Details in shameless that actually say a lot but nobody talks about

- In s3 when Frank called CPS, he said there was SIX kids living in squalor. He still views Fiona as an immature kid because he can't fathom the fact that someone he's related to is better than him

- "Bring over the russian". Why didn't Terry have to say anything else? He definitely anticipated it. Chances are he walked in on Mickey watching some form of dude on dude porn and Terry beat him. Swore if he ever caught him with a dude he'd kill him, probably not long before Frank caught them and Mickey wanted to kill him.

- When Mickey and Ian were talking at Mickeys wedding he went to yell the sentence "Not everybody just gets to fucking blurt out how they feel every damn minute" but he cut himself off to say it in a calmer tone. He's grown up around yelling, around people yelling horrible things and then saying they didn't mean it. Same with Ian. He wanted him to know he really meant what he was saying.

- Carrying on with the idea that Frank can't deal with the idea of someone he birthed being better than him, he consistently reminds Ian of his bipolar just to stick it to him that he'll never be able to escape Monica. He also does it because he's bitter that Ians managed to prove bipolar isn't what ruined monica and she genuinely just didn't want anything to do with him for a lot of the years

- Debbie going for older guys = needing validation from older men because of frank

- Debbie baby trapping Derek = wanting to prove herself, love someone, raise someone better than she was raised.

- Fiona had a victim complex and a God complex because she thought because she raised the kids the world owed her a permanent out of jail free card and that anything bad she did didn't matter cause it was her

You know what fucks with me? The amount of times we see Mickey tear up. He wasn't even a recurring character the first three-ish seasons I can sort of count 4 times in that period.

Him teary eyed when (for unrelated reasons) Ian runs up to his door.

Him teary eyed when he regrets killing Frank after careful consideration (cough cough Ian).

Him teary eyed and almost crying as he punches and kicks Ian to the floor.

Him wretching in sobs when Ian leaves.

That's not even counting the rest of the times he cries or tears up through S4, S5, S7 and so on. All culminating in a full blown sob when Terry died (which I'll forever be salty they tried to pass it as a comedy with the stupid background music and comedic undertones.). It fucks me up cause it's just vulnerable ol' Mick, tired of putting up that survival front because his emotions got the best of him. This boy is so full of care, brought up in such a horrible house.

I can't imagine the amount of times Terry has chastised him for crying, whatever reason this small child had. Him hearing all of the stupid claims of what crying boys are, pussies. But Mickey is unable to hold back tears, no matter how chastised he's been. He has to cry.

Anyone else would probably be so emotionally stunted (not saying he isn't) that they just cannot even water their eyes. He cried in front of Mandy, in front of Fiona, a choked back voice among Lip. He is sensitive. And it just breaks my soul how such a poor excuse of a father could break down a kid like this, every Milkovich sibling.

And him just being somewhat "opposite" to Ian in that regard makes me want to cry even more.

They're each other's support system.

Okay i saw this on TikTok and omg how can you interpret a character so badly, how can you watch this show and think of Mickey as some ‘angry gay dude’ who distracts everyone from Ian’s actual storyline.

He has such an insane backstory and is such a deep character who goes through so much development and even though he doesn’t have much screen time compared to everyone else his story still matters so much and he totally helps Ian so much.

He is SUCH a complex character and idk how people can’t see that:

He had a father who beat the shit out of him his whole life and called him a pussy for having feelings and then tried to kill him because he was gay - all of which MASSIVELY affected the rest of his life because he struggled to open up to people and communicate his feelings and struggled to deal with his anger issues and the repercussions from his previous life and beliefs that were forced on him by his dad.

The same father got a hooker to rape him at gun point to “fuck the faggot out of him” after finding him with his boyfriend and pistol whipping them.

He ended up with a kid conceived through rape (not her fault either) that he had to care and help provide for while also caring for his boyfriend who just got diagnosed with bipolar and was going through all sorts of shit at 17/18 years old.

He was forced into marrying a woman - the same woman who was made to rape him and is the mother to his child, who he doesn’t like being around and for a good reason (who would want to have to see the face of the person who did that to you/was in that situation with you every day - even if it wasn’t her fault).

He wasn’t in control of his own life because his dad would KILL him if he let himself be gay and he knew that.

His dad beat him to the point where he had such bad internalised homophobia that he’d beat up other people for being gay (knowing that that’s what would happen to him if he ever came out).

His mum left him (or died or whatever we think happened to her) and his siblings with a RASICT, HOMPHOBIC, PEDO (those scenes with Mandy and Debbie), RAPIST, SEXIST and all the other -ists dad.

His dad got put (back) in jail for breaking his parole (he was out for 4 hours) trying to kill Mickey and Ian after Mick came out to him in The Alibi.

Within one and a bit seasons (when he was only around 18 years old) he went from sneaking around with his boyfriend who he pretended not to like because if he did he’d be gay and that’s wrong, to being forced into a marriage with a woman and a child which he didn’t want or consent to and got beat the shit out of for coming out, living and supporting his wife, child and his bf who was either manic or depressed or in the psych ward while HIS DAD was in jail FOR TRYING TO KILL HIM.

Feel free to add to my rant proving that Mickey is so insanely complex and amazing.

tired of the debbie hate. yes shes a fucked up person who did terrible shit but she shows up when needed. she called out lip when he started drinking too much. told mickey to stop trying to drink ian away. pulled up and convinced everyone to help find a place to host ian and mickey's wedding and faked cried in the kitchen for 45 min so they could get married. she came forward and helped!! she has good fucking intentions. shes better then frank in every possible way. be like debbie. show up and pull your family out of their asses when needed.

Gallaghers' memories about drawing their own family (+ two Milkoviches)

By 5 years old Fiona Gallagher, 1 April, 1995.

Monica came back home with her baby brother Lip and a huge box of markers, Fiona was happy and wanted to draw her family with them. After drawing her mom and brother, she realized that her parents had run off again, so she had to stop drawing and go get some food for herself and her brother. When she came back from the chores, she found Frank had pawned all the markers, only left a brown one.

Lip couldn't stand his alcoholic father any more, so he copied the slogan from a magazine, trying to get Frank understand the dangers of drinking in the form of drawing, and Frank let out a laugh when he saw it. (Lip actually had better handwriting at age 5, but he was so angry when writing this.)

Ian received a new box of crayons from his mom, and he used them to draw a family portrait. He tried his best to put Fiona, Lip, himself with his favorite G.I.Joe, mom and the baby was about to be out from her tummy in his drawing. He was going to be a big brother! He hated Frank, so he didn't draw him. The next morning he came downstairs, only to find that his drawing had been used by Frank as an ashtray.

This summer Lip and Ian stole some brushes and paints for Debbie, so Debbie used them to paint an elaborate family portrait. Shortly after she finished painting, Monica left again without saying goodbye, and Carl played pranks on her. She hated them both! She had to cross them both out of the painting.

Carl's teacher asked them to draw a family portrait, and Carl's assignment got Fiona called to school. The teacher told her to pay more attentions on Carl's spelling skills and mental health.

Unfortunately, Terry saw the picture, ripped it into half, and found Mickey to beat him up and told him never to get into any of this pussy stuff. At night Iggy accidentally found Mickey crying, so he stole a sticking tape for Mickey the next day.

Mandy wanted to draw a family portrait on a whim, but she couldn't remember what the other family members' faces looked like, and no one else was home except Mickey. So she pestered Mickey to help her draw her mom, whom she hadn't seen for a long time, and forced Mickey to write her name on it. Mickey also helped her hide her work to avoid being found by Terry.

i just rewatched that scene from 3x06 for the first time since it aired back then and

—aside from the fact that it hurts me even more now that i’m a proper adult and understand the gravity of it properly—

i couldn’t help but notice mickey’s reaction once svetlana comes in. he sighs and ‘smiles’ a little. as if he expected that to happen but still couldn’t believe his father would go through with it, but also relief that ian isn’t going to be hurt (physically) anymore?

how he just accepts it by taking the underwear off himself, blinking so much trying not to cry and turning around just to end that torture quicker (and not look at ian crying)

Why do people on TikTok hate Mickey so much hate? ): like he gets hate because he was scared of Terry, he gets hate because he wasn't nice to Svet, like of course he wasn't nice, she was used as a tool to rape him, he was forced to marry her. Mickey isn't evil for being afraid of coming out and he isn't evil for not being a good husband for Svetlana.

(To be clear I love Svet and am not blaming her for what happened. Terry is the villain, i just hate that people are putting all this blame on Mickey for no good reason.)

Mickey stands out in front of the venue that’s caught fire. He’s beyond angry now at his father for ruining his wedding venue. He knew he shouldn’t have expected this wedding thing to go by without a hitch. Of fucking course Terry Milkovich would ruin his special day. Just like he ruined every birthday, every Christmas, and every other goddamn holiday.

“Fuck this shitty luck, I’m getting drunk.”

Ian grabs his soon-to-be husband’s arm. “Mick.”

“What?”

“Think of all the luck we’ve got,” Ian reminds him.
