OK... SO... BODYSWAP THOUGHTS™... that may or may not be coherent

both of them instantly do not enjoy being in each other's bodies. other than the logistical nightmare of what the hell is happening, Rex and White Knight are very physically different! there's the adjustment period where WK suddenly is much smaller and Rex is suddenly much larger. Rex is more built than most teens but like. WK is a slab of a man. bouts of vertigo are common.

that's on top of being an EVO vs. not being an EVO. I've briefly touched upon it in the fic itself but Rex has been in constant communication with nanites and technology for his entire life (that he remembers) and that's 100% normal to him. he knows "people can't communicate with technology" but he doesn't really understand that, you know. suddenly he's in a human body, everything's quiet, and that specific human is likely the most isolated human in the world.

(White does send his rubber ball through the magnet into his office which Rex initially thinks is a rude sarcastic gesture but he thinks WK might actually be trying to make his own office more? livable??? but then Rex is like oh! he's in a prison as well. just like my room was. on another note White does keep his exosuits in a room attached to the office but that's behind a lock and he refuses to let Rex use them bc it's a major security breach. + the Consortium would know something is up + WK doesn't want to smuggle him out. honestly it wouldn't be too difficult to but it's not like WK ever had a reason to look into how to escape, other than to wrangle Rex)

Rex is going to get stir-crazy in there. he's got nothing to do. there IS nothing to do in there. ends up reading a bunch of the books White has stashed away in there but tbh there aren't many books. at least they somehow have a similar taste in books. ends up logged back into the system somehow if only to requisition more reading material! and anything else entertaining that can survive the magnet! and another blanket! and like, a chair maybe.

he's lucky that 80% of the time I hc that WK has a room attached to the office and I didn't hit upon the 20% of the time I feel like he doesn't and he sleeps on a mattress right next to the desk when writing this fic

and you know... while he's there in Providence with WK's credentials and looks and boss power... may as well snoop around... maybe even try to make things better...

body language-wise Rex is much more open and cheery (sometimes forcing a smile), but also is more unsure of himself at certain points. he wouldn't be able to nuke a city block basically, even when he had to. when Six sees White's body on the screen, smiling and joking around, suddenly he sees pre-bleaching WK.

and NO. he is too stubborn to do things like "TALK TO PEOPLE". Rex in his body creeps him out anyways. he's all... happy. he is not taking this time to reflect on what that means for Rex's life, much less his own. for now at least.

White is in a sensory nightmare where his panic is also telling his nanites to help him and that freaks him out even more. before bleaching he's always been much more social and tbh way more like Rex but now? he's used to being alone. he's fine with being alone, even, he tells himself. in Rex's body, he flinches from human contact, he's nauseous from nanite communications, he can't make any of his builds bc his mental state is a mess, he's overworking himself, and he's losing control. he can barely cure anything since he can feel the nanites being extracted.

Rex communicates with nanites but WK tries to control them.

he COULD likely build exact copies of Rex's builds if Rex jotted down his mental blueprints, or if WK studies his builds through old footage hard enough to get a grasp on how they work. turns out White has a knack for engineering (his exosuit, his mechsuit, King's Road, etc). HOWEVER this is a lil spoiler for the fic 🤫 but since he made his own mech and he knows it like the back of his hand it's actually easier for him to make parts of his mech as builds instead. I'll probably draw this sometime. Rex with WK's mech arm!!! cool!!!

for his body language he's VERY closed-off. and trying to be intimidating in a body very different than what he's used to combined with his general scowly-ness makes him sort of read like... an extremely moody and rebellious teenager to people not in the know. puts up with some of the soldiers treating him like garbage too.

(Rex expects White to be living it up out there, indulging being able to be outside of the office again...! instead he's still isolating himself. Knight's like there's no point. I'm going to be back in the office. I don't want to get used to it.)

OKAY I ALMOST FORGOT TO PUT IN: White is very aware that Rex's body can get amnesia again and he will forget everything about himself. in that case he doesn't want Rex to be trapped in the office so he's ready to have his amnesiac self swapped anyways.

Rex is very aware of that too and is like, it would be unethical to stick a complete amnesiac into WK's position. he's ready to take the hit!!! they butt heads over this.

White Knight being freaked out all the time is not helping re: his nanites going into overdrive. gotta calm down, WK!!!

I do have a scene in mind for Knight at Noah's house (ordered by Rex)(so WK can go outside) and it is so awkward. Noah going on Reddit to ask what the fuck to do if your ex-boss for a shady job that you got fired from but you still kinda hang out with your ex-coworkers is like. at your house scowling while watching cartoons. (but he's still watching???)(intently???????)

Honestly this is basically hype man/crying shoulder Zevlor headcanons bc as someone with chronic anxiety and depression I... think about this a lot

• If a loved one or child comes to him distressed about something he'll drop whatever he was doing and give them his full attention.

• He may hold himself to an irrationally high standard, but he'll never expect the same from anyone else (except maybe his soldiers in Elturel).

• He'll be their voice of reason, but if they want someone to just listen, he'll gladly do that too !

• In fact, I think at the grove if anyone wanted to "get away" without leaving (not that he would let them anyway) they could go to the secluded chamber and chill out in silence. He wouldn't say a word to them unless they wanted to talk.

• Additionally, if anyone came out of shock for a moment and had a meltdown and nothing was working, someone would eventually rush to get Zevlor as a last resort. He was busy strategizing their survival, but he was a commander and one of those duties was keeping up the morale of his people even when things were bleak.

• If someone says they've been feeling down for a while, he'll pull one of those "Why didn't you tell me sooner?" then won't let them answer before he says "It doesn't matter, thank you for telling me now," and pulls them in for A BIG WARM TIEFLING HUG

• He'll give advice when asked and will listen when prompted, but sometimes if someone isn't doing what they should be (like when its 3pm and you're still rotting in bed) he's good at gently urging.

• Rubbing his hand on their back or shoulder, asking if there's anything he can do to help, etc. He'll compromise and indulge them for a moment, but only if they promise to Do The Thing. He'll even do it with them! Ugh damn this bastard and his high charisma!!

• He'll also go out of his way to make sure they're his priority the rest of the day or until they feel better. If they tend to isolate and want to be left alone, he'll leave a snack or a cute note for them to find. If they want a distraction, he'll offer to go for a walk and people watch or play a game. And if they just want to be held for a moment, he'll be more than happy to oblige : )

... You know suddenly the fact that Raven had a decoy Maiden is suddenly in question if that was for her sake. Because Ozpin who Raven does not trust in the slightest has to know the details of her semblance. And so would Summer, suspected to be with Salem. Putting aside the question of whether either would - the fact that threatening Yang would get a highly elusive and hard to catch Spring Maiden to show her face wasn't known for over a decade. And relevant with the Relics of knowledge locked.

Okay I'm suddenly chewing this because Raven gets super mad at Ozpin for "What he did to [Qrow] and me" - and if you're right they are secondary keys Raven would have reason to be absolutely pissed upon finding out if Oz didn't say that at the time. Her semblance would make that a walking hostage crisis to anyone that can't defend themselves. And she runs specifically after Yang, someone who had no choice in the matter was born. (If she found out after Yang was born... No wonder she despised Oz) This also adds another layer to that talk in front of the Spring Vault if Raven burned her relationship with Yang to the ground to sell the lie she didn't care. Then with the weight of one of possible two locks off her back, the burnt/never built bridge that she can't talk Yang down because no trust after years of silence. Yang with one arm gone, already permanently harmed from the shadow war. Years of silence, Vernal dead and burned relationships all for naught ... Also if you're right about Raven being drawn into a trap by a threat to Yang - the parallels with how the audience first knowingly saw her. (And it lines up with how we saw her for the first time at least symbolically watching Yang as a bird)

what i find especially interesting is that, well, qrow knows what raven's semblance is. how it works. yet to him, raven acts like yang doesn't even exist, and most of the time he's always assuming the worst of raven.

but the thing is, raven cares, so her pulling this act that she doesn't is like... there's gotta be a reason for it, and kindred link being what it is fits perfectly.

and THEN. raven, with one simple, awkward question, makes it clear to summer that she cares. of course at the time it wouldn't have been necessary to hide the fact, but in hindsight, with summer working with salem, it's um. uh-oh, mistakes were made.

the main question as far as setting a trap goes is the reason for it. if the branwens are part of the solution to finding the crown, that could be one—assuming raven is still reluctant to cooperate. other option is that there really is just that much bad blood between summer and raven that it is Personal™ ("so you can believe when i say this wasn't personal" raven tells yang in the vault and oh boi if that gets told to yang by summer as well) that summer would set up an ambush just because. i'm leaning more towards the "cooperation" angle but the latter would be funny (to me) bc of cinder agreeing to change the haven plan solely to get a shot at ruby. time is a circle and no one is escaping from it (yet).

1.xingyue child hatches a short while (a year at most) after egg being laid.

2.they grow up happily and healthy with their parents. Until they're about 10 or 15 (literal age not physical age)

3.then the high elder "revives" their friend without anyone knowing. Yingxing goes into hiding after it's discussed it's for the best while DF holds a (fake) funeral for his husband. And one for his friend baiheng. And no one gets arrested and or molted because it's technically only a crime if they catch you.

4.to further sell the lie, and because the preceptors keep insisting, and because of yingxings "persuasion", xingyue child is given to the preceptors to be raised "as they should be". Which includes borderline abuse because of course. But the preceptors give DF monthly updates. Not on the abuse of course. And most of what they tell him is heavily edited, read: a lie.

5.for some reason or another, xingyue child goes through hatching rebirth (probably starvation. I dont know if they actively decide to go egg or it just happens) the preceptors keep giving updates to DF, conveniently leaving out that his child, died,, and he has no choice but to believe them bc the moment he shows too much interest his plans will be ruined (for some reason).

6.when XYchild hatches, after like, a hundred years give or take, the preceptors decide it's best to not tell DF and just go on teaching (read:abusing) them. Unfortunately there's a problem™ and XYchild doesn't forget in the egg. And after a few decades, they go egg again! For the second time!! After DF went to hatching rebirth.

7.DF and YX deciding it's best to wait until xingyue child's hatching rebirth, and then when they get reborn (which will (assumedly) not happen until DF has also gone through rebirth. So then they can actually raise XYchild and they get the family they deserve. everyone wins! (Spoiler: absolutely nobody wins.)

8.somehow DF goes through rebirth. And YX starts building himself a name as the (longlife) blacksmith ren to keep the trauma™ at bay. "Oh he's just like yingxing!" "Dont be ridiculous, yingxing was way better." (Someone mysteriously dies of hammer to the face. By dan fengs angry spirit). Jing yuan sees him by chance and asks if he's yingxing and gets "i don't know him. Or you." But its obviously yx. And jing yuan pretends like he was mistaken.

9.DH hatching at some point. And despite being trained himself, the preceptors are still giving him updates on XYchilds "education" (you're still teaching them? Aren't they, really old??)

10.after a while (about 18 decades for legal reasons) DH meets the blacksmith ren and although he vaguely remembers, he claims he wouldn't fall for the man. Naturally, it's the first thing he does. Literally. Ren helps "his highness" up and it hits full force. Sparkles. Sunset. Jing yuan in the back pulling faces bc really? Right out here, where everyone can see you?? ("Right in front of my immortals delight!??")

11.they get married very quickly after that. How do you fall for the same man twice? You walk into the forge... and see the literal sweat drip down his body. Probably. Scandal after scandal over the new high elder falling for someone who looks exactly like his former husband. And ren plays it bc he's not yingxing, the prodigy blacksmith, he's ren, the guy IL fell for (and coincidentally also a blacksmith).

12.I don't know how timelines work. It's AU magic. When XYchild hatches, they get raised by preceptors. Again. So after two or three decades they (allegedly) accidentally kill a vidyadhara (not actually dead) because they were about to "teach" XYchild again and they defended themself. Long is dead, everythings lost, DF stopped caring about them (allegedly), centuries ago. They flee the country ship. And somehow get on the astral express after a few more decades.

13.when the astral express gets to the luofu, they are 80 (literally, not physically) and also refuse to board the luofu. But the others still go for some reason. XYchild also sleeps in the archives but occasionally in a room. Where they have. Weapons collected. They wear a mask bc they don't wanna be recognised (almost everywhere not only the luofu) and they fight using a halberd they picked up off a battlefield. Is there gonna be a tearful reunion? Maybe. Will XYchild get grounded for just leaving? Absolutely.

14.XYchild leaving the luofu without telling their parents who they are. "Yes, keen observation, i am a vidyadhara. My name is [notXYchild]. Farewell!!!" Before barricading themself in the archives. Do they want to go to a festival? No. It's in belobog? Still no.

15.as a finishing touch, renheng did adopt bailu, after she hatched, XYchild is visiting them, for a few hours each time (bc they're still scared). When everything is done, after the end of the game, they might come back, but they won't immediately live with DH and ren. So they move in somewhere else. Either with a roommate (like qingque. Or sushang. For example.) Or they move into the generals home. Until they're comfortable around their parents again.

As for Andre and consequences!

He is going to face some hell because Zoé is Not Okay With This At All™. While she initially got along with him as a father figure, she's aware that he's part of the reason Chloé is the way she is. Though, again, sympathetic because he seems more 'enabler to Audrey' than his own 'bad'.

Then he does the 'Chloé isn't the perfect child I wanted despite raising her, let's ship her off with her abusive mom. But I'll keep Zoé because she's better!' thing. And Zoé is Not Having This™.

Her first course of action is to leave Andre entirely. Thankfully the Miracuclass, while having beef with 'Chloé' is understanding that the situation is fucked. She then calls her /actual/ dad to inform him of everything happening but how she wants to get 'Chloé' and stay in Paris. So he helps her work out a situation with her own apartment. It's a temporary solution because he wants an Actual Adult looking after her but that'll come later.

Zoé kinda works on things but she can help 'Chloé' file charges on Andre for child endangerment because he knowingly left her in a situation he knew to be abusive. Not to mention Zoé can file her own charges in that him trying to grant himself custody of her is technically attempted kidnapping.

That'll take a while because they get distracted with the Monarch situation and getting the real Chloé back and figuring out legally what to do with Joé.

au where link runs a daycare and one day as he's waiting with all the kids during pickup, this guy he's never seen before comes in asking for a kid, and the girl runs up to the guy and is like "uncle revali!!" all happily but link is like "you're not the parent that normally picks her up, how do I know you're not trying to kidnap her 🤨" and revali gets all pissy like "duh, I'm her uncle and I'm just picking her up this one time bc her parents are busy🙄" and so he has to show like id verification and confirmation from the parents that he's authorized to pick the kid up from daycare but whatever, link is just glad that this was a one time thing and he doesn't have to deal with the guy again..

until! revali keeps coming back to pick up the kid (I still dunno why so don't ask me). and link and revali keep talking to each other, and revali realizes how well link works with kids and link realizes that revali is just very protective of his niece and he loves her a lot 🤭

ok but have you ever seen ted lasso because revali is LITERALLY roy kent like.. idk how to describe it if you haven't seen the show but roy kent curses a lot and has a bad attitude, but it's just out of love and what his circumstances required, and he's sooo sweet with his niece!! anyways that's 100% revali idc

do you think link would want to have initially pursued childcare as his career? i feel like he wouldn't have even considered it as a possible career choice until having a Awakening™ like imagine link is a nursing student at first because he knows that the job brings in good money, and he's doing clinicals in a pediatric ward for a shift when a crying kid and her very anxious father come in. turns out, she's broken a bone after a nasty fall and link's clinical instructor assigns link to work with her. at first, link is nervous because this is the first time he's ever worked in the pediatric ward and he's never really worked with little kids before so he's not sure how to approach the whole situation.

but then link gets to talk to her 🥺 her name is aster, she's seven years old, and she wants to become a dancer! the reason why she's in the hospital in the first place is because she was trying to do a dance move she learned in her classes, but she spun too hard and landed really badly on her wrist 🥺🥺 link nods because he relates, he too loved to dance as a child, and he still dances a little in his free time (while admittedly is not a lot because nursing is kicking his ass). he shares this with aster (minus the getting his ass kicked), and the whole conversation calms her down enough for his instructor to start leading them over to the x-ray room to get a proper diagnosis of the broken wrist. the whole time they're doing the x-ray, link and aster just keep on talking about what kind of music they like to dance to, their favorite dance moves, etc. and they get through the x-ray with no issues!

the injury ends up not being too severe and they won't need to do any surgical procedures (aster's father medda is very relieved at this point), but they do have to realign the bone in order to put it into the cast and have it heal properly. dr. deku (link's instructor) says they'll have to use a local anesthesia, and when aster asks what that is, he explains that they have to inject her with a needle and the poor girl pales.

internally, link facepalms (dr. deku isn't very good with dealing with kids, is he?) and he tells aster, "hey, it's gonna be okay! you wanna fix your wrist so you can go back to dancing, right? but we have to give you the anesthesia so that your wrist won't hurt too much when we put it back where it's supposed to be." it comforts her a little, but she's still quiet and wide-eyed about the needle, so link kneels in front of her and keeps talking. "i know it's scary, but i promise, the needle will hurt less than when you hurt your wrist. you're so strong and brave, it's gonna be like nothing! and if you let us fix your wrist, i'll teach you one of my favorite dances when you're all better. how does that sound?" slowly, aster physically relaxes, nodding quietly. and link smiles. "that's it! i'll be here to hold your hand if you get scared, okay?"

so they inject the anesthesia, correct the bone position, apply the cast, and it all goes smoothly! aster squeezes link's hand once during the injection, but she puts on a brave face and link tells her he is very proud of her :) dr. deku finishes up the procedure and talks to medda about at-home treatment, insurance, etc., while link talks to aster telling her she was very brave and that she's going to heal in no time :> before they leave, aster gives link a hug (with her non-broken wrist arm lol) and tells him, "thank you for holding my hand mr. link. i was scared for a little bit, but you helped me not to be!"

and that's kind of the moment that link is like. Wow! That was really cool and i think i would like to work with kids! he ends up really enjoying his time in the pediatric ward and he eventually graduates with his nursing degree specializing in pediatrics, but when it comes to actually getting a job... link doesn't want to do nursing anymore 😳 he wants to work in childcare 🥺

so after graduating, link looks into how he can open his own daycare but there's. a lot going on. you have to get certifications, go to orientations, get licensing and look into zoning if you open your own facility, not to mention the supplies and resources he would need, it's just so much :(( so link decides to get a job at a local daycare first, that way he can save up money and get the experience working with kids to make sure this is what he wants to do and it is ✋😭 he has no more doubts, this is for sure what he wants to do in his life, he just luvs taking care of little kids he is so hashtag mother

link spends a couple years working to save money to build his own daycare and one day he does! he finally opens the 'second sunrise' daycare on hateno street. his sister zelda becomes the manager/receptionist, while her gf mipha ends wanting to work there because she loves kids too! she loved raising her younger brother sidon so she has a natural affinity for childcare which is exactly what link needs to run this place >:] it all works out and the daycare becomes moderately popular with many families leaving their children at the second sunrise daycare, their children always well taken care of <3

now. here's the actual revalink part. HAHAHAH sorry i got super invested in how link would have gotten into childcare

molli is one of link's favorite kids to take care of at the daycare. she's a very sweet sleepy kid and likes to sit with link to tell him all about the stories and fairytales her grandfather used to tell her about before he passed. her father harth is the one who drops her off and picks her up and at first, the dude was kind of standoffish and quiet. over time, link was able to break the ice with harth and now they chat and catch up every time he comes to drop off and pick up molli ^^

there's one day where harth comes in the morning to drop off molli, but he doesn't come at the normal time that he picks her up, and link is starting to get worried. this is very not like harth at all... but molli doesn't give a shit tho she's peacefully sleeping in one of the naptime cots LMFAOKDJHFJD until finally a stranger that link has never seen before enters the daycare looking disgruntled and disheveled. he talks to zelda at the receptionist desk but she looks over to link with a somewhat nonplussed look, so he looks over to make sure mipha is handling everything in the main room before going over to the front.

"hi, is there a problem here?" link says, looking over at the stranger. he's taller than link with white streaks in his dark hair, narrow green eyes, and a furrow in his brow. he's kinda hot...

"yes, there is a problem," the man says through gritted teeth. "i just need to pick up my niece and your receptionist won't allow me to."

link raises a brow. "your niece? what's her name?"

"molli," the man replies. somehow, link thinks he hears his voice soften, but it doesn't negate the biting tone in his next words. "her father sent me to get her as no one else could and i see myself as a good enough person to run such an errand."

link crosses his arms and leans against the desk. "molli's father usually picks her up at 4pm sharp. why would he send you to come get her? do you even know his name?"

the man rolls his eyes. "of course i do, his name is—"

"uncle revali!" comes a little shout, and link turns to see molli waddling over to the man, her hair still messy from her nap. he looks back at the man, now identified as "revali", but his eyes are only molli, his shrewd green gaze softening as he crouches into a squat, extending his arms as molli throws herself into hugging him.

he wraps his arms around her and returns her embrace gently. "hey sleepyhead," revali says. "ready to go home?"

"where's papa?" molli says instead, and the man sighs. he lifts molli up easily with her arms around revali's neck.

"your dad's a little busy right now, darling, that's why i'm here to come get you today." revali looks back at link and zelda expectantly. "well? it's clear she knows who i am. are you going to keep interrogating me?"

"i'm afraid we have to at the very least verify your identity," zelda says. "it's protocol, since you're not the parent that normally picks her up and neither did we receive confirmation from the parent who does that someone else would be coming in. it would be a safety violation if we let her go with you without verification."

"oh, for hylia's sake," revali growls, rolling his eyes. "do i need to call harth for you right now?"

"that would be preferable," link says, giving revali a once over. "for all we know, you could be stalking their family and have been manipulating molli." revali shoots a glare at him, but pulls out his phone and taps at it a few times before they hear the ringing. after three rings, the call takes and revali puts it on speaker.

"revali?" comes harth's voice. he sounds tired and pained, and it instantly puts link on high alert. "did you get molli yet?"

"i could have, if your daycare would let me leave with her," revali grumbles. "they said i have to get my identification verified because it's a safety violation."

harth snorts over the phone. "yeah well, you aren't exactly the most friendly looking guy. can you hand the phone to one of the staff?"

"you're on speaker."

"mm. hey link? you there?"

"i'm here," link says, leaning towards the phone. "is everything okay, harth? why weren't you able to pick up molli yourself?" he glances at revali, who's still glaring at him.

harth sighs, a tinny breath through the speaker. "i would have, but i got in a car accident on the way over. i'm in the hospital right now." link's eyes widen and zelda gasps, covering her mouth with both hands. "i'm mostly okay, but my arm's fractured so i'm gonna be off for a couple weeks and i won't be able to drive... but since i'm the only who takes care of molli, i'll probably still have her over at sunrise like normal since i can't really take care of her like this. she likes it there anyway... she tells me all about how you're her favorite caretaker, link."

link smiles for a moment, but it turns back into a frown as he remembers something. "wait, how are you going to get her over here if you can't drive?"

"that guy who's with you there right now is an old friend of mine, revali. molli will call him 'uncle' but we're not actually related, it's just what she calls him. i don't have any friends who can actually babysit molli themselves, since teba and saki are gonna be covering my shifts at work and amali's got her hands full with her own kids. revali works, but he can at least take molli to and from sunrise at the normal times i do drop offs and pickups. you can take care of her still, right?"

"of course we can," link replies softly. "we're just worried about you too, you know. how bad was the fracture?"

"they said it was a transverse radial fracture and that it'll take about six weeks to heal. don't feel too bad, it's not like you were there to fix me up with a splint or something. i'll be fine. insurance is taking care of the crash and the injuries."

"okay," link says. "we'll have to register revali in our system as a confirmed parent for molli's file for our safety protocols. that okay with you?" he gets a hum of confirmation over the phone. "okay. i'll take care of that here. you rest up, we'll try to come visit you soon. take care, harth."

"you too. thanks, link." the call ends and revali pockets his phone again, adjusting his grip on molli in his arms.

"is papa gonna be okay?" molli says looking up at revali. link's heart cracks in two at the quiet, sad tone of the child's voice, and watches the way revali's eyes soften as he looks back at molli. interesting...

"your dad's going to be just fine, darling," he says softly. "he's a very strong and brave man, he can get through anything, don't worry."

"can we go see him?" she says.

revali pauses for a moment before responding. "sure, sweetheart, we can go see him." and link's heart just shatters.

they have revali sign a couple things for the confirmed parent paperwork and verify his identity with a government-issued ID, and let him go, link and zelda waving at molli as she waves back and snuggles into revali's hold. revali nods at them in silent acknowledgement and turns, leaving the daycare with zelda and link at the desk.

"he was kind of attractive once you get past the prickliness, don't you think?" zelda says, breaking the silence. link rolls his eyes and walks back into the main room with mipha. (he won't admit that he agrees 😄)

this shit is so long now LOL but revali coming in every morning and afternoon to drop off and pick up molli every weekday for the next couple of weeks. he mostly doesn't say anything and just nods, a surly look on his face when he interacts with link and zelda but the softest look in his eyes when he hugs molli goodbye or in greeting when he picks her up. it's so interesting to link, how someone this much of a pretentious dickhead could be so tender towards one of the sweetest children ever.

he tries striking up conversation with revali, just small talk, but revali only gives him short cold answers. it reminds link of how harth used to be when he first started coming to the daycare, and link wonders if he can get through to revali eventually. (he hopes he can; he does think revali is kinda fine 🤑 especially since one of his fav kids loves revali so much)

"your earrings are beautiful," link says one day when revali is dropping molli off. he's wearing little jade green hoops; they're simple, but they're elegant.

and the compliment catches revali off-guard. he reaches up with one hand to touch one of the hoops gently. "thank you..." he murmurs. "they're... a family heirloom."

link smiles at him. they're making progress! "they're beautiful," he repeats. "see you later?"

"yes..." revali says, blinking. "see you later..." link and molli wave goodbye as revali leaves the daycare, subconsciously reaching up to touch his earrings with his other hand.

it goes like that for a while; simple compliments about accessories or clothing or hairstyles (revali came in once with his hair in braids and link internally swooned a little, but kept his friendly facade up).

"...do you know any good coffee places nearby?" revali says, another time he's dropping molli off. it catches link by surprise since revali never initiates conversation, but he quickly turns it into a thoughtful look.

"hm... the east wind cafe is just down the street from here," link says. "they also have some food if you need a quick bite. tell pruce and ivee i sent you and they'll give you a discount for your first order." link winks. "i recommend their caramel macchiato."

"i will... keep that in consideration," revali says. he gives link a slight nod. "i'll see you later." he pauses, looking like he wants to say more. "have a good day."

link smiles. "you too, revali."

i talked a bit about this au to my irl who i've converted into revalinkism (but hasn't played botw yet 😒) and they were like This has so much potential for a slow burn, and they're SO true for that. it takes 15 conversations like this before revali and link even imply the idea of going out with each other in a romantic context

"have you always been a part of molli's life?" link asks when revali picks her up on one of those days.

revali hums as he picks molli up and holds her with one arm. "i was in the waiting room the day she was born," he said. "i felt as though i was in the actual hospital room as well, with how anxious i was."

he rubs molli's back as she snuggles drowsily into his hold. "there were complications during her birth, and i'm sure you're aware that she tends to be frequently drowsy like this, yes?" link nods. "molli has some health issues as a result of the circumstances of her birth, and i took part in caring for her back then when harth and her mother were struggling." revali presses a kiss to the top of molli's head. "she's like my own daughter, too. i would do anything for her."

once, revali comes in a little earlier than 4pm to pick up molli. zelda isn't at the receptionist desk because she's helping out mipha and link in the main room; the kids just had a little costume-and-tea party today! they've just finished and are in the middle of cleaning up, so revali just leans against the receptionist desk with his arm atop it, watching them do so.

link is sitting in the middle of the group, clapping his hands to a beat and singing that one barney clean-up song, leading a sing-a-long that the rest of the children are beginning to follow as they pick up their toys, give their costumes to zelda, and their plates to mipha. once they finish cleaning, link erupts into applause and cheers, causing the rest of the children to clap and cheer too. a couple of the kids, including molli, come to link for hugs, which he gives freely with a huge smile on his face telling the kids how they did such a good job of cleaning up and how he's proud of them.

he's a natural at this, revali thinks as he watches link continue to smile and cheer. it's like he was made to do this. he would probably make a really good parent...

suddenly, link meets his gaze from the main room and his cheeks flush pink, his eyes wide. and without really thinking about it, revali just gives him a small smile and an equally small wave. link blinks but smiles shyly, waving back.

the day that harth finally recovers from his fracture is the saddest day of link and revali's lives. can you believe they still haven't gotten each other's numbers or something at this point. they just keep kind of talking to each other twice a day when they see each other like complete losers. ✋😭

link gets a text from harth being like Hey, my arm is finally healed up. I'm heading back into work, and I can start taking Molli over again. See you again soon. and he shuts his phone off, puts it facedown, and just sits down at the receptionist desk with zelda. she rolls her eyes at him.

"you should just ask revali out already," she says, taking a sip from her tea and scrolling through her computer. "it's been how many weeks now?"

"i don't even know if he likes guys, zel," link says. she glances at him, giving him a look.

"even if he wasn't gay, he seems to really like you," she points out.

link presses his forehead against the desk. "don't give me hope. he just loves molli a lot."

"believe whatever you want to believe," zelda says, rolling her eyes again and going back to her work. "he looks at you like he loves you too."

when revali finds out harth is healed up and ready to go back, he doesn't even know how to respond. seeing link those two times of the day had been like. the highlight of his entire life for the past couple weeks. it's not like he can just randomly visit the daycare now that harth is going back to picking up molli. he should try to convince harth to let him continue taking molli under the guise that he just really loves his niece and harth needs more time to recover, or—

"stop making that face," harth says gruffly, clapping a hand on revali's shoulder. "you look scarier than i do."

"shut up," revali wrinkles his nose at harth. "not even a mask could conceal the ridiculous unsightliness you're bringing into the world."

harth snorts. "if i'm 'unsightly', what does that make molli?"

"a very pretty young lady," revali says primly. "are you sure you're her father?"

harth smacks revali's shoulder in jest, but continues. "tell me what's actually on your mind, old friend."

"nothing of particular relevance," revali lies cleanly. "just that i'm surprised you're willing to go back to driving so soon after recovery, when driving is what caused all this mess in the first place."

harth raises his brows. "so not about link?"

revali blinks rapidly, furrowing his own brow. "what?"

"molli keeps talking about how you and 'mr. link' have been getting along real well when you come to the daycare," harth says. "says you look happier talking to him."

"that's not true," revali sputters, flushing, "i'm just being polite since they're taking care of her after all and—"

"you're saying my little angel would lie?" harth says, amused. "she's more perceptive than you give her credit for, you know." then his expression becomes more serious. "you're one of my oldest friends, revali. i'm always going to encourage you to pursue what makes you happy and if it's my childcare provider that's doing it for you, then you should go for it."

"no, wait, that's not," revali chokes, but harth shakes his head, chuckling. "i'm not, i don't like him, he's—"

"you can go pick up molli for me since you want to see him so bad, it's almost 4," harth says, waving him off and turning to walk away. "link's a really nice kid, i get why you like him so much, so go ask him out already."

revali is left there, completely flabbergasted that he's been seen through. is he really not that subtle about it? (yes the closet is made out of glass babe you are NOT slick)

so revali goes over to the daycare, sullenly wondering if this is the last time he's going to see link ever because it would be weird if he showed up not to drop off or pick up molli, and when he enters, link, molli, and zelda are already waiting at the desk. zelda greets him, link waves, and molli waddles over latching herself to revali's leg.

"harth let us know that he was going to be able to start taking molli again," zelda says, as business-like as usual, and revali's heart begins to sink at the reality of it all, until— "but i forgot to ask him if he'd like to keep you on molli's file as an emergency contact? i'm not sure if he had someone else in mind, but seeing as you're his close friend and we already know you, it would be convenient for both of us."

"ah," revali says, blinking. "yes, just keep me as an emergency contact. if harth has problems with it, he'll let you know, but i doubt he will." he pats molli's head. "i'm the only other person he trusts to take care of her."

"perfect! i'll update that on her file then." zelda goes back to typing on her computer, and revali doesn't know where to look because if he looks at link, he doesn't know what he's going to do or what to say or—

"will this be the last time we see you?" link says and revali can't stop himself from meeting the blond's gaze. something about his voice seems sad, disappointed, but it can't be, why would he be sad or disappointed? he stares with wide blue eyes that keep revali rooted to the spot, almost lost in their own little world, until revali forcefully tears his gaze away.

"well," he says, swallowing, "if harth will continue taking molli, i don't have much of a reason to come back here anymore. it would be strange, wouldn't it? coming to a daycare with no child to leave or take with."

"i guess," link replies softly. and they fall quiet, the only sounds in the air being zelda's typing, the faint echo of children's' laughter in the main room, the soft music in the reception room.

"are you gonna miss mr. link?" molli asks suddenly, looking up at revali. his eyes widen and he opens his mouth, trying to scramble for an excuse, but zelda answers for him.

"i bet he's going to miss mr. link so much," zelda says, in a very matter-of-fact tone. "they're the bestest of friends and now they can't see each other anymore! your uncle and mr. link must be so sad, molli." link shoots zelda a glare but she only smirks back.

"no!" molli exclaims. "i don't want you to be sad!" she pulls on revali's pant leg. "you're gonna come back to see mr. link, right? because you're friends and friends always play see each other and play. don't be sad, uncle revali!"

"what if they had a playdate, molli?" zelda says, almost deviously. link whisper-shouts at her, blushing, but she ignores it to continue. "do you think mr. link and uncle revali would like to have a playdate together?"

"a playdate!" molli shouts. "uncle revali, you and mr. link should have a playdate! please? i don't want you to be sad, uncle revali, you're gonna miss mr. link if you don't see him anymore!" she pulls at his pant leg again, give him puppy-dog eyes. "you'll come see mr. link again, right?"

revali looks back up at link, who's blushing and leaning over the desk, telling his sister off, who's giggling behind her hand. he looks back, meeting revali's gaze and straightens, tucking a piece of hair behind his ear. he's pretty, revali thinks faintly.

"i... wouldn't be opposed to a playdate with mr. link," revali says softly. and link's eyes widen, face flushing darker. zelda looks even more devious behind the desk.

"yay!" molli cheers, dancing in a circle. "mr. link and uncle revali playdate!"

"yay for playdate!" zelda cheers, raising a fist. "you'll have to exchange numbers for the playdate, though. how else are you going to plan it?" she smiles expectantly at revali.

"don't you already have my number on molli's file?" revali says, finding the voice to speak as shrewd as he normally does. "you could have just gotten it from there."

"it's a privacy violation to give out or use the contact information of our children's caretakers' for non-work or emergency uses," zelda replies cheerfully. "but you giving your number to link in a personal context isn't. hope that helps!"

"you and your safety and privacy violations," revali grumbles, but he turns to link, who's still pink in the cheeks. "well? do you want my number so we can... plan our playdate?"

"s-sure," link whispers, eyes so blue and wide. "yeah, what's your number?" he pulls out his phone to open his contacts, and looks back up at revali. pretty, revali thinks again.

so they exchange numbers and revali and molli leave the daycare, molli cheering and skipping around. "bye mr. link! bye miss zelda!" she shouts as they exit.

"bye molli! bye revali!" zelda replies, waving. "see you next time!"

and when revali looks back, he meets eyes with link again. the blush has mostly died down from his cheeks now, but link as a whole glows warmly. he gives revali a small, shy smile and waves. just this once, revali allows himself to fully smile and wave back.

- magic follows the Doodle typings, so each Artifact grants a holder a specific power over a type. the main reason there's such a big race for them is because depending on the Artifact, the holder is allowed a level of influence over the Doodles of the Artifact's type; for example, if someone were to hold the Artifact of Minds, they could influence mind-type doodles to do their bidding, though they'd have to be at least past the novice stage of magic to actually be capable of doing that at all

- humans never naturally obtained magic, so if they hold onto the Artifact too much, they'll start to burn out in energy and grow weaker, and it'll eventually warp their bodies and minds into something inhuman. the negative effects are all the same between the Artifacts

- unless there was divine intervention, humans cannot be born with magic, it is always something learned

- at first, they have a pretty tense friendship due to Quincy being a rich snob that doesn't know how to talk to other people in a not rude way, Suzie being very very quiet 90% of the time and TJ talking way too much, but they become close friends after saving each other numerous times and sharing their dreams and insecurities. Quincy is the smart ass and often straight man of the group that is the one to take on Doodle battles head first when their group is challenged, TJ is the confident one that wants to show off his magic skills which either goes well or doesn't, and Suzie is the quiet kid that knows a lot about the world around them and helps them get out of situations involving the environment. in short, they're all smart but they share one brain cell in dangerous situations bc that's what kids do™

- Portia inherited a lot of her personality from her mother; Rebecca is outgoing and encouraging, not afraid to give Portia a push in the right direction when she falters. hidden beneath her bravado though is guilt for being involved in the imprisonment of Somniere and Verdrok, but DoodleCo and its cities are so reliant on them that she has decided that taking any action would create more problems

- Teneson and Rebecca have a bit of a strained relationship; they have feelings for each other, but both want to keep it professional since their line of work is very very dangerous

- Rose wields the power of the stars, she's on some anime magical girl shitttttt 🔥 what makes her different is her ability to conjure starstuff and utilize space itself, which is something humanity can never do without their machines. however, she can't wield humanity's magic at all because her body is composed of starstuff as a Constellation, so she is physically incompatible with it

- before DW: SF, Rose came from some distant universe where she lived as a cosmic archivist. she came to this universe with a desire to expand her library of knowledge and to find new life to document

- Charles follows the idea of "necessary evil", and he doesn't take pleasure in what he has to do to keep all of DoodleCo's cities running, but what other choice do they have? so i wouldn't say he's evil, just forced to commit it for the sake of his people

- TJ is from Eria while Quincy is from Earth. i have no idea where Suzie comes from yet

- there is no hierarchy

- Joseph... i actually haven't thought about him yet, but given his nature in canon i may make him somewhat similar to Rose. someone who does not belong, but unlike Rose, manages to blend in among the public. for his motives, i imagine he may be something of a herald for something otherworldly, like some sort of black-hole doodle, but this may change! so take this with a grain of salt

How far is your OC willing to go to get what they want?

This was a little hard but Jas doesn't know what they want yet but I do 😭 they're just in the process of figuring it out. They want stability and an actual support system/family that's there for them (everything they didn't get in childhood basically 🚶) . They at least know that they want to help people to the best of their ability, it's their job but they've always been compassionate. Plus, it makes them feel useful and In Control™. In terms of the agency, I think I'm gonna have to wait until we're further in the series to figure that out completely.

What's an AU that would be interesting to explore with your OC?

we've talked abt this once or twice but I WANT A GRITTIER UNIVERSE 🥲. I don't even have a particular universe in mind but I'm an edgelord at heart. I'm working on my own kinda universe/story atm but I'm too embarrassed to share many details yet. Sorry for the boring answer, I just can't think of anything specific for them </3

What is an alternative life path your OC might have gone down? How different would their life be if they'd made those decisions?

I think had they not been so self-destructive in their youth then they would've finished college and became a social worker, probably doing art on the side. But things didn't quite work out that way obviously. Their life would be pretty different, I would say? They wouldn't be speaking to Rebecca, let alone fucking around in the agency, I can tell you that much 😔

What is your favorite thing about your OC?

I love how repressed they are 🫶. Childhood neglect got them truly messed up in the membrane. They're compassionate and loving but also soooooooo stubborn and a control freak, and also so moody. They assume everyone will leave them so they're avoidant as hell. They hate themself but for the wrong reasons bc they are not aware of their actual flaws. I could go on and probably will in the tags bc I never shut up. I know it's kind of a jokey answer but it truly is the thing I enjoy most about them and I look forward to plotting out how they'll either blossom or retreat further into themself throughout the series. ALSO really enjoy that I'll be able to keep adding onto them.

Overlords are also sinners, they just hold more power and control compared to the regular sinner. So far there’s known to be 9 overlords so it’s a rare title

One last thing to mention, since there is an overpopulation in Hell, Heaven sends down Exorcist Angels once a year to kill off any Sinners to reduce the population. They’re only allowed to go after sinners and overlords, no one else

Anyways, the basic plot of the show is Charlie, The Princess of Hell, is trying to redeem sinners so that they’re allowed into Heaven cause she doesn’t want to see anymore sinners being killed during the yearly extermination. Like the whole idea is that even the worst people can change their ways and redeem themselves

So my idea was like, what if the Champions all died somehow and got sent to either Heaven or Hell? Or they all got sent to hell for something mediocre

Cause imagine the possibilities of what they look like, or what their sins are, even if they stay as sinners or they rise the ranks to overlords. I can see Lance or Diantha becoming an overlord and using that power to keep themselves and Iris safe from Hell (forgot the ship name famiily supremacy 🔥🔥) cause there is an overlord with two daughters in the show

I can see Lance going to Hell for killing some people cause of his job, even if it’s by accident. Cause there were three Cherubs who were kicked out of Heaven for causing the death of a human, even if it was also an accident. And idk what his new form would be

For the other Champions, I got no clue why they would also go to hell. Either we’d have to reach far to pull out something to use, or give them all a shitty quality. Like, idk, Wallace stealing money from the League fundings

summer was already upset with raven before the mission had really even begun, meaning that if summer backstabbed raven, it's not bc of anything that happened during the mission.

going back to V4/5 for potential Parallels™, there's... a few options that could apply for that time period:

qrow figures out that raven has the spring maiden and he's very not happy when raven refuses to confirm it & responds to his "without [spring], we're all going to die" with "and which 'we' are you referring to?"

later qrow is very not happy with raven, thinking she's actually, genuinely working for salem—leaving was fine, but that crossed the line.

both cinder and yang are very not happy when they find out that raven killed the previous spring maiden.

out of these, i find point 2 to be the least likely one; the only way i could see it work is if summer thought raven—despite helping her—had actually switched sides and was setting a trap, but it was also a risk summer was willing to take to try and stop salem. (consider: the inner circle having a reason to believe qrow was "compromised" which is never explicitly explained.)

point 1 is compelling bc if the mystery portal takes to the runaway spring maiden, it would fit with how the inner circle handles the maidens—e.g. qrow was planning on attacking the tribe to get spring back, her opinion be damned—and if raven had a portal to spring, well. if summer's secondary goal was to bring spring back to the fold, getting rid of raven ensures that she can't just runaway and disappear again. definitely falls into Moral Grayness™ category which makes it just so much more juicier.

then there's point 3 which is like. also compelling bc i keep thinking about gretchen allegedly dying during a training mission under unknown circumstances & raven claiming to have trained spring, referring to killing her as "mercy" when she wouldn't learn, so. if that is the case and, in contrast to all the "it's not personal"s in V5, whatever issue summer had with raven was personal, if gretchen was spring and known by summer, too, it. it could count as personal, is what i'm saying, and if summer put two and two together... there could have been some payback as motivation. (knowing how old hazel and thus gretchen were vs strq would help create a clearer picture for this one, since "training" implies some seniority—tho pyrrha did help jaune who, similarly to gretchen, wasn't ready to attend beacon—but also: miss "i was sent to beacon to learn how to kill huntsmen :)" <- i wouldn't doubt for a second that someone might have gotten stabbed before strq graduated.)

- fíli is a picky eater (he's super duper autistic (he gets it from thorin)) and prefers bland food, while kíli prefers more flavourful food, and especially spicy food! they work together perfectly bc each of them eats what the other one doesn't like off their plate ahaha

- fíli is very fast and stealthy for a dwarf, he also likes climbing things. he hates getting wet though and will only get in water with kíli, he won't do it on his own (like most things he does)

- fíli fidgets and bounces when he's nervous (u can see him doing it in dos when hes meeting beorn!)

- fíli is also very serious for his age, and very responsible, though he does have his inner child who likes to play around and be Silly, but only in a safe environment that he feels comfortable in

- he's aroace & agender and not interested in looking for a romantic partner, he has other things on his mind. but he LOVES children.. i can see him adopting lots of children once erebor is rebuilt!!

- fíli keeps in touch with bard's kids (i call them The Bardlings™) and the people of laketown. i hc that he helps them rebuild dale and he keeps close ties with them and with bard

- fíli went on the quest for kíli. if kíli hadn't wanted to go, fíli would've stayed home with dís and he would eventually be crowned king there. the throne in ered luin is the one that fíli was born and prepared to sit on, and he misses ered luin even if it was nowhere near as grand as erebor... fíli has never been drawn to grand things in the first place, he has worked alongside kíli since they were both children. he knows what it's like to be poor. he doesn't want or crave wealth

- speaking of wealth, fíli hates gold. he's always been compared to gold, and he hates being associated with something that holds so much power over people and often causes conflict and corruption. he's more than a piece of metal. goldsickness doesn't work on fíli for this reason, but instead it latches onto his protective nature and exploits his fear of anything happening to kíli / his family... but kíli is always there to support him, and if thorin was able to break free from the dragonsickness, fíli never even fully succumbs to it

- dís told fíli and kíli about the goldsickness and warned them to keep an eye on their uncle. thorin never knew that his nephews know about it

- fíli is a mother hen not only with kíli, but with thorin as well (on rare occasions though), like. if thorin gets sick? fíli is the one to bring him food and care for him, it's just how he is. he's caring

- he CAN hoot like an owl! just like thorin can speak to ravens, fíli also has a thing for birds,,,

and he looks like a barn owl himself!! note the colours, the patterns, the heart shaped face... fíli is a barn owl 😭

- hes quite reserved and private, and doesn't voice his opinions often. but he does judge. he judges people's actions. he just doesnt say anything

- fíli is semiverbal and only speaks on certain occasions and with certain people. he and dís have always been afraid that this would be an obstacle for him since he's heir to the throne, but everything turns out well and fíli becomes much bolder and more confident after botfa. we already get to see him stepping into his role as leader & protector ever since laketown where he takes bard's children under his wing, and then when he leads kíli, bofur & oin to erebor, and then again when he was ready to go over the wall and take the dwarves with him when thorin wouldn't do it (due to being dragonsick)

- fíli makes a generous and practical king, and he has kíli by his side at all times. he always asks kíli for his input and always considers his ideas. with both of them being very open minded, the two of them bring much needed change to erebor, and they form strong connections with the men of laketown (now residing in Dale) *and* the elves of mirkwood. kíli works incredibly hard to get on the elves' good side (as does tauriel)

- speaking of kiliel!!! fíli really does not mind their relationship, he respects kíli's choice but he also doesn't really understand the relationship,,, tauriel also has to get used to fíli always hovering around kíli (the same way kíli has to get used to legolas lurking around tauriel (tauriel & legolas are step siblings to me))

- fíli was INCREDIBLY happy to see thorin getting close to someone (bilbo) and finally allowing another person into his life. fíli was so proud of his uncle for finally making a Friend (and more than that), but he's also just like thorin in the sense that fíli also doesn't really allow himself to get close to people :') he thinks it's selfish to have a personal life considering the important position he's in.... really, he's So much like thorin

- usually, people think kíli's the chaotic more energetic sibling and that fíli's the calm one, but it's the other way around. kíli is very in tune with his emotions and feelings and identity, and knows how to control them, and how to connect with people. fíli doesn't, because he's always had huge expectations placed upon him and he's never had a very good sense of self, and he bottles everything up. he is calm in public because he masks a lot, but in private he's much more intense and kíli knows this! kíli is more in tune with fíli's emotions and can read him better than fíli himself 😭

- fíli is very much a cat in dwarven form, and he's got very good balancing skills + he's very keen on being well groomed & having a neat and proper appearance.

- fíli and thorin both keep their beards short as a sign that they're in mourning. fíli also doesn't grow his out because it makes him look too much like his father :( he only lets it grow once he's king, because it's kind of expected of him. he also lets his hair grow out a lot and it gets super long!

- this is a sad hc i have. dís never told her kids how their father died, but fíli found out by himself and never told dís nor kíli about it. dís told them that their father was killed by a wild animal or something of the like, but little fíli wanted to know what happened, so he snuck out and retraced his father's steps and he followed his footsteps in the snow, until he found the scene...he dug through the snow and found his father's coin purse all ripped and torn and empty. and in the snow he saw larger foot prints, like they were made by the boots of men (there are towns of men south of the mountains in ered luin where the dwarves live), and little fíli pieces together all the clues and comes to the conclusion that his father must have been robbed, but knowing his father he knows that he must have given all his coin willingly, and even so the attackers still murdered him after he paid them everything he had... dís of course knew this, but she never told her sons, and fíli never told her that he knows the truth,,, he never tells kíli either bc he doesn't want to cause him any more pain :(

- fíli respects and admires thorin, truly, and he watches and observes and analyses everything thorin does, and the older he gets, the more he realises that he would do things very differently from his uncle, and he finds that he doesn't exactly see eye to eye with him. the scene in laketown where thorin left kíli behind was the last time fíli looked up to him (literally, because he was down in the boat looking up at thorin and then after he made his decision to stay, he climbed up and stood on equal ground with thorin. he had grown up and become his own leader in that very moment, and he chose his own path (that of staying loyal to his family no matter what)), but even so he doesn't resent thorin and doesn't blame him for anything, bc he understands how difficult his position is. he's going to be in the same position himself soon 😭

- if kíli *had* died either in laketown or in botfa before fíli, that would be fíli's villain origin story.

- bonus: the one ring speaks to fíli very loudly, whether fíli's alive or not (if he's in the Halls, the ring can still reach him and then we'd have a ringwraith dwarf on our hands fdhdj), if he could resist the goldsickness, he can't resist the ring. the ring sees the full extent of fíli's potential

- a happier hc: fíli loves animals! (we see him petting his ponies in the movies!!) and he's definitely a cat person! he would love to have a snuggly cat!!!

- there is no weapon that fíli can't use

- the braid at the back of his head signifies that he's heir to the throne, and two of the four braids on either side of his head (the same ones that thorin has) signify that he's firstborn in a family with multiple children. fíli's own eldest daughter has the same braids as him. he also has the same braidstache beads as thrain (u can see this in the movies, fíli and thrain have similar facial hair which is interesting considering they never met, so i wonder if it was dis who styled fíli's braidstache that way)

- in my mind fíli has 5 daughters (one of which is adopted), i gave them all names and designs and personalities and everything 😭 and one of them is named after kíli (of course), it goes like this (from eldest to youngest): Háni, Lóvi, Díli, Líki, Elí

- kíli and tauriel also have 3 children of their own. in other words, fíli & paddy (my oc) and kíli & tauriel singlehandedly repopulate erebor with a bunch of part-elf children fhdgbd

- fíli loves sweets, and back in ered luin he would have coffee with dís every morning. they were very very close. fíli loves his mum so much

- fíli has a very pleasant voice but you rarely get to hear it. hes quite soft spoken and usually speaks very quietly

- fíli and kíli are both musically inclined, like most dwarves are! kíli loves playing the fiddle and singing as a way to connect with people, to connect with the audience, so he's not so focused on being perfect, he just sings and plays and performs for fun. fíli is the opposite, he's concerned with every note being perfect, and he concentrates very hard when he plays his fiddle. when he was little, you could hear fíli practicing his fiddle alone for hours at a time. both fíli and kíli are very good with their musical instruments, and fíli has a lovely singing voice, we just don't get to hear it much! the singing bit in an unexpected party was a rare occurrence!

- fíli and kíli don't smoke. fíli uses his metal pipe for stimming because the cold metal feels nice, and kíli tried smoking Once and choked on the smoke and hated it and never tried it again aha

iiiii genuinely have no idea. despite wanting it v badly, i doubt it's realistic to hope for lol. the unhealthy option, obviously, is that tom does something that allows shiv to feel superior to him again and allows her to feel some semblance of control over their relationship. but even then i'm not sure that would be enough to make her forget how betrayed she felt after he turned on her. to move forward in their relationship she would have to be able to trust tom to not hurt her like that again and i don't know if she can. but she'd have to feel powerful so...i don't know, maybe if logan were to cut tom off, leave him out to dry, maybe if tom came crawling back to shiv on his knees and begged for forgiveness—maybe that would be enough to make her feel like she has some power over him. if it all blows up in his face and she is his only option for a saving grace and she gives it to him because it gives her plausible deniability. like—oh, i'm not letting tom back in my life because i love him and want him and need him, but because i pity him, i feel sorry for him, i'm doing something charitable, he needs me and i can lord this over him. you know? again: incredibly not healthy.

then again, maybe what needs to happen is for shiv to have to be around tom but NOT be with him. you know what i mean? like, to witness him from the outside of their relationship, to examine their dynamic separate from their marriage, to miss him, to ache for him, to yearn for him etc etc. maybe that would be enough to make shiv want him back—if for no other reason than the roy's do not really know how to handle NOT getting what they want. like, maybe it would be enough for shiv to admit to herself that she misses him, because they are not patient people and if she knows she wants something she will figure out a way to get it. like...maybe shiv just needs to be confronted with what life looks like without tom. they've been dancing around each other for months and now they've decided to divorce so they're going to actually be apart for the first time, and maybe (in true cliche fashion) distance will make the heart grow fonder.

maybe shiv just needs to...confront her dad, confront the trauma he raised her in, and realize that tom is A Good Thing™. not because he's the right strategic choice or because he gives her power or anything, but because she loves him. because she wants him. sometimes all forgiveness is, is CHOOSING to forgive someone. sometimes they can't fix how they hurt you no matter how sorry they are and you decide you still want them in your life anyway.

the reason why i'm focusing on shiv is mainly bc. i feel like tom has always been willing to go full 90 to meet her 10. he's always been willing to give up pieces of himself just to keep her in his life. the night before their wedding he gave her an out even though he wanted to marry her. the night OF their wedding he agreed to an open marriage even though he clearly wanted a closed one. he kept silent when she leap-frogged him for the top job in s2, he almost went to prison for her dad, he let her kick him with her "i don't love you", etc etc etc. i don't think his betrayal was enough to, like, fundamentally alter the core of his being. i think if she gave him the opening, he'd take it.

maybe the easiest answer is just. nobody changes. maybe logan dies. maybe he dies and in her grief, in her moment of utter vulnerability, shiv turns to tom for support. i mean, wouldn't it be a kind of...slightly nice, slightly sad, slightly poetic path for them? because it's how their relationship has always worked: in s1 shiv says they got together originally when she was "a mess", when she NEEDED someone—specifically tom, someone she'd never imagined herself with. and then he proposed to her at a similar moment—when logan was in the hospital and they thought he might die and tom just wanted her to have one good, happy memory from that terrible, awful day. like, maybe if logan dies...they just continue on with that pattern. they get back together. because shiv is vulnerable and sad and because she needs tom and because he wants to give her a good thing to focus her energy on instead. would it be healthy? probably not. but sometimes there's comfort in what's familiar.

OKay let's start with the basics I guess?!!

Gene (unlabelled gender, any prns but he/him pref) is the Senior Manager of Quarter 2 of Hell, Hell's Ambassador to Earth, and unofficial assistant of Lucy (when the two aren't broken up, that is).

His job is to make sure everyone in his Quarter is doing their job, not slacking, and not doing any DASTARDLY good deeds!! Every decade or so he goes to each office as like a checkup on each demon, like I said, to be sure they aren't slacking. When he's not doing that, he's going between Earth and Hell, getting info to help figure out how to best take down humanity and thoroughly worsen everyone's lives. He also manages the Demon Police Force™(still working on a name) of his quarter and sends them to deal with any good-doing-demons (such as Frappe). Every once in a while on his trips to earth he influences some bad deeds of his own, but usually he leaves that to the Enticers (group of demons whose entire job is to get humans to do bad stuff)

His default emotion is grouchy; he's been a demon for tHOUSANDS of years obviously so he's kinda just tired of everything but still does his job as best as he can, because what else is there to do? Turn a new leaf and be a good person? PSHAW!!!

When he was an angel, he made all kinds of stars (though his favorites to make were wolf-rayets, look it up it's beautiful) and invented a couple elements along the way! He never really cares about humans much but didn't start outright disliking them until Abigail came along (+the whole jod dislikers club). At the time Gene was just kinda on board with whatever Abigail was doing (DEFINITELY just bc he respected Abigail a lot since they were the first angel ever made that's the Only Reason 100 percent no gayness to be seen)

Gene used to be a girl and was name Jean, and in one version Ronnette had a massive crush on Jean!! What was wrong with me!!!

Me deciding that Gene and Lucy used to date was the biggest spark I got to start actually developing those two characters individually, not sure why, it just made them more intriguing for me to think about i guess?

One of Gene's old designs had him in a magenta 1780s inspired outfit with a ruffled collar and everything, meant to represent that he gave up on ever being good way back then, but then I made a demon uniform and realized that the 1780s wasn't that long ago, especially for an immortal being, sooo yeah outfit got changed!!

Gene has an up-to-date cellphone but he doesn't use it much, and if he does use it, it's to get ideas for ruining humanity

1 & 2. What's your oc's gender identity? What's their relationship to their gender? What's your oc's orientation? Do they have opinions about it?

Honestly for both Helio and Danny I don't use labels. Helio uses the word gay to describe himself in book one, and there is literally an entire chapter called The Queer Crisis dedicated to Helio's self-perception regarding gender and sexuality so I don't want to spoil it since you will eventually read it. Take this as encouragement to go read my damn book, Ren 🔪

3. How did your oc discover themself? Did something cause them to question, or did they always know?

The latter part of the question actually isn't discussed much. In terms of discovering himself, he's still doing that LOL I would say by the end of book 1 he's getting somewhere in the discovery department. But I think he did always know. Maybe not that he was Gay™ specifically, but that he was different.

4. Is your oc's environment supportive about their identity? How does this impact them?

Siblings are very supportive. Parents are... a work in progress. for actual environment his friends and NYC are progressive, so it's not too much of a problem. I think the werewolf pack being heavily Catholic impacted him a lot when he was younger, re: making him feel unsafe to come out -- but he hasn't lived within that environment in close to 10 years.

5. How did you figure out your oc's identity?

Honestly, exploring him and Danny's relationship on the page. I went in with the presumption that he was going to be a Cis Gay™ but... I also went in with the presumption that he was white, so we see how far I got with that character design 😂

6. How does your oc feel about labels? Theirs, or in general?

Does anyone in my book use labels, is the real question lmao Like I said he uses the word "gay" for himself, but that's just to Come Out To People™, I wouldn't say that he thinks of himself as any label in particular, especially by the end of book 1 after being with Danny and seeing how labels just... are completely insufficient for describing Danny in any capacity lmao that made him less inclined to use them for himself.

7. Is there something that could cause your oc to question their identity? What?

Lmao again let me refer you to The Queer Crisis chapter.

8. Have they had struggles with their identity, be it due to internal or external reasons?

I think the biggest struggle was to come out, and the internal battle of choosing how and when and if. In high school he was just trying to survive being a werewolf so any romance or coming out was on the back burner, and then in his 20s when he finally started acting on his feelings, there wasn't that much time between that happening and shit hitting the fan (re: chapter 7) where coming out was no longer an option, or in his control at all. But honestly Helio's entire existence is a struggle so... yes. Is the short answer.

9. Are there cultural or lore specific aspects to their identity? If applicable, does their species affect it?

Born werewolves in my story do tend to have... mating practices? Lmao not like Bonding or Fated Mates or anything like that, but typically they do choose a mate and stay mates for life, monogamously, and (since their lifespans are 250+ years) they tend to have kid(s) somewhere between 20-200 years into the relationship. Since Helio's parents are high up in the pack, and so were his grandparents, there is extra pressure for him and his siblings to adhere to this (which is... going super well :/) Anyway, all this to say: even if Helio were cishet, there were expectations that he very likely wouldn't have been able to meet. There is also The Treaty, which maintains civility between werewolf packs and the vampire order, which forbids vampires/werewolf relations SO YA KNOW THERE'S THAT TOO

10. Does your oc celebrate Pride? How?

Uhhh Pride has not happened on the page in my story but?? After book one, definitely! Before book one he's too in the closet for it. After, though, I'm sure Danny's bar has huge pride parties lmao

11. Is your oc open about their identity? Are they more lowkey or more blunt about it? Why or why not?

After book one, yes. Lowkey for sure, though he does wear leather jackets and has long hair but I wouldn't say people's gaydar goes off the charts when you spot him. It's just in his nature to be lowkey in general, even though the universe (aka: me, the writer) obviously says otherwise.

12. Does/did your oc ever wish they could change the way they are? Why? If it's in the past, how did they get over the feeling?

Nah, I don't think so. Even before he came out and thought his parents would disown him (which they didn't). I think he wishes that it was easier to be himself, and less stressful. But especially after meeting Danny I think if he ever wished he could change it would be to be more like Danny 😂 (re: fluidity, openness to change, not using labels, self-acceptance, and shameless lmao)

13. Would your oc be open to a poly relationship? Why or why not?

He is in one :P
