a game. And if they just want to be held for a moment, he'll be more than happy to oblige : )

... You know suddenly the fact that Raven had a decoy Maiden is suddenly in question if that was for her sake. Because Ozpin who Raven does not trust in the slightest has to know the details of her semblance. And so would Summer, suspected to be with Salem. Putting aside the question of whether either would - the fact that threatening Yang would get a highly elusive and hard to catch Spring Maiden to show her face wasn't known for over a decade. And relevant with the Relics of knowledge locked.

Okay I'm suddenly chewing this because Raven gets super mad at Ozpin for "What he did to [Qrow] and me" - and if you're right they are secondary keys Raven would have reason to be absolutely pissed upon finding out if Oz didn't say that at the time. Her semblance would make that a walking hostage crisis to anyone that can't defend themselves. And she runs specifically after Yang, someone who had no choice in the matter was born. (If she found out after Yang was born... No wonder she despised Oz) This also adds another layer to that talk in front of the Spring Vault if Raven burned her relationship with Yang to the ground to sell the lie she didn't care. Then with the weight of one of possible two locks off her back, the burnt/never built bridge that she can't talk Yang down because no trust after years of silence. Yang with one arm gone, already permanently harmed from the shadow war. Years of silence, Vernal dead and burned relationships all for naught ... Also if you're right about Raven being drawn into a trap by a threat to Yang - the parallels with how the audience first knowingly saw her. (And it lines up with how we saw her for the first time at least symbolically watching Yang as a bird)

what i find especially interesting is that, well, qrow knows what raven's semblance is. how it works. yet to him, raven acts like yang doesn't even exist, and most of the time he's always assuming the worst of raven.

but the thing is, raven cares, so her pulling this act that she doesn't is like... there's gotta be a reason for it, and kindred link being what it is fits perfectly.

and THEN. raven, with one simple, awkward question, makes it clear to summer that she cares. of course at the time it wouldn't have been necessary to hide the fact, but in hindsight, with summer working with salem, it's um. uh-oh, mistakes were made.

the main question as far as setting a trap goes is the reason for it. if the branwens are part of the solution to finding the crown, that could be one—assuming raven is still reluctant to cooperate. other option is that there really is just that much bad blood between summer and raven that it is Personal™ ("so you can believe when i say this wasn't personal" raven tells yang in the vault and oh boi if that gets told to yang by summer as well) that summer would set up an ambush just because. i'm leaning more towards the "cooperation" angle but the latter would be funny (to me) bc of cinder agreeing to change the haven plan solely to get a shot at ruby. time is a circle and no one is escaping from it (yet).

-the vidyadhara high elders can get one bio!child per reincarnation

-yingxing gets renamed ren and nobody finds out the new blacksmith is actually the old one

-xingyue child takes dan hengs place on the express

1.xingyue child hatches a short while (a year at most) after egg being laid.

2.they grow up happily and healthy with their parents. Until they're about 10 or 15 (literal age not physical age)

3.then the high elder "revives" their friend without anyone knowing. Yingxing goes into hiding after it's discussed it's for the best while DF holds a (fake) funeral for his husband. And one for his friend baiheng. And no one gets arrested and or molted because it's technically only a crime if they catch you.

4.to further sell the lie, and because the preceptors keep insisting, and because of yingxings "persuasion", xingyue child is given to the preceptors to be raised "as they should be". Which includes borderline abuse because of course. But the preceptors give DF monthly updates. Not on the abuse of course. And most of what they tell him is heavily edited, read: a lie.

5.for some reason or another, xingyue child goes through hatching rebirth (probably starvation. I dont know if they actively decide to go egg or it just happens) the preceptors keep giving updates to DF, conveniently leaving out that his child, died,, and he has no choice but to believe them bc the moment he shows too much interest his plans will be ruined (for some reason).

6.when XYchild hatches, after like, a hundred years give or take, the preceptors decide it's best to not tell DF and just go on teaching (read:abusing) them. Unfortunately there's a problem™ and XYchild doesn't forget in the egg. And after a few decades, they go egg again! For the second time!! After DF went to hatching rebirth.

7.DF and YX deciding it's best to wait until xingyue child's hatching rebirth, and then when they get reborn (which will (assumedly) not happen until DF has also gone through rebirth. So then they can actually raise XYchild and they get the family they deserve. everyone wins! (Spoiler: absolutely nobody wins.)

8.somehow DF goes through rebirth. And YX starts building himself a name as the (longlife) blacksmith ren to keep the trauma™ at bay. "Oh he's just like yingxing!" "Dont be ridiculous, yingxing was way better." (Someone mysteriously dies of hammer to the face. By dan fengs angry spirit). Jing yuan sees him by chance and asks if he's yingxing and gets "i don't know him. Or you." But its obviously yx. And jing yuan pretends like he was mistaken.

9.DH hatching at some point. And despite being trained himself, the preceptors are still giving him updates on XYchilds "education" (you're still teaching them? Aren't they, really old??)

10.after a while (about 18 decades for legal reasons) DH meets the blacksmith ren and although he vaguely remembers, he claims he wouldn't fall for the man. Naturally, it's the first thing he does. Literally. Ren helps "his highness" up and it hits full force. Sparkles. Sunset. Jing yuan in the back pulling faces bc really? Right out here, where everyone can see you?? ("Right in front of my immortals delight!??")

11.they get married very quickly after that. How do you fall for the same man twice? You walk into the forge... and see the literal sweat drip down his body. Probably. Scandal after scandal over the new high elder falling for someone who looks exactly like his former husband. And ren plays it bc he's not yingxing, the prodigy blacksmith, he's ren, the guy IL fell for (and coincidentally also a blacksmith).

12.I don't know how timelines work. It's AU magic. When XYchild hatches, they get raised by preceptors. Again. So after two or three decades they (allegedly) accidentally kill a vidyadhara (not actually dead) because they were about to "teach" XYchild again and they defended themself. Long is dead, everythings lost, DF stopped caring about them (allegedly), centuries ago. They flee the country ship. And somehow get on the astral express after a few more decades.

13.when the astral express gets to the luofu, they are 80 (literally, not physically) and also refuse to board the luofu. But the others still go for some reason. XYchild also sleeps in the archives but occasionally in a room. Where they have. Weapons collected. They wear a mask bc they don't wanna be recognised (almost everywhere not only the luofu) and they fight using a halberd they picked up off a battlefield. Is there gonna be a tearful reunion? Maybe. Will XYchild get grounded for just leaving? Absolutely.

14.XYchild leaving the luofu without telling their parents who they are. "Yes, keen observation, i am a vidyadhara. My name is [notXYchild]. Farewell!!!" Before barricading themself in the archives. Do they want to go to a festival? No. It's in belobog? Still no.

15.as a finishing touch, renheng did adopt bailu, after she hatched, XYchild is visiting them, for a few hours each time (bc they're still scared). When everything is done, after the end of the game, they might come back, but they won't immediately live with DH and ren. So they move in somewhere else. Either with a roommate (like qingque. Or sushang. For example.) Or they move into the generals home. Until they're comfortable around their parents again.

Joé is Akumatized into Miracle Queen and starts sending wasps after everyone

As for Andre and consequences!

He is going to face some hell because Zoé is Not Okay With This At All™. While she initially got along with him as a father figure, she's aware that he's part of the reason Chloé is the way she is. Though, again, sympathetic because he seems more 'enabler to Audrey' than his own 'bad'.

Then he does the 'Chloé isn't the perfect child I wanted despite raising her, let's ship her off with her abusive mom. But I'll keep Zoé because she's better!' thing. And Zoé is Not Having This™.

Her first course of action is to leave Andre entirely. Thankfully the Miracuclass, while having beef with 'Chloé' is understanding that the situation is fucked. She then calls her /actual/ dad to inform him of everything happening but how she wants to get 'Chloé' and stay in Paris. So he helps her work out a situation with her own apartment. It's a temporary solution because he wants an Actual Adult looking after her but that'll come later.

Zoé kinda works on things but she can help 'Chloé' file charges on Andre for child endangerment because he knowingly left her in a situation he knew to be abusive. Not to mention Zoé can file her own charges in that him trying to grant himself custody of her is technically attempted kidnapping.

That'll take a while because they get distracted with the Monarch situation and getting the real Chloé back and figuring out legally what to do with Joé.

What makes her powers different? If they aren't, can she wield multiple magics better than the average person? Where did Rose come from before meeting Mr. Riffraff? Is Charles evil in this AU? Which planet is TJ, Suzie, and Quincy from? Is there a hierarchy based on which planet you're from? What is Joseph Bright like and what are his motives?

I'm sorry for overwhelming you, I love this AU. One day I want to make one with my characters too! Doodle World: Starfall is an inspiration. (In my opinion.)

- magic follows the Doodle typings, so each Artifact grants a holder a specific power over a type. the main reason there's such a big race for them is because depending on the Artifact, the holder is allowed a level of influence over the Doodles of the Artifact's type; for example, if someone were to hold the Artifact of Minds, they could influence mind-type doodles to do their bidding, though they'd have to be at least past the novice stage of magic to actually be capable of doing that at all

- humans never naturally obtained magic, so if they hold onto the Artifact too much, they'll start to burn out in energy and grow weaker, and it'll eventually warp their bodies and minds into something inhuman. the negative effects are all the same between the Artifacts

- unless there was divine intervention, humans cannot be born with magic, it is always something learned

- at first, they have a pretty tense friendship due to Quincy being a rich snob that doesn't know how to talk to other people in a not rude way, Suzie being very very quiet 90% of the time and TJ talking way too much, but they become close friends after saving each other numerous times and sharing their dreams and insecurities. Quincy is the smart ass and often straight man of the group that is the one to take on Doodle battles head first when their group is challenged, TJ is the confident one that wants to show off his magic skills which either goes well or doesn't, and Suzie is the quiet kid that knows a lot about the world around them and helps them get out of situations involving the environment. in short, they're all smart but they share one brain cell in dangerous situations bc that's what kids do™

- Portia inherited a lot of her personality from her mother; Rebecca is outgoing and encouraging, not afraid to give Portia a push in the right direction when she falters. hidden beneath her bravado though is guilt for being involved in the imprisonment of Somniere and Verdrok, but DoodleCo and its cities are so reliant on them that she has decided that taking any action would create more problems

- Teneson and Rebecca have a bit of a strained relationship; they have feelings for each other, but both want to keep it professional since their line of work is very very dangerous

Sinners (people who sinned and went to hell)

Imps and Hellhounds (also Hellborn, but they’re ranked lower cause they’re look at like the rats of Hell)

Overlords are also sinners, they just hold more power and control compared to the regular sinner. So far there’s known to be 9 overlords so it’s a rare title

One last thing to mention, since there is an overpopulation in Hell, Heaven sends down Exorcist Angels once a year to kill off any Sinners to reduce the population. They’re only allowed to go after sinners and overlords, no one else

Anyways, the basic plot of the show is Charlie, The Princess of Hell, is trying to redeem sinners so that they’re allowed into Heaven cause she doesn’t want to see anymore sinners being killed during the yearly extermination. Like the whole idea is that even the worst people can change their ways and redeem themselves

So my idea was like, what if the Champions all died somehow and got sent to either Heaven or Hell? Or they all got sent to hell for something mediocre

Cause imagine the possibilities of what they look like, or what their sins are, even if they stay as sinners or they rise the ranks to overlords. I can see Lance or Diantha becoming an overlord and using that power to keep themselves and Iris safe from Hell (forgot the ship name famiily supremacy 🔥🔥) cause there is an overlord with two daughters in the show

I can see Lance going to Hell for killing some people cause of his job, even if it’s by accident. Cause there were three Cherubs who were kicked out of Heaven for causing the death of a human, even if it was also an accident. And idk what his new form would be

For the other Champions, I got no clue why they would also go to hell. Either we’d have to reach far to pull out something to use, or give them all a shitty quality. Like, idk, Wallace stealing money from the League fundings

As for their new forms, I can only think of Dianthawho would resemble a Houndoom, or have Houndoom like features. The reason is cause their hell forms are meant to be mocking them for all eternity. So her new form would be mocking Diantha of one of her biggest fears

OKay let's start with the basics I guess?!!

Gene (unlabelled gender, any prns but he/him pref) is the Senior Manager of Quarter 2 of Hell, Hell's Ambassador to Earth, and unofficial assistant of Lucy (when the two aren't broken up, that is).

His job is to make sure everyone in his Quarter is doing their job, not slacking, and not doing any DASTARDLY good deeds!! Every decade or so he goes to each office as like a checkup on each demon, like I said, to be sure they aren't slacking. When he's not doing that, he's going between Earth and Hell, getting info to help figure out how to best take down humanity and thoroughly worsen everyone's lives. He also manages the Demon Police Force™(still working on a name) of his quarter and sends them to deal with any good-doing-demons (such as Frappe). Every once in a while on his trips to earth he influences some bad deeds of his own, but usually he leaves that to the Enticers (group of demons whose entire job is to get humans to do bad stuff)

His default emotion is grouchy; he's been a demon for tHOUSANDS of years obviously so he's kinda just tired of everything but still does his job as best as he can, because what else is there to do? Turn a new leaf and be a good person? PSHAW!!!

When he was an angel, he made all kinds of stars (though his favorites to make were wolf-rayets, look it up it's beautiful) and invented a couple elements along the way! He never really cares about humans much but didn't start outright disliking them until Abigail came along (+the whole jod dislikers club). At the time Gene was just kinda on board with whatever Abigail was doing (DEFINITELY just bc he respected Abigail a lot since they were the first angel ever made that's the Only Reason 100 percent no gayness to be seen)

Gene used to be a girl and was name Jean, and in one version Ronnette had a massive crush on Jean!! What was wrong with me!!!

Me deciding that Gene and Lucy used to date was the biggest spark I got to start actually developing those two characters individually, not sure why, it just made them more intriguing for me to think about i guess?

One of Gene's old designs had him in a magenta 1780s inspired outfit with a ruffled collar and everything, meant to represent that he gave up on ever being good way back then, but then I made a demon uniform and realized that the 1780s wasn't that long ago, especially for an immortal being, sooo yeah outfit got changed!!

Gene has an up-to-date cellphone but he doesn't use it much, and if he does use it, it's to get ideas for ruining humanity

Some weird void-creating Beast exists in the space beyond Hell, which created these 'Shadow Lands' and threatens to destroy the entire thing. Sure.

Had to specify that all the denotation of 'Father' being mentioned in this whole story actually were more metaphorical bc apparently reproduction doesn't exist among demons. Absolutely vital information to deliver 90% of the way through the story. You understand.

Apparently the Beast is the 'destroyer of souls', whereas Lucifer simply damns them

"Sir, are you sure you want to return?" "Of course, why wouldn't I want to return?" "Because it was said in a prophecy that if you return, you will be destroyed." (that might've been good to mention earlier my guy)

And the plot comes to light: Yetarel and Ananel have worked together to start up all of those human riots, fake the importance of this lil Revival (which they polished off in a day), and then simultaneously throw a coup to kick out Lucifer and murder Wormwood to get the Fires Of Hell back.

Wormwood immediately just goes like 'welp, rip, wonder what actual death feels like'

Bro like half of these demons want Hell to be destroyed???

Yetarel and Wormwood both agree that if Wormwood dies, the Fires extinguishing will mean that Hell will fall into this void, and both of them seem Very on board with this happening???

WHAT. IS. HAPPENING.

This is what happens when capitalists become disillusioned and realize that it's not actually a perfect system

They start sacrificing each other

Anyways, Lucifer somehow skipped over Hell and made it to the Mid-Point and is learning the origins of the Beast from God himself (the equal-but-opposite Evil force that came into being when he created the Good force, the angels)

For some reason, the Beast cannot survive without Hell's well-being???

And the solution is literally to destroy Hell™, and then it'll wither away into nothing.

Lucifer is totally chill with this.

For some reason, casting all of Hell into darkness is a better solution than having all of their souls destroyed by this Beast.

Again, I'll write up a more cohesive thing to wrap up the whole project, but some initial thoughts about this section. I was surprised at how comprehensive a lot of this actually was. Like, in my mind this whole story started falling apart halfway through and I entirely wrote the ending real quick to get myself out. But it's been so silly! Genuinely had so much fun reading through this, maybe even moreso than Below??? Maybe it just lines up better with my sense of humor now, but I genuinely loved a lot of that

responding to spazmat first, i honestly don't think that's talking over . at least in my mind, pregnancy is a fine example of why the supposed binary between disabled and abled is useless. with the medical model of disability rather than a political one (i'm not a fan of the social model either tbh) seeing disability as individual problems that need to be cured, things like pregnancy aren't understood under the same umbrella as Disability™ even tho functionally they really have very similar effects on a person's (and their community's) life

this gets into something that bothers me about the "you should care about disabled people bc one day you'll be disabled too" narrative that ollieopossums illustrated (i'm not saying it was out of any malice or anything like that, i'm just using this example with the acknowledgement that this talking point is common and was surely offered in the best of faith). beyond just "why can't we just care about disabled people because they're people" (which, yeah, is true, but also i don't think that really gets us anywhere because if it did, then ableism wouldn't exist) it's more "don't reinforce this useless binary between disabled and abled that only serves to hurt us"

this gets further into crip theory than i'd like for this post just bc i'm trying to stay brief (ha) but yeah. in my mind, there is no gotcha against ableists, because "you wear glasses, that's an assistance device, you're disabled" is kind of going along with the idea that being disabled is a bad thing. rather, it seems that being open about our experiences, not in an adversarial way but a humanizing way, is the only way for us to actually make headway

all that being said, the person i was vagueing in this post is still an asshole and they deserve to have been blocked. the only way to have these sorts of humanizing conversations is if both sides agree to not being fucking assholes in the first place

summer was already upset with raven before the mission had really even begun, meaning that if summer backstabbed raven, it's not bc of anything that happened during the mission.

going back to V4/5 for potential Parallels™, there's... a few options that could apply for that time period:

qrow figures out that raven has the spring maiden and he's very not happy when raven refuses to confirm it & responds to his "without [spring], we're all going to die" with "and which 'we' are you referring to?"

later qrow is very not happy with raven, thinking she's actually, genuinely working for salem—leaving was fine, but that crossed the line.

both cinder and yang are very not happy when they find out that raven killed the previous spring maiden.

out of these, i find point 2 to be the least likely one; the only way i could see it work is if summer thought raven—despite helping her—had actually switched sides and was setting a trap, but it was also a risk summer was willing to take to try and stop salem. (consider: the inner circle having a reason to believe qrow was "compromised" which is never explicitly explained.)

point 1 is compelling bc if the mystery portal takes to the runaway spring maiden, it would fit with how the inner circle handles the maidens—e.g. qrow was planning on attacking the tribe to get spring back, her opinion be damned—and if raven had a portal to spring, well. if summer's secondary goal was to bring spring back to the fold, getting rid of raven ensures that she can't just runaway and disappear again. definitely falls into Moral Grayness™ category which makes it just so much more juicier.

then there's point 3 which is like. also compelling bc i keep thinking about gretchen allegedly dying during a training mission under unknown circumstances & raven claiming to have trained spring, referring to killing her as "mercy" when she wouldn't learn, so. if that is the case and, in contrast to all the "it's not personal"s in V5, whatever issue summer had with raven was personal, if gretchen was spring and known by summer, too, it. it could count as personal, is what i'm saying, and if summer put two and two together... there could have been some payback as motivation. (knowing how old hazel and thus gretchen were vs strq would help create a clearer picture for this one, since "training" implies some seniority—tho pyrrha did help jaune who, similarly to gretchen, wasn't ready to attend beacon—but also: miss "i was sent to beacon to learn how to kill huntsmen :)" <- i wouldn't doubt for a second that someone might have gotten stabbed before strq graduated.)

Okay bc i actually have some ~ideas~ about it but I don't wanna write it so throwing it into the void it is but like:

What I'm settling on in general when I think about this is James getting hurt after the tunnel closed behind him and Snape; basically, they took just a little too long to come back up, and the Whomping Willow is back in full force, and James takes the brunt of it. Like, maybe they stopped a moment bc holy shit, you know? And then bam, they're getting beat up by a tree. Maybe because of instinct or because he's just like that™ James shields Snape and gets it worse, but in any case I see Snape managing to escape and go back to the castle.

And of course Snape goes to the teachers or even headmaster, but I see him more concerned about the werewolf and ranting about it for a while until they manage to get the full story out of him and that, actually, James is still back there with the tree (they don't care about Snape getting hurt and Snape doesn't care about James getting hurt — I feel like he would be even more salty because it paints James in an even more heroic light lmao). Obviously the teachers manage to get James into safety but by then it's already bad.

You can imagine him having to stay a while in the Hospital Wing and taking time to heal, but honestly? I like going nuclear so why not his injuries being so bad he needs St Mungo. Of course there's rumors flying around the school about what happened. People know it involved Snape somehow, maybe Remus's name gets thrown into the mix too. The tension in the boys' dormitory is probably very heavy.

And then James comes back! and re: me liking to go nuclear, maybe some of his injuries ended up being permanent. (idk how it works let's just say it does kejdj) Maybe James ends up disabled and unable to play Quidditch anymore. So he comes back but he's not the same and things aren't the same either and it will never be.

(we can throw in there the Slytherins and wannabe Death Eaters rejoining loudly about James' accident, bc i feel they would.)

I think Sirius would feel guilty and angry and a bit desperate to be there for James and be forgiven in some way, but also he would totally blame Snape for part of it if not for it all. So he would probably be harsher and more cruel with him, maybe? But also entirely devoted to James and making everything he can to make it better for him, bc of course he would.

Remus being Remus, he would feel like it's his fault somehow and feel guilty about it. But also it's about James and not him. But also if he wasn't here it wouldn't have happened. So he's pretty much alternating between being present and doing his best to be a good friend and avoiding everything and everyone to the point he's straight up not coming back to the dormitory at all, or at least not until everyone is asleep. Boy has too many emotions and doesn't know how to handle them.

And James... James is angry and sad and sometimes he feels empty and sometimes he feels like everything's fine, but mostly I think he feels very lost about everything. Everything kind of crumbled under him and now he has to build it back up and he doesn't know where to start or how to do it and so on.

(Depending on your interpretation of Peter I can see him as a supportive friend trying to hold the group together, or as starting to distance himself from them gradually.)

(Also I think it would have an impact on Lily and her relationship with them in general. Even without getting into Jily territory, I feel like there would be change here, some positive and some negative probably.)

One reason why I didn't start writing this either is that like — where to go from here? How does it impact their relationship and how they interact with each other and how they feel about each other? What happens to/with James' brand-new Animagus form? Do they abandon their plans for the full moons altogether or do they still go on with it? If Sirius hasn't run away from home yet, does he still do it, and if so does he still go to the Potters? etc etc etc.
