for coffee ppl: local coffee shops in ur area likely have rly nice bags of whole beans (possibly from local roasters) that they will grind for you!! they might also have fun coffee accessories (french presses, hand grinders, pour overs, etc.) to go with it

for tea drinkers: some cafes also have proprietary tea blends that they sell in store, or things like matcha, matcha whisks/bowls, single use bags for loose leaf tea/steepers. if there are farmers markets in your area, I find that lots of stands tend to have herbal tea blends available bc they've dried up their herb harvest from the season to preserve it!!

thrift a cute vintage mug from and put together a little gift w coffee/tea/hot cocoa!! maybe some nice fuzzy socks.

everybody benefits from a nice lip balm at this time of year. hand cream too!!

if there are candle burners in ur life, get them a candle accessories set w a wick dipper, candle snuffer, and/or wick trimmer!! most ppl don't realize how much these things help in making sure ur candles burn clean all the way to the bottom. if you're looking for a slightly pricier gift, candle lamps are also RLY nice!!

if u have flower ppl on ur list lots of flower shops offer subscription services where u can pay for a set number of bouquets that can be delivered/picked up over multiple weeks/months!!

one of the guys that my store has come to do tasting demos doesn't really know wine, and often asks me to open the bottles for him and stuff. which is fine, i don't mind helping and i'm usually around to answer questions.

but today, he's here doing a prosecco demo and i just watched him TAKE THE CAGES OFF THE BOTTLES AND JUST SET THEM DOWN WITH THE CORKS STILL IN. and my heart about stopped like hoooooly shit please do not do that you are gonna lose an eye or break something or hurt a customer omgggggg 😬😬😬😬😬😬😬😬

toothpaste woes - daily notes, jan 13, 2024

Tonight's meaningless* panic is over the flavor of toothpaste. I've got a Rx fluoride one, and the first tube was fine - tasted better than the Crest whatever I was using! Second tube? Different manufacturer, worse than Tom's of Maine mint, feels like chalk. Barely held off a panic attack and physically gagging when I used it, due to sensory issues.

My first work-around is to do a tiny dab of Rx and a tiny dab of the Crest on my brush. Probably wouldn't bother with the mix if I was still using the fluoride rinse, but I'm on a different one, because of the crown. (Clorhexadine. Pretty sure I'll discontinue it sometime after my permanent crown is installed.)

Long-term solution would be to ask the pharmacist (in person!) if I could just get this one manufacturer from now on. Between an understaffed rural pharmacy and my nocturnal lifestyle, it's probably not going to work if I just send someone on my behalf. I -do- have another refill available, so it's not like they'd make me wait, necessarily.

I hope they laugh at my empty tube, because I squeezed the HECK out of that bastard. Dental stuff is sensory hell for me, so if I like a toothpaste, I don't want to waste it.

*Meaningless in the grand scheme of things. I know I'll get through this issue. Sometimes, though, the panic blinds me to the possibility of it working out, so think of things in dramatic terms. So, like, I'm trying to acknowledge my panic is a big feeling but not a big reality. I have the power to make it a less-big reality, too. (Gotta hype myself up!)

Ate pork (little smokeys), lentils (red lentil soup dip), and Deviled eggs (because my partner and friend love them and combined had about 7 eggs worth). Had good company and lovely cocktails. Conned my friends into joining me for the YWA January series plus a 5k we run in Northeast WI on a Friday night in late January. 😁 Wearing red undies (thanks @tnsunflower ). New sheets on the bed, new coffee and a breakfast bake ready to go for the A.M.

Doing everything I can to make 2024 my year. ✌️
