Anyone who knows me knows that I am a big big fan of a monstrous character arc. I want slow, creeping, agonizing transformations that force a character to grapple with the very concepts of humanity and free will. I want split-second decisions that can't be taken back, the helplessness of living through a hell that they chose. 10/10 that is my shit right there.

I recently watched a playthrough of The Wolf Among Us for the first time on a whim. And for all the time I've spent considering the narrative relationship between humanity and monstrousness, I cannot BELIEVE I have never ONCE considered the absolute GOLDEN comedic potential of a character like Bigby Wolf. Literally the reverse of the monster thing.

Like, holy shit. Imagine being a big-ass wolf just living your life like a wolf does and then a couple centuries later you have to wear pants and pay taxes. And every once in a while you wonder why the fuck you haven't given up on human society and gone back to being a wolf full time, because you're really good at being a wolf, and then the next time you try to eat someone they get scared and you're like "aw, rats- I forgot that eating people makes me feel bad." And then you go home to your apartment that you have and eat scrambled eggs or something. Also you have a workplace crush and a pig roommate so good luck with that

S2 really has me thinking about the gender dynamics in the main timeline. Jinx was raised by Silco, and in his home was the strongest influences on him and Zaun were the women in his life, Jinx and Sevika, who in turn are the most important women in Zaun. In Silco's absence, Jinx, Sevika, and Isha form a new unit (sort of) that grapples with the deteriorating situation in Zaun.

Then we see Powder in the better timeline, and her home is visually dominated by men. Vi's dead and Sevika's nowhere to be seen, but every possible male influence in her life is alive and she's mostly thriving.

This was 100% unintentional by the show and 1000% hilarious to me.

Something that annoys me is when women are portrayed like your typical action hero but then they're "Mary Sues" but I never see the same scrutiny for male action heroes (and there's a fucking ocean of those).

Like maybe it's not your kind of character, but IT IS unusual and different to have a vengeful strong silent type woman as the MC instead of a man. And like no offense, but no one is expecting depth from action hero MCs. They often are meant to be bad-ass and drive the plot with their quest. I wouldn't know what to tell you about the character of most action hero leading men.

Idk if it’s because of how I’ve curated my feed but I rarely see people shitting on Christine. Any E/C space I’m in is mostly about centering Christine and her satisfaction.

That said, I feel the constant need to warn people that “If you like Erik and Christine as a couple, remember not to have that kind of relationship IRL” is kind of annoying. I get the intention, but people, including young people, aren’t stupid and don’t need constant reminders to not be inspired by their toxic faves.

Like yes girl, I know the Phantom is not a real man. I wish a wealthy, nerdy, musically talented, intelligent old man that lived underground and wanted to help me with my music career was real. But he’s not, so I’m gonna indulge in fiction.
